How to properly measure pvc windows. Do-it-yourself measurement of plastic windows? Easily! How to measure a window opening in a wooden house

This article describes how to do to order them from the seller.

To make a preliminary measurement of a plastic window, you need to find out what kind of window opening you have - with or without a quarter.

The figure shows a schematic view of the opening with a quarter (A) and without (B).

I. Measurement of the opening without a window frame.

1. We will measure PVC windows without a quarter.

To do this, take into account that the mounting gap when installing windows should be 20-40 mm (on each side).

To measure the height of the window, it is necessary to subtract 50-60 mm from the size of the opening vertically (30 mm is occupied by the stand profile). And when measuring the width of the window, we also subtract 40-60 mm horizontally from the size of the opening.

At PVC installation windows data 4-6 cm horizontally are filled with mounting foam (2-3 cm on each side of the window).

It is also necessary to measure the length and width of the window sill and the outer ebb and add at least 5 cm to these dimensions so that the window sill is slightly recessed to the right and left into the wall. Window sills and ebbs are produced from 10 to 60 cm wide and 6 m long.

2. We will measure PVC windows with a quarter.

When measuring and installing PVC windows, according to GOST 52749-2007, windows should go beyond the outer slopes from the upper and side sides by 30-60 millimeters.

Measuring window width.

We measure the width of our window opening horizontally.

When measuring the width of the outer slope (dimension A), add 30-60 millimeters.

To check the accuracy of measurement in width, apply these methods:

  1. The width of dimension A must be less than or equal to the distance of dimension B.
  2. The width of the window must certainly be less than the inner window opening (size C).

In case these conditions are not met, I recommend that you contact a qualified window measurer.

Window height measurement.

The size of the window in width and height with a support profile should be 30-60 millimeters smaller than the opening for the mounting seam.

Height measurement accuracy check:

  1. The height of the window, excluding the stand profile, should be less than the distance between the upper inner slope and the window sill (dimension E).
  2. The height of the window, taking into account the stand profile, should be less than the distance from the upper inner slope and the lower edge of the window sill (dimensions E+G).

We measure the window sill and the ebb in the same way as in the version of the opening without a quarter.

As a result, we will have 6 sizes:

II. Measurement of the opening in the presence of an old window.

When in window opening there is already a window, then measurements are made in the same way, only for the window opening, you take the external dimensions window frame.

When ordering a window, be sure to specify what is included in the kit:

  1. Windowsill;
  2. The window sills are provided with plugs. To order them, you need to say the width of the window sill (overhang from the wall).
  3. Mounting profile (mounting profile, sweet clover, heel, window sill profile, etc.);
  4. Fixing components for the window - anchor plates.

In addition, when ordering a window, in addition to its dimensions, you should be asked:

  1. Window profile type:

    3, 4 or 5-chamber;

  2. Type of double-glazed window:

    1, 2, 3-chamber;

  3. Window opening method:

    deaf, with opening, tilt-and-turn with ventilation, tilt-and-turn with ventilation and micro-ventilation.

An example of measuring windows with a quarter!

When measuring the length of the ebb, it is necessary to measure the distance between the right and left quarter and add 50 mm, the excess will be cut off during installation.

Removing the dimensions of the future window is carried out taking into account the features of its opening. Compliance with a number of rules ensures that reliable dimensions are obtained, excluding irreparable errors.

For work you will need:
  • Roulette;
  • Level or plumb;
  • Screwdriver (awl);
  • Pencil;
  • Paper.

The parameters are always taken from the window opening, and not from old frame and boxes. The values are measured and transferred to the drawing in millimeters.

First at closed window"blockage" is checked - a possible deviation of the slopes of the opening from the vertical. A plumb line hangs from the top of the opening to the window sill in the right and left corners of the window. If there is a significant skew (more than 10 mm), the “useful” width of the opening is calculated - the distance between the vertical projections of the upper points rectangular box on the windowsill. 50 mm is subtracted from the resulting number - the average thickness of the mounting gap multiplied by two. The result found will be the estimated window width, and the final value is determined after the outer measurement. A window opens, the width of the gap is measured - the distance between the quarters. Using a screwdriver or an awl, determine the depth of the side protrusions. Comparing the preliminary width of the window and the dimensions of the quarters, adjust the desired value of the width of the window block down. In this case, the frame profile should be closed with protrusions of 35–40 mm. In the case of different thicknesses of the quarters, it is necessary to achieve the symmetry of the window with outer side, sacrificing the internal arrangement, which is later allowed to be corrected. To determine the height of the window block from the street, the distance from the low tide to the upper boundary of the opening is measured. The found value is checked:
  • The awl “scans” the depth of the upper quarter at 2–3 points - 40 mm is enough for the assembly seam and the frame to enter by 1.5–2 cm. A smaller protrusion will require a reduction in window height.
  • The lower quarter is checked - it's good if it is 25 mm. At low depths, the height of the window decreases. For example, instead of 25 mm, 10 mm comes out, which means that 15 mm is subtracted.

Next, the distance from the upper border of the opening to the window sill is measured and compared with the estimated height. There should be a difference of 40–60 mm, which will provide the necessary clearance for the foam at the top of about 20 mm and the location of the lower edge of the new window 10–20 mm higher than the old window sill. The final result is recorded after examining two more nuances:
  1. Checking the horizontal position of the opening by means of a level and taking into account the “blockage”, if necessary.
  2. Inspection of the bottom of the old window - the docked window sill will take 30–40 mm from the required window height.

When measuring the opening without a quarter, the distance between the side walls corresponds to the width of the new window minus 40–60 mm for mounting gaps. The height is calculated by subtracting from the measured distance between the upper and lower walls: 20-30 mm for the seam and 40 mm for the window sill. The length of the drainage corresponds to the size of the opening plus an allowance of 60–80 mm for bends, its width is equal to the depth of the wall plus 50–70 mm. The dimensions of the window sill are calculated as follows:
  • Length - allowances of 80–100 mm are added to the measured width of the opening on both sides.
  • Width - the thickness of the inner part of the wall plus the window sill overhang, plus 20 mm (going under the frame).

When measuring the window sill and drainage, it is taken into account that the thickness

If you decide to replace the old wooden windows modern plastic constructions, first you need to order finished products according to your measurements. Therefore, before ordering, it is necessary to take all measurements from the window opening. This work should be approached very carefully, because not only appearance of the future window, but also the possibility of carrying out its direct functions (heat, moisture and noise insulation). Therefore, further it will be considered how to properly measure a plastic window.

General information on the correct measurement of windows

Measurement of a plastic window must be made both from the outside and from the inside. This is necessary in order to be able to determine the depth of the window opening. Quite often a situation arises when, during measurements, it turns out that the opening is slightly skewed. This happens especially often in panel buildings. In this case, it is necessary to increase the dimensions of the product by the size of the skew.

After you have measured the dimensions of the window opening from the outside, the resulting values \u200b\u200bmust be compared with its internal dimensions. This will allow you to see possible inaccuracies in the calculations, as well as to assess what the lining of the internal slopes should be.

Most window openings have ledges to prevent the window from falling out. These ledges are called quarters.

Ideally, the ledge size is 6.5 cm (1/4 of a brick), but this is only in theory. In practice, the size of a quarter may differ from this value both in a smaller and in big side, and sometimes quarters may be completely absent. Often there are situations when, on the one hand, the protrusion has one meaning, and on the other, another. When taking measurements, such inaccuracies must be taken into account.

The best option is the situation when the plastic window is installed in such a way that:

  1. It was 1.5-2 cm above the edge of the lower quarter, so that it was possible to install a drainage system under the frame.
  2. It went beyond the side ledges by 2-4 cm.
  3. It went beyond the upper ledge by 1.5-2 cm.
  4. The window frame did not touch the walls of the opening, that is, there should be a mounting gap between them equal to at least 4 cm from the bottom and 2-5 cm from the top and sides. Wherein maximum size should be no more than 6 cm, but in some buildings where the protrusions have big size, mounting clearances may be greater than 6 cm.

How to make a window measurement for an opening with a "quarter"?

The window opening is measured in width and height. In the first case, the measurement starts from the outside (Fig. 1, A). In this case, one should take into account the entry of the window for a quarter of 15-25 mm. Based on this, about 30-50 mm should be added to the width of the outer slope, which will be the required value.

Figure 1. Measurement of a window for an opening with a "quarter": A - outer side; B - size with external slopes; C is the size of the window opening.

Width plastic product should not be less than the distance between the quarters, and ideally a little more, that is, it is necessary to ensure that the edges of the window rest against external slopes(Fig. 1, C). At the same time, care must be taken to ensure that its width is not over size opening (Fig. 1, C).

To correctly measure the window height, it follows from the distance between the base of the opening and extreme point subtract 20 mm from the upper protrusion. This is done in order to create mounting seams into which the foam will be blown. After that, 15-25 mm must be added to the obtained value. This will ensure that the plastic window rests on the upper ledge.

If it is planned to carry out installation with a low tide, then 30 mm should be subtracted from the obtained value, because in this case it will be necessary to allocate space for the stand profile. In the case of using a stand profile to create a mounting seam, the dimensions of the window should be 30-70 mm smaller than the opening.

In this case, the process is somewhat different. First, measurements of the window opening are made at several points along the width, from which the smallest value. Then 2-4 cm are subtracted from the resulting width (depending on the width of the window and the evenness of the opening). Height is measured in the same way. In this case, 2.5-4 cm are subtracted from the obtained value.

It should also be possible to install a visor and ebb from the outside to drain rainwater. With this in mind, the lower edge of the plastic window should be higher than the outer edge of the window opening.

Greetings, my brothers and sisters - rukoshops!

In the last page of my blog, we thoroughly examined the process. After reading it, you have probably become a level 80 window installer and you can install it with just the power of thought and that's good! But another important aspect when installing windows is their correct measurement, so that upon arrival at the place your windows clearly fit the size of your window opening.
Now someone will start poking me in the eye with a finger - what the hell is needed if a measurer arrives when buying windows and professionally measures everything. This is true, but many of us, whose hands grow from one place, and also inquisitive minds, are trying to make repairs with our own hands, and I am trying to convey to you, my assholes, that many types construction works you can do it yourself and not only get invaluable experience, but also save a lot of money!

Read the article to find out how to measure a plastic window!

Window openings are with a quarter and without. And each of them has its own nuances in measurements.

Measurement of a window without a quarter

So, we decided on the type of window opening - for starters, we will measure a plastic window without a quarter according to GOST. To begin with, we measure the width and at the same time subtract 6 cm from the result.

Why this is done - on each side there are 2-3 cm under the mounting foam.

Measuring the opening height

As well as with the width, we subtract a strand of 6 cm from the result obtained. 3 cm is given under the stand profile, directly on which the window will stand and 3 cm on the mounting foam.

IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW!

Friends - I will give you hands-on little advice. Take measurements of the width and height at three points of the opening - left, right, middle. This is done in order to determine minimum size, from which the distance required for the mounting foam will be subtracted.

Quarter window measurement

Friends, according to GOST, when installing and measuring windows with a quarter, the windows should go 30 - 60 mm per quarter, so when calculating the width of the window, you must calculate it so that the window is more than a quarter, but less than the walls.

We measure the height of the window with a quarter. It is done like this. First, measure the distance from the bottom of the window opening to the quarter and add 2 cm to it so that the window goes beyond the quarter. If you order windows with a window sill and a sill, then you should take into account the fact that they have a support profile with a width of 30 mm.

After all calculations, it is necessary to subtract from 30 to 60 mm for polyurethane foam and, in principle, the calculation can be considered complete.

In order to correctly measure the width of a window with a quarter, it is necessary to add 40 - 60 mm to the external size between the quarters so that the window goes beyond the quarter. When measuring, you also need to take into account that you will need a distance for the mounting foam.

IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW!

Friends, you should not recess a quarter window too deep, as this can ruin the aesthetics of the window and also make it difficult to install the mosquito net later.

We examined with you the measurement of windows with a quarter and without it. It must be understood that all these works are carried out in warm weather and imply the already completed dismantling of old windows, but if it is not possible, then window measurement can be carried out even if there is an old window. Everything is simple here - for the initial size you take the outer dimensions of the window frame.

How to measure a plastic window correctly - video

window sill measurement

Everything is elementary here - measure the required length of the window sill and add 10 cm to it so that the window sill sinks into the wall on both sides. The width of the window sill is measured taking into account the width of your wall, sorry for the taftology. The window sill should protrude a little. I will not give any specific advice here, since this parameter can vary and is calculated individually. Let's say I personally have 3 cm in one room, and in the other bedroom there is practically no ledge, since it rests on metal pipe heating.

A few practical tips

Friends - we examined the measurements of windows with a quarter, and without. In principle, there is nothing complicated here and you can do all the work yourself, but if your hands are shaking and your eyes are afraid, then qualified hard workers will come to your aid. By the way, you can only order window measurements, and do the installation work yourself - it's up to you and only you!

If you have read the entire article to the end, then you probably already understand the principle of measurement, but there are a few more nuances that I would like to pay attention to.

Friends, even if you have to insert ten windows - measure each one separately, you should not take average values. This is especially true for private houses, where the difference between adjacent windows can reach up to 20 cm.

Pay attention to all the little things - if you have heating made of polypropylene and sewn into the walls, then this is good, but if, like mine, it is welded from pipes 100, then you need to look so that they do not interfere with the installation of window sills, you also need to look at the jumpers - will there be a possibility of remove or have to adapt to them so that the window opens normally.

I remind you that all dimensions or better to say tolerances and fits can differ significantly from yours, since each of you has your own situation, your own openings - concrete, brick, cinder block, adobe, etc.

Also, before starting measurements, you need to clearly define the type of windows that you will insert. Types window profiles- 3, 4, 5 chamber. Types of double-glazed windows - 1, 2, 3 chamber. All these characteristics affect the thickness of the window, which is important for the correct measurement of windows.

Conclusion

Well, that's all, my friends.

I hope I was able to answer your question - how to measure a plastic window in a house.

Good luck to all!

Hide

The question is how to freeze plastic windows, can be quite sharp, especially if you plan to replace the structure yourself. To do this, you can hire a measurer, but in fact, it is not so difficult to carry out the measurement procedure. This will require a little time, patience and an elementary tool, such as a tape measure.

What affects measurement accuracy?

The more accurately it will be possible to determine the size of the opening for a plastic window , the easier it will be to install the structure, there will be fewer slots and gaps, which in any case will have to be sealed. The absence of gaps will provide warmth in the room, since cold air cannot enter from the street through them.

When measuring, you need to take into account that the new window can be much wider than the old wooden one. Its width depends on the number of double-glazed windows. The more there are, the better design insulates cold air.

Where should you start?

In order to understand how to correctly measure the dimensions for plastic windows, you can not only read the article, but also familiarize yourself with various video materials, which will clearly demonstrate all the stages of work. Measurements should begin by determining the depth of the window opening.

Depth plays an important role, because if the ordered window is wider than the opening, this problem will not be corrected, and a new window will have to be ordered. The installer and the manufacturer are not responsible for incorrect measurements taken by you. It is worth measuring everything accurately and several times, any inaccuracy can lead to serious financial losses.

If the company where you are going to order a window provides the services of a measurer, you should use them. Usually the service is provided free of charge; this will greatly facilitate your task, as an experienced specialist will be sent. In addition, if an employee of the company takes incorrect measurements, and the design does not fit, you will not be responsible for this, and the company will be obliged to replace the window at its own expense.

If you still want to know how to calculate the size of a plastic window along the opening, and do it yourself, you will have to take measurements both from the outside and from the inside of the window opening, only in this way you can determine its depth.

How to measure a window without a quarter?

A quarter is called a protrusion, which may be located in the window opening from the outside. Most often it is located on three sides: top and sides. This ledge serves to ensure that the window frame does not have the opportunity to fall out.

Determining the window width without a quarter. L - size for a box of window blocks; A - dimensions for the clearance of window openings; E - dimensions for mounting clearances; P - height for the stand profile;

Not all houses have quarters: where they are not, it is easy to measure, it is enough to measure the opening from wall to wall or from top to bottom, subtracting about five centimeters from the resulting figure (they will be required for the assembly seam). The gap must be left on each side of at least 2 cm, it is not recommended to make it more than 4 cm.

Please note that the height gap is somewhat smaller and usually leave about 3 cm per side. For example, if the house has a window opening without a quarter, then with a width of 120 cm and a height of 140 cm, you can come to the conclusion that the window does not need 112x134 cm, provided that you leave the maximum allowable mounting gap.

Determining the height of a window without a quarter L, H - the size for a box of window blocks; A1 - dimensions for the clearance of window openings; E1 - dimensions for mounting clearances; P - height for the stand profile; K - size for the lower mounting gap

Quarter window measurement

In this case, the measurements will take a little longer, since you will have to make an adjustment for the size of the quarters, you will have to make measurements both from the outside and from the inside of the window opening. It is most convenient to start from the side walls. In order not to get confused, give the measured sides a letter designation: for example, the distance A from the quarters of the side walls to each other. standard window should go 1.5-2 cm beyond the outer slopes. When you get the desired distance, add 5 cm to it on each side. This way you will get the original width of the opening; Let's call it S.

Measuring window width

After you have measured outside, you need to go to the measurements of the inside of the window opening. You need to find out what the width between the internal slopes is, denote it by the letter B. You will need to find out the width of the window sill, if it is (C), with the correct calculation, the distance should be less than C, but more than B.

The height is measured in a special way, let's call it G. You will need to measure from the top quarter to the bottom of the window opening. About 2 cm must be subtracted from the result obtained (this is a gap for the mounting foam), then you need to add a measurement of a quarter, most often it is 1.5-2.5 cm, otherwise the profile will not fit into place. The base profile must also be taken into account, and this is another minus three centimeters.

Need to know the distance between top wall and window sill, the thickness of the window sill itself. The D value is the control. The future window cannot be larger than this value. If the data does not match, the measurements will have to be taken again.

window height measurement

Some window openings may be skewed. This common problem old houses; in this case, you will have to take into account the difference, it is possible to order a design with the same skew. It is quite difficult to make such measurements on your own. It is recommended to contact specialized company, whose specialist will be able to calculate without errors.

How to determine the width?

Knowing how to measure plastic windows correctly, you will be able to choose a frame that matches the size well, which will allow you to install it without problems; the width of the window opening plays an important role. It is undesirable to change it, since it is additional expenses time, effort and money. Make sure that the future window structure rests on the slopes. The gap in this case should be minimal, usually measured from wall to wall. You need to check if it matches top part window opening bottom and its middle. Distortions are quite possible in this plane, if any, it is recommended to align the window opening, for this it is used cement mortar or other building mixes.
