The area of distribution is quite wide. Differs in the increased frost resistance, excellent taste and early term fruit ripening. Early. Comes into fruition for an average of 3-4 years.

Tree of medium vigor. The crown of a young apple tree is broom-shaped, becoming spreading with age. The fruits are located at the ends of the branches, as a result of which the crown of the tree acquires a "weeping" shape. The shoots are thin and straight, the bark of the branches is greenish-yellow. The branches depart from the trunk at an acute angle. They have a pleasant aroma and excellent sour-sweet taste.

Attention! This apple variety is self-fertile, meaning it requires a pollinator nearby. White filling and Grushovka Moskovskaya are well suited as a pollinator.

Advantages and disadvantages

Today, China's golden early is more common in old gardens. IN industrial production apples of this variety are not used. But they are good for eating fresh, as they are rich in various vitamins and minerals. They are also used for canning, making jams, jams, juices, fruit wine.

Among the advantages of this variety are:

  • outstanding winter hardiness - tolerates cold well, not only in climatic conditions the middle zone, but also in some regions of Siberia;
  • precociousness - begins to produce a crop for 3-4 years, but the first fruits can be obtained already for 2 years;
  • early ripeness - apples ripen in the third decade of July;
  • excellent taste qualities of fruits - apples are sweet with a slight sourness, great for eating raw.

The tree needs good lighting

But these apple trees also have certain disadvantages, which, however, pays off. excellent taste fruits. Significant disadvantages of the variety include such ones as:

  • high shedding of fruits - when ripe, apples begin to quickly crumble from the tree. If they are not removed in time, they can be eaten by birds in a short time;
  • short shelf life of the crop - after harvest, apples require almost immediate consumption or processing. The collected fruits lie no more than a week, after which they lose their marketable condition;
  • susceptibility to scab - the Chinese golden apple tree is weakly resistant to this disease, so the gardener needs to monitor the health of the tree.

Landing features

For planting an apple tree on the site, choose a place well lit by the sun. The Chinese golden early prefers breathable soils of weak acidity. Preferably loamy, sandy or leached chernozem. Suitable for cultivation sandy soils, but only with annual fertilization. Groundwater should be located no closer than 2-2.5 m from the surface of the earth.

Advice. Chinese gold early negatively tolerates stagnant water. In such conditions, the apple tree does not develop well, it may even die. Therefore, with the likelihood of flooding the site, it is better to plant a tree on a hill. You can also make drainage when planting.

Planting an apple tree better in spring before bud break. It is possible to plant a tree in the fall, around mid-October. It is better to prepare a pit a month before planting an apple tree, so that the soil settles during this time, and the applied fertilizers partially decompose. landing pit 0.7-0.8 m deep and about 1 m in diameter are filled with humus, manure and sand, mixing them with excavated earth. A stake is driven into the middle of the pit, to which, after planting, a young apple tree is tied up. The roots of the seedling are straightened, carefully covered with earth, compacting it, and watered abundantly. When planting, the tree is not deepened into the ground. root collar should be located 5-7 cm above ground level. spring planting you can do the cutting right away.

Chinese gold early - good grade apple trees with fragrant, tasty, albeit small fruits. And with proper care of the tree, it will delight the gardener with a stable harvest throughout its life.

History of variety breeding

Chinese apple tree Long received in America in 1917, scientists Hansen. Were taken as a basis Russian varieties apples Siberian and unknown variety.

Thanks to its amazing beauty and frost resistance, apple trees of this variety are widely used as ornamental varieties in the territory Western, Eastern and Northwestern Siberia.

When crossing varieties, the widely known hybridization method.

Of the 15 mother trees tested, pollen was collected from only 11 for re-pollination.

After a successful re-pollination, Gansen managed to develop the seeds of a new variety.

Before the upcoming planting, the breeder subjected the seeds to stratification. This process took him 4 months.

Planting was successful, and in the future, when caring for a new variety, the mentor (educator) method was used. The variety passed its "baptism" in harsh conditions, which allowed it to develop good frost resistance.

Region of origin

The region of natural growth in Europe is cold lands. Mainly Western and Eastern Siberia with its continental climate.

Variety Dolgo (Chinese) is ideal for growing in harsh winters.

His root system deep enough, which allows the tree to maintain the optimum temperature.

Variety enough adapts well to hot and dry regions, but the main condition for adaptation is abundant watering.

With insufficient watering, the root system of the tree begins to deplete, which in turn leads to a decrease in the accumulation nutrients and impaired photosynthesis.

As a result, the yield decreases.

yield

The yield of this variety is high enough in all conditions, but more often this variety is used precisely as decorative tree.

The tree begins to bear fruit approximately 5 years after disembarkation into the ground. Fruit size is small the weight of a mature fruit reaches 15-20 g.

The peculiarity of apples of this variety is in their location on the branches, during the ripening period they densely stick around all the branches, but hold on tight enough.

The harvest period falls on end of August-beginning of September, the fruiting of this variety occurs as a rule 1 time per year.

Apples of this variety are more decorative, therefore are not preserved very well.

The only optimal storage location is dark and cold. The combination of these conditions will save apples within 2 months.

Landing and care

Before planting an apple tree, it is worth finally deciding on a place in which it will feel as comfortable as possible.

Preparatory work for planting this variety should begin a week in advance. During this period, it is necessary to prepare pits for planting (no more than 90 cm deep) and fertilize them.

In a week, the earth in the pits will have time to warm up and soak with fertilizers.

Planting trees with a closed root system can be done from the end of March to the middle of April, and in the fall - from the end of September to the end of October.

While apple trees with an open root system should be produced spring(between mid-April and mid-May) or autumn(between mid-September and mid-October).

ADVICE: this variety of apples will feel good alone, you should not place them close to other trees. Apple tree Long Chinese will look good in the center of the garden composition.

Proper care for apple-trees of a grade Dolgo (Chinese) includes certain sequence of actions:

  • The tree needs regular inspection.
  • If necessary, mandatory healing of visible wounds.
  • Every spring, remove dry and damaged branches.
  • In spring and summer, the soil around the tree must be loosened and cleared of weeds.
  • The apple tree needs abundant watering.
  • If necessary, apple trees need to be sprayed from pests.

This simple combination actions will help turn the apple tree into a real pride orchard!

Diseases and pests

Apple trees of this variety very disease resistant. However, there are a number of diseases that can spoil the decorative function of these apple trees.

These include: cytosporosis, bacterial burn, black cancer.

Disease control methods:

Cytosporosis flows hard enough for a tree. During the period of bud swelling, the tree must be treated with Hom, and before flowering - with copper sulphate.

Bacterial burn. A serious and dangerous disease for apple trees. It owes its origin to man. Most effective method fight against bacterial burn- destruction of the source of infection.

Black cancer. This disease primarily damages wood, and therefore appearance tree. The bark damaged by this disease must be removed, and the wounds of the tree should be healed with appropriate preparations.

Pests for the fruits of apple trees of the Long (Kitayka) variety are not very dangerous. Although their appearance worsens the appearance and characteristics of the tree.

Main pests:

Green aphid. Only a solution of tobacco and soap can defeat aphids.

Ploshka. This pest does not tolerate tobacco smoke, fumigating a tree would be a competent solution.
Apple moth. The fight should consist in spraying with a solution of chlorophos.

Leaflet. This pest can cause serious damage to the appearance of your apple tree. Only a solution of nitrofen can get rid of it.

Apple flower beetle.
To save beautiful flowering, you need to spray the apple tree with a solution of karbofos or chlorophos.

Summing up, we can say that the Dolgo (Kitayka) apple trees are ideal for decorative garden decoration.

At correct location and care, apple trees of this variety will become a real decoration of your garden. They will delight you not only with their beauty, but also with delicious fruits.

Apple tree Long - old variety, which has enjoyed popular love and respect among gardeners for more than a hundred years. It received such an unusual name due to the oblong (slightly elongated) shape of the fruit. Variety Dolgoe belongs to the group of ranetki, therefore, among the people it is often called Kitayka, or Chinese (berry, plum-leaved) apple tree. Small red fruits are really very similar to berries, and although they taste sour, they are ideal for preparing various desserts and delicacies.

The variety of apples Long belongs to the American selection. It was bred by a certain biologist Hansen, who in the very late XIX centuries (presumably in 1897–1899) brought the seeds of the Sibirka apple tree from Russia, and then crossed its seedlings with an unknown variety. Soon the apple tree returned to its homeland and was even zoned in several regions of Siberia, which was facilitated by high frost resistance, obviously inherited from Sibirka.

Apple trees are small varieties of medium height (4–6 m, depending on the soil and climate), sometimes growing in the form of a shrub. The crown is pyramidal, rather compact, densely leafy. The bark of the trunk and skeletal branches is grayish-brown, the young shoots are dark purple, slightly pubescent. The leaves, as befits a plum-leaved apple tree, are oblong, elliptical in shape, light green in color, not pubescent.

It is worth noting that during all periods of its growing season, the apple tree has a very decorative external description. During flowering, its branches are densely covered with white with a pinkish tint, and sometimes completely. pink flowers. In autumn, in place of flowers, numerous clusters of red fruits appear, which, unfortunately, do not differ in large size and sweet taste. The average weight of apples is 15–20 g, they are ovoid, have an elongated stalk, with which they are firmly attached to the branches. The pulp is a little tough, moderately juicy, slightly tart wine taste.

Main characteristics

Apples Long reach their removable maturity by early September, but this is an average period. IN southern regions the harvest can be harvested already in mid-August, in cold summer conditions, ripening can be delayed until the end of September. The fruits do not crumble, so they need to be removed manually. The shelf life of apples is short (3–4 weeks), in the refrigerator no more than 2 months, after which the pulp becomes soft and friable.

Like all Kitayki, the apple tree of the Long variety has amazing winter hardiness, and, judging by the reviews of gardeners, it is extremely rarely affected by scab.

Pollinated by insects, which are easily attracted by bright fragrant flowers. The yield of the variety is also at its best, and is 150–170 kg for an adult tree. It should be noted that trees start fruiting early - for 3-4 years, but it is not uncommon for an apple tree to bloom in the second year. Despite the possibility of eating fresh apples, the Dolgo variety is considered technical and is intended for processing (jam, compotes, alcoholic beverages).

Landing and care

The Chinese apple tree, belonging to the Long variety, is completely unpretentious in cultivation. It can grow on any soil, in the shade, normally tolerates any weather, does not accept only close occurrence ground water. However, it must be remembered that the improvement of conditions favorably affects the harvest - if an apple tree is planted in sunny place with fertile loose soil, the fruits will grow larger and sweeter.

Caring for apple trees is standard, consists of the following activities:

  • watering - seedlings are watered often, mature trees only in case of extreme heat, since apple trees tolerate drought more easily than waterlogging;
  • mulching of the trunk zone;
  • in the absence of mulch in the trunk circle, you need to regularly loosen the soil and remove weeds;
  • pruning - sanitary in the spring, and forming in the fall;
  • top dressing: nitrogen in spring, during fruiting and before wintering - potassium and phosphorus
  • whitewashing trunks in spring and autumn - spring whitewashing will protect the bark from burns, autumn whitewashing - from rodents;
  • preventive crown treatments with fungicides and insecticides.

Possessing high resistance to the most common diseases, apple trees can be affected by cytosporosis, a very dangerous fungal disease that can seriously damage decorative look tree. To prevent this from happening, apple trees are treated with copper-containing fungicides ("Hom", blue vitriol) before bud break, and then again before flowering.

The fruits of this apple tree rarely become the object of attention of pests, but the leaves are sometimes affected by leaf fleas, aphids, and moths. You can fight the flea by fumigating the leaves. tobacco smoke, spraying the crown with a solution of soap and tobacco helps to get rid of aphids, but apple moths have to be fought with insecticides (Karbofos, Chlorophos).

Throughout the season, you need to monitor the condition of the branches, remove diseased and damaged ones in time, and disinfect or treat the cut points. garden pitch. Trees do not need shelter for the winter, but in regions with a very harsh climate, the trunk circle can be covered with humus or peat.

Advantages and disadvantages

If you do not focus on the quality of the fruits, then the Long apple tree will have many advantages:

  • excellent winter hardiness;
  • regular high yield;
  • early fruiting;
  • resistance to major diseases (scab, powdery mildew);
  • suitability of fruits for processing;
  • lack of crumbling;
  • high decorative qualities of trees.

All the shortcomings of the variety are associated with the quality of the fruits: they are too small, do not have good taste and little storage. But don't get upset, because good care an apple tree can look very decorative and beautify your garden.

Video "Apple variety Long"

From this video you will learn the details of the popular Dolgo apple variety.

Chinese apple tree - a tree with a harvest

A low tree strewn with bizarre little apples is the China apple tree. Its fruits are similar to artificial ones, they are also called "paradise apples". Most delicious compotes and jams are made from them, thanks to the magnificent aroma of fruits.

Varieties of plum-leaved apple (Chinese)

Chinese can serve as decorative ornament garden, and full fruit tree. It differs from other varieties in its resistance to the most severe winters and drought conditions. summer periods. Despite this, it bears fruit every year and gives bountiful harvest.

The Chinese woman calculates the set different varieties derived from it. The most famous of them:

  • Dark red - a late variety, quite winter-hardy and has high performance yields, yellow fruits are decorated with a beautiful red blush;
  • Chinese Kerr - has larger apples (up to 40 g), which practically do not crumble, which significantly improves their quality;
  • Golden early - different early period ripening (in the middle of summer), bears fruit well, and apples have an excellent taste.

China golden early is the most popular among other varieties. Although it does not have high winter hardiness, it has many other advantages.

Apple tree Kitayka golden early description of the variety

The golden Chinese apple tree grows up to 5-7 meters. Since fruiting mainly occurs at the ends of the branches, the plant has a weeping crown. This early ripe variety, which begins to bear fruit already 3-4 years after planting.

The ripening of the fruits of Kitaika occurs already in the month of July. Apples are small, up to 5-7 cm in size and weighing about 30 g. The color of the skin is yellow, as well as the pulp. This fruit has a pleasant sour taste.

The biggest drawback of the Kitaika apple tree is the very short shelf life of the fruit, they can lie no more than a week. If they are not used or recycled during this period, they will begin to fade and lose their presentation.

The problem is also the high shedding of apples during the ripening period. If they are not removed in time, then the entire crop will be quickly eaten by birds. It is necessary to monitor the health of the Chinese, since the leaves and fruits are easily affected by scab.

Using Chinese apples

Although the Chinese do not use small apples in industry, they are actively consumed fresh and canned. It is very useful to eat them raw, because, like all varieties of apples, they are saturated with vitamins and trace elements, as well as essential amino acids.

In cooking, China is irreplaceable. Made from apples delicious jams, jams and marmalade, marshmallow and jelly are prepared. In spite of small size, they are used to make juices and aromatic wines.

Kitaika apples are great for preserving for the winter in the form of compotes or dried fruits. By adding fresh fruits to the filling, you can cook delicious desserts such as rolls, tori and cakes. They will make an excellent charlotte, and baked apples with honey will fill the whole house with a unique aroma.

Planting and caring for an apple tree

For planting Kitaika, you should choose elevated places where there are no nearby groundwater. The soil is light, slightly sandy.

Landing

Before landing, it is necessary to prepare a hole of such dimensions: 1 m in diameter and 0.8 m deep. It is filled with humus from herbs and leaves, sand and manure. Planting Kitaika is carried out in the spring before the buds begin to bloom, or in the fall (around mid-October). The distance between seedlings is observed at least 6 m.

Care

Caring for the Chinese apple tree is not difficult at all. Since the root system of the plant is not too deep, it is necessary to monitor the near-stem circle and its condition. You should regularly remove weeds and loosen the ground with a rake or aerator so as not to damage the roots and increase oxygen access to them, remove dried leaves and debris.

Fertilizer

A few years after planting, you can begin to fertilize the soil with complex additives. If you are contributing organic fertilizers, then nitrogen must also be added to them (for example, ammonium nitrate in the calculation of 30 g / sq.m).

This procedure is best done in the spring, as fertilizers provoke the active growth of the Kitayki tree. This is necessary so that new growths have time to get stronger to the cold and not suffer from frost.

Watering

The Chinese apple tree is drought tolerant and does not like excess moisture. Watering should be as needed, and if it has passed good rain, then the next 10 days there is no need for moisturizing.

pruning

Chinese pruning begins only a few years after landing. To preserve the decorative appearance of the tree, give the necessary shape to the crown and increase the yield, you should initially select and leave a few skeletal branches, removing all unnecessary ones. After another two years, cut off all the lower shoots, as well as those that stretch inside the crown. Thin branches with a painful look are removed.

We decorate the garden

Since the Chinese apple tree is a low tree with a weeping crown, it can be used as a hedge. During the flowering period, the entire plant is covered with a white carpet, and the entire garden is filled with a fabulous aroma.

Chinese can be used to decorate a flower bed or lawn by planting a tree in the center and surrounding it with flowers. The apple tree loves sunny elevated places and does not take up much space, so it will fit freely into any landscape.

Outcome

The Chinese apple tree is unusual decorative variety. Its fruits have a good taste and are excellent for conservation. The biggest disadvantage is the very short shelf life of the crop.

The fruit tree was obtained by natural hybridization of two species: undersized and berry Siberian. Short description Chinese apple trees are: small spherical fruits, elongated pointed leaves. It has a shallow but strong root system. It is resistant to drought and frost, does not occur in the wild.

In Russia, Kitaika is actively used in breeding. More than ten varieties with official names have been registered. Amateur gardeners often use it as a basis for new seedlings that can withstand the local climate.

Description of the main variety

Chinese woman is short title, but it would be more correct to say "Chinese plum-leafed apple tree." The Americans ranked it among the "crabs", European botanists gave the name "paradisiaca", that is, paradise apples. And Russian scientists do not consider these names synonymous and described Kitaika as a separate variety.

The Chinese have distinctive features. Trunks grow from 5 to 10 meters. In spring, white-pink flowers appear, collected in lush umbrella-shaped bouquets. The branches are directed almost vertically upwards and form a neat crown. The leaves of the apple tree are dark green and narrow, like those of the Chinese plum.

She gives big harvest and is considered beautiful. It looks great in the photo: a neat crown, numerous burgundy or yellow apples with a blush in glossy leaves. The plant is used for decoration. personal plot and creating green hedges and figures.

Fruits appear in August or early September. They are of the correct spherical shape, their diameter is about 3 cm, they grow in clusters. Used for processing Food Industry, and have good feedback from lovers of jam.

Gardeners plant Kitayka to increase the yield. It is the most prolific and blooms more abundantly than the rest. Its pollen is actively involved in cross-pollination.

When caring for plum leaves, you must follow simple rules:

  1. Loosen the earth with a rake around the trunk.
  2. Do not damage the shallow root.
  3. Remove debris, weeds, fallen leaves.
  4. Planting should be done in the spring.
  5. Keep the distance between seedlings more than 6 meters.
  6. Fertilize the soil with complex additives.
  7. Water infrequently and not abundantly.
  8. Do the first pruning after a few years.

The best varieties of Chinese apple trees

Sometimes gardeners do not register new varieties, so fruits that are different in taste, size, color can have one common name. The inhabitants of Siberia call all derivatives of the Chinese apple tree ranetki, but there are also detailed descriptions common varieties:

Golden early

Received in the nursery of the city of Michurinsk at artificial pollination White filling with Chinese pollen. The first fruits were registered in 1907. Trees grow in gardens in the Volga-Vyatka territory.

The sapling already in the third year gives the result. The fruits ripen in July. One apple weighs about 30 grams, diameter 5-7 cm. The name "golden" is given because of the color of the peel. Inside, it is also yellow, sour in taste, but pleasant. The fruits are located at the ends of the branches, which eventually fall under their weight.

Bellefleur Chinese

The variety was bred in 1908 during the pollination of the American Bellefleur apple tree. Now it grows in the North Caucasus, mainly in private gardens. Differs in endurance to the Russian climate. But later it lost its relevance due to the breeding of apple trees with the best qualities.

Fruits in the eighth year after planting. The yield increases with the age of the plant. The average fruit weight is 200 gr. At the exhibition in 1934, the fruits of Bellefleur-Chinese were recognized as the most beautiful and largest. There are cases when gardeners for competitions grew them weighing up to 600 grams.
The yellow peel is covered with thin red stripes. The pulp is fine-grained and white. The taste is sweet-sour. Apples are ready for picking at the end of September. They hold tightly on short stalks. Stored in the refrigerator for up to four months.

Chinese Long

This is the result of American breeding, bred in 1917. Found in the gardens of Bashkiria and northern regions. The variety is frost and disease resistant. The height of the trunks is up to 5 meters. The first fruits appear after three years. They have an oblong shape, like a wild rose, average weight 20 g, rich yellow or red color with a blue tint. The flesh is pink and juicy. According to reviews, the taste is sweetish, but not for everyone. The smell is like plum. Fruits are immediately processed, as after a month of storage they deteriorate. Their main purpose is decoration.

Chinese Kerr

Kerr is derived from a further cross between Kitaika Dolgo and Haralson by Canadian breeders. And combines all the advantages of the main variety. Distributed in middle lane Russia. The first apples appear on a short tree with a compact crown after 3-4 years. The harvest is good, but not every year.

Ripe Kerr apples do not crumble. The maximum weight of one apple is 45 gr. Kerr are perfectly preserved in a cool place until the new year, their taste gradually improves over the four winter months, acquiring sweet honey shades. They serve as a dessert, as a designer find for a photo, and as a decoration for a festive table.

Kitayka Saninskaya

The variety was discovered in 1899 in Samara region Professor Nikolai Ivanovich Kichunov. Barrel height about 9 meters. The crop is harvested at the end of August and shifted for ripening. The Saninsky variety retains its shape until November. During transportation, fruits almost do not deteriorate.

The average weight of one apple is 25 gr. The shape is oval or conical, tapering towards the calyx. Distinctive feature─ ribbed surface and long stem. The color is yellow with a pink blush. The surface is covered with wax. The flesh is yellowish and grainy. According to reviews, Saninsky apples are not very tasty, although they are sweet and without bitterness.

Kandil Chinese

The variety was obtained by Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin by crossing a fifteen-year-old Kitaika tree and pollen of the Crimean variety Kandil sinap. The southern hybrid has been improved for planting in areas with a cold climate.

Kandil is harvested at the end of September, they ripen until December, and are stored until May. next year. The fruits are elongated, their weight is 150 g, the color is yellow-green and red. They are little damaged during transportation, as they have dense flesh and strong skin. peduncle middle length, woody and durable. The flesh is greenish white, granular, pleasant: sweet with sourness and nutmeg flavor.

Pepin Saffron
