How beautiful to equip the slope of the front door. How to finish the slopes of the front door: different options

The entrance to any dwelling is always considered the face of the owners. After all, as you know, they judge a person by the decoration of his house and the space at the entrance is the first thing that guests pay attention to. Also, the door is designed to protect against uninvited guests and should be on the outside so that vandals find it “too tough”, but from the inside it completely fits into the interior of the apartment.

The installation of the frame and door leaf can be entrusted to professional installers, but we will talk about how to finish the front door from the inside with our own hands in this publication, also touching on the issue of exterior decoration.

Types of doors and types of finishing materials

There are two most common types of doors:

  • metal;
  • Wooden.

Nowadays, metal is the basis in almost all door frames and canvases, and the rest of the material is already part of the decor and decoration. Each homeowner himself determines which one is more suitable for his house or apartment. All models differ in cost, which is also not unimportant when choosing.

You can buy with plastic sheathing inexpensively and much more expensive from thick metal. For example, the Chinese models of the master are called tin cans, since the metal in them is so thin that it can be cut with a can opener. But the cost of these models is significantly different from branded doors.

Tip: when buying a door, it is worth remembering that for an apartment and for a country house it is better to choose the most durable type of doorway with strong locks and an anti-vandal coating on the outside.

Common finishing materials

The most popular among finishing materials for interior and exterior doors are:

  • The tree, which you can not talk about, everything is clear. Wood is easy to cut and any pattern can be created. Expensive types of wood look solid, and your door will not only look beautiful, but also perform a protective function.
  • Viniplast is a fiberboard material in a two-layer sandwich with a protective PVC film. This finish is easily scratched and has one big plus - a variety of colors.

It is perfect for interior decoration, and if the question arose of how to finish the front door from the outside, then it is better to opt for other materials, since vinyl plastic will quickly lose its “marketable” appearance. But for interior decoration, this material is ideal.

  • The third type of finishing material is laminate. It can be easily used for both indoor and outdoor.
  • Also, from the inside, the door leaf is often sheathed with leather or eco-leather, which also looks good and is much cheaper than other materials.
  • Metal doors can simply be painted or powder coated. True, for its application will have to invite specialists.

Tip: when choosing a material for interior or exterior decoration, do not forget not only the aesthetic side of the issue, but also the strength of the material. For outdoor and indoor decor, cardinally opposite materials in their composition should be purchased.

But later you will be proud of your work, and brag to your friends and guests about the new door, which was old yesterday.

The video in this article has a lot of interesting things about the issue of finishing doors with various materials, so we recommend that you take a look. Perhaps tomorrow you will already become a door master and take orders for home delivery. Good luck in your endeavors!

The front door is the face of any building. The appearance of the entire structure depends on how well it is made and installed. Today the most popular are entrance iron doors. They are reliable, durable, do not require complex maintenance. You can purchase models of a simple design or with glass inserts, various decorative elements. Whichever door you choose, the finishing of the doorway must also be done soundly and beautifully, because the general appearance of the door structure depends on it. A professional master will help bring the doorway back to normal. But self-finishing the doorway after installing the iron door will save you money.

What can slopes be made of?

Slopes are internal and external, depending on their location relative to the room. When finishing them, two tasks are solved: aesthetic and thermal insulation. To do this, you need to choose the right material.

MDF panels

Today, for this type of work, MDF panels are most often chosen, which have proven themselves in bathroom renovation. This wood fiber material is of several types.

  1. Veneered - a material ideal for finishing a doorway, it is particularly strong and durable compared to other types of panels.
  2. Laminated - moisture resistant material, which has a slightly lower strength than veneered MDF. But it is very attractive in appearance: it has a rich color palette, there are also panels that imitate the texture of natural wood. Such MDF is also great for finishing a doorway after installing a metal front door.
  3. Painted is a material whose surface has the least strength. It is not suitable for this type of work.

We make slopes from MDF with our own hands

We make slopes from MDF panels

If you decide to decorate the doorway with MDF panels yourself, then you will need the following materials and tools:

  • MDF panels (3 pcs.);
  • platbands (3 pcs.);
  • decorative bending corner (3 pcs.);
  • decorative rail (3 pcs.);
  • guides (rails with a thickness of 10 mm and a width of 30 mm, the total length of the rails is approximately 9 m);
  • self-tapping screws (length - 35 mm), approximately 30 pcs.;
  • dowels (diameter - 6 mm), about 30 pieces;
  • liquid Nails;
  • cement mortar;
  • mounting foam;
  • jigsaw;
  • mounting knife;
  • chisel;
  • brace;
  • bit;
  • roulette;
  • pencil.

For high-quality performance of work on finishing the doorway, the following rules must be observed:

  • slopes should be placed approximately 1.5-2 cm below the level of the box;
  • the distance between the outer slopes should be greater than the distance between the inner ones;
  • For the correct installation of the door and obtaining even slopes, it is necessary to accurately measure the dimensions of the doorway.

Stages of finishing the doorway

  1. Filling cracks with cement

    First, inspect the slopes, seal large gaps and holes with cement mortar or putty (if small), remove protruding old cement mortar, old whitewash or paint; seal the gaps between the wall and the door structure with mounting foam, after it has hardened, cut off the excess with a knife.

  2. Treat the surface of the slopes with a primer: this is necessary for better adhesion of the plaster to the wall.
  3. Align the slopes with plaster or cement mortar, for this use a system of beacons (metal profiles fixed to the wall with dowels). The plaster consists of cement, sand, lime mortar. You can purchase a ready-made plaster solution intended for facade work.

  4. fastening of external corners with a mounting profile

    Reinforce the outer corners of the slopes with a mounting profile. It must be carefully pressed into fresh plaster. The base for the slopes is ready. Let it dry completely.

  5. Carefully measure the dimensions of the slopes, pay special attention to the corners, so that later you can avoid inconsistencies when installing the panels. From the MDF panels, cut out two side and one top parts of the desired size.
  6. Cover the entire upper surface of the slope with special glue, press the MDF panel to it. Hold it tightly until the glue is completely seized.
  7. In the same way, you need to fix the side panels. Experts recommend using spacers for reliable and high-quality fixation.

  8. installation of MDF panels on slopes

    Close the gaps formed between the panels and the wall with a decorative plastic corner, which is glued with liquid nails.

  9. Trim the outer edge of the slopes with a decorative corner or nail the cash.

If you do not pre-align the slopes, then you can fill them with guide strips, to which you can attach MDF panels with self-tapping screws. The whole process is only slightly different from finishing the slopes on the windows.

Decorative rock

Doorways after installing the iron door can be trimmed with decorative stone. This finish is done with or without embroidery. In the first case, texture materials are used, in the second - slate or pebbles. The process is simple, but requires certain knowledge and skills. To finish with a decorative stone, you will need a spatula, a rubber hammer, a bucket for cement mortar, a grinder with a concrete nozzle.

PVC panels

Often the internal slopes are trimmed with plastic. This is an inexpensive material that does not require specific maintenance, easy to install. PVC panels also have a rich color palette, so you can choose the finish of the color you need.

A popular option is panels with imitation of the texture of fabric or wood.

They fix the plastic on a wooden crate or fix it on the plaster with special glue. The disadvantages of this material include its fragility: as a result of inaccurate use, plastic can be easily damaged (for example, if you bring something bulky, with corners through the door and hook plastic slopes, then a hole or hole may remain on them, which cannot be repaired with anything ).

Cement screed or plaster

plastering door frames

One of the simplest types of finishing of internal and external slopes is cement screed or plastering. A mortar or plaster solution prepared from cement, sand and water is applied with a trowel to the doorway, level it, remove all roughness and smudges. If you decide to plaster the slopes or cover them with cement mortar, then you need to set up beacons: this way the material will lay down in the most qualitative way. As beacons, you can use flat slats made of wood or special metal profiles. They are fixed with alabaster clearly vertically. After the beacons harden, the gaps between them and the walls are filled with cement mortar or plaster. A spatula is used to level it. Such a screed needs several days to dry. After that, the surface of the slopes can be painted with an acrylic-based facade paint in a suitable color. The door with such slopes looks neat. It is completely protected from moisture and cold. Subsequently, such a surface can be decorated with any finishing material. But it is quite difficult to evenly cover the slopes with a screed or plaster, and such work takes a lot of time. To make plasterboard slopes, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • wall drywall;
  • glue for work with drywall;
  • dowels 6 * 60 ("fungus" with a screw);
  • plastic profile (starting, guide);
  • self-tapping screws for metal;
  • drywall knife (you can use a regular clerical knife);
  • roulette;
  • construction level short;
  • screwdriver;
  • perforator;
  • hammer;
  • putty knife;
  • container for plaster solution.

Stages of finishing slopes with drywall

  1. Remove excess mounting foam with a spatula or knife.
  2. Using a perforator with a concrete drill, make holes around the entire perimeter of the slopes (every 20 cm). Drive dowels into them. Do not screw in the screws all the way: they will improve the adhesion of the drywall to the slope surface.
  3. With a tape measure, measure the dimensions of the starting profile on all three sides of the doorway. At the top of the slope, the guide is usually made to the width of the entire opening: the side sheets of drywall will rest against it. Fix the rail segments with self-tapping screws. Its short side should be located inside the slope, and the long side should be outside.
  4. Cut three strips of drywall to match the dimensions of the slope. The width of the upper slope and the width of the opening must match. To make the edge of the drywall strip smooth, attach to the drawn line when cutting, for example, an aluminum rule or a piece of profile. Cut through the top layer of paper first. Then, on the reverse side of the sheet, tap the slot. When the plaster breaks, cut through a piece of paper on the other side from the edge to the center.
  5. Mix drywall adhesive according to package directions. Stir it with a spatula until the lumps disappear.
  6. Glue the dowel attachment points and the back of the drywall strips with glue.
  7. Insert the edge of the drywall strip into the top starting guide and press firmly against the concrete. Check the evenness of the slope with a building level. Use spacers to securely hold the drywall in place until the adhesive has set (several hours).
  8. Do the same work with the side strips of drywall. Get rid of excess glue, otherwise the drywall will bend. Tap the slope surface through drywall scraps.
  9. Do not forget to constantly check the evenness of the slope with a level.
  10. After 12 hours, drywall constructions can be puttied and painted in the appropriate color.

We considered several options for finishing the doorway after installing the iron door. We hope that our tips will help you quickly and efficiently make slopes for your home.

The first thing to do after installing the entrance door block is to tidy up the slopes for the entrance doors. Such is the technology of mounting the door frame that even with the most careful handling of the opening and the frame, it is practically impossible to avoid updating the finishing of the front door jambs inside the apartment. If a replacement was made with a steel structure, then it is impossible to avoid repairing the door slopes after installing the iron door. Therefore, the problem of finishing the space around the entrance block has to be solved long before the start of work.

Varieties of door slopes on the front door

There are several ways to put a door block at the entrance to a house or apartment. Depending on the size and design of the front door, the device, shape and size of the slope zone changes:

  • Standard option. The entrance door with a supporting frame is taken out and installed along the outer plane of the main wall. In this case, the finishing of the slopes of the front door is carried out from the inside of the apartment;
  • The reverse version, the front door with the frame is mounted on the inner surface of the wall. In this embodiment, the slopes are located outside the door block, but finishing the jambs of the front door is still necessary to preserve the appearance and protect the walls;
  • The most difficult option. In this case, the door vestibule and the adjacent space are expanded to the size of the corridor wall.

For your information! The latter option more than doubles the area of the door slopes on the entrance doors, the amount of work increases, but, according to the designers, it is this method of building a “tunnel” that is most convenient for small hallways and lobbies.

External slopes are usually simply plastered and painted to match the color of the front door. This is part of the external space, so most apartment owners do not attach much importance to their decoration. The main thing is that the ends of the walls are protected and the appearance is more or less ennobled. While there are many finishing options for the internal slopes of the front door, one is more interesting than the other.

How to make slopes of the front door with your own hands

There are several ways to decorate the jambs. The specific version depends on the thickness of the walls, the dimensions of the front door and the method of its installation.

If a mounting groove or perimeter was cut to install the door frame, then the front door carrier frame is installed in the doorway with a minimum excess above the rough surface of the walls. Most often, this situation occurs when repairing door slopes after installing an iron door.

Masters do not really like to work with a puncher, therefore, instead of fully cutting and expanding the opening for installing a larger metal front door, they prefer to make only a mounting groove.

In this case, the slopes are formed by cutting and grinding the concrete of the load-bearing walls. The most time-consuming option, with minimal cost and low decorative effect.

Important! Polished door slopes on the front door are not recommended for private houses and apartments with an entrance door leading to the street. In this case, the formation of cold bridges and dampening of whitewash or paint is possible.

A more rational option would be to install slopes on the front door using an intermediate finishing layer with a thickness of at least 4 mm. If the wall is too thin, such as framed or prefabricated, then it may be necessary to insulate the slope surface before proceeding with the laying of decorative trim.

In this case, in order to successfully mount the slopes on the front door with your own hands, you will need to increase the dimensions of the doorway by at least 2 cm in width and height. The specific size of the expansion is selected based on the material and method of arranging the jamb.

How to install slopes on the front door

The most difficult question is to choose the right way to lay decorative finishes.

Material on the surface of the walls of the vestibule can be laid in several ways:

  • Stick on the walls when using roll or fabric coverings;
  • Lay on a polyurethane foam base;
  • Mount on a supporting frame assembled from rails or a mounting profile;
  • Plaster or apply a decorative coating such as liquid wallpaper.

Of course, the above methods can and should be combined with each other, for example, for painting or sticking a soft decorative coating, you will need at least a primer and surface leveling in order to get rid of base defects.

Often, the preparation and alignment of the opening and vestibule takes more time than the actual finishing of the door slopes after the installation of the front door. For example, installing a reinforced steel frame under a heavy door leaf involves gating a whole pattern of strips and grooves, 15-20 cm wide. This is a lot, then you have to close the cut material on the slopes and lay it with mortar.

How to finish the slopes of the front door inside the apartment

An equally important condition is the correct selection of decor, which is planned to be used to decorate the surface of the jambs. First of all, the interior and decoration of the corridor or hallway are taken into account. For example, if a lot of materials that imitate a wood pattern are used in the design of a room, then building the slopes of the front door from a laminate can be a good option.

Entrance door slope plastering

Making and decorating jambs with cement-lime and gypsum mortars is considered the easiest and most affordable way to level the uneven end surface of the walls.

First of all, an insulating layer is laid, usually a solution with the addition of an acrylic primer. Decorative layers are made of gypsum plaster. After grouting and grinding, the plaster is painted with white or colored water-based paint.

Finishing the slopes of the entrance door MDF

Pressed cellulose web paneling will fit perfectly into the design of the slopes if the entrance doors are decorated with the same material. The MDF coating retains heat well, is not afraid of direct contact with moisture.

Before laying the panels, the surface of the walls is primed with acrylic paint, after which it is necessary to assemble the frame from wooden slats 15-20 mm thick.

Important! The thickness of the rails is selected taking into account the height of the future surface of the slopes, so that the lining does not extend beyond the edge of the doorway.

The panels themselves are stacked on the frame using steel brackets and self-tapping screws. After the assembly process is completed, a solid surface is obtained, divided by joint lines.

Finishing door slopes with laminate

This method of finishing the vestibule walls is somewhat different from the use of conventional materials, primarily in that the laminate is not intended for laying on vertical surfaces.

Therefore, to finish the jambs with laminate panels, the supporting frame must be sewn on. Without crates, the lining of the vestibule will sag and block the front door.

In order to fix the laminate on the walls, use mounting foam or acrylic-based adhesive. After laying, the laminate must be fixed mechanically. It is best to install the spacers at night while the front door is not in use. If this is not done, then the expanded mounting foam can tear off the lining from the surface of the slopes.

The use of polyurethane foam for fixing slopes will provide two very important advantages:

  • High fastening strength;
  • Good sound insulation and additional insulation of the vestibule.

If the entrance doors go straight to the street, then facing with a laminate on polyurethane foam will eliminate most of the problems associated with installing a door block with a metal base.

PVC panel decor

Facing slopes with PVC lining is used quite rarely, firstly, the type of plastic itself is inferior to wood, MDF and even drywall in terms of decorative qualities, and secondly, it is not recommended to install PVC at the entrance to the room for fire reasons.

The installation technology of PVC - slopes is similar to facing the walls of a bathroom or kitchen ceiling.

Finishing the slopes of the front door from the inside with a decorative stone

The popularity of artificial material made of polyurethane, similar in color, texture, shape and size to crushed rubble or granite, is growing every year. This lightweight and durable plastic decor can be installed on slope walls using a metal profile or stud screws screwed into the wall surface.

Decorative stone is most often glued to primed slope walls using polystyrene dissolved in a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons. Usually, the lower parts of the jambs and walls are sealed with a fake buta.

Finishing the slopes of the front door with decorative stone allows you to protect the most vulnerable part of the front door vestibule, it is the lower sphere that most often gets dirty and damaged by careless touch, shoes, hand luggage, umbrellas and bags.

Finishing door slopes with wallpaper

This method is used mainly for apartments or any other housing, the entrance doors of which open into the foyer, lobby or landing. Previously, the surface and corners of the jambs are plastered or leveled with a gypsum primer to make the vestibule walls as flat and even as possible.

The use of wallpaper for decorating slopes is no different from the process of pasting the walls of residential premises with tapestries. The only condition is the use of wallpaper glue with increased adhesion.

Advice! It is best to glue wallpaper on an aqueous PVA emulsion, but it will be very difficult to remove them from slopes in the future.

Once the wall is primed, dried, the second pass is pasted wallpaper. In the space in front of the entrance doors there are always drafts and areas with high humidity and temperature changes. So on the usual "Metilan" wallpaper on the slopes simply will not hold.

Tiling

The use of tile materials is the most time-consuming option for finishing work. In theory, tiles can be laid directly on a plastered surface with a good tile adhesive. In fact, the slope zone constantly experiences vibrations and shock loads when the front door is carelessly closed. One has only to slam the heavy entrance sash a couple of times, as the lining will begin to peel off.

Therefore, the tiles are laid either on elastic materials, or special inter-suture fasteners are used to ensure that the cladding is securely held on the wall.

To finish the slopes of the front door, tiles with a porous terracotta surface are most often used. Such tiles can be stunningly beautiful and at the same time able to hide all the flaws made when installing the front door.

Drywall finishing

Performing finishing work using drywall is one of the most common ways to design jambs on the front door. The process of laying the sheet itself is not particularly difficult, but the preparation and cutting of the material takes 3-4 times more time than with all other types of finishes.

Usually the walls of the front door vestibule are not plastered under drywall. This is not particularly necessary, since the decor sheets will be laid on a frame made of a galvanized mounting profile. Before fixing on the wall, each strip of the U-shaped section is leveled with the help of a building level and linings from pieces of fiberboard.

Seams and joints are sealed with masking tape, after which they are rubbed with a primer, dried and sanded. After priming and painting, the entire structure of the slopes on the front door takes the form of a single structure.

The final finish can be done with decorative plaster or pasted over with pretty cork trellises. They perfectly muffle noise, do not react to fluctuations in humidity and air temperature.

Painting door frames

Many craftsmen consider staining solely as a temporary way to close the door slopes for the duration of the repair. It is enough to paint the ends of the walls around the perimeter of the front door to get rid of dust and condensation.

In fact, when used correctly, painting can be just as effective a way to design slopes as plastering or wallpapering.

The easiest way to use painting on brick walls. To do this, the slopes and the space around the front door are thoroughly washed from the remnants of the mortar, mounting foam, dust and stains. The seams between the bricks are painted over with a contrasting black or white color, the rest of the masonry with a bright red or terracotta toner. It remains only to open with acrylic varnish to enhance the effect, and the Loft-style design is ready.

How to close the slopes after installing a metal door

Increasingly, instead of wooden and plastic door blocks, apartment owners prefer to install steel entrance doors. This is not only a concern for security, but also a way to extend the life of the entrance to the apartment. As a rule, a metal door frame is larger than a wooden one, so the doorway has to be expanded and enlarged.

As a result, after installing the steel frame and door leaf, the entrance opening is the ends of the walls with an uneven concrete surface and curved geometry.

Preparation for work

To put the slopes in order, first of all, it is necessary to measure the distance between the vertical surfaces of the walls and the position of the upper edge. If the concrete lintel above the steel door remains horizontal, then the situation is greatly simplified. If the crossbar, after measuring the building level, turned out to be with a slope, then you will have to cut off some part of the brick or concrete with a perforator in order to bring its position as close as possible to the horizontal. Next, you will only need to plaster and level the surface above the entrance doors along the horizon.

There are fewer problems with vertical slope surfaces. If the difference between the largest and smallest distance between the sidewalls of the vestibule is more than 15 mm, then the slopes will have to be made of drywall, if the spread is smaller, then the surface of the jambs must be leveled with gypsum plaster.

Slope arrangement

The next step is to prime the surface of the slopes so that the plaster mass adheres without bubbles. At the corners, as well as on the vertical edges adjacent to the front door, plastic corners are glued with a mesh. Plastic will be used to level the plane of the plastered surface.

We apply the plaster mass in small portions and stretch it using the rule over the entire plane of the slopes. The frame and part of the front door leaf must be sealed with construction masking tape so that the primer and gypsum plaster do not get on the seal.

If the laid layer is not enough, then after three to four hours it will be necessary to plaster with a finishing layer, it can be quite thin, therefore, at the same time as leveling the material, it is necessary to check the deviation of the surface from the vertical.

After 8-10 hours, the tape is removed from the front door, and the hardened plaster is sanded with an emery mesh. Fresh slopes must be primed and finished. It can be anything:

  • Beautiful wallpaper to match the tapestries pasted in the corridor;
  • Furniture veneer, matching the color and texture of the surface with the front door leaf;
  • Liquid wallpaper;
  • Decorative plaster.

The easiest way is to paint the slopes in the color of the corridor or even a tone lighter. Do not abuse dark and brown tones, from this the space turns into a dark and uncomfortable tunnel.

Sometimes the situation develops in such a way that there is simply no time to perform work in compliance with all the requirements of the technology. In this case, the jamb can be lined with drywall and polyurethane foam. It is enough just to cut the panels to size, apply a small amount of foam, install the finish in place and spread the canvas with homemade crossbars.

After a couple of hours, the excess foam that has seeped into the gap between the drywall and the edge of the front door is cut off, and the joints and sharp edges are sanded with sandpaper. The whole finish will take 2-3 hours. Of course, at the first opportunity, the slopes can be primed and painted, but even in an unfinished form, this type of decor looks very convincing.

Conclusion

Collecting slopes for entrance doors is no more difficult than making decorative wall cladding in a kitchen or corridor. Finishing masters claim that the amount of work that will need to be done to bring the door jambs into an acceptable form depends on the professionalism of the specialists who installed the door in the opening. In many cases, it is possible to get by with minimal priming and repainting of the old plaster.

Sections of the article:

In the process of carrying out repair work in an apartment or a private house, it often becomes necessary to replace many coatings and systems. This includes windows and doors. After the installation of the front door is completed, an inaccurate opening remains with potholes in the partitions and a damaged coating. The finishing of these surfaces is carried out precisely in order to hide such working imperfections at the installation site of the front door. For such lining from the inside, a wide variety of materials are used, which you can see in the photo in this article. Moreover, today in the building materials market, each consumer can choose for himself exactly what is needed and suitable for the interior of the hallway.

Finishing materials

Well-executed finishing of the front door will add aesthetics, accuracy and completeness to the room. Today, many people are concerned about how to finish the front door with the highest quality. Which material, texture or color to choose?

The main task is to achieve such a result that would allow the front door from the side of the dwelling to fit as harmoniously and naturally as possible into the realized design idea of the hallway.

Before proceeding with the choice of material for finishing around the front door space, it is necessary to take into account a number of general requirements or wishes. For example, in a situation where the doors from the rooms lead to the hallway, it makes sense to make the front door a little different from the rest. After all, the front door is the main one.

If the hallway is not too spacious, or even cramped, you can consider the option of mirroring the front door. This option will not only create the illusion of increasing space, but also from an aesthetic point of view it will look very impressive. True, such a solution is not recommended to be implemented if there are small children in the home.

Also an important point when choosing the type of finishing of the front door is the need to carry out the insulation of the structure. It is better to lay the insulation on the inside, otherwise the material will not last too long. First of all, this rule applies to common staircases and private houses.

Most often, wood, natural leather or its substitutes, plastic panels, MDF are used as a material for finishing the inside of the front door. In addition, you can use self-adhesive film or paint.

In addition, we must not forget about the decoration of the doorway. Given the fact that residential premises are usually characterized by stability and constancy of internal temperatures, the front door can be lined with siding, plaster, decorative stone or clapboard.

Insulation and finishing of the door leaf

The first step is to prepare a heater, for example, foam. As a rule, the inner part of a metal door is equipped with stiffeners, forming a kind of cell. According to the size of these sections, it is necessary to cut out pieces of foam, the thickness of which will be about 30-40 mm.

The next step is to use a foam gun. It is necessary to apply a contour along the perimeter of each section, and two additional strips of the composition inside the recess. After that, the prepared piece of foam is glued. Identical operations should be performed with all cells in the door. It is important not to forget and leave a place for installing a door lock.

After that, it is necessary to prepare a place for finishing the inner surface of the door. For this purpose, a mounting plate is used. A sheet of plywood and self-tapping screws are installed in her pocket, with the help of which fastening to the door will take place. The bar must be fixed on three sides, with the exception of the upper part. This is where the outer upholstery will begin.

It should be emphasized that the plywood used must have moisture resistant properties. In addition, as it is installed, it is recommended to cover it with glossy paint in advance. Now you should take a sheet of plywood together and carefully, so as not to damage the foam, push it inside the installed mounting plate.

After that, it is necessary to smear the top of the plywood with prepared glue and install another part of the mounting plate on it. There is no need to fix it with screws.

On the resulting surface, you can stuff a layer of leatherette or another finish option.

Finishing the door portal

To minimize heat loss through the doorway, it is necessary to approach its sealing as responsibly as possible. The main role in achieving this result is played by the finishing of the slopes of the front door, which are to be faced after the completion of the main installation work.

There are several basic options for finishing the front door jambs. Among the main ones, plastering, the use of MDF panels, the installation of gypsum boards with subsequent painting, and the installation of a laminate should be highlighted. The first step is to level the slopes with plaster mortar or using drywall sheets. The first option is more labor intensive. For plastering slopes, it will be necessary to prepare a cement-sand mixture, and also use special paint corners for better leveling.

The space between the corners must be filled with mortar and gently smooth the surface with a spatula. After the plaster has dried, you can continue finishing the slopes with any material. In addition to the described method, it is possible to use slabs for cladding GKL. They must be pre-cut into pieces of the required size. To fix the GKL plates, a frame or frameless method is used. In the second case, an adhesive mixture is used. Let's take a closer look at some finishes.

Making the opening with plastic panels

Finishing the front door from the inside with plastic panels is especially popular among consumers. This is due to the affordable price and ease of installation of these structures. As a result of the implementation of such a technical solution, homeowners receive an impeccably even and outstanding coating that will add aesthetics to any interior.
The main advantages of plastic are simplicity and ease of installation, ease of maintenance, moisture resistance, resistance to different temperatures. In addition, plastic panels for door trim do not fade in the sun. Also, an important advantage of this solution is the absence of the need for preliminary preparatory work before installing the panels. The surface on which the panel will be laid does not need to be leveled.

Arrangement of the opening with a stone

The use of stone as a finishing material will not only add aesthetics to the hallway, but can make its appearance simply chic. Often, with this type of lining, artificial plates of small thickness are used. It is best to give preference to a stone no more than 4 mm thick.

For fixing stone slabs, a special composition. The use of a self-adhesive base will protect the material from kinks and cracking. The most popular solution for such a finish is to use a solid piece of stone. Such a cladding will look aesthetically pleasing, elegant, visually resembling a monolithic piece of stone. Such a door finish will look really beautiful with the corresponding decoration of the door portal.

Other options

It should be noted that not all consumers can afford finishing the space near the front door with decorative stone. This is a rather expensive material, so MDF panels or laminate can be used as an alternative. They are not worse than monolithic stone slabs, but they have a number of specific differences. The advantage of these materials is their availability and ease of use.

Laminate is a more practical option over MDF panels. This material is relatively inexpensive, beautiful and outwardly neat. Both laminate and MDF have a long service life, moisture resistance, and are also resistant to cleaners and disinfectants. To slightly improve the aesthetic characteristics of the inside of the front door, you can make a natural veneer over the MDF. This will add prestige and elegance to the appearance of the entire structure.

In a small hallway of an ordinary-sized apartment, the front door looks great, in the decoration of the space near which natural wood elements are used. And if the cladding pattern is combined with the ornament of the furniture installed in the hallway, then the interior of the room will become as harmonious as possible. A more expensive option is wood veneer.

Recently, a combination of different materials has been increasingly used for decoration. With this combination, it is important to pay attention to their compatibility, quality and reliable installation. To carry out the work, you will need certain tools and materials. First of all, it is polystyrene foam (polyurethane foam), mounting foam, a plywood sheet about 9 mm thick, a foam cutting knife, waterproof construction glue and a special mounting plate with self-tapping screws and a press washer.

Recently, I learned in detail what door slopes are and what they look like after the door is installed. The fact is that if you order the installation of entrance or interior doors, the craftsmen often just do their job, not being puzzled by what you will do with the slopes.

And here there are two options, hire a team of finishers and pay them decent money for trifling work, or make door slopes with your own hands. I chose the second option, and to be honest, I ran into some difficulties.

I hope this article will help you avoid my mistakes and do everything efficiently and reliably.

Finishing door slopes

After the installation of interior doors was over, and I already wanted to relax, it turned out that there is such a thing as door slopes, and after installation they look very impartial. Leaving them in this state means spoiling the whole look of the house.

The question arose - how to fix them. Two options immediately came to mind:

  • Plaster and then paint.
  • Make door slopes from the laminate that remained after the repair.

Both options are equally practical, but installing a laminate requires at least a small crate, which is not always possible to install, especially if the opening is already narrow. In this case, plastering door slopes is an ideal option that does not require large financial costs and special skills in construction.

But first things first.

Plaster

Before proceeding to the description of the process of plastering slopes on the door, it is necessary to understand why this method is better than others, and why it should be preferred. As you know, everything has pros and cons. Plaster is no exception.

Advantages

  1. There is no need to install a crate that hides the width of the opening, which is especially true for interior doors.
  2. You can close the slopes on the door yourself, without the involvement of builders and, accordingly, additional costs.
  3. Relatively low cost of all necessary materials and tools.
  4. The whole process will take only a few hours, even if there is no relevant experience.

Well, now a little about the negative side of such door slopes.

disadvantages

  1. After plastering, door slopes require an additional coat of paint.
  2. The aesthetic component leaves much to be desired.

To be honest, I was looking for negative sides for a long time, but I didn’t find it, so let’s focus on what we have and move on to the installation process.

We plaster slopes

Plastering door slopes, like any other repair, requires the preparation of materials and tools to facilitate this moment, we will list everything that we may need.

Tool:

  • Putty knife.
  • Construction level.
  • Grout with fine sandpaper.
  • Roller or brush for applying primer.
  • Screwdriver, if the installation is carried out under the "beacons".
  • Trowel for initial surface leveling.

Materials:

  • Stucco mix. It is advisable to take ready-made, so as not to waste time on self-mixing cement with sand.
  • "Beacons", two are enough for each slope.
  • Decorative corners that match the color of the room design.
  • The primer is antibacterial.

So, let's begin. First of all, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the surface of the slope from possible contaminants: dust, dirt.

Important! An uncleaned surface does not adhere well to mixtures and after a few months the plaster will begin to fall off.

Next, prime the surface with a roller or brush. Do not feel sorry for the primer, as they say - you can’t spoil the porridge with oil. Moreover, cold bridges are always formed near the door, which can lead to the formation of condensate.

The primer must be allowed to dry well and only after that proceed to the installation of "beacons". By the way, if you have skills in plastering, then you can do without them. Beacons are installed along the edges of the slopes and fixed to the wall with self-tapping screws or dowels.

After that, the plaster mixture is prepared, or rather, it is simply diluted with water in the proportions indicated on the package.

The plaster is applied with a spatula to the entire slope from the bottom up. And with the help of a trowel, which is leaned against two beacons, and the excess mixture is removed.

The leveled layer of plaster is left until completely dry, and only after that the surface is leveled with fine sandpaper.

Now it remains to make a decorative coating and install the corners. On this installation can be considered complete.

Laminate

Making door slopes with laminate is a little more difficult than just plastering. Installation takes place in two stages:

  1. Framing manufacturing.
  2. Laminate installation.

The list of tools is even shorter than when working with plaster.

  • Screwdriver.
  • Hammer.
  • Adhesive for fixing decorative corners.

Materials:

  • Laminate.
  • Dowel.
  • The bar is wooden.
  • Decorative corner.
  • Self-tapping screws for wood or drywall.

Advice! if the width of the slope does not exceed 20 cm, then the laminate can be installed along the length. If the panel is narrower than the slope, then the installation will have to be done horizontally from small segments.

Lathing manufacturing

A wooden beam is best suited for these purposes, since it is thinner than a metal profile and the opening will not lose much in size. The beam must be treated with impregnations as well as the wall itself. This will protect the wood from decay and significantly extend the life of the finish.

The beam is attached to the wall with dowels in increments of about 50 cm, there should be two such guides in total, one on each side of the slope, but if the opening is very wide, then it may be necessary to install a third beam in the middle.

After the crate is ready, you can proceed to the laminate.

Laminate installation

Installing laminate door slopes starts from the bottom up. The first segment is installed to the floor with a minimum gap of 2-3 mm, since the laminate does not have thermal deformation, this is quite enough. Further, the whole process is no different from mounting on the floor. The segments are connected to each other in a lock and snap into place.

The segments are attached to the crate with self-tapping screws to the very edge, subsequently the hats will be closed with decorative corners.

Advice! before attaching the laminate to the slope, it is advisable to pre-drill holes for self-tapping screws, as the edge of the laminate may crack or flatten.

After all the panels are fixed, you can put the corners. The easiest way is to attach them to glue, this is the easiest and most reliable way.

Conclusion

Having dealt with the question of how to repair the slopes after installing the entrance or interior doors, you can safely get to work. Of course, there are many other ways to do this, but the option described in this article is the least expensive and probably the easiest.
