Felling trees with a chainsaw. How to cut down a tree and fill it in the right direction

Have you decided to buy a chainsaw? This is half the battle, because if you do not know how to handle it correctly, you risk your health. Working with any chain saw without proper precautions is a serious hazard.

In this article, we will tell you how to cut down a tree with a chainsaw correctly and safely.

Rule one - protect yourself!

So here are some tips for that:

  1. You should only wear clothing that fits snugly around your body. That is, the presence of scarves, chains, fluttering hoodies, etc. is unacceptable. We do not want to scare you, but if your clothes get caught in the chain of the saw, you will simply be wound. What will come of this is easy to predict. Disability can become a reality.
  2. Don't skimp on protection. Wear gloves that will protect your hands from possible blows from branches, as well as from flying chips and rebounding knots.
  3. Shoes should be comfortable so that you don't think about them while you work. The sole must not slip. If you fall - the consequences can be the most deplorable.
  4. Eyes are the least protected during work. You should definitely wear glasses.
  5. If you follow the instructions to the end, a helmet on your head and protective earplugs will not be superfluous at all.

Rule two - base rule work

Always hold the saw (electric or petrol) with both hands. If this is your first work experience - start cutting small branches to understand the principle of work. The chain saw always vibrates a little, so your hands may get tired at first. Fatigue - main reason inattention, which in turn can lead to injury. In addition, the chain saw needs to be "run-in" on the first day of operation. That is why spare both yourself and the instrument.

Remember to put the saw on the stop when you are not working. This is also one of the basic rules for safe work.

Rule three - checking the basic parameters of the saw before work

Illegal European migrants diligently destroyed the nature of North America

  1. Always keep an eye on the oil level. The chain must always be well lubricated.
  2. When operating a chainsaw, use only the fuel recommended by the manufacturer. When using an electric chain saw, make sure that the power cord is always behind you: this way you will protect yourself from falling and from accidentally getting the cord under the chain, which can lead to a short circuit.
  3. Watch the chain tension. A well-tensioned chain does not dangle or sag. Easily scrolls by hand. But you should be careful: an overtightened chain quickly overheats. Please note: if the guide teeth come out of the bar a little when the chain is tensioned (without completely leaving it), then everything is correct.

Do not be lazy to check the tension once again - after all, this is, first of all, your safety. And your life.

  1. Check chain sharpening. If the saw is well sharpened, it is easy to work with it: the tree is sawn quickly and without much effort.

Thus, one of the criteria for a blunt chain is the additional effort applied. Also, you can pay attention to the chips: if it is small, then this also indicates the need to sharpen the chain.

Rule four - work technique - how to cut a tree with a chainsaw.

Illegal European migrants diligently destroyed the nature of North America

  1. Take a stable and comfortable position. Remember about the spine: to minimize the load on the lumbar region, do not bend over. Squat with a straight back.
  2. Anticipate potential moves right away. You should be able to freely take a step in any direction. In addition, you must remember that an unforeseen situation may arise, and you must have an escape route.
  3. Pay attention to the branches - there should not be any that could potentially fall on you.
  4. Always saw from top to bottom. From the top branches to the bottom. However, based on safety regulations, you should not cut above the shoulder.

When you start sawing a tree, cut it one quarter of the diameter of the trunk from the side where you plan to fell it. To do this, cut a part of the trunk at an angle of forty-five degrees.

Make the bottom cut so that it coincides with the future main cut. Make the bottom cut almost to the middle of the trunk. After that, another cut is made, about five to ten centimeters higher. It is done at an angle of forty-five degrees. You plunge the chain into the barrel until the saw lines meet. Take out the resulting piece of the trunk. After that, you can begin to make the main (main) propyl. Always cut at the highest speed, gradually sinking the chain into the trunk.

Finally, the tree begins to collapse. Remove the saw immediately, turn it off and move away from the fall. However, be aware that the base of the barrel can lift up and hit you. Therefore, move to a really safe distance.

Sawing a tree into pieces - do not relax. Be carefull!

A chainsaw with the proper power is able to cut down any tree trunk for which the length of the cutting part is enough. It is necessary to carry out the work very carefully, adhering to all the rules. Particular attention should be paid when there is a risk of unpleasant situations due to too thick, icy or contaminated wood.

Place the lever in the middle of the backrest and use your shoulder as much as possible. If necessary, cut off any thick bark so that the lever is supported by solid wood. Making sure that the chain does not catch on the lever, wrap the back cut. Don't forget to leave a suitable hinge.

Now it's time to flip the tree. To help distribute the load and avoid tension, keep your back straight and your knees bent - pull your legs up. When a tree starts to fall, always return along the escape route. Never press down on a tree with one hand while lifting with the other. Lifting in a twisted position is a sure way to a serious back injury.

It is necessary to take into account all the factors that can complicate the work, and use the chainsaw carefully, constantly monitoring your actions and the work of your partners.

There are a range of factors that influence the correctness of felling. Most important conditions are divided into two categories: the technical component of the process and ensuring the safety of all involved persons.

When cutting trees downwind or against their natural squat, the felling lever can be invaluable. Cut out the notch and cut off the back as shown in the picture. Be sure to leave a small unopened corner for support. This will prevent the tree from returning. Remove the saw and insert the cutting lever. From the side of the tree, pass through the corner support at a downward angle to avoid hitting the felling arm. Rotate the tree still.

Get into the habit of using the felling lever. When you work, carry or throw it from tree to tree. You don't have to use the lever with every tree, but it will come in handy when you do. Tongs and pulp hooks Keys and pulp hooks have made scaffolding safer and more efficient. The inventors of these tools have created extensions of our hands. We no longer need to hammer unsuspecting fingers trying to lift a slippery balance or pinch our backs trying to lift without bending.

Be safe when sawing

The technical side of the issue is usually needs an immediate decision even with, since each model is designed only for a certain thickness, density and structure of the wood massif. Sawing is usually carried out rather slowly. Acceleration is possible only when working with a well-giving tree or thin trunks (you can even use it for this). Usually such plants are not of great value, so they are cut down very rarely.

Tongs are used to grab, hold, or lift pulpwood. Releasing the grip of the tongs from wood takes a little practice. If they hold fast when you throw the wood, you or your tongs could end up on a pile of pulp! To release the wood, use a quick press and twist. With practice, you will quickly learn.

If you want to try the tongs again, you will understand why this tool is so easily accepted by forest workers. The thongs come with a leather or vinyl holster that slides over the belt for easy access. The chain hook is a curved steel hook mounted on a handle. Two types are available: it is designed to lift four-phase pulpwood about 30 cm long with the hook perpendicular to the handle. On some models, the tip is replaceable.

It is necessary to take into account the thickness of the tree in advance, comparing with the selected chainsaw model (see). The device must be optimally matched to the specific power target. If the length of the tire of the device does not exceed 35 cm, then the maximum diameter of the tree trunk with which the work is carried out is 30 cm. When the length of the tire reaches 65 cm, then you can cut options up to 60 cm in diameter.

The second type of cellulose hook has more short story in Atlantic Canada. Used more often in Scandinavia than here, it was designed for rolling rather than lifting wood. Unlike the previous larger hook, this one has a handle and hook in the same plane. As a result, any piece of wood over 15 cm in diameter will fall off the hook when picked up. This hook is designed for wood roll and it comes with a holster to be worn on your belt.

This new hook is very good when used with modern forestry systems. However, to know its true benefits, you must dedicate yourself to learning how to use it. If you ignore early disappointments, you will discover another valuable tool for yourself.

For the most massive wood species, complex and very powerful chainsaws (see the most) are used, having an excess of standard weight. The length of the tire in them is higher than 65 cm.

The sawing technology also changes along with the thickness of the target. With one cut, you can guaranteed to fell trees up to 20 cm in diameter. If this indicator exceeds this threshold, several cuts must be made in order to cut down the tree without damage to the device and strong efforts on the part of the workers.

Here are some tips for using the smaller cellulose hook. With the influence of Swedish forestry practices in the province, several forest workers now use two hooks instead of pulp hooks. This approach requires improved technique and meticulous practice. The lift is more efficient because the weight is more evenly distributed across the shoulders than when used with one hand with forceps. The hooks are held on opposite sides of the pulp stick and at a slight angle as shown.

To reduce the chance of injury, try it with caution first or get a demo. Strengthening these tools, especially the hook, is of the utmost importance. Without proper sharpening, they will be next to useless. New tools are rarely sharp when sold, so follow this sharpening guide.

The greater the height of the tree, the more problematic it becomes to comply with safety regulations.. Sawing also becomes more difficult, since more weight requires some effort and high power of the device. Sometimes you have to make cuts in a group, keeping a distance according to the level, that is, making them on different height.

For a pulp hook, store the inside of the point so that it securely fixes the wood. The inside of the dot should be parallel to the front of the handle. Bevel the outer edges of the point to create sharpness. The dot shape ensures that the hook always bites into the wood.

To check if the point is sharpened correctly, pull the hook through the flat wooden surface both hands. The point should always bite into the wood. To support correct form points, sharpen by feeding the beveled edges of the otter. Forceps are sharpened in the same way.

The center of gravity must be measured in advance to determine the fall of the tree. This indicator is influenced by the shape of the crown, as well as the features of the trunk itself. These criteria have an impact not only on the position of workers, but also on the intended places for cuts, which are optimal. Usually the trunk needs to be cut completely and at the root, however, sometimes a certain part of it is required, which also affects the sawing process.

Personal safety equipment as described in the Chainsaw Safety Guide and illustrated. Fuel and oil containers that are properly designed for this purpose. Do not use glass or soft plastics and wedges and driven tools have at least two wedges. It is best to use high density plastic or soft metal. They are comfortable to roll small trees or rolling and storing logs to assist with cross cutting. Cutting lever. This is useful for small trees and one with a hook can be used as a hook. You may prefer to cut the axe. It is also useful for splitting large blocks of firewood. Know your limits. Cutting down trees on steep slopes or unstable ground. Work on trees cut down on power lines, buildings, or public paths. Driving trees one on another. Back pulling trees. Cutting down dead trees. Make sure that no person with you, unless they are the instructor or assistant, is within two tree lengths of the tree to be felled. Check for hazards in areas such as electricity or telecommunications lines. If in doubt, please consult your local regulatory authority. If any road, railroad, or public access path is within two tree lengths of your work area, contact your regulatory authority to find out what precautions they require to prevent harm to other people and property. Check for buildings, equipment, fences, or overhead mesh pipes within two tree lengths of the tree's fall direction. With a review of the precautions completed and taken as necessary, you are now ready to look at separate tree that needs to be cut down. If possible, plan on dropping the tree so that it clears any obstructions and hits a clear open area. Check for dead or damaged branches or any debris that may have been knocked out and entered the work area as the tree fell. It is especially common in older shelter belt trees and causes many serious accidents every year. They can come off when the tree falls and falls in workspace, pulling the tree out of the desired fall direction, or causing other trees to uproot and fall. Pay attention to any vines that may affect the direction of the fall. Look for any rot around the base of the tree where the cuts should be made. This may affect the direction of the fall. the scarcity of the tree, the location of the heaviest branches and the total weight of the crown, you will be able to choose the direction of the fall. Wind can influence the direction of fall and must be considered along with other points. Do not fall trees in strong winds or bad weather. If wedges or other punching aids are needed, have them ready.

Controls the direction of fall, allowing the tree to fall freely in the chosen direction. minimizes splitting or cutting. Acts as a pivot and controls the direction the tree falls, prevents the tree from twisting or breaking when it falls, preventing the tree from falling backwards if the back cut closes. Watch for the tree to lean back or bounce as it hits the ground.

  • Remove saw from cutout and switch off.
  • Go to the planned evacuation route.
  • Watch out for falling material.
A back cut at the same level as the scarf can cause the tree to disengage from the stump.

Step-by-step instruction

The technology for cutting down trees of large and small diameters has several differences. First you need to learn how to cut down small plants:

  1. Step 1. We are looking for the slope of the tree. Even slight gravity is suitable, but the stronger this feature is expressed, the more clearly you can notice the exact side of the fall of the plant.

It is advisable to cut straight trees in convenient places for stalling, and not at random. One incision is about half of full size trunk.

Cutting is allowed to be left without holding the tree or the hinge. The tree will fall out of control. A back cut at the same level as the scarf can cause the tree to kick off the stump. An inverted cut may result in the wrong direction of fall and damage to the bar.

Remember that if the tree has a large side or leans heavily back, these methods will not be successful and may even be dangerous. Get an experienced person or professional to handle this type of wood. A different cutting method may be required.

  2. Step 2. The same incision is made on the reverse side at the same level. It is necessary to wait for the moment when the plant begins to bend down significantly, that is, a fall will be noticeable. First, the tree should be felled with a cut at the level of the shoulder of an adult, and then separately, that is, with a minimum risk to safety, ennoble the rest of the array and save only a small stump.
  3. Step 3 Cutting a tree into its component parts can be carried out starting from the branches, which are the furthest away. Small branches can be easily cut in one go, and thicker branches can be cut in two steps, so as not to spoil the chainsaw. The saw chain (see) at the same time cannot touch the ground, as this will lead to its rapid blunting.

A large tree is considered to be a tree that exceeds half a meter in diameter. At first, the trunk is used as a support, however, sawing the structure can only be done after choosing at what angle the plant will fall. Action algorithm:

Some Risk Factors and Difficulties

Remove the bark from the wedge position to expose hardwood and the wedge is immediately effective. Bring the wedge home as it cuts down the cut to get the most help from the wedge arm. Do not attempt to drive the plastic wedge into a closed incision, as splitting or breaking the wedge could result in facial injury.

Start the back cut on the slope side of the tree, leaving a slightly narrower hinge tree than usual. Continue the reverse cut on the other side, allowing the wider hinge to be used and the wedge to be inserted into the cut. The tree must fall in the right direction. Once there is sufficient solid wood, insert a wedge or wedges into the cut and drive as the cut progresses. Make one side of the back cut in the usual way and set the wedge in this cut against the scarf and according to the desired fall direction. Make sure both back slits overlap slightly, but make sure they are still the correct distance above the cut scarves. Be aware that the tree may slide backward or lift into the work area when it hits the ground. Don't turn your back, keep an eye on the progress and progress of the tree you've cut down. Move back along the escape route from the falling tree. Make the scarf a little deeper, but no more than half the diameter. Place the wedge at the rear as soon as practicable to ensure the correct fall direction as there is no crown to help tip the tree over. on the ground. These are two types, called "carved" and "hanging" trees. If a machine is present, it can help push the tree in the right direction. Otherwise, wedges can be inserted into the back incision and brought home until a tree will fall. If the back is too tight for the wedges to be inserted, you can re-apply the scarf and the back cut the tree in reverse. Make a second batch of cuts by cutting off the diameter of the tree above the first, as this will reduce the chance of splitting. Get the wedges in before there's a chance the tree will lean back and keep them moving when cut down. If there are trees that are adjacent to the felled trees, give them a quick check, there may be broken branches or suspended materials that could get into the work area. Make sure the tree is stable and won't roll or move when you start working on it. If you have the equipment, trees lying in difficult or dangerous positions should be pulled into a safe and stable position before pruning or cross-cutting begins. Pruning should be done while walking along the tree, provided the tree is stable and debris or scrub is not an obstacle. If pruning is to be done from the top of the log, the distance to the ground should be no more than 5 meters. This cutting method can cause back strain and lead to falls and trips. Trees that are actually on the ground can be pruned with relative safety. Beware of a tree suspended by its branches, as one large branch can hold the tree up. Cutting this branch can cause the tree to roll on top of you. When the tree is held off the ground, trim large branches from the outside by making a couple of cuts to test for stability.

Pruning a tree held off the ground

Use enough bar when trimming to reduce the chance of contact with the nose or stem and get some kickback. Stand on your side from the tension and release the tension with two cuts, first on your side and then on the other side. Examine the wood and determine if any part can roll, drop or wobble when the cut is complete. Magazine control can also be lost when magazines are curled or rolled. Unless it's clear that by holding a tree on a slope, you must assume that it can move at any time. Make sure other people are not endangered if the cut log rolls down the slope. Never attempt to cross a tree or log that is in a dangerous state or if the cut cannot be completed. It may be possible to make an incision in a less desirable position that could eliminate the danger. When going across, get a firm footing and avoid standing on loose material. Clear enough area to work and an escape route if danger arises. Look for any imperfections such as rot or large branches that may be affecting your intersection. Make sure that carrying the saw does not bring the chain into contact with the ground or objects that could damage it. Basically the tree will not lie in the ideal position for crosscutting, and the following points will help you crisscross unmistakably. The most common situations are tension, compression and pressure.

Let's go - cut down trees properly

  • Make the scarf face the desired direction of fall.
  • Insert the wedge into the cut.
  • Drive the wedge home when the cut is complete.
  • Cut the scarf as usual in the desired direction of fall.
  • The back is normal.
  • Make the scarf a little smaller than usual in the usual way.
  • Make the final part of the back by tilting it to avoid a wedge.
  • Keep the wedge under pressure as the final cut is made.
  • Use another wedge if necessary.
  • Move quickly along the escape route to keep your distance from the stump area.
  • Cut down the trees on the slope.
  • Make sure you are not in the path of the rolling tree.
  • Place cushions if you think movement is possible, especially on slopes.
  • Always end the cut at the top of the log.
  • Always work on the uphill side of a tree on a slope.
  • Watch out for limbs that are under tension.
  • They can back out and cause serious injury.
  • Don-t-logs that are suspended at a height of more than 5 meters above the ground.
  • Crossing over this height means the saw is being used above shoulder height.
  • Never stand up and cut trees that have a root plate.
It doesn't matter if you just want to cut down a tree that has grown too big in the garden, or if you want to head into the woods.
  1. Step 1. A cut is made from top to bottom with a slope of 60 degrees. It must be done exactly from the side of the intended slope. It is necessary to constantly observe the exact angle and keep the chainsaw absolutely level.
  2. Step 2. A horizontal line is drawn at the bottom, which should adjoin the extreme inner point of the first cut. When it is carried out to the stop, you can remove the corner, consisting of wood, which allows you to make a side cut.
  3. Step 3. On the opposite side of the first two cuts, a horizontal filing is made, which begins slightly above the lower level of the cuts on the opposite side. It is necessary to cut quite deeply, but it is forbidden to perform the operation completely, that is, the tree must remain in an upright position.
  4. Step 4. In the second file, you need to mount a pre-prepared wedge or a special blade for felling the forest. The remaining volume can be removed with a spatula or when finishing from the inside.

Exist alternative way safe felling of trees. First, the solid wood is completely sawn through.

Then the device moves in the opposite direction with a slope to the left and reaches the middle. Insert a wedge under the second incision. The tree is finished from the opposite side.

Sawing branches and trunk

Branches need to be detached from the bottom of the tree, which is already lying on a flat surface. You should alternately finish the rows of branches, getting to the central ones, in order to gradually completely clear the trunk. All elements must be removed separately, it is advisable to transfer the sawn parts to a certain container during the work.

Cutting branches from a horizontally lying log

To cut the trunk, the following steps must be taken:

  1. From above, the trunk is cut approximately in half.
  2. The saw turns off (see why), but remains in the tree. At this time, a wedge is driven into the hole obtained at the first stage, which must be qualitatively tamped with a hatchet. This is necessary so that the saw is not twisted by the weight of the two trunks, but is between them in a free position.
  3. The trunk is finished to the end point.

Sometimes the chainsaw tire remains in the trunk, especially for not only massive, but also hard woods. In this case, pulling it out is pointless. You need to quickly turn off the motor, and then you should act on both sides of the barrel from the cut from below, trying to simultaneously pull out the device. For this action, you will need the help of a partner.

Safety

When performing the tree felling procedure, it is necessary to ensure full safety measures for both individuals and employees of organizations. Do not fell trees on your own. Must have a partner. Open flames should not be lit during operation, and if there is one, it must be extinguished before turning on the chainsaw. Also you can't smoke. You should take care in advance to protect your face from sawdust, as they always fly off when sawing wood.

Before cutting wood you need to make sure that when it falls, it will not affect people, living beings, will not damage the cables or wires through which the current passes. Do not work in strong winds. It is advisable to calculate in advance the direction of the fall of the trunk up to the exact contour on which all the bars and other elements are cleared so as not to damage the tree, and also not to cause its inertial coup.

When working with full-fledged, thick pillars, the chainsaw is held with both hands, while tension is constantly felt.

You should not work when using only the extreme part of the saw, as this will lead to strong kickback and automatic shutdown of the device, which can ruin all the work by making inaccurate movements.

When sawing thick poles or massive branches, it is advisable to raise the chainsaw to a level above the shoulders.

The main aspects to be observed when sawing trees:

  1. If the trees are dry, then no sources of not only sparks, but also smoke should be allowed, since the addition of gasoline to a dry tree can cause a fire, which not only slows down the work process, but also harms the environment.
  2. Before turning on the chainsaw, you need to look around. No children or animals should be near. Only co-workers or bosses.
  3. You should try to always hold the chainsaw. Even in the event of a malfunction and automatic shutdown be careful, as dropping the device with a sharp part can lead to sad consequences.
  4. Workers prepare in advance for sawing wood. Tight clothing and a face mask are worn to cover the entire body from possible ingress of dust and dirt.

To get rid of the continuous sound of a chainsaw, it is necessary to use soundproof headphones, otherwise headaches are possible during long and regular work.

  5. The tree trunk for the worker should act as a kind of shield, therefore, for sawing it, the opposite side of the plant is first marked.

First, all are defined technological features , only then you need to clearly plan the stages of work, which will help to ensure that you protect yourself from the impact of the weight of a falling tree. Even with extensive work experience, it is necessary to constantly take care of your own safety, since the highest number of injuries are received by workers who have been in this field for a long time, accustomed to a constantly tense and dangerous environment.

Conclusion

To quickly cut down a tree, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work in advance, ensure safety, only then proceed to the event. It is enough to independently apply the positions that the tree sawing scheme provides for, so that the success of the event is guaranteed.

Great importance is given to security technology. In order to perform it correctly, you need to prepare in advance, as well as be attentive to work throughout the entire time of interaction with wood.

Autumn for gardeners is not only the time for harvesting, but also the time for cleaning the site from excess branches, twigs and trees that have served their time. Trees, as you know, come in different heights and widths.

The chainsaw is a faithful assistant to the farmer! Therefore, today we will talk about how to properly cut down trees using chainsaws. Consider the technique and safety rules for felling and sawing large and small trees with a chainsaw.

  • Technique for felling and sawing wood

So, let's figure out how to cut down a tree with a chainsaw?

    Preparatory work

Before starting work with a tree, it is necessary to evaluate all working factors:

    1. The tree stands straight, or tilted;
    2. We determine in which direction the tree should be felled;
    3. We clear the working space (remove unnecessary items, cut down protruding processes, knots, bushes, etc.);
    4. We prepare the tree itself: we remove root nodules, branches and knots that are below shoulder level.

Tip: To properly fell a tree, you need to pick up an ax and place it parallel to the tree at arm's length. Now move in this position towards the stall until the tree visually becomes the size of your ax. Now you are standing in the place where the top will lie. If there are no obstacles on your way, then the choice of the side of the stall is correct. And, if there were obstacles, try to eliminate them, or choose a different angle of incidence.

How to cut down trees with a chainsaw

It must be said that the technique of felling large and small trees is somewhat different.

In principle, this instruction is standard for all situations. Looking at this picture, you can easily cut down any tree, but there are always nuances, which we will discuss below.

Since things are a little simpler with small trees, we will start with them.

Now, with regard to sawing a sawn tree, there are also nuances here. 1 - it is not correct to cut the trunk from above, it will simply clamp the saw; 2 - so we start sawing the sawn tree from below

Tip: Avoid touching the ground with the saw chain, as this will dull it too quickly.

Now, let's talk about large trees, with a diameter of 50 cm or more.

The trunk of a large tree should serve as your support. After choosing the direction of fall, let's start cutting:

There is another way: saw through the tree through, then move the chainsaw in the opposite direction from the log house to the left to the middle. Then, there will be an underdrink on the side. Then insert a wedge at the end of the second cut and finish the tree from the back.

    Sawing branches and trunk

    sawing branches

We begin to cut the branches from the bottom of the lying tree. First we make an incision at the bottom, then we finish the top. Large branches should not be cut at the very base, but a little further. And then, remove the knot separately.

    sawing the trunk

The trunk must be cut as follows:

    1. we make a chainsaw cut half of the trunk from above;
    2. without removing the saws, insert the wedge and drive it in well with a hatchet (this way you will avoid clamping the saw between the halves of the trunk);
    3. finish up to the end.

If the chainsaw tire is still stuck in the barrel, do not try to pull it out. Stop the motor and press down on the barrel on both sides of the cut from below until the saw comes out.

    About safety rules

Both an experienced farmer and, especially, a beginner need to know the rules for safe work when cutting down trees.

Let's outline the main points of safe felling and sawing a tree:

    1. When working in the garden (forest), and even with a saw on gasoline, smoking is strictly unacceptable. Dry trees + gasoline can save you from the need to cut anything, because there will be nothing to cut - only a pile of ashes!
    2. Before work, make sure that no one and nothing will interfere with you. Here, as in a war - women, children and animals should not be!
    3. Hold the tool firmly with both hands. If you drop a chainsaw, you can be left not only without a tree, but also without limbs!
    4. Do not cut wood with the edge of the saw vertically, a “kickback effect” may work and the tool will be thrown right at you.
    5. Put on work gloves and clothing, protect your face from chips and dust. To make it easier to work, put on special soundproof headphones, otherwise the buzzing of a chainsaw will be remembered for a long time.
    6. Use the tree trunk as a shield and start sawing from the back.
    7. study well technical points and make a plan for yourself. Don't be overconfident, even if you have a lot of experience. After all, according to statistics, it is experienced lumberjacks who are most often injured.
  • Reading time ≈ 3 minutes

The vast majority of owners of private houses and cottages are familiar with the situation when yesterday’s young small tree, unnoticed by the owner’s eyes, grows sharply to a decent size, shading the entire plot or threatening to damage nearby buildings when it falls during windy weather. In this case, there is only one solution to the problem - such a tree will definitely have to be cut down.

    Instruments

Starting to cut a tall tree, you need to have tools such as:

    • chainsaw;
    • a long staircase;
    • rope;
    • shovel;
    • axe;
    • large root clippers;
    • hacksaw or chainsaw.

    Step-by-step instruction

In order to safely carry out the felling of a tree, you will need several helpers (depending on the girth of the trunk and the height of the tree).

    1. Initially, you will need to decide on the direction in which you can freely put a tree trunk on the ground without damaging buildings and plantings. Usually a tree falls in the direction where it is leaning or where there are more branches.

    2. Using a chainsaw, you need to cut the maximum number of side branches. In the absence of such a tool, you can use a conventional hacksaw for wood. This option will require the performer to climb the ladder attached to the tree to the maximum possible height and, using a hacksaw, cut down the branches within reach. In the event that this process, for some reason, is performed on their own problematic, you can invite a professional to trim branches.

    3. After trimming the branches, it is necessary to fasten a long, strong rope as high as possible, tying it around the trunk. The length of the rope must be sufficient so that the performers who have to pull the trunk by it are out of the zone of a possible fall of the tree. If the trunk is very high, then at the height of human growth, you can first cut down part of it, leaving a high stump.

    4. In order for the sawn tree to fall in the right direction, you must first make an undercut of the trunk by half the thickness on the opposite side, in which it is planned to put it.

    5. For thick trees, one more cut is made from the direction of its fall, 5-10 cm above the opposite cut. When all the cuts are ready, it is necessary to pull the tree in the direction of fall with a rope.

    6. After the fall of the upper part of the trunk, you will need to dig up the roots of the remaining part of the stump, chopping them off from all sides.

    7. At the top of the trunk stump, tighten the rope. Then, one should pull the trunk with force, uprooting the tree stump from the ground along with the roots.

Thus, guided by the photo and video of the process on the site, you can safely solve the problem of removing any large tree.

In order to cut down a tree that has grown on a plot near a private house, no permits are needed. It is a different matter if it is outside private property and belongs to green spaces common use. In this case, if a tree threatens to fall on your site due to old age or illness, you must contact the appropriate local government. The cutting of such trees is carried out by a specialized organization at the request of citizens. You can, of course, invite professionals to cut down a tree that belongs to you. But using the tips on how to fell trees and the photos on the site, each owner will be able to successfully complete a similar procedure without endangering anyone.

Gone are the days when felling trees was done with the Friendship saw or an axe. Now the question no longer arises: “How to fell a tree with an ax?” Now, as in all areas of our life, a more productive technique has come that does not require as much effort as before. Meet the chainsaw.

The chainsaw is a compact, powerful tool for sawing various materials with universal chain saws, gasoline or with an electrical connection. Depending on the material with which she will have to work, there are different types of saws and different capacities this tool. For home or rather country use, a household chainsaw is used, with a full range of special functions. It is the simplest and easiest to work with.

Even if there are no old trees on your backyard yet, it is still necessary to have a chainsaw on the farm for periodic cleaning of the garden, trimming and trimming branches. If there is a threat of a tree falling or a large dry branch is ready to fall, then here you already need to know some rules of work for safe operation electric petrol tool.

If you do not want to fell the tree yourself, please contact us, our specialists will carry out the procedure quickly and accurately.

How to fell a tree with a chainsaw correctly?

    Worth starting with preparatory work:

    1. Assess the condition of the tool (whether oil or gasoline needs to be added) to make sure it is in good condition and ready for use. Reading the user manual is also helpful.
    2. Evaluate the condition of the object to be removed, determine how the trunk stands and the side of its natural slope, in order to know where it will be easier to bring it down.
    3. Clear the space under and around the object (remove excess debris, sharp objects sticking out of the ground, hindering bushes, etc.)
    4. We are preparing the object itself for removal (removes roots sticking out of the ground, small branches and knots below the level of human growth).

There is one folk way how to find out the dimensions of the area under the roll. We take an old proven ax in our hand and put it on an outstretched hand parallel to the trunk. We begin to move back in the direction where we are going to dump. As soon as the size of the tree and the ax match, you have found the place where the top of your object fell. Make sure that there are no obstacles along your way and start the operation.

How to cut down a tree with a chainsaw:

    • We make the first cut from the side where your tree is supposed to fall (from the side of the natural slope). If the trunk stands straight, without tilt, then you can start dumping the tree in any convenient direction. The first cut is made on a third of the entire diameter of the trunk.
    • We pass to the opposite side and make the second cut until the trunk begins to fall under its own weight. The second cut must be made a few centimeters higher than the first, so that the saw does not clamp when the trunk starts to fall. Small trunks fall first at shoulder level. After the tip has fallen, it is safe to work the trunk to a stump or leave it to be uprooted. The higher the trunk remains, the easier it will be to uproot the stump (lever effect).
    • A fallen tree also needs to be sawn properly. To do this, we start work with distant branches. Small branches and knots are sawn absolutely without difficulty, but with large ones you will have to tinker, again, so that the saw is not pinched and stalled by wood. To do this, a large branch is first sawn from below, and then it is cut from above, according to the principle of felling the trunk.
    • When cutting branches from the trunk, try not to touch the ground with the saw chain. The earth can dull the saw and you will need to change it more often.

If you fell a small tree on suburban area is not difficult, then how to dump a big tree not everyone knows a chainsaw (diameter from 30 to 50 cm), here you need to tinker a little. Technically, the stalling process looks the same, but there are some points to consider:

    • The first cut is made at an angle of 60 - 70 degrees from the side where it would be better to dump the tree. From this side, the trunk is sawn to one third of its diameter. The first cut is made about 30 - 40 cm down, then the second, horizontal cut is sawn from below, which should converge with the first. It turns out a triangular side frame.
    • The second cut is made horizontally (parallel to the ground) on the reverse side and again slightly higher than the first, so as not to jam the saw. The main thing is not to finish a little before the first cut.
    • Now a wedge or a felling blade is very useful to us, it is they who help to dump large trees. We insert the wedge into the second cut, and cut it with a saw to the side frame. You can use a felling shovel, but with this method you will have to apply great physical effort.

How to fell a tree in an urban environment?

    • How to fell an emergency tree: A tree not harvested in time brings a lot of trouble ordinary people and city authorities. Therefore, if there is the slightest suspicion of danger, you should inform the relevant local authorities (housing and communal services) or deal with the problem yourself. To do this, you just need to contact the organization for sawing off unnecessary green spaces, as this is a very dangerous process that requires vocational training all participants and the involvement of special equipment. Each specific case of removing an emergency facility is purely individual and felling a tree (the price depends on a combination of various factors) within the city may differ slightly in terms of risk from the same work on garden plot or when cutting a clearing. According to the venue of the event, experts choose the method by which it will be carried out: you can dump the object in parts or entirely.
    1. How to fell a tree in the right direction entirely- this method is applicable in any area where there is free space in order to lay the entire trunk on the ground. If such conditions are present within the city, then this method is also used there, especially since this is the most economical option of all. When there is little space for felling the trunk or it needs to be laid in the opposite direction from the natural inclination, such an additional option as a “guy” is used. The technology for carrying out these works is practically no different from a simple stall, with the exception of the use of special ropes or a cable that takes on the guy. Even before making the first cut on the trunk, the rope is tied close to the top and the second edge is attached to a winch, tractor or other traction force. After the sawing itself is over, the trunk is neatly placed in a place specially chosen for it. If you don't know how to fell a tree in the right direction, then using a quickdraw is the most reliable option. For traction, if there is no winch or equipment at hand, the strong hands of several assistants can be used. The main condition for this is the observance of all safety rules and clearing the retreat path for all participants in the process.
    2. How to cut down a tree in pieces - this is a common way to get rid of emergency objects in the city. In this method, a specialist climber climbs the trunk and cuts the wood in fragments, starting from the branches. They either freely fall to the ground when there is enough meta under the crown, or they are hung with a rope on the same tree or on a neighboring one, and then, with the help of an assistant, they are carefully placed on a prepared place. The last option of stalling in parts is the most accurate, but also the most expensive. It is used on crowded streets, highways, near power lines and other communications, in courtyards residential buildings and in other places where there is no room for other stalling methods.
    • How to cut down a dry tree damaged by diseases, fungi or mechanically? Dry wood can also be classified as dangerous green spaces that can cause various kinds of injuries or irreparable material damage to the property of citizens. Depending on its location and terrain, the way it will be dumped is also determined. As in the case of emergency facilities, a special permit is required for this kind of work. If you contact private organizations that specialize in such processes, then they will do all the accompanying documents, and the manager will be able to advise you on how much it costs to cut down a tree in a city or on a personal plot. To do this, you must first inspect the object of deletion and draw up a cost estimate, where the deletion method will be mandatory, possible risks at work, the time of the process and other information.

"Treemaker" will gladly perform all of the above work, saving you from having to draw up documents yourself. You can get advice right now by calling us by phone or taking the opportunity to call a specialist to inspect the territory. Engaging our specialists is an excellent choice for solving problems in difficult situations with increased risk.

"Treemaker" will buy firewood from you of any species of trees and take it out of your site, so you do not have to do anything yourself. For a fee, we dispose of the waste after we felled the tree, even if we did not carry out the removal of unnecessary objects.

how to fell a tree video

Dry trees appeared in the dacha, and the farm has a chainsaw. The question immediately arises: how to cut down a tree with a chainsaw.

Cutting down a tree is easiest to do with a chainsaw, as it does not require much physical effort.

A chainsaw is a great tool and can easily handle any trunk. Yes, that's just the tree has grown big and tall. In order to solve the problem of how to properly cut it with a chainsaw and not get hurt, you should consider some of the nuances of this rather dangerous event.

    Felling features

In order to understand how to properly fell a forest with a chainsaw, you should consider the factors that affect the felling process. Two aspects of the problem should be noted here: the technical side and the security issue.

The technical side of the issue depends on a number of parameters. Primarily, different breeds trees have different wood structure and different density. The denser the wood, the slower the sawing process.

The fundamental factor is the diameter (thickness) of the tree. Depending on this parameter, it is necessary to select the power of the chainsaw. Light saws (bar length up to 35 cm) are used to fell trees with a diameter of no more than 30 cm. Medium saws (bar length 35-65 cm) can be used when it is necessary to cut down a specimen with a diameter of up to 60 cm. size, a heavy saw should be used (bar length over 65 cm). In addition, the sawing technology itself depends on the thickness of the trunk. Instances up to 20 cm in diameter can be felled with one cut, while larger diameter trees require two or more different cuts.

The height of the tree, in addition to safety issues, affects the cutting technology, as it determines the weight. It may be necessary to make several cuts at different heights from the ground. The type of crown and the shape of the trunk largely determine the direction of fall due to a change in the center of gravity. All this affects the choice of location and direction of cuts. Finally, the sawing technology depends on whether you need to cut the trunk at the root or saw off part of it, that is, at what height the sawing is performed.

    Felling safety

The fall of a tree during sawing must be carefully calculated so that the work does not lead to injury.

The question of how to do it right cannot be solved without ensuring the safety of workers. First of all, it is strictly forbidden to bring down a chainsaw alone. There should always be a partner. Due to the flammability of sawdust and gasoline in the tool, the use of open flames and smoking is prohibited. The face and body must be protected from chips and sawdust.

Measures must be taken to ensure that the sawn tree does not fall on the worker, other people or electrical lines. Do not work in strong winds. The direction of the fall of the trunk must be carefully calculated and cleared of obstacles (branches of other trees, etc.).

In order to bring down, the chainsaw must be held with both hands. Do not work with the edge of the saw because of the risk of kickback. The risk of tool kickback must be taken into account during the entire sawing process. When sawing wood or cutting branches, the chainsaw should not be located above shoulder level.

    Back to index

    Preparatory activities

When operating a chainsaw, gloves must be worn.

It is possible to correctly and safely only after carrying out certain preparatory work. First of all, it is necessary to clear a place for work, as well as a path for a possible retreat from a falling tree. So, the free space on the working side should be: with a trunk diameter of up to 20 cm - at least 80 cm; with a diameter of up to 30 cm - not less than 1.2 m; with a diameter of up to 50 cm - at least 2 m. The working area is determined after calculating the direction of fall.

The preparation of the tree itself consists in cutting branches and knots from the trunk, which are located below the head of the worker. The fall direction is cleared.

Before starting work, determine the readiness of the chainsaw. The condition of the cutting elements and the chain tension are assessed. Gasoline filling and oil level are checked.

    Back to index

    Felling small trees

Trees up to 20 cm in diameter are classified as small and can fall with one cut. The technology for cutting such specimens is as follows. From the side of the slope of the trunk, a transverse incision is made with a chainsaw. The length of the notch is about half the thickness of the trunk. Then the trunk is cut from the other side at the same level, until the tree moves. A little effort is applied, and the tree collapses in the right direction. Such cuts are first made at the level of the person's shoulders. Then, with one cut, the rest of the trunk is cut off at the level of the root (soil).

After cutting down the trunk, you should immediately cut down the branches on it. Their cutting begins with distant branches. Small branches and knots are removed with one movement of the saw. Thicker branches are first sawn from the top side, and finally cut off from the bottom. This should be done to prevent the saw chain from wedging.

    Felling thick trunks

The question is how to cut down a tree large diameter, is solved by several characteristic cuts. First, at a height convenient for work, a tree cut line is outlined. Then, a cut is made at an angle of 45º to this virtual line from above. This cut is made from the side of the slope of the trunk, that is, from the side of the fall of the tree after sawing. At the level of the intended cut line, a horizontal cut is made (on the same side as the beveled cut) until it joins the beveled cut inside the trunk. The depth of cut should be a quarter of the diameter of the trunk at the sawing site. The distance between the horizontal cut and the beginning of the oblique cut along the surface of the trunk in the longitudinal direction is 20-40 cm. When sawing, one should strive to observe the recommended sawing angles and direction. After extracting the cut piece of the trunk, the cut will look like a log house with an ax.

The next horizontal cut is made from the opposite side of the tree at a height 2-3 cm higher than the height before the first horizontal cut. The cut is made so that its depth by about 10% does not reach the already made cut on the other side. At the end of sawing, a crack or slight movement of the wood may occur. In this case, you must quickly remove the chainsaw from the cut. A wedge or a special felling blade is inserted into this cut. By pressing with your hands or with the help of a wedge, the trunk is rolled.

If you need to cut a trunk with a diameter of up to 50 cm, you should use an additional cut.

Before making the second horizontal cut, another oblique cut is made, then they are connected. This technology eliminates the risk of chainsaw cutting element sticking.

Then the cutting of branches and branches is carried out. The trunk is cut into pieces. It is recommended to saw the trunk by lifting it above the ground in a horizontal position. You can use goats for this.

Additional guidelines can be followed to ensure proper felling of trees. You should not make significant efforts on the chainsaw: with normal chain sharpening, the sawing speed is practically independent of effort. The upper large branches cannot be sawn from below: at the bottom, only a cut is made to no more than half the diameter of the branch in order to avoid jamming of the saw. When sawing, it is not recommended that the direction of movement of the saw chain falls on the body of the worker. It should always be slightly out of the way.
