From the history of WIRE PRODUCTS

Creation wire products - ancient art, which probably originated in Egypt around 3000 BC. Archaeological finds indicate that in 2600 BC. wire used in Sumer to make gold and silver ribbons with which court ladies adorned their hairstyles. Gradually, this craft spread in Asia Minor and reached Europe through Constantinople.

wire first obtained by cutting narrow strips from a metal sheet, which were either twisted and then rolled between two flat surfaces to smooth their sharp edges, or spirally wound onto a round core.

Now wire produced by drawing. The essence of this technology is the pulling of metal rods through conical tapering holes. This method was invented in Persia in the 6th century BC, but it reached Europe only in the 10th century AD, when wire were first produced on an industrial scale. Steel wire used for the manufacture of chain mail, as well as brushes for combing wool, for horse harness, chains, fish hooks and needles. Gold and Silver wire Until that time, it was produced almost exclusively for the production of jewelry, but in the Middle Ages, embroidery became its main purpose.

By the middle of the 16th century, there were at least 6,000 wire drawers in London alone, and around this time the first mechanical drawing machines appeared in England. The water wheel drawing machine was invented by Rudolph of Nuremberg in the 14th century, but it was not used in England until 1564. Making gold and silver wire flourished until the Great french revolution, after which the fashion for gold embroidery passed, and this industry began to decline.

Because iron rusts, very few objects once made from iron wire have come down to our days. To early XIX century gained popularity such methods of protection wire products from rust, like tinning and black varnishing.

America imported wire from England and Germany until 1812, when the war with England led to a cut in supplies. Since that time, the Americans began to build their own drawing factories. By the middle of the 19th century, with the advent of steam engine mass production became possible wire, wire mesh and wire fences. The industry flourished, reaching greatest development in Europe and America at the end of the century, and then a wide variety of different wire products, from whisks and baskets to balcony railings. All sorts of household items were made from wire, until the advent of plastic led to the gradual extinction of this craft.

art today WIRE WEAVING thrives in many regions, such as Africa and Mexico. And in Europe, with the renewed interest in folk crafts, it is experiencing a rebirth.

WIRE WEAVING - materials

Often wire it can be round, less often square, hexagonal or semicircular. It is produced from different metals and often has a coating, such as enamel or polymer. Wire diameter is measured in millimeters. Also braiding wire differs in rigidity (soft, semi-rigid and rigid) depending on the material from which it is made.

Copper wire

At copper wire attractive warm color. It comes in different hardness and diameter. Soft copper wire is easy to work with and is used for manufacturing majority wire products. Enamelled copper wire is ideal for making crafts due to the variety of colors enamel coating. Tinned copper wire is shiny and does not oxidize, so it is especially suitable for kitchen utensils. In addition to the usual copper wire there is also silver-plated copper wire. Silver-plated copper wire comes in a variety of diameters and is particularly suitable for making jewelry and small, delicate wire products.

brass wire

Brass alloy wire has better corrosion resistance, good strength and elasticity. The introduction of additional components improves the characteristics of alloys, allowing you to expand the scope of use of brass wire. According to the state of the alloy from which brass wire is made, it is divided into soft, semi-hard and hard.

aluminum wire

Aluminum wire has a dull bluish-gray color. It is easy to work with because it is very soft and flexible.

Thin steel cable

A thin steel cable is a thin strand of galvanized steel wire twisted into a bundle. He has beautiful texture and very high strength. Care must be taken when working with it.

Galvanized steel wire

Galvanized steel wire does not rust and is therefore ideal for use on outdoors. It is hard and does not bend as easily as many other types of wire, and because it is springy, care must be taken when working with it.

wire mesh

Wire mesh - versatile material for , easy to work with and inexpensive. Made from galvanized steel wire. Usually hedges and enclosures for animals are made from it. Available in different widths and with cells of different sizes.

People have been using wire since ancient times. At that time, various household items and hair ornaments were made from it. First, wire was made by cutting metal sheets into narrow strips, which were twisted and rolled between two surfaces. AT modern world these products are obtained by a process such as drawing. The essence of this technology is to pull metal rods through narrowing holes of a conical shape.

This method was invented in the sixth century BC and with its help they have already begun to produce this product on an industrial scale. In general, even at that distant time the manufacture of wire products was very popular, and craftsmen were engaged in the manufacture of chain mail, brushes for combing wool, chains, hooks and needles, horse harness, and so on.

Now the production of such a product has been established and automated. Our company is engaged in the manufacture of wire products with a cross section of 0.2 to 12 mm. Skilled craftsmen will produce products according to custom order if required by the client. Round wire is produced from special steel. In terms of rigidity, it can be soft, semi-rigid and rigid - it depends on the material from which the product is made and on raw materials. At the final stage of processing, wire products can be polished, sanded or matted, and then coated protective layer varnish or other protective and decorative coating.

Section 2. Technology for manufacturing products from thin sheet metal and wire

Topic 2.4.Alignment, marking, wire cutting technology

§ 12. MANUFACTURE OF PRODUCTS FROM WIRE

1. What are the 3 stages of the design of sheet metal products?

2. What are the similarities and differences between wood and sheet metal product design?

3. Is the product called an analogue? model? layout?

4. What is the manufacturing technology of the product according to the template? stencil?

5. What dimensions of the product are put down on the graphic document?

6. What technological operation is performed before the manufacture of products?

Many different useful products can be made from wire. Typically, factories produce wire in coils. For the manufacture of the product, it is necessary to cut off (bite off) the workpiece desired length. Perform the specified technological operation with the help of wire cutters. Depending on the thickness of the wire to be cut off, the industry produces different kinds wire cutters (Fig. 132).

Pliers are used to cut off aluminum or copper wire (Fig. 133). This is a multifunctional locksmith tool with which you can cut soft wire of different diameters, squeeze small parts, press (seal) wire junctions, bend wire, sheet metal, and more.

Rice. 132. Types of wire cutters for cutting steel wire: a - up to 5 mm in diameter; b - up to 3 mm in diameter; c - with a diameter of more than 8 mm

Rice. 133. General purpose pliers

When cutting wire with pliers or wire cutters, they are held right hand, grasping the handles with four fingers. Holding the wire with your left hand, it is placed between cutting edges, directing the upper blade exactly along the marking line, which should be visible during cutting and remain on the workpiece as an allowance for its further processing (Fig. 134).

Then, squeezing the handles of the nippers with all fingers, except for the little finger or index finger, which serve to retract the lower handle to the required angle, cutting is performed, which is completed by gripping the handles with all fingers.

The steel wire is divided into pieces, filed with a file edge and broken.

But, before starting work, the separated piece of wire must be straightened. Various techniques are used to perform this technological operation.

Soft wire made of copper and aluminum with a diameter of up to 3 mm can be straightened by moving it under tension around a cylindrical mandrel or between two compressed wooden blocks or between scored in a row in wooden board nails or a mallet wooden stand(Fig. 135).

The steel wire is straightened with a mallet on a steel or cast iron plate or with a hammer on a wooden stand. To do this, put on the table top of the workbench wooden plate, place the wire on it with the bulges up and apply light blows to the curvature.

Straightening starts from the middle of the workpiece, first to one end, and then they take it by the opposite part of the workpiece and perform the same technological operation (Fig. 136).

Straighten the wire with a metal hammer metal surface it is impossible, because the workpiece from this splashes, that is, it is damaged.

Rice. 134. Cutting wire with wire cutters

Rice. 135. Methods for straightening wire from soft metals: a - attraction; b - wooden bars; in - stretching between the nails; g - mallet

Short workpieces can also be straightened with pliers and pliers (Fig. 137). Depending on the purpose, pliers have a different design. Pliers with flat toes (Fig. 138) are used for fixing flat, round objects, straightening and bending workpieces, etc., and with bent ones - for working in hard-to-reach places.

After leveling the workpiece, they begin to design the product. This process consists of similar steps as the design of sheet metal products. First of all, the purpose of the product, its shape, the dimensions of the structural elements and the product as a whole, the material from which it is supposed to be made, and the like are determined. The shape, dimensions of the product, other data necessary for the manufacture of the product and its control are depicted on a sketch, technical drawing or drawing.

After completing the drawing, select necessary materials, tools and fixtures, cut off the workpiece with a processing allowance and proceed to the manufacture of the product.

Details of complex curvilinear and rounded shapes are made using round-nose pliers (Fig. 139), so, for example, a ring can be made (Fig. 140).

It is better to bend steel wire on a mandrel (Fig. 141).

Bending the wire at different angles can also be done in a vice with pliers and a hammer using a wooden adapter (Fig. 142).

For the manufacture of rings, spiral coils are wound on cylindrical rods. The rod with one end of the wire is clamped in a vice, then, pulling the wire, tightly, without gaps, wind the coil to coil (Fig. 143).

If you cut the spiral, the turns will fall apart into rings (Fig. 144).

In industrial conditions, special machines are used for the manufacture of bent parts of various machines and mechanisms (Fig. 145).

When working with wire, you must observe following rules labor safety:

1. When cutting the workpiece, do not bring the wire close to the face.

2. It is allowed to work only with a serviceable tool.

3. Do not keep the hand that holds the workpiece close to the cutting or bending of the wire.

Talent, skill and imagination allow you to create truly amazing masterpieces. This process requires a lot of diligence and patience.

It is now gaining popularity. Increasingly, you can find wire decor in houses and apartments. Contemporary galleries and exhibitions are also adorned with wire exhibits.

Story

Weaving people began in ancient times. In 3000 BC, wire products appeared in Egypt. Also, hair ornaments were made from gold and silver wire in Sumer in 2600. Later it came to Europe. Wire was made by cutting pieces of metal and rolling it between two flat surfaces to smooth out sharp edges, or by spirally winding a thin strip around a core. In the 6th century BC, the Persians began to produce wire by drawing. But in Europe, this method began to be used only in the tenth century AD with the beginning industrial production this material. Many iron wire products have been lost, as they are highly susceptible to corrosion. Currently, the processes of tinning and varnishing significantly extend the life of products.

Weaving tools

Today, wire weaving flourishes in Mexico and Africa. There was also a demand for similar products in Europe, which led to the revival of this craft.

To work with wire, you will need special tools. You can straighten the wire with a mallet. To obtain rings and bends, round-nose pliers are used. To achieve a corner bend, you will need pliers. The cuts are made with wire cutters, and if the wire is too thick, then it is cut with a chisel. Files are used to eliminate irregularities and roughness after cutting. various forms and notches.

Weaving materials

The wire for weaving comes in various sections and diameters. It can be round, square, hexagonal and semicircular. The coating of the wire can be polymer or enamel.

It has a warm pleasant color. Due to the presence of a large number of different degrees of hardness, a variety of diameters and an abundance of enamel coating colors, it is most often used in modern weaving. Silver-plated wire products look especially beautiful.

Brass wire is also divided into soft, hard and semi-hard. Good anti-corrosion properties and the presence of various alloys make it possible to use it in many products.

Very easy to use due to its softness and flexibility. Has a bluish-gray color.

Galvanized is quite difficult to use because of its hardness. It is very springy, and when working with it, you must strictly follow safety rules.

Copper wire weaving

A wide variety of products can be made from copper wire. Various toys and Christmas decorations, money trees, figurines of birds and animals, fish and insects, flowers and lampshades, coasters and holders - these are just a few examples of such works. Separately, it is worth highlighting women's accessories. So, you can make a belt, bracelet, ring, earrings, necklace, chain or pendant from copper.

For weaving products from copper wire, a material with a diameter of 0.2 to 1.5 mm is used. Thick wire is used to create the base of the product, medium wire is used for braiding, and thin wire is suitable for weaving and finishing.

The combination of copper wire and beads allows you to create not only magnificent masterpieces, but also helps children different ages develop motor skills and artistic talents.

Products from beads and wire

For weaving from beads, it is possible to use both ready-made patterns and develop your own. There are several weaving techniques that allow you to create various crafts. Children can be encouraged to make simple flat figurines of animals or favorite cartoon characters using the parallel weaving technique, while more experienced users practice creating three-dimensional figures or decorative ornaments. A wide range of colors makes it possible to produce amazing jewelry and decorative elements. Products from beads and wire allow you to create unique accessories and make life brighter.

Wire weaving at home

Create beautiful decoration home is real. Making a wire product with your own hands is a rather laborious and painstaking process. Depending on the complexity of the work, it takes from several hours to several days, or even weeks, to complete work on your creation. Correct selection materials and availability necessary equipment will make your wildest dreams come true. Many hobbyists are constantly improving their skills in making wire products. Photos of some of the works can be seen in this article.

Using wire weaving, you can make crafts of varying complexity and beauty. Modern materials and a large number of educational information will help everyone to try themselves in this craft and evaluate their capabilities.

In order for the wire to acquire the shape necessary for the manufacture various parts and parts, wire bending is performed. This process is performed either manually using appropriate devices, or mechanically, working with special equipment. The essence of metal wire bending is that the inner layer is compressed, and the upper one is stretched.

Wire bending by hand

Convenience and simplicity is ensured by the softness of the wire. Such material bends well and accepts without problems desired forms and curves. What about tough and rough steel wire, then tools and devices are used here that can give the desired look. A very common method is bending by hand using clamping in a vice and a hammer. The main tools for manual bending are:

  • Pliers. Handy when holding wire to bend metal in different directions.
  • Round nose pliers. Gives a rounded curve, ideal for creating a small diameter.
  • Side cutters (nippers). Necessary when cutting the workpiece.
  • Pliers. Truly multifunctional - the workpiece can not only be held, but also bite off if necessary.

Often, templates (mandrels) are used when working with products of a complex profile and for bending the thickest wire.

Safety

Work is performed subject to the following rules:

  • materials are firmly attached, and tools and fixtures are in proper working order;
  • templates, tools should not be left on the edge of the workbench;
  • the left hand should be at a distance from the bend.

It should be noted that manual bending is successful with certain experience and skills. In the absence of such, it is better to resort to the help of a specialist.

Bending with equipment

Wire bending is in demand on an industrial scale. This is more true for large industrial cities, for example, in Moscow, the need for this material processing process is quite high.

Machine equipment performs processing in different ways:

  • Method "from the bay". Principle of operation: the wire from the installed bay is fed into the required block of the machine.
  • The method of rolling wire is widespread. A special tool and an outer roller are bent and given the required radius.
  • With the help of CNC machine, the actions are performed automatically, which saves time efficiently.
  • Universal equipment - single-console machine. The workpiece is bent strictly sequentially.
  • The material is sometimes corrected using the correct two-plane block or frame.

The choice of equipment directly depends on the desired type and shape of the finished part, product.

Specialist Services

The demand for metal bending makes bending services quite in demand. Wire bending services to order are performed manually or using equipment.

Much depends on the volume of production, the simplicity or complexity of the work, and other nuances indicated by the customer. If experience and knowledge are extensive, you can do the work yourself. It is worth recalling that the implementation of safety rules will save not only health, but, it happens, life as well.

Our company is always quality, a wide range of services and affordability.
