The technology of installing plastic windows in a wooden house. How to install PVC windows in a wooden house yourself: step by step instructions How to insert a plastic window in a wooden house

Korovin Sergey Dmitrievich

Master of Architecture, graduated from the Samara State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering. 11 years of experience in design and construction.

Due to their performance characteristics, double-glazed windows made of PVC material have gained particular popularity among the population. They are mounted in buildings and structures built of concrete, brick, wood. It is necessary to insert plastic windows in a wooden house by following certain rules.

Important installation details

Starting the installation, you need to prepare the equipment that will be required: a building level and a plumb line, and also know how to insert a plastic window. It is necessary to install a PVC window, strictly observing the placement in the plane according to the level. This will ensure the correct operation of all elements, the sashes will not spontaneously close and open.

PVC window installation technology involves its correct placement in the plane according to the level

When purchasing plastic structures, you need to buy additional special fasteners for installation. The frame is fixed in the pigtail of a wooden structure using self-tapping screws and special fasteners.. By following the technological process and correctly performing the installation of plastic windows in a wooden house, you are guaranteed to receive window blocks that will last a long time.

The window frame is fixed with anchor plates.

If the sashes are dismantled, the structure will become much lighter and it will be easier to move it, however, mounting metal-plastic windows in a wooden house alone is still not recommended. To pull out the sash, you need to remove the pins from the hinges.

How to install PVC double-glazed windows

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house is carried out in stages:

  • preparatory activities before installation;
  • installation of PVC windows;
  • control-checking the location in space;
  • blowing foam.

To understand how to install plastic windows both in a wooden house and from a bar or log house, we will consider each stage in more detail.

Performing preparatory work

First of all, you need to take the exact dimensions by measuring the opening, and order a window structure from a trusted manufacturer. To do this, most often they invite a representative of a company that manufactures plastic frames. You can take measurements yourself. After that, they determine the color of the structure and the completeness of the fittings necessary for the functioning of the window.

When the manufacturer delivers the products to the site, the following steps must be taken:

  • if a decision is made to replace the installed windows in the old opening, first of all, it is necessary to dismantle the structure;
  • after which they clean dust, dirt and remove debris that got into the opening from dismantling;
  • it is worth aligning the opening if its geometry is broken.

Having finished the preparation, they insert a plastic window into a wooden house with their own hands.

Fastening the window structure in the prepared opening

We install the window sill first, it will be the basis for the double-glazed window, so you need to put it strictly in level (horizontally). For fastening strength, cuts are made on the sides of the box about 8 mm deep. Adjustment is carried out using plastic plates or planks. Fastening takes place with self-tapping screws to the bottom of the box. When screwing in, it is worth putting washers under the head of the self-tapping screw, this will prevent damage to the surface.

The next step is to properly install the handle. The film that protects the structures should not be removed, it protects them from damage when windows are being installed. When attaching, the handle must be placed horizontally. When all the fittings have been assembled, the installation of metal-plastic windows begins.

First you need to set the PVC frame in level. A frame is placed on two-centimeter bars and leveled horizontally using a water level. After that, go to the vertical alignment.

Having obtained the ideal parameters at the water level, they fix the frame with self-tapping screws to the pigtail, using mounting fasteners that were specially bought in the store. It is important not to get a self-tapping screw into the crest of the log where the pigtail is installed.

Fix the frame with self-tapping screws

After fixing the window element, we get 2-centimeter gaps around it for mounting foam.

Before applying the mounting foam, you need to hang the sashes so that after foaming the frame profile does not bend and damage the window. It is important to remember that foam can only be applied when the sash is closed..

Construction control and foaming

After hanging the sashes, you need to check how the double-glazed window opens and closes. If the window, which is half open, does not close and does not move further, then the frame is considered to be set correctly and the alignment is correct. Having closed the sash, foaming is performed with foam for installation and left for complete fixation for a day.

Why is casing made for plastic windows in a log house?

To get high-quality PVC windows in a wooden house, you must strictly observe the installation features, that is, install them on a special frame (base). The need for such a design is due to the peculiarities of buildings made of wood. Unlike a building made of stone (concrete or brick), a wooden panel house is unstable over a long period.

Casing prevents deformation of the frame during shrinkage of the house

The building will sit in the first five years after its erection. In this case, the walls dry up to 6 cm. This important nuance must be taken into account when installing a plastic window in a frame house. It is clear that it is impossible to simply insert a plastic window in a wooden house, it is necessary to create a structure for the opening, which has the name casing, they also say - a pigtail. Its direct purpose is to prevent wall shrinkage from affecting the frame, so the pigtail:

  • strengthens the opening;
  • bears the burden;
  • prevents shrinkage.

An okosyachka looks like a box made of thick boards. The structure is fastened in the side rack to the groove, while fasteners are not used. Above the pigtail there is a shrinkage compensation gap for a wooden house. There are several options for installing it:

  • a groove is cut in the log where the bar is placed. Self-tapping screws are screwed into the last element of the embedded beam;
  • a groove is cut in the racks on the sides of the structure, a spike is cut from the end of the log in the opening;
  • a groove is made at the end of the logs, a spike is located on the side posts of the box.

Casing device options

To get a high-quality design, you need to follow the technology for installing plastic windows in a wooden house. To begin with, they cover the ridges of the logs with insulation and fasten it with staples or small carnations. This stage is necessary to insulate the house and eliminate squeaks. Then the lower crossbar of the casing is mounted, and carriages (side racks of pigtails) are stuffed onto the ridges, the upper jumper is laid in the upper groove of the racks. After collecting the box, carefully connect it with self-tapping screws, it is important that they do not fall into the logs.

The cracks that are visible in the opening after the installation of the casing must be filled with tow or insulation. Then there is a standard installation of plastic windows in a frame house or log house.

Cracks are sealed with insulation or tow

The compensation gap is filled with flat planks pre-wrapped with tow. When shrinking, the walls are gradually knocked out. To do this, remove the upper casing and, having knocked out the plank, put it back.

The final stage in the glazing of a wooden structure

Finishing after installing PVC windows in a log house is done in the same way as wooden ones, that is, after installing the frame structure and insulation, they put wooden trim. When ordering PVC windows in a wooden structure, you should look at the option for the wood texture, this will allow them to look harmoniously against the background of a logged structure.

Many manufacturers of PVC structures offer not only the classic white version of the frame colors. You can order any shade that the customer wishes. Colored plastic frames will cost a bit more, but are a better option for a natural-material home.

When ordering, it is important to correctly measure the opening and not make a mistake in the width of the window sill. Self-installation of a PVC window in a wooden house, knowing all the nuances, is not such a complicated process. You can do it yourself, without resorting to the help of expensive installers.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house

I hope no one will argue that since the moment they appeared on the construction market, plastic windows have proven themselves only on the positive side, although there are a few unpleasant moments, but still. It is because of the excellent performance and ease of installation that more and more homeowners prefer them. PVC windows can be easily installed in any window opening, but when installing in a wooden house, you need to take into account a number of nuances, without which all your work will go down the drain. Further on the article we will consider what these nuances are and we will analyze all the stages of installing windows with our own hands.

Materials and tools

To accomplish this task, in addition to PVC windows, we will need the following materials:

Material
Characteristics Purpose
bar 150*100 Casing installation
Board 50*100 Casing installation
Lnovatin Insulation of the sides of the casing
Quality insulation Insulation of the thermal gap on top of the casing
Thermal waterproofing tape Thermal gap waterproofing
Galvanized self-tapping screws Casing fastening
Screws for concrete Nagel MRS Fixing PVC - windows
Linings Plastic Window installation
sealant Seam sealing
Mounting foam Closing the gap between frame and casing

From the tools we will prepare this:

  • Perforator, drill, screwdriver;
  • Chain saw, ordinary saw, grinder;
  • Hammer and rubber mallet;
  • Paint knife, ordinary knife, pliers, furniture stapler, screwdriver;
  • Building level, tape measure;
  • Foam gun.

Preparatory work

1. We dismantle old windows (if any), check whether there is a pigtail or how it is also called casing and what condition it is in (casing is the most important element of a window opening in a wooden house and therefore this stage is very, very important). If there is a pigtail, and it is in good condition - you are lucky, you got rid of a lot of work, but if it is not there or it is in a deplorable state, then read below how to install it.

2. We check the opening for defects, such as rot, chips and eliminate them.

3. We process the opening with a special composition intended for wood, of which there are a lot in hardware stores and proceed to the main work.

Instructions for installing PVC windows

Step 1: As I wrote above, the pigtail plays, perhaps, a key role in our task of installing plastic windows. But first things first, the casing is such a structural element that prevents the windows from deforming during the shrinkage of a wooden house and therefore its installation is mandatory.

There are several modifications of this design, namely:

1. Casing in a “mortgage block”;
2. Casing in the "deck";
3. Casing in the "thorn monolith";
4. "Fine" casing box.

Most often, the last two options are used, we will also not reinvent the wheel and will make a “monolith spike” casing.

First: Knowing the dimensions of the future window, we mark and cut out the corresponding opening.

Advice: From above, we cut the window opening 5 - 10 cm higher than the pigtail will be installed. This is done in order to provide a thermal gap.

Second: We mark the future groove, usually it is made five centimeters in size. After marking, select the groove with a chain saw.

Third: We process the side bars. At the first stage, we should get a t - shaped bar “monolith spike”. After sawing out this figure, we just have to make a bed for the top, that is, the upper jumper, it all looks like this.

Advice: If it is planned to finish the house from the outside, then we buy rough material, but if the house is not additionally finished outside, then we use finishing material based on glued laminated timber.

Fourth: We process the window opening and all the elements of the pigtail with a special tool that protects the tree from decay and other troubles. At the same stage, it is necessary to make thermal insulation between the wall of the house and the pigtail; for this purpose, it is best to use lnovatin.

Fifth: We install the side elements of the casing, then we measure and cut the board for the top bar (top). The top bar needs to be cut out so that it fits into the groove of the side bars with little effort. After installing all the elements, we fix them to the walls of the house with the help of self-tapping screws.

Paste a VALID AdSense code in Ads Elite Plugin options before activating it.

Sixth: We insulate the thermal gap left on top of the casing, this is best done using high-quality insulation installed both on the outside of the window and on the inside. Then, the insulation is necessarily hydro- and vapor-insulated with a tape specially designed for such purposes, such a tape has a self-adhesive strip, but for a more reliable fastening it is better to walk on it with a furniture stapler.

From all that I described above, the following should turn out:

Important: Never use mounting foam to isolate the thermal gap, because after hardening it will turn into a very hard substance that will transfer all the loads associated with shrinkage of the house, windows and the pigtail will cease to perform its functions.

Step 2: We proceed directly to the installation of a plastic window in a wooden house, this step, like the previous ones, will be divided into several stages.

1. We take out a double-glazed window from a window frame. We start with the opening sash, insert the handle into the groove and move it to the open position, the sash does not need to be opened. We remove the rod of the upper hinge, open the sash and remove it from the lower hinge.

2. We remove the side glazing beads from the “deaf” sash, for this, with a thin object, for example, with a knife, we bend the glazing beads towards the double-glazed window and back, they should click and remove them. After all the glazing beads are removed, we put on gloves, since the edges of the double-glazed window are very sharp and carefully remove the double-glazed window.

Advice: To avoid falling out of the double-glazed window, first remove the side glazing beads and only then the lower and upper ones.

3. We drill holes in the frame for fasteners. For this purpose, we use a drill 6 * 70 or longer. We drill holes for fasteners at a distance of 15 cm from the corners and imposts of the frame and no more than 70 cm from each other.

4. We try on the prepared window frame, having previously placed plastic linings under the corners and impost. Then we align the window frame using the same linings and the building level, applying it to the attachment points of the glazing beads and installing linings where necessary. Make sure that the upper part of the frame does not rest against the casing. The gap at the top must be at least 1 cm.

5. After the frame is leveled and the necessary wedges are placed, we proceed to drilling the walls. You cannot cope with such a task alone, because one person will have to drill, and the other will have to hold the window box and look at the level so that the verticality of the window does not go astray. To begin with, we drill two holes at the top and bottom of the box, insert screws into them, for fastening we will use concrete screws (MRS dowel), we twist them, but not completely, as it may be necessary to adjust the lateral deflection of the window box. After leveling the window, tighten all the screws.

Advice: It is not necessary to tighten the screws too much, as you can knock down the verticality of the window. It will be enough to slightly drown the head of the screw into the plastic.

6. We foam the gaps between the window frame and the casing. Fifteen minutes later, as soon as the foam hardens, you can insert double-glazed windows and finish the window opening. We will not touch on fine finishing in the framework of this article, since this topic is very extensive.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house: installation features, instructions, video

Plastic double-glazed windows have gained popularity because of their performance. But can they be used in the construction and repair of wooden buildings? Of course, you can and should.

Installing plastic windows in a wooden house has a lot of differences and features. The process includes a number of preparatory manipulations, primarily related to the fact that the structure tends to sag over time.

We install a PVC window in a private house

Features of the technology for installing PVC windows in a wooden house of a new or old building do not have a strong difference. In any case, experts recommend technology using casing - time-tested, this technology allows you to avoid deformation, regardless of the material from which it is made.

Installing a plastic window in a wooden house or cottage with your own hands will require some knowledge and skills from the performer. Of course, if there are none, then it is better to turn to specialists. The complexity of self-assembly of PVC systems in a wooden house lies in the fact that the frame is fastened using a tongue and groove mechanism. This design allows you to create such operating conditions in which the deformation and subsidence of wood does not have a direct effect on the double-glazed window.

According to statistics, a wooden house can shrink up to 30 cm. Depending on the material, due to the drying of wood for 1 year after the construction of the building, the amount of shrinkage of the structure per meter of height is:

  • log: 40-60 mm;
  • beam: 30-40 mm;
  • beam glued 10-30 mm.

These factors should not be neglected, since the subsidence of the building already in the first year threatens to crush the window with the crowns of the wall structure.

Shrinkage of the walls can also occur after 5 years of operation of the house under the influence of seasonal changes in the composition and humidity of the air. At the same time, the installation of windows in old houses also implies the presence of casing.

So, consider the algorithm for installing PVC systems in wooden houses.

Stage number 1. Preparatory work

Before starting direct installation, it is necessary to carry out a number of preparatory measures:

  • dismantling the old window (if replacement is taking place);
  • cleaning the opening from dirt and debris;
  • make the necessary measurements and calculations;
  • drawing up a drawing and fixing the measurement parameters of the opening;
  • alignment of the contours of the sides of the window opening, if the hole has an irregular shape;
  • alignment is performed using putty or sealant;
  • decide on the design and functionality (number of doors, their size, which of them will open);
  • determine the manufacturer and color of the product.

Only after performing all the above manipulations, we order a window from the manufacturer, taking into account individual wishes.

Stage number 2. Installation

As soon as the windows are delivered and the necessary preliminary work has been carried out, you can proceed directly to the installation. Tools:

  • drill;
  • construction level;
  • chisel;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • mallet;
  • pliers;
  • anchor plates and bolts;
  • key for adjusting windows;
  • mounting foam;
  • spacer wedges;
  • spray bottle with water.

Casing: purpose, types and design

The casing is a box-shaped structure, which is made of three or four boards and installed around the perimeter inside the opening.

The system allows you to install a plastic window yourself, so that the window is fixed independently of the main wall structure and has a floating character. The window system is fixed with the help of grooves on the side, which are mounted on spikes protruding from the end of the logs and timber.

To fix and seal the casing, only tow, linen or fiber insulation is used. In any case, mounting foam.

Thus, the shrinkage of the walls of a wooden structure in no way affects the window and, moreover, will not damage it. Depending on the fasteners, casings can be classified into the following types:

  • into a spike. Such a design is characterized by the presence of a spike, which is mounted on the side parts of the casing, and a groove, which is located in the logs of the opening;
  • in a mortgage bar. The basis of fastening is considered to be a bar, which is placed in a groove at the ends of the opening and passes through the casing posts;
  • into the deck. The spike is located at the ends of the logs of the window opening, but the groove is in the casing posts.

The box is a floating mechanism that excludes deformation of the plastic window during operation, regardless of the type of casing installation.

Calculations should be made with high accuracy, since even a slight error can lead to deformation of the window frame or leakage of the structure. In addition, proper installation is a guarantee of the quality of the plastic window itself.

How to make a pigtail (casing)

The design can be of two types: complex and simple. A simple pigtail is the system described above, with bars and grooves. The complex design is performed somewhat differently: a comb is cut out in the window opening, on which a carriage with grooves is put on. This option is more reliable. When the walls shrink, the comb can slide and does not allow vertical deviations, excluding pressure on the window frame.

The casing, as a rule, is made of timber. Using a wood chisel, a 0.5 cm groove is knocked out in the center of the beam, and a spike (0.5x0.5x.25 cm) is cut out from one end. A comb with spikes 0.5x0.5 cm is cut from the end of the opening logs. To do this, you can use a saw or a chisel.

After the comb is ready, we proceed to install the risers and form the opening structure between them. The bars are set according to the level, taking into account the gaps for shrinkage of the walls (1 cm on the sides and 0.5 cm on top). The frame of the bars is strengthened with the help of grooves with the main canvas of the walls and dowels between them. The gaps left are sealed with tow or other fiber. That's all, now you can proceed with the installation of the plastic frame itself. You can see the process in more detail in this video:

Stage number 3. Installation in the prepared opening

After carrying out the necessary preparatory work and installing the pigtails, you can proceed with the installation of the window.

To begin with, we check the dimensions and location of the parallels, the gaps between the casing and the frame. The stock for foaming should be: 4-5 cm at the top, 2-3 cm in width and height, 3-4 cm in the window sill area. After making sure that the stock corresponds to these indicators, we proceed directly to the installation of a plastic frame.

The window is fastened with special fasteners, which are sold at any hardware store. They are metal plates with holes.

Installation of a plastic window should be carried out according to the level. If you neglect this factor, then you risk getting a tilted design, which significantly reduces the operational and aesthetic objectives of the window.

After the window is fixed in the opening, it is necessary to fill the gap with mounting foam. To avoid displacement of the structure during foaming, bars are placed that will maintain the position of the frame without deviations. After drying, do not forget to remove it.

Securing the window in the casing is done with care. In this case, it is necessary to choose the correct location for tightening the screws. Under no circumstances should a window be fixed in the ridge area!

That's all, we finish the process by completely foaming the opening. We put on the sashes and let the foam dry.

We have presented the correct way to install a plastic window in a wooden house. This process can be difficult, so if you are unsure of your abilities, it is better to turn to professionals.

However, installing a plastic window with your own hands is a significant cost savings. We offer you to watch a video instruction for installing a window with your own hands:

Installing plastic windows in a wooden house: do-it-yourself installation video

Repair work in a wooden house differs significantly from similar buildings in a different form. Most companies do not provide a guarantee for installations carried out here, especially plastic windows. Isn't this a reason to think about DIY installation? Armed with a step-by-step video, you can achieve a high-quality result, significantly saving the family budget.

Features of installing a window system in a wooden house

There are many prejudices about wooden houses. The service life of PVC windows installed here depends entirely on the quality of the building itself and compliance with the technology of the installation process.

You can not start working with a window opening in a new wooden house right away. In order to avoid deformation in the future, it is recommended to wait some time for the structure to stand, the wood to dry out, excess moisture to evaporate from it, and the walls to become static. Thus, the chance of mowing the opening is minimized.

As a place for a window, do not choose the outer part of a wooden house. The opening can be in the center or closer to one of the corners, but not in contact with it.

The installation process itself is not too laborious: it can be carried out with one pair of hands in a few hours. The subtleties of the preparatory work depend on whether the windows have already been installed before or whether the casing needs to be created from scratch. A similar technology can be used to install PVC in any wooden building: a bathhouse, a gazebo, etc.

Preparing the Workspace

For hand-made installation of plastic windows, you need a reliable base - a frame. If the previous windows were installed within the last few years, did not have time to acquire physical damage and rot, then you can use the box from them as a frame for the new system. With this option, measurements are made according to the new size of the opening, focusing on the preserved box.

If PVC is installed in a new building, then you will have to take care of the pigtail. This is the name of the design that prevents the window system from deformation. There are several types of it:

  • With a mortgage bar;
  • In the groove of a log wall;
  • On a spike in the wall;
  • With a quarter.

Using a rag, you can remove dirt, dust and start measuring. The reliability and expediency of carrying out all further work depends on their accuracy: inattention at this stage can jeopardize the entire installation.

Advice. If the opening is distorted, then to create a plan with measurements, they are guided by the supposedly correct geometric shape and right angles, and the deformations are removed with a sealant or ordinary putty.

Window sill installation and window preparation

The window sill is the basis of the entire window system, therefore its installation must be carried out with a level: the horizontal surface must be ideal both from the longitudinal and transverse positions.

To do the work with your own hands, the following algorithm of actions is used:

  1. Small recesses (at least 5 mm) are made in the window box for additional fixation of the window sill.
  2. Using plates made of fiberboard, plastic or wood treated with an antiseptic, level the level of the window sill.
  3. With the help of self-tapping screws, the installation of the window sill is carried out. A gasket or washer must be placed under the caps to prevent cracks. For self-tapping screws, you need to choose a place where they will be hidden by a future window. Usually, it is located at a distance of 2-4 cm from the end.
  4. After installing the window sill, its horizontalness is checked using the building level.

As for the window itself, it is necessary to attach the handle in the downward position (closed state) before installation.

Window installation

Installing a window in a prepared area of a wooden house is no different from installing it in another structure. The process is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Marking the window frame and drilling mounting holes. The procedure is performed using a 6 mm drill for the corresponding self-tapping screw 1 mm smaller in diameter.
  2. Installation of the system in the opening. At the same time, they are guided by the window sill, the even level of which, thanks to additional control, is beyond doubt. The center is determined using a centimeter tape.
  3. Level relative to the wall. To make the window parallel to the wall surface, use a plumb line. If it is trimmed with siding, which allows you to place a level between the trim and the wall, then you can use it.
  4. Fixing a bar that would completely fill the space between the window and its frame. It will become the focus for further installation. Installation without it may lead to overlapping of the window opening-closing mechanism.
  5. The window is fastened with self-tapping screws from the bottom and top of the side posts, so that they do not interfere with the free opening of the window in the box.
  6. Foaming of cracks and removal of its excess.

Installing a PVC window with your own hands can save up to 60% of the family budget. Following the detailed instructions for their installation will make the structure resistant to seasonal tree deformations, extending the life of the system for a long time.

Reading time ≈ 6 minutes

Every builder knows how to install wooden windows in a wooden house, but ordinary residents of private houses cannot do this with their own hands. The reason is the lack of knowledge, although ordering such a procedure from experts will cost a pretty penny. Read the information below to make your home as comfortable and warm as possible.

Grandparents know perfectly well what a wooden frame is. After all, before such windows were on every corner. The process of installing a wooden window requires special skills and abilities from the master in order to get the right result. It is from the experience and skill of the master that the quality of installation, compliance with tightness, service life, and the appearance as a whole directly depend. And in order to avoid drafts and unnecessary distortions, let's look at the correct instructions for installing wooden windows step by step. When installing a wooden window, one cannot do without skill and certain skills, but then it will be possible to make an excellent glazed one.

Features of installation and dismantling of old wooden windows

Before installing wooden windows in a wooden house, you should listen to the recommendations of experienced craftsmen in order to effectively carry out the operation with your own hands. Especially if you have never experienced this kind of work before. It is best to transfer such a process into the hands of a master who knows all the secrets of installation firsthand. After all, the lack of necessary skills can lead to the fact that the frame will be damaged. And their cost is quite high, so spending extra money on repairs is expensive. In addition, repair is not always possible. However, it is often necessary to install products, for example, in.

Woodworking enthusiasts can delve into the details of the installation and try their hand at this craft. If you follow the recommendations, you will not only be able to install a wooden window with high quality, but also save a lot.

Tip: in the case of ordering a new wooden window, it is worth leaving the installation in the hands of the manufacturer. The fact is that in this way all guarantees for this design will be preserved. And if the installation is independent, then all your mistakes will remain on your conscience.

In any case, before installing new window frames, it is worth removing the old structures. This paragraph does not apply to houses that are under construction. By following the correct sequence of actions, you will greatly facilitate your task:

  1. Before work, you need to prepare the room. If possible, it is better to move small interior details, clothes and furniture to another room. Thus, your things will be safe and sound.
  2. The furniture that has remained in the room and the flooring should be secured. To do this, it is enough to cover them with a film.
  3. Floor coverings should also be removed. This includes a carpet, carpet, path, etc.

After such preparations, you can proceed to the very dismantling of the old window. To do this, carefully, but applying force, you need to disassemble the wooden frame. At the same time, the slopes are beaten off along with the plaster. This operation will help you determine the presence of a lintel. Without this element, the structure is dangerous. In older buildings, such a "hack" is found all the time. If you are also included in this number of "lucky ones", then further actions are impossible without solving such an issue with professional builders, and you do not need to meddle there yourself. But experience will help you further develop in the direction, and then completely.

Then beat off the slopes in all places. Take a close look at each wall to see if there are embedded bars on which the window frame is fixed. It is worth immediately determining their condition.

Mortgage bars in the wall

Tip: In order to find out if these bars need to be replaced or not, use a regular awl. It is worth sticking it in a bar. If it sits tight and is difficult to pull out, then everything is in order. Their presence is not necessary to install a new window.

The importance of correct measurement of parameters

Replacing any window requires the correct measurement of parameters. This will determine how perfectly the window fits into the window opening. If you have a wooden house, then cleaning should take place up to the level of the casing. Now you can start taking measurements. It is important to measure clearly and in the right places. Even a small mistake can cross out everything.

Even if you have saved previous measurements, it is not a fact that they will fit now. After all, over time, any building is influenced by external factors. It is important to create a wooden window slightly smaller than the opening itself. So you can correctly set the frame in relation to the horizon using the correction. To do this, subtract 15 - 25 mm from the height, and as much as 4 - 6 cm from the width indicator.

All parameters are taken from ideal lines (horizontal and vertical). To create them, use the building level. Modern devices, such as a laser tape measure, will greatly simplify all measurements. After all, it will give a real indicator for each parameter. It is also important to know how if they are located on the upper floors.

Wooden window installation step by step

Before you install a wooden frame, you need to prepare the necessary tools. For work you will need:

  • drill and perforator;
  • pliers with a hammer;
  • screwdrivers;
  • perhaps a saw and a planer with an axe.

It will not be superfluous to buy a sealant on silicone, mounting foam, roofing material (polyurethane). These materials are useful in order to seal the opening.

If a wooden window is installed in a wooden house, then the technology involves the use of support blocks.

Initially, the installation of wooden windows in a wooden house with your own hands begins with protecting the window from moisture, which can be provided by a wooden wall. After all, such moisture provokes the occurrence of mold and various fungal growths. And all this spoils the wood very quickly. Therefore, it is necessary to glue parts of the roofing material in the opening. It sits well on silicone. Here is what you should do:

  1. Blocks (length 12 - 15 cm) made of wood. One end should already be under the frame. The widest point should correspond to the distance between the frame and the wall. You need at least 4 pieces.
  2. 2 pieces are installed at the bottom of the opening. There should be about 80 cm between them (depending on the size of the wooden window).
  3. Remove the sashes from your frame and place it in the opening itself on supports. Keep the required slope - at least 10 cm.

  1. The remaining pads are set according to this scheme, as in the photo. They shouldn't be too tight, so use a planer to lighten them up if necessary. Constantly adhere to the vertical (plumb test) and horizontal (level test) so that there are not even small distortions.
  2. When everything is set perfectly, you can pull out the block one at a time, fill this place with sealant and insert it back.
  3. The hardest part is behind. Now it's up to the mounting foam. With its help, all the cracks around the perimeter are closed. You need to work with it carefully, and after drying, simply cut off the excess parts with a knife.

You can learn more about installing windows from the video. Now you know perfectly well how to install wooden windows in a wooden house, and you can do it yourself, and not spend extra money on the work of builders. The main thing is attention and patience.

It is known that wooden windows in houses built from timber are rightfully considered the safest and most practical solution that favorably affects the microclimate in the dwelling.

Fundamental in the presented case is that when it shrinks, the window system and walls behave uniformly. The decisive role here is played by their installation according to technology.

Features of installing windows in a wooden house

The assembly of windows in a timber structure has certain features. As you know, wood shrinks. In houses made of chopped logs or during the first 5 years, shrinkage is about 10-13% of the height of the building, while it shrinks no more than 2%.

If there is warping of window structures, the formation of interventional gaps in the walls or cracking of a double-glazed window, this indicates a violation of the technology during the installation process.

  1. In houses made of chopped wood, logs, planed or profiled timber, it is advisable to install a window support after shrinkage of the house (not earlier than 1.5 years after construction).
  2. The installation of windows after the construction of the log house is not rational due to the lack of the possibility of calculating the shrinkage of the walls. This indicator depends on the moisture content of the timber.
  3. In houses made of glued laminated timber, windows can be installed immediately after erection of walls and installation of a roof of the house.
  4. The installation of windows must be carried out exclusively by means of sliding joints - support bars and casing. Tying window blocks and pigtail construction to logs or timber is strictly prohibited. Tight fastening during shrinkage leads to a violation of the integrity of the window modules and walls of the building. In fact, the window system must balance separately in relation to the wall.
  5. In the upper part above the window frames, it is necessary to provide for a shrinkage margin - a gap of 6-7 cm. Miscalculations of spare gaps can lead to poor closing of windows or interventional gaps in the walls.

Scheme of installation of wooden windows

Window opening preparation

Before mounting the box, prepare a window opening. The opening should be rectangular in shape without cracks, recesses, distortions and other flaws. From all its surfaces it is necessary to remove construction waste, dirt, dust and deposits.

In order to avoid distortions in the future, accurate measurements of the external, internal and lateral sides of the opening are required.

In the case when the distortion of the opening is significant, and it is not possible to correct it, it is recommended to expand the parameters of the window in such a way that the highest level of the outer opening exceeds the width by 2.5-4 cm, and the height by 1-2 cm.

To carry out the extension makes it possible to install an additional profile on the window. This will prevent the appearance of gaps between the box and the hole in the areas of maximum skew.

In addition to the option of expanding the size of the opening to correct the skew, there is such an option as increasing the parameters of the window frame.

siege

A special design, which is a wooden box without a bottom crossbar, the purpose of which is to securely fasten the window and maintain the shape of the window frame, regardless of the degree of shrinkage of the house, is called casing or pigtail.

There are several types of this design:

  1. Whole. It is made from specially processed solid material.
  2. Adhesive. The individual components are made of typesetting boards, connected by means of micro-grooves and glue. All burrs and small knots are removed.
  3. Mixed. Part of the casing is made in one piece, and the other part is made using glue. Upon completion of installation, the pigtail is varnished. This type is suitable for the use of large window sills.

An okosyachka is made according to the size of each window. Moreover, if internal lining is planned, then a sample can be made for it. When facing on both sides, sampling is not performed.

The assembly of the casing can begin after the preparation of the window opening.

Its production is carried out as follows:

  1. Grooves are made in the base, which is adjacent to the window opening. A beam of the same size is inserted into them, acting as the side of the casing.
  2. First, a beam is placed at the bottom of the opening, which will prevent the displacement of the side elements.
  3. A seal is placed under the beam from linen tow.
  4. Sealing material is placed in the recesses and install the side boards.
  5. The final step is fixing the top board of the structure.
  6. A space is left on top of the pigtail for the wood to dry out and fill it with a sealant. So in the process of drying the logs, the window opening will not be affected by the load.

Window installation

The window is installed in the following sequence:

  1. A waterproofing layer is laid on the lower part of the opening. and sealing material.
  2. Install the window frame and fix it with the help of linings or wedges made of wood.
  3. Using a building level or plumb line, adjust the horizontals and verticals. In this case, attention should be paid to the actual horizontal and vertical, and not to the sides of the window opening.
  4. On each side of the opening, in increments of 50 cm, drill holes.
  5. With self-tapping screws fix the box.
  6. Perform isolation of the space between the box and the wall sealing material.
  7. Next, mount the frame. It is installed in the grooves of the box and attached to it with screws.
  8. Window blocks are installed on the box with hinges(separable and inseparable). The difference between them is the possibility of removing the hinge. Detachable are convenient in areas where there is no possibility of raising the window transom. Even fastening of the hinges contributes to the even hanging of window transoms. They are fastened with screws.
  9. The sash is locked by means of a locking element or a latch. After checking the opening and closing of the transom, fix the frame using nails.
  10. Next, proceed to the installation of window sills. They are mounted from the inside so that the side edges go into the walls by 4.5-5 cm on both sides.
  11. Immediately before installation, using a lime-gypsum mixture, align the bottom of the window opening.
  12. The window sill is fixed with wedges. After laying the thermal insulation material, it is finally fixed.
  13. Installation of ebbs is carried out from the outside of the opening- for the entire width of the frame penetration into the base.
  14. The gaps between the casing of the base and the box, as well as the upper and sides of the window, are closed with a casing. It is advisable to use the same type of wood from which the house is built as platbands.
  15. All parts of the casing are interconnected. To do this, use spikes, nails or adhesive solution.
  16. Preliminary marking of placement fasteners (the step is 10-12 cm).
  17. So that in the process of fastening the platbands they do not move, the design can be put on glue.
  18. The final step is to fix the platbands with nails or self-tapping screws., and closing the gaps between the base and the platbands with sealing material.

  1. For the manufacture of casing, wood with a moisture content of at least 10% is used., otherwise cracks form inside the structure over time.
  2. In the manufacture of pigtails is strictly prohibited use metal fasteners.
  3. Building foam cannot be used as a sealing material when assembling the casing. In this case, the wood is bonded, which prevents its natural shrinkage.
  4. In the process of installing windows, it is important to properly drill holes for them. The optimal distance from the window sill to the floor is 85-90 cm.
  5. Experts do not recommend installing windows without installing a pigtail, even if the house was built many years ago and the log house is completely dry. This is due to the fact that throughout the entire life of the tree has a tendency to shrink.
  6. For greater efficiency and heat retention, wooden windows should be installed closer to the outside of the window opening.
  7. As a material for the window sill, it is necessary to choose hardwoods. The window sill made of glued wood has the longest service life, the window sill made of solid wood has the shortest service life (as a rule, the product is warped).
  8. The corners of the window opening should be 90 degrees, and the diagonals should not differ by more than 10 mm. If the hole in the base is larger than the allowable value, more sealing material will be required. If you do not ensure the evenness of the corners, warping of the box is possible.
  9. It is important to correctly calculate the depth of the window in the opening so that the dew point isoline, equal to 10 degrees, passes in its inner part. Then there will be no condensation on the inside of the window.

Every reader of the site knows that no matter what material the windows are made of, they help keep the heat in the house and emphasize the individuality of any home. Therefore, the installation process should be treated with special attention. After all, even the most expensive and energy-efficient window construction loses all its advantages if it is installed incorrectly. In this article, our experts tell you how to properly install windows in a wooden, frame and stone house.

Wooden, stone and frame houses and country houses have a number of design features. Since they affect the technology of window installation, any developer should be aware of them.

From our article you will learn:

  • How to prepare for the installation of a window structure;
  • What stages of work precede the installation process;
  • What features should you be aware of in order to install windows in wooden, frame and stone houses;
  • How to install a wooden window with your own hands - how different is its installation from installing a plastic window;
  • How is the protection of mounting joints;
  • How to control the installation process.

Preliminary preparation

Despite the seeming simplicity, installing windows at home is a process that requires a serious and responsible approach. After all, the quality of installation directly affects the level of comfort in the house. Here's where the process starts:

Anton Karyavkin Head of the technical center of the REHAU company, Moscow.

First of all, you need to carefully prepare: read the instructions and existing installation standards, get the right tools.

A set of a professional installer has about a hundred different "tools". It is not necessary to have all of them, but without a basic kit, it will not be possible to install a translucent structure. It includes: puncher, screwdriver, foam gun, chisel, hammer and screwdrivers.

When choosing tools, it should also be borne in mind that window installation involves a wide range of additional work.

These include:

  • Plastering slopes in stone buildings;
  • Seam and thermal insulation device;
  • Installation of a window sill and additional accessories.

The main thing to remember is that the installation technology directly depends on the material of the walls of the building.

Anatoly Gavrysh Head of the design bureau of the company "Fabrika Okon"

The type of house significantly affects the procedure for window installation. In houses where there is significant shrinkage (most often in wooden ones), a casing floating box with compensation gaps is used. In other types of houses, window installation has the same schemes.

Do-it-yourself installation of wooden windows in a frame house.

We install wooden windows with our own hands

Developers believe that there is a big difference between installing PVC and a wooden window, but experts disagree.

Anatoly Gavrysh:

There is practically no difference between the installation of a plastic and a wooden window. A slight difference lies only in the different elements of fasteners.

Do-it-yourself installation of a wooden window should be carried out more carefully. And in each case, an individual approach is required.

Alexander KorpachevHead of the installation department of the company "Business-M"

Even windows in the same house can have their own characteristics. Therefore, in the work it is necessary to adhere to the recommendations of GOSTs, namely:

  • Mounting window seams - with vapor-permeable self-expanding tapes;
  • Specifications, GOST R 52749-2007;
  • Assembly seams of knots and adjunctions of window blocks to wall apertures;
  • General specifications, GOST 30971-2002;
  • Window blocks - from polyvinylchloride (PVC) profiles. GOST 30674-99.

In general terms, the installation consists of the following steps:

  • Opening preparation;
  • window preparation;
  • Installation;
  • Finishing work;
  • Finishing.

Anatoly Gavrysh

I would like to dispel the illusions about the ease of installation of both plastic and. To carry it out on your own, you definitely need certain skills and special equipment, since proper installation is of decisive importance in how well and how long new window structures will last.

In detail, the installation of both plastic and wooden windows is done as follows:

1. Window openings are cleaned of dust and dirt.

2. Windows are installed in the opening and wedged with small plastic or wooden corners strictly according to the level.

Corners are necessary to form a clearance (reserve) between the frame and the opening. Along the perimeter - between the window and the opening, it is recommended to lay a technological gap for foaming with a width of 20 mm. In the lower part of the window - under the window sill, it is recommended to lay a margin of 35 mm.

3. The design is fixed.

Fixation is carried out using dowels or special mounting gear plates. If the window is fastened through with self-tapping screws, then before that, holes for the anchor are marked and drilled in the opening. The number of attachment points depends on the size of the window and on average ranges from 40 to 70 cm. An indent of 12-15 cm must be laid from the corners of the frame.

4. Foaming of the seams between the window structure and the opening is carried out.

To save foam, if the gap exceeds 40 mm, it can be filled with insulation - polystyrene foam, etc.

5. The foam is closed with vapor and waterproofing tapes.

The vapor barrier is glued around the entire perimeter of the window structure from the inside (from the side of the room), and the waterproofing film - from the outside, from the side of the street. After foaming, the protective strip is removed from the tape, and the foamed seam is closed.

6. Additional elements are installed in their place from the outside - flashings and platbands (if the installation takes place in wooden houses).

7. The fittings are being adjusted.

Features of installing windows in a wooden, frame and stone house

Anton Karyavkin

Installing windows in buildings made of rounded timber is the most difficult. This is due to the change in the design of wooden houses from manufacturer to manufacturer.

If developers use different types of wood when installing windows in a wooden house, it is almost impossible to predict the behavior of the material - every time you have to study everything from scratch. The deformation of logs in such buildings can be quite large: from 8 to 15 cm. The house shrinks, so not a single window in such conditions can remain operational for a long time.

Proper windows in a wooden house.

Here is what we can do to protect structures from possible deformations caused by wall shrinkage using the old carpentry method:

Anton Karyavkin

The most responsible builders start cutting an opening in the timber walls only a year or even two after the construction of the house. During this time, it is possible to track all deformations, taking into account the characteristics of the material and the climatic features of the region.

After the opening is cut, a rough box is inserted into it, also known as a "pit" or "casing", into which the window structure can then be laid.

Alexander Korpachev

In all wooden houses, when installing windows, it is necessary to use casing or pigtails - a wooden box that levels the load on the frame.

Between the upper part of the window opening and the box, a technological margin of 30 to 70 mm is usually left. After installation, the stock is filled with insulation and closed with platbands on both sides.

Anton Karyavkin

The box is made of wooden blocks 50-80 mm thick.

Despite the fact that the box quite effectively perceives the deformation of logs, the assembly joints in this type of building still remain movable. Here it is important to choose the right mounting foam - it should not collapse when the walls shrink. Such correct foam can be found on the market, but it is relatively expensive. Therefore, experts often replace it with other materials, mainly of plant origin (tow). Of course, the tape and coating materials needed to protect the assembly joints must also have a high class of deformation resistance.

Glued laminated timber shrinks much less than solid logs. As a result, glued laminated timber deforms less than a regular log.

But installing windows in a wooden house with your own hands is still difficult.

How to lay a window in a frame house

Wooden windows can also be installed in a frame house, but plastic windows are most often used. The control of the installation of any windows at all stages should be checked using a level or plumb line, and the horizontal and vertical deviation should not exceed 1.5 mm per meter.

Anton Karyavkin

The process of installing windows in a frame house is much simpler than in a wooden one. You will still have to face the deformations of the window opening, but they are no longer so significant.

As fasteners, it is better to use anchor plates. Mounting on building screws is not recommended: they fix the box, and the deformation of the tree, in turn, can cause damage to the windows.

How to install a window in a frame house

It is important to remember that when installing a plastic window in a frame from a room, it must be wrapped into a window opening. This is necessary in order to connect the window vapor barrier circuit with the room vapor barrier circuit.

Brick of various types, concrete, aerated concrete blocks are standard building materials. The technique in stone houses has been worked out for years. Fastening is carried out using dowels and construction screws, the use of anchor plates is also allowed.

Anton Karyavkin

In some cases, the installation technology may be influenced by design decisions that require taking into account the linear dimensions of the structures and the wind load in the region.

Protection of mounting joints and stages of control of installation work

Regardless of the material of the walls, it is necessary to protect the mounting foam from ultraviolet radiation and atmospheric moisture. Otherwise, it will become loose and lose its properties over time. To protect it, special insulating tapes and sealants are used. The latter are good because they allow you to close any gaps and irregularities, unlike mounting tape, which requires a perfectly flat surface without dust.

Installing a PVC window in a wooden house

Plastic windows are used today almost everywhere - in residential buildings, and in administrative buildings, and in city apartments, and in country houses. At the same time, it is one thing - glazing with “plastic” a rigid opening in a reinforced concrete panel, there are no special problems here, but the installation and installation of PVC windows in a wooden house is much more difficult - the openings in its walls must be properly prepared and strengthened so that the heavy window is firmly held on place.

The correct technology for glazing a wooden house with plastic windows first of all requires complete shrinkage of the house. Until the construction of the house and its foundation have taken their final form and position, it is not recommended to install windows - in the event of movement of certain elements, damage to the window block and double-glazed window is possible. Therefore, we built a house, let it settle down and sit in a permanent place, and after that we already proceed to glazing with PVC windows. This requirement is equivalent to all other wooden buildings, whether it be a bathhouse, a barn, a gazebo, etc.

In order to prevent damage to the window block due to unexpected movement or shrinkage of the walls, it is necessary to make a pigtail in the opening. This is a structure made of molded timber, which is mounted in the opening.

In order for the pigtail to take its rightful place, you need to cut out the central spike on the sides of the window opening in the opening. To do this, we divide the surface of the opening into 3 segments, leave the central one in place, and remove the side ones by about 5 cm. Before mounting the pigtail elements, you need to overlay these resulting protrusions with tow - it will prevent creaking and increase thermal insulation.

Naturally, you need to prepare a recess in the pigtail elements. To do this, you need to take a timber of the required size and a section of about 10-15 cm and hollow out a notch for the spike along the center line. It must also be remembered that the length of the beam should be about 5 cm less than the opening and at the same time also 5 cm more than the window.

Window sill installation

When the pigtail is ready, you can begin to install the window sill. We must not forget about it - first the window sill, and then the window! The following instructions describe the process of working with a window sill:

  • you need to cut grooves of small depth in the sidewalls of the box for the window sill, without them the window sill will not hold well;
  • then, using thin spacers made of wood or plastic, we level the surface;
  • we insert the window sill into the grooves and fasten it with self-tapping screws. Fastening must be done so that the caps of the screws are hidden by the window lining, you also need to put rubber washers under the cap.

window installation

When the window sill is installed, the installation and installation of PVC windows begins - in a wooden house of a small number of storeys, you can do it on your own, especially since the cost of specialist services when calling them outside the city will be rather big.

  • first we prepare the window block, dismantle all the sashes and removable double-glazed windows;
  • then we insert the box into the opening and align it with the help of bars;
  • we fix the window with anchors, they should be installed from the sides and from above;
  • the space between the window and the opening is filled with mounting foam.

If the window is straight, you can return the double-glazed windows to their place, they must be fixed with a special glazing bead. Then the sashes are hung and the window fittings are adjusted. When everything is in place, all the remaining cracks are foamed, it will also not be superfluous to seal the joint between the window and the window sill with a sealant. Do not forget to foam the cavity under the windowsill.

The final stage is the installation of the ebb. It is leveled, fixed with screws, and foamed in several places.

Do-it-yourself installation (installation) of metal-plastic windows. Instructions for installing metal-plastic windows

At the height of the repair season, the most common type of work is the installation of metal-plastic windows. For greater confidence that the workers you hired fully comply with the technology for installing metal-plastic windows, it’s not bad to know the main stages of this process yourself.

IMPORTANT! For making cuts, do not use a wheel for metal because of the risk of tearing it.

It is better to take an ordinary saw or a grinder with a circle on concrete (from the latter, however, there will be a lot of dust).

Photo 1 - Cuts in the old window frame for dismantling

  • The frame is removed piece by piece with a crowbar. The dismantling of a wooden window sill is carried out in the same way as the removal of the frame, concrete window sills in good condition are not dismantled, and after all installation work is completed, they are tiled or any other coating with a layer of insulation.
  • We clean the window opening, prime it, and after the primer dries, we apply markings: we mark the places where the window is fastened.

    The fastening step should be no more than 70 cm on each side of the window. The extreme fasteners from the corners of the window frame should not be removed by more than 5-15 cm.

  • The self-tapping screws used to fix the frame must be fixed in the metal inside the PVC profile (by the way, the presence of a reinforcing component distinguishes a metal-plastic window from a simple PVC window).

    Installation of metal-plastic windows should be carried out only with special self-tapping screws for metal (4 mm in diameter).

    Installation and installation of PVC windows in a wooden house - nothing complicated

    Drills are placed at the ends of such self-tapping screws, which ensure the entry of fasteners into the material.

When using another mounting screw, you will first need to make holes in the window frame, and then insert the screw into them.

If the window size exceeds a square of 2x2 m, self-tapping screws 12 mm in diameter are needed.

  • Another fastener is the anchor plate. We place fasteners along the perimeter of the frame at the previously marked points. We insert the frame into the window opening and mark on the surface of the walls the places for drilling the second row of mounting holes. The recesses for placing the anchor plates should go into the walls by 2-4 cm - this will make it easier to carry out work on the installation of slopes and window sills later.
  • We set the window strictly horizontally using the mounting level.

    To do this, under the window frame, where necessary, we place wooden wedges.

Photo 2 - Setting the window according to the level. Use of wooden wedges

  • We fix the top anchors, and then the side ones.
  • Having strengthened the external waterproofing with the help of PSUL, we fasten the ebb with a stop under the window on self-tapping screws 4 mm in diameter and 9 mm long.
  • We adjust the window fittings and put the double-glazed windows in place.
  • Foaming the gaps between the frame and the window opening is necessary only with the windows closed!

    It is forbidden to leave windows for ventilation during installation, otherwise the mounting foam will bend the profile with an arc, which will lead to cracking of the glass and damage to the window. Foaming of wide gaps (from 2 cm and more) should take place in stages with a break of 1-2 hours. After drying, the foam must be covered from ultraviolet radiation with a special sealed film, plaster or panels.

IMPORTANT! After foaming, the window must remain closed for at least another 12 hours.

  • We install a window sill.

    After taking measurements, the blank for the window sill of standard sizes is adjusted to the length and width of the window, given that the window sill should go under the window, and should also be slightly recessed into the walls on the sides.

If the measurements are correct and when trying on the window sill, the plate comes under the window a little tight, you can proceed to fix it. The window sill must also be leveled, placed on wooden wedges and fixed to the adhesive or mounting foam. In the latter case, spacers or loads are placed on the window sill for at least 12 hours so that the foam does not knock down the exposed horizon during expansion.

Photo 3 - Leveling the window sill

  • Installing window hardware.
  • We mount slopes (technologies for mounting plasterboard, plastic or plaster slopes vary).
  • We seal the joints of the window elements and clean the frame from the protective film.

Do-it-yourself installation of metal-plastic windows is also possible, however, for this you need to know about the technological details of the process or purchase metal-plastic windows, the installation of which you will be able to carry out, guided by the factory instructions.

$ Installation of plastic windows.

The cost of installing metal-plastic windows will directly depend on the type of window (deaf, hinged or combined), the type of wall opening and its condition, the installation seam, the season of installation, as well as the total amount of work. On average, this is $ 20-30 per m².

The estimate for the installation of metal-plastic windows should contain the entire list of works: delivery, lifting to the floor, dismantling of old windows, garbage removal, installation of windows, ebbs, window sills, slopes, etc.

  • Kyiv - from 350 UAH.

    for the installation package;

  • Moscow - from 4,100 rubles. for the assembly package.

Shrinkage is a natural and inevitable process for all wooden structures. In this regard, the installation of plastic windows in log houses differs from the standard installation.

The highest percentage of wood drying was noted in the first two years after the completion of the construction of the log house. The height of the walls, as a rule, is reduced to 1.5 cm per meter of masonry. How to insert a plastic window in a wooden house?

What devices are needed to achieve the goal? The answers to these and many other questions are presented in this article.

siege

The main stage of installing double-glazed windows in a wooden house is fixing the pigtail in the window opening. Casing ensures the independence of windows from the bearing walls of the structure.

In other words, when the log house shrinks, the window structure remains “inviolable” and is not subjected to deformation vibrations. The pigtail takes on all shrinkage loads and strengthens the walls of the building in the area of the opening.

The casing is a box made of thick boards. Install it in the opening, after which the installation of PVC structures is performed.

The box is held with the help of grooves located in the side racks. It is unacceptable to use any fasteners, including mounting foam. Above the structure itself, a compensating gap is left, designed for the maximum amount of shrinkage of the logs.

There are several options for installing a pigtail:

  • cutting a groove in a log and laying a wooden block in it. Self-tapping screws (embedded bar) are screwed into the last of these elements through the side racks;
  • sawing a spike at the end of the opening log and cutting a groove in the side posts of the box (the "into the deck" method);
  • the location of the spike on the side posts of the structure, the groove - at the end of the opening logs.

Preparation of window openings

It is quite possible to qualitatively install plastic windows in an old wooden house with your own hands.

How to install plastic windows in a wooden house

The main installation rules are to follow the sequence of actions and take into account the features of the building.

To begin with, measure the distance of the window from the base of the floor. The most optimal parameter is 80-90 cm. Ideally, the window sill is installed above the desk, the standard height of which is 80 cm. The marking of the upper and lower boundaries of the window opening is performed using a professional tool - a water level.

Its height should exceed by 13 cm the same parameter of the inserted plastic window, and its width by 12-14 cm. Plus, 1.5 cm is left on each side for sealing with mounting foam.

The next stage is the preparation of the window opening (measurements, installation). With the help of the building level, markup is made for its cut. Maximum accuracy in measurements and in the installation of the casing itself is especially important. It is on this that the quality of the installation work will depend. After the opening is ready, a spike is cut out at the ends of the logs on the sides of the structure.

The lower and side parts of the draft window are sheathed with jute.

Casing is made from well-dried wooden bars, the installation of which is carried out starting from the windowsill. The structural elements are fastened together with self-tapping screws, and the docking areas are treated with a sealant. A small gap in the pigtails is filled with tow.

Installation of PVC windows

The finished window is installed, either perfectly aligned along the front edge, or slightly deepened into the interior of the house.

The frame is fixed to the previously fixed structure with self-tapping screws, having previously drilled holes for them. Double-glazed windows can be inserted into a wooden house (not from a bar), taking into account all the details. It is not only about the accuracy of marking and the choice of high-quality material for casing, but also the correct selection of fasteners for fixing the window.

External waterproofing of the joint can be done in various ways: vapor-permeable or self-expanding sealing tape, one-component acrylic sealant.

They will protect the mounting foam from moisture and direct sunlight. From the inside, the seam is closed with a vapor barrier tape. Glue it until foaming to the end of the frame with a thin strip. After the seam is treated with mounting foam, the protective paper is removed from the adhesive strip and glued to the casing. The window sill is installed and the starting profile is screwed to the edge of the frame before the sealing mass hardens.

Wood window installation instructions.

The main feature of installing window structures in a wooden house is that for the entire life of the frame, unlike a concrete, brick or stone house, it behaves very unstable.

In other words, wooden structures have the property of "shrinkage". And if you do not take into account this instability during installation work, serious problems can arise.

There is an opinion that the frame does not shrink until the first year after installation, and then the house does not change its parameters.

How to install PVC windows in a wooden house

But it is not so. In fact, a wooden house is standing, this is especially noticeable in the first year, and then, for at least 5 years, this process does not stop (and in some regions, depending on weather conditions, the log continues to decrease throughout life).

Because the timber (timber or logs) has dried out, the wall height of the house for every meter of wall can decrease by 1.5 cm. If the wall height is 4 meters, the frame can be "shrink" by as much as 6 inches. And now I imagine what will happen to the window if you leave only the standard gap for installing foam plastic 2-2.5 centimeters thick? It is correct that the frame is at least deformed and the wedge will be pinched.

However, installing metallic glass windows in a hall is a very viable task.

However, only on condition that the opening is installed by an observer (or, as it is called, it is an okosyachka system), which will ensure independence from the window by building the envelopes (walls) of the house and taking care of all the loads. In this case, the window:

  • Don't let magazines move out of the window's vertical opening;
  • does not interfere with the vertical deviation of the walls;
  • reinforces closed structures in the area of window openings.

In order to have an idea of how the window is installed in the hallway, we have prepared detailed instructions that describe all the stages of the installation work.

First, let's see what a hull is and what settings the system is currently using.

Basic housing options (end)

The simplest design is wood obsessed with 50x50 cm, inserted into a vertical groove of the same size, the end of the log in the window. This version of the window is used only when installing wooden windows. And since we are thinking about installing a PVC window in a log cabin, we should not carefully consider this option.

In the second version of the window, a tip (so-called comb) is made at the ends of the magazine, on which a gun holder with grooves is mounted.

Window hinges - vertical beam size from 150 to 100 centimeters, excluded at the ends of the grooves 50 50, which are inserted into the plate from 150 to 50 in size with spikes at the ends (horizontal bridges).

Because of the log log, when the compression of the house slips into the groove, do not press on the structure of the windows and do not tilt vertically.

Sometimes the tip is made on a trolley, but the groove is in the logs, while the basic working principle of this version of the body is not changed.

Be careful!

When assembled, the window should be 7-8 centimeters higher than the window opening (such a line remains to be shaken in the house).

Instructions for installing plastic windows in the corridor

The window is set up like this:

  • The bottom of the case is located in the hole
  • combs are packed in packed bags (intermediate insulation)
  • on the window frames ridge filled
  • In the upper holes, the upper bridge is inserted and lowered into the troughs.

The whole structure is fixed with screws.

In this case, you need to make sure that the screws do not "lock" the comb, otherwise the case will not be useful. The cracks between the logs and the casing are filled in hell. By the way, the curtain not only insulates holes, but also saves you from debris when the house shrinks.

Further installation of metal-plastic windows in a wooden house practically does not differ from the usual installation of window structures in an apartment. In other words, the usual window installation is carried out in accordance with fumes, noise and thermal insulation, a detailed description of which can be found in the article "Features of installing windows with your own hands."

The range that remains between the walls of the frame and the windows is filled with small thicknesses, which are pre-wrapped with a stick.

Since the house is sitting, the slabs need to be replaced with others that are more suitable. In order to easily change panels, the panel on which the panels are installed is attached to the window only. So when it needs to be replaced, just remove the piston, change the boards and put the clipper back in place.

An experienced specialist should know not only the technology of installing metal-plastic windows, but also the technology of building a house.

Only in this case, he will not be able to correctly determine whether the window structure can be installed in each individual case, but also, if necessary, install the classic case in the hole.

If your obsady bunker role is wearing a box that was left over from old wooden windows (in other words, when you removed the lining to most accurately measure the hole, they found that okosyachki didn't), then installing plastic windows has two options:

changing window windows under the window;

2. Significantly reduce the transparent part of the window, because the window thickness + frame + foam slot is added to each side of the window structure.

And most importantly, never give consent to the installation of a metal plastic window in the hall without first installing the window in the hole.

Even if your house has been standing for decades, and you think that the frame is already completely “compressed”. Remember that a tree is a “living” material that “breathes” throughout life, with all the ensuing consequences.

Plastic windows are firmly fixed in modern construction. They have many positive advantages, which allows them to be used in various types of buildings, including wooden construction. But the specialty of their placement in a wooden house is different from the installation in classic brick buildings. So how to solve this problem? How to insert a plastic window into a wooden house?

Differences in the installation of metal-plastic windows in wooden houses

The main connotation of installing plastic windows in wooden structures is that the wood structure is greatly reduced after erection due to the drying of the material.

Yes, and with the further operation of various types of movements, they are possible.

Depending on the material of the building, shrinkage per meter of the height of the house is associated with such indicators.

But in general, the movement can be up to 300 millimeters.

Therefore, all builders advise not to carry out finishing work in the first year of building a wooden house. Inserted in accordance with generally accepted requirements, windows simply deform under such pressure. But what to do, do not leave the same house without windows, the more seasonal changes continue, depending on the humidity and ambient temperature.

The first step is to do some preparatory work.

If the house has just been built, it is necessary to remove construction dust and debris, take measurements and draw a drawing of the future installation of the window system. An old wooden house requires the following preparation:

  • Dismantling (destruction of old windows).
  • Removal of leftovers and leftovers.
  • Measurements and calculations of the parameters of the next window.
  • Restoration of the condition of load-bearing wooden structures, trimming of opening windows (there should be no rotting and mold.

    The cleaned places are removed and the wood set is puttied).

  • The choice of manufacturer and the order of window systems.

What do you need to install windows

You need tools to replace or install windows.

  • Electric drill with a series of drilling.
  • Construction level and roulette.
  • Chisels.
  • Mallet.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Wedge wedges.
  • Fasteners (plates, screws).
  • Foam collection.

It is also advisable to invite a partner because the windows are very difficult to insert on their own due to the size and weight of the insulating glass.

Frame.

What is it, its type and design features

In order to protect the window from the walls, it is necessary to plan and install the so-called floating base, in which the double-glazed window frame is installed - the casing. In particular, its presence is important for the veranda, where the length of the window system can reach several meters.

You can place wooden planks with an important hole.

Structurally, it looks like there are plates on the periphery of the aperture. The body is fixed with grooves, at points such as pads, patch or other natural fibers, they cannot be sealed with foam. During installation, the gap is always at the top.

By using such a design, built-in double glazing will be protected from shrinkage effects.

The way of fastening the case is divided into the following types:

  • Fastener in the tip.

    On the sides of the body, place thorns that are inserted into the grooves of the holes.

  • In a built-in beam. At the end of the window aperture, insert the rod to which the stand is attached.
  • In rooftops. The ends of the window hole logs provide tips and grooves on the body.

The main thing when installing such a system is to ensure the accuracy of the installation, incorrect accounts will be overloaded with deformations and inapplicability of such a system.

The design of the floating body reliably protects against mechanical impacts when the wall is moved due to shrinkage processes.

How to make a casing (window)

There are two production methods. It's just the exact groove system described above. The technology for manufacturing a complex window is different.

A comb is inserted into the open window, into which the gutter system is inserted.

This fixation is much safer, as the case can slide and compensate for wall pressure.

For this, a wooden beam is used, in which the intestine is cut with a chisel (about 5 mm deep).

On the window cut with a saw, cut out the ridge of the ridge in sizes corresponding to the grooves. From the end faces, a slot and a tip are formed, which make up the entire system.

After preparation, the entire window system is installed in a window with longitudinal grooves. Wooden nails are used to connect the elements of the hull.

Assemble the window, go directly to the installation of the plastic window.

Installing a window in a hole

Before installing, I open windows with open windows.

To do this, turn and pull the top pin.

Gaps are necessarily created at a height of 40 millimeters, at the bottom 30-40, on the sides up to 20 mm. Then fill them with building foam. To do this, wooden frames are installed under the window frame.

You can set the frame in two ways.

Option 1.

Drill holes through the frame from the ends and attach them to the screws. However, this method is burdened by a reduction in the tightness of the window system and therefore a decrease in thermal insulation. Use it only if it cannot be determined in any other way!

Another variant. Attach the mounting plates (sold as a profile skeleton mounting panel) to the outer edges of the frame.

The free edges of the plates are bent to contact the window surface and attach to the press.

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic windows in a wooden house

In no case is it forced into the ridge on which the housing is attached.

In this case, it is necessary to strictly monitor the level of the frame in all planes. You cannot pin a window if one of the options is violated!

After fixing the frame, the hinges are hinged and the wings hang.

When the foam dries, you must take care to protect it from the harmful effects of ultraviolet light and temperature.

Plastic window cladding in a wooden house is a great option, but it can be made from wood.

And don't forget the swelling that protects the window and walls from excessive moisture.

The process of installing PVC windows in a wooden house requires precision and compliance with technologies, in case of violation of which double-glazed windows do not provide the necessary time. Taking into account the installation rules, the service life of plastic windows in old houses is increased by several decades.

Instructions for installing a plastic window in a wooden house with a photo and

Many people think that installing a plastic window in a wooden house is a very difficult job.

This is because wooden houses eventually become natural shrinkage. But if you know the characteristics of housing and follow certain rules, nothing is really possible.

What to Consider When Installing

The configuration of window openings in wooden structures, although imperceptibly, is constantly changing throughout its life.

This is due not only to the shrinkage of wood, but also to its ability to saturate moisture when deformed when the temperature changes. Therefore, instability is characterized by the parameters of holes in such structures.

The recommendation that the installation of plastic windows can be carried out within 3 years after the construction of a wooden building is not entirely correct. Shrinkage occurs in stages. Most of the moisture evaporates in the first year, but the "shrinkage" process continues for many years.

Experts note that this period averages 5 years, in some regions (taking into account the climate) it never ends. This sets special requirements for constructing a structural element, such as a window, which is installed when window frames are installed.

Installation Order

If the house is new, you need to check the geometry of the window opening.

Even if all dimensions were strictly maintained during construction, shrinkage distortion may occur.

PVC windows - no. The rectangle is strictly formed without any deviations. Therefore, the correct configuration of window openings must be achieved (if movement is sensitive). The methods are numerous and simple.

The same applies to a house that is already in use. After removing the pre-installed window, the installation window of the plastic window is checked.

It is necessary not only to clean everything from dirt to the level, but also to produce high-quality wood processing using antiseptic and non-combustible compounds.

Housing (housing) mounting

This structural element is located in the opening of the window, regardless of the material from which the frame (window part) is formed.

In this context, it is attached. The task of the hull is to exclude the influence of the deformation of the walls of the house on the window, that it is “independent” of various movements and the resulting mechanical loads in order to maintain its integrity.

How to install plastic windows in a wooden house

In other words, no matter how the aperture geometry changes (wall compression, mud base), it should not affect the structure itself.

There are several body options.

The choice of the optimal dependence depends on the type of pillows (shaft, log), their characteristics and many other conditions. By the way, not all windows are suitable for PVC windows, which should be considered.

The “mounting” of the casing should be less than the opening of the window to prevent its destruction due to vertical displacements of the wall elements. Let's take as an example the simplest and therefore frequently used version of the window, which is suitable for "plastic".

Each owner chooses the necessary tool himself. The main thing is to understand the principle of consent and action.

At the ends of the side walls of the hole, it is solved vertically, along the entire height of the recess (groove). According to his forecasts, he will be inserted into the wagons, which are cut into (hole-sized) thick slabs, along the center line, from which the "spike".

For vertical wall movements, the projection will slide along the "groove" and the deformation body (and thus the window) will not be exposed.

Alternatively, the "tips" are made at the end of the beams (logs) and the grooves are sawn in the cart. But the principle of operation is the same.

The lower part (support part) is made in such a way that it has "tips" on both sides, which are inserted into the grooves on the side walls of the hole.

By analogy, the top of the frame is also located. Its fastening in one design is made with the help of screws, knives. The main thing is that the case is not attached to the wall, and then the feeling of its installation is lost.

Window setting

PVC frames have special fasteners with which they are attached to the window.

When buying window units, you need to understand (at the point of sale) how this is done, since different manufacturers of fasteners may differ.

When determining the window in the field, it is necessary to slightly raise and fix this position (break), create a small difference (for further "penny").

sealing

All gaps between the block and the window window are fixed with mounting foam.

And their processing is carried out on both sides (inside and outside the building). After the final drying, the excess can be cut off.

  • "Plastic" is very sensitive to low temperatures - it becomes brittle.

    Therefore, installation of such products at -10°C or less is not possible.

  • There is no point in buying PVC windows if there is no casing on all the openings. It is their geometry that determines the size of the plastic blocks. This article describes all the rules for choosing a quality window - reading.
  • The dimensions of the "thorn" ("groove") are usually selected at a height of 5 cm.
  • It should be noted that it destroys the foam installation with ultraviolet, so this "overflow" must be protected in some way.
