How does a root remover work? country tool

Digging, leveling, weeding the beds is another "pleasure". It’s good that now you can buy modern convenient devices instead of shovels and rakes, and at the same time amuse your shopaholism on the eve of the summer season.

What to dig?

If the farm already has a motor cultivator, then this is great. But if you can't get it, no problem. Two years ago, I bought the advertised “Plowman Miracle Shovel” and have never regretted it. My “Miracle Shovel” is 35 cm wide and weighs about 5 kg. It also happens to be 43 cm wide, but it seemed to me a bit heavy. Advantages: pulls out weeds completely, it remains only to collect them, for example, with a fan rake; the soil after processing becomes like fluff, since the shovel also loosens at the same time; and most importantly, there is no load on the back. Disadvantages: somewhat bulky when carrying and storing; will not dig up virgin soil, only previously cultivated soil.

Fig.1 It is better to buy a handle for the “Miracle-shovel“ Plowman ”and it is possible without such a handle, as in the picture

For uncultivated soils in 2006, a Vyatka monk developed the Vyatka Plowman shovel. It is good not only for digging virgin land, but also for planting potatoes - due to the fact that the land is dumped to the side, falling asleep without extra effort thrown into the hole planting potatoes. The weight is the same as that of the "Miracle Shovel" - about 5 kg, the height is adjustable. I have not yet purchased the Vyatka Plowman, but I don’t need it, I have almost no uncultivated soil.

Fig. 2 On the Internet, you can find videos about both the Miracle Shovel and the Vyatka Plowman. They say that their productivity is several times higher than the efficiency of a conventional bayonet shovel.

I also have a manual rotary cultivator, bought in a fit of dacha fanaticism. Then only modern manual cultivators began to appear, I really wanted something new. The tool turned out to be very inconvenient: weeds are wound on the wheels, which then have to be cleaned for a long and tedious time; bulky in storage; the nut at the cutter constantly fell off, I had to additionally invent how to fix it. Such a cultivator will fit only for quick weeding of a bed, carefully prepared a week or two ago, but for some reason not immediately sown and therefore slightly overgrown with young weeds. In general, "everything is complicated ..." (c).

Fig.3 The staple is not self-sharpening, it has to be sharpened once a month

What to weed?

I don’t know exactly when Fokin invented his famous flat cutter, but in 2007 my mother already had one, and immediately with the “correct” handle - not round, but rectangular section. I got my own dacha in 2008, and since then not a single weeding or planting has been complete without this tool. And fashionable now organic farming generally recognizes only surface tillage - no more than 5 cm deep.

Fig. 4 Fokin flat cutter is large and small

The Swift cultivator, also known as the Swinging Weeder, also allows you to minimize the time spent on weeding and loosening. It works like a potato peeler. True, it also requires sharpening, and competent. The bracket attached to the end is pointed on both sides, so you can work with the tool both in the direction of yourself and away from you. With such a weeder, I weed, and at the same time I loosen a bed with strawberries measuring 8m x 1.3m in 10-15 minutes. The advantage compared to Fokin's flat cutter: you won't miss such a bracket and you won't cut a randomly cultivated crop. Disadvantage: some weeds that propagate by root shoots (for example, colza) grow strongly because they are cut underground, and not stretched, as after the Plowman Miracle Shovel.

Fig. 5 "Swift" is usually sold without a handle

small tool

First of all, I want to note the most necessary, as it seems to me, tools: a landing cone and a root remover. It is better to buy a cone from good durable metal, preferably from stainless steel. An aluminum cone wears out in two seasons. Such a cone is designed primarily for planting bulbs, but I planted both vegetables and flower seedlings: peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, petunias, lobelia.

Fig. 6 When you press on the sides of the handles, the cone moves apart, and the earth spills out

It is better to choose a root remover with a well-pointed fork at the end. It is a pleasure to work with such a tool. A bucket of malicious weeds, for example, dandelions, is easily recruited in half an hour even by a child.

Fig.7 Root remover

It is better to choose a hand tool with rubberized handles - a pruner, a rake, and a scoop. Special attention it is necessary to pay attention to the place where the handle and the main working part are connected, it must be a single cast part. I used to try to save everything by buying something cheaper, but the scoops made of thin and malleable metal quickly bent and turned in the handle. But it’s worth buying a more expensive scoop once, made of good stainless steel, in order to understand what pleasure and comfort will be when working with a high-quality hand tool.

Fig. 8 Landing scoop. Please note that the thin part of the handle and the scoop itself are a single molded part.

I want to praise one more device, without which it would be difficult for me to spray against pests ( Colorado beetle, aphids, whiteflies), as well as foliar feeding or disease prevention - this is such a very convenient sprayer:

Fig.9 The volume is only 1 liter, but it is not heavy to carry

For those who do not yet have fan rakes, I strongly advise you to buy them. And, preferably, also of high quality right away, since cheap aluminum ones break after a season or two. They can not only remove leaves from the lawn, but also level the beds after laying them out in grooves planting material(I make grooves only with a Fokin flat cutter) or after digging (digging with the “Plowman” Miracle Shovel), raking weeds after weeding (weeding with the “Swift”), pushing back the strawberry mustache. They are very light, unlike the usual old-style rakes.

Fig. 10 The telescopic handle is not required at all. It is better to strengthen the rubber handle immediately, it quickly flies off.

And now about the devices that turned out to be unnecessary. These are quite expensive, but terribly non-ergonomic grass clippers with Teflon blades.

Fig. 11 Ordinary scissors can easily replace these

Just like a rotary cultivator, I spontaneously bought a shovel with a telescopic handle. I didn’t understand how to use it without bending over, and it bent and broke after an hour of work, although it was not cheap.

I hope that my little experience will help you navigate among the tools and choose those that will make summer work easier.

Thanks for the feedback!

It is very convenient to pick out dandelions with a root remover. Well, and other weeds with a long, thick root, which, if you just pull, will break and give new growth. My son loves working with them, and I'm glad - I have to work less))

Mama Lanya
exactly! I forgot about the Tornado cultivator. It seems to me that it will do well on the virgin soil.

Maria.sherstneva
also good))

Sweetheart people
I used to spray with a manual sprayer with a piston and rubber hose, which falls into the container, well, terribly inconvenient. But I bought this sprayer, I have never regretted it. And some neighbors in the country also bought it looking at me, they are also satisfied)

Receipt good harvest or proper form backyard lawn preceded by a number of works on the processing of the topsoil. Digging, harrowing, loosening, breaking up clods of earth, removing weeds and their roots, digging up root crops - all this is necessary, but physically hard work.

Requiring plus everything significant time costs.

Designed to make work easier and increase productivity different kinds manual cultivators for tillage in the country - gasoline, electric, manual, light and heavy.

The advantages of their use are enormous - mobility, the ability to process hard-to-reach land for heavy equipment, and an increase in the speed of work several times. The quality of land cultivation increases many times over in comparison with the use of hand tools- shovels or saps.

What should be?

For hand cultivators for summer cottages, the price may vary from 10 to 40 thousand rubles(gasoline cultivators) and reach up to 150 thousand rubles for walk-behind tractors.

Manual cultivator for giving electric- lighter and easier to maintain its gasoline counterpart. The main purpose is to loosen the earth. Advantages:

  • light weight;
  • ease of management;
  • low noise level;
  • lack of exhaust gases;

It is clearly seen in the photo:

When choosing, do not chase powerful models - anyway, a full-fledged "field worker" will not come out of it. Pay attention to light, inexpensive models, such as Loplosh, Mantis, which a woman or an elderly person can easily handle.

The disadvantages include attachment to the source of electricity. Poorly suited for processing areas with uncut grass. Due to the relatively low power, it is only able to loosen soft, sandy soil or cultivated black soil.

A garden hand rotary cultivator (or star cultivator) is used to loosen the soil and clods after plowing, mix the soil with fertilizer and remove weeds. Principle of operation: “shoulders” are attached to the working shaft at a right angle, at the end of which there is a cutting edge.

Mining trucks in the family trucks stand alone. Here about the first among the giants Belaz 75710.

The MAZ 5551 truck has been produced by the Minsk Automobile Plant for more than three decades, since 1985. MAZ 5551 is maneuverability, practicality and reliability.

There are penalties for violators, one of which is evacuation. vehicle. about what to do if your car was taken by a tow truck.

There are several such elements along the entire circumference, and in the lateral projection they resemble an asterisk. Hence the name. With petrol or electric drive, the sprockets rotate rapidly (regardless of the speed of movement) loosening the soil.

Evezdochny

Manual cultivator for giving stellar without mechanical drive, has a pair of small support wheels. Also included is a knife, which (if turned to the ground) cuts the grass and roots of weeds when moving.

Immediately after purchase, it is better to replace the handle with a longer one - it will be much easier to work.

Making a cultivator with your own hands

The simplest manual cultivator for giving with your own hands can be make in just a few hours of those who, it would seem, have served their time and no one the right details. For work you will need:

  • Pieces of tubes or a metal corner.
  • The front wheel (without rubber) is from a moped, and preferably from a motorcycle.
  • A strip of steel 50 cm long and 2 mm thick. A worn-out knife from an electric planer is ideal.
  • Cargo - you can use a metal or cast iron blank, part of a reinforced concrete column or transformer iron.

It is easier to assemble the frame using electric welding - this way it will be tougher and more reliable. Grind a strip of steel along the long side at an angle of 40-50 degrees. We fix the wheel and install the load - the cultivator is ready.

Bicycle based

Such a structure can be assembled based on a bicycle. In this case, the load is not required, but you will have to apply a little more effort during the passage. To make the knife easier to go into the ground, you need to weld it at a slight angle.

Homemade hedgehog cultivator

A p-shaped frame is bent from metal 3-4 mm thick. 4 bushings 40 mm long are being prepared. And the most time-consuming part - for each sleeve, around the circumference, 5-7 pieces of pointed reinforcement about 10 cm long are welded. The handle - the longer, the easier it will be to work.

Such a mechanism is perfect for breaking up clods of earth, after the passage of a mini-tractor or motor plow. A knife is fixed on top of the frame. The depth of its entry into the ground can be adjusted by a set of holes. Turning the cultivator over with the knife to the ground, we get another great tool for weed control.

The only problem is in the presence of climbing weeds (for example, bindweed), their stems are wound on the "hedgehogs", and they have to be removed periodically. In any case, it turns out much faster than glanders.

On video homemade cultivator"Hedgehog".

When choosing a cultivator, in addition to the specifics of the site itself, do not forget to consider who will work with it most of the time. If it's a woman or teenager, the best choice will electric model. For young man, it will be useful to warm up with a manual cultivator without a drive, such as, for example, a cultivator swift.

Owners of large plots of land should think about purchasing a motor cultivator or even a motor block.

Sometimes vegetables and fruits are really more profitable to buy in the store. But as a product grown with my own hands, always more confidence. In addition, work on the ground increases vitality if you do it wisely. But hard physical labor is not always useful, especially for those who are used to working only in the office. In order for spring chores to be pleasant and not too burdensome, it is necessary to acquire the means of small-scale mechanization. Modern technology you can, of course, buy it, but it turned out that making, for example, a cultivator with your own hands is quite simple. Check it out.

Tornado - this is the name of a manual cultivator, which can and should be done with your own hands. With such a device resembling a twisted pitchfork, you can forget about the endless battles with weeds. The teeth of the tool pierce the ground at an angle, after which the Tornado must be turned and lifted. To do this, you do not have to make excessive efforts, because instead of a conventional handle, the Tornado has a lever.

The Tornado cultivator is attractive because it is quite easy to use and working with it does not require any significant effort.

This wonderful root remover is good for everyone, but acquaintance with its store price can completely discourage the desire to become its owner. However, there is nothing complicated in this device. The Tornado cultivator can be made independently and even in several different ways.

Spring Steel Tornado

We will need a steel tape 50 cm long, 1-1.5 mm thick and 2 cm wide. For our purpose, it is best to use spring steel. We bend the tape in the form of a loop and attach it to the wooden handle of the tool. The length of the handle is determined depending on the height of the owner: it should be convenient to work with the tool. You can also make a lever, the same as that of a store root remover. The working steel loop should be 20 cm in diameter, which is slightly less than the row spacing. The edges of the loop are sharpened with a file on both sides.

Weeds - pitchforks to the side

If the Tornado looks like a pitchfork, then why not make a manual cultivator with your own hands from this tool familiar to all gardeners? We will buy an ordinary pitchfork in a hardware store and give the teeth of this tool the desired bend with a hammer. In general, the tool should resemble a kind of corkscrew. It is important to take your time and proceed with caution.

For the lever you need a half-meter segment plastic pipe. We buy in the store and a plastic handle-nozzle for the handle, which is used for pitchforks or shovels. We cut the tube lengthwise, put it on the handle and fix it with electrical tape so that it does not slip. Now the resulting lever protrudes about 25 cm from the handle on both sides.

It is logical to make the forked part of the Tornado precisely from the pitchfork - a tool that is well known to all gardeners and that everyone has

An important part for the Tornado cultivator is its upper lever part: thanks to the lever, you can do hard work with minimal effort

Option #2: bike-based flat cutter

A cultivator-flat cutter will help to cope with weeds and will greatly facilitate the life of any gardener. Structurally, it is more complicated than the Tornado, but not by much.

To create a flat cutter you need:

  • old bicycle, which is no longer used by anyone for its intended purpose;
  • a head from a cultivator that has fallen into disrepair or a working surface of a two-handed saw;
  • drill, grinder, wrenches, drills, bolts and so on.

The bike comes with a frame and one wheel. A cultivator head is attached to the frame. In the same capacity, the cutting part of a two-handed saw, a small plow or steel sharp bars made independently can be used. The handles for controlling the mechanism are made of aluminum or steel pipes. A piece of pipe about 2.5 cm in diameter will come in handy as a transverse jumper.

A flat cutter can be made on the basis of an old bicycle, using the working surface of a two-handed saw, ironically called "Friendship" as a cutting part.

There is no particular complexity in the design of this handy tool; it can be made with the right material at hand.

The structure must be rigid, so the nodes are bolted together. A medium size wheel should be secured to the frame with locknuts. It turned out a homemade cultivator, which is very functional and easy to use.

Option #3: disc rotary cultivator

Making a rotary cultivator with your own hands is not at all easy. It requires special skills and good physical preparation. If you have all the listed qualities, you can try to build this tool, which will be much more effective than all the previous ones. With its help, you can not only cultivate, but also harrow the earth, deftly breaking large clods.

As part of a disk rotary cultivator: 1 - disk, 2 - axis. 3 - sleeve, 4 - large bracket, 5 - small bracket, 6 - stem, 7 - pipe, 8 - handle

The working bodies of this cultivator are convex discs, which must be welded to the bushings put on the axle. The axial ends are fixed with cotter pins, which are fixed in a large bracket. After that, a hole is cut in the upper part of this bracket. Handles with a crossbar are fixed in it. A rod 25 cm long and 24 mm in diameter will have to be welded to a small bracket. A 16 mm diameter rod is screwed into it. Part of the rod protrudes above the crossbar.

It is not so easy to give the desired spherical shape to a disk 4 mm thick. To do this, you need to be able to deftly handle the hammer. A strong and precise blow to the center of the disk will transform it into a bowl. It is for this work that the main physical effort will be needed. Special wing nuts, located on the crossbar, regulate the angle of inclination of the spherical discs relative to the direction of movement of the cultivator itself.

Option # 4: industrial meat grinder to help us

All of the above inventory is quite simple. But in the conditions of your own workshop, you can also make a home-made electric cultivator. This once again proves that the possibilities of home craftsmen are almost limitless. To implement this idea, you need an old industrial meat grinder. On its basis, an effective electric gardener's assistant will be built.

An electric cultivator can be made on the basis of a meat grinder for industrial purposes: you get a fairly powerful unit that will last for several years

Everything is not as difficult as it seems, if there is welding machine and a master who knows how to use it for its intended purpose. Two corners should be attached to the gearbox housing. Pipes with a bend are welded to the corners, which will be used as handles. Between the resulting handles, another piece of pipe is welded - a spacer that gives the structure the desired strength.

The axles for the cultivator wheels will also have to be welded to the corners. The wheels are selected in medium size so that they are easy to use and do not fall into the soil.

The main structural element is the shaft. It will have to be machined from ordinary scrap. The connection is carried out as in the original: in the slot. The meat grinder nozzle is chipped off with a sledgehammer, after which a thick-walled cast iron bushing remains. A blank made from scrap is placed in it, to which lugs in the form of a screw are welded. They are cut from car springs. Other material options for the lugs were used, but they were not viable.

Grousers are located at an angle of 120 degrees. They need to be screwed out in the direction of rotation, then it will be easier for them to enter the ground, and the cultivator itself will be easier to control. The engine of the device is connected according to the "triangle" scheme, start - capacitor. The engine switch is mounted on the handle of the cultivator for ease of operation. The device will last a long time if, before starting work, lubricate the mating of a home-made shaft in a cast-iron bushing with any used oil.

Take a good look at what the lugs should be and how they should be located: the efficiency of the device and its durability depend on this

The quality of tillage depends on the speed of movement of such a cultivator. Fast plowing will be rough, while slow plowing can literally turn the earth into dust.

Option # 5: a child of a bicycle and a washing machine

Do not rush to throw away the old bike and the used one. washing machine. These things can still come in handy if you want to make a cultivator with your own hands, spending a minimum of money on it.

Now you know how you can make a cultivator yourself. It remains to put your knowledge into practice.

Work on land plot takes a lot of time and effort. To make their life easier, summer residents use various tools that simplify the implementation of many tasks on the ground. A device for removing all weeds with roots can be made independently or you can buy a ready-made tool. All of them are quite easy to use and help to facilitate the work. Let's talk about the most common.

Its second name is Sapa. This is something between a shovel and a pickaxe. Sapa - the main tool of gardeners - is the most beloved, most common and versatile. The aisles are loosened with a chopper, potato rows are spud, weeds are cleared virgin areas, break up large clods of earth. Chopper will help plant seedlings, plant various seeds. The working part of the chopper must be made of high quality steel. This part is in the form of a triangle, rectangle or trapezoid (the latter is the most convenient to work with).

The handle for the chopper should be comfortable in height and thickness and made of wood.

Sapa (hoe) combined

This weed remover consists of two tools - glanders and a rake. It has the appearance of a rectangular blade made of steel. One side has a sharp edge (sometimes blunt), the other side has several teeth. The tool must be placed on a wooden holder of a convenient length. With this tool it is possible to successfully remove and collect weeds between rows of closely spaced plants at the same time. In addition, it can be used to clear and level the ground the day before planting. It will help to make grooves, spud plants, loosen the ground.

Weed Rake

This device helps to gently pull out of the ground weed, which has a long root with the help of sharp steel teeth. The teeth are deeply stuck into the ground, clasping the root. You can do this without much effort. Removing the root comes down to a few movements:

  • we insert the tool into the ground where the weed grows;
  • we capture it;
  • pull out;
  • remove weeds in a trash can.

The procedure is clear, focused and very effective. This maintains cleanliness. This tool is convenient to use in flower beds and lawns to destroy weeds with deep roots (, dandelions).

Cultivator-root remover

This garden puller will help get rid of the long, rod-shaped roots that plantain, sorrel, and dandelion have. In addition, with its help, you can also get rid of the roots of old thickened shrubs, which can be equated to weeds. The tool looks like a two-pronged fork with flat wide teeth and a gap between them.

The special arrangement and shape of the root remover teeth help to do this job quickly and easily. In addition, the device helps to process the trunk circle fruit trees without harming the roots. The cultivator is easy to handle: it is easy to assemble and operate. Instructions for use will tell you how to assemble it.

V-shaped root remover

This is another version of the root remover. It has a V-shaped blade mounted on a long handle. It helps to easily get rid of weeds with well-branched fibrous roots. It happens quite simply. You pick the V-shaped part of the tool at the very base of the plant and remove it from the ground. Long taproots cannot be completely removed, but the main part of the root will pull out. Usually the root remover is made of high-quality steel.

Fork

Without this tool, your weed control, anywhere, will not do. The tool has the appearance of a curved metal nozzle, which significantly increases the strength of the handle. And this, in turn, allows you to easily cope with weeds that have deep and well-developed roots. Forks with 45-degree tines can do shallow loosening while removing loose weeds in the ground.

It should be added that the tool is easy to use, has great reliability, does not take up much space. In addition, it is easy to use on small patches of land and where it is difficult to reach weeds.

Fokine flat cutter

This device is convenient to use against weeds. small sizes. The flat cutter can be buried 2-3 cm into the ground. With it, you can avoid the tedious plucking of small weeds. When working, it, like a scythe, is pulled underground parallel to its surface.

You can make a weed removal tool yourself, for this you can adapt old unusable inventory, as well as other improvised and easily accessible materials. Easy-to-use devices will greatly facilitate the fight against weeds.

weeder

It can be made from a board about 30 cm long and up to 10 cm wide. The board should be processed with a plane, the corners should be rounded and sanded. Then a few nails must be hammered into the board. Determine the quantity yourself. These will be the weeder teeth. The thickness of the handle should be made in such a way that it is comfortable to hold in your hands, and its length allows you not to bend over. The handle must be firmly fixed.

It is good to use a weeder for the destruction of weeds that have not yet risen.

Ripper

It can be made from old pitchforks. The teeth should be cut, leaving a length of 10 cm, straighten them and sharpen. Then you need to insert a long handle so that it is convenient to work without bending over.

Hoe

It will always come in handy: both after rain and after watering. It loosens the soil, while cutting the weeds. To work with wet ground, a lightweight hoe is more convenient. To do this, in the plane of the old hoe, you need to cut a hole in the shape of a rectangle. The earth will pass through the hole, which means less sticking to the work plane.

Manual cultivator

It is made from a durable sheet of metal. For manufacturing, cut out 4 strips 15 cm long and 3 cm wide, as well as a base bar (arbitrary size). Then bend them at a right angle and weld to the bar. On the reverse side, a holder should be fixed. The metal working part of the cultivator must be sharpened. You will get a lightweight cultivator that can loosen the ground and remove weeds.

Root remover

A root weeder can be made from a spade. His canvas must be cut on both sides, starting from the top, and narrowing to the bottom. This tool is very handy for deep cutting roots of bushes.

Success in the fight against weeds can be achieved only by applying comprehensive measures to destroy it. This is where special equipment can be of great help. Each device fulfills its purpose, so they should be selected individually, in accordance with the circumstances that have developed in your garden.
