Wallpaper with natural leaves in the interior. Natural wallpaper in the interior (photo)

a little more than a year ago we released an article about . This short instruction was supposed to serve as informational support for those who are planning or have already bought this natural material to decorate their home.

But time goes by...but no! the method, as one might think, of gluing does not change, BUT it's exactly the time to embroider the recommendations :) So we will try to make an updated article for pasting natural wallpaper 2.0. as useful as possible.

FEATURES IN WORK, which should be considered WHEN PASTING walls with natural wallpaper:

1. Just before gluing, let the natural wallpaper “get used” to the temperature environment and the level of humidity in it a little by printing the rolls and holding them indoors for at least a day.

2. At the same time, it is important not to store wallpaper indoors with high humidity Please keep them out of direct sunlight and water. Do not forget: - this is a natural material and implies the presence of natural eco-elements: leaves, blades of grass, etc.

3. Important advice: before sticking the wallpaper, inspect it for defects and remember: after the wallpaper is cut, quality claims, unfortunately, are not accepted!

4. As before, the manufacturer advises using for gluing.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:

Most importantly, the surface to be glued must be clean, flat and dry!

1. Remove old wallpaper from the surface

2. Clean the base with a spatula and sweep it with a hard brush, removing the remnants of the previous coating

3. Prime the base with penetrating primer COSCA PROFF

4. Level the base with putty

! Important: On new, previously unglued surfaces, you can use universal or leveling putties. On substrates already coated, incl. and oil, it is better to use special formulations.

CUTTING:

There are marking symbols on the packaging of each roll of natural wallpaper. Those. room height + 5-10 cm will give the correct length of the strip. If the wallpaper pattern requires docking, then provide additional allowances for this.

APPLICATION OF GLUE:

Before wallpapering, it is important to properly prepare the adhesive. Therefore, be sure to follow the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. This means:

1. The consistency of the adhesive must match the weight (density) of the wallpaper

2. Glue is applied to inside wallpaper with a brush or roller

3. Avoid getting glue on the seams or on the outside of the wallpaper

4. If the weight of the wallpaper is quite large (for example, the weight of a roll is more than 3 kg with a roll length of 10 m), then apply an additional layer of glue to the surface to be glued

5. After applying the glue, wait a few minutes before the wallpaper absorbs the glue well)

6. When pasting the surface of wallpaper on unbleached paper base (which is ALL natural wallpaper without exception), apply glue to the inside of the wallpaper, as well as to the base itself

STICKING NATURAL WALLPAPERS:

Let's move on to the main part.

1. Do not ventilate the room while pasting with natural wallpaper. In no case! Also avoid temperature fluctuations and drafts.

2. Start gluing natural wallpaper from the window

3. Leave some headroom at the ceiling if you need to even out some height deviations

4. Press the wallpaper against the surface and roll over it with a polyurethane roller to completely remove all air bubbles

5. If glue does get on the surface, remove it immediately with a dry sponge! DO NOT RUNN!

6. After drying, COSCA PROFF natural wallpaper glue will become completely transparent

HOW TO WORK WITH DIFFICULT AREAS WHEN PASTING:

ANGLES: It is better not to glue the wallpaper "in the corner", but leave 1-2 cm as a ledge around the corner. Align the new strip of wallpaper with a plumb line and stick it to the next wall.

DOORS: When wallpapering, approach the door from one side. The strip that will capture part of the door is cut vertically to the top edge of the door frame. Press the strip along the vertical edge to the wall, cut off the protrusion. Adjust the ledge above the door frame, from below - cut off the excess.

CEILING: After marking the first strip, the wallpaper on the ceiling should be glued from the window deep into the room.

SOCKETS AND SWITCHES: Before you start pasting the mentioned objects, it is recommended to turn off the electricity - do not forget about safety. Unscrew the casing, paste the wallpaper, make a crosswise cut with a knife, carefully cut out the excess part of the wallpaper, screw the casing back.

WINDOW NICHES: To correctly frame window niches, leave the wallpaper to protrude to the depth of the niche itself, plus a small allowance. Make cuts at the top and bottom, bend the wallpaper around the corner, carefully cut off the excess.

HOW TO REMOVE NATURAL WALLPAPER FROM THE WALL:

Wet the front side of the wallpaper with water or other special composition. Clean the remaining layer with a spatula, repeat the same with the paper base. If the base still sticks to the wall, let it dry and sand it down.

Let's start step by step photo instructions for pasting natural wallpaper:

How often in construction stores one has to literally get lost against the backdrop of endless racks of products. And, nevertheless, this article will discuss a very pleasant choice, because wallpapering the walls, being the final stage, marks the end of the repair. Let's talk about the choice of this material. But not about the usual paper or vinyl options, but about the so-called natural coatings, and let's try to figure out what they are and whether they are worth the money indicated on the price tags.

natural wallpaper

  • Their second name is vegetable wallpaper. The basis for them is unbleached (and, therefore, not subject to active and "harmful" processing) paper, canvas or interlining plant origin. The width of a piece most often starts from 60 cm and can reach 97 cm, and a roll usually holds from 5.5 to 10 m of material. Some other parameters will be specified in a separately described material.

  • On this environmentally friendly base, the fibers of some plants are applied and fixed by weaving, gluing. They can be used singly or combined with each other.
  • This coating is suitable not only for walls, but also for ceilings, allowing you to create an original and very individual design in room. Uniqueness is achieved due to the fact that, like any thing of natural origin, natural wallpapers cannot be duplicated to the smallest detail.
  • Of course, they are not forbidden to be used neither in retro style, nor in hi-tech or immortal classics, however, natural wallpapers look more harmoniously in interiors a la country or “rural glamor”. The coatings offered by nature itself do not have to be pasted over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe room. Sometimes a simple insert or a few elements of them is enough to emphasize zoning or make some kind of accent, according to the design intent.

Making wallpaper from natural materials

So, natural ingredients are used for their production.

  • Wallpaper natural bamboo. This is an extremely popular material for the manufacture of environmentally friendly wall coverings. We can say that this is the first natural wallpaper made from exotic components, launched into mass production. Folk love to them is based on a unique feeling of energy, they seem to give the room all the strength and warmth of the southern sun. Let's take a closer look at them, because appearance and the manufacturing process is somewhat different from other types of natural wallpaper.

  • Sometimes they are called bamboo sheets. Such a coating is planks from a plant, selected in width and fixed with fabric-based glue. The width of the slats is varied, from 0.3 to 1.7 cm. The width of the roll itself starts from 90 cm and reaches two meters.
  • There are several types of bamboo sheets: from the outer bar. Since this outer part of the plant is the most dense, wallpaper from it, in addition to its exoticism, is also valued for this quality; stitched bamboo wallpaper form straps fastened (by means of a thread); sanded coatings. Made from the less valuable part of bamboo, after being removed from it top part. The rest is sanded and varnished.
  • Such natural wallpapers can be used both on horizontal and vertical bases, they often become the basis for the decoration of objects in the interior. The first type - from the outer strip can be used even for exterior decoration.
  • In general, bamboo fabric is very resistant to mechanical and atmospheric influences. Looks good on balconies and loggias, gives a special chic to the interior of a cafe or office space. Due to moisture resistance, it is used in interior decoration in saunas and baths. Special bamboo planks are used to decorate joints or corners.

  • Jute. Wallpaper from this material is created as follows: fibers of plant origin (obtained from annual plant lime family) are applied to sheets of natural unbleached paper or interlining. The resulting coating is very reminiscent of a textile fabric, in which inclusions are observed in the form of fragments - nodules.

  • Some types of seaweed. The sellers claim that they even decorated with wallpaper - mats continue to exude a faint aroma of the sea element and even saturate the air in the room with iodine ions.
  • Reeds.
  • Papyrus.
  • Cork. Cork wallpaper appeared as an alternative to the decor of this material on the walls, which is a plate - slices. Modern version coatings are lightweight, and the main advantage is hypoallergenicity. If any of the family members suffer from some form of this disease, such wallpapers will become good decision for his room.
  • wood veneer. Not so long ago, wood veneer was used exclusively in the furniture industry. progressive modern technologies allow to make from it magnificent vegetable coverings. The most diverse types of wood are used to create them: zebrano, European cherry, Japanese lacquer wood, Italian sandalwood, phoenix and many others. They are valued for their shade, beautiful pattern formed by the fibers and creating structure and the illusion of volume. Undoubtedly, such a wall covering can attract the eye for a long time.
  • Leaves. The basis is high-quality interlining. BUT outer side created from skeletonized and dyed natural leaves. The most commonly used representatives of the flora are the bodhi tree (sometimes called the Buddha tree), mango, ficus, magnolia, Chinese nettle.

  • Sisal- this coarse fiber obtained from the leaves of the agave. Rarely used on its own and more often included in combined species eco wallpaper.
  • Linen. The so-called textile wallpaper. Using the lamination method, threads of completely natural or mixed fibers are applied to the paper base. The resulting coatings are very reminiscent of natural linen matter. In addition to environmental friendliness, they are resistant to fading, can also be used on ceilings, and provide additional sound insulation in the room. The canvases are produced in rolls, from 10 to 50 meters long, and their width is small - from 53 to 80 cm.
  • Velvet or silk, also serving as the basis for creating wallpaper, is also commonly referred to as natural species. They are distinguished by a certain degree of environmental friendliness, give a unique touch of chic and royal gloss to the interior, but rather deserve a separate discussion. As well as coverings made of leather, again called natural.

The design of natural wallpaper may involve a combination of several varieties:

  • bamboo and jute;
  • bamboo and sisal;
  • arrowroot and bamboo;
  • reed and golden flower;
  • reed and bamboo;
  • sisal and jute;
  • reeds and grass.

Various combinations affect not only the service life or overall quality wallpaper, but also on their structure and shade.

The raw materials used for the manufacture of such coatings grow, are collected and undergo primary processing in South-East Asia, where local residents have a very impressive experience in the cultivation and further pre-production preparation of these plants, which are subsequently called upon to become fibers for creating wallpaper.

Plant wallpaper production process

  • Plants are carefully collected, washed and dried naturally under the influence of sun and wind.
  • Then they are selected for thickness and color.
  • After that, the selected components are woven manually or on special machines.
  • From the strips formed in this way with natural threads (mostly the same materials that were used to make a piece of wallpaper), canvases are sewn together. They are glued to the base.
  • The coloring process also corresponds to the declared “natural” process. The base and front side glued together are colored using natural dyes. Due to the natural origin of the coloring pigments, the shades are obtained as close as possible to natural green, golden, cran, brown yellow tones, very soothing and pleasing to the eye.

Pasting natural wallpaper

  • Unlike other types of modern wall coverings, natural wallpaper can not be used in all rooms of the house. It is clear that for the bathroom and any room where high humidity they won't fit.

  • This rule also applies to the kitchen. Even with a high-quality and powerful ventilation system, foreign odors are very quickly absorbed by natural fibers, and they are not designed for cleaning. Therefore, the area of their "habitat" should be designated exclusively as living quarters with a stable microclimate: a bedroom, a living room, a nursery (unless, of course, the child is old enough not to draw on the wallpaper). The hallway is undesirable, but a possible option.
  • Many designers use this material as a decorative and original finish for pieces of furniture or interior items. This is worth remembering if trimmings remain in the pasting process.
  • If the question arises, how to glue natural wallpaper, then everything is simple here. For them, regular glue based on modified starch diluted a little thicker than the manufacturer recommends for heavy wallpaper is perfect.

The main pros and cons of using natural wallpaper

To finally get an idea of this type of material as natural wallpaper, you should know their "strong and weak sides". Such information will help either make a final decision in favor of their use or refuse to purchase.

So the pros:

  • The first and main positive point is the use of environmentally friendly components. In our age of the dominance of artificial and not natural materials many appreciate just such closeness natural environment habitat.
  • Unsurpassed aesthetic qualities worthy of true connoisseurs of natural diversity and at the same time minimalism. This can be seen in every component of the wallpaper - from natural shades to the subtle aroma of herbs and plants. They are beautiful, like everything that is created by nature.

  • Contrary to the fears of many potential buyers, the colors remain and do not fade for a very long time.
  • They have a (albeit low in terms of performance) ability to absorb noise. In addition, natural coatings are "breathable", that is, they do not interfere with natural ventilation.

To make the review honest, we will describe the disadvantages of such wallpapers, which are expressed as follows:

  • fragility. Compared, for example, with vinyl counterparts, natural samples are less durable. Only extremely careful attitude and safety from moisture can extend the service life.
  • Environmentally friendly wallpaper, as mentioned at the beginning of the article, is available in rolls with a small width. Therefore, joints during pasting are guaranteed a large number of. True, and this "defect" designers offer to beat. Such a “flaw” is simply proposed to be skillfully masked, say:
    • bamboo slats,
    • planks from other natural materials,
    • braid or lacing, suitable for natural "natural" forms.

  • The last on our list (but far from least) negative point is the price. Basically, it is she who becomes the reason for refusing to purchase natural wallpaper. Yes, the cost of a roll, starting from $25, can cool any ardor. But here it is worth remembering the production process. Manual labor is always highly valued, but here it is painstaking and long work, plus the composition of the coating. … And pricing is already making sense. However, the decision in any case remains only with the consumer.

Let's make a reservation that some of the descriptions do not characterize all types of natural wallpaper as a whole, for example, the durable characteristics of bamboo coatings were mentioned above.

How to care for natural wallpaper

  • They do not require complex maintenance during operation. Dust is cleaned with a soft flannel cloth in the direction along the fibers, and then across. You can even carefully vacuum such wallpapers from time to time, only the power should be set to the minimum, and the nozzle should be used as usual (without additional brushes to remove wool).

Despite the disadvantages that any wall covering has, the use of natural wallpaper in the finishing of rooms is undoubtedly a fresh trend and original solution. In the manufacture of natural wallpaper is most often used manual labor, so their cost is not the lowest. Add to this natural material that needs to be collected, dried or processed in a special way, then sorted and glued to the base. It will turn out to be a rather lengthy and scrupulous process both in time and in labor costs.

Advantages and disadvantages of natural wallpaper

The main plus of these wallpapers is their natural component. Among all synthetic materials, they compare favorably.

Among the shortcomings, it should be noted the ability to absorb moisture, odors, the fragility of some types of wallpaper, as well as the difficulty of gluing (sometimes you can’t do without the involvement of professionals). Still, almost all types of wallpaper are poorly cleaned - they cannot be wetted, mechanical impact is not allowed and is not used. household chemicals, in most cases only a vacuum cleaner is used. If this can be called a disadvantage, then the increased price due to the complex production process is a disadvantage for many who want to purchase a natural product.

How natural wallpaper is used in the interior

Due to its natural origin, this type of finishing materials brings peace, comfort and serenity to the interior. They can be used to decorate the entire room, or you can single out one zone with them, as, for example, in the case of bamboo wallpaper.

There are no restrictions in terms of color - modern market materials offers both dark and light shades of natural wallpaper. However, stereotypes work clearly - and older buyers often go to the store for light, natural, pastel shades, while young people are much more willing to experiment by adding dark colors to interiors.

Another advantage of using natural wallpaper in the interior is their compatibility with others. natural materials- wood and stone. Together with them, they coexist in nature and also together in apartments and houses.

Features of gluing natural wallpaper

Due to the fact that each type of wallpaper is made of various materials and has a run-up in weight, dimensions and base options, then gluing natural wallpaper occurs in different ways. For each on our website there is a separate article, so you can familiarize yourself with the nuances of installation. Here we will collect only some recommendations that it is desirable to take into account in the process of gluing.

In conclusion, it should be said that natural wallpaper is a great choice for everyone who not only follows the latest trends modern fashion but prefers to look to the future. Let's hope that the hour is not long when people refuse synthetic food, clothing and building materials and give preference to all natural.

They are of natural origin, do not contain chemical substances and dyes. Today, interior designers are increasingly turning to, the natural beauty of which can ease the hustle and bustle of urban everyday life and awaken in the soul a feeling of lightness, cleanliness and carelessness, which you experience only during hours of communication with nature.

Materials for manufacturing natural decorative wallpaper may be different: vegetable fibers (goldflower, sesal, jute), wood veneer, cork, bamboo, also existnatural wallpaper made from mixed natural fibers. Natural wallpaper can have a different base - paper or non-woven, which directly affects the technology of their installation.

Sticker of natural wallpaper on paper and non-woven base

Sticker of natural wallpaper on a paper basis or non-woven not much different from stickers of other types of wallpaper that have the same base.

The first step is to prepare the walls. If there is an old layer of wallpaper on the walls, then it must be removed. Doing this "dry" is not recommended, as you can inadvertently tear off part of the plaster. In addition, this method creates a huge amount of dust around, which is also unpleasant. For painless removal of old wallpaper, they must be moistened warm water and leave for ten minutes. Then, using an iron brush or spatula, clean the walls. Cleaned walls should be checked for cracks and all kinds of recesses. If there are any, then they must be sealed. If a fungus or mold is found, then they must be treated with special antifungal compounds. After all the manipulations, you need to allow the walls to dry. Be aware that any stains left by the wall treatment may appear on the outside of your new natural wallpaper and spoil its appearance.

Let's move on to the natural ones. To do this, cut off the required length, leaving a margin for trimming (5-10 cm). If natural wallpaper has a non-woven base, then glue should be applied only to the wall, in this case glue cannot be applied to the wallpaper. If the pasted natural wallpaper has a paper base, then it all depends on the surface of the walls.

If the walls of the room absorb moisture well, then it is recommended to apply both to the surface of the wall and to the paper base of natural wallpaper. In cases where the surface of the walls absorbs moisture very poorly, it is recommended to apply glue only on the paper base of the wallpaper to be glued. It must be remembered here that excessive wetting can lead to the fact that paper base wallpaper may peel off.

Sticking starts from the window, when installing the first strip, use building level(plumb line). Natural wallpaper is pressed against the wall and smoothed with a dry cloth, moving from the middle to the edges. Wallpaper glue that has inadvertently got on the outside of the wallpaper is removed with a damp sponge.

Natural wallpaper paste butt. Sticking these is best done together, when one person stands, for example, on a stepladder, leveling the top, and the second holds and levels the bottom. For the correct pasting of the corner, the wallpaper must be cut along the intersection line and pasting should be continued on the other side of the corner. In those areas where the doors are located, gluing continues as if there were no openings. Then the canvas that closes the opening is trimmed. If the wallpaper is glued near the window, then it is necessary to leave the edges of the wallpaper protruding inward, and, having bent the edges inward, cut the canvas along the resulting fracture.

Before gluing the natural ones, all sockets and switches must be dismantled. When installing the wallpaper in the area of the nest of such an outlet (switch), first make a cut crosswise, and only then carefully cut the wallpaper along the edge of the nest.

Experts, as noted, argue that if a joint is noticeable in pasted natural wallpaper, then there is nothing to worry about, on the contrary, this once again emphasizes the naturalness of your wall covering.
