What it is?
This is a sawn cedar trunk that has lain in the river for more than 50 years. Sapwood of a cedar trunk, throughout long term time under water, becomes covered with blue and overgrown with moss, and the wood acquires an unusual pleasant pinkish color. Moss with rotten sapwood is first cut down with an ax by hand, and then only sawn into boards.
Under water internal stress wood is balanced, so the product made of stained cedar does not bend, does not crack and lasts forever!

And so, the material for the frame is ready. For comparison, we photographed a cut with a cutter on a board of stained cedar and ordinary dry cedar, so that the texture and color of the material could be seen.

We will put the base of the frame for the mirror on wooden dowels, when the frame was glued together, we used screws. We check the angle of the frame, it is necessary that the angle be 90 degrees:

We make dowels from hardwoods: either birch or maple. We make dowels manually with a chisel:

We insert a wooden dowel into a drilled corner:

We cut the dowel flush and here the frame for the mirror is assembled on wooden dowels:

Today we have milled two details of the carved pattern. We sawed them out of the shield array.
We cut the ends:

We must cut the back side of the carved ornament so that the pattern is light and airy:

Now we need to cut the entire carved ornament manually with cutters. This will take several days. Therefore, we will show the already cut mirror elements as soon as we cut them out.
If our guests are interested in how the finished wooden carved mirror will look like, then you are welcome to our workshop!

About carved frames

Be it a painting, be it a rare wall tapestry, be it work of fiction- all of them, being framed in a stylish frame, take on a different look, look different and attract the eye.

Any mirror needs a beautiful frame. Collages and photographs in a harmoniously selected frame look different.

It should be noted that any of the carved frames can be painted in desired color with a matte or glossy finish. It all depends on the interior, the purpose of the carved frame and the personal preferences of the owner.

Having preserved the pattern of the texture of the precious wood from which the frame is made, it will look noble and stylish. You can never confuse such a frame with a frame made by a conveyor method with a relief polymer layer applied. And in general - a real carving, if in addition it is made by a master with a soul, will always look nobler.

Carved frames to order

You can choose from the catalog any carved frame model that suits your needs in style, fill out the order form, specifying the dimensions of the attachment or the external overall dimensions of the frame, and send us an order. We will consider the options and be sure to contact you in the way you specified to clarify the details of the order.

In addition, you can order from us the manufacture of any frame not presented in our catalog. To do this, send us drawings, photos, drawings or sketches of the required carved product (carved frame) in the order letter. Designers of the Art Studio "site" will be able to translate your wishes into computer model. Our production capabilities will allow us to produce the required carved frame, which in the future will delight both your eyes and the eyes of your guests and friends.

Production of carved frames, carved frames and frames in Voronezh. Delivery to any point in Russia.

Instruction

You should start with the size of the future frame. Only for you, it will be for a photo of 10x15 or 9x12 cm. The next step is to measure desired length, and then carefully saw off the edges of the rail at an angle of 45 °. When the future sides of the frame are ready, we take the staple for the stapler and divide it into two equal L-shaped parts. With the help of such brackets, you can connect the two sides of the frame so that the joint remains completely invisible. But in order to fix and more durable, before connecting the sides with staples, you should lubricate them with glue.

After the glue dries, the frame is ready for paint to be applied to its surface, and there will be where to show your imagination!

Now, using the cutter, you need to cut out the drawing. To make everything turn out smoothly, substitute under the edges and draw the cutter strictly along the ruler. It is not worth cutting the main rectangle, but the entire drawing.
After you have cut out the drawing, you need to bend 4 rectangles on each side. Attach a ruler and fold each rectangle individually. So you should end up with a photo-sized rectangle in the center.
Next you will need glue. Keeping the design face down, fold and glue the rectangles on each side. When bending, you should get a three-dimensional rectangle on each side. Since you folded the rectangles along, they should be right side up.

After the 4 rectangles have been glued together, you should connect them together. To do this, push the ends of one rectangle into another, fastening with glue. So . All 4 rectangles should be glued to each other.
So, we got a volume. If you want to make it even more beautiful, do all the operations again. Having received 2 volumetric frames, fasten them together with pieces of cardboard so that you get doors.

Helpful advice

A picture or photograph placed in a three-dimensional frame will become original gift.

Surely everyone in the house has a photo that you don't mind putting in frame and hang it in a conspicuous place so that it is always in front of your eyes. Now there are many ways to do frame. But there are problems with the manufacture of an oval.

You will need

  • - a computer with a printer;
  • - A3 paper for printing;
  • - three pieces of natural felt different colors according to the size of the future frame;
  • - a device for hanging pictures;
  • - 1 sheet of thick cardboard;
  • - pencil;
  • - scissors;
  • - glue.

Instruction

Do it for your item first. It will consist of three oval frames of different colors and sizes, glued one on top of the other. To do this, print the ovals created in the graphics editor on paper. The first - the size of the outer diameters 40 and 20, the second - 38 and 18, the third - 35 and 15. These dimensions inner diameters given conditionally. You determine them yourself according to the size of the photo you are taking for, but the inner diameters of the second oval must be smaller than the inner diameters of the first, similarly with the third and second ovals. The edges of the first oval can be left smooth, but wavy patterns can be cut with scissors. At the second oval, cut out the edges like a flower, and make the third oval 1.5-2 cm thick so that it fits completely on the second one.

Transfer each paper oval to felt and cut it out. Choose a color for each oval. Decide on the inner edges of the first oval, as they are completely dependent on the photo. Fit the photo to the frame. If the photo is larger, then you need to crop it a little. The third is the narrowest oval, glue it to the second. Glue the second oval to the third in the same way.

Let the glue dry. Cut out of a dense oval slightly smaller than the first. When the glue dries, glue the frames from along the edge to to fit the photo in the middle. On the reverse side of the frame, attach the hanging device. Let the glue dry well and then you can already put the photo on the wall.

note

If, after the frame is already made, the photo does not fit inside the frame, round off its sharp edges and cut off the unnecessary.

Helpful advice

You can change the design of the frame to your liking, add all sorts of little things for the decorative effect of the product. To know when the glue dries, read the instructions for it.

In order for your photo to have a finished look, it must be inserted into frame. You can, of course, use ready-made ones. A large number of a variety of psd frames designed by photo designers for literally every occasion. However, in order to arrange your photos in the same style (to organize a photo gallery, for example), you need to make your own, branded frame.

Instruction

So open up photograph in Photoshop and unlock the layer. To do this, double-click on the layer thumbnail and click OK in the window that opens.

Now we need to create a new layer. If you simply execute the command "Create a new layer", then it will be formed above the main layer. Since the new layer must be placed under it, by running the command with the ctrl key pressed.

Stand on the newly created layer and from the "Image" menu select "Canvas Size...". In the window that opens, you need to set the size of the canvas, larger than the size of the image. Select the unit of measure - percentage, set the width - 10%, the height - 7%. Check the "Relative" box, the location is centered. If you want to leave an autograph, your signature or logo at the bottom of the frame, repeat the last step, set the size of the new canvas to width - 0%, height - 7%, location - up.

Fill this layer with black by pressing alt+delete. If you need a different border color, fill the layer with the desired color first.

Now shade photograph. To do this, double-click on the photo layer or click the "Add Layer Style" button. Select "Stroke..." from the menu. Set the size - 4px, position - inside, color - white.
If the design option does not suit you, try experimenting with color, stroke size, and other overlay options.

Now it remains to use the "Text" tool and place a signature or logo on the frame. Your frame is ready.

Are you satisfied with the result? Then write the entire algorithm of actions into an action (menu "Window" - "Operations" - "Create an operation"). Now you do not need to do the same steps for each photo. Select the desired photos, run the newly created action for each of them. The photos are ready, print them out and create your own photo gallery.

Since ancient times, when people only learned how to build dwellings, they wanted to somehow decorate their home. Beyond purely decorative purpose, various patterns also had sacred meaning: paintings, amulets, carvings served as amulets for superstitious villagers. Until the revolution, carvings were used to decorate the facades of houses, window frames, as well as interior decoration churches and temples. Later, in the Soviet Union, this art was, if not completely forgotten, then preserved only in a small part, mainly in villages and villages. Photos, drawings and even the most simple sketches to create beautiful wood carvings will be useful to masters and beginners of this business.

At present, almost all decorations have lost their sacred meaning, and such decoration of the interior and facades of houses has become an attribute of rich people or craftsmen. Not everyone can afford, say, furniture with carved legs or figured skirting boards in an apartment: most of it is made by hand, so either wealthy people order it for interior design, or craftsmen cut it out for themselves and their home.

At present, carving is taught in some schools, courses and even universities. But it is not necessary to pay a lot of money for training, it is possible to master this skill on your own, using our selection of photographs, drawings and simple sketches to create beautiful wood carvings.

Various tools, both manual and electric, are used to carve wood.. The electric ones include a milling cutter, an electric jigsaw, a drill, and electric multifunctional machines can also come in handy. Concerning hand tool, then there is even more choice: various chisels help in carving, manual jigsaw and a hacksaw, files, carpentry mallets, sandpaper. In addition, specialized sets for sawing wood are sold. You can buy them in large construction stores, as well as order on Chinese sites. Just beware of too cheap options, because the quality may not be appropriate for working with such demanding material.

In addition to tools, you will need stains, varnish and brushes for their application. They will be needed after performing artistic carving for the final decoration of ornaments.

We study the varieties of artistic wood carving

There are many types of artistic carving. They differ in the way they cut appearance finished product and in some cases tools for their manufacture.

  • Through woodcarving - features and technology.

A through thread can be slotted or sawn. Slotted is made with a chisel or chisel. Sawing - the same, but the patterns are sawn with a jigsaw. Also, this type of thread is called openwork. Widely used for decoration window frames and facades of wooden houses.

  • Stencils for slotted woodcarving.

  • Flat wood carving: creation, varieties.

This type of carving is characterized by the fact that on a flat background the drawing is cut deep into. Depending on the ornament, it is divided into contour, geometric, bracketed. Contour carving looks like grooves cut into a flat background. Geometric contains a combination of shapes, hence its name. Bracket - the ornament consists of recesses in the form of brackets. The photo shows examples of work in a similar style, as well as drawings for performing work in this technique.

  • Technique of flat-relief woodcarving: types of ornaments, motifs.

Flat-relief carving is a three-dimensional ornament depicting animals, faces, even scenes, carved on wood and protruding from the background to the same height, that is, when viewed from the side, it looks flat, which is where the name came from. This technique is popular when making jewelry for boxes, paintings, and individual decorative elements.

  • Technique of sculptural woodcarving.

The most difficult, but also spectacular, can be called such a type of carving as sculptural. In this case, a wooden blank is needed, from which a three-dimensional element is gradually cut out with chisels and various curly tools. This technique includes various souvenirs and figurines, sometimes the legs of tables, chairs and sofas, and you can also cut out a detail, for example, for a photo frame or other decorative element, after individual parts glued to the base.

How to work with templates and stencils for woodcarving

To create your first product made using the carving technique, you need to print a stencil and transfer it to a tree. This can be done using carbon paper, as well as cutting along the contour of the paper and circling it with a pencil. Next, cut along the contours using the selected technique. Best for beginners slotted thread, because in this case it is necessary to properly hold the tool in your hands and follow the contour clearly. And for masters who already have more experience, the following sketches will come in handy for more complex techniques.

The ancient art of carving wood and plywood has always been considered a fascinating pastime, with the help of carved decorations, towers and huts of unique beauty were erected, most of which are still classified as architectural monuments. Wood carving, or wood carving, is becoming a popular craft, used to make large and small masterpieces. Beginning craftsmen are helped to create masterpieces by ready-made stencils for woodcarving - special templates for creating three-dimensional ornaments and patterns.

The ancient art of wood carving has always been considered a fascinating pastime.

Stencils for woodwork are used to transfer ready-made identical patterns to a three-dimensional plane. Most often, such work is done to decorate walls and window casings, which is why sketches for working with wooden surfaces are considered the most common.

Carved patterns made using a stencil are divided by craftsmen into several types:

  • ribbon carved ornament;
  • carved platbands;
  • carved balusters;
  • pilaster;
  • towels
  • brackets.

According to such ready-made templates, even a novice master can compose and independently create a unique drawing and a real masterpiece of carved art. With the help of a ready-made stencil, you can easily decorate any wood product. Artistic cutting and openwork drawings, as a rule, will come in handy when decorating:

  • pieces of furniture;
  • dishes;
  • frames for paintings or photographs;
  • caskets.

In the event that the master wants to convey certain national motifs or features of the subject in his work, you should first study the subtleties and nuances of ornaments and patterns.

Sketches for patterns: instructions

Those masters who not so long ago picked up tools, experienced craftsmen recommend taking into account the following nuances in preparation for work:

  • the engraving template should be as simple and understandable as possible, without complex and ornate elements;
  • for each type of thread there are templates for work;
  • lines from the existing template to the material for work are transferred as accurately as possible, since this is the only way to achieve accuracy in work.

When choosing a drawing for its subsequent transfer to the material, it is worth considering a number of subtleties that will help to make the product professionally and skillfully.

  1. For a large product, you should not choose an openwork ornament or a pattern with small details. Such a pattern will be lost on the finished item and will not make it unique.
  2. Small things are not decorated with patterns with large elements and ornamental details, so as not to hide the shape and uniqueness of the product.
  3. The proportions when transferring details to fragments of the product should be observed to the finest so as not to violate the integrity of the finished ornament.

You should not start work without first creating a sketch, which you can make yourself or download ready-made photos from the Internet.

Carved mirror frames: an interesting idea

Art Nouveau interior lovers will love carved frames framing paintings or mirrors.

Such interior items not only look rich and unique, but add a special “zest” to the interior of the room. For cutting frames for a mirror, experts recommend using several basic styles for work.

  1. The double baroque style contains two contours inside and outside, represented by openwork curls. The craftsmen included a feather profile in this style, it reflects some lightness and elegance of a rectangular piece.
  2. For mirrors, the feather profile with a back is ideal, providing a dense back, where the mirror is attached.
  3. The refined profile also has the style of a dumbbell, despite the somewhat massive frame. It is these frames that hold a heavy and massive mirror well.

Art Nouveau interior lovers will love the carved frames framing paintings or mirrors.

For the manufacture of mirror frames, special decoration methods are also used:

  • gilding with preliminary polishing;
  • varnishing with a transparent composition;
  • patina, or artificial aging of wood;
  • antique decoration with cracks called craquelure.

In order to transfer the pattern from the stencil to the product, soft pencils are used, transferring the ornament as accurately and accurately as possible.

Stencils pictures for jigsaw and woodcarving in pencil: how to make

Those craftsmen who are just starting to try themselves as a woodcarver should understand that high-quality cutting can be done only after the template for cutting has been correctly prepared.

  1. Initially, it is worth deciding on a blank for carving. Beginning craftsmen better fit geometric carving on a plane or a simple wooden figurine.
  2. A sketch is made on paper with a pencil, while the main zones and places where threading is planned are clearly defined on it.
  3. With the help of special devices for drawing, the image is transferred to graph paper.
  4. Repeating parts are made of thick paper or thick cardboard.
  5. The finished paper pattern is fixed on a wooden base and copied.

In the manufacture of stencils for carvings made in the slotted technique, craftsmen recommend initially using thick paper for patterns.

Geometric and flat-relief carving: what is it

Name geometric carving on wood comes from the main details and elements at the base of the pattern: geometric shapes, shapes and their elements. Use such ornaments to decorate furniture, household utensils.

To create this engraving, you will need a simple set of tools:

  • a piece of board made of soft wood;
  • special knife-jamb;
  • simple soft pencil;
  • ruler.

In the manufacture of the product, an overhead paper blank is not required, since elements of a geometric pattern can be applied directly to a wooden blank.

relief carving is done in a similar way, but the pictorial elements are not geometric figures, and images of animals, elements of nature, people. This type of carving is also used for making backgammon.

The finished product can be treated with a colorless varnish

For such a wood engraving you will need materials:

  • a set of cutters for wood;
  • soft wood blank;
  • sandpaper, pencils.

A product is manufactured in accordance with a certain sequence of actions.

  1. The wood is pre-cleaned and prepared for work. The drawing is applied to carbon paper and transferred to the workpiece.
  2. The contour carving is made according to the drawing, the relief and the frame of the product are pre-selected.
  3. Upon completion, the work is processed with stain, dye or simply watercolors. Cleaned up with sandpaper.

The finished product can be treated with a colorless varnish.

Flowers: Wood Carving for Beginners

Flowers are one of the main elements of many wood carving patterns. Cutting this element is not difficult, it is important to follow the sequence of actions and the principle of operation.

  1. On the wooden surface a drawing is applied in the form of circles and the details of the future flower are marked.
  2. The central circles are cut in a circle, after which they are cut from the outer circle to the center.
  3. After marking the petals, they are cut along the contour, cutting off the triangles between the petals, after which the outer contour of each petal is cut.
  4. An incision is made inside the flower, rounding the center of the drawing element.

You can decorate the picture with any additional motifs; the geriolac base of the product provides ample opportunities for toning.
