Hello my dear readers.

What is it and who is it for?

This is, as I noted, a grammar book that is suitable for beginners. And it is for beginners that it will bring maximum benefit.

It consists of two parts, each of which corresponds to a certain level of language proficiency. In the people, these two parts are called red murphy - for lower possession, and blue murphy- for a higher one (that is, for those who already have a base).

Pros, cons and my personal conclusion

I am sure that reviews are the basis on which a buyer's choice is built. That's why I want to give you mine professional review, and also talk about the pros and cons. Let's start with the positives:

  • Good structure.

It is built very comfortably. Each turn is a combination of theory and exercises, and each new lesson closes a small topic.

  • Ideal knowledge base.

I am confident that this book, like no other, will form the basis for further study. After it, you will be able to move to another level with absolute confidence in your knowledge.

Minuses Of course, everyone is looking for himself. And I'm sure they'll be hard to find. Someone is not satisfied with the fact that the theory of the lesson is divided into its component parts, someone lacks additional vocabulary, and for someone it is just “passing” on the way to other, more complex ones.

However, my review will be quite brief: if you are just starting to learn grammar and if you want to finally understand it, this is an ideal way out for self-study, or for practice. If you are no longer quite a beginner in learning a language, but far from a professional, you can try something from what I have.

Where can I buy?

Of course, you can download it online and practice it for free. But personally I always advise to buy it. So, it will always be at your fingertips, and I am still sure that learning from purchased books is much more effective. You can buy the allowance either at bookstores, on either Ozon.ru or labirint.com . (these are my favorite shops where buying books is very profitable!)

Finally, my dear ones, I would like to say, whatever you choose, remember that the most important thing is regularly engage in and not "scatter" on other options. Do not forget that I regularly update blog materials. Subscribe to the newsletter and be the first to know about it.

One of the best English grammar books in the world. Author Raymond or Raymond Murphy of "Essential Grammar in Use", German, worked in Cambridge.
This is a self-help guide and a practical textbook for beginners (elementary) students. The site English03.ru> will help you to easily start working with this textbook.

Learn more about future editions of this book > . A continuation of red Murphy came out a book for the intermediate level, about the 2nd year of study (blue Murphy) - English Grammar in Use> You see the first edition, in paperback, in the book markets people call - red Murphy. In my opinion very good option and, most importantly, economical :) One of the advantages of the textbook is very carefully selected vocabulary (words). Everything is only necessary, within the “1st thousand”. This edition is printed regularly every year. This is an elementary level, the basics of English grammar. Everything in the book is in English, so it is problematic to start learning English on your own. Explanations are short, without "water", sometimes schematic. Lots of illustrations. The continuation of this textbook was the blue Murphy>, for the intermediate level (intermediate) students. The logic is the same, but the dictionary is already “2nd thousand” and the material is given much deeper.

Foreword to Raymond Murphy's "Essential Grammar in Use" (short translation):

Student (self-employed): …Don't study all the chapters from beginning to end. It is better to choose the chapters that you need, where you have problems. Use the book as follows: - Scroll through the table of contents and select the desired chapter - Explore left side(there is a theory) - Do the exercises on the right - Check the result in the keys - If necessary, repeat the theory again

Atreader:- this is primarily a grammar, and not a book as a generally accepted English textbook - this is a book for beginners, but not from a complete “0” (and does not cover all grammar) - it combines both a reference book and exercises - can be used as a self-instruction manual and as additional material

Book structure:- 107 chapters (units) independent of each other - 6 additions (appendix) - keys to exercises (keys)

Level- not only for beginners, but can be used by intermediate students who have "lame" grammar - explanations for beginners, so they are as simple and short as possible - vocabulary in the book is strictly limited (1st thousand words for beginners - my note.)

How to use the book- can be used for self-study, as well as additional material for any course - can be used as an elementary reference - when used in courses, it can be used to instantly consolidate the material covered or further return to what has been passed and work on mistakes. - you can use the left side for class explanations, but remember, the book is more suitable for self-study and as a reference. - in most cases, the teacher is advised to explain the material on his own, give exercises, and then use the left side as a reference when checking the house. tasks. - it would be good for the teacher to use the book to review what has been learned and independent work students on the errors in the relevant chapters (units).

If you ask anyone who has ever studied English what textbook they used to study grammar, 9 out of 10 will tell you that it is Raymond Murphy. I myself knew Murphy as a schoolgirl more than 13 years ago. Now this textbook is still one of the main teaching aids for teaching English to children and adults in my library.

So what makes Raymond Murphy's English Grammar in Use so legendary?

Firstly, the format of the textbook is perfect for both classes in educational institution and self-study. Each textbook consists of 100 - 130 units with detailed description and exercises to reinforce the material.

This is exactly how the author offers his grammar lessons. All pages on the left contain rules and examples, and all pages on the right contain exercises. I really like the way the author approaches the submission of rules. He first shows everything with an example from real life, compares, and only then explains the rule itself.

Secondly, Murphy's grammar is a wonderful reference. If you need to remember a particular rule, you can easily find the information you need in a matter of seconds. Many appendices at the end of the textbook cover almost all the grammatical material of the English language.

Within one textbook, units are grouped into groups: Present and Past, Future, Modals, Passive, Question, etc. This means that you will consistently move from simple to complex and will be able to practice different aspects of the same grammatical category, For example present simple or Passive Voice.

However, it should be noted that an important drawback of Murphy's textbooks is the presence of a small number of exercises for both simple and complex topics. Thus, it is not always possible to work out the material covered, you have to turn to additional collections of exercises, for example.

Despite the lack of exercises, I can say that the grammatical material is given out in the amount necessary for free communication in the language and understanding of most of what was said and read. Moreover, in my opinion, "English Grammar in Use" is suitable for . In general, very good book, time-tested and more than one generation of students.
