Nobody knows exactly when wine was invented. It couldn't be that one fine day - rrraz, and it appeared!

Around 8000 years ago, in the region of present-day Georgia and Turkey, people began to grow cultivated (not wild) grapes. He was so cultured that he was never late, wore a bow tie and was called Vitis vinifera. Since then, little has changed fundamentally. Unless there are more than 9,000 grape varieties, and winemaking and drinking wine has not lost its relevance for centuries.

And now about traffic jams. Once upon a time, wine was stored in clay amphorae and corked with a piece of wood wrapped in a rag. Or just a sliver of soft rocks tree. Such “protocorks” swelled from moisture and could easily break the neck of a wine jug from the inside. Then there were wooden cone-shaped plugs with a long handle that protruded from the neck. To open it was possible by hand. Then it turned out empirically that the cork oak bark has ideal qualities for making wine corks. Maybe that's why they called him that? It is this material that helps the wine to retain its original properties for as long as possible. Corks from such a bark are light, pass right amount oxygen, allowing the wine to breathe, and are less prone to rotting.

In the 21st century, you can find 3 types of traffic jams that look like natural ones. From all of them you can do something interesting. And here are the types:

  • whole cork
  • agglomerated, i.e. glued from natural cork waste. The cork crumb is pressed and cylinders are cut out of it. This is the most common option today.
  • plastic or synthetic stoppers

Wine corks are one of those materials that many of us throw in the trash without thinking.
But sometimes it's hard to come up with best material for crafts. So, today we are going to share a surprisingly simple idea that will use wine corks. In the end, we get a functional item for use in the kitchen - a hot stand.

We need for the project the following materials and tools:
35 wine corks, spicy kitchen knife, cutting board, glue, aluminum foil tape, scissors.

Stand of corks step by step We start cutting all the collected corks in half. While cutting, carefully twist the cork to get a clean edge.

Proceed to glue the cut corks together, making sure that all the cuts are pointing up. Try to apply glue to the cut so that it does not seep from all sides. Choose a flat work surface on which to assemble the stand, joining all the pieces together to end up with a relatively even edge. Start with three corks, which are glued into a triangle, then add the next one after the other.

Continue until you have a 20 cm hexagonal object at the very wide area. Some corks are slightly larger than others, so it's best to pre-assemble them before gluing them together.

Let the glue dry for several hours. An aluminum strip around the stand will hold the structure together better.

Next, cut a ribbon about 2 cm wide from aluminum foil. Its length should be about 1.5 times the circumference of the stand (it turns out about 90-100 cm).

Turn the cork over so that the cuts are facing down. To glue the aluminum tape, you can use double sided tape. The bottom edge of the tape should be glued flush with the bottom edge of the caps.

After attaching the foil to one stopper, use the edge of a pair of scissors to thread the tape into the gap between the stoppers. Then attach it to the next one and continue this process around. Overlap the ends a little, and then cut off the excess tape.

Wine corks - great material for use as a hot pad because it absorbs heat. Such an interesting unique item will ideally protect the surface of your table.

We collected 25 interesting ideas, which are easy to implement at home, even without being a professional decorator. Today we are talking about wine corks, of which a lot remains after the celebrations.
Hot pads
One of the most practical options is to make coasters out of wine corks. They are always needed, there is never such a good thing. In addition, the cork is perfect for this, as it does not deteriorate from hot and can protect your table from unwanted temperature effects. You can make such coasters with your own hands by simply gluing them together. For a change, you can cut the wine cork into equal parts and connect them together using special glue.
There is another option, for it you will need a base, on which it will then be necessary to fix the plugs. To do this, you can take photo frames that are the same in style or color, with beautiful design. Then cut the corks lengthwise into two pieces. After that, using glue, firmly attach the halves of the corks to the substrate. These coasters look very creative and interesting. They are good to use both under cups of hot tea and under wine glasses.

Rugs, panels, kitchen aprons
It turns out that wine corks can do a good job, and also bring a touch of creativity to the interior. A vivid example of this is wall panels made of corks. Some craftsmen lay out whole kitchen aprons from them and line the walls with them. Of course, a lot of corks are needed for these purposes, but if you don’t throw them away, but determine some kind of box for them (for example, from under shoes) and put them there, then sooner or later you will collect a certain number of corks. So you can independently make of them, if not a whole wall, then at least a beautiful panel. To enhance the effect, you can cover it with a transparent mother-of-pearl varnish, which is usually used for wallpaper.
Our opinion:
- If your walls do not need additional decor, then make a small rug. Then you can place it in the hallway or in the bathroom - beautiful and practical. In addition, the cork is pleasant to the touch, environmentally friendly and aesthetically attractive.

Organizers and note boards
Wine corks - universal option for a wide variety of crafts, useful and convenient. For example, they make excellent organizers for storing jewelry and jewelry. To make such an item, you will need a baguette frame with a backing, small hooks and glue. Make an organizer in the same way as coasters for cups and wine glasses. As for design, here you can show your creative nature to the fullest.
In addition to organizers, it is easy to make a note board out of a wine cork and hang it in the hallway or living room. Attach family photos to it using stationery pins, choose color options for a change. On the same board, you can leave messages to your relatives by pinning notes on it.
Nadezhda Mitskova, decorator:
- The use of wine corks as interior decor can be quite diverse. From this at first glance simple material you can create a lot of things, not only decorative, but also useful in your home. It can be just coasters for cups and hot, various panels, large letters and numbers.
An interesting and quite simple idea to use corks is a note board. Glue halves or whole corks to the substrate required size. You can also use a photo frame as a base. With buttons or pins, you can easily attach various notes, photos and reminders to such a board.
Continuing the topic of notes: it is very easy to make fridge magnets out of corks. In this case, you will need magnetic tape or flat souvenir magnets. Corks can be cut lengthwise or across and glued to them with a magnet. In my opinion, this option is visually more aesthetic than the already tired souvenir products.

Country decor
If your interior is designed in a certain style that wine corks do not match in any way, then why not try to make interesting decor items for a summer residence. For example, arrange flower pots or make an interior curtain.
Some go beyond decorative items and create entire chairs out of cork. Looks very unusual.
Our opinion:
- And for giving, you can make very attractive birdhouses from cork. Just do not forget to varnish them so that the house will please the birds in your garden longer.

For the soul
There are people who like to constantly make something. In their hands, even an ordinary cork turns into stylish item decor. It allows you to create interesting compositions in the form of hearts, letters and numbers, funny little animals.
In order to make crafts from corks with your own hands, you do not need to be a professional, take decorating art courses or be a master needleworker. It is enough just to have the source material (cork, glue, clerical knife) and good mood. The decor, in which there will be a piece of your soul, will become a true decoration of the interior.
Olga Savchenko, interior designer:
- The corks left after the New Year can be easily used as decoration. The easiest way: collect in a wide transparent vase and use as a candlestick.

In combination with any glass object, the cork will look quite advantageous in quality. simple decoration- between the glass tops of the table, in glasses. Decor can be diluted artificial snow or any other contrast filler.
