Installation of sliding doors in the closet. Marking, adding and adjusting furniture hinges on the cabinet door in examples

The service life of any furniture always depends on the intensity of its operation and the quality of the selected fittings. Furniture cabinets are used by housewives quite often, so the choice of hinges for them is a very responsible task. It will be necessary to figure out what loops are and what determines the choice of one or another type.

Kinds

By bonding method

  1. slide-on. This classic way fastening, in which the fasteners and other fittings required in the assembly of kitchen cabinets are placed in the hole of the plate, on which the fixation is made.
  2. key-hole. In another version, this type of fastening sounds like a "keyhole". At the same time, in order to reach the screw head with the tip of a screwdriver, it must be placed in a special hole in the loop.
  3. clip-on. A fixing method in which fixation on the mounting plate is provided without the use of screws and equipment. Pinning occurs as a result of a click.

Closing method

  1. Ordinary.
  2. With a conductor. This method assumes the presence of a shock-absorbing device. It can be built into a furniture hinge or mounted independently.

According to the size of the loop bowl

The most widely used bowl sizes are 26 and 35mm. It all depends on technological features furniture production and on what kind of furniture needs to be equipped with hinges for cabinets. In some cases, other sizes may be used. At certain types cup loops may not be at all.

By appointment

Main

  • External (overhead). These are the most widely known to assembly professionals. furniture hinges. In the given state of closed sashes, they completely close the opening. One of the quite often used subspecies of such hinges is transformers or inverse ones with an opening angle of up to 180 degrees.
  • Semi-mounted (semi-overhead). They are fastened in those places where adjacent sashes converge and cover the end of the middle wall in half.
  • Internal (deposit). Such door hinges should be chosen when the door leaves are recessed relative to the facade line.

Additional

  • Corner. As a rule, they are used for hanging doors of hanging pieces of furniture (for corner cabinets). These hinges most often differ in the opening angles of the doors. Such an angle has not only a numerical value, but also a certain shape, be sharp or obtuse.
  • Direct (adit). They are hung if it is necessary to fix the door on a non-moving base (false panels). They are usually distributed in corner cabinets and boxes for sinks.
  • Carousel. These varieties of loops are sometimes found under the names crocodile and crab. Their main purpose is to fasten moving furniture elements.

For other structural parts

  • Framework.
  • Installed without the use of a drill. Such hinges are useful if the thickness of the door is insufficient for installing cup hinges. Negative side in the installation of this fitting is that the regulation of the position of the doors is possible only in one plane (up-down or farther-closer).
  • Spring. As a rule, they are chosen as a secondary option when the installation of other fittings is not possible.
  • For glasses. The special design allows the hinges to be attached to the glass sash. As a rule, such hinges are equipped with soft plastic parts.

Installation of fasteners

On a wooden door

Wooden doors can cover both wall and base cabinets. The basic algorithm for sequential actions when installing loops for hanging comes down to the following steps:

  1. Determine the position of the hinges on the door. For this, an indent of approximately 80-150 mm is taken from each edge of the door. The distance in this case depends on the height of the door panel;

Marking is carried out in selected places. To do this, the loop is applied to the canvas and with the help of a pencil an outline of the intended position of the loop is made. For installation, it is better to use a special template that allows you to quickly and accurately apply markup;

  1. Then, using a milling machine and the selected nozzle, the place for the cup is drilled. For drilling, it is recommended to choose a tool with excellent sharpening. It is important to observe the position of the cutter and the depth of the niche. Bowl Depth Standard for furniture hinges is 12-13mm.
  2. The loop is inserted into the niche and aligned horizontally. The mechanism is fixed in this position and places for fasteners are marked;
  3. Holes are drilled for fasteners so that it can be inserted into the cabinet;
  4. The device is attached to the door;
  5. Marking is carried out for attaching mounting plates to the cabinet body. To do this, the door is installed in the required location and leveled, getting rid of repainting and shifts. On the body of the cabinet, a place is marked for attaching the slats.
  6. Perform drilling of marked holes;
  7. Produce the installation of the reciprocal bar;
  8. Connect both parts of the loop.

For glass doors

Glass sashes are preferably hung on the cabinet top row. Glass, as a more fragile material, requires a special approach to installing hinges. As part of the accessories there is a certain list of mandatory elements:

  • mounting plate attached to the sidewall;
  • mounting bracket;
  • a sealing ring, which is necessary to secure the fittings and the glass door;
  • a cap or decorative overlay, which is almost always installed in order to hide the visible parts of the fittings from the front side.

There is a certain method for mounting fasteners on a glass door:

  1. In order to correctly install or replace the hinges, you need to select the area for marking. markup glass door produced similarly to wood;
  2. Using a drill, the loop is attached to wooden frame closet. For this purpose, holes for fasteners are drilled, and the loop is fixed with a screwdriver or screwdriver;
  3. The hinge is attached to the glass sash using clips. The glass sheet is placed in a loop. On both sides between the glass and the hinge are placed rubber gaskets that protect the glass from damage. The hinge is fixed with bolts.

Hanging facades, installing furniture hinges on them and adjusting them is the final stage of assembling cabinet furniture with your own hands. It depends on how smoothly the hinged doors of the cabinets can be adjusted, whether the furniture will delight with its aesthetic neat appearance. Or annoy with an unevenly exposed front part and a constant creak that accompanies the process of opening and closing.

Rules for installing furniture hinges

As in the article about, we will consider the installation of four-hinged fasteners, with three degrees of adjustment.

The four-hinged hinge consists of two detachable parts:

  • The mounting (mounting) bar is attached to the body. At the same time, there is a difference in the markup for internal (inset) and overhead loops.
  • The hinge itself is fixed on the facade by installing it in a special technological hole. The depth of the hole is about 12-13 mm, the diameter depends on the size of the bowl. Mostly used accessories with a bowl diameter of 35 mm, less often - 26 mm.

Proper installation of furniture hinges with your own hands involves a preliminary calculation the right amount, depending on the height and width of the door, its weight.

Hinges with a quantity of three or more per one hinged door are distributed at an equal distance from each other, while you need to follow the markup so that the mounting plate does not “hit” the shelf.

100 mm usually recede from the edge of the facade along the body. Since the door is always 3-4 mm smaller, for the overhead version, the indent to the center of the hole for the bowl is about 98 mm.

Scheme for calculating the number of furniture hinges for installation

There is no unambiguously clear answer to the question of how many hinges are required to be installed on one hinged facade. Each manufacturer of fittings and components gives its own recommendations. Usually, the scheme for calculating the number of furniture hinges is based on two values, the size and weight of the door:

  • The height of the door determines the number of connection points with the box. With an insufficient number of hinges, the door may bend over time. Its width is no less important. It is recommended not to design façades that are too wide in relation to their height.
  • The weight of the door also plays a role. It is logical to assume that a facade made of laminated chipboard, on top of which a mirror sheet will still be glued, will require additional fasteners. Setting the standard number of furniture hinges may not be able to support the increased weight - reinforcement will be required here.

The standard scheme for installing furniture hinges is as follows.

It can be followed if there are no other recommendations from the manufacturer.

Installation of overhead furniture hinges with markings

Before installation, it will not be superfluous to make a markup so as not to make a mistake when drilling, fastening the mounting plate and bowl. You can use ready template(conductor) or measure manually. We take into account the following nuances:

  • The overlay facade does not completely close the box. Taking into account the gap, for example, for a kitchen cabinet 720 mm high and 400 mm wide, it will have dimensions of 716x396 mm. And this means that if 100 mm indent from the edge along the box for installing the mounting plate, then the indent along the facade will be less, equal to 98 mm.
  • Under the four-hinged hinge on the door, a hole 11 mm deep is selected. This can be done using a Forster drill with a cutting edge and a spout designed specifically for installing furniture hinges (diameter 26 or 35 mm). Special ones have a limiter that will prevent the front part from being pierced through during milling. Provided, of course, that the thickness of the facade is not less than 16 mm.
  • The mounting plate fastening depth from the edge of the sidewall of the cabinet when installing the overhead furniture hinge is 37 mm. The distance between the holes at the bar is 32 mm.

Installation of inset (internal) furniture hinges

The only difference when installing an inset furniture hinge is the fastening of the mounting plate on the side of the cabinet. With a standard thickness of a facade made of laminated chipboard (16 mm), 54 mm recede from the edge (the thickness of the facade sheet and 1-2 mm for free play are added to the prescribed 37 mm, for adjustment).

Do-it-yourself furniture hinge adjustment

According to the scheme for installing furniture hinges, a mounting plate is separately attached to two 3x16 mm self-tapping screws and a bowl (also to two self-tapping screws), on the sidewall of the box and with inside doors respectively. After the furniture is placed in the allotted place, they begin to hang the facades. To do this, the hinge arm with the bowl is threaded into the mounting plate and tightened onto the fixing screw. It is not worth tightening the fasteners strongly near the bar - all of it is involved in the process of adjusting the furniture hinge with your own hands.

If the floors are littered to the center, then most likely the doors will not be tightly pressed against the box. Adjusting the furniture hinge in depth allows you to pull them tighter or, conversely, loosen the clamp.

For uneven floors, lateral adjustment (horizontal) in combination with vertical adjustment can be useful. With its help, you can align the gaps on double facades, more evenly set them relative to the box.

Also, the adjustment “removes” unpleasant squeaks when opening and closing. It is worth tightening the screws on the hinges from time to time - furniture doors inevitably sag under their own weight. Timely adjustment will extend the life of the mounting hardware.

It is often necessary to change the facade on a wardrobe or sideboard. How to hang cabinet doors at home? How to do it right? To answer these questions, consider the options for existing furniture doors. They are of the following types:

  • swing;
  • coupe.

Each type has its own requirements when hanging on the frame. The most common type is swing doors on the closet. Consider the types of elements holding them:

  • inset loops - have a facade from the side of the holding loops. The end of the sidewall of the frame is clearly visible;
  • completely overhead - the facade is located on the side of the hinges and is superimposed on the end of the side part;
  • corner joints - in relation to the holding unit, the facade is installed at an angle of 90 to 135 °;
  • overhead partially - allow you to install two facades on one partition. They close the ends usually half of the sidewall.

Let's move on to the installation of swing doors. To do this, we measure the width and height of each opening and the main frame, check the levels of the roof, sidewalls and floor shield. We also measure the thickness of the cabinet walls. It happens that distortions form over time. To compensate for them, use overhead loops - they are easily adjustable.

When installing facades on them, make sure that the depth of all structural elements of the cabinet (shelves, sides, partitions) is the same.

In order to properly install the cabinet doors on the inset hinges, it is necessary to drown their inner part to the thickness of the facade (16-30 mm).

If you need to hang the doors on the part of the product where there are drawers, then please note: on the hinge side, part of the opening is always blocked by the ends of the facades by 2 mm, and this circumstance may interfere with the normal extension of the drawers.

In order for the doors to function normally, it is necessary to leave a gap of 2.5-3 mm along the contour of each facade.

The hinges are installed in this order:

  • they are applied to the place of future fixing and holes are marked, they are drilled to a depth of 20-30 mm into the end of the sidewall;
  • the same operation is performed on the product door;
  • screw the halves of the hinges with furniture screws, respectively, to the sidewall and the facade;
  • hang the door.

Coupe fronts

To install such nodes in the frame of the product, it is necessary that the following condition is met: the shelves and inner drawers of the cabinet must be shorter (in depth) than the external elements of the product (sidewall) by 10-12 cm.

When installing compartment doors, pay attention to the presence of a dead zone at the intersection of frames in 2-3 door options. On hit drawers in such places they lose their functionality - they are simply clamped.

Materials and tools

  1. Loops furniture overhead.
  2. Drill with drills.
  3. Roulette, ruler, pencil.
  4. Screwdriver, screws.

If you need to hang the doors on the furniture with your own hands, then follow all the above recommendations, and then errors and miscalculations will be minimized.

For fastening and further exploitation doors to furniture production use different types loops. If you bought a wardrobe and decided to assemble it yourself, then you cannot avoid the process of installing doors on furniture hinges.

Figure 1. Furniture hinge device

On the modern market furniture are presented different kinds door hinges, which include both four-hinged hinges and simply hinged ones, which were very popular back in Soviet times. Today, four-hinged hinges are very popular, which are simple and robust design as well as easy installation. They possess high level durability, which provides an unlimited number of working cycles of opening and closing. Another significant advantage of this mechanism is the ability to adjust it in 3 planes, which will allow you to align the cabinet doors without any problems.

The four-hinged loop consists of the following elements (Fig. 1):

  • Cup;
  • shoulder;
  • mounting (reciprocal) level.

The hinge is fixed to the furniture box mounting plate, and a cup - to the door. Self-tapping screws are used as fasteners. The shoulder plays the role of a lever and connects the cup to the striker plate using a four-hinged device. An adjusting screw is located in the cover of the bar, with which you can adjust the position of the door relative to the base.

According to the method of applying the sash to the body, the hinges are divided into:

  1. Overhead. They are used when the door closes the sides of the niche in which it is placed. This method of fastening doors is the most popular, so it can be found on almost any furniture set.
  2. Semi overhead. Used when on the same sidewall furniture product 2 doors open. Hinges of this type differ from the rest by a slight bend in the base, which provides a small distance between the two facades.
  3. Internal. They are used in the case of internal fastening of the facade, that is, the door does not close the sides of the niche in which it is located, but is located inside it. The base of such hinges has a pronounced bend.
  4. Corner. With the help of such mechanisms, it is possible to fix the doors at a certain angle.

Preparatory work

To install a furniture hinge on a cabinet with your own hands, you need to prepare tools such as:

Figure 2. Marking the loop

  • screwdriver;
  • end mill with a diameter of 35 mm;
  • ruler;
  • building level;
  • awl;
  • pencil;
  • self-tapping screws - 3.5x16 or 4x16 mm, 2 pcs. for 1 loop.

After preparing the tool, marking is made, which consists in marking the center of each hole for the hinges. Depending on the height of the door, as well as on the placement of the shelves in height, about 7-12 cm recede from the edge of the facade. If the door has large dimensions, then it is necessary to use not 2 hinges, but 3 or more. In this case, the step between the canopies should be at least 50 cm. The dependence of the number of loops on the height and weight of the facade is presented in the table.

After marking in height, the centers of the holes are marked from the edges in width. For a standard door hinge, the distance from the edge should be approximately 21-22 mm (Fig. 2). When marking, it is necessary to ensure that after mounting the hinges they do not come into contact with the shelves of the cabinet, because this will interfere with the normal functioning of the door.

in a spacious or small apartment there are always cabinets, lockers, bedside tables that provide places for organizing and securely storing clothes, dishes, books, and other necessary things behind a closed facade. That is why cabinet doors perform one of the most important design functions.

Today it is proposed to use various methods of fastening traditional swing doors, as well as sliding ones, which are installed mainly in wardrobes. You can install any doors in the closet with your own hands if you familiarize yourself with the mechanisms of their action and follow the detailed instructions.

Installation of a hinged facade on furniture hinges

Today there are the following types of door hinges:

  • articulated;
  • four-hinged (overhead, semi-overhead or inset);
  • products for glass structures;
  • corner;
  • inverse.

How to mount a hinged door leaf

Before you install the hinges on the door and the cabinet wall, you need to take into account the material used to make the furniture, as well as determine how many door hinges you need. The number of products used depends on the size of the door and its weight. For example, with a facade height of about 1500-2000 cm, which weighs up to 13 kg, 3 loops will be needed.

Get ready for work

You should pick up the following tools with which you can hang swing doors in the closet with your own hands. Prepare:

  • an electric drill and a drill corresponding to the diameter of the fixing screw;
  • milling machine, a nozzle of equal diameter;
  • tape measure, pencil for marking;
  • building level;
  • screwed a regular screwdriver, suitable size to fasteners.

Procedure

  1. Mark the location on the door to install the hinges. The distance between the loops depends on the height of the canvas, and 8-15 cm should be measured from the edge.
  2. Attach the hinge to the door and use a pencil to mark the place for the fixture cup.
  3. Drill niches for the cup using a router with a nozzle. Use the sharpest tool, drilling to a depth of 13 mm.
  4. Insert the loop inside the finished recess, align the fixture horizontally. Mark the places for preparing the holes for the fasteners.
  5. Drill holes for fasteners.
  6. Attach the hinge to the door surface.
  7. Attach the door to the cabinet body with your own hands, align the position of the canvas, mark the cabinets where the striker should be installed.
  8. Drill the cabinet at the marked points.
  9. Install the striker on the screws.
  10. Connect both parts of the loops.
  11. Use a screwdriver to adjust the correct position of the hinge.

Sliding wardrobe panels

The sliding wardrobe for today is the most popular furniture. This is facilitated by the ability to rationally use living space. Often the closet occupies the entire space from floor to ceiling, has a large capacity and, when using a sliding door, does not interfere with movement near it at all.

In order for such storage furniture to serve for a long time and without fail, it is important to correctly assemble the entire structure. The main role belongs to the flawless installation of sliding facades. Accurately fulfilling the requirements and recommendations of specialists, a person with the skills to use special tools can install the cabinet door system with his own hands.

What do you need to work

Before you start installing the door with your own hands, check for necessary components for sliding system into the cupboard. In addition to the facades themselves, the following should be prepared:

  • Bottom and top rails or guide profiles. These are the main parts that ensure the movement of the door leaf.
  • Movement limiters and stoppers. Details that help the door move smoothly along the guide rail and stop movement at a certain point.
  • Closers - mechanisms that provide sliding door panel.
  • Facade system accessories. For example, seals, screws, rollers, etc.

Prepare the tools:

  • electric drill;
  • drill for metal with a diameter of 4 mm;
  • set of straight and cross-shaped screwdrivers;
  • spirit building level;
  • imbus key;
  • a plumb line on a cord;
  • sandpaper;
  • pliers;
  • hammer;
  • stationery knife;
  • roulette.

Carefully familiarize yourself with the main structural elements of the sliding wardrobe door and their location.

Step-by-step instruction

Do-it-yourself installation of sliding facades can only be started after the installation of the wardrobe itself has been completed. The doors of the structure must be set according to the level. When performing work, be extremely careful and careful, as components can be easily damaged.

  1. As accurately as possible, measure the width of the cabinet opening at the top. The upper guide rail will be mounted there. From the value obtained, you need to subtract 1-2 mm.
  2. Use a construction ruler (square) to exactly perpendicularly mark the cut line according to the size obtained. Cut the profile using a grinder or a hacksaw.
  3. We prepare mounting holes for self-tapping screws. Along the entire length of the guide profile at regular intervals of about 40-60 cm, mark the holes for the screws, they should be located on the same line.
  4. In order not to damage the profile during drilling, use a chair, table, etc. as a support. Drill holes, then sand the edges sandpaper.
  5. Install the ready-made guide profile in the upper opening of the wardrobe. Use screws or self-tapping screws for this.
  6. Cut the lower profile in the same way as the upper one. Mark holes for mounting, then drill and sand the edges of the cuts.
  7. Install a stopper at both ends of the profile rail. The device is designed to fix the state of the door leaf of the cabinet in the closed position. In order for the latch to function correctly, it must be inserted: in the right canvas - in the recess on the right, in the left canvas - in the recess on the left.

  1. We check the correct position of the profile with a plumb line.
  2. Installation of the door on the profiles in the wardrobe. Alignment of the position of the facade canvas.

The sliding system used involves the use of special rollers that are placed on both sides of the facade (top and bottom). The upper elements are stationary, they fix the door leaf. The lower rollers perform the function of workers - the door moves along them.

  1. Using your own hands, carefully insert the upper rollers into a special place in the upper profile, and the lower wheels into the groove of the lower profile rail. The diagram clearly illustrates the places and methods of installation.
  2. The sliding wardrobe doors are installed, it's time to adjust their position. For this, there are special wheels that are located on both sides of each door leaf. Cabinet doors must be in the closed position for proper balance adjustment.

In some systems, when adjusting door panels tighten the adjusting screw located at the top of the lower roller. This can be done with a Phillips screwdriver or a hexagon. If the adjustment is done correctly, the doors fit snugly in the open and closed position to the planes of the cabinet, gently glide along the rails without creaking or rubbing.

  1. At this stage, screw the lower guide rail to the end of the bottom of the wardrobe with self-tapping screws. Perform final installation when you are 100% sure that the door fronts are in the correct working position (vertical and parallel).
  2. Stick special rubber pads on the side ends of each door. This will help dampen the force of impacts that occur when opening/closing the door.
  3. Pay attention to adjusting the position of the stoppers. The parts are adjusted in such a way that the door remains closed while the lower rollers hit them.
  4. New rails are supplied from stock coated with a special protective film. This protects the surface of the components from damage and scratching during shipping and installation work. When the work is already behind, the film with aluminum profile can be removed.

System build process sliding doors with your own hands can not be called easy. But an attentive and accurate master will do all the work correctly, and the cabinet will last for many years.
