Potentilla white tincture. Root of white cinquefoil: use in traditional medicine

Potentilla is a very large genus of plants common in many countries. Its name comes from Latin word"potents", meaning "strong", "powerful". However, this name does not explain appearance belonging to this genus of plants. They are named in this way due to the healing properties inherent in some of its representatives. One of these representatives, and the most striking, is the white cinquefoil. It is about her that we will talk today.

Potentilla white - a charming outwardly plant with delicate white flowers. It is they who distinguish it from other species. In addition, white cinquefoil can be identified by a relatively small height, which rarely exceeds 25 centimeters, and special leaves - consisting of five dark green leaves, somewhat reminiscent of fingers. That is why the people often call this plant “five-fingered”, “five-fingered” or “five-fingered”. Potentilla blooms in April-June, forming a white blanket visible from a distance from the flowers.

Most of the European territory is considered to be the place of its growth. As a rule, it grows in pine and oak forests, on grassy slopes, meadows, edges and copses, and soils of completely different composition are suitable for it - wet, dry, clay, sandy, etc. However, despite the fact that white cinquefoil grass is quite unpretentious, today it is almost impossible to meet it in natural conditions. The rapid development of rural and forestry led to a large reduction in this species, however, like many other representatives of the fauna. Today, white cinquefoil is attributed to rare plants, but since it is endowed, one might say, with unique healing properties people are not going to forget about it. That is why at present they are trying to breed it artificially.

Harvesting white cinquefoil

Most often for medical purposes, the rhizome and root of Potentilla white are used. It is these parts of the plant that have the greatest medicinal properties. They are harvested, usually in the fall, after the stems wither. This is due to the fact that cinquefoil, preparing for a long winter, accumulates in the roots useful material, and during this period their concentration reaches a maximum. Moreover, the most valuable are the rhizomes of plants that have reached 3-4 years.

After digging, the rhizomes are cleaned of thin roots and dirt, thoroughly washed and dried. Properly collected and harvested raw materials can be stored without losing their properties for up to three years.

The ground parts of Potentilla are also used for medicinal purposes, but much less often than the roots. Above ground parts are usually harvested during flowering and growing season and then dried.

What is useful white cinquefoil

Pyatipal is a herb that is distinguished by a unique combination of substances that make up its composition. It is rich in tannins, amino acids, glycosides, flavonoids, iridiodes, saponins. Rutin is present in its roots, cyanidin and kaempferol are in the leaves, the plant has a lot of iodine, vitamins, micro- and macroelements. Albinin is considered one of the most valuable components present in Potentilla, a recently discovered substance with thyrotropic activity.

  • Crush with a hammer or grind with any other accessible way twenty grams of roots and place them in a bottle. Pour two hundred grams of vodka there and close the container with a lid. Place the bottle in a dark place for at least a month, during this time shake it periodically. When the product is ready, strain it and pour into a convenient container. Take thirty drops in a quarter glass of water, twenty minutes before meals three times a day.

Infusion of white cinquefoil

Those who, for some reason, cannot tolerate alcohol infusions, can be treated with infusion of Potentilla root. It also helps with all of the above problems with the body.

  • Grind a tablespoon of the root, place in a suitable container and steam with a glass of boiling water. Wrap the product with a towel or blanket and leave for six to eight hours (you can also use a thermos to prepare it). Take a couple of tablespoons four times a day, twenty minutes before meals.

Potentilla erect, or galangal ( Potentilla erecta(L.) Raeusch.), from the Rosaceae family - perennial herbaceous plant up to 15-40 cm high with thin, ascending, forked-branched stems at the top. The leaves are trifoliate, with two large stipules, alternate: basal - petiolate, upper - sessile; stems and leaves are covered with hairs. Flowers solitary, yellow, with regular perianth, orange-red spots at the base, axillary, on long pedicels. Double calyx, with subcup. The corolla consists of 4 separate petals, unlike other cinquefoils, which have 5 petals. It is for these four petals that it is easy to find it in nature, and that is why it is customary to harvest its roots somewhat at the wrong time - not at the end of the season, but during flowering. The fruit is an ovoid, slightly wrinkled achene of dark olive or Brown color. The fruit consists of 5-12 seeds. Blooms from May to August. The fruits ripen in August-September.

In the wild, the plant is found in the forest zone of the European part of the country, in Western Siberia, in the Caucasus. It often grows in damp and dry places, between shrubs, in meadows, in young plantings, in pastures, sometimes in swampy places, sparse coniferous and coniferous-small-leaved forests. Collecting wild roots is very laborious - they are quite small and are in the turf layer. Therefore, it makes sense to plant this plant on the site.

cultivation

Kalgan looks good in a group on the eastern or western slope of a rocky hill. Flowering lasts almost all summer, so it is decorative for a long time. Dissected leaves and numerous small yellow flowers create the effect of lightness and airiness.

The plant prefers loose, fertile soil with a neutral or slightly acidic environment. On heavy clay soils the roots are clumsy and small, and the aerial part is not so lush.

It takes a long time to grow this plant from seeds. planting material the easiest way is to bring from natural habitats. It is better to dig up plants during flowering, when they are easy to identify. After landing on the site, they are watered and shaded for a while. This contributes to better survival. Care is the most common and includes only loosening, weeding and, if necessary, watering. In the future, when digging raw materials upper part roots with renewal buds can be planted in the vacant place and after 2-3 years the plants are again suitable for obtaining medicinal raw materials and further division.

Collect rhizomes in the fall. They dig with a shovel, free from lumps of earth, cut off thin roots and branches of stems, place in baskets and wash. Lay out the street for drying and wilting, and then dry it in the attic or in a dryer at a temperature not higher than +60 ° C, stirring occasionally. Raw material saves medicinal properties 4 and even more years.

Chemical components

The main substances that determine the pharmacological activity of cinquefoil are condensed tannins, triterpene saponins, in particular, tormentillin glycoside and tormentol ether, and flavonoids. The content of tannins in the rhizomes of Potentilla is greater than in oak bark and reaches 20-30, and in some cases - 35%, and therefore the plant in Russia was used for tanning leather and dyeing fabrics.

medicinal properties

The rhizomes of the plant have an astringent, bactericidal, anti-inflammatory and hemostatic effect. The local anti-inflammatory effect is associated with tannins that can create a biological film that protects tissues from chemical, bacterial and mechanical effects that accompany inflammation. At the same time, the permeability of capillaries decreases and the vessels narrow. These features of the action are well manifested on inflamed, reddened mucous membranes with pharyngitis, stomatitis, gingivitis, as well as gastritis and enteritis. The general anti-inflammatory effect is associated with the effect of flavonoids. A number of authors note a moderate analgesic effect of Potentilla preparations.

Potentilla decoctions are prescribed orally for enteritis, enterocolitis, dyspepsia, dysentery, ulcerative colitis with bleeding from the intestines, gastritis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, as a choleretic agent for cholecystitis, cholecystocholangitis, acute and chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, including in the edematous-ascitic stage.

Procurement of raw materials

Potentillae rhizomata (Potentillae rhizomata) is used as a medicinal raw material. They are dug up during flowering, cleaned of roots, washed from the ground and dried on outdoors, in ventilated rooms or in dryers.

Chemical composition

The pharmacological properties of Potentilla erectus depend on the biologically active substances contained in the plant. Rhizomes contain up to 30% tannins, glycoside tormentilin; triterpenoids (up to 6%): quinic acid, tormentoside; resins, crystalline ether tormentol; phenolcarboxylic acids: gallic, quinic, ellagic, caffeic, n-coumaric, protocatechin, flavonoids (kaempferol), flobafens; phenols (fluroglucinol, pyrocatechin, pyrogallol); catechin, wax, gum, starch, macro- and microelements.

Pharmacological properties

A decoction of the rhizomes of Potentilla erectus has an astringent, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, bactericidal effect, and also has an expectorant and choleretic effect.

It has been established that aqueous extracts from Potentilla rhizomes have antimicrobial, antiprotozoal and fungicidal activity. The antimicrobial effect of the decoction when exposed to it chemical compounds peculiar to the intestinal microflora. Its action is softer and more physiological, since the biologically active substances of the plant are in essence and resistance of pathogenic pathogens does not develop to them. A decoction of Potentilla rhizomes is used in the treatment of diseases associated with functional bowel disorders. In this case, the inflamed intestinal mucosa is protected from irritation and damage by microbial and other adverse agents, the elimination of an acute inflammatory reaction, the normalization of intestinal motor function, the suppression of pathogenic intestinal flora and the restoration of eubiosis in the intestine.

The general anti-inflammatory effect is associated with the action of flavonoids, and the local effect is associated with tannins that can create a biological film that protects tissues from bacterial, chemical and mechanical influences that accompany inflammation, while at the same time capillary permeability decreases and blood vessels narrow.

In the gastroenterological department of the Clinical Diagnostic Center No. 1 in Moscow, studies were carried out on the pharmacological properties of the rhizomes of Potentilla erectus. There were 60 people under observation. The first group included patients with functional bowel disease (irritable bowel syndrome) and organic diseases(chronic enterocolitis). All patients had diarrhea. The second group consisted of patients with erosive and ulcerative processes in the stomach and duodenum, the third group - with chronic active gastritis. The fourth group was a control group and, unlike the first three, received only medications, without cinquefoil.

When using the plant in the group of patients receiving Potentilla erectus as a monotherapy, there was a fairly rapid disappearance of diarrhea or its decrease. The pain syndrome also significantly decreased to 5% (before treatment it was 54%), such dyspeptic disorders as nausea, bitterness in the mouth, belching, vomiting, as well as bleeding gums and rectal bleeding significantly decreased.

Diarrhea in the control group without the use of cinquefoil was stopped in 12 of 30 patients (40%), with the use of cinquefoil erect in 24 of 30 patients studied (80%).

Also, due to the increased interest in Helicobacter pylori infection, tests were carried out to identify Helicobacter pylori in patients of all four groups of patients before and after treatment with cinquefoil rhizomes. The results showed that Helicobacter pylori was absent in 16 out of 19 studied patients suffering from chronic active gastritis and erosive and ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum before taking this phytopreparation, and in the control group of patients, Helicobacter pylori was absent in 8 out of 21 people.

Thus, Potentilla erectus can be used both as monotherapy and in combination with other drugs without disturbing their metabolism. This plant is well tolerated by all patients, regardless of age. The introduction of Potentilla erectus into the treatment of antiulcer therapy accelerates the time of epithelialization and significantly increases the efficiency of eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. However, given the presence a large number tannins, it is necessary to remember the drying effect of Potentilla on the mucous membranes.

Application in traditional medicine

AT traditional medicine apply decoction, infusion, tea and tincture of Potentilla. Potentilla erectus was used primarily as an astringent, expectorant and analgesic. Potentilla rhizome - ancient folk remedy used in the treatment of gastritis, stomach ulcers, various internal bleeding(pulmonary, gastric, intestinal, uterine). With diarrhea and dysentery, they drank tea from the roots of Potentilla. A decoction of rhizomes was taken for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, insufficient acidity of gastric juice.

It was also used externally as an ointment for burns, frostbite, weeping eczema, as well as for rinsing with sore throat and scurvy. Potentilla was also used for jaundice, liver diseases, gout, and as part of the fees - for kidney diseases, Bladder and prostate adenomas.

There is evidence of the effectiveness of infusions and decoctions from the leaves, stems and flowers of Potentilla in the treatment of patients with acute and chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver with congestion (edema, ascites).

Potentilla has found application in other countries. In Bulgaria, Potentilla infusion is used as a choleretic agent for gastritis and peptic ulcer with low acidity, as well as in the form of applications for hemorrhoids.

The German National Health Service recommends using galangal inside for diarrhea, externally for rinsing and irrigating the mouth with inflammation of the gums and mucous membranes.
