How to grow green onions for sale. Business ideas: growing onions

Onion greens, rich in vitamins and minerals, can be grown indoors different ways, for example, water.

Knowing how to grow onions at home in water, you will get spicy all year round. green feather for use in salads and other dishes. We will find out how the water technology for obtaining home greens differs, so that by growing it, strengthen the immune system at any time of the year and not know colds.

To grow a good crop of onion greens, it is important to follow a few rules:

  • Distillation utensils should be treated with a manganese solution so that the onion does not hurt or rot.
  • Onions can be immersed in water so that the water touches only the bottom with roots.

If the onion is completely immersed in water, it will soon begin to rot.

  • Before the roots grow, we remove the container in a cool place, changing the water daily, in the mornings and evenings. As soon as the feather begins to grow, we change the water once a day.

When fertilizing, when fertilizers dissolve in water, we change it every 7 days, otherwise the plants do not have time to absorb nutrients.

  • We occasionally wash the roots in running water and take out the onion from the jars for three hours so that the roots do not rot.

For continuous green feather production, add new onion containers a couple of weeks after the “planting” of the previous batch.

If you don't feel like messing around with containers and soil and prefer a cleaner way to grow onion greens, here's how to plant onions at home in water.

bulb preparation

For forcing greens into water conditions we use bulbs untouched by disease and mechanical damage with a diameter of about 4 cm (the size should be approximately the same).

We prepare the onions for planting in this way:

  • We cut the planting material to the base.
  • Withstand 20 min. in hot water(50 degrees) with the addition of potassium permanganate.
  • We hold 10 min. in cold water- for hardening, and peel off the husk.

Having prepared the onion, we will learn how to grow it in water at room conditions.

Planting bulbs on a feather in water

Forcing the onion with the water method is usually done in glass jars, deep bowls or other containers with a wide mouth. Alternatively, plastic food containers can be used.

To prevent the onion from rotting, do the following:

  • We take a thick cardboard according to the size of the container.
  • We cut holes slightly smaller than the diameter planting material.
  • Pour water into a bowl.
  • We cover the container with cardboard and insert the onions into the holes so that only the root part touches the water.

If you want to know how to plant onions at home in water in a regular plate, pour some settled or filtered water into it (room temperature), and put a few onions there so that they are only a quarter immersed in the liquid.

By planting onions in water, we will get the first crop of green feathers after a couple of weeks. The height of the pen by that time will reach about 15 cm.

How to speed up onion forcing in water

To know how to quickly grow at home green onion in water, and get as much greenery as possible, apply top dressing with mineral fertilizers.

Ways to fertilize green onions:

  • We feed the plants with a solution of a liter of water and 2 teaspoons of complex fertilizers.
  • We fertilize the “plantings” with a nutrient solution by dissolving potassium chloride (1.5 g), ammonium nitrate (1.5 g) and superphosphate (2 g) in a liter of water.
  • We feed the onion by dissolving in a liter of water wood ash- 5 years

We add nutrient solutions to the water when the roots and green feathers appear, but not before.

So, you have learned how to grow onions at home in water on your own, without extra hassle and spending. Try this way to get vitamin greens, and all year round grow fragrant spicy - spicy greens at home!

AT open field green onions can be obtained in three ways: by sowing seeds directly into the ground, planting seedlings and planting bulbs - sevkom and sampling.

Growing green onions from seeds. The soil for onions on greens must be carefully prepared. Choose areas that are not flooded with melt water. Under digging, various rotted fertilizers are applied. Sowing is best done on ridges that are prepared in the fall. In the spring, the ridges are carefully loosened. Seeds are sown as soon as soil conditions allow, at the end of April and no later than the first five days of May. Four or five rows are placed on the ridge. Seeds are soaked before sowing. Sow in moist soil, rows to a depth of 1-2 cm close up with earth.
With the advent of seedlings, the first feeding is carried out with urea (carbamide) - 25-30 g per 10 liters of water, or with mullein, or chicken droppings. The mullein is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:8-10, litter - 1:10-12. The solution is applied at the rate of 10 l/m 2 . After feeding, the crops are watered. Feeding is repeated after 15-20 days. The soil is maintained in a loose and sufficiently moist, but not waterlogged state. During the growing period, four to five irrigations are carried out.

Pesticides are not used in the cultivation of green onions. Green onions are ready for harvest when the leaves have reached a height of 25-30 cm. When spring sowing seeds it occurs in July. Growing green onions from seedlings. In this case, the yield of green onions is higher than when sown with seeds. Used for planting various varieties, including the south.
Sowing seeds for seedlings and all agricultural techniques are the same as with seedling method growing onions for turnips. Seeds are sown 50-60 days before transplanting plants into the ground. Seedlings are planted in well seasoned and loose soil in the phase of three or four leaves. Rows are planned on the ridges, which are watered before planting at the rate of 10-15 l / m 2. Rows on the ridge are placed after 20-25 cm, in a row the interval between plants is 4 cm.

After planting, the plants are well watered at the rate of 10-15 l / m 2 and mulched with humus or peat. The rows are immediately pollinated with a mixture of tobacco dust and lime, as in the case of growing green onions from seeds. When the plants reach a height of 25-30 cm, they are thinned out through one; the remaining plants quickly increase the mass of leaves, which can be harvested at a height of 30-40 cm.

Forcing green onions from sets and sampling. This method makes it possible to get green onions in early spring, when there are no other vegetables in the open field. For distillation, multi-bearing varieties Bessonovsky, Pogarsky local improved, Spassky local improved, Rostov onion, Arzamas local, as well as vegetatively propagated local onions, are better. If such planting material is not available, other zoned varieties can be used, but the yield of green onions in this case will be less. This method allows you to grow green onions during autumn and spring plantings.

For forcing onions, the most humus-rich areas are selected, or they are abundantly applied before tillage. organic fertilizers- 4-5 kg/m2. In addition, nitrogen is used - 15-20 g, superphosphate-30-35 g and potassium salt-20-25 g / m 2. They can be replaced with nitrophoska - 30-35 g / m 2.

In autumn, planting is carried out on the ridges no later than 2-3 weeks before the onset of stable cold weather in a half-bridge way / j with a distance between the bulbs in a row of 1 cm. The distance between the rows is left 10 cm or planted continuously in a bridge or half-bridge way. For distillation, samples weighing 20-40 g are used. Depending on the method of planting, 1 m 2 requires from 3 to 12 kg of onion samples.

When planting, do not press the bulbs into the soil, as the soil under them is compacted and makes it difficult for roots to grow. The bulbs are placed in loose soil and sprinkled with earth on top with a layer of 3-4 cm, and with the onset of cold weather, additional earth, humus or peat is poured with a layer of 6-10 cm. The shelter contributes to a better overwintering of the bulbs. In early spring, with the beginning of the snow melting, the shelter is removed. In May, the onions are ready for harvest.

To speed up the growth of onions, film shelters are used on a frame 35-60 cm high. Snow is previously removed from the ridges. Under shelters, plants are fed with nitrogen fertilizers at a rate of 15-20 g / m 2 and watered with warm water - this accelerates the growth of leaves, and the onion is ready for harvest 8-12 days earlier.

For spring planting the ridges are also prepared in the fall, at the same time the soil is filled with fertilizers. Select a site that is not flooded with melt water. Landing is carried out as early as possible: spring frosts not dangerous. Onions are planted in a bridge or half-bridge way or in rows with a distance between them and the bulbs of 5-10 cm. The crop will come in steps over time over 30-40 days. In small fractions of leaves, less is formed, in large ones - more. The consumption of planting material when planting a sevkom is 1.5-2 kg / m 2. Full commercial ripeness of onions occurs in 50-60 days, then the leaves become coarse and lose their commercial qualities.

Plant care consists of watering, nitrogen fertilizing and loosening during row planting.

Water onions on greens infrequently, but plentifully. The first top dressing is given at the beginning of regrowth (25-30 g of urea per bucket of water), the second - at a leaf height of 10-12 cm (30-40 g of urea per bucket of water), while 10 l / m 2 solution is consumed.

Green onions in protected ground. The most common among amateur vegetable growers for growing green onions are structures with film shelter. Under such shelters, onion samples and sets are planted starting from the first decade of October.

To do this, well-dried healthy bulbs are planted on the ridges on fertile, non-flooded areas with melt water using a bridge or half-bridge method. After planting, they are covered with soil with a layer of 1-2 cm, then with humus or dry peat with a layer of 4-6 cm.

In the spring, snow is removed from the landings and covered with a film stretched over the frames. The installation time of the shelter depends on the availability of heating. If there is additional heating, the shelter can be installed in March, in the absence of its film, it is stretched in April. Shelters are made on wooden frame or use wire arcs. Frame height -35-60 cm.
With the beginning of the regrowth of the leaves, one or two irrigations with warm water are carried out with the simultaneous application of nitrogen fertilizers.

Under film shelters, you can get green onions and late autumn. To do this, it is better to use onion samples selected from bulbs. southern varieties; the bulbs of the multi-bearing varieties of the northern and middle zones of Russia, after harvesting, fall into long time dormant and do not grow back.

For cultivation in October - November, the most suitable varieties of onions are from Azerbaijan (Massalinsky local, etc.) and from the republics of Central Asia - Farabsky local, Samarkand red, and Karatalsky.

If bulbs of varieties are used for distillation at this time middle lane, requires special preparation of planting material. The bulbs are soaked in warm water at a temperature of 30-35 ° C for 12-24 hours, then cut off at the shoulders; they also make shallow vertical incisions in the neck of the bulb or two or three times pricking from the side of the neck. Before planting, the cut bulbs are slightly dried for 1-2 days so that the cut does not rot after filling it with earth. Plant care is the same as when growing without shelters; if the temperature exceeds 25°C, the film is lifted to ventilate the structure. Otherwise, the growth of the leaves is greatly accelerated, they turn pale, become thin, easily fall down, and lose their marketable appearance.

Watering plants with all methods of cultivation is stopped 2-3 days before harvesting. In this case, the roots are more easily released from the soil, the leaves are not polluted by the earth.

Green onions are not only a source of valuable vitamins, but also a great way to start your own business. Every year this product is produced in large quantities for sale. In 3-4 months you can adjust small business, having studied the market and mastered the cultivation technology and distribution channels.

Sales organization is key. You should not believe the articles that state that “the main thing is to grow good harvest, and the buyer will be found himself.

Experienced businessmen grow onions all year round: in the warm season - in field conditions, in a greenhouse - in winter. Profitability this business depends on organizational issues and averages 30% in winter and 50% in summer. To grow green onions for sale, it is necessary to take into account a number of additional factors and pitfalls, which will be discussed in the article.

The subtleties of the organization

This business idea has many advantages and features that every novice businessman should consider:

  1. Relatively short production cycle - in a month you can get the first harvest of green onions.
  2. Low labor costs - on average, about 1 hour of working time is spent on processing 10 m². This means that one worker can cultivate about 80 m² of land per day.
  3. Personnel for planting seeds, tilling soil and harvesting may be low-skilled.
  4. Some technologies allow growing onions using racks of 3-4 tiers, which significantly increases productivity from the site.
  5. There are special conditions for growing onions: lighting from 12 to 15 hours a day, temperature regime- 15-18º C, watering (peak need 4 liters per 1 m²).

The choice of varieties for growing green onions

It is possible to achieve high yields through the use of multi-germ species. For industrial cultivation often used the following varieties green onions:

  • Leek - characterized by a wide feather, juicy rich taste. Productivity - 20 kg / 9 m².
  • Batun - oblong leaves of light green color, bright rich taste. The plant can be cut up to three times. Productivity - 25-35 kg / 9 m².
  • Shallot - characterized by resistance to bad weather conditions, has long long unfading feathers. Productivity - 45 kg / 9 m².
  • Egyptian - resistant variety, can grow and develop even in a slight frost. Productivity - 35-40 kg / 9 m².

Growing technologies

There are several basic ways to grow onions:

1. Landing in open ground with daily watering. The first planting is carried out in the spring after frost. Instead of bulbs, you can use seeds (preferably Dutch or Japanese producers).

The advantages of this method:

  • low costs for organizing a business;
  • simplicity.

Disadvantages:

  • seasonal dependence (no more than three harvests per year, depending on weather conditions and varieties)
  • use of large plots of land.

2. Greenhouse method. Its advantages:

  • simplicity;
  • maximum profitability;
  • use of a small area due to tiers;
  • independence from weather conditions.

Disadvantages:

  • high cost of the project (for building a greenhouse, installing racks, organizing irrigation, etc.).

3. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in artificial gardens without soil. The home hydroponic plant is an advanced agricultural growing technology that gives high yields. Remember how in childhood, at school, the teacher wrapped the bulb with wet cotton wool, and after two weeks it sprouted. This is the essence of hydroponics in a primitive version.

Technology advantages:

  • maximum profitability;
  • use of small areas;
  • there is no need to spend money on soil fertilizer;
  • you can grow onions on racks;
  • independence from weather conditions;
  • reduction of pen forcing time to presentation(about 16 days).

The disadvantage of hydroponics is one - the high cost. But this method is one of the most promising, suitable for those who want to build a reliable and stable business.

Demand

Onion contains almost all the vitamins and minerals necessary for a person, improves immunity. Therefore, green onions are in demand all year round. Only the price of the product changes - in summer it is cheap, in the cold season the price increases several times.

Business registration

Industrial cultivation of onions on a feather as a business requires compulsory registration in government bodies. Without proper registration, no wholesale buyer will cooperate with you. First you need to choose the form of doing business - LLC or IP. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can register yourself, for this, contact the tax office at the place of residence. If there is not enough time to collect documents, this can be done by a specialized law firm for a fee.

Financial calculations

If you want to build a serious business with big profits, choose high-tech methods. Despite the need big investments, you will get a profitable business that will quickly pay off the investment.

Consider estimated costs for hydroponic installation. In many ways, they depend on the level of automation, materials, grades. Onion cultivation will be carried out in our own premises of 50 m² by installing racks - which will increase total area up to 80 m².

Financial business plan: starting investments:

  • purchase of lamps - $ 150;
  • purchase of wires (100 meters) - $ 50;
  • installation of lighting - $ 50;
  • shelving (2 floors) - $ 200;
  • shelving tubs, $500;
  • installation of a working surface (for the preparation of planting material) - $ 150;
  • hydroponic technologies (without automation): compressors, hoses, pumps - $400;
  • additional hydroponic installations – $300

As can be seen from the calculations, the initial cost is $1,800.

Monthly costs for 1 cycle of growing green onions:

  • purchase of sedimentary material - $150;
  • lighting costs - $ 10;
  • heating costs (in cold weather) - $ 40;
  • watering costs - $ 20.

Total - $ 220 per month.

Calculation of profit and methods of implementation

Based on the example, the output in one cycle can be obtained approximately 550 kg finished products- green onions. For further implementation, you can choose one of the methods:

  1. independent sale;

By organizing several points of sale, for 1 kg of onion feathers, you can set a price of $ 4. This will add the cost of organizing trading place and additional staff. If you plan to sell the product in bulk, the price will drop to $2.

How great it is in summer and winter to always have fresh herbs on hand, for example, an onion feather. After all, it is so often needed for salads and pies, and it is very easy to grow it right on the windowsill. In this article you will find 2 step by step instructions how to grow green onions at home on water or in the ground.

Method 1. How to grow onions for greens in water

It would seem that this method of growing onions at home is so simple and known to everyone that it does not even require instructions. After all, you just need to put the head in the water and wait for the harvest. However, this method has two problems - the rapid decay of the vegetable and the appearance bad smell. To minimize these costs and speed up the growth process, we suggest growing onions according to the following improved instructions.

What you will need:

  1. Ordinary bulb from the store. Ideally, it is better to pick up an already sprouted bow with small arrows. However, any medium-sized onion will do, as long as the head is dense and healthy.
  2. A glass or jar with a small neck.
  3. Settled water.
  4. Activated charcoal 1-2 tablets.

Instruction:

Step 1. First of all, you need to prepare the bulb for forcing. To do this, first clean the onion from the top layer of the husk, pierce its root cup with a skewer and cut off the top of the head by 1-1.5 cm as shown in the photo (if the onion is already germinated, then you do not need to cut off the top).

Step 3. After one day, when the onion roots grow, you can drain the water from the glass a little so that the water covers only them and does not touch the cup. This simple technique will allow the onion to rot longer and not emit an unpleasant odor.

Step 4. It remains only to wait 2 weeks and during this time periodically change the water. Once the feathers have grown to about 15 cm, it's time to harvest.

Tips and Tricks:

  • To keep the onion from rotting even longer, add 1-2 tablets of activated charcoal to the water.
  • If you want to grow a lot of onions at home with a minimum of effort, purchase an Onion Happiness hydroponic setup from the store. It works as follows: 20 heads are inserted into the wells, the container is filled with water, then the compressor creates an air-water environment. Due to the fact that the root cups almost do not come into contact with water, the bulbs do not rot, and due to the saturation of the roots with oxygen, they give 2 crops per month with a length of 30-40 cm.

  • It is very convenient to germinate a dozen bulbs in an egg pack on the windowsill at once. In order to build such a “hydroponic installation” with your own hands, you just need to divide the container into two halves, cut holes in the cells of the upper “tier”, and fill the lower “tray” with water and cut off excess tubercles from it. Then fold the two parts on top of each other and put wooden skewers between them, as shown in the photo below.

  • By the same principle, you can grow leeks bought in a store with your own hands on the windowsill. To do this, cut off the white roots from the feathers (pictured below), and then place them in a container of water, only 1 cm deep. Leave the roots for 2 weeks in water, changing it periodically (preferably every day). However, a week after forcing, when young shoots appear, the leek can be transplanted into the ground.

Method 2. How to grow onions for greens in the ground

It is best to grow onions on a feather at home in the ground, and not in water. It's almost as simple, but the bulb will be able to produce at least 2 crops, stand for 1-2 months and still have little to no smell. In addition, if you plant turnips in a pretty pot, then your mini-bed will also decorate your windowsill.

What you will need:

  1. Priming. In winter you can buy suitable soil in the store (eg, it can be a mix for cacti with a high content of sand or just an all-purpose soil), and in the summer - take the soil from the nearest plot of land.
  2. Several small healthy bulbs, preferably not fresh, but lain down for a couple of months and lowered the sprouts. If you wish, you can grow sevok on a feather, but then you will have to wait longer for the feathers, and you won’t be able to use the germinated sevok a second time. Another alternative to onions is leeks. It must first be germinated in water for 7 days (as described in the first instruction) and only then transplanted into the ground.
  3. Container, pot or any other suitable size container.
  4. Settled water for irrigation.

Instruction:

Step 1. From the selected turnips, remove one layer of the top husk, cut off 1-1.5 cm of the tops (if the bulbs are without sprouts), and then soak their root cups for a couple of hours or more in warm water so that they germinate a little. All these tricks will accelerate the growth of feathers.

Step 2. While the bulbs are soaking, we fill the soil with a depth of 4-7 cm into the container.

Step 3. Now we plant bulbs or sets every 2 cm, but without deepening. That is, so that only the root cups of the heads are in contact with the soil. Remember that the less contact the bulb has with the soil, the less likely it is to rot. When you have planted all the onions, water the ground with a small amount of warm water so that the soil becomes slightly moist, and the onions do not get wet.

  • To plant sevok on a feather, you need to use loose soil and onions plant a depth of 1-2 cm tightly to each other.
  • To plant a leek, it must also be dug into loose soil to a depth of 2 cm. However, it will take longer to wait for the harvest - about three weeks.

Step 4. You should not immediately place the onion bed on the windowsill: it is better to put it in a dark, cool place for germination for just a few days. If you planted an already lying and sprouted onion, then you can do without this stage.

STEP 5. Well, that's it. Now it remains only to wait a couple of weeks, when the greens grow to 15 cm, and at this time lightly water the garden bed once every 3-4 days. You need to cut off mature feathers in the middle of the bunch and not too close to the bulb, then it will have sprouts that will soon give the next crop.

Tips and Tricks:

  • To save space on the windowsill, you can create vertical garden. To do this, take a 5-liter plastic bottle with a stable bottom, cut off its neck, make several holes in the bottom and cut holes on the walls in a checkerboard pattern with an interval of 3-4 cm (you will get about 4 tiers). Then gradually start filling the bottle with soil.

  • As soon as the soil reaches the first tier, place the bulbs in the holes as shown in the photo above, water the soil and repeat the steps to fill the bottle to the very top. Put the bottle on a plate and water the soil every 4 days for 2 weeks.

  • Leek and onion can be grown on the same bed.
  • Another secret: to always have fresh greens in the house, grow onions in 2-3 containers, planting them every 10 days. Then you get a "vitamin conveyor".
  • To speed up the growth process and improve the taste of greenery, in the evening and at night the bed on the windowsill can be highlighted fluorescent lamp. This advice is especially relevant in winter.
  • Also, for greater juiciness, you can periodically spray feathers, but so that moisture does not fall on the turnips themselves.
  • In summer, make sure that the temperature in the area of \u200b\u200bthe windowsill where onions grow does not rise above 30 °. Otherwise, the pen will stop growing. To protect the crop from overheating, you can wrap the tray with foil.

Green onions are so versatile that they can be grown anywhere. climatic conditions. Whether you have a spacious yard, a tiny patio, or just a sunny window, you can grow green onions and enjoy their fresh, tangy flavor in salads, soups, and casseroles. Read this article for a few easy ways to grow this vegetable.

Steps

Growing green onions from seeds or seedlings

    Choose the type of onion you want to grow. Green onions are shoots that appear before the bulb begins to form. They are mostly unripe. Look for copious amounts of onion seeds, such as A. fistulosum, or simply choose your favorite white, red, or yellow onion to grow.

    Prepare the site for planting. Choose a spot in your yard or garden that receives a fair amount of sunlight and the soil absorbs water well. Plow the ground to a depth of 30 cm and treat with fertilizer, blood meal or other organic product that would enrich the soil nutrients. This will ensure that the green onions grow strong and healthy and continue to sprout throughout the growing season.

    • Make sure you clear the soil you will be plowing and working from stones, sticks and weeds.
    • You can work the land with a rake if you work on small area. For larger area buy or rent a tillage machine to make the job easier.
    • If you want to grow some green onions, you can prepare a pot with fertilizer-rich soil instead of planting them in the ground.
  1. Plant seeds or seedlings. Once the soil is ready, about 4 weeks before the last frost, it's time to plant the harvested seeds or seedlings. If you have seeds, sow them thickly about 1 cm deep in a row 30 cm apart. If you have seedlings, plant them root down 5 cm apart and 2 cm deep in rows 30 cm apart. Water the bed thoroughly.

    • Onion seeds germinate when the soil temperature is between 18 and 30 degrees Celsius. Onion seeds may take about a month to germinate.
    • If you live in an area with a cold climate and late spring, you can plant seeds indoors up to 8 weeks before the last frost. Plant the seeds in peat pots for seedlings and water well. Place them in a warm, sunny place during the germination period. When the ground outside is warm enough to plant, transplant the seedlings into a garden or larger pot.
  2. Increase the distance between plants if necessary. As the first green shoots begin to sprout, determine whether to increase the distance between them to give each a little more space. Green onions grow well in bunches, but for best results, mature plants should be spaced 5-7 cm apart. Take a look at your bed and remove the weakest seedlings if necessary.

  3. Mulch the soil between seedlings. Cover the soil around the seedlings with grass clippings, pine straw, or thin pieces of bark. This will prevent weeds from sprouting and keep the soil evenly moist.

    • If you're growing green onions in a pot, you can skip this step as weeds won't be a problem and you can easily control the moisture level.
  4. Water generously. Green onions need evenly moist soil throughout growing season. Provide onions with about 3 centimeters of water per week. For optimal plant growth, the soil should not be damp, but should be kept moist. Water the bed every few days, or when it starts to look dry and dusty.

    • Another way to determine if an onion needs watering is to check the condition of the soil. Insert your finger up to the second joint into the soil the plant is in. If you feel the soil is dry, water it. If you think the soil is wet enough, don't worry about watering, and test again in a few days. If it has recently rained, there is no need to water.
  5. Harvest green onions when they are ripe. After 3-4 weeks, the green shoots will reach 15-20 cm in length and will be ready to eat. Collect them by pulling the whole plant out of the ground entirely. The plant will not yet have a formed bulb. Both parts of the onion, white and green, are edible.

    • If you want some of the plants to mature into full-fledged bulbs, just leave them in the ground. Bulbs will begin to form at the bottom of the plants, ready to be harvested in the fall.
    • If you only want to use the green part of the onion and not the white part that is close to the roots, you can use scissors to just cut off the green tops. Leave 2-5 cm for growth. The onion will continue to grow and you will be able to harvest the green crop again as soon as it reaches 15-20 cm in length. Note that they will take on a stronger flavor as the plant matures.

    Growing green onions in a glass jar

    Any type of clean glass jars fit. Just make sure the glass is clean and not colored so that the sun's rays can easily reach the onion inside. Put as many green onions inside as you want - just make sure the roots are facing down so the greens will grow out of the jar.
    • If you choose to continue growing green onions, change the water about once a week to keep them fresh.
  • You can start growing seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the start of the growing season and then transplant them into the ground outside. If green onions do not germinate from seeds, you can purchase already planted plants in the nursery.
  • Water more frequently if growing onions in containers, as the soil usually dries out faster.
  • When using onions, leave about 2 cm above the root for transplanting. Transplanting will provide you with a stable green onion crop throughout the season.
  • The bow must be on open sun. If possible, keep the soil pH in balance between 6.0 and 7.5 pH. This will provide optimal conditions for onion growth.
