A complete review of a smart kettle from Xiaomi! The Xiaomi Mi Electric Kettle is able to change the lives of all people for the better video is always faster.

The Xiaomi Smart Kettle is a functional device and an excellent addition to the smart-home system. Its use allows you to independently determine the desired water temperature, while the possibility of maintaining it for 12 hours is implemented. Also, the user can set the time to turn on the device and carry out remote control.

In order to take full advantage of Xiaomi's smart kettle, you need to integrate it into the system and set up a connection to your smartphone. We will tell you how to do this correctly using the example of Xiaomi Kettle, which is one of the most popular and functional water heaters of the company.

How to connect a Xiaomi kettle

For the device to work, you need to download the Mi Home application, which is designed to manage all the components included in the smart home. It is available free of charge in the Play Market and installs without any problems. Synchronization with a smartphone is organized using Bluetooth technology, so after installing the program on the phone, we activate Bluetooth.
Next, to connect the Xiaomi kettle to the phone, perform the following steps:

If everything is done correctly, then a circle will appear on the smartphone display, where the connection process will be displayed as a percentage.

If at some stage a failure occurs and a pop-up question appears, then it must be answered in the affirmative and then the process will promptly end.

How to control the Xiaomi Mi Smart electric kettle

After adding the Xiaomi teapot to the application, the user has ample opportunities to manage it. All basic information is available on the main screen, the background of which changes depending on the temperature changes in the water (from blue to red).

The display contains the following information:

  • The upper part displays the current water temperature;
  • A slider is located a little lower, when moving it, you can set the time to maintain the temperature of the liquid by certain value. The interval varies from one to 12 hours;
  • Under the slider, you can directly select temperature parameters. By default, values of 90, 80 and 50 degrees are available, however, by clicking on the Custom icon, the user can independently set the desired indicator (the change step is five degrees).

When you open an additional menu (More button), you can access other temperature scenarios. One of them involves first bringing the water to a boil, then the device waits for it to cool and only then begins to maintain the set value. When using the second mode, the liquid will be heated to the set parameters with their subsequent maintenance.

The first option is preferable to use when raw water is poured into the apparatus, and the second is already suitable for boiled water.

Using the Xiaomi kettle app is a handy tool that allows you to constantly monitor temperature values and, if necessary, remotely turn on / off the device.

Smartphones of the Chinese company Xiaomi are more famous than the products of the ecosystem " smart home". Although it has many interesting and useful gadgets. Today we have one of them on review - Xiaomi smart kettle Smart Kettle with Bluetooth control.

Characteristics:

  • Declared power: 1800 W;
  • Volume: 1.5 l;
  • Kettle weight: 1.24 kg;
  • Package weight: 1.73 kg;
  • Package dimensions (WxDxH): 25x16x26 cm;
  • Triple protection: eliminated current leakage, the risk of electric shock is minimized, automatic shutdown when the water level is insufficient;
  • Maintaining the required temperature up to 12 hours;
  • Temperature control via app;
  • The inner surface of the kettle, the lid and the temperature sensor are made of 304 stainless steel, thanks to which scale, plaque, foreign odors do not form, the surface is easy to clean.

Equipment

The teapot comes in an elegant white box, inside which you will find the teapot itself, a stand and instructions (on Chinese so it won't help you). To protect the device, foam inserts are provided in the box.

Design

As for the design of the teapot, it is minimalist, but at the same time quite cute. Xiaomi Smart Kettle is made of high-quality matte plastic, internal elements, as mentioned above, are made of stainless steel.

On the top of the handle is a mechanical button that allows you to open the kettle lid by 45 °. If you need to fully open the lid (up to 90°), you will have to do it manually.

The stand has a niche in which you can remove excess wire.

In general, the kettle is quite well made, and it seems that it will last a long time.

Smart features

First of all, you can use the device as a regular kettle by simply pressing the first touch button located on the bottom of the handle. Looking ahead, let's say that the second button is designed to maintain the temperature.

In order to use the "smart" functions of the kettle, you must first install the Mi Home application (if you do not already have it, since the application is used to control all Xiaomi smart home devices) and connect the device to it via Bluetooth.

Even though the app is in Chinese, we had no problems connecting our phone to the device. The teapot module itself is English-speaking.

The main "smart" feature is the ability to maintain the temperature at a given level for up to 12 hours. In the application, you can choose, for example, that you want to keep the water temperature at 80 degrees for 1 to 12 hours. To set the time, use the “Keep warm time” slider, then you need to set the temperature (minimum 40 °C, maximum - 90 °C).

The "Warm up the water" and "Cool down the boiled water" buttons are responsible for heating and cooling, respectively. In this case, in the second case, the “Do not boil again” switch is available (“do not boil again”).

As for the boiling time itself, one liter of water at a temperature of 20 ° C Xiaomi Smart Kettle brought to a boil in 4 minutes 2 seconds, and one and a half liters in 5 minutes 42 seconds.

Conclusion

Xiaomi Mi Kettle copes with all the declared functions, has good thermal insulation. In addition, we liked the design and build quality.

A fly in the ointment, as always, adds the Mi Home application in Chinese. We also believe that the device should have more smart features, such as the ability to turn the kettle on/off using your phone. In addition, in our opinion, a Wifi connection would be more suitable for remote control of the kettle.

In the end, it is up to you to decide whether it is worth buying a teapot with a nice design, quality workmanship and claimed smart features for 3300 rubles.

✔ PACKAGING AND COMPLETE SET

Parcel arrived courier service NovaPoshta. The customs opened the parcel, as evidenced by the bright red adhesive tape on the box.

Although the mail is new, and the employees are apparently old, the box was a little crushed along the way. The Xiaomi teapot box, in their current product trend, is white with a color image of the product.

At the top of the Mi and MiJia logo. You don’t have to worry too much about the safety of the kettle, there is foam protection on top and bottom of the kettle.

In the instructions, apart from the QR code, there is nothing useful, since it is completely in Chinese.

There is a stand in a separate niche. At first I thought that the crisis had reached the Xiaomi people, they attached such a short lace to it.

Everything turned out to be much simpler, and at the same time more thoughtful. The extra cable can simply be wound around the ring inside the stand.

There are three anti-slip feet on the stand, and the cable is tightly fixed in the rubberized groove of the stand.

But for the plug, either an adapter is needed, but it is more preferable to simply replace it with a regular European one on your own.

✔ APPEARANCE

The hero of the review is a smart teapot. It is impossible to choose a color at the time of purchase, the kettle is only available in white.

The body is made of smooth plastic. Mijia logo on the bottom.

At the top protrudes metal part water containers.

There is only one mechanical button, on the handle of the kettle, when pressed, the lid of the kettle opens.

At the bottom of the handle is the Bluetooth logo, since the kettle and smartphone are paired wirelessly - Bluetooth 4.0 BLE.

To turn on the kettle, and to turn on the keep-alive function desired temperature Inside the handle are two touch buttons.

When the kettle heats water, the LED under the first button lights up. When the constant heating mode is activated, the LED under the second button lights up.

At the bottom of the kettle there is a round contact pad, just like modern, not very smart counterparts.

The inside of the kettle is made of stainless steel. The spout is originally curved from a strip protruding above the body. This photo clearly shows that the body of the kettle and the inner metal part are not one piece, there is a two-layer insulation between them, thanks to which the kettle cools much more slowly, and the body practically does not heat up, which minimizes the risk of getting burned.

AISI 304 steel (The American Iron and Steel Institute) is an austenitic steel with a low carbon content. AISI 304 stainless steel is acid-resistant and withstands short-term temperature rises up to 900 degrees Celsius. © Wiki.
But the marking GB9684 is the marking of the standard of the Pohang Iron and Steel Company, which manufactured it.

The maximum capacity of the kettle is more than 1.5 liters, approximately 1.7-1.8, but I do not recommend pouring more than necessary, because when boiling, the water will splash out

At the bottom of the kettle is a temperature sensor from Strix.

The lid of the kettle is also double and practically does not heat up.

The diameter of the stand is 145mm and the thickness is 16mm.

I won’t call the cord long, but it comes out 70 centimeters from the stand case.

Teapot height 212 mm.

The diameter of the teapot is 143 mm at the bottom and 134 mm at the top.

Wall thickness 5.9 mm.

The kettle can work as a simple kettle, turn on with a button on the handle, or use the Mi Home app.
In standby mode - 0.2W.
If the kettle is turned on without water, then after 15-20 seconds the protection will work and the kettle will turn off, it is possible to turn it on later after the kettle has cooled down.

The power was declared as 1800 watts, but more than 1700 watts, according to the tester, it did not rise.

Bay put 1.5 liters of water decided to test the speed of boiling.

It took a little more than 5 minutes for the kettle to boil this volume of water.

When boiling, water does not splash, but I recommend closing the lid, I have no complaints.
Even after the kettle has boiled, you can safely pick it up not by the handle, but by the body, the heating is practically not felt.

For more precise control of the kettle, you will need to install the Mi Home application.
I recommend the Russified version -
In the application, you need to search and connect to the kettle.

After that, the application will automatically download the kettle control plugin. But the downside is that everything in it will be in Chinese. To change this misunderstanding, you will need Root access on the phone, and a Russified plugin, which can be downloaded in the topic from the link above. And then just replace the apk in the smartphone with a Russified one.

The main "desktop" of the application displays the current temperature of the liquid in the kettle, with the corresponding color background. Below you can set the interval for maintaining the set temperature from 1 to 12 hours. And choose the right temperature accordingly.

In the settings, you can grant access to manage other Mi accounts, check and update the kettle's firmware, rename it or untie it from your smartphone.

There is a function of advice, but they are relevant only for those who understand Chinese.

To save energy, the keep warm function can be disabled.

IN advanced settings There are two options for maintaining the temperature. In the first option, the kettle will bring the liquid to a boil, and then it will wait until it cools down and continue to maintain the selected temperature regime. In the second option, the kettle will simply heat the liquid to the selected temperature. The second option is convenient when the water in the kettle is already boiled or, say, the child needs to heat pasteurized milk to the desired temperature.

You can change the set temperature scenarios yourself.

Room temperature showed correctly - 22 degrees C.

All delicious and hot tea!

✔ VIDEO REVIEW

In addition to the stylish appearance, the smart kettle has a number of other advantages, such as double walls with several layers of insulating material inside, due to which the water in the kettle cools much more slowly than in the usual one. In addition, even if you grab a boiling kettle by the body, you can not be afraid of any thermal burns. Thanks to the application, it is possible to maintain the set temperature for up to 12 hours, thereby turning the kettle into a thermos, in which, with 100% certainty, there will always be hot water or milk. The disadvantages include difficulties with the Russification of the application, you need root, and an overpriced price.

The teapot is delivered in a thick cardboard box. white color. The teapot itself is painted on the box, the logos of Xiaomi and the new brand flaunt at the top MIJIA, under which all smart home products are produced.

Inside, everything is solid - the kettle and its components are securely fixed with the help of foam molds.

The package itself consists of:

· Kettle,

Two booklets-instructions (one of them in Russian and part-time is a warranty card),

· Supports.

You should immediately pay attention to the socket plug - it is an Australian type, with three plugs and inclined arrangement top pair. This problem is "treated" either self-replacement to a regular European plug, or an adapter.

Appearance and ergonomics

Pros of Mi Kettle

· Stylish design,

Quiet boil,

Fast boiling (1.5 liters in 5 minutes),

Barely warm body with boiling water inside,

Possibility to control remotely from a smartphone,

Possibility of heating up to a certain temperature,

Keep warm function

Two modes of maintaining the temperature,

Function automatic shutdown when there is no water in the kettle,

· Convenient cable that wraps around the base of the case.

Xiaomi kettle cons

· Remote control is limited by Bluetooth range.

· The need for an adapter or replacement of an Australian plug with a European one.

Nuances when connecting the kettle to a smartphone for the first time,

· Non-Russified utility,

No "alarm clock". It is a pity that the software does not yet allow you to specify the required time for boiling water. It would be great - you just woke up and wandered sleepily into the kitchen, and the kettle was already boiling!

· Lack of color choice.

The disadvantages are quite indirect and are more than offset by numerous advantages.

I have had extremely positive impressions of using this kitchen helper.

I am sure he will be in demand and will quickly be able to charm his owners.

The Xiaomi smart home ecosystem is much less known to us than smartphones produced by this company. However, not so long ago, a rice cooker visited us for testing, and here is another household appliance, kettle. Like the rice cooker, it is white, elegant, minimalistic and just so reminiscent of Apple products that it was impossible to find fault with it formally;)

Equipment

The box was also supposed to be white and elegant (according to the idea of Xiaomi designers), but parcels from China are apparently dropped from the plane right on the fly, so it has come to us not very elegant and in some places not quite white.

Inside the box are: kettle, stand and instructions. Thoughtful foam inserts allowed them to reach us unscathed - the packaging took the hit.

At first sight

As we said above, the design of the teapot from Xiaomi, pardon the oxymoron, is "as minimalist as possible." This makes an impression live - but, alas, leaves not so few words for a textual description of these very impressions.

The only non-white element is the pad for the teapot.

By the way, it is also black on the teapot itself. It can be assumed that the reason is very simple: Xiaomi is not engaged in the production of these parts, so in this case its designers were powerless :)

The stand is equipped with a niche in which you can remove excess wire.

The flask of the kettle is completely steel, respectively, the device does not have any water level sensor. The lid, when the button is pressed, first opens to about 45°, but then it can be manually opened up to 90°. The bottom of the lid, which is in direct contact with the flask, is also steel. There is no filter to retain scale.

Instruction

The original instructions included in the box can only help those few Russian speakers who also speak Chinese.

Everyone else can be advised to use one of the many "home-made" translations into Russian posted on the Internet. seemed to us quite acceptable in terms of workmanship.

Control

On the top of the handle is a mechanical button that opens the lid.

On the bottom of the same handle are two touch buttons. Google translator translated these inscriptions for us as “cook” (top left in the photo) and “isolation” (bottom right).

We coped with guessing the true purpose of the first button without special work- in the end, where to "cook", there and "boil". And indeed: if you press this button, the device will boil water and turn off.

With “isolation” it was more difficult ... but not much, because if there are only two buttons, and the purpose of one of them is known, then the purpose of the second is determined simply by the elimination method. So it turned out: this is the “maintain temperature” button. But where to set its value? Looks like it's time to learn software...

Smartphone control

First you need to install the MiHome utility. This is a common shell for managing all Xiaomi smart home devices.

The first time you launch MiHome, you will be asked to enter a location. Here we made a mistake the first time, but now backdating Wise: Wherever you really are, you should choose Mainland China. Otherwise, nothing will just work.

Next, you will be prompted to log in. You'll have to create a Xiaomi account (if you don't already have one) - there's no way without it. However, this is not a very complicated procedure - just click "Sign in", and on the next page select "sign up".

After logging into your account, you will be able to add a device using the "+" button in the upper right corner.

Before pressing the "Scan" button, make sure that the stand is plugged in, the kettle is on the stand and Bluetooth is enabled on the smartphone/tablet.

And here is our kettle (Devices nearby). We tap on the icon and MiHome first loads the kettle control module, and then launches it.

Initial binding. We guessed quite easily that the picture depicts one of the buttons on the teapot. It should be noted that it was also not difficult to recognize the hieroglyphs - on the other button they differ significantly. So the button is defined. What to do? The presence of the Arabic numeral 3 among the inscriptions in Chinese suggests that something needs to be done 3 times. There are two obvious options: press three times in a row or press and hold for 3 seconds. The second one was correct.

The connection process is not very long: as a rule, after about 10%, the numbers begin to “jump at a gallop” and the entire connection takes 5-6 seconds. But sometimes it also happens that it is not possible to implement it at all. Then we recommend that you click on the "restart Bluetooth and reconnect" button.

However, in our case, everything went well and we finally got into the kettle control menu. I am glad that the teapot module is at least English-speaking. There are worse situations in MiHome ...

In principle, everything is clear. At the top, on a blue background, the temperature of the water in the kettle is displayed in degrees Celsius with an accuracy of a degree (spoiler: the background color depends on the temperature).

Next comes the “Keep warm time” slider, which allows you to set the amount of time during which the kettle will maintain the set temperature after the corresponding command. Range: 1 hour to 12.

Then this same temperature is set. There are three presets and a slider for setting an arbitrary value. Minimum temperature- 40 °C, maximum - 90 °C, step - 10 °C. Presets can be changed to others (“More>”), but there are always exactly three of them.

The buttons "Cool down the boiled water" and "Warm up the water" are responsible for switching between two scenarios: "cool" or "heat" respectively. At the same time, in the “cool down” scenario, the “Do not boil again” switch is available.

Here, in fact, is the whole simple control panel. But how to start the process? Where is the start button? We searched for a long time. We, pardon the newspeak, tapped the entire screen. And after all these hopeless searches, the terrible truth came to us: buttons - on the teapot.

The unearthly logic of this decision still wanders like a foreign body through the convolutions of our brain, but we could not find another answer to the question “where are the buttons?”.

If you press the “boil” button, the program cheerfully reports that heating has begun, animating blue water with an image of pop-up bubbles.

“Water”, as we have already spoiled above, starting from a certain temperature, begins to change color.

The application, however, sometimes switches to Chinese in unpredictable places.

That, in fact, is all. The temperature and the duration of its maintenance can be set on a smartphone, after which one of the buttons on the kettle boils water, and the other one gives the command to maintain the set temperature for the set time.

Well, at any time - open the corresponding applet in MiHome (if the kettle is in the range of your Bluetooth) and see what temperature the water in the kettle has in this moment time.

Usage

Training

Regarding the preparation of the device for operation, the version of the translation that we came across is generally silent. Therefore, we did what we always do: a couple of times we poured water into a new kettle and poured it out (without boiling or even heating).

Practice

During operation, the kettle functioned as expected, but creating special problems. Sometimes the connection with the smartphone was lost, but when the corresponding button was pressed in MiHome, it was restored.

It is convenient to pour the kettle, you just need to remember to “re-open” the lid manually, because the button opens it only halfway.

The handle is grippy, it is convenient to hold the kettle, and its weight is small - after all, the capacity is only 1.5 liters.

Care

The instruction (our version of an unofficial translation) advises to clean the scale in this way: pour 0.5 liters of food vinegar into the kettle, hold it there for 1 hour, pour it out, wipe the kettle from the inside, pour water, boil, pour out the water. Then just pour and pour the kettle 4-5 times. Well, it's also a way...

Testing

The useful volume of the kettle (fill water up to the Max mark on the body, pour into a volumetric flask) was 1500 ml, that is, exactly as much as indicated in the passport.

A full kettle (1.5 l) of water at a temperature of 20 ° C is brought to a boil in 5 minutes 42 seconds, 0.152 kWh of electricity is spent on this. The maximum measured power consumption at a voltage of 220 V was 1665 watts.

The reference portion of water (1 liter at a temperature of 20 °C) was brought to a boil by the kettle in 4 minutes 2 seconds, spending 0.11 kWh of electricity on it.

The power consumption of the instrument when it is on but not in operation is 0.0 W.

Of course, that doesn't happen. However, our wattmeter showed exactly this value, so we can only state that the power consumption of this kettle at rest is so small that our device could not measure it.

The temperature of the external surface of the case 10 minutes after boiling was 38 °C (at a room temperature of about 22 °C). This allows us to assume that the heat-saving properties of Xiaomi Kettle are quite high.

The actual temperature of the water after heating to the set value, according to the culinary thermometer, was:

The temperature of the water in the kettle after boiling was:

  • after 1 hour - 78 °C
  • after 2 hours - 64 °C
  • after 3 hours - 55 °C

This, of course, is not Caso VakO², but it is also quite decent.

Water from the device with the lid closed completely pours out in 15 seconds.

conclusions

Lyrical digression. Once, when my friends and I were relaxing in Abkhazia, one local apatsha (cafe) seduced us with the promise of “divine local mullet cooked on coals.” Not everyone was a fan of fish, but one young lady ordered this particular dish. When they brought it, we asked her in unison: “Well, how?” After trying and thinking for a while, she replied: "You know ... in general - nothing divine."

In the context of the mentioned history, this definition most accurately fits as short description our impressions of the Xiaomi kettle. He is handsome (subjective impression). It copes with all the declared functions. It has pretty good thermal insulation.

But this is not a revelation and not a sensation - "nothing divine" ©. Just another kettle with Bluetooth control option.

Its main advantages lie in the purely aesthetic plane. Except for one thing - really good thermal insulation.

At the same time, the disadvantages are purely practical: small volume, lack of a water level sensor, rather complicated installation and configuration of software, and the inability to start the process remotely. And by the way, let's not forget how perfectly matte white surfaces get dirty.

pros

  • many people find him cute
  • good thermal insulation

Minuses

  • lack of official localization
  • no water level sensor
  • no remote start of boiling and heating
