  1. From the rearrangement of furniture everything changes;
  2. Changing the color palette;
  3. Light design;
  4. wall decor;
  5. junk workers;
  6. How can you cheaply update the interior with textiles.

  • tabletop;
  • facades;
  • window design;
  • Upholstered and cabinet furniture;
  • Lighting;
  • Dish decor.

Rearranging furniture changes everything

The option is good because you do not need to buy anything, dismantle, paint over. It is enough to arrange the furniture in a different way.

Introducing asymmetry is a good way to refresh the familiar environment: move the bed to the wall, turn the sofa 90 degrees, swap the armchair and chest of drawers.

When the interior seems unnerving, arrange paired objects in a mirror image - this will balance the composition.

Place upholstered furniture not next to the walls, but diagonally or across the living room.

If the area of the apartment is proud of the squares, select two places for relaxation: for communicating with guests and for secluded tea drinking and reading.

Rearranging cabinets or cabinets will also change the space and volume of the room.

Before implementing ideas, it is best to practice on a paper plan using scaled furniture sizes.

Changing the color palette

Another color scheme is a method for resolving the issue of how to update the interior of a room. It will not be possible to remake the color scheme beyond recognition (it will be a full-fledged repair), but introducing fresh shades into the design is doable.

Let's add the setting:

  • paint one of the walls or part of it with a contrasting shade;
  • support the chosen color with one or two decor items in the same range;
  • we will change the upholstery on the sofa and armchairs or we will sew the covers ourselves;
  • change curtains;
  • we buy furniture with bright accents - a blue wardrobe, a red coffee table, purple floor vase. Let the accent be single, otherwise extra variegation will appear in the design.

An easy way to update the interior in an apartment is to paint old wallpaper with a new color. If you remove the paper covering on parts of the walls and paint the surface light green, blue or pink, you get an interesting combination of textures.

Light design

Lighting design is a full-fledged participant in the design. Along with color and volume. We change the lamps according to the design, spectrum and nature of the glow (directional, diffused).

If the decoration of the room is of high quality, it is appropriate bright lighting. But where there are shortcomings, it is better to install a subdued light. Spot lighting (for example, a picture one) will help to beautifully highlight individual pieces of furniture.

Lamps placed under the furniture will visually lift it above the floor and make it easier.

Inexpensive LED strips look harmoniously under shelves, cabinets, mirrors, cornices built into niches.

Light design - good decision tasks of how to update the interior of a room without overhaul.

wall decor

Decorating the walls will help refresh the design of the apartment.

Decorate plain surfaces with special interior stickers. Images of birds, cats, tree branches, butterflies, lampposts are suitable for any style of interior: glue along the stairs, around the doorway, over the back of the sofa, head of the bed.

If you do not want to use ready-made stickers, paint the wall yourself using a stencil. An abstract ornament or a recognizable silhouette will make the wall expressive.

For those who are interested in how to inexpensively update the interior, fit way associated with loft style techniques. Rough surfaces are in fashion, which means that you will have to free the walls from coatings and get to brick or concrete. The textures that have opened to the eye are left without decor or painted with colored acrylic paints.

We use moldings - from wood, ceramics, metal, to transform walls, ceilings and furniture. A popular molding material is polyurethane. It is easy to work with, easy to process and can be dyed in any tone.

With the help of moldings, it will be possible to breathe new life into the design of the fireplace portal, window, arched doorways. The compositions created on the walls and ceiling will emphasize the zoning and even mask small defects in the finish.

Fresh paintings, posters, photos will tell you how to update old interior. Large reproductions look best when hung alone. Small ones should be collected in a composition: the main thing is that the paintings are made in the same style and in the same frames.

An attractive frame can be made with your own hands from bamboo stems, sea shells, river pebbles. In the design of the bedroom, paintings can be replaced with a fragment of beautiful wallpaper or fabric - to finish the section of the wall indicated by moldings.

Junkmen

You can get a new interior without repair by including one antique item in the decor: a chest of drawers on lion's paws, a rocking chair, a mirror in a carved gilded frame.

A full restoration is not needed: just update with paint individual elements. For wood, use white - it will rejuvenate the texture and make the furniture fashionable. On an antique wardrobe, replace the handles with modern ones.

Install shelves around the apartment and place art albums, photographs, antique volumes in luxurious bindings on them. Stacked books turn into a coffee table support.

How to update the interior of the kitchen

The kitchen takes a lot of time. Paying attention individual details, we do the usual and already rather boring kitchen design interesting again.

table top

By installing a new countertop, the situation is transformed. And you don't need to change anything else. With a palette, the work surface can contrast favorably with kitchen fronts or maintain them in a similar shade. If you want to leave the old countertop, veneer it with ceramic mosaics.

facades

Replacing the interior in the kitchen at no cost will allow updating the front cabinets:

  • we change deaf facades to glazed ones, putting dishes on display;
  • decorate the doors with vinyl stickers;
  • we remove part of the facades to get open shelves that are popular today;
  • paint the doors in a different color;
  • we install new, original ones instead of old handles.

window design

New curtains are also a method to change kitchen interior. But it’s not easy to hang another instead of one fabric, but to choose a different type of window decor: Roman blinds, blinds, roller blinds (roller blinds).

You can make the room private by painting the glass with stained glass paints. A serious step is to install a mirrored or tinted double-glazed window on a window next to the work area.

If you put pots with parsley, dill and onions planted in them on the windowsill, it will smell nice in the kitchen, and seasonings will be at hand.

Upholstered and cabinet furniture

Replacing the upholstery of chairs and sofas will bring new color accents. Try to choose a material with a pattern or shade close to the curtains, then the design style will be preserved. Because kitchen furniture a simple form - we change the drapery ourselves, making a pattern according to the old upholstery.

Wooden stools and chairs are easy to repaint. But if you don't want to get dirty with paint, sew or tie decorative pillows and covers. We decorate the dining table using the decoupage technique, such an application looks good in the Provence style.

Lighting

If the question arose of how to update the interior without spending money in the kitchen, change the lighting. Instead of one chandelier, install local lighting for each zone (sink, cutting table, dining group, bar counter).

It is convenient to highlight the cooking place with the help of LEDs built into the lower part of the wall cabinets.

The dining table area will be highlighted by low-hanging lamps. For kitchen island(if it is longer than 1.5 meters), bring their own overhead lighting. Hoods and nozzles for water taps are also equipped with lighting.

Dish decor

Do not hide plates and cups in blank cabinets, it is better to turn them into a decorative collection. Hang painted dishes on the wall, place porcelain tea sets on shelves and behind transparent facades. Even a couple of simple colored saucers will freshen up the atmosphere.

Don't forget the refrigerator. It is not necessary to turn its door into a chaotic collection of magnets. Better decorate a clean white or chrome surface with appropriately themed vinyl decals. For example, the image of a cat that is eager to eat.

How can you cheaply update the interior with textiles

A quick and budget option to change the design of a room is textile design.

wall panel

From patches (chintz, organza, satin, jacquard), make a patchwork panel and hang it on the wall. Such remains can be found in any apartment.

Partition curtain

To update the design in the apartment at no cost, organize the space differently. Zone the room with a thick curtain. In studio apartments, the living room is separated from the bedroom and workplace in this way. In housing for one person, the curtain plays the role of an interior door (where more people live, better soundproofing is needed). A curtain covers a niche, racks with clothes and shoes.

A mixture of textures

A bold step would be decoration with different textured fabrics: in the classics, combine satin stitch embroidery and the characteristic capitonné stitch, in the loft - rough stitching and underlined scuffs, in shabby chic - delicate lace and openwork knitting.

A simple example: spread pillows on the sofa: one with sequins, another with appliqué, the third with a pillowcase made of silk or faux fluffy fur.

Knitted details

Knitted details will not only decorate the updated interior, but also make the apartment more comfortable. Include an openwork tablecloth, a coarse knit blanket, and pillows in the decor of the room. The topic will also include knitted cases for mugs, glass jars and vases. Let the color scheme of accessories be limited to a few shades, the main emphasis is on loop patterns.

Favorite plaid

A plaid as a decor will help to revive the apartment interior without additional costs. Throw it over the back of an armchair in the living room, on the bed or chair next to the dressing table. If the blanket is thin, it will fit as a tablecloth.

Updated bedroom

Changing the look of a bedroom is easy with the help of bed headboard decor. Finish the back with foam rubber and fabric or leather, attaching the materials with a furniture stapler - an illusion of new furniture will appear. If the headboard is forged or slatted, then prepare a removable panel with a beautiful and upholstered and fix over the existing one. The same technique is suitable for finishing the wall behind the bed. Simple drapery will also change the overall impression of the interior.

Canopy

If the design of the bed does not provide for pillars, the canopy is fixed using special racks. In summer, use light, thin, translucent fabrics for decoration, in winter - denser ones, they will reliably protect against drafts.

Shade

This element is involved in creating the interior, regardless of whether the lamp is on or not. By changing the lampshade, you will change not only the appearance of the lamp, but also the strength, saturation of lighting, the combination of shadows and light.

Solving the problem of how to update the interior without repair, choose for yourself the most suitable option. Whether you rearrange chairs and sofas, repaint wallpaper, replace curtains and lamps, knit pillowcases out of wool, you can find a way to get fresh design with a minimal budget.

What to do if a large-scale renovation is not included in the immediate plans, but you really want to change the outdated interior? Thanks to several budget solutions of the "grandmother's" apartment will turn into a cozy and original home.

1. Alignment with walls

In many respects, it is the walls with partially peeling plaster and faded wallpaper that give Soviet interiors an outdated and sloppy look. Therefore, without updating the wall space is indispensable. Universal way- paint the walls white or wallpaper them. If it goes beyond the budget or seems too complicated, then use the fashionable trick that is characteristic of the loft style - walls without decoration, for example, concrete or brick. This style allows the use old furniture, therefore, equipping a Soviet apartment in accordance with its characteristics will not be special work. Hang abstract paintings or graffiti on bare or white-painted walls.

Will transform appearance the rooms are numerous open shelves, on which there are books in beautiful bindings, original gizmos. It is not necessary to hang them on the walls in a row. Randomly placed shelves look more interesting.

2. Make room for the new

The problem with most old apartments is total clutter. Without remorse, get rid of all items that you do not use for more than six months. Throw away things that do not bring you pleasure to contemplate - we are talking about decor. Leave only the essentials, and it will become much easier to breathe in an old apartment! The less random small items- all the better. If you want to transform a rented apartment where small things cannot be thrown away, then pack them in boxes and hide them in the sofa, on the mezzanine or under the bed. The impression of clutter is also created by protruding wires. Hide them in special boxes, fasten them under countertops… original solution- wrap the wires with twine or tape, but in this case, you must first make sure that the electrical communications are working.

3. Remember and realize that furniture is not nailed to the floor.

Huge wardrobes and sofas, on which the eye stops every now and then, make a depressing impression. Since the change of furniture does not fit into our budget, it remains only to rearrange it correctly. Furniture should not block the sun's rays penetrating the apartment from the street. Also try to place it in such a way that it does not fall into the field of view from the positions where the maximum time is spent. For example, in the living room you should not place a closet next to the TV, as massive furniture will always be noticeable to the person watching it. It is not necessary to arrange furniture along the walls. If the area of the apartment allows, try using it for zoning. For example, a sofa in the central part of the room will allow you to divide the room into several functional areas. You can instantly refresh the interior with the help of a screen or shelving on wheels. At the first sign of fatigue from the interior, just move them, and the feeling of novelty is guaranteed.

4. Not a step without textiles

Talking about what cozy apartment it is impossible to imagine without textiles, we do not mean multilayer curtains with lambrequins. You will have to get rid of them. But light translucent curtains or Roman blinds will effectively refresh the interior. Textile covers and bedspreads will help to hide worn furniture upholstery, and bright printed pillows will radically change the perception old apartment. But if the interior is overloaded with trifles and various details, then it is better to refuse catchy textiles. On the contrary, opt for solid colors that will help balance the environment and make it more harmonious.

5. More light and shine

After freeing the windows from multi-layer curtains, it's time to move on to increasing the degree of artificial lighting. In most Soviet apartments, you can find only one chandelier hanging in the center of the room. As a result, the room evening time looks gloomy, and people do not have enough light. To solve the problem of insufficient lighting will help desktop and floor lamps, candles. The atmosphere will immediately become more comfortable! Also pay attention to the various interior details with a glossy sheen - in gold, silver, bronze ... They are in perfect harmony with the dark wooden furniture, which abound in apartments, and ennoble the situation. Shiny can be photo frames, furniture fittings, lamps, lamps…

6. New life for old furniture

There are a lot of ideas for updating old furniture. Of the simplest - replacing the old fittings with a new one. A slightly more labor-intensive way will be sanding furniture from a layer of old varnish and painting. You can decorate the surface of the updated furniture using decoupage or stencil drawing.

7. "Live" interior is always relevant

To make the interior look more dynamic, do not forget to decorate it with fresh flowers. Remember to take good care of your plants. Semi-dry indoor flowers with yellowish leaves will produce the exact opposite effect. Choose large plants with leaves rich color.

8. Bright details create the effect of novelty and surprise

The problem of interiors created in Soviet period is their monotony. As a result, the apartment looks boring and predictable. Therefore, we recommend to enliven the situation by using a few bright details. Even one item of a non-standard color can radically transform the Soviet interior. The more contrast the environment is, the less it will be perceived as outdated and unfashionable.

9. Say yes to non-trivial combinations

It is not necessary to turn the Soviet interior into a classic one. Firstly, the result is unlikely to be successful, and secondly, there are more interesting options. For example, eclecticism. This style allows a combination of things in the interior that at first glance seem incongruous. So, an eclectic interior allows for a high-tech lamp surrounded by old furniture. But be careful - in order to create high-quality eclecticism in an environment, you must have excellent taste.

Move away from the usual cliches and try to place upholstered furniture across the room or diagonally, rather than along the walls. If the living room is large, then you can place the recreation area in the center or organize several separate zones, for example, for receiving guests and cozy corner with a reading chair. Try moving cabinets and cabinets, perhaps they will look much more spectacular in a different location.

  • buy one bright piece of furniture;
  • paint one wall or part of it in a contrasting shade and add several decor items of the same shade;
  • change the color of the curtains;
  • buy or create yourself several noticeable decor elements;
  • change upholstery upholstered furniture or sew covers.

Reception 3. Complication of texture combinations

Actively use textiles to complicate the textured interior ensemble. It may be enough to replace just a part sofa cushions on satin or, on the contrary, fluffy ones, so that your relaxation corner will sparkle with new colors. Get a new interesting carpet, counterpane for a bed or an unusual fabric for curtains.

Tactic 4: Display Collections

Almost every family has interesting collections that can become a unique design accent. For an effective redesign, try to group similar items in a small space and emphasize their special value. If there are few items, then use special frames or shelves.

Technique 5: Natural Decor

In any interior style, natural decorative elements: live houseplants and dry branches, or terrarium, herbarium or stones. Bring a piece of nature into the house, and the room will become more comfortable. Many products can be created independently by looking for a branch of an interesting shape on a walk or by collecting autumn leaves. It is acceptable to use artificial plants High Quality, especially in dark room where there is not enough light for living flowers.

Empty or featureless walls can be made much more attractive with paintings, photographs, posters, or even simple herbariums. Large paintings are best used alone, while smaller ones look spectacular in a thoughtful composition. A win-win technique is the use of paintings of the same style in the same frame or on a spectacular decorated area walls. It can be just a contrasting section of the wall or decorative fence like one of the photos below.

If you use a mirror, then consider its location so that the reflection represents the most advantageous part of the room. Take care of interesting frames for mirrors and pictures if they are not very expressive. Original frames can be created independently from bamboo, thin branches, shells, small pebbles. If you do not find suitable paintings, then you can use expressive wallpapers or patterned textiles, especially in nurseries and bedrooms.

Technique 7: Stickers and painting

Plain walls can be easily decorated with special stickers that are appropriate in any room. It can be single stickers different sizes or large enough art panels. Another technique is painting on a stencil, bought or made on your own. Ordinary silhouettes or an abstract ornament will give the interior more expressiveness.

Tactic 8: New Window Design

Critically evaluate your curtains and cornices, perhaps they are outdated or too inexpressive. Now there are a huge number of accessories and fabrics that can transform the look of the window. Sometimes it is enough to add an unusual pelmet or tie to create a spectacular style. You can think about a radical redesign, replacing traditional draperies with cassette blinds, blinds, Japanese or Roman blinds.

Technique 9: Stylish Lights

Lighting design is an important component modern home. Stylish lamps will make the interior much more expressive. Now it is customary to use a lot of lamps different type: classic chandeliers and spotlights, sconces and floor lamps to illuminate individual areas, built-in lighting for shelves and ceilings, lighting LED strips and spotlights. There is a huge range of not only the shape, materials and size of lamps, but also the light spectrum of lamps or the nature of the glow (diffuse, directional, radiant). Choose models that will emphasize the style of your rooms.

Technique 10: Almighty Molding

Wooden, metal, ceramic or polyurethane moldings can easily transform walls, ceilings or furniture. Particularly attractive to self-decoration polyurethane products that are easy to process and can be dyed in any color. Without changing anything, you can noticeably improve the design of windows, arched openings, old furniture, and a fireplace portal. The molding on the walls and ceiling, in addition, will easily emphasize the features of the zoning of rooms, correct the visual perception, and hide the imperfections of the finish. Suitable products can be used as frames or even small shelves.

Tactic 11: Bedroom Redesign

Bed - main subject furniture, so changing its design will radically change the perception of the interior. The easiest way to create the illusion of new furniture is to upholster the headboard with fabric or leather. The same technique can be used for the section of wall behind the bed. A variety of canopies or simple drapery behind the headboard will also noticeably change general style rooms.

Spending a little time on an interior redesign can visibly change and improve the style of the rooms, postponing the need for another cosmetic repairs premises, creating more favorable conditions for recreation and at the same time increasing the status and exclusivity of interior solutions.

The owners of rented apartments are divided into two categories. The former prefer to repair housing with high quality, equip it necessary equipment. They do not let couples with small children, cats and smokers on the doorstep, set the price above the market, but it is pleasant to live in such rented apartments.

The owners of the second type rent out dead apartments: they inherited from their grandmothers, with repairs and furniture from the time of the Moscow Olympics. And the offer of tenants to make repairs on account of the rent is answered with a categorical refusal. It turns out that such an apartment can be made pleasant for life, even if nothing in it can be repainted, re-pasted and thrown away.

hide things

The feeling of clutter is created primarily by the abundance of small items. We pack the master's inheritance in boxes and try to find a place for them on the mezzanine, under the bed, place them in a niche between the ceiling and the upper cabinets of the kitchen set.

Couldn't hide everything? We move the sofa half a meter away from the wall, install stacks of boxes flush with the backrest along the entire length of the seat, cover the resulting structure with a wide board from the nearest construction market or a finished shelf from IKEA - we get a functional console. From the boxes in the same way, you can organize the continuation of a computer desk or a stand-column for a giant flower pot. So that the boxes do not irritate with their appearance, they can be pasted over with a mirror film - let them dissolve in space.

Make a rearrangement

Start with the wardrobe and the wall: they should be against the wall where the interior door. The fact is that voluminous objects make the space visually heavy, therefore it is better if they are not visible from the entrance.

Refine the furniture

Almost any closet can be ennobled with beautiful fittings, visit the nearest Zara Home or one of the interior decor stores. A simple replacement of handles can sometimes save even a hopeless kitchen set. Just in case, do not throw away the old ones: if the owner does not like the update, when parting with the apartment, return the furniture to its original state.

Do not spare the money - replace the shelves of the lower kitchen cabinets with drawers. You will be surprised: much more items are placed in the box, they can be grasped at a glance and it is easier and more convenient to use them. The dimensions of the headsets, especially in old apartments, have a standard width of 40-60 centimeters; filling for them is sold in any modern kitchen salon.

Ugly kitchen table covered with an attractive tablecloth. shabby computer desk can be modified with plexiglass: press it with something that will please your eye - beautiful wallpaper, wrapping paper or even a collection of coasters from McDonald's trays.

A beautiful blanket and decorative pillows, removable seats on chairs will help hide the ugly upholstery of upholstered furniture. And the new bright bedding doesn't even need a coverlet.

Decorate the window

Naturally, you can and should change the curtains. It is not necessary to buy some special designer textiles, it is enough just to replace the old Soviet tulle with modern curtains. Be sure to put a few pots of lush greenery on the windowsill. On sale are a lot of plants that are unpretentious in their care: for especially forgetful flower growers and those who often go on business trips.

change the light

Most often, apartments in the old fund have a single chandelier in the center of the room. Living with such lighting is uncomfortable: there is either little or a lot of it, no matter what bulbs you screw in. Replace the push button switch with a rotary rheostat: you can control the brightness of the lamp.
Try to avoid overhead light in the evenings: it mercilessly emphasizes all the shortcomings of the apartment. The lower floor light, on the contrary, will help create an intimate atmosphere. The more local lamps (floor lamps, table lamps), the better - just forget about the existence of a common light.

Arrange a bathroom

Did you know that shower heads are sold as a separate item? To replace them, you don’t even need to call a plumber: they unscrewed the old one along with the hose - screwed on the new one. It would seem a trifle, but how nice it is to finally wash in the shower with normal pressure.

Shabby walls and peeling paint can be a distraction. For example, a mirror in an intricate frame, a curtain with an original print, bright rugs, high-quality towels, finally. Left to put in the bathroom living plant. Bamboo shoots, for example, do not need natural light, and they tolerate huge humidity very well.

Do not arrange furniture along the walls: try to highlight zones. For example, a sofa in the living room can be deployed across the room or highlight the dining room by moving dinner table from the wall.
Walls with old wallpaper can always be masked with posters or large-format paintings. In general, you can hang anything on the walls: place a collection of hats mixed with mirrors in the corridor, and travel photos, old records and engravings in the living room. The denser the hanging, the less the walls are visible.

And the most important advice: do not treat a rented apartment as temporary housing. Decorate your house for the holidays, buy beautiful accessories, bring things from your travels - in a word, do everything that you would do in your own apartment.

Masha Yashina

interior designer

I myself have had to rent housing more than once, and I am familiar with the difficulties of settling in such an apartment firsthand. So, let's imagine that you were able to wash and clean everything that was possible as much as possible, got rid of what the owners agreed to part with, made a rational rearrangement. I advise you now to go to the store and buy a bed with a normal mattress. Yes, moving a bed from apartment to apartment is not so easy. But still, it’s more pleasant to sleep on something really your own, and most importantly, solid and high-quality.

Peeling walls and worn wallpapers are best hung as much as possible. If the owners do not allow drilling into the walls, purchase a gallery mounting system. Pictures, posters, fabric panels with your favorite pattern - it's up to you what to hang. Terrifying drill holes will be covered with a thin metal profile right under the ceiling. In the end, it will be easier to close the holes when leaving, the flaws are not so visible at a height.
In general, textiles are your savior. Start with the windows, change the curtains. Once, instead of a sprawling organza, I hung a thick canvas on the windows, which artists stretch on a stretcher. Thanks to its structure, it created architectural folds, and the windows began to play in such a frame.

The impression of the kitchen can be changed by lowering the lamp lower above the table. Such a light source will show only the most beautiful and comfortable in the room - a table with a beautiful tablecloth. Even if there is only one lamp here and hangs in the center of the ceiling, this is easy to fix: change the native suspension to a long wire and fix it in right place on the ceiling so that the lamp itself is exactly in the center of the dining area.

Do the owners forbid re-pasting the wallpaper? The most effective solution in such cases is to buy a lot of linen or cotton and hang the walls with it. Firstly, you will hide everything that is unpleasant to your eye, secondly, it is easy to hang personal decor and photographs on textiles, and thirdly, it will radically change the atmosphere of the room. You can fasten the fabric either on pins or by gently pinning it to the top plinth. Don't forget to vacuum as needed.

Of the acquisitions for a rented apartment that you can take with you, I would recommend a screen. Behind it you can hide what you don’t want to look at, but you can’t throw it away. And also on it you can broadcast clothes that you don’t want to put away in the wardrobe yet or plan to wear tomorrow. The second item is a chest - an atmospheric object in which a lot of things can be hidden.
An imperceptible but strong part of our perception of space is aromas. Remember the feeling after fresh wet cleaning, when not only the eye rejoices at the absence of dust, but also the nose feels a pleasant, light smell of cleaning agent. With us, it is automatically associated with cleanliness. It is the same with the interior of the apartment: by choosing a fragrance that is pleasant to you personally, you can make your temporary place of stay much more dear.

No - old photographs and paintings, yes - personal decor! I have a 15 cm copper Buddha head brought from Thailand. She helps me make every new place of residence my soul. This thing is a symbol. I highly recommend having at least one such object. Good luck with your move and set up. Remember that home is not a place, but a feeling.
