Perseverance and overcoming are qualities of a strong person. Hamming

All of us were once small children who could not walk or talk. Over time, of course, we have mastered these skills. Many of the achievements that take place in our lives, we owe, first of all, to such a wonderful quality as perseverance. What is persistence? This is the inflexible manifestation of a person who has determined a certain goal for himself. Unfortunately, this property is used by a person less and less over the years. We begin to listen more to the opinions of others, we become subject to third-party approval. Other people's thoughts can sometimes develop even a negative perception of themselves.

Children's spontaneity

IN childhood when we fell, it never stopped us! From showing the same persistence in adulthood we will only win. What is persistence? Remember, much in life depends on personal self-esteem! Positive perception leads to productive development and success in general. Negative self-esteem can have a devastating effect on health and relationships with society.

In addition, negative evaluation blocks every possibility. Our self-esteem controls almost all of our lives, affecting our ability to choose or find friends, acquaintances, and even life paths. It cannot be regarded as positive if a person suffers from a lack of self-esteem.

However, significant is quite possible in a short period. In addition, we already know how important it is for each of us! It is worth showing perseverance, increasing our personal dignity, as our life is immediately improved automatically. decisive step in building positive self-esteem is to become stronger.

Each of us is a creator

Persistence is characterized by such properties as balance, perseverance. However, they should not be confused with humility, inactivity. Balance, perseverance and perseverance are always characterized by enterprise. As well as activity in the effective achievement of the goal, overcoming difficulties that impede the achievement of the goal. A stubborn, persistent person knows why he endures.

There is an opinion that all mankind is created in the image and likeness of God. When people humiliate themselves, they overthrow their Creator. When a person begins to understand personal value, he understands others more. Any person who has grown to great heights shows perseverance, determination even in his thoughts, calculating in advance every step.

Of course, everyone had situations when you did not know what to do. You began to get nervous, tormented by doubts, but still you made some kind of decision. Most likely, having reviewed the past, you realized that decision was a turning point in the resulting situation, and, perhaps, in all life.

Only forward, not a step back!

The ability to make good decisions is one of the most important skills successful person. However, the chance to succeed in life can be taken by a person who not only makes the right decisions, but also implements them correctly. Such people observe the results, making adjustments in time.

They are always ready to accept new information, and if necessary, to the need to change. Perhaps only decisive action, and not marking time in anticipation, attracts the entire power of the universe to help. Act as if defeat is impossible, and it will indeed become unattainable.

Self-control is the way to triumph!

For such a quality as perseverance, another property is characteristic. If to characterize in one phrase, we can say that perseverance is a quality that implies the ability to control oneself! In other words, it is the ability to maintain clarity of thought. Always remain attentive, focusing on the work being done, regardless of the impact of negative circumstances that lead astray from the planned path. Self-control will never let the thought of defeat enter our minds.

At a time when a streak of mistakes and failures, and even more so of sheer luck, comes, thanks to our inner endurance, we are able to control the degree of our emotional agitation. We can quite control our gestures in case of fatigue, pain, displeasure with ourselves. And also to refrain from bickering and insolence in conflict circumstances.

The key to your well-being is determination and perseverance

What is persistence? Such a feature can be considered as a spiritually developed or mature personality. Such people quite consciously, consistently subordinate actions, thoughts, intentions and habits to their greatest and most important goal for them. Such people gradually acquire dominance over themselves, their own destiny. Thanks to this exclusive submission, a person is no longer a slave to internal passions and is no longer a hostage to the situation that has arisen.

If you stay idle, waiting for more suitable occasion, life can bypass! Man must himself create favorable situations. Remember, a determined person wins where others fail! As a rule, it does not happen immediately, but luck appears after a long series of losses. However, many learn from their omissions! No matter how strange it may sound, but the more failures, the greater the success. Every failure is a useful experience that will certainly lead to victory. Luck is born where failure ends.

However, hasty decisions cannot be considered decisive. In most cases, such behavior indicates a person's persistent intention to free himself from stressful condition which is a sign of weakness. And the continuous postponing of the adoption or implementation of a decision indicates an underdevelopment of the will.

How to cultivate willpower?

If you have made a firm decision to develop your will, then you must adhere to certain conditions. First, try to develop the habit of coping with the problems at hand. This will educate and temper your willpower! Consider any obstacle from the position of an ‹‹impregnable fortress››, doing everything to take it. Second, never forget the ultimate goal. Thirdly, any decision must be considered, and then executed. And finally, fourthly, define plans for the near future, where in the end they will always lead to a productive goal.

Discipline above all else!

Each person contains a strong and vibrant personality, although sometimes it is hidden. Give your true essence a chance by releasing it. Learn to listen to your personal voice with as little influence as possible. Only in this way can a person cultivate perseverance in achieving goals.

And yet, what is perseverance? What is the reason that only a few can achieve what they want, while changing the quality of their lives? This is interconnected with understanding the significance of one's own and the correct attitude to discipline! Unfortunately, many make the same fatal omission!

They refuse to fight, arguing that they will not go against their desires. As a result, they become hostages of their desires, vices, inclinations, harmful and killing habits. Remember, when people cannot curb their desires, the latter will certainly capture their mind, will.

« Nothing on earth can replace perseverance. No genius, genius without appreciation and reward is almost a proverb. No talent, nothing is as common as an unsuccessful talent. No education, the world is full of enlightened outcasts. Persistence in achieving the goal this is the strength!" Calvin Coolidge

What is persistence? Persistence is a strong-willed quality of a person, characterized by the ability to achieve goals and objectives, despite emerging internal and external obstacles.

Perseverance is one of the most important components of success in life, it is explained purposefulness and the desire in spite of everything, stubbornly and continuously to continue its path, following the decision made earlier.

It is not for nothing that the advice of many successful people contains rules in which perseverance is attributed almost the main role in achieving success. So Canadian journalist Malcolm Gladwell, long time who worked for the Washington Post and is now a staff writer for the world-famous The New Yorker, in his book Geniuses and Outsiders explains the phenomenon of genius - " Geniuses are not born, but become as a result of perseverance and hard work in your favorite business.". Gladwell knows what he is talking about, because he had to study biographies of many successful people. After studying a lot of facts from the life of geniuses, Malcolm came up with a rule: to achieve great success, you need 10 thousand hours of training - “ 10,000 hours of hard practice made the Beatles - The Beatles helped Bill Gates and Paul Allen found Microsoft».

How is persistence different from stubbornness

Don't confuse persistence with stubbornness. Perseverance is formed by making a decision and implies a goal, while stubbornness is aimless and disorderly (except when the desire to achieve a result in a stubborn person is determined by the motives of self-affirmation). Unlike persistence, which is always associated with your personal desires and aspirations, stubbornness involves mindlessly following a decision you accidentally made, or a decision made for you by someone else.

Persistence promotes movement forward, stubbornness, on the contrary, leads to a dead end of senseless, ridiculous and unproductive behavior. Stubbornness can lead a person to lose their sense of reality, and eventually to paralysis of inaction, perseverance helps to maintain positive dynamics and stay connected with life.

If you show perseverance and diligence in achieving your goals, people willingly help you and follow you, but if they see that you are simply resisting, then they bypass you and move on. Stubbornness annoys others! Of course, no one can forbid you to show your stubbornness, but being stubborn, it is very difficult to find mutual understanding with the outside world and agreement with yourself.

It is important to know and remember that sometimes a long inert movement turns perseverance into stubbornness. It doesn't happen that often, but it does happen sometimes. Therefore, ask yourself more often (necessarily in a calm emotional state) about what you want and what drives you - dreams and desires or donkey obstinacy.

What perseverance gives and when it comes to the rescue

Perseverance helps to follow the chosen path and solve the tasks facing a person, even in moments of complete lack of motivation. The path can be thorny, goals and objectives are incredibly great, and when the strength is running out and the fuse is gone, persistence and perseverance help out. It helps to keep taking action and keep the accumulated results.

Perseverance is especially valued in overcoming difficult life situations . People react differently to problems: someone loses heart, someone closes in on himself, some begin to complain about fate, others look for someone to blame ... And only perseverance and determination do not allow you to fall apart and give up. It is not surprising that perseverance is especially appreciated by northern peoples, because it helps them survive in harsh conditions.

Persistence and perseverance help develop the right attitude to failure, gain self-confidence and allow you not to be afraid to make mistakes. If you, despite the mistakes and failures, do not give up, are ready to stumble and fall, then you will definitely succeed.

Perseverance gives interest in life, frees from lethargy, indecision and apostasy.

Persistence is transformed into experience, gives practice, makes people professionals in any field. It does not let you turn off the intended path. It is only important that this path is correct.

Building persistence

Whatever qualities of will you have this moment no matter how you have, you can always become a little more persistent person, just follow the rules below for developing perseverance .

In order to move forward without interruption, first of all, it is necessary to set a goal. It should be real and as specific as possible. The next step is to develop a plan for its implementation. It is necessary to build the work in such a way that it is carried out various methods and did not cause fatigue from exhausting and monotonous work. One of the things that allows you to develop perseverance is the ability to break the main goals into many small ones, this allows you not to lose your perseverance along the way. About, how to set goals you can find out by reading one of the recently published articles.

In the formation of perseverance, an important fact is the choice of a reference point, a role model. Think about who for you is the personification of perseverance? A famous athlete who has recovered from a dangerous injury, or an actor who started with minor roles and step by step, persistently honed his skills, becoming popular and in demand (for example, Al Pacino). Or perhaps a politician like Mitt Romney, no less persistently moving towards his goal. Keep such "patterns" in your thoughts, checking your actions against them.

An independent mind and immunity to critical moods will help to temper character and develop perseverance. On the path of a person going to his goal, someone (acquaintances, friends, relatives) always appears who doubts the correctness of his decisions or wants to confuse him. You must be ready for criticism, ridicule and censure. Build immunity to negative impact And destructive, unfounded criticism.

In order to form perseverance (persistent character), you need to make it your habit. After all, consciousness constantly absorbs some part of everyday experience.

Good for developing perseverance various types sports. After all, it is in sports that be the first, be the best, athletes train sparing no time and effort.

For the formation of perseverance, it is possible to recommend the use of motivation, however, the movement in the same direction, as a rule, becomes an excellent motivating factor in itself. But still, it is not superfluous to somehow encourage yourself during a planned movement, this should increase the traction force. Also, the reason for your aspirations should loom before your eyes (Why do I want to achieve this?).

In one of his last speeches, Winston Churchill explained in one phrase how to be persistent - " All you have to do to be persistent is never give up". I wish you never give up!

What does it take to consistently achieve your goals? Why do some people make their dreams come true, while others, who have the same starting conditions, do not succeed, and they give up at the first failure? The thing is personal qualities ah, which determine whether a person will be a leader and full master of his own destiny or a slave performer, disappointed in life and giving in at every trifling problem.

Studying biographies allows you to highlight important qualities for achieving goals - perseverance and perseverance. These features of the human psyche contribute to overcoming difficulties on the chosen path. Indeed, in any business, whether it is a global dream of a lifetime or another trip to the store for the right product without obstacles and unforeseen circumstances. The way a person reacts to them and what he does in the future determines whether he has perseverance and perseverance in achieving goals.

Are perseverance and perseverance the same thing?

Perseverance and perseverance - what is it? These qualities are understood as strong-willed character traits, thanks to which a person achieves his goals, overcoming external and internal obstacles. These traits imply purposefulness and readiness to follow the chosen path no matter what.

However, there are differences between perseverance and perseverance:

perseverance is the ability to withstand difficult situations, resist failures and achieve the desired result in the present moment. When the writer a large number of time stubbornly rewrites the part of the story that does not suit him until he writes the best option. When an athlete runs in competition, following the second or third number, and in last moment shows unprecedented perseverance in the desire to win and thanks to this comes to the finish line first. It is important to bear in mind that a persistent person, with repeated failures, is looking for new ways to solve problems, developing mental flexibility and resourcefulness.

persistence focused on long-term achievement. It implies the ability to follow the chosen path for a certain period of time, maybe even many years, and to remain determined and enthusiastic in different situations. In perseverance, volitional qualities are manifested not periodically, but continuously and methodically. People can be stubborn, determined, but not persistent. Therefore, such traits appear only to achieve operational life tasks, and with more distant and global goals hands go down. So, some scientists, before world fame came to them, countless times set up their experiments, it used to be over many years. This is what perseverance is: the ability to maintain faith in what you love and enthusiasm, not succumb to failure indefinitely.

A developed, harmonious and successful personality must have both perseverance and perseverance. Without a combination of these two qualities, it will not be possible to fully realize life path and reach the stars. To achieve distant total goals, it will be necessary to overcome many emerging obstacles with the help of perseverance, and due to this, moving further along the intended path, a person shows perseverance.

The difference between perseverance and perseverance from stubbornness

A clear understanding of what perseverance and perseverance are, and what is the difference between them, allows us not to confuse them with stubbornness - by no means the best trait for a successful person. Persistence and perseverance come after setting goals, and stubbornness is a sudden, unreasonable and blind desire to achieve something. It is often based on someone else's opinion, the desire to do everything in their own way, contrary to someone else. Unlike persistence, which moves a person forward, stubbornness leads to dead ends due to ridiculous, stupid and useless behavior. If perseverance stimulates positive changes in a person's life, develops the flexibility of the mind in finding new ways to achieve goals, then stubbornness causes the loss of an objective assessment of reality, inaction and the repetition of the same mistakes.

When a person shows perseverance and perseverance in achieving the set goals, this causes respect and admiration of others, people are attracted to him, they are happy to help and support him. Everything happens exactly the opposite, when perseverance is replaced by stubbornness. This annoys people and discourages the desire to contact such a person, much less follow him. Stubbornness prevents you from finding mutual understanding with others and living in harmony with your own personality. It happens that long-term passive actions change persistence into stubbornness, so you need to periodically ask yourself, being in a relaxed emotional state, about what actually drives a person - desired goals or stubbornness.

How to develop perseverance and perseverance

Each person wants to be significant, to realize their potential, to choose the path to follow and achieve each goal. However, such achievements are unlikely for a weak character who bends from a slight breeze. Therefore, the sooner a person studies the issue of how to develop perseverance and perseverance, the faster and easier he will improve these qualities.

To begin with, you have to decide why a person needs these character traits, analyze his life, potential and desired results. Find out what you don’t like, what you would like to change and what you have abilities for, but lack personal qualities. Clearly imagine how life will change with perseverance, perseverance, responsibility and discipline. If people are satisfied with everything in life, they are not inspired by changes and the possibility of a better fate, they are unlikely to want to strain and change themselves.

It is necessary, from which goosebumps run down the skin and the heartbeat quickens, provided that the desires do not go beyond reality. When the goal is set, you can think about ways to achieve it. It will be correct to break a big goal into small ones, that is, divide a long path into small segments, and think over how to go through each of them. It is important to keep in mind that it is unlikely that everything will be perfect. Failures, obstacles and difficulties cannot be avoided, but let them only temper character and increase the desire to follow dreams.

Strong motivation. Thanks to it, people for a long time retain the desire and enthusiasm to achieve their goals and overcome seemingly impossible obstacles. When a person really wants something, he will sweep away obstacles in his path and correct interfering character traits, such as laziness, fear,. The desire to achieve the goal should exceed the fear of failure, then a person’s inner strength is revealed.
Understanding that you can not do without difficulties along the way. It is important to correctly assess the obstacles that are sure to meet on the way, otherwise you can be “blown away” after the first failure. When a person imagines what awaits him, he calculates in advance and saves his strength in order to save them for the whole journey.
Willingness to spend a lot of time. It is impossible for a person to change quickly, because if perseverance and perseverance are not instilled from childhood, then in adulthood, titanic efforts will have to be made to develop them. But the result is worth it! Therefore, it is necessary to prepare to spend a lot of time before the sprouts of perseverance and perseverance sprout through years of laziness.
Determination to overcome failure. Not a single person in the world has achieved great results without failure, so it is important to be ready for them and develop perseverance without giving up on the next failure. This can be avoided by the correct attitude towards failures, which is that each defeat is not the end of the world, but a new opportunity to become even stronger and more persistent, as well as to think about finding new ways to solve problems. It is important not to avoid mistakes, but not to repeat them.
Understanding the importance of perseverance and perseverance. To do this, it is recommended to study the biographies of famous successful personalities who command respect and admiration. Focus on how much they had to make efforts and suffer defeats. But after each failure, such people pulled themselves together and continued to follow the dream with double enthusiasm. But without perseverance, perseverance and endurance, they would have stopped at the first obstacle.

Communication with people who support. People feed on each other's energy, so it is important that a person is surrounded by like-minded people, because together it is much easier to achieve goals. You can find yourself permanent partners on the way to achieving your dreams, or periodically seek help and moral support in difficult moments. This will keep you from giving up.
Control your own stress. It is important not to overdo it in striving to achieve a result in order to prevent mental energy from draining. Otherwise tense emotional condition will prevent you from using your full potential.
Be active, play sports. Physical exercise, especially of a competitive plan, develop as well as possible strengths character, they teach you to train hard and persistently and go to victory, no matter what.
Read, essays and parables about perseverance and perseverance. Such literature shapes the thinking of winners, and when a person thinks like a leader, he also acts. At the same time, the qualities of his character change to those that are inherent in successful and strong people.

Perseverance and perseverance are the engines on the road to success

Surely there are people who underestimate the importance of the influence of these personal qualities on the formation of a person's destiny. However, even Scientific research in the field of psychology, perseverance and perseverance are distinguished as the most important predictor of achievements in people's lives. Human possibilities are endless, but often people themselves become their main obstacle on the way to a dream. More precisely, the lack of the necessary qualities in the character and the dominance of negative ones. The human brain is designed in such a way that it strives to perform as few difficult actions as possible, and it is even better not to do anything, not to make efforts, not to change and not to strain. Based on this, it is important to understand that achievements begin with overcoming oneself, and without perseverance, perseverance and determination, this cannot be done.

Only the person himself is responsible for his own life and everyone receives according to the efforts made. Therefore, it is worth giving up the habit of blaming everything. external environment, look deeper into yourself and understand what is missing to turn everyday life into a fairy tale. And what is lacking is just perseverance and perseverance in achieving the set goals.

The development of such qualities allows:

Irresponsibility, ;
exercise regularly, which makes a person healthier and more attractive;
become well-read and erudite, think positively, charging the people around you with your energy;
choose your favorite business, perhaps not immediately, but it will definitely happen with sufficient perseverance and perseverance in the search;
learn and achieve them;
find admirers and people willing to follow such a person and learn from him;
change the script of your life: from a passive member of the crowd to turn into a strong leader, able to accept complex decisions and answer for them.

It is important to know that the development of perseverance and perseverance starts small, gradually increasing the pace and improving so that the optimal amount of energy and strength is expended. When the necessary qualities of character develop, you can safely recall grandiose dreams and begin to realize them, because perseverance and perseverance can do anything!

persistence (English insistence)- the volitional quality of the personality, which consists in the ability to achieve the set goal, while overcoming external and internal obstacles. Perseverance should not be confused with stubbornness on the basis of external resemblance. Both are characterized by a stubborn desire to achieve what they want, however, unlike perseverance with stubbornness, the only motive for behavior is self-affirmation, the desire to insist on one's own.

Dictionary of practical psychologist. S.Yu. Golovin

persistence- personal volitional quality, characterized by the ability to overcome external and internal obstacles, - aimed at steady, despite difficulties and obstacles, achieving the goal. It develops in a child on the basis of upbringing, starting from the age of preschool, the ability to complete the fulfillment of feasible tasks, the willingness to make efforts to subordinate one's behavior to the future result, sometimes - contrary to current impulses. Meaningful goals and an awareness of duty and responsibility for the assigned work play an important role in the education of perseverance. For the cultivation of perseverance, short-term actions are not suitable, but long-term actions are required.

Great Encyclopedia of Psychiatry. Zhmurov V.A.

persistence A behavioral tendency to persist or persist indefinitely. There are two important differences between persistence and perseveration or compulsiveness.

  • First, the concept of persistence lacks the negative connotations usually associated with these terms. As a rule, perseverance involves an admirable struggle of the individual with some external or internal opposition to his goals, life and psychological difficulties that arise.
  • Secondly, the term "perseverance" mostly refers to behavior and is a characteristic of volitional qualities at the stage of implementation of the action plans adopted by the person.

The importance of persistence in characterizing human behavior has long been recognized. Even Mac Dougall considered perseverance to be one of the objective qualities of purposeful behavior. Many prominent foreign psychologists turned to the study of this phenomenon (K. Levin, J. Atkinson and G. Litvin, R. Krutcher, D. Ryans, A. Kremer, N. Fizer, etc.). However, in understanding the essence of this volitional quality, there are a number of controversial points.

In domestic psychology, as well as in foreign psychology, perseverance is often replaced by another volitional quality - perseverance, and for most psychologists, perseverance and perseverance are one and the same. Therefore, many definitions do not indicate what goal - distant or momentary - in question. An example of this is the definition of perseverance in the "Psychological Dictionary": perseverance is characterized as a volitional quality aimed at steadily, despite difficulties and obstacles, to achieve the goal.

The study of this volitional manifestation, designated English word persistence, became for foreign psychologists an independent direction in the study of motivation, while the concept of "will" in American psychology, for example, did not find a place at all. The term "persistence" has a fairly wide semantic field and, in addition to persistence, includes perseverance, patience, fortitude, consistency, etc. This has led to the fact that under common name began to be studied, if not quite different, then at least not quite identical, from my point of view, volitional manifestations: perseverance, perseverance, patience.

Indeed, in some cases, the phenomenon of persistence was studied with the help of complex intellectual and sometimes unsolvable tasks, in other cases - with the help of physical endurance tests. Therefore, it is obviously no coincidence that the correlations between the results of one subject on various tests of persistence turned out to be low, practically insignificant.

In the study of persistence, Western psychologists distinguish three areas. In one of them, persistence is seen as a character trait that consistently determines human behavior (hence the name of the studies - “trait studies”). Situational factors are ignored in this approach, as they are considered to be overlapped by personality traits. In another case, persistence is studied as resistance to extinction: the dependence of the manifestation of persistence on the expectation of success or failure is studied. At the same time, it was found that if a person believes that the result depends on himself, and not on a "happy accident", then he shows much greater perseverance. Describing the task as difficult or easy also matters. In the first case, persistence is greater than in the second (D. Starners and O. Zinsser). Finally, another direction studies persistence in the context of the problem of motivation: the dependence of persistence on achievement motivation is analyzed. As shown by J. Atkinson and G. Litvin, the achievement motive correlates positively with the persistence shown in solving the problem, and the motive for avoiding failure is negatively correlated. Thus, it was revealed that the so-called "persistence" (or rather, perseverance) manifests itself both situationally and as a personality trait.

Perseverance according to V.K. Kalin is an emotional-volitional quality in which the emotional and volitional components are different stages activities can be presented in different ways. With the manifestation of perseverance, there is a pronounced concentration of human efforts on the object, consciousness is turned to the objective plan of activity, which has a distinct vital significance. In human behavior, emotional attachment to the goal of activity is manifested. Resource mobilization occurs with extensive use of the mechanism of emotions. I note that all this can be attributed not only to perseverance, but also to such strong-willed qualities as perseverance and patience.

In the Psychological Dictionary, perseverance is defined as a personality trait that consists in the ability to achieve a goal, while overcoming external and internal obstacles. Persistence is characterized by a persistent desire to achieve the desired. But even in this definition it is not indicated what kind of goal is being discussed - about the near or distant in time. And this, when highlighting perseverance as an independent volitional quality, is of fundamental importance.

S. L. Rubinshtein wrote: “Some people immediately put a lot of pressure into their actions, but soon “run out of steam”; they are capable of only a short rush and give up very quickly. The value of such an energy, which is able to take on obstacles only from a raid and subsides as soon as it encounters opposition that requires prolonged efforts, is not great. It becomes a truly valuable quality only when combined with perseverance. Persistence is manifested in the persistence of energy over a long period [emphasis mine. - E.I.], despite the difficulties and obstacles. And then S. L. Rubinshtein continued: “Instability is usually shown by people who are not able to burn with the work they are doing, or who are easily flammable, but quickly cool down. When the impulse that a person brings to the struggle to achieve his goal is heated by passion and illuminated by feeling, it results in enthusiasm.

In the textbook "Psychology" perseverance (together with perseverance) is defined as a manifestation of will, characterized by long-term preservation (often increasing) of energy and activity in the struggle to achieve a goal, in overcoming many (including unexpectedly arising) obstacles.

V.V. Bogoslovsky defined perseverance as a volitional property of a person, which manifests itself in the ability long time direct and control behavior in accordance with the intended goal.

There are few unattainable things in the world; if we had more perseverance, we could

to find a way to almost any goal.

La Rochefoucauld

V. V. Medvedev notes that a persistent person is capable of a long and unrelenting tension of energy, a steady movement towards the intended goal. In the textbook "Psychology" [V. I. Zhukovskaya, 1970] the following description of perseverance is given: “Persistence is manifested in a person’s ability to overcome difficulties and obstacles for a long time, to steadily move towards the goal ... Persistent people show their will not episodically, but constantly and methodically. In this they differ from people who are energetic but not persistent, who can overcome significant difficulties if they can be overcome in one swoop, but who deviate from the intended goal if a long overcoming of obstacles is required. 335]. Finally, P.I. Ivanov also characterizes perseverance in terms of overcoming obstacles and difficulties for a long time.

Persistence is a necessary character trait modern man. It is expressed in the ability of the individual to complete the work begun and achieve the goal in the process of a rather intense and lengthy activity. Thus, perseverance is associated with the ability to fulfill one's aspirations, that is, with one of the most important types internal motives.

Unpersistent. either they do not set difficult or distant goals at all, or they set, but are not guided by them in their behavior.

Stepanov VG Psychology of difficult schoolchildren. M., 1997. S. I define perseverance as a systematic manifestation of willpower to implement a long-term motivational setting, as a person's desire to achieve a goal that is distant in time, despite the obstacles and difficulties that arise.

The manifestation of perseverance largely depends on: 1) the degree of a person's confidence in the achievability of the goal; 2) achievement motivation (striving for success); 3) the level of claims; 4) the presence of strong-willed attitudes to overcome difficulties. The role of the latter in the success of the exercise was noted by A. I. Samoshin. Persistence is realized through the repeated manifestation of perseverance and patience, therefore, the presence of these strong-willed qualities in a person determines to a large extent his perseverance.

Of course, on the way to achieving a distant goal in time, a person can also suffer individual failures. In this regard, it is impossible not to touch on the issue of whether people have a frustration threshold. It characterizes the speed of the emergence of a frustration state of a person in case of repeatedly experienced failure. Besides that different people have different frustration thresholds (in one state of frustration occurs after two or three failures, in another - with more of them), they react to frustration differently. With an impulsive form of response, a person gives up, considering himself unable to overcome the difficulties that have arisen. With an extrapunitive response to failures, a person considers them to be the causes external factors, chance, and vice versa, seeks to prove that it can cope with the difficulties that have arisen, that is, it enhances the manifestation of its perseverance.
