Most often, punctures and cuts appear on such coatings. They may arise from careless handling ceiling covering, and violations of the rules of its operation.

The film itself is very thin, and you can easily cut or tear it. If the lamp is installed carelessly, it is possible to touch the area with a sharp tool, next to the installation site, the cabinet brought into the room will easily pierce the coating with its edge during installation, even a child playing inaccurately in the room, throwing a toy with sharp edges to the ceiling, can accidentally damage it.

Another common cause the occurrence of defects on such a ceiling, the lamp may become too powerful, the heat from which can easily melt thin film. And this applies not only to built-in models, but also to pendant chandeliers that were not installed correctly. The distance from the lamp to the plane of the ceiling should not be less than 10 centimeters.

Factory marriage can also cause gaps. Sometimes, low-quality and cheap raw materials are used for the production of stretch fabrics. It turns out a material that does not withstand tension and breaks. Most often, the stretched fabric can tear at the place of the connecting seam.

The harpoon with which the film is attached to the mounting element can also come off. This will either be a factory defect, or the reason lies in the coating being too tight, which will be an installation error.

What can be done with your own hands

Some types of damage can be repaired without calling the master. For example, the repair of a stretch ceiling, on which a small cut has appeared, can be performed without the involvement of a specialist.

For this, its size should not be more than 10 centimeters. Such a defect is eliminated by gluing the cut section with the most common construction tape. It will hold the edges of the cut, however, after gluing, it is still better to invite a specialist who will completely eliminate the defect.

In case of a rupture or a similar defect that does not exceed 2 centimeters in length, you can simply seal the hole that has arisen with a small piece of material left during the installation of the ceiling.

Punctures are also self-repairable. True, you will need to buy special glue for such operations, but some hardware stores have such a composition. The main thing is that the diameter of the puncture does not exceed 2 millimeters, otherwise, it will not work to seal it without involving the master.

In other cases, when the size of the repaired area is larger than those specified above, you will have to call a specialist who will help you cope with the problems that have arisen, or advise you to completely change the canvas. In what cases the ceiling cannot be repaired, but its complete replacement is required, we will consider further.

What needs to be repaired

Most common occurrence when the film or fabric cannot be repaired - a gap along the weld. The scale of such a gap makes its repair impractical. With a small gap, the master may be able to repair it, but if the seam has parted over a large area, the entire canvas will have to be changed.

Places where lamps or fixtures have melted, most often, can be masked and strengthened. If this happened around the built-in lamp, the melted area around it is sealed with a special heat-resistant ring, which will mask the damaged area and strengthen it.

If a tear or cut occurs near the edge, no further than 15 centimeters from the baguette, you can simply remove it. To do this, the stretched material is removed from the baguette that fastens it, and cut off along the entire length, capturing the area with the cut. After that, the canvas is stretched again and tucked into a baguette.

Relatively small defects that are far enough from the edge can also be masked. Where a hole or puncture has appeared, you can embed another lamp or ventilation grill. In general, there is no difference what to install, as long as the place of the gap is completely hidden by the installed device or decorative element.

If the tension cover is not installed correctly, another type of damage may occur - the separation of the harpoon, which secures the fabric in the baguette. This defect cannot be eliminated on its own - you will need to call the wizard, who, in most cases, will fix the problem in a short time.

It is much worse when this happened due to too much tension in the fabric. It could be cut incorrectly, and then, the entire canvas will need to be replaced.

When flooded by neighbors from above, stretched film will almost inevitably sag. It can be re-tensioned, although it will require the arrival of a master with a heat gun. If not a PVC film is stretched, but a fabric, then after flooding, ugly spots appear on it, which, unfortunately, cannot be completely removed. This cover needs to be replaced.

Here you can just see how a small gust of stretched fabric is eliminated, near the fastening baguette. A complete replacement was not required - it was done by pulling on one side, with the transfer of the fastening element to a new location.
