Application method

Applied to different kinds plasters, concrete, brick, drywall, fiberboard, chipboard, etc. with a flexible stainless steel trowel. To get high decorative properties coating, it is very important to use a quality tool without chips or nicks. The classic pattern is achieved through the multi-layer application of the material (up to 6 layers) and the use of its various shades. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare several containers with plaster of the required colors before starting work.

The first layer of Venetian decorative plaster is applied with a wide spatula in separate strokes with spaces. Subsequent layers are applied with a spatula of smaller size in separate short asymmetrical strokes with gaps that partially cover the resulting gaps. And so on until the surface is completely covered and the spotting becomes barely perceptible. Before applying the next layer, allow the previous one to dry. Then, carefully cutting off the “combs” from the smear, each layer is carefully leveled and polished with a spatula (iron method). Thus, irregularities are removed and the coating acquires shine. The last layer is polished with cloth, fur, etc. For extra shine, the surface can be coated with a special wax or varnish. Due to the translucency of the plaster layers, the effect of volume and depth is achieved. Other application methods are also possible.

The assortment of plaster offered by hardware stores is very rich. This is due to the invention by manufacturers of new ways to solve wall decoration. Often putty is a dry mixture, which includes substances that determine its variety. Production allows you to achieve the maximum quality of the material and set the necessary properties for it. Thus, the plaster is durable, does not peel off and does not crack from temperature changes.

Of all these materials, decorative plaster is especially popular. In addition to its main functions (surface leveling, insulation), it also performs the function of decorating walls and carries an aesthetic load. With this option, the interior of any house or apartment will turn into a real masterpiece. This contributes huge selection texture solutions and colors offered by manufacturers.

Varieties

Varieties of decorative plaster on the market in Russia:

  • Mineral, based on natural minerals (white cement). Characteristic positive features are considered to be increased vapor permeability, fire resistance and low cost. The disadvantages are manifested as a slight adhesion and low, compared with other options, elasticity.
  • Polymer, in which acrylic resins and other similar substances are added. This material has a large list good qualities. It is resistant to intense exposure to ultraviolet rays and high temperatures. Also a high level of adhesion, vapor permeability and moisture resistance. The production of this mixture sets itself the task of improving its quality by increasing water-repellent properties.
  • Silicone. Expensive option. It is even more versatile and durable. The photo shows options. color solutions rooms made with this material.

Plaster is intended for front and internal works. The market in our country is saturated with foreign and local samples. Production this material in the Russian Federation set the task of increasing the quality of products and making them competitive in the world market. The five well-known manufacturers occupy the most confident position, and are popular with customers. These include:

  • BauMit;
  • Ceresit;
  • Tex Color;
  • PERMURO;
  • caparol.

Each of the listed manufacturing companies provides a different product. Colors, features and prices of the offered decorative plaster differ from each other. Tex-Color, for example, has the best prices, the texture of the product is called lamb, it is very easy to dye. BauMit specializes in trading varieties of bark beetles and lamb beetles, the quality of the products is high, but the prices are also significant.

Manufacturers of Ceresit and Caparol on this moment leading both in Russia and abroad. All indicators of their goods, except for prices, are high. These German companies achieved their position by providing good products at a relatively low cost. The production set itself the task of creating high-quality putty from ordinary materials, which made it possible to make it accessible to ordinary users.

Decorative plaster firm PERMURO is resistant to wear and different kind mechanical influences. It is mainly used for exterior finish. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to find it in construction stores because it sells out quickly. At the moment, the task is to increase the supply of putty in order to meet the demand of buyers.

Market features

Masters say that the demand for such a facade finishing material as decorative plaster is increasing quite dynamically in Russia. The reasons for this state of affairs are related to the fact that many knowledgeable and practical people want to minimize gas consumption during the heating season. High-quality putty is not only a beautiful wall decor, but also an excellent insulating material.

Also at the moment, the number of luxury housing is growing in the country. This factor gives the lion's share of the request for this product. Specialists carried out observations of this structure. From them it becomes known that the previous three years have become decisive for manufacturers, their number has increased significantly. This entailed an increase in the number of importers, distributors and intermediaries of this plaster.

Sale of decorative plaster

The main interest in the turnover of such products is demonstrated by cities and regions with a population of about a million (Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Volgograd). Moreover, this material of well-known manufacturers is mainly traditionally used for warming houses. Also, such a product sells well in cities where a large percentage of the population has high earnings.

According to the forecasts of many analysts, the market for these products in Russia will grow significantly every next year. The increase mainly depends on the constant demand for expensive plasters that have an interesting texture and color. Many professional marketers associate these prospects with changes in the consumer culture of citizens. Domestic manufacturers, in order to stay afloat, need to reconsider their pricing policy and increase the quality of decorative plaster.

No matter how many new finishing materials appear, few of them can compete with an incredible variety of decorative plaster coatings. Moreover, their manufacturers also do not waste time, and constantly expand the assortment offered to our attention.

But how can an ignorant person navigate the sea of brands and names, effects and application technologies? The video in this article on the topic: "Production of decorative plaster" will answer many of your questions.

The difference between decorative plaster and coating is that it does not require subsequent finishing, but in itself is a decor. Of course, finishing painting can be done (see Do-it-yourself painting of decorative plaster), but most often, the plaster mortar is tinted in bulk. Glazing translucent compositions are simply applied on top, which are designed to emphasize the pattern, make the color deeper, and also protect the surface from contamination.

  • It should be noted the versatility of decorative plaster, as finishing material, as it is perfect for both facades and interiors. Another thing is that in both cases they use different reliefs and artistic effects - but this is quite normal.

  • Today there is such a variety on sale that it is not surprising to simply get confused. Nevertheless, beautiful names imported mixtures, translated into Russian sometimes just mean something like “plaster”, or “ decorative coating».

When choosing, keep in mind that different plasters can be oriented to create the same effect. But it often happens that from the same plaster you can make several different options coatings - and mind you, do it yourself, using the most primitive devices.

Instructions on this topic will be given a little later, but for now let's figure out how decorative plasters should be classified in general.

Classification of plasters by decorative effect

Technology for the production of plaster mixtures for last years has undergone many changes. Previously, formulations based on the use of gypsum as a binder were intended only for internal use. Today, most decorative plasters are modified with polymer additives that give them water-repellent properties, and the same Venetian can now be seen not only indoors, but also on the facade.

If you try to classify plasters by decorative qualities and compositions, they can be divided into five categories. Two of them are thin-layer options based on polymer resins and colloidal cement glue (microcement). The other three types are made on the basis of mineral fillers.

These are terrazite plasters; compositions containing crumbs of natural stone - as well as textural plasters that allow you to work in the sgraffito technique. All of them differ in components, application methods and layer processing options.

Plaster with crumbs and terrazzo

Such plasters are used mainly for facades, and can be made directly on the construction site. Therefore, let's say a few words about how to produce decorative plaster based on natural stone chips.

  • A solution is prepared from Portland cement, and ceramic, granite, or marble chips with a fraction of 3 to 5 mm are added to it. The final color of the coating depends both on the shade of the filler used and on the color of the solution, which is obtained either through the use of colored cement or by tinting.

  • Marble or granite screenings most often have bright hues, and in order to shade them and make them more expressive, pigments such as iron minium, ocher, chromium oxide are added to the solutions. This is how a solution for a decorative coating is prepared, but the preparatory layer is performed in the traditional way.
  • It is very important that the leveled base is well dried before the decoration in the form of a pebble mortar is applied to it. The hardened plaster coating is moistened with water from the spray gun, the decorative layer is applied continuously and leveled.
  • After a day, the coating is washed with a scattered water jet until the cement milk stops flowing. Thanks to washing, the cement layer is partially removed, and a pronounced granular texture remains. At the same time, it seems that the crumb itself stuck to the surface. Well, how beautiful it can be, you can judge from the photo below.

  • Plasters based on stone chips are also sold in ready-made, complete with tinted quartz primer, and varnish to protect the finished coating. But if you consider that the price for a bucket with a capacity of 15 kg, which is enough for plastering 12m2 of a wall, costs at least 2000 rubles - and this is without taking into account soil and protection - then it is easy to calculate how much the entire facade will cost.
  • In large-scale construction, to create a crumb coating on the facade, they also use a method in which the crumb is not added to the solution at all. In this case, it is thrown onto a plastic layer of colored plaster with the help of a pneumatic tool - a crumb thrower. This technology allows not only to improve the quality of the coating, but also to significantly increase the productivity of work.

  • Terrazit plaster is usually used for finishing facades. administrative buildings. It is similar to pebble, but its fundamental difference is crushed mica, which is present in the plaster composition, occupying about ten percent of the total volume. Stone chips are also there: its fraction can be either very small, only 1 mm, or quite large, up to 6 mm.

In addition, additives such as crushed ceramics and anthracite can also be found in terrazitic plaster. The technology of its application is similar to pebble, only after hardening it is still processed with a metal brush or cycles - depending on what texture: rough or smooth is required to be obtained.

Variety of plasters for sgraffito

This type of plaster coating is the most labor intensive and difficult to perform, and therefore is used only for decoration. individual elements facades, or to create accents in interiors. By and large, the term "sgraffito" does not refer to plaster, as such, but to a technique that allows, due to artistic painting, or mechanical processing of layers, to perform patterns, ornaments and drawings on the surface.

So:

  • In this case, thin-layer colored plasters based on gypsum or cement are used. And here cardinal difference them from other decorative plasters lies in the fact that the composition contains not only additives that improve the plasticity of the solution, but also additives that slow down the hardening of the screed. This is very important, so you need not only to have time to apply and smooth the layer, but also to make an ornament.

  • It is clear that such work, which we see in the example presented above, is only possible for the master. A person engaged in such work should, at a minimum, be able to draw. So if you are endowed with artistic talent, then you may well try to create at least a small panel for a start.
  • In general, stencils can also be used to create beautiful ornaments using the sgraffito technique. If you just want to get a discreet relief that could be applied over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe walls, then you can make such a coating using simple tools like textured roller or stamp.

Note! When working with textured plaster, you can apply not only some artistic talents, but also just a little imagination. All those reliefs that today are made with the help of primitive devices and improvised materials can also, by and large, be attributed to sgraffito.

  • These are fashionable textures today brickwork, concrete, “wave”, “reed”, as well as a relief with the “grass” effect, which is performed using a rubber roller with a rope wound around it. As they say, cheap and cheerful. After all, wet plaster can be drawn like a landscape sheet: to give the appearance of a wall sheathed with large-format panels, to imitate cladding, and not only from brick, but even from torn stone.
  • If you want the surface of the coating to have a rough texture, please print a piece of foam rubber on wet plaster, and here is a surface that looks like concrete or brick. You just have to give it the appropriate color, decorate it with a glazing composition on top - and you will get a gorgeous coating.
  • A similar relief can be made even by plasterboard sheathing, but it will give the impression that you have a brick wall in front of you. For this, you need something: a long wooden ruler, and a piece of rail 10 mm thick, with which you will imitate the jointing of masonry joints.

  • Most decorative plasters designed for independent work, which come ready-made from the manufacturer, have exactly the properties that are necessary for making reliefs in the sgraffito style. Many of them are focused on some specific effect - for example: imitation of the rough surface of a natural stone called travertine.
  • On a well-leveled surface, it is enough to apply only one layer, the thickness of which is dictated by the fraction of the filler. On the plasticity-preserving plaster, grooves are drawn with a spatula and slightly smoothed with a trowel.

If the solution is tinted in bulk, then a day after applying the layer, the wall can be treated with colored wax, and then wipe off its excess by going into the recesses and pores of the coating, the wax will make them more contrasting. If you do not tint the plaster, then decorative paint is used to give the coating color. As you can see, there is no particular difficulty in applying it - watch the video once, and you can repeat what you saw yourself without any problems.

Thin-layer plasters

In principle, most decorative plasters are thin-layer, since they are not intended for surface leveling. And if so, then at the time of their application, the surface must be plastered in the traditional way, using the base composition. Finishing putty, in this case, will replace the decorative coating.

  • One of the options for thin-layer plasters are compositions based on colloidal (finely dispersed) cement glue. Their fundamental difference from other cement-based plasters is the fact that the dry components - both Portland cement and sand - are crushed together in a vibrating mill to a state of dust.
  • Coloring can be done either by using colored cements or by adding alkali-resistant pigments to white cement. Thanks to such a fine grinding, when applied, the plaster particles fill the smallest pores in the base, which gives the best adhesion - moreover, they fit perfectly not only on concrete, screed or drywall, but also on wood, and even on plastic.

  • In addition to colloidal glue, river or mountain sand with a fraction of up to 1 mm is taken to mix the solution, and sand obtained as a result of crushing stone: limestone, granite, or the same marble is also added to it. All this is mixed with water, and since this type of plaster is used mainly for finishing facades, modifying additives are necessarily added to them, which give the composition water-repellent properties.
  • The mixture is stirred for about seven minutes and simultaneously subjected to two-frequency treatment in the activator until its viscosity decreases. The solution is usually applied mechanically, with a uniform layer of 3-4 mm, after which the screed is leveled and overwritten.
  • The coating is extremely durable, resistant to mechanical stress and moisture, with a silky texture to the touch. The degree of roughness depends on the size of the filler in the solution. Manufacturers of decorative plasters could not ignore the option with such excellent performance characteristics, and took it into service, offering the consumer compositions called "microcement".

  • Cement plasters, as such, are rarely used in interiors - mostly gypsum plasters are used. But with the help of microcement plaster, the design of walls and ceilings “under concrete” that is so popular and fashionable today is carried out. Note that this texture is an integral part of such architectural trends as high-tech, industrial style, loft.

Factory plasters of the "microcement" type are usually sold in a kit, which separately contains a colloidal mixture of cement and sand, a binder liquid polymer, water-repellent vapor-permeable impregnation and pigment. Although, the shades of gray cement in themselves, without any colors, are great for imitating the surface of concrete.

Silicone (siloxane) plaster. Silicone resins act as an astringent in it. Combines almost all the advantages of the above types. It is vapor-permeable, hydrophobic, resistant to aggressive environments and ultraviolet radiation. A wide range of colors of this material is produced. Due to its good plasticity, such plaster is used to create relief patterns.

The only negative factor is the relative high cost of this coating. Therefore, it is worth using it when the facade of the house is exposed to significant loads, in areas of high climatic humidity and negative technogenic factors.

All these types of plasters, in turn, are divided into two subspecies: closed with water and solvents. The former are most often used indoors, the latter - outside buildings. But, neither one nor the other, after hardening, are not afraid of water.

You can do decorative wall plastering with your own hands almost everywhere - from the facade of the house to the partition in the kitchen.

Note! Many of these coatings are water-resistant and can therefore be used in bathtubs and indoor pools.

For outdoor decorative materials, coarse structural materials on a lime binder are usually used. Thanks to special modifiers, the plaster does not deteriorate when interacting with water, so even heavy rains are not afraid of the facade.

Sometimes silicone materials are also used for plastering walls outside buildings - they create relief images. The rarity of their use is explained by the fact that, firstly, it is very difficult to independently perform such work, and secondly, it consumes a large number of plaster, and hence the cost of coating increases.

For interior work, all four types of coatings can be used. Important nuances: the more textured, that is, the thicker the material, the greater its consumption will be. But, on the other hand, when applying it, there is no need to carefully prepare the surface - it itself masks irregularities and defects.

Thinner types of plaster need better preparation bases, but are spent more slowly.

Application and coloring

Artistic plaster is applied in many ways: with conventional and embossed rollers, spatulas, brushes, foam rubber sponges of various shapes, home-made fixtures and even hands.

Applying decorative plaster by hand

Different ways of applying textured plaster can achieve completely opposite effects. This statement is especially true in relation to acrylic plaster. Often it is applied in several layers, with different colors and often different methods.

Therefore, before you make decorative plaster in your home yourself, think very carefully.

For its manufacture, it is not enough to have skills in construction. You have to be, to some extent, an artist. Moreover, each of the specialists in work with decorative plaster takes a training course at the manufacturer or at the official dealer of each type of decorative plaster.

Only in this way the master, knowing the material thoroughly, can make ordinary walls a real work of art.

But, there is an exception - structural views artistic plasters. You, even with very modest knowledge in this area, can apply them yourself with an ordinary spatula. One of the main advantages of such coatings is that they are almost impossible to spoil.

Any decorative plaster is applied in several layers. The first one is primer. Next comes the work with the layers of the coating itself. Depending on the idea, there can be from only one to 15 (!). Then, as necessary, special azure is used to create visual effects.

One of them is the recently fashionable craquelure - the effect of aged, cracked walls. To create it, a special varnish is applied over the coating, which tears the top layer of plaster. If the lower layer has a different shade, it will be visible through the cracks.

Important! You should know that Venetian plaster without fail covered after hardening with a special protective wax.

Almost all types of decorative plasters are sold in white. The store will offer you to choose a color from 50 to 5000 shades, which will depend on the manufacturer. After you decide on this, will test paints be made - on plywood, with a volume of 0.5m? roll out the plaster with the application method you have chosen and with the selected color.

This will give you an opportunity to see how the homemade decorative plaster will look on the walls. If you do not like the appearance of the coating, then you can choose a different shade or color.

If you decide to tint the plaster yourself, add a little bit of pigment and be sure to make control colors on cardboard or plywood. Do not forget to wait until the sample is completely dry, because the color may vary at different stages of drying.

How to make decorative plaster yourself

It is not difficult to make walls from decorative plaster yourself. To begin with, we make a plaster mixture: we take water, dry and mix with a mixer until the consistency of thick sour cream and after the mixture becomes homogeneous, add PVA there and mix. At the end, our plaster mixture should become homogeneous and thick.

To prepare decorative plaster needed: 200g. PVA, 2 liters of water and 6 kg of gypsum-based mixture.

First you need to apply the main layer, for this we take wide spatula and putty the surface of the wall. When the main layer dries, you can proceed to the most important thing - decorating. There are many ways to create a textured wall surface.

You can apply chaotic strokes over the entire surface with a spatula, you can use spatulas of different sizes, the wall also looks very interesting if you take an ordinary broom and blot the surface in different directions with a sponge. There are a lot of ways and, after experimenting a little, you will choose the most suitable for yourself.

DIY decorative plaster

Decorative plaster is a method of interior decoration, with the help of which it is possible not only to diversify the color scheme in the room, but also to recreate various types of decor. At the same time, decorative plaster has been used quite often lately. As a result, various types and subspecies of this building material constantly appear.

Structural plaster

Usually there are several types of decorative plaster:
