How to decorate the most mirror in a wooden frame. Do-it-yourself wooden frame for a mirror: preparation of elements, assembly and finishing

It is easy to diversify the interior with your own hands. An ordinary mirror can be turned into a work of art thanks to a frame of your own making. For decoration, you can use both expensive and valuable materials, and improvised means. The right frame design for the mirror will make any room more stylish.

Homemade frames for mirrors have their own characteristics and advantages.

Among the majority it is worth noting the following:

  • You can choose the material yourself. So, you can create an environmentally friendly frame. Often, manufacturers treat products with chemicals that can harm you. In the case of self-manufacturing, this property is excluded.
  • Product budget. Making a frame will require less financial costs than buying it.
  • Uniqueness. You are free in your imagination and can create a unique product. Additional decor can be very diverse, from ribbons to wood carvings. This item is especially important for those who love original solutions.

If you decide to make a frame with your own hands, then get ready for creative dilemmas. When choosing a material, rely on your own preferences and the general style of the apartment. A frame for a mirror can even be built from paper tubes or cardboard. By the way, the smallest members of the family can be involved in the manufacture of such a frame. Consider the most interesting materials.

These products are lightweight and durable. Frames can be installed in rooms with high humidity. If you are given the color of the product, just repaint it. Models made of polyurethane baguette are suitable for round and oval mirrors. Baguette frame is easy to manufacture, the material is easy to cut and behaves obediently during operation.

Certain skills will help you if you need a metal frame. An aluminum frame will require less effort. This material is thin and docile. Forged model - the height of professionalism. This frame will add luxury and charm to the room.

Oddly enough, the mirror frame is very popular. It is not difficult to make it, it is enough to purchase that very special coated glass. So you can build a frame from many small mirrors.

The soft frame is an interesting and original option. Leather construction can be voluminous. To do this, fill it with synthetic winterizer or other similar filler. Alternatively, you can use leatherette. This will be more budget friendly. These mirror frames will fit perfectly into the interior of a bedroom or living room.

Fans of non-standard solutions can make a frame from a rope or a rope. Such a model will perfectly fit into the style of any room of the apartment. Avoid this framing of mirrors in the bathroom and kitchen, as moisture and temperature changes will not benefit the material. Moreover, such a frame is not so easy to clean.

Such material can be both primary and secondary. For example, you can fill the bamboo cavity with mounting foam or just make such an original finish.

Interesting and noble material. If you have woodworking skills, then you can make a carved frame or burn out a drawing. If there are no skills, then use branches. From them you can build an original decor with your children. What’s more, you don’t even have to spend money on material - just walk around and collect branches of the right size. You can make a plywood base and glue natural materials on it.

More often, the material is used as an addition, but the entire product can also be built from gypsum. Gypsum stucco can decorate a frame made of wood or any similar material. For greater aesthetics, paint all the coatings in one color. Such a model will fit well into a room with an interior in the style of classics, retro, baroque.

Color must be chosen carefully. Evaluate the overall color scheme of the room and choose either a similar or contrasting color. Black and white frames are considered classics. Such universal colors will fit into any interior. A great option if you do not want to focus on the mirror.

Decorate your living room with a bronze or gold frame. So, you will focus on the mirror. Such a product looks rich and elegant. Feng Shui advises making frames in such a way that they attract attention. It is believed that a mirror with this design brings good luck, and also attracts positive energy.

An interesting option is a colored frame. Such a product is suitable for any room, will bring brightness to the interior. You need to choose colors deliberately so that they do not enter into dissonance with the overall design. You can use not only a colored base, but also a colorful decor on a white background.

You can make a frame for a mirror from any material that you like. Creating a product from improvised means does not require special expenses and can become a real family entertainment. Want to make a quick decor for an oval or round mirror?

  • Using a marker and a ruler, make a pattern around the circle.
  • Stick a film or tape on the mirror that does not leave marks. Get outside the mirror to make it easier to remove the film later.
  • Armed with a special knife that does not scratch mirrors, cut lines in the film in accordance with the pattern.
  • Take a can of spray paint and spray the entire surface of the mirror.
  • After complete drying, remove the film and enjoy the result.

For mirrors of this shape, you can make a frame of 7-8 toilet paper bushings. For the base, take thick plywood. Paint the workpiece black, after drying, glue the mirror. Paint the bushings in the same color, and after drying, cut them into circles of 1 cm, give the shape of leaves.

  • Glue the leaves of 5 pieces: we fix 4 leaves at the corners, and glue the last one on top. So, the workpiece is like a little man with legs, arms and a head. We also glue all the leaves.
  • Using hot glue, attach the blanks to the base of the mirror. Here you can show your imagination and group the blanks at your own discretion.
  • Next, you need a mirror mount. For a thick and heavy product, you will need 2 fasteners, and for a light one, one is enough. Thread a rope or wire through them, make a loop.

For a large floor mirror, you can make a massive, heavy frame. A simple, no-frills, wooden frame and decor from small vases in which you can put flowers or useful things will work well. This mirror is both beautiful and functional. For a rectangular and square mirror, make a frame out of wood or a ceiling plinth.

A homemade wooden frame will decorate any mirror. For manufacturing you will need the following:

The key material can be anything. A simple wooden frame can be made from twigs or saw cut, even driftwood can be used. The main thing is that the material is dry, otherwise deformation or decay cannot be avoided. Carved frames are made from natural walnut, cedar or wenge. Carving requires special skills, so sketches may be needed, but for beginners it will be extremely difficult to do such work. You can also use MDF and similar materials.

All elements of the frame must be securely fastened. Otherwise, the product will simply fall apart during use. Fastening elements include corners, carpentry glue, self-tapping screws. All this you can find in the nearest hardware store.

This item includes paints, varnishes, ropes, stones, and more. There are no restrictions, and it all depends on your wishes. Please note that an overabundance of decorative elements spoils the aesthetics of the frame.

To make a simple frame, a hacksaw for wood and a hammer is enough. For more complex options, you may need a screwdriver, electric jigsaw, circular saw. To create a carved frame, get a set of cutters.

Master class on making a simple frame in 5 steps:

  • For the manufacture we use a door frame made of wood. Knowing the basics of carpentry will help you make a concise frame for a mirror.
  • We make 4 elements for each side of the mirror. The inner edge of the fragment should be 1 cm shorter than the corresponding side of the base. You need to cut the parts at an angle of 45 degrees.
  • On the reverse side of the slats, make small indentations to accommodate the mirror sheet.
  • Use building corners to fasten planks. They will serve to fasten the canvas itself.
  • As a decor, you can paint the product and cover it with a special varnish.

The material gives vent to imagination, so you can choose the pattern and width yourself. A frame for a mirror from a ceiling plinth is easy to make. First, fix the mirror itself on chipboard or plywood. Such a simple manipulation gives a guarantee of reliability.

  • Cut 4 sides out of the ceiling plinth. The length of the inner edge should correspond to the length of the corresponding side of the mirror.
  • Connect the parts with hot glue.
  • Cover the product with putty on all sides. Wait for complete drying.
  • The frame with your own hands is almost ready. At this stage, it needs to be painted and varnished. To give it an old look, you should treat the product with a sponge with gold paint.

The design of the frame includes the choice of shape, color and additional decor. In this matter, you can give free rein to your imagination and make an exclusive work of art. Strict and concise frames look good in some interior styles and in work rooms (offices). In other cases, approach the issue of design with creativity.

There are four classic frame shapes: circle, oval, square and rectangle. These products are truly versatile. It is easy to make a standard mirror frame and it will fit perfectly into any style of interior. True, it is not at all necessary to be limited to such a set of forms. Geometry throws up a lot of interesting options. For example, you can make a frame in the form of a polygon or a box.

Create a cloud-shaped frame and place some round mirrors in it. Products in the form of animals will amaze your guests. You can put such a mirror in front of everyone. Choose an animal either among your favorites, or among those that are easier to make. Flower frames also look great.

The mirror plays an important role in the interior - it can reformat the space. The mirror obediently displays the environment, so it is not destined to become an alien object in the room. Moreover, it can easily get lost, “dissolve” in the surrounding interior, and only the frame can prevent this.

And here the richest opportunities for the designer open up. Because a frame for a mirror is not at all the same as a frame for a picture. The picture and the frame make up one whole, but the mirror lives its own, independent life. The frame has to do the same, nothing else remains.

A frame for a mirror is an independent, full-fledged object of the interior of the room, and it is supposed to be decorated in a decent way.

Mirrors to be framed may be different. You can buy a standard mirror in an inconspicuous cheap design; it can be initially inserted into a flat wide frame, by analogy with a frame for posters and photos; They sell mirrors without frames at all.

Depending on the original shape of the mirror, the design for the frame is also chosen. On a flat wide frame, decoupage, rope, mosaic coating, and many others will look good. But other forms of frames and the mirrors themselves are quite amenable to re-registration.

The only thing you need to worry about is the mounting methods.

1. It is useful to stick a mirror on thick cardboard, especially in cases where it is unframed or too narrow.

2. The joint of the frame with the mirror should be strengthened, masking tape is suitable for this. In this case, you will be sure that the mirror will not fall out of the frame and remain intact.

3. Select the glue in advance, it will be most convenient to work with a hot glue gun. It's called a thermostat. Just do not get the glue on the mirror itself, on those places where the glue should not be.

We choose one of the ideas for decorating the frame and do it all with our own hands!

Mosaic

This material is a very comfortable decorative material, plastic and elegant. It is best suited for rectangular-shaped mirrors with a flat initial frame. Or for mirrors bought without frames at all. But, if you use a broken mosaic, then the shape of the mirror does not matter, and the frame itself will turn out to be modern, in the Gaudi style.

To work with mosaic elements, you need to purchase tile grout.

Rope

The use of rope as a decorative material is customary in different styles. It is fashionable and suitable for a marine theme, for various ecological shades of the interior. It is possible to build a rope frame for a mirror of the most intricate shape, but it is especially suitable for round mirrors.

Rope layers must be fastened together, and not just glued to the base. You can use not only a rope, but also twine and plaits of a different nature. All these are affordable and inexpensive materials that can produce a fair decorative effect.

Wood

This material is in great demand in the interior of any style, because it is warm, natural, able to make the room cozy and pleasant. Next to the mirror glass, the wooden details will become more visible, in this case the mirror acts as a catalyst.

The material can be any part of the tree, in its ennobled or original form. The frame made up of round cut surfaces looks lovely. But the frame of knots and twigs, similar to a bird's nest, is original in its own way. And the wide rim, covered in a picturesque mess with pieces of bark and chips, looks like an abstract masterpiece in general.

A wooden structure must be varnished or at least impregnated with a protective compound, then it will always be fresh and beautiful. It is not forbidden to paint it if the environment requires it. Sometimes the color of the paint is very intense.

shells

Another type of natural material. After a trip to the sea, a lot of shells appear in the house, which the hand cannot be thrown away, and there is nowhere to put them. So there was a great opportunity to find a useful application for them. Most importantly, it will be possible, looking at the frame of the mirror, to remember where and by whom this or that shell was found.

The material is comfortable, you can combine shells in shape, size, even paint in different colors.

pebbles

Here is a great material for design creativity, and it can also be applied to various interior styles. If you take, for example, a pebble, then it will fit perfectly into the eco-style. Pebbles of a pleasant tone, smooth, processed by nature itself, and you can select flat ones, with a given thickness. The frame will turn out exquisite, with a noble and restrained character.

A frame made of artificial stones - transparent, cheerful, of different colors, sizes and shapes - will bring a completely different mood to the room. They can be ranked in order, selecting the same ones, or you can construct a picturesque shimmering hodgepodge. Glass balls look extremely organic next to the mirror surface.

Decoupage

Now it is fashionable, and if you have already been reworking furniture using the decoupage method, then you don’t need to invent anything. A mirror, especially in a flat wide frame, seems to be created for this technique. Decoupage glue is needed here, ordinary PVA is also suitable.

old toys

Extremely interesting is the frame around the mirror, made up of your children's old toys. If they are boys, then surely you will have a whole fleet of miniature toy cars in your house. They can all be assembled and arranged decoratively around the mirror around the perimeter. You can paint them all the same color, such as gold or silver. The frame made up of cars will look unexpectedly elegant.

But, in principle, you can take any toys, and place mirrors around the perimeter in a picturesque mess. From time to time, you can decoratively set aside the tail of a dinosaur, or the wing of an airplane, or the trunk of an elephant, or the nozzle of a rocket. Then all this is covered with paint and looks incomprehensible, but extremely entertaining.

As you can see, doing a private matter, decorating the frame of a single mirror, you can improve the decoration of the room by introducing a new shade into it. With successful improvisation, a real highlight can turn out.

Of course, every owner dreams of making the interior of his residential building in an interesting unique style that will not be like any other. For these purposes, accessories from famous designers are used, but this will require a considerable amount of money from the family budget.

A completely ordinary do-it-yourself mirror frame will help to complement pieces of furniture, and even surpass many design masterpieces.

It is no secret that a mirror in a home is an important and necessary item, but besides this, it serves as a beautiful component of the interior environment, which will advantageously expand the free area and fill the room with additional lighting.

The mirror surface itself does not attract the eye; the framing itself (frame), made in a unique style, makes it beautiful.

Frames from improvised materials

Even an ordinary old rarity can be reborn and decorated on your own, using the most common improvised items and even products.

For decoration, a variety of food products are advantageously used: dry pasta, coffee grains, peas and cereals. The photo of the frame for the mirror shows a variant of making frames from pasta of various configurations and shapes, which are carefully and properly glued around the entire perimeter.

To perform a certain conceived pattern, it is necessary to evenly distribute them along the entire mirror canvas. In any case, the frame will be individual: both products lined with a certain ornament, and laid out in a chaotic manner.

At the end of the work, it is appropriate to close the product with a cloth (masking tape) and spray spray paint onto the surface.

Skirting for ceilings perfectly imitates wood, and it is much lighter in weight category. It is recommended to start work by fixing the mirror on a plywood sheet or chipboard in order to achieve a more reliable fixation of the fasteners on the wall.

We cut out each side of the frame in the same type of wooden version, correctly aligning the corners. But the size of the inner edge must exactly match the length of the side of the mirror. You can easily connect all the parts with a glue gun.

The effect of an old luxurious piece of furniture will be given by golden paint, which is applied with an ordinary sponge in strokes. This frame will be light in weight and unique in its design.

If there are stucco details in the interior of a residential building, it is wise to use a similar decoration for a mirror. The building materials market offers a wide range of decorations made of plaster or plastic materials, which can later be turned into an amazing picture.

The base should protrude beyond the edge of the canvas and be painted in a light, white, or colored shade. Having fixed the canvas, the stucco molding is fixed along the entire base of the mat with silicone glue.

Mosaic pieces in the interior

This design, most often, is created for a bathroom of absolutely any style, since the fragments left after repair, unnecessary ceramic tiles, serve as the basis for decoration. The main task is the correct selection of the pattern.

The modern minimalist style suggests the presence of complex geometric ornaments, abstraction. Floral motif, plants and grass are appropriate in a rustic interior.

Before making a frame for the mirror, the canvas is mounted on a sheet of wood, and the selected pattern is applied in a circle. Then, with a flat cutter, parts are cut out of the tile, giving them a certain shape and applying them to the frame.

If the initial sketch turned out to be successful, you can safely fix the fragments with adhesive on the frame, then wait for the product to dry completely (maximum one day)

An ordinary mirror without a frame, of course, will not replace an exclusive product in a luxurious frame, moreover, it will favorably emphasize the theme of the interior and its originality!

Photo frames for a mirror

You can imagine a living room or hallway without paintings, vases, figurines and other artsy accessories, but without a mirror - no way! Indeed, this item is necessary in any home, not only to look at your reflection, but also to decorate the surroundings. Often factory mirrors look faceless, unable to reflect the individuality of the room.

Fortunately, an outstanding do-it-yourself mirror decor helps to solve the problem of facelessness. Let's look at the most unusual ways of decorating.

3 tricks for aging a mirror

The mirror with a touch of antiquity looks solemn and tasteful. Naturally, such an item is in perfect harmony with the classic or vintage style - in a modern setting, it looks lurid. How to create the effect of artificial aging at home?

Reception 1 - chemical etching. To form a plaque, it is necessary to purchase a tinted or silver base, etched with a chemical composition. The resulting patina does not reduce the reflectivity, so the mirrors retain their versatility.

Reception 2 - eglomise. The decoration of the mirror with the eglomise technique is quite laborious. It involves the imposition of thin sheets of potali with a gold or silver coating on the base. The main advantage of this technique is the ability to insert a photo between layers for greater decorativeness. Such a mirror acts as an independent art object, but its reflectivity is rather low.

Reception 3 - aging with craquelure / acrylic. To achieve the effect of archaism, it is not necessary to process the entire surface of the mirror - it is enough to age the frame with your own hands. To do this, you will need acrylic paints or craquelure varnish. Paint the frame with silver acrylic, and after drying, apply a mixture of blue and green paint to the surface.

Stucco frame ideas

One of the main features of styles such as baroque, empire and retro classic is the use of stucco. The mirror is no exception. For decorating a mirror with your own hands, both a gypsum mixture and plastic are suitable. Stucco elements can be bought or made independently using ready-made molds.

The base frame itself is made from white MDF sheets. After drying, stucco elements are attached to the frame with silicone glue. Then the remaining glue is removed with a sponge, and the finished molding is painted with white (gold, silver) acrylic paint.

Decorating mirrors with moldings

An easier way to make an original mirror frame is to use ready-made moldings / skirting boards. Styrofoam skirting boards are available in a wide variety of variations, imitating more expensive gypsum stucco. To decorate the frame, you will need an MDF sheet protruding beyond the edges of the mirror. Moldings are attached to the protruding part of the plywood. So that the frame does not look cheap, it is covered with acrylic paints; joints are sealed with putty.

DIY wood mirror frame

Nothing looks more harmonious in the interior than wood. In addition to excellent physical characteristics, this material has an aesthetic appeal, which is why it is considered an excellent tool for creating an original do-it-yourself mirror decor. It is customary to frame square and rectangular mirrors with simple wooden borders, but you can experiment with rounded products.

A mirror-sun looks very unusual in any interior. To make it, you will need wooden blocks (twigs of trees), a plywood frame according to the size of the product, a primer, a glue gun, wood glue, spray paint, sandpaper.

First, we lay the blocks with wedges around the perimeter of the frame. To simulate the sun's rays, it is necessary to alternate short and long bars. Apply glue to the frame and hold each branch for 15-20 seconds. After drying, remove the remaining glue with sandpaper, apply a primer from the spray and leave for 1 hour. After that, cover the sun frame with paint or clear varnish.

Instead of sticks, you can use ordinary wooden clothespins. Just a few minutes - and the frame for the mirror is ready!

Screen painting on the mirror

In order to decorate a mirror, you do not need to be an artist or a hand-made master. It is enough to buy stencils and apply them to the canvas. About everything in order.

We apply the finished stencil to the mirror surface, and then carefully glue it with a roller, preventing air from getting under the film. We apply matting paste on the stencil (not on the coated surface), carefully spread it over the entire film and leave it for 15 minutes. After that, the paste should be removed, and the mirror should be washed under running water. Finally, carefully remove the film from the stencil.

None of us can imagine life without a mirror. Someone has it only in the bathroom, while someone has it in every room at home. Designers often include mirrors in the style of the interior they create. What makes them different? Sizes, shapes and ... frames.

If you have been looking for a mirror of your dreams for a long time or want to experiment with the old one, read this article, in it you will find 4 detailed master classes on how to make a designer frame for a mirror with your own hands. Each of the methods is presented as a master class, where the manufacture of the frame is described in stages.

Watching the master class, you will learn how to make frames from wood, from paper tubes, a creative frame for an oval mirror, a twine frame, a cloud frame, a wire frame. You will definitely find a suitable option and understand that a do-it-yourself mirror frame is not at all difficult!

What could be more unusual? What could be easier? Check out this original and budget friendly paper tube mirror frame idea.

Mirror frame made of paper tubes

Materials and tools:

  • 7 bushings from toilet paper rolls;
  • a round piece of thick plywood;
  • round mirror;
  • black paint;
  • fasteners for a mirror;
  • wire, rope or cord;
  • scissors;
  • glue gun (hot glue) and PVA glue.

Frame assembly process

Step 1.

First, let's prepare the details for the frame. Take paper tubes and paint them well with black paint inside and out. Let's leave to dry. Paint the wood base black. Also leave to dry completely. Black will look stylish, but you can use any other paint.

Step 2

After the bushings have dried, we press each of them and cut off by a centimeter (5-6 pieces from one tube). In shape, they should look like leaves. Thus, we cut all the bushings.

Step 3

When the base for the mirror is dry, take a glue gun and apply it to the back of the mirror. We firmly press the mirror to the front side of the tree and leave the hot glue to cool completely. Put aside.

Step 4

  • We glue the cut leaflets between each other in 5 pieces, as shown in the photo.

Please note that all groups of leaves must be the same. To do this, first we take 4 leaves and glue them with PVA in the corners to each other, and already glue the 5th leaf to them from above.

  • We repeat this until we glue all the leaves of 5 pieces.
  • Using a hot gun, glue the groups of sheets to the wooden frame of the mirror. We apply glue pointwise, remove the excess immediately, until the glue has dried.
  • This part of the work is perhaps the most responsible - you need to make sure that so that all the leaves are on the same level.

If you still have leaves, you can continue to glue them between groups to make it look like in the next photo.

Step 5

The final stage of the master class is the manufacture of the mount.

  • We take special fasteners for the mirror and install it on the back side of the wooden base in one or two places. If the mirror is not heavy, one will be enough.
  • We drag the wire, twine or rope through the mount and tighten. It turns out a loop.

Now you can hang a mirror in the room, or, for example, in the hallway. She looks so fashionable that no one would guess what such a patterned frame was made of.

Master class number 2. Creative frame for an oval mirror

If you have ever used a glass cutter, making this frame will not be difficult for you. If you have never held it in your hands and are afraid to work with it, you are right on this master class. You will be able to overcome your fear, because it's worth it!

Materials and tools:

  • glass cutter;
  • mirror (any one will do - we will make the shape ourselves);
  • metal ruler;
  • adhesive tape or sticky paper (which does not leave marks on the mirror);
  • protractor (or corner);
  • marker;
  • a special knife that does not scratch the surface of the mirror;
  • gloves and goggles;
  • fine sandpaper;
  • gold paint (spray);
  • fixing varnish.

The procedure for installing such a mirror with your own hands:

Step 1.

Let's prepare the mirror - wipe it from dust and put it on a stable hard surface. We will produce an original octagonal or oval mirror.

  1. If the mirror was square - well, you will only need to cut off the corners from it.
  2. If it was round, then you must first bring it to a square shape, so that it is easier to make an octagon.

Step 2

  1. We cut off the corners of the square in the following way: we apply a protractor or a corner to the corner of the square, measure 45 degrees and make serifs on both sides. Repeat this around the entire perimeter of the mirror.
  2. Then, using a marker and a ruler, we draw 4 lines through the serifs - these will be 4 cuts. If you feel more confident wearing goggles and gloves, put them on before starting work.
  3. We apply a metal ruler along the line and, holding it tightly, making light pressure on the glass cutter, draw it along the ruler.

This must be done carefully so that the glass cutter does not move out of the line, otherwise you will have to do a lot of additional work.

After that, chip off a piece of cut glass in one motion by pressing on it. Do not be afraid that the mirror will break, you will only hear a small click. Repeat on 4 sides.

Step 2

After the mirror has become octagonal, proceed directly to its frame. At first wipe it down with detergent.

Glue adhesive paper to the entire front surface of the mirror. With use a marker and a ruler to mark the surface as shown in the photo.

In order:

  1. we draw lines from each side to the opposite - it turned out 8 parts.
  2. Put dots in the middle of each side and draw 2 identical squares along them (They will be at an angle to each other).
  3. Lastly, draw lines from the middle of each side to the midpoints of adjacent sides.

Step 3

We take a special knife that does not scratch the surface of the mirror and cut out strips along the lines (according to the original plan).

The strips can be any thickness, from 2-5 mm to 2 cm, as you like.

Note! That we do not cut out the very center - this will be an area without decor.

Step 4

After all the stripes are cut out, the mirror is almost ready for painting. Before that, you need to lightly rub the edges of the mirror with sandpaper so that after painting there are no sloppy spots left.

Step 5

Apply spray paint to the entire mirror and wait for the paint to dry. We also recommend applying a second layer of varnish - later it will be more convenient to clean the mirror.

And now - the final stage of making a frame for a mirror with your own hands - remove the adhesive tape between the strips. Gently pry off and pull together, piece by piece. Gradually, the whole pattern appears.

Mirror done! You can put it on the table or hang it on the wall with the special clips. Now you know that working with a glass cutter opens up a lot of opportunities to improve your home interior.

Master class number 6. Wire frame

Despite the use of such a simple improvised material as wire, the frame for the mirror made in this master class turns out to be interesting, iridescent and unique!

Materials and tools:

  • Mirror;
  • polystyrene foam sheet (can be bought at a hardware store);
  • thick wires of gold (copper) color (5 packs);
  • gold acrylic paint;
  • pencil or marker;
  • wire cutters (for wire);
  • glue gun (hot glue);
  • a piece of twine;
  • short nail;
  • scissors.

Assembly process

Step 1.

First, let's prepare the base for the mirror.

  1. We impose a mirror on a sheet of expanded polystyrene. Outline with a pencil or marker. Now we measure another 2-3 cm from this circle and circle the second circle. On this mark, cut out a circle with a knife.
  2. Paint the base circle gold. You need to paint over evenly, from all sides. We leave to dry. After drying, we evaluate the color saturation and, if necessary, paint over a second time.

Step 2

While the paint dries, we take wire cutters and wire and cut the wires 30-50 cm long. The length depends on how long you want the rays to be from the box. Keep in mind that the wire will be bent in half.

Step 3

We bend the wires, in half, but not perfectly even, but with bends, as shown in the photo and as the inner voice advises you.

When all the wires are bent and the base for the mirror is dry, insert both ends of one wire into the Styrofoam.

You need to insert at one point and to a depth of 2-4 cm. So the material will better hold the wire-beams.

Step 4

We insert the rays on 4 sides of the frame with a cross, in the direction in all directions of the world. Then we insert the rays between them. So we get a uniform distribution of rays in all directions. Don't be afraid of overlaps, this will not spoil the frame in any way, on the contrary, curved rays will add sparkle and variety. After all, we are creating, and therefore unevenness is not condemned here, but welcomed!

Step 5

Attach the mirror to the frame. To do this, apply hot glue to the back of the mirror and place it exactly in the center of the golden circle. Press firmly so that the glue grabs and leave until the glue cools completely.

Step 6

While the glue is cooling, we will make the final touch - a twine mirror mount. We measure the required length of the rope, cut it off and make a strong knot.

We put a short carnation (slightly less than the thickness of the gold frame) through the knot and fix it with hot glue.

Immediately insert this carnation from the back of the frame into the foam. Better not in the middle, but about 1/3 from the top edge of the frame.

Such a mirror can be hung on the wall in any room - it has earned the title of universal thanks to its light sophistication, the simplicity of the materials from which it is made, and the warm, golden, rich color.

Frame production steps:

First, we make templates for mirrors.

  1. Take pot lids in diameter 6-8 cm more than the diameter of the mirrors and circle them with a marker on paper. Then cut out.
  2. When all the circles are cut out, place them on a table or any flat surface to determine how the mirrors will be placed.

In our example, it turns out that the 3 largest mirrors are placed at the bottom along the arc, and the other two complement them from above.

Step 2

  1. With PVA glue, glue the circles together - this will be the mirror template.
  2. After drying, we transfer the template to the foam board and circle it.
  3. You can attach mirrors and see how it will look.

Step 3

If you are satisfied with the shape of the cloud, we cut out one solid figure from the foam panel with a knife - along the outer edges of the template.

This must be done evenly and accurately, since this is the front side of the mirror.

Step 4

We make holes for the mirrors. To do this, we again take a knife and make bushings for each mirror. They should be small in depth. But most importantly, they should not be wider, but a little narrower than a mirror, so that it fits snugly to its edges.

Step 5

  • In two places where it is supposed to insert a mirror, it is necessary to make fasteners. This must be done before finishing work with the frame, because. after you spoil the front side of the mirror with holes.
  • We determine the center of gravity of the mirror and calculate where the mounts will be in order to evenly distribute the weight of the mirror. Let's note them.
  • Then, with a pencil or an awl, we make 2 through holes in the frame. And only after that we proceed to the insertion of mirrors.

Step 6

We take a heated glue gun and apply it to the entire reverse side of the mirror, press it firmly against the base and hold it a little. After a minute, the mirror can be released, soon the glue will cool. The same procedure must be done with each mirror.

We hammer in 2 nails at the distance of the holes made in the frame. Then we install the frame. As a result, a do-it-yourself mirror-cloud is ready and hanging on the wall, delighting adults and children with its whiteness and glare.

So different, in their shape, material, size, color, style, price category ... mirrors for any home, for every taste and color.
