Do-it-yourself shell scheme. A simple do-it-yourself crayfish

Fans of drinking beer with delicious boiled crayfish are unlikely to refuse to learn how to make crayfish with their own hands at home.

Moreover, the cost of this classic beer snack has never been small.

In addition, among experienced fishermen, the use of a crayfish is considered the most effective fishing option, since otherwise, in order to pull a biting arthropod out of a hole, you will have to catch it by diving deep into the water.

Usually crayfish hunting takes place from June to November, and if you follow the tips below on how to make a crayfish with your own hands, then this season you will have time to enjoy your favorite dish.

Below in the article will be considered various types of crayfish.

The scheme by which a plastic bottle is made from a plastic bottle can be used both at home and in an emergency.

Just imagine yourself on vacation near a river in which crayfish are found. People catch full buckets, but you don’t have a crayfish and you have nothing to catch.

This is where the knowledge of how to make a crayfish from improvised means comes in handy.

For work you will need:

  • Plastic bottles (2 pcs of 5 l; 1 pc of 1.0 l).
  • Fishing line 3 mm and awl;
  • Stationery knife.

We make blanks for crayfish from plastic bottles:

  • We make a cylinder from a 1.0 liter bottle, for this we cut off its neck and bottom. Plastic will be easier to cut if you heat the blade of the knife over the fire;
  • Next, we work with 5 liter containers. At the first, we cut off the bottom and the neck according to the same principle; at the second - we cut off the neck, but do not touch the bottom. In this case, the neck of the first bottle must be cut in such a way that the diameter obtained at the outlet corresponds to the diameter of the cylinder made from a liter bottle. In order not to make a mistake with the dimensions, before cutting on the neck of a 5-liter container, you can make marks using a ready-made cylinder.

Gathering pieces together:

  • With the help of an awl from above, around the circumference, we make holes in the liter cylinder with an interval of 1.5 cm. In the process of work, you can put a wooden rail under the plastic;
  • Carry out the same actions with other cut edges of the containers;
  • Using a piece of fishing line, we alternately thread it through the holes between the liter and 5 liter bottles. As a result, you should get that the place of the neck of a 5-liter container was taken by a firmly sewn cylinder;
  • To the resulting design, to the cut edges of a large bottle, we sew a second five-liter bottle with a fishing line;
  • We tousle the edges of the liter cylinder and bend them inward, as a result of which the arthropod can fall into the trap, and the fluffy strips of plastic will not release it back;
  • Further, throughout the structure, with the help of a knife, we make holes 1x1 cm, due to which the crayfish will draw water and drown more easily;
  • We pass a long rope through the holes, so that it enters from one side of the structure, but not through a liter cylinder, and exits from the other side. Tie the short end of the rope to the long end.

Everything, the shell is ready.

As you know, crayfish feed on carrion, so just before catching them, bait is placed inside the crayfish in the form of a piece of rotten meat.

Rakolovka from nylon mesh - inkwell

You can make the following type of shell yourself using:

  • kapron fine mesh;
  • kapron thread;
  • wire cutters;
  • wire, with a thickness of 5 mm.

This design for the crayfish is made in several stages, after which you can safely go to catch crayfish.

By the way, the bait is prepared for them in advance, but more on that later.

Step-by-step instructions for making a crawfish:

  • Make two rings of wire. The first, main, should have a diameter of 35-60 cm; the second - for the upper part of the construction of the shell, with a diameter of 15-20 cm;
  • Wrap the main ring with a fine mesh nylon mesh by winding it to a metal thread. In this case, the thread must pass through the ring with an interval of at least 2 cm;
  • In the next step, prepare three pieces of wire that will be used as spacers. They will serve as a support for the main and small rings and at the same time maintain the shape of the structure. Without spacers, after lowering into the water, the shell you made will simply fold.
    The wire should have a length of 15-20 cm. With one end, it is alternately fixed with wire cutters to the main ring, and the second - to the small, upper one;
  • Cover the resulting structure, including the upper rim, with the edges of the mesh, walk around the rim and holes in the mesh with a nylon thread. Attach a handle to the finished rachevna.

As a result, you will get an open top shell. It is lowered to the bottom with a long rope.

Rakolovka from a rolled metal mesh

This type of shell can be done by hand using a metal mesh. Such a product is much more durable and every professional angler has it.

To work, you will need the following types of materials and tools:

  • metal mesh, roll 1 m wide;
  • wire for fastening;
  • metal scissors;
  • kapron threads, ruler;
  • protective gloves.

We create a cage based on a metal mesh:

  • We take a piece of mesh 80 cm long. As a result, the material with which we will have to work will receive parameters of 80x100 cm;
  • We fold the grid into a cylinder shape so that most of it becomes a height. Between themselves, the edges of the grid are fixed with wire;
  • Determine the size of the cylinder. Its diameter, as a rule, should correspond to 25 cm;
  • Now from the same material we cut out a semicircle (radius 25 cm). We set aside with a ruler, from a point of radius a segment of 5 cm, form a circle with a radius of 5 cm, cut it out with scissors. The result should be a cone with a cropped top. We fix its edges together with a wire;
  • We install the cone with the pointed part inside the cylinder. The edges of the cone and the edges of the cylinder are also fastened with wire. On the other side of the shell, the same cone with a truncated top is installed;
  • Then we will make a hole through which it will be possible to put the bait into the cradle and, accordingly, get the prey. In the center of the metal cylinder we mark a rectangle 15 by 20 cm, we bite the wire with wire cutters from three sides. It turns out a kind of door. After the bait is placed in the cradle, the door is fixed in the incised places with wire;
  • Finally, we tie a long rope along the edges of the shell. Now you can go to catch crayfish.

What should be the bait for crayfish

Before you go catching crayfish, you need to find out more about what kind of smell the bait should have, since it is it that serves as the key to a big catch.

Oddly enough, in addition to rotten meat, crayfish willingly go for rye bread with garlic.

Unpeeled garlic is pre-crushed and pressed into the crumb, and so that the bait does not sag longer, it is placed in a nylon stocking.

You can also twist the bread with garlic into a meat grinder, and distribute the resulting mixture in portions over gauze bags.

Crayfish have an unusually strong sense of smell, and they are too fond of the smell of garlic, so you can put more of it.

Some rakolov refute the information that the bait in the form of rotten meat or fish is the most effective. On the contrary, it is good to catch crayfish on fresh products, pre-cut into pieces.

If you plan to catch prey for fish, it is recommended to use roach or bream as bait.

For the meat of predatory fish - pike and perch - cancer, for some reason, is reluctant. The fish is cut in advance along the ridge, the meat is turned out to enhance the smell.

According to cancer experts, crayfish living in separate reservoirs have their own diet. Therefore, their preference for different baits is determined by the method of trials.

To do this, the shells, in which bait of different types is placed, are placed at intervals of 15-20 m from each other. After that, it becomes clear what kind of food is best to catch arthropods.

Using the same sampling method, it was found out which food attracts crayfish at different times of the year.

In the spring, they use fish caught with their own hands or bought frozen as bait. It can be gobies, roach, carp.

As mentioned above, fish carcasses are cut.

Summer bait can be animal meat. During the heat period, crayfish willingly feast on the stomach, part of the head. Such bait can be purchased at the market and cut into pieces.

In autumn, when the period of cooling sets in, bread with garlic is placed in the crayfish.

How to set up and when to check crawfish

Traps for crayfish can be set both from the shore and from a boat. The second option is most often used if the approach to the reservoir is heavily overgrown with reeds and, of course, there is a boat available.

In order not to lose orientation relative to the installed crayfish, in that place on the surface of the water, a non-sinking object is tied to the rope of the trap.

Styrofoam or similar can be used as a float for a crayfish.

Placing a crayfish from the shore, they stock up on a stag - a long horned stick. The rope of the crayfish clings to the stalk, the stick is exposed from the shore, after which the signal rope descends, and the crayfish lies on the bottom of the reservoir.

This is done so that the prey does not eat all the bait. In addition, arthropods can be attracted by a kindled fire, it is good to place traps along the line of its reflection in the water.

In addition, at night, crayfish come to the shore of the reservoir, so they can be easily collected with a flashlight.

Many people like to eat boiled crayfish meat, but not everyone knows how to catch them. It is not always convenient to catch a net, so it will be easiest to make a simple trap from which crayfish will definitely not be able to get out.

The videos below will help you understand the process of creating a trap from improvised materials.

For work we need:
- metal mesh with a cell of 6mm;
- pliers;
- metal wire;
- scissors for metal;
- marker;
- nylon thread;
- roulette;
- cutters.

Having prepared all the materials, we get to work.
We measure 80 cm from the grid, with a width of 1 m. We make a mark with a marker and cut it off with scissors for metal.

After that, the cut piece is twisted into a tube. We connect the edges of the grid by inserting the edges of the cells suddenly into each other and bending the metal tips.

Now we need to take a metal wire and cut off a small piece from it, about 10 cm, and use it to make a more secure fastening of the edges of the grid. Cut off excess wire ends. Make the distance between the wire fasteners 5-7 cm.

The protruding sharp edges of the mesh can either be bent or bitten off.

Our preparation is ready. Now you need to measure the diameter of the resulting circle and mark the same distance on a new piece of mesh. We draw a semicircle with a marked diameter. Cut it out with metal scissors. Mark the center of the straight part of the semicircle. From the mark we measure 5 cm in each direction and outline another semicircle, cut it out.

Now we need to connect the two edges of our semicircle. It turns out something like a cone. We fasten the edges with wire. We insert our cone into the blank of the trap body and fasten the edges with wire along the entire perimeter.

We perform exactly the same actions for the second side of our crayfish trap. Do not forget to bite off or bend the protruding edges of the mesh.

The next step we need to make a window through which we will get the crayfish and put the bait. To do this, draw a small square approximately in the middle with a marker. We cut out three of its sides with the help of wire cutters, then simply bending the window.

How to make a do-it-yourself crayfish?

Table of contents:

Almost everyone loves boiled crayfish. They can be eaten just like that, boiled in salt water with dill. And you can use it with beer. It cannot be said that crayfish is a cheap product. For this reason, many go to the reservoir to get these bottom dwellers of rivers and lakes on their own.

Crayfish are caught in several ways. Some put on a mask and comb the most promising areas of the reservoirs at the bottom. Others simply walk around at night with a flashlight and explore the coastal zone in the hope of finding crayfish that crawled as close as possible to the coast. But there is another effective method of catching crayfish, using special devices - crayfish. You can buy them in the store, or you can make your own. In this article, we will take a closer look at how to make homemade crayfish from improvised means. Consider the simplest ways to spend a minimum of materials, and to get effective traps for crayfish.

Rakolovka from five-liter plastic bottles

Homemade crayfish can be made from ordinary plastic bottles with a capacity of 5 liters for water. We need two bottles:

We also need a medium sized kitchen knife. With it, we cut the bottom of the bottles. We lay the container on the ground and carefully cut off the bottom.

You should get something like this:

After that, we cut off the upper part on two containers:

To cut evenly, you can pre-draw stripes with a marker. Having cut off the tops on two bottles, we get the following two cylinders:

We will also get two such covers:

Disconnect the handles and set them aside. We won't need them anymore. The next step is to connect the two cylinders. We insert one into one and get a plastic pipe:

During the fastening of the two halves, we make sure that the edges are not bent or damaged, so that the connection is neat and tight. Thus, we have practically formed the dimensions of the crayfish. Its length will be approximately 50 cm.

The distance between the holes is approximately 5-6 cm. Having made a certain number of holes in a circle, you need to take the wire and thread it through them. Any wire with a small cross section will do. We pass the wire in the same way as when sewing together pieces of fabric, without missing a single hole:

We should get these seams around the entire circumference of the workpiece:

Then we take the cut out neck and insert it with the back side to get the following design:

In the same way as in the first case, we make holes in a circle at the junction of the walls of the top and cylinder and sew them together to make a reliable connection.

On the opposite side we do the same. As a result, we get this product:

The scheme of the plastic bottle shell is very simple. It does not require further explanation. We place food and cargo inside it so that it does not blow away. It can be fish meat or worms, or rotten meat. Cancer passes through one or the second hole, but can no longer get out.

You can make more voluminous crayfish from 3 or more containers. You can also cut a wider neck so that large crayfish can crawl inside the trap without any problems. If we place the crayfish for a day, then it is better to make holes on the side so that oxygen enters.

Such a crayfish can be done directly on a fishing trip. You can find plastic containers if you walk along the shore. Many vacationers leave behind garbage, including similar containers. You can connect the elements, albeit not so beautifully, using an ordinary rope or a thick fishing line. The holes are punched with an awl or a nail.

Rakolovka from construction mesh

Another option for making a shell is from a construction mesh. The scheme of this shell is identical to the previous one. Only it will have more volume. We will need a metal mesh with a 1 cm cell. You can use it with a smaller cell, but its price will be more expensive.

Of the tools and materials we need:

  • Metal shears
  • Roulette
  • Marker
  • Pliers
  • Rope kapron
  • metal wire

The width of the mesh is 1 meter, the length is 80 cm. We cut off a segment of the mesh to the desired length and twist it into a cylinder:

Before this operation, it is necessary to process the edges with a file in the places of cutting with metal scissors. Otherwise, you can cut yourself.

The next stage is to close the ends of the cylinder and connect them to start with the ends of the wire, which were formed after cutting off part of the mesh with scissors. We connect the cylinder from two ends:

It should look something like this:

The next step is to take the wire and cut off pieces 4-5 cm long. Next, we thread it at the junction of the ends and twist the wire with pliers to get a reliable connection:

We make such twists along the entire length of our future shell with a step of 8-10 cm.

Having completed this operation, we measure the diameter of the circle at one of the ends. Naturally, the sizes of the circles must match. In our case, it turned out 25 cm.

After that, draw a semicircle using a tape measure. Next, take the scissors for metal and carefully cut out a semicircle.

Mark the middle with a marker:

We measure 5 cm from the middle and draw another small semicircle. This will give us a cell through which the crayfish will crawl into the trap.

Then we cut this small semicircle along the kennel and get this blank:

After that, we make such a cropped cone out of it:

We insert the resulting workpiece into one end of the cylinder.

We make sure that we correctly calculated the size of the crawfish. We make the same cone for the second end of the shell. After that, we carefully thread the wire around the entire circumference and, as it were, sew two figures. As a result, we should get the following structure:

To cast over a long distance, we tie a nylon rope to the crayfish. If it is not there, then you can tie the wire that is used in the wiring. Inside it we place rotten meat or fish. For stability, do not forget to place a load in the middle. Stones of suitable diameter will fit. For easy extraction of goods, it is better to make a small window on the side of the trap by cutting it with metal scissors. You can fasten it at two points with wire.

Summer bait can be animal meat. During the heat period, crayfish willingly feast on the stomach, part of the head or liver.

Cancer is not a fish, and there are not so many ways to catch it. You can catch a crayfish with a bait only by chance, walk in shallow water, turn over stones and snags chilly - crayfish love clean, running, cold water, rocky bottom, separately flooded snags and other natural obstacles. For this, a shellfish was invented.

These chitinous representatives of the benthic fauna are active almost all year round. You can lure them even in winter, if you correctly guess their habitat in this reservoir. But the best time is from mid-June, when crayfish finish molting, spawning, and until December. Then they climb into their holes and practically do not leave them until spring.

The place of installation of the crayfish must also be chosen, based on the bottom topography, current and other nuances. Crayfish do not like open places; they rarely crawl out onto the sand. But a quiet backwater, thickets of reeds or a bottom dotted with stones, snags - this is their element. There is where to hide, and the current does not carry away potential prey. After all, crayfish mainly feed on dead fish and frogs, but they will not refuse a mollusk, snail and drowned bird either. They find food thanks to a well-developed sense of smell. They can crawl to the bait they are interested in from a fairly large space.

Crayfish design

A folding cage of a closed type has several useful properties at once:

  • ease of manufacture;
  • ease of use;
  • catchability;
  • convenience in transportation.

The shells are divided into two types:

  • open;
  • closed.

When fishing with open traps, the crayfish must be pulled out of the water and checked at least once an hour, because crayfish are just as easy to get out of it as they are to get in. But it is very difficult for crayfish to get out of a closed-type crayfish, therefore they are placed mainly in the evening, and they are checked only in the morning.

What bait to use?

However, there is no point in throwing an empty trap to the bottom, regardless of its design. If you do not put an odorous, interesting bait for crayfish, they can crawl right along it, but they won’t even look inside. The principle of catching is based on making the crayfish crawl into the trap. The most commonly used bait is:

  • small fish or pieces of fish;
  • dead frogs;
  • open shellfish;
  • cake;
  • a crust of bread, rubbed with garlic;
  • porridge with the addition of an attractant.

Spring

In the spring, after leaving their wintering burrows, crayfish will happily eat fish, preferring bream, crucian carp or goby. Do not refuse from the purchase. Only, before placing the bait in the cradle, it is recommended to dry it a little and make a few cuts, so it will smell even stronger.

Summer

Due to the abundance of food during the summer months, crayfish stop traveling long distances and prefer to stay in one place. But, if cancer learns some delicacy, he is ready to go even on a very long journey to diversify his diet. Best of all, as such a delicacy, animals or bird giblets act on cancer at this time. This concept includes not only the insides, but also other parts of the carcass (skin, ears, pork cheeks, and so on) and even small pieces of meat. And again, before use, you should hold them in the sun for a couple of hours, achieving a natural attractive aroma. But wait until the bait is completely rotten is not worth it.

Autumn

With the approach of cold weather, crayfish tend to eat for the future and are ready to grab any food that turns up. During this active period, they can be lured by almost any strong smell, but garlic works best. A small piece of rye bread is strongly rubbed with a head of garlic. Even better if you pass them together through a meat grinder. This type of bait is placed wrapped in gauze into the rakolovka. If this is not done, the bread will swell and simply wash out of the trap.

Other types of bait also work flawlessly. And meat, and poultry, and fish, and even cereals sprinkled with an odorous attractant.

Winter

From mid-December until about mid-March, it is difficult to catch crayfish, but it is quite possible. The main thing is to know well the bottom topography and their wintering grounds. Crayfish get out of their holes, because they do not fall into hibernation, but they need to eat something. However, cold water carries odors very poorly. That is why you need to know exactly where to put the trap. The bait for crayfish in winter is mainly meat and offal, but fresh fish, cut into small strips, is also suitable.

The big inconvenience is that you need to cut a hole in the ice that is not small so that the trap can freely pass into it. And since they put it mainly from evening to morning, care must be taken that it does not freeze. To do this, you can put spruce branches or straw on top.

Homemade crayfish

Making a do-it-yourself rakolovka at home is absolutely not difficult. To do this, you need to choose the right material. Some craftsmen can make this trap even from a plastic bottle directly on the shore with a sharp knife and a few pieces of rope, but the size of such a trap cannot provide a large catch. So it's worth spending a few hours and making a quality trap that will last more than one season.

To make a regular open shell you will need:

  • soft steel wire;
  • fine nylon or metal mesh;
  • kapron thread;
  • rope.

Two rings are bent from the wire. One with a diameter of 50-70 cm, the second - 20 cm. The rings are connected to each other by three symmetrically located spacers from the same wire. As a result of this, it turns out that the upper ring is rigidly fixed, the trap will not fold, turning into a flat pancake, where the crayfish can not get in any way. A wide ring is installed in the center of the grid, with the help of nylon threads it is tied to it. Then the mesh, gently straightening, is tied to the upper ring. A rope is attached to it, along which the shell will be lowered to the bottom and raised.

It is somewhat more difficult to make a closed type shell, but the set of materials remains the same. Wide rings this time will have to cook not one, but three pieces. And the little one will remain the same. But if two entrances are provided, located at two ends, then two such rings are needed. Spacers in the second case will also need twice as much. A design feature that ensures efficiency is that the small inlet ring is located inside the large one. A kind of neck is formed, along which the crayfish crawl inside the crayfish, but they can no longer get out.

Lure mount

If you just put pieces of meat inside, bread wrapped in gauze with garlic, offal, they can simply fall out during the installation of the crayfish. There are many ways to secure the bait in the trap. You can simply tie it with the same nylon thread or elastic right to the center of the grid. But some anglers, already during the design of the trap, make a special pocket of nylon mesh, where they place the prepared odorous bait before installation. The pocket should be located in the middle of the side that will lie on the bottom.

Tactics and technique of fishing on the rakolovka

You should choose the right place where crayfish are found, and put the crayfish in the late afternoon, because arthropods prefer to go out to feed at night. Cloudy weather sometimes confuses them: when there is no bright sun, it can also bring good results. But the main catch is still nocturnal.

The technique is reduced to the correct setting of the trap in the chosen place. This can be done both from the shore and from the boat.

If near the shore there is a sharp drop in depth or other obstacles that prevent entering the water, a long but strong stick with a slingshot-like end is taken. This slingshot clings to a rope tied to a trap, gradually the crayfish is taken out to a chosen promising place. Then, easing the rope, the trap is slowly lowered to the bottom. It is better to tie the other end of the rope to something on the shore. Crayfish, even in large numbers, are unlikely to carry off the crayfish, but such a precaution will never be superfluous. Such casting requires some skills, so it is better to have a partner.

Installation is even easier from a boat. Having sailed to the chosen catchy place, the trap is carefully lowered to the bottom, and a float from a piece of foam plastic or an ordinary plastic bottle is tied to the end of the rope.

An open crawfish is checked about once an hour. This should be done carefully, trying not to stir up the water. Closed, leave for several hours, often until the next morning.

You don't need to put in a lot of bait. Especially if the design provides for a nylon pocket. The goal is to lure the crayfish, not feed them. One small fish, a piece of meat or offal, a slice of rye bread with garlic is enough. Strongly rotten fish or meat should also not be put. It is believed that crayfish love it, in fact, this opinion is erroneous. If arthropods have a choice between rotten meat and fresh, they will choose the latter.

Crayfish ban

In some regions of our country there is a seasonal ban on catching freshwater crayfish. Its terms are set by the regional authorities responsible for ecology, fishing and hunting. Somewhere it is almost the whole year, so only the autumn months are allotted for fishing. Somewhere just a couple of spring months. This ban is introduced in connection with the deposition of eggs by arthropods, during which they molt. Spawning and molting begin in early May and continue until mid-June. It was during this period that catching cancer is prohibited almost everywhere.

Crayfish meat is very tasty, but it is more of a delicacy snack for a certain type of drink than food in the full sense of the word. But catching crayfish is an activity that gives pleasure not only from the catch, but also from communicating with nature, spending time in good company, and good mood.
