Printing of printing products is a set of materials and processing processes that result in a finished product.
In order to correctly draw up the Terms of Reference (TOR) for a miscalculation to the printing house, you need to divide the product into its main components:

1) Prepress- Includes product design and layout.
Perhaps you already have a design, and all you need is layout or layout adjustment. In this case, it is advisable to first talk with the designer so that he determines the scope of work and the preliminary cost. If you already have a ready-made layout, then in T.Z. you indicate - "there is a ready-made printed layout."
If there is no layout, then to create it you need to specify the format, the material on which it is supposed to be printed, and the printing method.
Layout restrictions may apply depending on the printing method.
In turn, the layout can be subdivided according to the color and layout complexity. You can discuss all these details with our designer in advance.

2) Seal. This includes a description of the materials used for printing. this product, indicates the method of printing, the number of colors, circulation. But the first item is always the format of the product. If this is a brochure or other product that requires a spread, then you need to specify the format in folded form and in spread. Or specify the folded format and add the orientation (portrait or landscape).
The main material for the production of printing is paper. Paper is divided into 3 main categories: offset, coated and design. Each specific paper may have restrictions on the printing method, therefore, before choosing, consult with the manager or designer. Coated paper is divided into matte and glossy, and also has several options for density, which must be indicated when drawing up the terms of reference. For offset paper, it is enough to specify the density. For design paper, we indicate the name, density, color and, in some cases, the presence or absence of texture.
Next, specify the printing method. This can be offset, digital, large format printing, screen printing, or a combination of these methods. According to the number of colors, printing is divided into full color (SMYK) and printing with pantone colors (usually no more than 5-6). Full color is usually denoted by the number 4 (according to the number of colors used for printing: Cian, Magenta, Yelloy, Black). If the print is one-sided, then they write 4 + 0, two-sided 4 + 4. It happens that on the one hand it is full color, and on the other hand only black or some kind of pantone, then we write 4 + 1 where the number 1 means that the back is printed in one color. If there are 2 colors on the back, then we write 4 + 2 and so on. The same principle of printing designation applies to printing with pantones. Each number indicates the number of colors on one of the sides. But for pantone printing, this number can be from 1 to 6 or even more. For example, the face and back can be printed in 3 colors - then we write 3 + 3 and indicate the pantone numbers in brackets. If pantones are different for the face and back, then we indicate separately for the face and back. CMYK printing is often combined with Pantone printing. For example, you need to print full color + gold on one side and full color on the other. In this case, we write 5 + 4, and in brackets we decipher the number 5 as CMYK + gold (be sure to indicate the pantone number, for example Pantone 1225 C).
With digital printing, only the CMYK option is possible, although recently there have been separate instances of machines capable of printing in pantones, widespread they haven't received it yet. But with silk-screen printing, CMYK is not possible, since the colors do not mix, but can only be superimposed on each other.

3) post-print processing. This stage production includes the actions that must be performed on a printed sheet in order to turn it into a finished product. It can be: lamination, creasing, embossing, cutting, varnishing, laminating and much more. Be sure to check the terms of reference for a complete and detailed list of post-print processing, as often these works are more expensive than the printing itself.
At the end of any technical task, there should be a circulation (number of products), packaging (if it matters) and a production time (if there is a specific deadline by which the products must be ready).

So, your T.Z. to the typography is compiled correctly if it contains answers to the following questions:

For example, you want to order: leaflet, flyer, booklet, invitation:

1) Product type? - (for example, a booklet)

2) Product format? - (for example A4)

3) Paper? — (for example, coated, glossy, 150 gr.)

4) Print? — (for example 4+4)

5) Lacquering? — (for example offset varnish 1+1.)

6) Post-print processing? - (for example, 2 bigs on the short side.)

7) Circulation? - (for example 5000 pcs.)

8) Packing? — (for example, 5 packs of 1000 pcs.)

9) Deadline? - if critical certain period- it must be specified. By default, the production time for sheet products is 3-5 working days.

10) Delivery? - Delivery to the customer's warehouse.

To order multi-page products such as brochures and catalogs, you must additionally specify the number of strips (pages), the type of fastening (for example, a staple or KBS), as well as the cover material, if it differs from the material of the main unit.

An example of a technical assignment.

The mold is a special mold having a very complex structure and used for casting products from non-ferrous metals under pressure.
The production of a mold is a rather expensive and time-consuming process, which includes both the design and, in fact, the manufacture of the mold. However, in the serial production of products, the use of molds is very profitable and fast way metal castings..
The production of molds (dies) includes several stages, depending on the complexity of the mold.

Stages of production of molds (dies)

  • The customer provides a drawing of the product or a sample of the casting, for which it is necessary to make molds;
  • The customer provides the terms of reference for the required mold. AT terms of reference the operating conditions of the product, the material, the volume of casting products that are planned to be received, and other requirements are indicated. Taking into account the planned volumes of casting, the optimal ratio of the parameters of the mold (stamp) will be calculated (number of nests in the mold / mold resource);
  • Design a 3D model of the product, which clearly shows appearance products obtained at the output, develop all design documentation;
  • Making a mold (stamp);
  • The customer is provided with a sample made on the manufactured mold. Comments are accepted, if necessary, the form is finalized;
  • Production of the required number of molds;
  • Delivery of molds to the customer.
