Mix dry gypsum putty knauf fugen. Technical characteristics and application of Fugenfüller plaster

Hello dear readers! Today we are talking about putty again. This time, our test subject will finally be the Fugenfüller universal gypsum putty, officially known as Knauf Fugen. Fugenfüller is an outdated name, but firmly settled in the minds of most of the hardened master finishers. So that's what I'll basically call her.

The mixture is available in three variations - simple Fugen, Fugen GF and Fugen Hydro. GF (GV), of course, is intended for, and Hydro (Hydro) - for moisture-resistant drywall. It contains hydrophobic additives. I have never seen these two varieties. construction stores. Most likely, it makes sense to look for them only in Knauf branded stores.

Packing - paper bags of 25, 10 and 5 kg in white-yellow-blue colors. The color of the putty is usually gray, but sometimes white Fugen also comes across.

Our hero (or heroine - putty) owes his fame, first of all, to his versatility. Let's see where it applies:

  1. Sealing joints of drywall sheets using reinforcing tape (sickles)
  2. Sealing cracks, and any damage to the GKL
  3. Thin-layer puttying of plastered and concrete substrates
  4. Filling joints in precast concrete elements
  5. Installation and filling of joints of gypsum tongue-and-groove slabs
  6. Gluing drywall sheets to relatively flat surfaces (up to 4 mm difference) - I wrote about this in the article ""
  7. Bonding and puttying various gypsum elements
  8. Bonding protective metal corners

Here is such a sickly range of applications. You and I, first of all, will be interested in points 1,3 and 6. Let's dwell on them in more detail.

So, if you putty them under the wallpaper, take these wallpapers thicker so that they do not shine through. But the surface will feel perfect.

  • Well, I already wrote in detail about the installation of drywall on glue. Here, for me personally, the question is moot - is it worth it to minor bumps spend GC. Nevertheless, sheets are glued to the fugenfüller with a bang.

Characteristics

Here I will mean the usual Fugen, not GW and not hydro. The maximum layer during application is only 3 mm. When trying to apply thicker layers, you will get an unpleasant picture with sagging and furrows. It's a pity there are no photos, but, in general, Fugen is not intended for thick-layer puttying, really.

Drying time is very short. When I say very much, it means very much. In no case should you knead Fugenfüller in kilograms, 20-30 minutes - and that's it, you can carry it to the trash. It's still a plaster mix. By the way, there is a version that white Fugen (rarely, but comes across) freezes faster than gray. So, friends, keep this in mind, knead a little. Another caveat - dirty containers and tools shorten the life ready solution twice. Yes, yes, this is not fiction, I tell you quite seriously.

The shelf life of the mixture is six months. Like ice cream, and that always surprised me. What is there to spoil? It's plaster. But the official figures are as follows.

In terms of consistency, Fugenfüller putty differs markedly from Vetonit and Shitrok. Those mixtures are, let's say, viscous. And our hero behaves differently, constantly strives to fall off the spatula, does not reach for it.

The maximum fraction size of this mixture is 0.15 mm, which makes it possible to obtain a very high-quality surface for wallpapering and even for painting, but this is quite risky. Still, for painting, you need a uniformly white, and not a mottled gray surface.

Now let's find out what positive features distinguish the product we are discussing now from the rest.

Advantages

  • High strength. For solid puttying, this plus is not so obvious, but still the risk of tearing off the putty along with the wallpaper is here zero. But in the restoration of closed plasterboards, the installation of protective corners - this is already a significant advantage.
  • Very low consumption. Indeed, if you correctly leveled all the walls at home (along the lighthouses), there is a chance that one 25-kilogram Fugenfüller bag will be enough to putty them throughout the apartment (well, in a kopeck piece, for sure).
  • High-quality surface for wallpapering and, if desired, even painting. Very smooth and pleasant to the touch, almost like a mirror.
  • Quite low price - less than 500 rubles per 25 kg.

disadvantages

  • Very fast grip. Although this can often be a plus.
  • Fugenfüller is very difficult to grind. Even #100 abrasive mesh can hardly cope with this task. The effort has to be serious.
  • The impossibility of high-quality application of a layer of more than 3 mm.
  • Potential risk of dark gaps in the case of gluing thin light wallpaper.

As you can see, as a simple putty, our hero is not so good. The secret of its success lies precisely in the versatility of this mixture. They can do almost everything.

How to knead Fugenfüller

Here everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. In this case, the properties of the mixture will very much depend on the method of mixing it. First, pour the mixture into the water slowly and over its entire surface. And not with a trowel, but from the palm of your hand. It is necessary to pour until the powder level slightly exceeds the water level in the container. Then you need to let the mixture brew a little, just a couple of minutes - it will swell a little.

And finally, we begin to mix the whole thing. Manually. No mixers. At first, the resulting mass will seem liquid to you, but do not rush to conclusions. After a minute or two, it thickens just to the optimum consistency.

This method, in my experience, gives the best effect and longest time putty work. If you really don’t want to mix by hand at all, then use a mixer, but at least do not neglect the method I have proposed for pouring the mixture into water. By the way, the method of mixing Uniflot is similar to that described.

And one more tip - do not dump the rest of the Fugen from the spatula back into the bucket. This significantly reduces the time of working with it, plus leads to the formation of lumps.

That's it. I don't know what else to say about this lineup. It seems to have said enough. So for now! See you on the pages of the site! Do not forget

Everyone knows that overhaul apartments is a very laborious and costly process. During construction works may arise a large number of problems: lack of materials, improper selection of equipment and much more. If you are going to finish the walls with drywall sheets, then you need to think about buying high-quality putty. The market leader in this category is Fugenfüller putty, which meets all international quality standards.

Majority professional builders recommend this mix best material for sealing joints between plasterboard sheets. Fügenfüler putty has the best price-quality ratio compared to other putty materials. In this article, we will consider the technological and operational properties of this product and study the method of its use.

A few years ago, Knauf supplied the sale of dry mortar, which was called Fugenfüller. Under this name, high quality construction putty was remembered by Russian buyers. Now the product has a new name - Knauf Fugen, it is used primarily for large-scale construction work inside residential and industrial premises.

Due to its unique composition, the material has long term operation and is not affected by factors environment. The main component of putty is gypsum, as well as additional binders chemical elements(provide increased flexibility).

It's truly versatile construction material, with its help, you can repair microcracks in the wall and on the ceiling. If desired, it is possible to eliminate irregularities or oversights in the painting of various load-bearing structures. Not one major overhaul is complete without finishing, but interior design country house simply impossible to imagine without using putty Knauf Fugen.

Important! The manufacturing company has changed the name of its product to Fugen (this is an analogue), so if you come across a product with the name "Fugenfuhler" in the store, you should know that this is an expired copy (always check the expiration date before buying building materials).

Composition and structure of the material

If we consider the composition of this putty, we can see that it practically does not differ from the world-famous exclusive Rotband products. putty Knauf company Fugenfüller is made using high quality gypsum and polymers. Polymer additives give the texture density and uniformity, and can also radically change the technical characteristics of the product. It is also worth noting that the different scale of gypsum fractions affects the quality gypsum mixture.

To date, Knauf Fugen putty is presented in several modifications and pleases customers not only with low prices, but also with a variety of shades: gray, white, pink, brown, black.

Description of putties Fugen

Gypsum putty Fugen is universal material which is intended for interior decoration various premises(whether residential apartment or an industrial facility under construction). Unfortunately, this product has one important drawback - the lack of water resistance and rapid solidification, which limits its scope (the mixture is not suitable for rooms with high humidity and for exterior decoration of construction projects).

Knauf Fugen universal gypsum putty does not have water resistance due to the large amount of polymer additives that affect the retention of water masses and slow down the setting of moisture with the surface.

Knauf has developed two more modifications from this series:

  • Fugenfüller GW;
  • Fugen Hydro.

Putty Knauf Fugen GV has won multiple awards and is recognized among buyers Western Europe and Russia. Specialists and regular users note the high environmental friendliness and safety of the product, as well as excellent performance - as the gypsum putty (25 kg) is used, it does not crumble and retains its original appearance for a long time.

The second option called Hydro is moisture resistant. The material is intended for sealing drywall joints and mounting gypsum moisture-resistant tongue-and-groove boards. Does its job well, does not shrink, withstands high level humidity in the room.

Recently, the analogue of Rotband has been especially popular - fine-grained putty for 25 kg. It is used to seal irregularities and chips (no more than five millimeters in size). One of the areas of use of this building material is also frameless installation in warehouse production facilities.

Where is the product applied?

The areas of use of Fugen putty include:

  • elimination of seams and microcracks between concrete structures;
  • sealing cuts and chips in drywall sheets;
  • partial or complete puttying of walls made of concrete, drywall and other materials;
  • transformation (grouting) of irregularities drywall constructions, as well as hiding cracks on the surface of tongue-and-groove plates;
  • liaison role in installation work(for example, installation of reinforcing corners);
  • as an adhesive solution, putty is used to connect several parts of drywall structures.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any building material, putty has advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of this product include:

  • the possibility of carrying out construction work with such a fastidious material in operation as drywall;
  • obtaining the most durable seam, which ensures the durability of the construction and installation works;
  • low consumption of putty mortar and affordable price;
  • environmental friendliness and safety for the health of people and pets;
  • the material is sold in bags of 25 kg - this amount is enough to finish a large area.

The disadvantages of this product experts include:

  • extremely fast drying process, which limits the use of the material in domestic conditions;
  • inability to use with sharp bends of the structure (more than three millimeters);
  • long and difficult process grinding of the surface layer.

Technical and operational properties

Before purchasing putty, it is worth carefully studying its technological and operational characteristics, the efficiency of subsequent construction work directly depends on them. Distinctive features Applications:

  • Fine-grained structure of the material - the size of one fraction is approximately 0.15 mm.
  • The possibility of applying several layers, while their thickness should not exceed three millimeters (minimum layer of one millimeter).
  • To seal microcracks between drywall, two layers are applied.
  • To obtain one and a half liters of the finished mixture, one kilogram of dry matter is needed.
  • The use of dry matter for the preparation of the mixture is possible only at a positive air temperature (at least 10 degrees).
  • After 30 minutes after mixing the mortar, installation work can begin.
  • The mixture will keep for six months (with proper maintenance).

Putty has one distinctive feature- fast curing on the surface. That is why in the process of construction work it is necessary to carefully monitor the consumption of dry matter, it is best to plan in advance how much is needed to finish a particular area.

As for the Fugen Knauf gypsum mixture, it should be borne in mind that it is applied only on a perfectly flat surface. Therefore, the surface is preliminarily cleaned, primed (if necessary), walls and load-bearing structures are leveled. The smoother the surface, the less material will be consumed.

To equalize the roughness, only one layer is applied, and at least two layers are required to hide cracks. Thus, the average consumption is one to two kilograms per 1 m2 of coverage.

It is best to dilute the dry mix in a small container, while the thicker the putty structure is, the more uniform the first layer will be. The instructions on the package will help you find out the exact proportions. To apply putty, you will need several narrow spatulas ranging in size from fifteen to thirty centimeters.

Fact of importance finishing works is not questioned even by homeowners who are far from the basics construction. Therefore, everyone knows that the result of all construction activities almost completely depends on the quality of putty materials. Practice has proven good results when using Knauf materials.

Absolute finish: Knauf Fugenfüller putties and their main technical characteristics

First of all, you should decide that the line of materials under this name consists of three variations:

  • standard Fugen;
  • mixture for gypsum fiber sheets Fugen GF;
  • mixture for moisture-resistant drywall Fugen Hydro.

All of the above compositions are produced in the form of a dry powdered conglomerate, which includes gypsum, as well as appropriate additives. The composition of the additional components of putty called Knauf Fugen is kept secret, but it is known that their purpose is to retain moisture, give plasticity to the solution and slow down the setting process. In the case of brand Hydro additives increase the hydrophobic qualities of the finish.

For residential premises, an important feature can be considered the absence of any chemical components, i.e. mixtures are absolutely environmentally friendly. In addition, professionals note the following the benefits of these materials:

  1. High rates of coating strength, which is important when restoring GKL with defects or installing protective corners.
  2. Low consumption of the finished mixture on condition of a flat base.
  3. High quality coating, suitable for wallpapering, and with proper processing - and for painting.
  4. Affordable cost and a wide range of packaging options - 25, 10 and 5 kg.

Below are technical characteristics of all three types of putty Knauf Fugenfüller which confirm the versatility of this product.

However, along with all the advantages of the listed mixtures, practicing masters note some disadvantages associated with their use:

  1. Rapid solidification of the solution.
  2. Difficulties with grinding the treated surface, sometimes, using even an abrasive mesh under No. 100, you have to make serious efforts.
  3. The impossibility of finishing with a layer of more than 3 mm.
  4. The risk of dark gaps when pasting with light wallpaper.

Concerning last claim, then it may be due to the wrong selection of the shade of the mixture itself, since the manufacturer produces white, gray and pink powder.

Where are putties under the brand name Knauf Fugen used?

The area of use of Knauf putty mixtures is designed for fine finish heated residential premises, where the main focus is:

  • elimination of minor damage to the base surface;
  • filling joints between GKL sheets with crimped edges (using reinforcing tape);
  • finishing thin layer plastered and concrete planes;
  • sealing of docking lines of tongue-and-groove plates based on gypsum.

The special composition and technical characteristics of the Knauf Fugenfüller universal putty allow it to be glued on even bases, as well as to connect various gypsum elements together. Hydro-labeled blends provide an additional option finishing water and fire resistant GKL.

In the list of surfaces that not compatible with these putty materials, there are the following bases:

  • ceramic cladding;
  • stone cladding;

As a rule, before applying the finished solution, the base plane is thoroughly cleaned and then. Work is carried out with spatulas required dimensions made from stainless steel.

How to prepare the working mixture of Knauf Fugenfuller?

At first glance, a simple operation requires some adjustments, which practitioners share:

  • the powder should be poured into a container with water over its entire surface, and slowly (the approximate ratio of parts is 1 kg of the mixture per 0.8 l of liquid;
  • it is best to pour it out not from the trowel, but from the palm of your hand, evenly distributing the mixture over the surface of the water;
  • fall asleep until the level of the powdered composition slightly exceeds the water level;
  • allow the composition to be saturated with moisture for 2-3 minutes;
  • mix the mixture manually (you can use a mixer, but at low speed).

At the beginning of the process of mixing putty under the Knauf Fugen brand, it may seem that the working mass is too liquid, but do not rush and add some more powder.

It is necessary to prepare the solution based on the needs, given that its performance is maintained for 30-40 minutes. "Reanimate" the thickened solution by adding water and stirring will not work. Therefore, it is not necessary to cook Fugenfuller in kilograms, otherwise unjustified expenses cannot be avoided.

German quality is always based on the desire to achieve the desired result, on hard work and love for your work. Trademark Knauf has repeatedly proved to its followers all its power and high-quality approach to business.

One of building mixtures that the Germans can be proud of is the Knauf Fugen putty.

Peculiarities

Gypsum universal putty Knauf Fugen used to have a longer name - Fugenfuller. This is a classic gypsum-based putty, which is firmly entrenched in the world market of dry building mixes.

The main feature of this material is a guarantee of success with any labor costs, provided that the instructions are unconditionally followed:

  • Observe temperature regime room and air humidity. So, in the room where the surface treatment with Knauf Fugen putty will take place, there should be no more than +10 degrees Celsius. And humidity should not exceed the standard indicators of 70-80%.
  • Pre-treat the surfaces with a primer, clean them and dry.
  • Tools for work must always be clean, otherwise the mixture runs the risk of acquiring a heterogeneous structure and, as a result, will not meet your requirements.

It should also be remembered that this type of putty is not suitable for large-scale projects. In order for it to lie evenly, it must be applied in a thin layer, no more than three millimeters.

The gypsum base of the mixture does not allow a large amount of putty to be used for a long time. It dries very quickly, so it is recommended to dilute the mixture in small quantities..

Due to its fine structure, Fugen can be used as a top coat before applying paint, wallpapering, etc. Of course, one layer may not be enough, because, like any other gypsum putty, it will definitely shrink.

Many users note the difficulties they face in the surface treatment of Knauf Fugen. It is advised to resort to less capricious analogues, which are inferior to the German manufacturer not only in price, but also in quality. And, therefore, the end result.

In general, Knauf Fugen putties have positive reviews, but there are also not the most pleasant words addressed to a professional product.

Advantages and disadvantages

Since there are three main types of Knauf Fugen putty, the manufacturer on its official website indicates not only the general advantages of this wonderful material, but also individual ones for each type:

  • Knauf Fugen- for processing the edges of the GKL connection, does not crack after drying, the putty is made from an environmentally friendly, clean natural material- plaster.

  • Knauf Fugen GF- for continuous puttying of GVL, sealing joints and Knauf floor elements. Differs in the high durability and elasticity, lack of cracks on the processed dried-up surface. GV is the same gypsum, but with polymer additives that do not harmful effects on the human body.

  • Knauf Fugen Hydro- moisture-resistant gypsum putty for processing GKLV joints and mounting gypsum boards, the fastening of which is called tongue-and-groove. The product gives minimal shrinkage, does not crack, and is most resistant to moisture, as it contains environmentally friendly polymer and hydrophobic additives.

Even professional mixtures cannot do without minuses and shortcomings. Among the most serious and recurring: fast drying in a mixing container, sanding inconvenience, the possibility of applying only a thin layer.

The versatility of Knauf Fugen putty is at hand only for those who are ready to use it as an additional tool for pre-treatment. As an independent finishing material, it is not suitable enough.

Specifications

Specifications consist in describing the features of dilution and laying putty on the surface:

  • excellent fine-grained structure, which characterizes the material as a solid finish layer. Limit diameter grains - 0.15 mm;
  • the thickness of the layer varies from one to three millimeters, which allows the use of putty as an inconspicuous base;
  • from one kilogram of the dry mixture, one liter of three hundred grams of a solution prepared for use is obtained;
  • the prepared mixture can be used for no more than half an hour until it dries completely in a mixing container;
  • the shelf life of the dry mix is 6 months.

Customer reviews of the technical specifications specified by the manufacturer note that everything is true. Due to the large amount of information and its properties, putty gains credibility in the eyes of both professionals and beginners who have resorted to this method of interior decoration for the first time.

Dry mix packaging is paper bags weighing 5, 10, and 25 kilograms. They must be stored in dry cool rooms, protected from frost, on a wooden substrate. If a bag break is detected, this putty should be used first., but only if it has not accumulated moisture and has not stuck together. Reuse wet putty is impossible.

Instructions for use of Knauf gypsum-based putty explains how to properly dilute and use the mixture with maximum efficiency. It also indicates the approximate consumption of putty, depending on its purpose.

Consumption

First of all, the amount of putty will depend on what work it is planned to perform. And also an important factor is the surface on which Knauf Fugen will be applied. If you just need to close up drywall joints, you need 250 g per one square meter coatings. Continuous puttying of walls with a layer of up to 1 mm may require from 800 g to 1 kg per 1 m2.

Knauf Fugen GF has a slight difference from the previous type of putty in terms of consumption, since the coating thickness here can already increase up to 5 mm:

  • up to 600 grams of the finished mixture can be used to process and cover joints and seams;
  • when applied to a solid wall - you can get by with 1.2 kg or a little more.

Moisture-resistant putty is applied in almost the same way as GF, so the consumption is the same. Knauf Fugen Hydro can have different colors: rarely white, more often gray and even with pink hues. This is due to natural additives in gypsum, which are not reflected in technical parameters putties and do not acquire a pronounced color after application and drying.

The price of Knauf Fugen and GF ranges from 400 rubles per 25 kg bag. Hydro, compared to them, will have a greater cost, due to its waterproofing and moisture resistant properties. The cost of such putty is almost twice as high - up to 1200 rubles. for 25 kilograms of dry mix.

Scope of application

The standard Knauf Fugen gypsum putty mixture is designed to carry out internal works of the following nature:

  • GKL joint processing(Knauf-sheets) with any edges, using paper reinforced tape;
  • as an adhesive for fixing Knauf sheets on a flat surface, as well as for gluing and processing plaster parts;
  • disguise screw heads on the coating;
  • filling connections of concrete structures;
  • alignment and correction of probable defects in wall sheets;
  • as a starting cover on which wallpaper can be glued.

With a mixture of Knauf Fugen GF, it is very convenient to putty GVL and GKL. At the same time, hot water is also used to treat plasterboard walls with visible mechanical damage. It very easily masks all the imperfections of the surface. It is customary to prime drywall before puttying.. This process helps to give the wall the desired shape.

Putty Knauf Fugen Hydro is known for its scope for the treatment of wet rooms. This mixture is the most plastic among its "brothers" from the Fugen line. With its help, you can also give drywall the necessary arched, semicircular shape. without fear of cracking after drying.

The use of Knauf Fugen putty on drywall is advantageous. After all, it not only helps to align the butt joints and can be a starting layer for further decoration walls.

The solution of this putty is very convenient for the installation of gypsum boards. During the mounting process, Fugen is applied to the recess (groove) of the bottom row of plates and to the vertical groove from the end. Gypsum board firmly pressed, the remaining putty residues are removed. Then there is a process similar to laying bricks with cement mortar.

Any ready-made Fugen mixture dries equally quickly both applied to the surface and lying quietly in the container where it was bred. Drying takes no more than 30 minutes, so it is very important to do everything right from the first layer.

Before applying putty on the walls, it is necessary to acquire all the tools necessary for this process, indicated in the official instructions for the mixtures:

  • container for the preparation of putty;
  • metal spatula for mixing;
  • plaster mixer;
  • standard metal spatula (15 cm);
  • wide metal spatula (more than 20 cm);
  • metal spatula for processing corners;
  • mesh abrasive for grinding the dried surface after puttying.

The container for directing the mixture and all tools must be thoroughly washed and free from residual traces of previous mixtures or use new ones. In a contaminated container, fresh putty dries twice as fast, its service life is reduced to 15 minutes.

If unpleasant irregularities remain on the wall, they should be wiped after drying with a special grater. All tools must be made of stainless steel.

To mix the solution of the correct consistency, you should pay attention to the following points:

  1. Pour dry putty (1 kg) into water (0.8 l) slowly, spreading it throughout the volume. This is where manual work is especially important.
  2. As soon as the level of dry putty slightly exceeds the level of water in the container, you need to let the mixture brew. This can take no more than 2-3 minutes.
  3. Start active mixing. In rare cases, you can use a construction mixer, but professionals insist on manual mixing of the mixture.

At first, it may seem that the consistency is too liquid to apply it to the walls. However, after a couple of minutes, the density will noticeably increase, and the solution will become as it should.

Another tip: never dump the remaining grams of finished putty from a spatula into a common container. This reduces the service life of the solution and leads to accelerated drying of the unused putty.

It should be noted that for the initial application, a more liquid putty consistency is suitable to make it easier to apply a thin even layer up to 3 mm. For further use and for repairing irregularities, cracks and other flaws, a mixture that is thicker in its structure is suitable. Then the thickness of the layer will not matter so much.

Very many of those who made repairs on their own and were engaged in leveling ceiling surfaces are familiar with the word "fugenfüller". This is not surprising, since we are talking about one of the most popular putty mixtures.

What is it

This mixture is produced very well-known in the market of construction and finishing materials by Knauf. This composition is presented in the form of a dry mixture based on gypsum, which can be used for a wide variety of tasks. Usually a mixture gray color, but you can also find white compositions. They do not differ in their properties.

Before use, the mixture is diluted with water in the required proportion. The amount of water to be added is always indicated on the packaging. The mixture is packaged in bags weighing 5, 10 and 25 kilograms. Depending on the amount of dry component, it is necessary to add different amounts of water. Do not violate the volumes indicated in the instructions, as this will lead to a deterioration in the properties of the putty.

By type, Fugenfüller Knauf putty produced can be different:

  • Simple Composition Fugenfüller Knauf
  • Fugen GF - drywall mix
  • Mixture for moisture resistant drywall Fugen Hydro

It is better to use each type of putty for its intended purpose, according to the type. Although, in stores, only a simple composition is mainly found, if necessary, you can find other varieties.

Where applicable

The main area of application for any composition labeled Fugen is surface finishing. This putty is not suitable for thorough leveling, but, for finishing, it will be one of the best options. Fugen is one of the most suitable formulations for full puttying of a ceiling or wall made of plasterboard.

The second area where fugenfüller putty is used is gluing GKL to flat surfaces. It must be remembered that the differences on the plane to which gluing is carried out should not exceed 4 millimeters.

Also, this putty composition can be used to seal joints between sheets of drywall. small gaps between concrete slabs can also be sealed with this composition.

It is especially good to repair small cracks and other damage to drywall surfaces with a fugenfüller. If the sheets have rounded edges, then when such parts are joined, a recess appears on the plane. With the help of this putty, they are perfectly sealed. You just need to remember that to seal such irregularities you will need a sickle or reinforcing tape.

In general, Fugenfüller Knauf putty has such technical characteristics that the range of its application is extremely wide. This explains its huge popularity in the finishing work.

Main characteristics

It makes no sense to talk about all the variations of the compositions - they are very similar and are applied in the same way. Only the type of surface on which they are used changes. Therefore, we will consider in detail only the main, simplest composition - the usual fugen.

It should be applied in a layer up to 3 millimeters. If you do more thick layer, putty does not behave too well - there are sagging, grooves and other artifacts. So, for larger leveling work, this mixture is not suitable.

Gypsum, which is used as the basis of the composition, makes it very quick-drying. The life time of the finished solution does not exceed 30 minutes. Depending on the room temperature and humidity, this figure may vary slightly. Therefore, you should not dilute tens of kilograms of the mixture at once - you won’t have time to use it all.

There are no large particles in the composition. The size of the main fraction is 0.15 mm and this makes it possible to obtain very even planes. After puttying, the surface is ready for painting or wallpapering, even without subsequent sanding.

The only thing to consider is that after drying, the surface does not have a uniform color. The color may be uneven, and when painting it matters. It is better to pre-treat the puttied plane with colored primer or paint in several layers.

How to use

Many make the first mistakes at the stage of preparing the mixture for work. The final adhesive properties of the putty depend on how it is prepared. The ingress of air during mixing is undesirable. Because of this, the use of mixers or other mechanical mixing devices is not recommended.

The proportions for dilution with water are indicated on the label of the putty mixture, and the basic rules for use are contained in the instructions for use, which are located on the label of any fugenfüller composition. As a standard, 0.8 liters of water is used per 1 kilogram of the dry component of the mixture.

Pour the dry component into the water carefully and gradually. Do not immediately thump a large amount - the composition will not be saturated with water as it should. After pouring it into a container of water, you need to wait a bit until the entire mixture is saturated with water. Only after that, you can start mixing.

If you stir the composition immediately, it will not have a uniform structure. From this, the fugenfüller putty loses its technical characteristics. You can lose the main advantage of this composition - the absence of cracks after drying.

Mix the solution by hand. The use of a mixer will also affect performance, degrading it. If the volume of the solution is large, and the use of a mixer is necessary, you need to turn on the slowest speed. At first, the solution may seem very liquid, but after a couple of minutes it gains the consistency necessary for work.

Tip: do not remove the remaining putty from the spatula back into the bucket with the solution. This will shorten the life of the putty and render it unusable very quickly.
