Aging the oak board. How to age a tree? General recommendations and best practices

Do-it-yourself antique wood processing is a great way to give antique, ancient and antique wood decor elements. expensive look. There are few ways to make a tree older, but all of them are applicable at home with knowledge of the basics of woodworking. Below we will talk about the ways of processing semi-antique wood with our own hands, what types of trees they are applicable to, and we will directly analyze the process of creating an old tree.

How to age wood

Quite popular in our time are things from the distant past. This has not bypassed the sphere of design. The design of the house, in which there are notes from the past in the form of an old wooden furniture, floor beams, various vintage wooden elements decor, give it chic, high cost. You might even think that the owners inherited from their great-grandfathers luxury house, which is not one century old.

In fact, everything is much simpler. The fact is that with the fashion for everything old, the concept of imitation of the old has come. It happened exactly the same with a tree, because in any construction or furniture store you can find decorative elements made in the old style. Of course, the prices for such items are rather high, so few can afford them.

But the masters of working with wood know the secrets of such reincarnation of wood. Having become acquainted with them, you can, without much effort and with significant savings acquire antique-looking furniture and other items.

Antique wood processing is done using 3 common methods, namely:

  • brushing;
  • burning;
  • alkali.

At home, preference is given to exactly 1 option.

The first step is to choose the wood that we will process. If you want to artificially age boards or timber for further creation of various objects and furniture from them, then you can choose materials with various defects (chips, small cracks, potholes, knots). After proper processing, such defects will only improve the result. If ready-made furniture is chosen for aging, then you need to use copies that have the appearance, as if they were made by hand in past centuries. Before processing, the furniture must be completely disassembled so that it is possible to get to hard-to-reach places.

You also need to prepare necessary materials, such as the:

  • hard metal brush;
  • softer metal brush;
  • brushes for painting;
  • acrylic paint, varnish, wax or stain;
  • sandpaper.

Before working with the prepared material, it does not interfere with a little practice on unnecessary, small pieces of wood.

Some operations may be harmful to health (when firing or using chemicals), so they are best carried out on fresh air and in compliance with safety regulations.

Piece aging of wood

Let's start with the most practiced method - brushing. The whole process consists in the fact that the processed wood is carried out with a rigid metal brush, as a result of which the soft tissues wood and its surface becomes embossed.

First of all, you need to take an ax and strike the surface of the material with its blunt side. The blows are delivered randomly and with different force. Then the upper ball of soft fibers is removed with a hard metal brush. The brush should be brushed along the fibers until the outlines of natural temporary damage appear on the surface. Then the skin is taken and the wood is polished and further processing soft brush to remove fine fibers.

After the above steps, the material should be painted with stain or dark acrylic paint. After complete drying, with the help of a skin, without much effort, remove the paint from the upper, protruding ridges, while the paint should remain in potholes and cracks.

Finally, the material is covered with a clear varnish and allowed to dry.

The following methods do not require a rigid mechanical approach, but are accompanied by a number of rather dangerous operations. They cannot be carried out indoors.

Next up is firing. Here, with a blowtorch or burner, the wood is burned to a depth of about 3 mm. Moreover, the deeper the firing, the more noticeable will be the effect of aging. After firing the top layer, a metal brush is taken and the burnt parts are scraped off until the desired effect is obtained. Painting with this method may not be applied. The material is then sanded and varnished.

The method using alkali consists in wetting the surface of the wood with chemicals containing alkali (these can be washing liquids cookers and other cleaning solutions). Such a substance eats away the soft fibers of the wood and paints it in grey colour. After the wood is covered with a layer of a weak solution of vinegar or citric acid(200 ml of water per 1 tsp). After drying, the product should be brushed and, if necessary, painted.

The interior and exterior of our home almost always has elements of wood in the decoration, and sometimes it even consists entirely of it, which naturally causes a desire for some kind of design modernization, and do-it-yourself wood aging will be an effective help in this.

Moreover, the retro style is now at a very high price, although the essence of the issue is not so much in fashion as in appearance, which is very well perceived by human vision, therefore, it is quite appropriate in the decoration of a residential building. Together we will consider several ways to get retro wood, and also watch the video in this article.

Woodwork

Note. The desire to add zest to wooden product often pushes the owners to paint it in one color or another. But one of the best ways is to artificially age it.

What are the ways

  • By and large, the effect of aging wood or brushing is to remove soft fibers and most often this is done with a brush (the term itself comes from English word"brush", which translates into Russian as "brush"). This allows you to emphasize the structure - hard fibers stand out in the literal sense of the word in the form of a protruding relief above the main plane. However, brushing is not the only way to give a surface an aged look.
  • In addition, patination is also used, which comes from the Italian word "patina" and is translated into Russian as "film" or "plaque" and basically this term is applied to copper and its alloys. Nevertheless, they learned how to create such a plaque artificially on wood products, which, after processing, gives them an impressive appearance of a product from the distant past.
  • In addition, wax and stain are used to visually increase age, which forms scuffs and a clear highlight of the texture - you can always buy oil-wax or varnish with stain in stores (you can buy stain separately, as a powder). But since it is possible to artificially age a tree with your own hands only by brushing and patinating, wax and stain are already used as auxiliary elements, although they are very effective.

brushing

When using this method, our goal is to highlight the structure in relief, that is, the growth rings of a plant, which can have the most bizarre shape, although in any case they represent a closed cycle.

The most effective way is to remove soft fibers from the cut. The result is a convex texture from harder tissues, which in vivo is formed only after years, a metal brush (steel or brass) and a nylon brush for grinding are used to forcefully remove soft fibers.

If you need to artificially age a tree and it is a door, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers or a cabinet, that is, any piece of furniture, then it can be processed directly at the place of its deployment, but if it is a board, then it should be clamped with clamps on a workbench.

Put a metal brush on a drill or grinder and start to drive it along (not across!) The fibers, thereby removing upper layer soft tissues and making the surface embossed. The degree of such processing is arbitrary, but the depth in any case should be felt when touched under the fingers.

After working with a metal brush, peculiar thorns will stick out on the surface, that is, during processing, the fibers are torn and, as it were, stand on end, and this does not disappear even after applying paints and varnishes. Therefore, the surface of the workpiece needs to be polished and this can be done with an abrasive nylon brush worn on the same drill or grinder.

On the top photo you can see the difference - it shows the board before and after processing - even without paintwork in the image on the right, the texture of tree rings is very clearly visible.

Note. For, since you can make old wooden furniture with your own hands only if it is made of oak, Siberian larch, pine or spruce, that is, those species where the structure is clearly visible. But in the case of birch, maple or beech, such manipulation no longer makes sense due to the lack of a clear manifestation of growth rings.

Burning

You can also age the material by firing it, and for this you will need a gas burner (its price is a little over 300 rubles) and a replaceable gas canister, which you can change as needed (depending on the amount of work).

Do not forget to wear work gloves or gloves when firing, as during heating you can automatically release the device from your hands (burn reaction). It is not worth burning the material very strongly - a bright manifestation of the texture is enough, although this is not yet the final operation.

As a result, we get a smooth board, though only in two colors - black (burnt) and golden (burnt), but to complete the firing it needs to be sanded. Sandpaper is not suitable here, as it will remove all the carbon deposits, and as a result you will again get a light board.

Therefore, for this purpose, it is best to use a dishwashing sponge, where on one side there is an abrasive pad of about 320 gauge - go through the surface with it, and it will be ready for processing with paints and varnishes.

Use of wood stain

A good aging effect is obtained when stain is applied, only here a special method of its application is needed, which should not be uniform. It all starts with a complete coating of the product with a powder dissolved in water (the saturation of the color depends on the saturation of the solution) - it is best to apply the liquid with a sponge and a sponge for washing dishes is excellent for this.

After that, without waiting for drying, take a clean sponge, soak it in water and partially wipe the stain from certain places, as a rule, these are the central parts of the boards and panels, and all corners, edges and cracks should remain dark (in hard-to-reach places use a brush to apply the composition).

After drying, the workpiece is again covered with stain, only on the basis of white spirit or varnish - this layer will be uniform and you need to wait for it to dry completely. To fix the color, you need to fill the pores and this is done using a shellac primer with a brush or the same sponge. After such processing, the aging effect remains for a very long time.

Patination

But how to age a tree at home, if the furniture is made of maple or beech, that is, such species where the structure of growth rings is practically not visible upon superficial examination? To do this, you can create a layer of artificial patina on the surface, and this method is excellent for a pronounced structure, as you will see when you understand its essence.

First of all, you need to choose a paint, or rather, its color, with which you will cover everything - dark and golden tones are well suited for this, which will subsequently appear through scuffs on the treated surface. For example, it could be bronze, as in the top photo, where you can see a fragment of the door after finishing, but to achieve this effect, you need a light color paint.

So, cover the desired product with dark paint and wait until it is completely dry, then apply another, very thin layer of light paint, but it should not be white or too bright - otherwise the aging effect will be significantly reduced.

After the second layer has dried, take fine sandpaper (best of all - zero) and right places make abrasions to the full or partial manifestation of the old paint. If the texture of the tree is monochromatic, then you will simply get a difference in tones, and if the annual rings are pronounced, then the paint will appear along their outlines.

Conclusion

The list of do-it-yourself wood aging methods does not end with the methods that you read about in this article - there are many more. Most of them are combined, where the main part will be brushing, followed by the application of paints and varnishes.

Beautiful aged furniture can bring an atmosphere of sophistication and harmony to your home. Under natural conditions, the tree grows old under the influence of various natural factors– wind, rain, sunlight, etc.

But it is not at all necessary to wait a couple of decades for the purchased headset to acquire such a unique look. You can use special technologies for aging wood.

Benefits of aged wood

Aged furniture looks elegant and stylish in any interior.

Aged wood is a beautiful, durable and functional material from which various items furniture: tables, chairs, beds, chests of drawers, etc.

The benefits of aged wood are as follows:

  • The surface does not require special treatment, if desired, it is enough just to cover it with varnish.
  • The effect of aging allows you to give any piece of furniture an antique look.
  • Natural wood pattern looks unique and inimitable.
  • Aged wood furniture will look harmonious in any interior.
  • This material is environmentally friendly and anti-allergenic.
  • Aged wood is reliable and durable.
  • Finally, furniture made from this material will never go out of fashion.

What kind of wood is best to age?

Suitable for aging soft wood or material of medium hardness. It has a brighter texture. This requirement is met by spruce, larch and pine. The breeds presented are distinguished by the fact that they have soft fibers. In spring and summer, annual rings form on them most quickly, causing the fibers to become “loose”. Woods such as beech and maple are not suitable for aging, because their texture is weakly expressed and almost uniform.

Training

Before aging a tree, its surface must be prepared

Before you start aging wooden furniture with your own hands, you need to conduct a quality preparation of the surfaces that you plan to process. To do this, remove all defects and dirt. These may be traces of fat and other stains. If this is not done, obsolete pollution will appear after applying a tint coating to the tree. Also remove old paint or varnish and dismantle excess fittings that interfere with antique processing.

Ways

When preparatory stage the robots are done, start aging. First, decide on the technology that you would like to age the furniture with. There are the following options:

  • Coloring;
  • Craquelure;
  • Surface brushing;
  • Stain processing;
  • Wood processing with special chemical compounds(olding technology);
  • Application of gilding;
  • Achieving a lime effect (liming technology).

Let's look at each of these ways of aging a tree in more detail.

Coloring

Wood aged with staining technique

If you want your wooden furniture to look worn, you can use the staining technique. Choose a base tone that will show through the top layer of paint.

For the base, you can use any color, as long as it is more saturated than the auxiliary.

You can also use color mixed with white paint and a water base. For the second layer, it is better to use light shades. This combination of colors will create the effect of burnt paint. After the paint has dried, treat it sandpaper with high graininess. This will remove excess paint. Sanding is necessary until the effect of worn paint appears. The main layer will come through it. The final stage of processing is varnishing.

Craquelure

You can paint the tree with craquelure technique. Simply put, create the effect of cracks on wooden furniture. You will need a special craquelure varnish. After applying the base color to it, the varnish will crack. The color of the cracks depends on the selected base. To add originality, you can use several colors at once. Craquelure - good way quickly give your wooden furniture an antique look.

Surface brushing

Wood aged with brushing technique

Brushing technology is a simple method of aging wooden furniture using a wire brush, fine-grained sandpaper, a chisel and a drill. Before proceeding with the main process, you need to remove the top layer of wood. Brushing can be combined with surface painting. Use sandpaper and a brush to remove the top layer, and use a chisel and a drill to create furrows and wormholes. The brushing technique is most often used to age the floor and boards. After completing the main stage of work, cover the surface with oil, varnish or stain.

When decorating wooden furniture, it is important not to overdo it, because luxurious furniture can be turned into junk.

Good to know: Brushing is great for furniture made from hardwoods such as walnut, ash, oak and larch. This technique is contraindicated for maple, cherry, beech and teak.

Stain processing

Wood aged with wood stain

This technique is used in combination with others. Coating furniture with paintwork material will achieve the effect of staining. First you need to treat the surface, and then wash off part of the stain with a damp sponge. It is important to leave the edges, bends and cracks darker than the main part of the surface in order to emphasize the effect of aging.

If after the first time you were not able to achieve the desired result, just carefully sand the surface. Some areas can be repainted with a brush dipped in stain. To make the color more saturated, after completing the main stage of work, cover wood surface primer or desired color. At the very end, go over the surface with antique wax using a soft cloth.

Olding technology (treatment with special compounds)

Wood aged using the aging technique

Olding is a very interesting technique for aging wood. With its help, you can recreate the effects of fading, swamp moss, burnout, etc. Special chemical reagents will help to achieve amazing results. This technique is suitable only for hardwoods (oak, hornbeam, etc.).

This is interesting: If you perform olding soft wood, it will corny become unusable after treatment with strong chemicals.

The final step will be the coating of the surface with varnish. It will serve to protect the surface.

Gilding

To qualitatively age furniture and achieve an antique look, you can use gold platinum. Applying gilding is one of the simplest procedures that does not take much time. Just completely paint the furniture in the chosen color and wait for it to dry.

Helpful information: gold paint must be applied in a thin layer. Only then the furniture after painting will look perfect.

Laiming

Wood aged using the laming technique

Liming is the process of aging furniture with the help of lime effect. First, prepare the surface, degrease it. Treat the wood with a special pigment or paint. Paintwork materials will help to achieve any shade and texture. Apply paint along the fibers. So you emphasize the natural structure of the tree, and add the effect of "clogged dust" to the corners. For best results, it is advisable to apply the liming composition with a brush or gauze swab.

Useful information: When choosing a base color, do not forget that after drying it will look a little lighter.

Video. How to artificially age a tree with your own hands at home

An aged tree is one of fashion trends design for this season. Using any of the techniques described above, you can easily give surfaces such an effect at home. Artificially aged furniture will harmoniously look in the apartment and fill it with comfort.

Door panels made of MDF or Sibu plastic are used to improve thermal insulation characteristics entrance doors, as well as their aesthetics. Installing the panels yourself is easy, even with the help of a non-professional tool.

Finishing the sashes with MDF panels: how to work
Input door structures perform many functions, the most important of which are security and aesthetic design of the opening. The choice is always up to the user - wood or metal finish. Each of the options has its own characteristics. Over time, the taste preferences of the owner of the apartment may change. If the old canvas ceased to please with its impeccable appearance, and leather vinyl and chipboard cannot be ordered - MDF door panels will be the most cost-effective and quick solution to the problem.
MDF - substitute natural wood, which is a slab of medium density fibrous type. In a number of characteristics, it surpasses wood (subject to the observance of production technology). In our country, he received recognition relatively recently, but has already managed to win the favor of millions of buyers ordering goods for self-finishing in online stores or in warehouses.
The production of plates goes through three mandatory stages, none of which can be skipped. Cleaning wood from bark with subsequent processing into chips is the basic work to obtain a valuable product, thanks to which the sheathing will be durable.
Thorough rinsing of wood chips without the use of chemicals to remove foreign materials, dirt and sand.
Treatment of purified raw materials with steam (100ºС), which makes it possible to give the final product such characteristics as moisture resistance and preservation of its original appearance, regardless of weather conditions.
Drying in a special chamber.
The technological process makes the slabs both strong and pliable, they are easy to give desired shape using special tools. Sheathing the canvas and finishing the opening is a process that can be easily implemented with your own hands, following the sequence of installation of each individual element.
The reason for the popularity of plates
MDF has a number of undeniable advantages over cheaper and more expensive finishing materials. In the process of manufacturing these boards, a special binder is used - lignin, which is obtained from recycled wood. It is completely natural and does not harm human health.
Based on the quality composition finishing material, the following advantages can be identified:
high level environmental cleanliness,
wear resistance,
resistance to adverse effects external environment.
Many suppliers offer to purchase chipboard, motivating them with higher performance.
The table shows Comparative characteristics two main properties of products that affect their durability and the specifics of installation.
Properties
Chipboard
MDF
Density
600-750 kg/m3
720-870 kg/m3
Pressed chip size
1 cm
0.5-1mm
The density of the door panels is high enough for the resistance of the skin to mild to moderate mechanical damage. Minimum size pressed chips in the composition of the material allows you to make the perfect finish of the opening, regardless of its configuration. This makes MDF the preferred material for manufacturing. door panels.
Installation process: materials and work steps
You will need:
self-tapping screws,
a hammer,
screwdriver,
ruler (roulette),
Sibu decorative panels or standard.
The installation of the canvas begins with the production of all measurements. The resulting figures must be rechecked several times to reduce the risk of incorrectly cutting the panels.
The inner and outer parts must first be cleaned of accumulations of dirt and dust, ideally the surface is degreased with ethyl alcohol. Sheathing the opening is a responsible process, because even one missed mandatory step can lead to a departure of the MDF section from the base. If a entrance structure made of metal, it is worth using a special anti-corrosion compound that prevents the occurrence of dampness and rust inside the structure.
Panels are taken and applied on front door to the intended attachment point. This will make it possible to determine the location of door handles and other fittings. Holes are carefully made; size matching can be determined by attaching a previously removed handle.
Fastening is carried out on self-tapping screws, first small holes are made along the perimeter at regular intervals (10-12 cm). Do not worry that the bolt heads will be visible - the final stage of fastening will be the installation of the external decorative part.
Processing of openings is carried out in a similar way and solves two important tasks at once - aesthetic design and thermal insulation. Cold air from the outside will stumble upon a significant obstacle and will not penetrate into the apartment as intensively as when metal version finishes.
Interesting options design
One of the newest on the market construction technologies is Sibu decorative plastic. Finishing with it helps to build on new level interior and exterior door leaf. The product is based on impact-resistant polystyrene, and the surface can have different textures and shades: metallized, mirror, diamond in tones from rich dark to silver or golden light.
Polystyrene belongs to the category of reliable and environmentally friendly substances, absolutely safe for human life and health. Purchased from a trusted supplier, Sibu Decorative Laminate is the perfect finish for door leaf and opening. Smooth or structured - the choice modern man, seeking to make their home not only functional and comfortable, but also beautiful.
In an attempt to save money, many decide to trim on their own, having previously studied all the details and nuances, having watched a lot of training video courses. The event, with serious preparation, should end in success. Professional finishing with these door panels will ensure structural strength and durability, as well as emphasize the impeccable taste and sense of style of the apartment owner.

Recently, the question of how to age a tree is relevant. And this is primarily due to the fact that such wood processing has been widely used both in the design of interior details and in decoration. modern furniture. Even the most nondescript closet, if the tree is artificially aged, will find its own interesting story and will compare favorably with their factory counterparts. Consider a few secrets on how to age a tree with your own hands.

Under natural conditions, in order for a wooden cabinet to acquire a noble stamp of antiquity, it is required long time. Add here the effects of ultraviolet radiation, changes in humidity and temperature, mechanical damage and the work of wood-boring beetles. We don't have much time. Therefore, we will replace all natural influences with artificial ones, but in the end we will achieve a very similar result. Artificial aging of wood combines two processes: mechanical surface treatment and subsequent coating with paints and varnishes.

Impregnation of aged wood

In order to age a tree, in addition to the tree itself, we need:

  • steel brush (manual);
  • a set of brush attachments for a drill or angle grinder (brushing, plastic, sisal);
  • sandpaper of different grain sizes;
  • set of brushes;
  • White Spirit;
  • decorative impregnations for dark-colored wood, for example, trademark"Pinotex" and "Belinka";
  • azure "Belinka" (white);
  • sponge;
  • steel wool;
  • vinegar;
  • clear nail polish;
  • acrylic paints;
  • craquelure varnish.

Do-it-yourself wood processing can be done in many ways. Below are some simple but effective tricks.

Brushing (from the English brush - “brush”) is a special technique for aging wood, in which soft fibers on the surface are removed with a metal brush, and thus a texture pattern is created, subsequently enhanced by tinting.

Sanding wood with a steel bristle brush

First, let's look at how to age wood if the surface to be treated is small and there is no need to create a deep relief. In this case, aging does not require electromechanical tools and can be done manually with a steel brush. The brush moves strictly along the line of fibers.

For rough brushing, they resort to mechanical processing of wood using nozzles for a drill or angle grinder (angular Sander). First, a rough selection of soft fibers is made using a metal brush-brush. It is important to remember that brush movements should be made with the same pressure and along the fibers. Otherwise, hard annual rings can be damaged.

Then, to remove excess pile, a plastic brush with inclusions of abrasive material is used, and for finishing polishing, a brush coated with sisal (can be replaced with fine sandpaper). At the end of brushing, the product is thoroughly cleaned of sawdust and dust.

Preparation of wood after aging for painting

Further aging of the tree is done by applying tinting. For tinting, use the Belinka texture coating of dark color and a brush (or roller). A few minutes after staining with a sponge, carefully remove the top layer of paint, show the wood pattern. After waiting for complete drying, we fix the result with a transparent varnish.

In case you want to get a more complex texture, namely bleached wood, after the first layer, it is necessary to re-apply a layer of Belinka azure, but already white color. Then, just as carefully, remove with a sponge and fix with varnish.

There is another simple, but no less effective way to get aged bleached wood. To do this, after brushing, Belinka white azure is applied to the wood, after which the surface is treated with fine sandpaper and covered with a protective varnish.

Artificial aging by brushing with subsequent painting is advisable to carry out when decorating large interior elements, such as ceiling beams.

Coloring in several layers

Artificial aging of wood in this way gives an excellent result when used to decorate furniture.

Before staining, it is recommended to apply “traces of time” to the surface of the wood. It can be scratches, small chips, scuffs, dents, wormholes. The specifics of such work may require the use of a hammer, mallet, nails, a manual metal brush, etc. Important! If you want an item to look authentic, don't forget that furniture's most vulnerable spots are its corners and protruding parts. And in everything there should be a sense of proportion!

Painting aged wood in several layers

At the end of the mechanical aging process, the product is covered with a layer of dark tinting Pinotex. Due to the fact that the substance has a thick consistency, in the future you can get an interesting effect if the layer is uneven. When the coating dries, it can be lightly rubbed with sandpaper or a metal brush.

The next layer is a white translucent Belinka, which is applied in such a way that a dark base is visible through it. After the glaze has dried with a metal brush, movements along the fibers create a contrasting texture pattern. To make the texture softer, the wood is again covered with white glaze, but this time half-diluted with mineral spirits.

Use for aging open fire wood

There is another way to do the aging of a tree with your own hands. For this we will use gas burner. Annealing can be done with or without pre-brushing. In any case, the wood is exposed to open fire, which makes it saturated color. After that, the texture is revealed with sandpaper, and the result is fixed with a protective varnish.

Artificial aging of wood by open fire

In addition, soft wood fibers can be removed by more intense firing. Then, in order to develop the pattern, you need a steel brush.

When working with open flames, fire safety measures must be observed.

Applying Steel Wool and Vinegar

Do-it-yourself wood aging using vinegar and steel wool is based on chemical reaction these substances and its subsequent effect on the change in color and texture of the wood surface.

First you need to place steel wool in a glass container with vinegar, the reaction will begin, the solution will change its color. The intensity of the color depends on the duration of the reaction. We will not dwell on the nuances of the mechanical preparation of wood before staining, they are discussed in detail in the description of the previous methods.

Using salt and steel wool to age wood

Before applying the resulting solution to the product, the surface must be treated with brewed black tea. As you know, tea contains tannins, which, when reacted with vinegar, will make the color of the wood more saturated. Tea, like vinegar later, is applied with a brush.

Then the tree is covered with the resulting solution. As soon as the solution hits the wood, the surface immediately begins to darken, gaining color. It takes several hours for complete drying. It is possible to apply one or more layers, depending on how intense the color you need. After finishing painting, the surface must be protected with wax or clear varnish.

The aged wood obtained in this way perfectly imitates an old tree.

Getting craquelure on a wooden surface

The craquelure technique is a set of sequential actions that allows you to artificially age the painted surface of wooden furniture, giving it a cracked look. Such aging of wood can be done in several ways, the simplest of which is as follows.

We get craquelure at home

For prepared wooden surface a layer is applied acrylic paint. The color of the paint is chosen taking into account how you see future cracks. Each time, before proceeding to the second and subsequent stages, it is necessary to wait for the surface to dry completely.

Next, the paint is covered with craquelure varnish. The width of the cracks directly depends on the thickness of the craquelure varnish layer. Then a second coat of paint is applied, always matte. The paint is applied quickly, in one layer, the direction of the strokes is the same. After that, the surface of the tree is covered with a network of cracks.

To preserve such a coating, treatment with a protective varnish is required.

These are just a few tips on how to age a tree at home. In practice, it is also possible to use stains and other textured coatings. There are also technically more complex techniques to get an aged tree.

Staining artificially aged wood

At the same time, we should not forget that sometimes old boards literally lie at our fingertips: in the pantry, in the country or with neighbors. And it can be much easier to restore and use a real one. old board than to engage in artificial aging of the new.
