Step 5 - Remove soot from the pan with a sponge

Further, depending on the layer of soot, you can use a sponge to remove soot from the pan. Under the influence of soda and acetic acid, the soot will be softened and you will only have to scrape it off with a hard sponge.

Perhaps the Teflon coating would not have survived this procedure, but apparently nothing happened with the ceramic one.
