Master class: do-it-yourself filament curtains. How to make a curtain from threads with your own hands Make thread curtains

Very quickly, new muslin curtains, weightless filament curtains, entered many interiors. They can transform any room in a house or apartment. A large number of them appeared in shops and markets. They are bright, beautiful, varied, but not always affordable.

Why pay more? After all, you can make them with your own hands, of the right size, from the thread you like and with the necessary decorations.

For a curtain 2.5 meters wide and 2.5 meters high you will need:

  • 11 skeins of "Pearl" thread, 100% viscose (about 3000 meters)
  • Double-sided tape
  • curtain tape
  • Adhesive interlining
  • Threads to match
  • Satin ribbon
  • Hooks for fastening
  • beads (optional)

The process of making curtains from threads

You can buy threads (of the same or different colors) in a needlework store or on the Internet. For sufficient density, you will need about 4 threads per 1 cm wide. And, therefore, for a curtain 2.5 meters wide, you need about 10,000 threads 250 cm long. Let this figure not scare anyone! They fasten quickly. And the result is worth it. You can make the curtain more rare, then the number of threads will decrease significantly.

It is not necessary to cut all the skeins at once. You can cut it in half and add as needed. In order to adjust the length of the curtains in place, add a few extra centimeters to the length of each thread (253 cm).

To facilitate the process of sewing on the threads, first secure them to the curtain tape using double-sided tape of a suitable width. From above you need to cover the threads with adhesive interlining and sew on a typewriter. You can complete the fastening with a wide satin ribbon, which will also perform a decorative function.

On the threads in random order or according to a specific pattern, you can fix the beads with knots. They can be of very different shapes (round, square, almond-shaped), from a variety of materials (plastic, glass, wood).

Care

Care for such curtains should be carefully. Better wash them by hand. Before this, the threads need to be braided into a braid. You can wash it in the machine by selecting the delicate mode without spinning and putting the “braid” in a laundry bag. When wet, hang the muslin on the eaves. The threads will dry out and straighten out under their own weight.

Don't be afraid to experiment. Make an effort, show your imagination, and this amazing piece of furniture will become the permanent "queen" in your home!

Do-it-yourself muslin curtains are an original solution that will emphasize the uniqueness of your interior. Kisei curtains are also called rope or thread curtains, as they are a lot of ropes or threads that are hung on a window, in a doorway, etc. The appearance of such curtains gives the interior sophistication, lightness and sophistication.

Rope curtains are now very popular, because of their simplicity and sophistication.

For the manufacture of kisei, threads of various textures, thicknesses and colors can be used, which are intertwined with each other. Such curtains remain translucent, but at the same time they are able to protect from sunlight and provide fresh air to the room. Such curtains can be used not only on windows and doorways, but also to divide the room into functional zones.

What is required to make curtains?

For the manufacture of kimei curtains, threads or cord, a base and glue are needed.

For the basis of such curtains, you can use yarn or smooth threads. Choose the decor for the curtains to your liking. It can be beads, small toys, fringes or even bells. DIY curtains woven from yarn will be heavier. Their appearance will be solid and solid. Curtains made of smooth threads are a lighter option, they will look flowing. You can even weave the base of the fishing line, decorated with beads and beads.

The width of the base should match the width of the window or doorway that you want to hang your shade on.

They can be hung on ordinary cornice rings. To do this, you can use ropes that are threaded into the canvas and into the ring. It is also convenient to use wooden planks with holes under the muslin.

For the simplest kisei model, you will need:

  • a piece of fabric the same width as the window (doorway);
  • threads;
  • decor at will;
  • double-sided tape or textile glue;
  • scissors.

A thread is wound on the prepared base for the curtain and fixed with glue.

To determine the length of the threads, you must first determine their desired density. Attach the pieces of thread to the fabric in a small area (about 5 cm) and count how many threads you need to fill this space. Let's say you need 20 threads per 5 cm, and the width of your future curtain is 1 m. In this case, perform the following calculations: 100 cm / 5 cm * 20 pcs = 400 pcs. That is, under such conditions, you will need 400 threads of a certain length. The required length of the threads is equal to the height from the cornice to the floor, minus the length of the woven base to which they will be attached, and a margin of about 2 cm.

The process of making curtains with your own hands

First of all, prepare the base for the threads. A piece of fabric needs to be hemmed so that the edges look neat and do not spread. On the upper edge, you can sew a curtain tape or make a loop for putting on a bar. In the last version, you need to tuck and hem the fabric so that you get a hole into which the bar will fit.

Next, you need to cut the threads of the required length. You can immediately cut the required amount if you use double-sided tape for fastening or a small part that will be needed to fill in some area of the woven base.

For knitted muslin curtains, a base is not required, the entire curtain is crocheted.

To attach to the adhesive tape, you need to stick the adhesive tape on the back side of the base, and glue the threads to its second side. You can additionally sew a strip of fabric on top to fix the fastening or glue each thread separately on textile glue. The simplest version of Kisei is ready. You can make it more original if you cut the bottom so that it is beveled, wavy or has any other shape.

If you want to weave beads into the threads, then it is recommended not to cut them in advance, as you can calculate the stock length that will be required for weaving inaccurately. You can weave so that the threads are one piece, or use any type of weave that you like.

Further care of products is quite simple. You can wash them as needed in the usual way, after tying the ropes into a braid. Curtains do not need to be dried or ironed. It is enough to hang them in the place they occupied. Under their own weight, they will straighten out as they dry.

Thus, even a novice master can make muslin curtains with his own hands. This requires a minimum of materials and tools. Design options for products depend only on your imagination and the interior for which the curtains are intended.

Every woman tries to decorate her house and bring comfort to it. Unusual solutions and interesting ideas look especially original. Recently, there has been a return to such a decorative and practical element as filament curtains.

Process description

First of all, you need to think over the design, decide which thread curtains you would like to see in your home. It must be taken into account that they can be made of various materials, have different thickness, structure and texture. The shape of the curtains also depends on whether they will serve as a partition or just become a decoration. To give the room originality, you can create a pattern on the curtains.

To get started and create filament curtains with your own hands, you need to prepare:

  • the cornice on which they will hang;
  • tapes that are used for fastening;
  • various threads for the product;
  • decor elements: beads, sequins or rhinestones.

What should be the length?

It is very important to accurately calculate the length of the threads for curtains so that the finished product has the dimensions you need. The main values that are needed are the length of the cornice and the height of the room. You also need to consider the type of threads and the distance where you plan to place them. The density of the curtains will depend on these indicators. Filament curtains of different density can be seen in the photo.

If preference is given to thin threads, then the distance between them should be about 2-5 mm. The number of skeins must be taken in centimeters, and it is calculated as follows: the length of the cornice must be divided by the distance between the threads. This will determine the number of threads that you need to take to create curtains with your own hands along the entire length of the eaves. The resulting number should be multiplied by the distance from the floor to the ceiling. Then centimeters must be converted to meters, and from here the required number of skeins must be determined. In the event that the threads turned out to be longer than necessary - it's not scary. It is enough to carefully cut them, and then fix them from below.

Fastening

Most workshops for making filament curtains assume that they will be fixed on a reinforcing tape. To do this, the threads must be cut, leaving the required length, and then attached to the base. They are intertwined with the help of loops in two rows.

You can also choose the second option. The threads are attached to special rings, which are then put on the cornice. The curtain will look like in the photo.
Sometimes filament curtains are mounted on a prepared plank of wood, on which holes are made. Threads are threaded through them and fixed, as in the photo.

Main materials

Curtain threads can be made from a variety of yarns, ranging from plain to shiny and smooth materials that shimmer and flow perfectly. You can decorate the curtains with any decor elements, it all depends on your imagination and personal preferences. It can be not only beads and sequins, but also bells and other decorations. For each bead, a suitable needle is selected, with which it is strung. It is better to hang about 10 decorations on one thread - then the finished product will not be overloaded with unnecessary details. The thicker the thread product is woven, the more reliably you need to cling to the decor.

Necessary calculations

When making the basis of filament curtains with your own hands, it is necessary to take into account the width of the doorway or other opening where the curtains will be located. If it is assumed that it will be necessary to move the curtains, then it is necessary to leave a space between the threads. With frequent shifting-pushing apart, it is more expedient to mount them on a wooden plank - it will be more practical and reliable.

An important point is the number of woven threads that form the basis of the curtains. For a standard size, about 15 pieces of thread are needed, but the exact amount is taken into account based on the width of the opening and personal preference. The length should not necessarily be to the floor, you can make the curtains not full length - this will create the illusion of spaciousness. The edges of the curtain can be made in various shapes: a semicircle, waves or classic straight lines. A more detailed master class can be viewed on the video.

Caring for filament curtains is not particularly difficult. They are easy to wash in warm soapy water.

Modern housing is very hard to imagine without curtains. They become the finishing touch in a well-thought-out interior, and also perform more trivial and familiar functions - protection from sunlight and dust, keeping warm or cool, depending on the time of year.

But more and more people want to stand out and bring originality to their interiors, using more interesting options instead of the usual curtains. One of these is muslin or the so-called filament curtains.

Advantages

How did filament curtains manage to gain such popularity and what are their advantages over other types of curtains? We will try to answer this question further.

  • Curtains-threads create a special atmosphere of comfort and relaxation in the room. They can also be easily combined with other types of curtains of different colors and textures.
  • In terms of decorating, Kisei is the best thing that could happen to humanity. The threads are easily woven together and just as easily untwisted, they can be tied into knots, tied up, cut off, and at the same time their appearance will not suffer at all. The decor of such curtains depends solely on your courage and imagination.
  • Due to the threads, such curtains are very versatile - they do not let in too bright sun, but at the same time, in cloudy weather, they do not interfere with the passage of light into the room.
  • You can wash such curtains very rarely, because they get dirty much less compared to other types of curtains, and they also collect less dust.
  • Filament curtains are ideal for zoning space. They will look good not only on the window, but also in the doorway or in the studio room. With their help, you can create translucent walls that will not violate the unity of space.
  • Such curtains are recommended for use in small rooms, because they visually increase the space. Due to the vertical stripes, the ceilings seem much higher.

Well, have you already made sure that thread curtains are the right choice? You should not immediately run to the store, because then we will tell you how to make filament curtains yourself.

Tailoring master class

Preparation and selection of materials

In fact, making filament curtains with your own hands is not at all as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Even a beginner can handle it, and besides, it is not necessary to have the skill of cutting and sewing.

Kisei is a huge space for creativity. In order to make a “classic” version, all you need from materials is threads or ribbons for curtains. And here's the fun part - instead, you can use shells, buttons, beads, wine corks, and in general, everything that you can reach. So you will definitely create a unique product and surprise your guests with your ingenuity.

You can also use almost everything to decorate curtains - beads, sequins, beads, feathers, pompons - there are many options. Give free rein to your imagination, combine different materials, experiment with colors, and then the creation of thread curtains will become not only a way to decorate the interior of an apartment, but also a great entertainment.

But back to the most common option. If you want the muslin to look like a store, in order to make it you need to take smooth viscose yarn. It will shine beautifully and shimmer in the sun. For a curtain 2.5 meters long and 3 meters wide, it will take no less than 10 skeins of yarn.

Naturally, before you buy materials and start manufacturing, you need to correctly calculate the length of the future curtains. To do this, measure the window opening and select the optimal step between parallel lines. And as a basis for the structure, on which, in fact, the threads will be attached, you can use a wide ribbon, braid or plank made of wood, metal or plastic.

The length is calculated as follows: it is necessary to measure the length of the threads (the height of the opening plus the winding plus the error, because it is always easier to cut off than to tie the missing one) and multiply the resulting figure by two. Thus, we get the desired length of the segment.

So, in this master class, the following materials and devices were used:

  • glue gun;
  • scissors;
  • several nails for fastening;
  • wooden plank;
  • yarn about 2 mm thick.

Making muslin is easy

You need to cut off pieces of thread for the curtains. After that, they are attached to the base. The method of fastening may be different, in this version a simple knot was used (for those who are familiar with macrame - this is how the threads are attached to the warp thread). The main thing is not to place the nodes too close, otherwise the finished curtains will be too thick. Trying on the doorway, you yourself can determine for yourself the optimal distance between the threads.

In order for the difference between the threads and the base not to be noticeable, you need to match them to match each other. Alternatively, the base can be painted. If you don’t have a suitable base, you can wrap it with threads. After hanging the loops, another 3-4 turns are made with the same thread and all this is fixed with hot glue.

When the threads are attached, you need to mask the ends of the bar. After that, you can attach it to where your muslin will hang. All this beauty is fastened with wallpaper studs for reliability.

The ends of the threads must be burned or tied into knots. Although it all depends on the material. For example, tulle, like any other fabric that does not require edging, is simply cut into strips of the same length and tied to a cornice rod. And voila - you already have ready-made filament curtains.

Curtains-threads in the interior were once a huge success, and then their popularity gradually faded. It is safe to say that today thread curtains are experiencing a second boom in popularity. They are ways to radically change the idea of \u200b\u200bcurtains, so owners who love original ideas and a non-standard approach often use them to decorate rooms.

Curtains-threads are weightlessness and a unique appearance, lightness and a wide range of use in the interior.

Curtains-threads bring a fairy tale, dream and fantasy to the house.

Curtains-threads can be called people from the East. It was there that such an option was invented for decorating a window into which the sun constantly shines. Products protected from scorching rays, but at the same time did not prevent the penetration of fresh air inside. These are not the only advantages of such products:

  • There is a wide variety in shades and colors. Ideally, such curtains are suitable for window decoration in the bedroom, nursery, living room;
  • You can independently supplement the curtain with some interesting decorative elements: pebbles and beads, beads, glass beads;
  • No need to think long about how to tie such a curtain. It fastens quickly and looks equally beautiful in any of its performances. Can be hung on any type of cornice if sewn with fabric braid;
  • If the curtains have threads on the grommets, then their pattern and pattern can be constantly changed by changing the location of the threads. Damage to the appearance eliminates the unique weaving of the fibers. Such products can be shortened if desired;
  • Filament curtains are used not only for window decoration, but also for zoning a room. For example, they can be used to separate the kitchen from the living room, if these rooms are combined;
  • With the rest of the curtains, these options are perfectly combined, they can be used as an original addition;
  • Thread curtains, even if they are additionally decorated with stones, beads, do not need additional care. You just need to wash them in a washing machine (after tying them into a roll and tightly bandaging them in several places at once).

Spiral

Each thread of such a product will be twisted like a spiral, hence this decor option got its name. Manufacturers guarantee that, with proper use, the threads will not unwind.

Rainbow and Rain

Rain collections are not like other thread curtains, because they have a unique elegant sheen. This effect is achieved due to the fact that thin strips of lurex are woven into the threads. The thickness of each thread is no more than three millimeters. Height can be adjusted freely. The Rainbow collection is distinguished by a soft and smooth flow of one color into another. Both materials of the same color range, and completely different in shade, can be used.

butterflies

A romantic and beautiful type of curtains of threads, which is often used in children's rooms. They can be monophonic or combine several colors at once. Textile butterflies are woven into the thread construction. By the way, it can be not only butterflies, but other beautiful ideas from the plant or animal world.

You can buy thread curtains today at any store. But everything that is done with your own hands for the interior is the most valuable and individual. To make curtain threads with your own hands, you need:

  • Thread, it will look more interesting with a glossy surface;
  • Adhesive tape;
  • Satin ribbon, which should be combined in color with the main color scheme of the threads;
  • A stapler, which is used to fasten adhesive tape and finished threads;
  • Scissors and needle;
  • Ruler.

In the needlework store you can buy all the materials and tools necessary for work. After that, you can start an exciting and interesting work.

First you need to measure the width of the opening where you plan to hang the curtains. This is done with a ruler. Knowing this parameter, it will be easy to calculate the required amount of thread. If ordinary knitting threads are taken, then at least ten such threads will be needed per centimeter of the opening. You can also take not threads, but fabric cut into thin strips. Such strips will be enough up to five pieces per centimeter.

Now the desired length of thread is measured and cut off. The required number of threads is cut, leveling on the first. It is better to attach the cut threads to the adhesive tape immediately, so as not to get confused later. Having cut and attached the required number of threads to the tape, it is necessary to wrap the other half of it so that the two halves stick together. Now staple everything together. A satin ribbon is taken, and an adhesive tape is wrapped around it on both sides. A satin ribbon is sewn to the curtain. The next final step is to hang the curtain in the place that was prepared in advance for it.

They look very nice, besides, the light transmits and heat from the batteries.

We measure the length of the cornice (I have 3.20 cm), the height of the curtain (2.50 cm). Depending on the selected threads, as well as on the desire at what distance you will distribute them, you need to calculate the amount of material for the curtains. If the thread is thin, the distance between the threads is 2-5 mm.

We divide 3.20: 0.5 = 650 threads, 650x2.50 = 1625 m. And now we buy threads, it is cheaper to buy large skeins, in which at least 400 m. 1625:400 = ~ 4 skeins. Calculate how much curtains will cost you.

and you can even paint them in a different color.

Then, for example, take two boards or plywood, preferably the full length of the curtains themselves and, measuring along the entire length, for example, 1 cm, cut the curtains into threads.

You can then even intertwine them with woolen, colored threads and you will get wonderful, filament curtains. At the top, I think it will be necessary to go through the machine to fix the threads and so that the cuts do not break further.

And you probably won’t have to count the number of threads, because the curtains have changed in their shape, but not in size.

And here is another "folk" way:

If anyone has at home, instead of ordinary curtains, outdated vertical blinds that already need to be changed. That is just a plus. We take and cut the lamellas from above, leaving only a few centimeters, in order to make holes and tie the threads. As it has already become clear, we further make holes at the top of the rest of the lamella and tie already prepared threads. The length of the threads can be easily found by measuring the height from our holes to the floor, or whatever you like. The number of pieces can also be determined. If the width of the lamella is 89mm, and earlier it was said that thin threads should be placed at a distance of 2-5mm, then we will take 5mm and start dividing 89/5=17.8mm. Making holes through 5mm, we will tie (try to tie) 18 threads on one lamella. Now we multiply by their number, and then by the length of the threads that we have chosen, we get the total length of the threads that we need to buy. Create!
