At what height to put the TV. Recommended installation height of the TV in the apartment

Mounting your TV on the wall is easy. The main thing is to take into account the features of the room, the features of the walls, and choose the right fasteners. Given these parameters, you can determine at what height to hang the TV on the wall.

At what height to hang the TV on the wall depending on the room

The TV is installed in the kitchen, bedroom or living room. At what height to hang the TV on the wall, so as not to lose image quality and not harm your eyesight?

Kitchen

The kitchen TV often serves as a kind of background during cooking. In this case, the center of the monitor must be opposite the eyes of a standing person. If the kitchen has a seating area, the center of the panel corresponds to the eye level of the seated person.

Mounting the monitor is convenient:

 • on the cabinet (for a large kitchen);
 • on the wall (1.5 m from the floor).

You can hang the panel over the refrigerator, it is forbidden to do this near the stove, oven, taps.

Living room

In the living room we watch TV different points. Therefore, it is important to consider the place from which you watch TV programs (sofa, chair).

Watching TV on the couch? The optimal height of the TV monitor is about 1 meter. If you prefer viewing while sitting at a table on a chair, a height of 1.4–1.5 m is recommended.

Medical advice:

 • the head cannot be lowered or thrown back when viewing;
 • from the eyes to the TV there should be a distance of 2-3 times the diagonal of the monitor;
 • Place the center or upper third of the screen opposite your eyes.

Bedroom

The TV in the bedroom is hung on the wall opposite the head of the bed with an inclination of 30 °, so that it is convenient to watch it half-sitting and lying down.

Which mount is best to use

3 types of mounts for TV monitors have been developed:

 • hard;
 • oblique;
 • adjustable.

Adjustable arm is universal, inclined is suitable for the bedroom, rigid - for the kitchen or living room.

Step by step installation instructions

This will require the following tools:

 • perforator (for concrete and brick) or drill (for wood and drywall);
 • mounting bracket, dowels;
 • wiring detector;
 • wrench;
 • a hammer;
 • roulette;
 • level.

To hang a TV with a ready-made bracket, you must perform the following steps:

 1. Determine the presence of concealed wiring in the place of fastening with a detector.
 2. Measure the distance from the bottom of the back of the monitor to the mounting holes.
 3. Measure from the floor 1 meter plus the resulting measurement.
 4. Use a level to draw a horizontal line.
 5. Attach to the straight mount at the level of the lower holes.
 6. Mark and drill at the marked points.
 7. Drive in the dowels with a hammer.
 8. Attach the suspension to the wall, twist wrench bolts.
 9. Hang up the TV.

Video: How to hang a TV on the wall with your own hands

In the absence of a bracket, you can use the "ears" on the back of the monitor or make a suspension with your own hands. It is important to take into account the weight of the device: brick and concrete will withstand more than 30 kg, drywall will not.

Wall mounting your TV is easy if you know how high to hang it. Observe simple rules, and comfort when watching TV is guaranteed.

You can’t just take and hang the TV on the wall the way your intuition, brother, matchmaker or friendly neighbor spiderman advises you. The issue must be approached seriously and with all responsibility, of course, unless a stiff and, in the long run, injured neck is not part of the plan.

The height at which the TV is hung is calculated separately for each case. This is done quite simply and is within the power of anyone who has a centimeter tape in the house.

What you need:

 • TV size (diagonal). You can read how to find out the diagonal of the TV;
 • The distance at which you want to watch TV. It is advisable not to take the viewing distance from the ceiling, but choose it depending on the screen resolution and the diagonal of the TV. About it. But, if you do not want to bother with exact data, you can use universal way- multiply the diagonal of the TV by 1.82;
 • Sit in the place where you will watch TV and measure the distance from the floor to the level of your eyes. Well, or ask someone to help you if you can't do it yourself.

If you have more than one family member, you can measure all adults in the family and calculate the average for Floor to Eye Height. We don’t take children into account, because they grow up quickly - this is one, you don’t grow down - this is two.

Now, to calculate the optimal height at which you need to hang the TV, we use the formula:

VUT = VDUG + (RDT * 0.22), where:

 • VUT- installation height of the TV;
 • ARCH- height to eye level;
 • RDT- distance from the TV. You can calculate, or you can enter your value;
 • 0,22 - coefficient, which is based on the average value of the inclination of a person when viewing while sitting - 10-15 degrees. That is, if you are an average user who watches TV while sitting, for example, on the couch, then this formula is for you. If the angle of your inclination relative to the vertical position is more than 15 degrees (for example, 45 degrees - reclining), then this formula is not suitable for calculating the desired height.

Now you will say - "So let's calculate the coefficient for other degrees!". The fact is that I have no idea how the developers of the formula got from the number 12.5 (the average of 10-15) a coefficient of 0.22. By what method they conjured this value remains a mystery to me, no matter how much I searched, I did not find it, unfortunately.

Example

Let's say you have a 60″ TV. Before calculating at what height it is necessary to hang the TV, we also need to find out the optimal viewing distance (RDT), and as we know, for this you need to multiply the diagonal of the TV by 1.82 (this is in simple version, if you do not want to go deep and read the article, the link to which is above).

RDT=60*1.82=109.2″. The result is in inches, and we need to convert the data to the metric system, so we multiply 109.2 by 2.54 (the number of centimeters in an inch) and we get 277.37 cm

By measuring the height to eye level (ARH), we got, say, 100 cm. Now we have all the necessary data and we can calculate the height for installing a TV (VUT).

VUT = 100 + (277.37 * 0.22) = 161.02 cm, or 1 meter and 61 centimeters - this is the height at which our 60-inch TV should be hung.

For the lazy

For those who are too lazy to add and multiply, I made the formulas in an Excel file, you can download it from this link. There are two files in the archive, in the first one you need to enter the diagonal of the TV and the height to eye level, in the second the distance to the TV and the height to eye level.

That is, the first option is for those who did not bother with the exact distance to the TV and chose the option where the diagonal is multiplied by 1.82. And the second one is for those who already know the distance to the TV.

On this, perhaps, everything. Along the way, I came up with such a MEM ASIC.

You can not just take and hang up the TV. MEM

It takes ~2 minutes to read

Television has long been a familiar item. household appliances which is in every home. With it, you can find out latest news Or watch a movie with your family. Recently, plasma LCDs that can be hung on the wall have become popular. Undoubtedly, this is very convenient and saves free space in the apartment, but not everyone can decide at what height to hang the TV.

Location

When choosing at what height to hang the TV, you need to consider the location, that is, the room in which it will be placed. For example, in the kitchen, TV is watched while sitting, and in the bedroom, lying down. This plays a big role. If the screen is not properly positioned, viewing it will be uncomfortable and may adversely affect the eyes.

Bedroom

The bedroom is a relaxation room, so many people prefer to install a TV in it. To determine the height of the TV suspension, you need to lie on the bed and relax. When you take a comfortable position, you need to close your eyes, and then open them. The point where the eye immediately falls on the wall is the optimal height for placing the screen. Doctors recommend not to install the TV parallel to the wall, this can lead to cervical osteochondrosis. Optimal slope is 30 about. In order to install the screen at an angle, it is necessary to purchase mounts for the bracket with adjustment in two planes. This means that the screen should tilt not only up and down, but also left and right. In this case, even after rearranging the furniture, it will be enough to adjust the fasteners, and the screen will again be placed in the optimal place.

Kitchen

Cooking, washing dishes, and of course, eating, are much more interesting watching TV. It is for this reason that in many homes the TV is installed in the kitchen. Usually in the kitchen, TV is listened to more than watched, but you still need to take care of its correct location.

Deciding at what height to hang the TV in the kitchen is necessary, depending not only on the placement of the outlet, but also on other factors. It is worth paying attention to the window, because sunlight may create reflections that interfere with comfortable viewing of TV. It is not advisable to place the panel near a stove or water source. If eating does not take place in the kitchen, then plasma should be installed taking into account viewing in a standing position. This takes into account the growth of households, and it is advisable to purchase hangers for the bracket.

Living room

It is in the living room that the whole family most often gathers to watch movies, so there is a TV in this room in almost every home. The height of the wall mount TV in the living room depends on the height of the sofa.

To determine at what height to hang the TV, a household with an average height should. For this you need:

 1. Sit on the couch, imagine you are looking at a screen, relax, then close your eyes.
 2. After a couple of minutes, you need to open your eyes and look at the wall. The point at which the eye fell should be marked with a pencil.
 3. Next, you should sit on an armchair or chair that is in the room.
 4. Also look at the wall in a relaxed state and mark a point with a pencil.
 5. Having done this manipulation while sitting on all pieces of furniture, you need to connect the resulting points into a geometric figure.
 6. You need to find the center of the resulting figure - now you will know at what height the TV should hang.

This method will allow you to find the most optimal place for mounting a shelf or TV mount.

Height

The answer to the question of how far from the floor to hang the TV depends on the height of the furniture, the height of family members, as well as the interior. Most often, the height of the screen from the floor in the living room is 75-160 centimeters. If the room is large, then the screen is placed as low as possible. In the bedroom, the height often does not exceed 50 centimeters above the level of the bed. In the kitchen, the monitor is usually placed on high altitude due to lack of free space. This option is only valid when using brackets.

Optimal distance

Many people neglect the safety of watching TV and do not take into account the screen size when placing it. But there are recommendations that will allow you to watch your favorite TV shows without harm to your own vision. It is believed that the distance to the screen should be equal to the sum of two or three of its diagonals. That is, if the diagonal of the monitor is 40 inches, then the distance should be at least 0.8 meters.

Installing the plasma too far is also not recommended, because this will lead to a large load on the spine. The eyes will also tire more due to the need to peer into details.

Before deciding at what height the TV should hang, you should take into account its diagonal and study the table of safe screen placement from the eyes well. It is worth making sure that watching TV is comfortable and safe for all family members. When installing plasma, the following points should be considered:

 • wall material. It is not always possible to hang the screen on the wall. For example, drywall wall not intended for this.
 • Window location. You should not place the screen on the wall opposite the window, otherwise the sun will light up the monitor.
 • Troubleshooting access. Keep in mind that in the event of a breakdown, you will need access to the device.

Some people become so attached to the TV remote that they seem to take it with them when they go grocery shopping. Indeed, the role of TV in our lives is difficult to overestimate, but we would not consider it exclusively in a negative context. In the end, modern wide-screen models allow you to watch not only popular TV shows, but also any movie in superb HD quality. Or even 4K. What's wrong with family fun? But in order for this leisure to really attract all family members, you need to create the most comfortable environment for everyone.
One of the questions that invariably arises in this case is at what height to hang the TV on the wall? It is necessary to take into account the viewing angle, the minimum distance from the eyes, as well as a few other equally important things (for example, how to hide the wires from the TV on the wall). About all this - today in the material. We distribute helpful tips and pay attention to important nuances- everything as you like.

What to pay attention to

A new TV is always positive emotions, pleasant hopes and anticipation of something insanely interesting. All this, of course, is incredibly good, but it seems very important in the wake of enthusiasm not to make a mistake with its correct installation on the wall. For this, the following factors must be taken into account:

 • interior features- the location of the TV should be clearly visible, should not be overloaded with unnecessary details;
 • room size- an important point that determines the peculiarity of the arrangement of furniture for viewing;
 • average height of family members- everything is simple here: add up the total "footage" and divide by the number of households;
 • outlet placement- any television receiver will require at least a pair of sockets, so pay attention to the distance to the nearest one if you do not want to litter the space with ugly wires;
 • device dimensions- the larger the diagonal, the higher the fixation on the wall can be carried out, this is due to the fact that the viewing angle decently narrows with distance;
 • furniture features- the height of a sofa, armchair or any other furniture also affects the viewing angle, so it would be an unforgivable mistake not to take this information into account when deciding on the hanging height.

Nuances of fasteners

For almost every TV model, you can choose several options for mounting on the wall - this is stated by the manufacturer himself.

 • hard- eliminates the possibility of turning and changing the viewing angle, almost closely adjacent to the wall - there is only a tiny gap for ventilation, if you are going to use this method, then you definitely will not have the right to make a mistake with determining the height;
 • inclined- here the gap is already at least a dozen centimeters and it was not done by chance: the device can be tilted vertically, thereby adjusting the viewing angle, which can be very useful if you are going to watch a movie or TV show, for example, in a prone position;
 • universal- most difficult option, which will perfectly allow, in which case, not only to correct the vertical tilt, but also to turn the receiver left or right.

In order to hang the TV on the wall, you do not need any special knowledge. You will only need perforator and corresponding type bracket. As a rule, hardware for fixing is already included in the kit, so you do not have to frantically search for the right size.

We offer a video that shows the entire process of mounting a TV on a wall from start to finish.

Height detection

Some important points, to ignore which is a serious mistake, we have already touched upon above. Now the turn has come to pay attention to another one, which will largely determine the height we set. This is about functional purpose of the room. It is not uncommon for there to be TV sets not only in the living room, so paying attention to some specifics of their placement is our "sacred duty".

In the living room

 • traditional location;
 • it is necessary to organize viewing from different points.

In fact, the living room is the most a large room in home. There is a lot of furniture, chairs, armchairs - you can watch TV from any point, but at what height to hang it so that the viewing angle is optimal from any of them?

We suggest doing the following:

 1. sit down on the main point from which you plan to view;
 2. look at the wall;
 3. the head should not be thrown back - this is fraught with excessive stress on the cervical vertebrae;
 4. the eye should look exactly in the middle of the screen;
 5. determine the distance from the eyes to the middle of the screen (scale 1 to 3: with a footage of a meter, a distance of 3 meters is considered optimal).

Most often for the living room, the optimal height will be 1.4-1.6 meters from the floor . For fasteners, choose a universal bracket - this will allow you to change the angle of inclination in case of something or even turn the screen in the other direction.

In the bedroom

 • installation perpendicular to the bed is recommended;
 • for fixing, use inclined brackets.

Most often, a person lies in the bedroom.

It is this fact that explains the need for a perpendicular installation bed. So you can safely enjoy watching in a comfortable position for yourself. True, there is one caveat in this: if you mount the TV on the wall with an ordinary rigid bracket, then the center of the screen will invariably be higher. about 30 degrees - that is why the inclined mount is recommended, which allows you to tilt the TV to the required angle and get an excellent view without losing picture quality and unnecessary eyeball strain.

Optimal height - 1.2-1.4 meters .

In the nursery

 • take into account the growth of the child;
 • it is necessary to optimize the placement height, taking into account its active use toys.

In general, in modern children's LCD panels are most often replaced by a computer, and if we are talking about the baby, then the question completely loses its relevance. However, if your growing child does not want to put up with the lack of a TV in his personal room, then we recommend that you:

 1. fix the TV at a height of 1.2 meters so that it is convenient for the child to watch movies anywhere;
 2. use a universal bracket - it is likely that the panel will rotate regularly, and given type fasteners guarantee perfect viewing from anywhere in the room.

In the kitchen

 • in order to organize comfortable viewing, think about the position in which you will most often watch programs or films: lying down or sitting;
 • do not place the TV near the stove, hot appliances, water sources;
 • take care to suppress glare, which is inevitable if your kitchen faces the sunny side.

Optimal height - 1.2-1.5 meters above the floor . Of course, if you will predominantly choose a sitting position, it is best to choose a lower height.

Good Location Examples

Conclusion

It may seem that the question at what height to hang the TV on the wall belongs to the category of absolutely frivolous ones. However, it only seems so a priori, when you don't yet have the "pleasure" of throwing your head back, inexorably tensing your neck muscles in an attempt to achieve better visual contact with what is happening on the screen. After a month of such tedious viewings, it is time to turn not only to the surgeon, but also to the oculist, since the constant tension of the eyeball will also lead to problems in this area. There is only one way out - to take as seriously as possible even such initially seemingly insignificant issues as determining the height for a TV on the wall. Then modern technologies and ultra-high resolutions will bring real pleasure, and not cause irreparable harm your health.

After the repair in the bedroom, many also update the equipment in this room. After purchasing a TV, many do not know at what height to hang it. After all, from his correct location will depend not only on ease of viewing, but also on security.

Location

Before you decide at what height to hang the TV in the bedroom, you first need to decide on the place where exactly it will be located. He right choice The place will depend on the comfort of viewing, and the height at which the device itself will hang.

To determine the location, you need to lie on the sofa or bed in the bedroom in a comfortable and familiar position for you. Now you need to determine which wall the TV should be mounted on so that it is as convenient and comfortable to watch as possible.

Experienced experts say that the optimal location is considered to be a point drawn in a straight line from the center of the bed to the wall, and the height of this point will be adjusted later. It is with this arrangement that the TV will be clearly visible to all people who are located in the bedroom, and there will be no inconvenience when viewing it.

If the device will be hung in a single bedroom or nursery, it must be placed diagonally from the center of the bed. In this case, even when turning, there will be no discomfort during viewing, and the screen will be clearly visible from any position.

When the potential installation location of the TV has already been selected, you can directly proceed to the calculation of the height at which it will need to be fixed.

Height

You can choose the optimal height for the TV on the wall in one of two ways. The first is based on the usual ease of viewing, and the second is based on medical recommendations and advice from the manufacturer.

 • Determine the height level where the bracket mounts will be located, if lie down in your favorite position on the bed, close your eyes for a second, and then sharply open them and immediately look at the wall. The point at which your gaze rests will be the middle of the television screen. So, this is where the main bracket will be located. When choosing this option, it should be understood that parameters such as the distance from the bed to the wall and the dimensions of the screen diagonal are not taken into account here. So, choosing this method, you cannot be sure of the safety and comfort of your eyes when watching a TV hung in this way.
 • The second method is based on mathematical calculations and the advice of doctors. Optimal distance between the eyes and a device with a liquid crystal screen, its diagonal multiplied by three is considered, and for plasma screens this is the product of the diagonal and the number 4.

New TVs with an LED or 3D panel can have absolutely any screen diagonal size, but a different extension, for example, 720 or 1080 units. The mounting height of such TVs is calculated using a special formula:

 1. For TVs with screen extension 720 units, the mounting height is equal to the product of the diagonal of the screen by a factor of 2.3.
 2. For TVs with extension 1080 units, this value is equal to the product of the diagonal by a factor of 1.6.

But when choosing a height, it is also necessary to take into account the distance from the bed and directly from the eye to the screen of the device.

Optimal distance

Many ophthalmologists say that the minimum distance from the eyes to the TV cannot be less than its diagonal multiplied by two. Such a recommendation is fully justified, but it does not take into account the type of screen of this device and its resolution. Therefore, this method of calculating the distance from the eyes to the screen is applicable only to older models.

The distance from the eyes to the LCD TV should be no less than the sum of its two diagonals, and from the plasma monitor to the eyes - no less than the product of its diagonal and the number 3.

In order to watch the TV attached to the wall not only conveniently, but also safely, it is recommended to follow the following tips during its installation:

 1. Max deflection angle from the TV screen when viewing should not exceed 30 degrees.
 2. Minimum Height from the floor to install the TV cannot be less than 1 meter. Otherwise, there is a risk that the TV may be accidentally caught and fall.
 3. It is best to place sockets at a distance no more than 45 cm from the central bracket.
 4. It is very important to consider the height of the furniture, over which the gadget will be located. Minimum distance from the chest of drawers or sofa armrests to it - 25 cm.
 5. If possible, it is better to install an adjustable bracket. This will allow, if necessary, to change the angle of the TV, depending on the position on the bed and the number of people who will watch it.
 6. If the TV is installed in the children's bedroom, then it is better not to be limited to only one bracket. It is best to purchase a special wall-mounted TV stand. In general, the height for its installation is selected by any of the above methods.
 7. When buying a bracket, make sure that it can support the weight of your TV. It is best to purchase brackets specifically designed for your TV model.
 8. It is recommended to check periodically how securely the TV is fixed.

Finally, I would like to note once again that the correct height to which the TV should be mounted in the bedroom should be selected in accordance with all the above parameters, that is, the height of the furniture, the size of the room, the distance from the screen to the eyes. Only in this case it is possible to choose the correct and safe height for its fastening.

Having learned from this article at what height the TV should be located, we proceed to the installation of the TV bracket. See the video for more details.
