Together with the charitable foundation "Old Age in Joy", the most necessary assistance was provided to more than a thousand elderly people in 9 regions of Russia. The idea of the project was born from many years of experience in supporting several nursing homes in different regions of the bank's presence by volunteer employees. The last stage of the project in 2012 took place on December 8, when the bank's volunteers visited sponsored nursing homes, social institutions and elderly people living alone.

The Joy of Old Age Foundation helped, in a number of cases, to find nursing homes, make purchases, and organize everyday life. The project includes financial assistance to institutions where lonely elderly people live, as well as specific, targeted assistance to people. Citibank employees visited nursing homes, collected requests from those in need, brought financial assistance, communicated with the elderly and took a human part in their daily lives.

This is a great example of combining the company's corporate social responsibility and the aspirations of volunteer employees to help those in need.

"Green building" from Deutsche Bank

Deutsche Bank's new office, located in the Nordstar Tower Business Center, has received LEED Gold certification for efficient use of resources and high energy saving performance.

The Green Building project was implemented within the framework of one of Deutsche Bank's five areas of social responsibility, which is called - "sustainable development"; part of this direction is environmental protection.

Thanks to the implementation of the project, the carbon footprint has been significantly reduced, which will contribute to the improvement of the environmental situation. Thus, the bank makes a concrete investment in the social capital of society and contributes to the development of the social environment.

This office, for example, regulates the brightness of the electric light itself, depending on the presence of natural light outside the windows and the distance of the office lamps from its source. He himself absorbs noise, calculates where the sun is shining in order to open or close the blinds on the windows accordingly. Sensors on water faucets not only turn on, but also turn off the water during their use. And these are just a few of the technical achievements embodied in the office.

The LEED-winning building meets the most stringent environmental and energy conservation requirements.

Bicycle rental from the Bank of Moscow

Within the framework of the state program of the city of Moscow "Development of the transport system for 2012-2016", approved by the Decree of the Government of Moscow, the Russian capital provides for the implementation of a number of measures aimed at developing cycling infrastructure, including: and creation of parking spaces for bicycles (minimum 17,000). The first step of the Bank of Moscow within the framework of the program was a pilot project to organize free bike rental points in the capital. In the autumn of 2012, 200 foreign-made bicycles (Alpin, Stels, Author) appeared in five city parks, which everyone could rent for free, leaving a passport and a deposit of 2 thousand rubles at the rental point.

"Donor Day" from ATB

One of the most significant programs implemented by the Asian-Pacific Bank in 2012 was participation in the Donor Day, which is traditionally held throughout the country on June 14th. In the cities of presence of ATB, mobile complexes were installed in front of the building with all the conditions for comfortable and safe blood donation. The surprise for the doctors servicing the mobile complex was that three times more applicants signed up than needed to deploy a mobile blood transfusion center. Blagoveshchensk, Krasnoyarsk, Magadan, Irkutsk and Kamchatka were especially active. In Blagoveshchensk, for example, 112 people - albeit including several passers-by and clients who succumbed to a noble impulse - took part in the action. Moreover, for the first time it was put into practice, as it was, for example, in Irkutsk, the signing of an agreement on long-term cooperation with a blood transfusion station. The bank's donors motivate their participation in this program in such a way: we are young, healthy, with an active life position, and we are able to help those who need it!

Donor Day from Smolensky Bank

Employees of the Moscow branch of the Smolensk Bank act as donors, donating blood, as part of the "Donor Days" held at the bank twice a year. On this day, as a rule, in winter and summer, the doctors of the Blood Transfusion Station specially come to the main office so that employees can take part in the action without interrupting the work process for a long time.

According to doctors, each donor saves the lives of four recipients. Acceptance of applications for those wishing to take part in the action opens on the bank's internal website about a week before this event. Immediately on the day of blood donation, an express health test is carried out on the spot, upon successful completion of which, the employee becomes a donor. On Donor Day, bank employees donate a total of approximately 19 liters of blood.

"School of business" from FG "Life"

In September 2012, FG "Life" launched the "School of Life Life" project, the purpose of which is to educate citizens in the methods of transforming the urban environment towards greater environmental friendliness, convenience and comfort for every resident. “The goal of the “School of Business” is to become a space for a constructive dialogue between technologists, citizens and authorities,” is published in the project manifesto. “The dominant model of city planning, with a focus on the car, business, and super-profits, often forgets the interests of pedestrians and overlooks the issues of ecology, lack of public spaces and the development of alternative modes of transportation.”

The first events of the project were held in Tula with the participation of branches that are part of the Gazenergobank and Probusinessbank groups. The offices were transformed into venues for the preparation of events by both activists from FG "Life" and residents. After several training meetings, on September 29, targeted events were held under the general name “Life Day”, during which a frisbee tournament was organized in the Tula park, “fabulous” winterization of the park, dances, sports competitions and master classes. A free market, a free exchange of things, a big lunch (neighbors treated each other to the autumn harvest), master classes for children and adults, a design community work day, a cinema and street art were arranged in the courtyard of the house. In Yasnaya Polyana, lectures on urban studies were given for those who wished.

Bright people from ICD

In August 2012 in the Park of Culture and Leisure. Gorky hosted the children's creative festival "Bright People", which was organized by the IBC in honor of its 20th anniversary. The Bank decided to celebrate the event in an unconventional way: it turned the corporate holiday into a large-scale city-wide event.

At the festival, children and adults participated in numerous creative workshops, and a carnival performance was held on the embankment and other areas of the park, in which more than 400 artists took part. 3D graffiti artist Edgar Müller, who is one of the three most famous artists in the world, has created a grandiose 3D illusion. In continuation, the Australian troupe Strange Fruit performed, combining theater, dance and circus art in their performances. When it got dark, the guests of the festival saw a brilliant balancing act from the Argentine-Spanish band Grupo Puja.

Football Academy from Zapadny Bank

Contributing to the promotion of sports and a healthy lifestyle among the younger generation, Zapadny Bank has been supporting the children's Football Academy in Voronezh for two years now. The work is carried out in two directions. The first is the regular financial assistance of the bank, which is aimed at paying for the education of children from low-income families, the manufacture of sports uniforms, the purchase of equipment and the solution of other problems of the Academy. The second direction is to attract, as philanthropists and sponsors of the Academy, various commercial organizations and individuals from among the partners and clients of the bank.

"Sparta" from Master-Bank

Master-Bank became a sponsor of the Sparta football club in August 2012. By itself, the project is extremely interesting. The players of the football club "Sparta" are young and ambitious guys, players of backyard teams, whose dream is big football. On the example of the Sparta club, the path of a football player from the third division to the Premier League and the Champions League is traced. Andrey Tikhonov was invited to train the guys, and Dmitry Khlestov and Andrey Konovalov stood shoulder to shoulder with the youth.

“By starting cooperation with the young, promising football club Sparta, we are making a contribution to the development of Russian football, a popular sport. History has known many victories of our football players, and we are confident that the future victories of Sparta will be a worthy continuation of these glorious traditions,” the press service of Master Bank commented on the event.

Classic from MDM

MDM Bank carries out social and charitable activities under the "Culture" program - it supports classical music culture. This program includes several author's projects carried out in different cities for 3-5 years. In 2010, 12 classical music concerts were held in 10 Russian cities. The events were attended by about 9 thousand spectators. At these concerts, such artists as Denis Matsuev, Vadim Repin, Khibla Gerzmava, Krzysztof Penderetsky, Boris Berezovsky, Alexander Gindin, Nikolai Lugansky, Sergey Suvorov, Gidon Kremer performed before the Russian audience.

The organization of classical music concerts makes it possible to hear the best musicians of our time and provides access to the highest achievements in the field of culture and art for residents of the regions of Russia. This program also aims to provide financial support to musical theaters and philharmonic societies.

The music program of MDM Bank solves several problems at once: it is both assistance to regional philharmonics and financing of concert activities of musicians, and, of course, presents a gift to the public - connoisseurs of classical music throughout Russia.

How "Bind Hearts" in Promsvyazbank

The "Binding Hearts" campaign is aimed at helping orphans.

Thus, on Children's Day, bank employees collected more than 20 boxes with educational games and gifts, as well as financial assistance for children from three orphanages and orphanages. And then we made two trips to these orphanages, where we talked with the children and tried to give them not only the gifts they brought, but warmth and attention, which they lack so much.

The guys shared their thoughts about their future career with the guests. Many girls are interested in the profession of a hairdresser, almost all the boys love football and are fans of the CSKA club. Bank employees tried to tell the children about their work, to explain that it is important and necessary to study.

Also, the guests listened with pleasure to short stories of the pupils about themselves and tried to answer the questions of interest to the children.

Golf Tournament from Interkommerts Bank

Interkommerts Bank became one of the sponsors of the Oilmen's Cup charity golf tournament held on September 23, 2012 at the Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club. The competition is organized by the Children's Fates charity foundation, which provides assistance in social adaptation to orphans and children left without parental care. All funds raised were used to implement social adaptation programs and provide educational programs for orphans at the orphanage in the village of Rybnoe, Ryazan Region. “The life of orphans is devoid of those colors that are inherent in life in an ordinary family. They live in the closed world of the orphanage, the world around them seems to them something incomprehensible and often hostile. To help them learn about the world around them and pass on elementary skills, help them choose a profession, simply show the family model and, most importantly, explain that they are needed by society, that their life can still turn out well and it depends only on them, is the main task of our foundation,” says Lidia Shamikhina, head of the Children’s Fate Foundation.

Thanks to the curriculum, children will be able to get a good education and decide on the choice of their future profession. These factors, in turn, should help orphans to achieve real success in life and become successful people.

Help and Credit Suisse Bank

Credit Suisse together with the Pomogi Foundation held a charity event for a children's psycho-neurological hospital located in the village of Nikolskoye, 60 km from Moscow.

Bank employees made two trips to the hospital? - in December 2011 and in August 2012. We talked and played with children, held competitions and presented gifts - a TV set, sports equipment, toys, books and sweets. The children, in turn, arranged a small concert, read poetry and were very happy to meet new people.

The hospital is located in the former estate of Prince Gagarin, is an architectural monument and is currently under restoration. On New Year's Eve 2013, Credit Suisse employees plan to make another trip to the children, present New Year's gifts and find out what kind of help the hospital will need.

The world of creation and magic from Alfa-Bank

Alfa-Bank actively involves its employees in charity. Bank volunteers not only organize entertainment and sports events for sponsored orphanages. Since August 2012, Alfa-Bank has been developing a new project, which is already beloved by employees, during which volunteers paint the walls of the foyer in the oncology center, doing it together with the children who are being treated here.

The bank is confident that, with the help of creative activities, children can be distracted from illnesses and plunge into the world of creation and magic. Art is the key that really opens up a new world for children, where there is a place for love, which they may have been deprived of, and faith in the best. Moreover, experienced artists work with volunteers, who teach them to draw various elements of the picture and fully control the process of decorating the wall. The organizers of the project hope that their paintings in the foyer, if they do not create a festive mood in the clinic, will certainly allow everyone, especially children, to forget about problems for a while, looking at the fairy-tale characters on the walls.

"The right to help" from Rosbank

The “Everyone Has the Right to Help” program has become the first in-house charity program in Russia, which allows each employee to become a participant in the charitable process and have the opportunity to influence it. Modern corporate philanthropy involves the implementation of program activities, and not spontaneous charity, therefore, "Everyone has the right to help" has been successfully working in Rosbank for 10 years.

The program hosts projects aimed at helping children with various diseases, orphans, the elderly, the homeless, and animals. Thus, employees have the opportunity to choose the direction of assistance, which, in their opinion, is most necessary to support. Each donation of employees made within the framework of the program for a particular project is doubled from the bank's budget. This year, bank employees helped pay for expensive operations for children with various diseases, elderly people from a nursing home for the elderly and disabled in the city of Vyazma, Smolensk Region, the Burn Center at the Children's Clinical Hospital No. Speransky, supported the Center "Dogs - Helpers of the Disabled", as well as homeless animals. For ten years, co-financing of employees and the bank has made it possible to provide assistance to wards from 30 organizations for a total amount of more than 15 million rubles.

"Apple week" from GI Money Bank

From October 1 to October 6, 2012, the charitable event "Apple Week" was held in GIM Money Bank, the purpose of which was to provide assistance and support to the "Children's Hearts" charitable foundation. Everything went very fun and non-standard: the week began with the Charlotte competition among the members of the bank's board, in which everyone had to not only bake and advertise their creation with their own hands, but also sell it, earning the maximum amount of money for the fund. The management demonstrated not only their brilliant culinary skills, but also their sales skills, and the employees, having bought a treat, financially supported this undertaking.

The completion of the working week was the contest "Apple Rows". Each department prepared and laid chic apple tables, treating everyone for a nominal fee, and a special commission determined the winner's table with the most beautiful, original and varied treat.

The employees of the bank in Kazan did not stay away from good deeds, they supported this charitable initiative and held the competition-fair "Apple Pie". The proceeds from the sale of apple treats were also donated to the Children's Hearts Foundation.

Through these activities, the bank was able to raise a significant amount of money for the foundation and help pay for a boy with heart disease to undergo surgery. And on Saturday, employees took part in the Charlotte charity festival organized by the Children's Hearts Foundation, where they helped to hold the event and donated the money raised to the foundation.

"Creation" from M2M Private Bank

Every year, M2M Private Bank holds events in support of the Sozidanie charitable foundation. In recent years, inviting its little clients - children to the New Year tree, M2M asks everyone to transfer money to the fund's account. Last year, 2011, the bank helped children with cerebral palsy, this year, 2012, the funds are directed to help the fund's wards with heart disease. The bank's customers are happy to support such an initiative. They trust the bank and the charitable foundation recommended by the bank, knowing that every penny will be spent on its intended purpose.

"Iskorka" from OTP Bank

In 2012, OTP Bank provided support to the rehabilitation camp "Iskorka" for children who had suffered oncohematological diseases. 56 children took part in the program.

The purpose of this work is to create conditions for the successful socialization of children.

Each day spent in the camp was an immersion in a specific topic through art, sports, psychological studies, and creativity. Children were active co-authors, not consumers of "events".

The following example can be attributed to special successes: an 11-year-old boy considered himself “not like everyone else” - after the operation he had a “psychological” fear of stepping on his feet, he did not want to communicate with children.

In the camp he began to take an active part in the games, in the competition of Neptune, he began to walk independently.

The results are impressive - it is important that the children in the camp overcome their weakness and their fear, and "take with them" the feeling of overcoming and victory.

Kindness Day from Renaissance Credit

In 2012, Renaissance Credit hosted a charitable campaign called the Day of Kindness, which brought together employees of the credit institution throughout Russia. The events were attended by representatives not only of Moscow, but also of all seven districts of the bank's presence, as well as operational centers of Kursk and Penza. The list of good deeds performed as part of the action was extremely diverse. Employees of "Renaissance Credit" painted and cleaned the territory of orphanages and kindergartens, visited hospitals and boarding schools, as well as shelters for homeless animals, landscaped the territory.

"Day of Kindness" is just one of those numerous events that are planned as part of the updated "Bank for You" program. Its goal is to unite 5,000 employees of Renaissance Credit in 61 regions of our country according to their interests: from sports initiatives, various local master classes and excursions to such large-scale actions. "Bank for You" supports five areas: hobbies and passions, sports, discounts, tickets and social activities or charity, each of which gathers a large number of participants. In particular, the "charity" direction brings together caring bank employees throughout Russia who want to realize their desire to help everyone who needs it.

TKB forgives borrowers' debts

In April 2012, a fire broke out in the village of Tygda, Magdagachinsky District, Amur Region. During the day, as a result of the fire, 83 residential buildings were completely burned down, 346 people were left homeless, including 59 children, two people died in the fire, one went missing. Among the victims, whose houses burned down, were five railway workers working at the Tygda station of the Trans-Baikal Railway. Once in TKB, they issued consumer loans for the improvement of living conditions and home repairs. The total debt on loans at that time amounted to more than half a million rubles. The Government of the Amur Region addressed TKB, the letter contained a request to provide charitable assistance to the victims of the fire, as well as to repay consumer loans taken from the bank by residents of the village of Tygda. TKB decided to forgive the debt of the bank's borrowers in order to reduce the financial burden in the current difficult situation. On September 19, on the day of the celebration of the 108th anniversary of the village of Tygda, a solemn opening of the microdistrict for fire victims took place.

Lynx Day from Lanta-Bank

On July 1, 2012, the Novosibirsk branch of Lanta-Bank held a children's holiday - Lynx Day. The Lynx Festival has been held at the Novosibirsk Zoo for the fifth year in a row and gathers all residents of the city. The event was held in an informal, friendly atmosphere. Contests, surprises, smiles, photos with a big plush lynx, children's creative studios, face art, drawing - all this makes the lynx festival one of the brightest city events in Novosibirsk every year. During the competitions, all participants were given "Lanta-coins", for which the guys bought various gifts and souvenirs with the symbols of the bank in a specially organized "Lanta-shop". Almost all branches of the bank, including the Moscow office, are the official guardians of the lynx in city zoos.

It is necessary to clearly distinguish between the concept of sponsorship and patronage, since the sponsor, unlike the patron, pursues a commercial goal - making a profit, his choice is rational, he needs personal fame, advertising of the bank and its brand, attracting new partners and customers. Patronage and charity are based on obtaining non-commercial benefits, in contrast to sponsorship. They affect the efficiency of banking entrepreneurship in an indirect way. Patronage and charity are based on moral values that reflect the desire for humanity, harmony, and consolidation in society, and their emergence is possible in the presence of a high culture of entrepreneurship.

The development of this business communication is also highly dependent on the position of the state towards this phenomenon. Thus, in the United States, charity has become widespread due to the presence of significant benefits for entrepreneurs.

Patronage and charity, as business communications, are based on a much more complex motivation for its use. The higher the culture of banking entrepreneurship, the more often the bank acts as a philanthropist, promoting its philosophy, its mission in relation to society.

Charity is most often provided in the form of direct financial assistance on a non-repayable basis or payment of bills for services, supply and purchase of equipment.

The number of banks involved in charity is not large, which does not allow us to talk about modern charity as a systemic and socially significant business communication.

French banks were pioneers in the development of philanthropy in the country, today their share among patrons is more than 20%. The French bank CDC began to engage in philanthropy in the mid-80s, when a special department for cultural events was created in the bank. Since then, the CDC has strived to remain true to three main areas of patronage: the art of music, the creativity of the young and the holding of solidarity actions.

Since banks do not consider patronage expenses to be strategic, this may lead to their reduction, especially during periods of growing crisis. Therefore, it is advisable to create special funds that will ensure a certain autonomy of cultural events.

The choice of the program is carried out in two ways:

the first, when the bank collects projects and applications, and then considers them;

the second is more ambitious. It is associated with the names of famous artists.

Bank Avangard finances (along with other organizations) the Vl. Spivakov. The Foundation helps gifted children. The bank invites its partners and clients to their concerts. Cooperation with the fund creates a favorable image for the bank.

Another example related to the same bank is the sending, on the personal initiative of the President of the Avangard bank, 200 kg. oil to refugees from Chechnya who live in a tent city in Ingushetia. This action was not advertised.

At the second congress of the Association of Russian Banks, the Banker's Code of Honor was adopted. This document says: "A banker cannot be aloof from the traditions of domestic entrepreneurship: charity and mercy. The banker is ready to help those who need it, using all the opportunities he has for this." However, charity brings the banker not only moral satisfaction, but also direct profit. Charity is an indirect indicator of the bank's reliability and prospects. Charity is one of the most effective tools for creating a positive image, and in the future, the reputation of a bank - a goal that any serious bank should strive for. Most Russian banks consider it their public duty to allocate a significant portion of their funds to "traditional" types of charitable assistance: for the needs of national culture, health care, and social support for the population.

Here are just a few examples. The "National Reserve Bank" (NRB) covered all the expenses of the "Pyotr Fomenko Workshop" theatre-studio related to the rent of premises, the production of costumes and scenery. A decision was made to establish a regular bank scholarship for the study in the UK of the most gifted students of the Faculty of History of Moscow State University. NRB took part in the organization of exhibitions of famous Russian artists Shemyakin and Krasnopevtsev in the gallery "Dom Nashchokin". Together with the Central House of Writers, a literary award "For a new name in Russian literature of recent years" was established.

MontazhSpetsBank provided financial assistance to programs for the rehabilitation of disabled people and orphans, the All-Russian Spartakiad for children from orphanages and boarding schools, a mini-football tournament for orphans for the F. Cherenkov Prize, a cultural and sports festival for women with disabilities, the All-Russian competition among children houses and boarding schools for the prizes of G. Kasparov, paid for a subscription to the relief "Atlas of the perception of illustrations" for blind children.

East-West Bank allocated funds for charitable purposes, which were used to purchase medical equipment and drugs for military hospitals, children's medical institutions, oncological and cardiological medical centers.

The experience of charity needs to be generalized. Gradually, the Russian banking business should move from scattered and chaotic donations to a well-thought-out charitable policy.

In December, Alfa-Bank employees across the country participate in the annual Christmas Miracle charity event. Thanks to them, children left without parental care can feel the atmosphere of the holiday. The traditional campaign was held in all regions of the Bank's presence.

In Moscow, the "Christmas Miracle" began with a sponsored orphanage in Mitino. On December 12, Alfa-Bank Tver volunteers went to the Berezino eco-farm, where the children learned about the peculiarities of keeping pets, fed goats, rode ponies, tasted natural products, and at the end of a busy day received sweet surprises from the Bank.

On December 13, a trip to the orphanage in the village of Moshki in the Tver region took place. Children together with volunteers went on an excursion to the historical and ethnographic museum. The guys had long wanted to visit this museum and, with the help of Alfa-Bank volunteers, they made their dream come true. The children were told about the life and culture of the Russian people. Admiring the antiques, they were mentally transported to the past centuries. The puppet theater "Petrushkina Carousel" completed the children's program. In the evening, the volunteers congratulated the children, handing each of them beautifully decorated gifts. The joy of the children knew no bounds: they received gifts that they had previously made to Santa Claus.

On December 18, volunteers went to congratulate children in the city of Bezhetsk, Tver Region. The program began with the Ice Boom show. Santa Claus turned to a wonderful scientist for help: so that a blizzard of liquid nitrogen swirled in the assembly hall, the northern lights illuminated the hall with the help of an experiment with multi-colored fire. Volunteers held a master class on coloring New Year's toys. The New Year's show ended with the presentation of gifts prepared by Santa Claus according to the wishes of the children.

On December 20, volunteers visited two orphanages at once. At the Royal boarding school, the children showed the volunteers a New Year's fairy tale. On New Year's Eve, volunteers, together with sponsored children from Korolyov, will go for New Year's mood to the musical "The Watchmaker" at the School of Modern Play.

Then the "Alfa" went to the Mytishchi orphanage, together with the guys they split into teams and played the game "Crocodile". A little earlier, volunteers invited a fashionable master stylist to the wards of the Mytishchi orphanage, who transformed the children by giving them stylish haircuts.

A special prize for contribution to literature from the hands of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alfa-Bank Petr Aven was received by Lyudmila Petrushevskaya.

The Litblog award, which was first presented as part of the Big Book, went to Evgenia Lisitsyna, the creator of the greenlampbooks telegram channel. The purpose of this award is to support the public discussion of contemporary literature on the Web. More than 60 authors from all over Russia competed for it this year.

"Help me get ready for school" is an annual charity event dedicated to the Day of Knowledge.

Traditionally, in all regions of the Bank's presence, employees collect everything that is needed for study for children from orphanages: school uniforms, satchels, stationery, organize educational workshops and excursions. Volunteers take the collected things along with other gifts to sponsored institutions, using such trips as another opportunity to talk with the guys and give their attention and a piece of warmth to those who are deprived of it.

This year, the action "Help me get ready for school" was held in 46 cities where ALFA-BANK JSC operates. Our colleagues visited sponsored orphanages and congratulated the children on the Day of Knowledge. We held a number of interesting master classes: we invited stylists who not only cut their hair, but also told how to care for hair, what haircuts are in fashion now and what are simple ways to always look diligent and neat, makeup artists held a make-up master class, teaching girls how to care for appearance, conducted a course on speed reading and much more. A group of volunteers from Tver went with the children from the Mitinsky House on an excursion to the V. A. Serov Memorial and Art Museum in Domotkanovo. Volunteers of the Central Office visited with the children from the sponsored orphanage of Mytishchi a modern production of "Woe from Wit" by A.S. Griboyedov in the theater "School of the modern play". The children were glad to visit the theatre, having become familiar with art and changing the usual environment of the walls of the orphanage.

The Bank named the best translators of Russian literature

We have again become an official partner of the Read Russia award, the only award in the country for the best translation of works of Russian literature into foreign languages. We have supported it since its inception.

This year, the Read Russia award was presented for the fourth time. A total of 178 applications from 33 countries were submitted. The award was given to translators and publishers in four categories:

The Read Russia award includes translators, members of the Board of Trustees, members of the jury, Russian and foreign translators and publishers, participants in the IV International Congress of Translators, literary critics and journalists: Petr Aven, Naina Yeltsina, Mikhail Piotrovsky, Vyacheslav Nikonov, Kirill Razlogov, Mikhail Seslavinsky, Natalia Solzhenitsyna and Vladimir Spivakov, Vladimir Grigoriev, Sergei Filatov, Alexander Drozdov and many others.

Masterpieces by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin were shown at the Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts with the support of Alfa-Bank

With the support of Alfa-Bank, the Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts has opened a unique exhibition “Gift of Kazimira Basevich to Russian Museums”. The guests saw a painting by Petrov-Vodkin Bathing a Red Horse and a series of exhibits from the Tretyakov Gallery. The exhibition was opened by Zelfira Tregulova, Director of the Tretyakov Gallery, and Alexey Chukhlov, Chief Financial Officer of the Bank.

The exhibition brought together three museums - the Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum. V.P. Sukachev. The exhibition was a tribute to the memory of three generations of the Basevich-Lotarev family, who donated most of their collection to Russian museums. Among the authors of the paintings in the collection are Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, Nicholas Roerich, Kustodiev, Mikhail Vrubel, Alexander Benois and others.

At the end of last year, paintings by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin were found in Yekaterinburg, which were kept by the heiress of the famous collector, Kazimira Basevich. Rena Lotareva, grandniece of Kazimira Basevich, donated 17 works by Russian artists to the State Tretyakov Gallery. She presented the Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts with 38 paintings and drawings, as well as 4 sculptures and more than 200 objects of arts and crafts. To make the exhibition complete, the Tretyakov Gallery brought its entire collection, once donated by Kazimira Basevich. The Irkutsk Museum, where part of this gift was kept, also donated their paintings to Yekaterinburg.

The pearl of the collection is the painting "Bathing the Red Horse" by Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. Over the past fifteen years, the painting has left the Tretyakov Gallery only once - for the exhibition "Russia!" to the Guggenheim Museum in New York. In total, more than 70 works are participating in the exhibition - these are paintings by famous artists, sculptures, and exhibits of arts and crafts and furniture from three museum collections.

Alfa-Bank employees visited sponsored orphanages on Children's Day

On June 1, 2018, Russia celebrated Children's Day. As usual, Alfa-Bank employees prepared pleasant surprises for children from sponsored orphanages for this holiday. The traditional campaign was held in all regions of the Bank's presence.

The geography of trips of volunteers of the Central Office, as always, was very extensive, as the office patronizes six institutions.

In the Bezhetsk boarding school and the Correctional boarding school in Korolyov, the children took part in an interactive circus performance. Children could not only see the performance, but also feel like real circus performers.
A team of volunteers from the KCO "Tver" went on an exciting excursion to the village of Davydovo to the Ivanovka farm together with children from the Mitino sponsored orphanage.

For the Mytishchi Orphanage, volunteers have prepared the Adventure Search program. During this program, they received a task and divided into two groups, came up with a team name and motto. Each of the teams went along a given route, where the children had to move from one test to another: Darts, Web, Crossing over bumps, Water sieve, Chained, Labyrinth.

Alfa-Bank held the annual all-Russian charitable campaign “Memory Watch”

In honor of the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, Alfa-Bank held the annual all-Russian charitable action “Memory Watch”. Celebrations, honoring veterans and various actions were held all over the country on this day.

In 57 cities of the country, more than 1,000 employees and volunteers of the bank laid wreaths of fresh flowers at the main monuments and memorials of the Great Patriotic War. The Bank honored the memory of those to whom we owe our freedom and clear skies over our heads.

In Moscow, the action was held at the Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill. Bank employees and members of their families honored the memory of the dead with a minute of silence, after which they laid a wreath at the monument in the Hall of Memory and Sorrow. "From the grateful employees of Alfa-Bank" - such an inscription was made on the mourning ribbon. More than 50 employees of the bank's central office took part in the action.

In addition to the solemn wreath-laying ceremony, the participants of the action attended an excursion on the topic “Military everyday life of the capital”. An experienced guide told about the history of Poklonnaya Gora and its surroundings. Soviet soldiers went to the front along the Mozhayskoye highway, the current Kutuzovsky Prospekt, so Poklonka became a symbol of the Second World War. The historian spoke about how Moscow survived the war, about the camouflage of the Kremlin, German bombing, air defense turrets, shelters in the subway, barrage balloons and much more.

Also, the bank, together with mail.ru, launched a flash mob on social networks #myzamir, where bank employees read a wonderful poem by Vladimir Vysotsky "

None of the banks has a separate division dealing with charity. Some banks have a separate employee (Alfa-Bank, Raiffeisenbank) and a head responsible for philanthropy in general, who, as a rule, combines work with charitable projects with other functions. Most often, this is an employee involved in public relations or projects in the field of GR. At VTB Bank, for example, charity projects are supervised by the secretary of the charity committee in the sponsorship and special projects department, as well as the head of the sponsorship and special projects department (part of the functionality), volunteer programs are coordinated by the HR department. At Uralsib Bank, the Deputy Head of the External Communications Department is responsible for charitable projects.

Corporate funds. Some banks have charitable foundations formed by shareholders. Alfa-Bank, Uralsib, Raiffeisenbank have them. Vostochny Express Bank initiated the creation of the Vostochny Charitable Foundation. The Bank of Moscow is one of the founders of the charitable foundation of the Central Federal District "Support for Children and Families in Difficult Life Situations" (established on the initiative of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Central Federal District). Bank employees, as a rule, also participate in the activities of such funds - in the form of both private donations and volunteering. UniCredit Bank cooperates with UniCredit Group's corporate fund UniCredit Foundation. Citibank also has a corporate fund based in New York.

The Role of Shareholders and Management The "personality factor" continues to play a significant role in corporate philanthropy. For example, the features of corporate charity of Uralsib Bank and the very high percentage of donations from the share of profits are definitely related to the personal value system and worldview of Nikolai Tsvetkov. Many of Alfa-Bank's strategic initiatives are also linked to the personal values of its leaders. In addition to strategic and basic principles, the personal factor also influences the cooperation of banks with partners and contractors: personal acquaintance of the heads of various departments of banks with the heads of NPOs contributes to more active cooperation, and NPOs that are not represented by the top management of banks, as a rule, do not enjoy trust .

In one form or another, most of the banks featured in the study cooperate with non-profit organizations. The degree of this cooperation varies considerably. Among the partners of banks are mainly large NPOs, both international and domestic. Some banks cooperate with a particular NPO for a long time, while others build short-term or even one-time partnerships. For example, Sberbank is a permanent partner of the Podari Zhizn fund. Gazprombank cooperates with the Children's Villages - SOS Foundation, and its Tomsk branch has been partnering with the Tomsk branch of the Red Cross for 19 years. Deutsche Bank practices long-term cooperation with two non-profit organizations (Big Brothers & Big Sisters and Kidsave), and as part of the corporate volunteering program, one-time actions are held that involve interaction with various non-profit organizations, including, for example, Mary's Children. The main partner of Raiffeisenbank is the Russian Assistance Fund, the bank also cooperates with the Downside Up Charitable Foundation, Perspektiva ROOI, the Moscow Sports Association of the Disabled, and Children's Villages - SOS RK. VTB deliberately did not choose any one permanent partner for itself, but periodically interacts with various NGOs.

Partnerships between banks are rare, but they do happen. There is a joint volunteer program between Citibank and UniCredit Bank. In addition to Alfa-Bank, Promsvyazbank participates in the Life Line program. Uralsib Bank plans to pay special attention to the exchange of experience and involvement of other banks in cooperation in charity.

Understanding the Efficiency of Charity and Methods of Its Evaluation Few banks specifically evaluate the effectiveness of their charitable activities. A coherent rating system is in the bank "Uralsib" and Citibank. Alfa-Bank has built an assessment of the performance of the Liniya Zhizni fund, but this approach is not applied to corporate programs. UniCredit Bank evaluates programs based on two main parameters: the degree of achievement of the stated goals of the projects and the effect on society, as well as the number of volunteers and the degree of their satisfaction (if there is an element of corporate volunteering in the programs).

OTP-Bank conducts a quantitative and qualitative assessment of its programs based on reporting, also takes into account the percentage of key performance indicators (KPI) of market managers. Representatives of the bank take part in the working partnership group for assessing the social effectiveness of child support. In the future, it is planned to introduce "Dialogues with Stakeholders", as well as improve KPI, develop and implement a mechanism for evaluating results, efficiency and social impact with the participation of independent evaluators and auditors.

banks name the low culture of Russian social life in general and the low culture of charity in particular; misunderstanding of the mechanisms and meaning of charity, as well as distrust of philanthropists (Alfa-Bank, Raiffeisenbank, Uralsib Bank). The representative of Deutsche Bank drew attention to the low culture of CSR projects in the vast majority of organizations. “Even where this is systematically carried out, the object of assistance is children, and the means of assistance are money. And that's all," he said.

The insufficient maturity of the non-profit sector was also noted by the representative of Uralsib. A related problem is the difficulty of finding adequate NPO partners (Citibank). Some banks note problems with reporting from NCOs (Rosbank, OTP Bank).

In addition, obstacles created by the tax authorities, which often make donations meaningless, are cited as a problem and an obstacle to many initiatives (this, in particular, was mentioned by a representative of VTB).

A representative of OTP-Bank drew attention to internal organizational difficulties. In particular, the following were highlighted: a large load on one coordinator for charity and GR-directions, as well as market managers of branches; “linking in technical details”, resulting in insufficient time and effort to develop a strategy; lengthy approval process.

Information openness

Information transparency of the social and charitable activities of banks is not uniform. Some companies publish social reports (Alfa-Bank, VTB, Uralsib, Citibank, MDM-Bank), some do not (Russian Standard Bank, St. Petersburg Bank, Russian Agricultural Bank, Promsvyazbank, Svyaz-Bank, Ural Bank reconstruction and development, Absolut Bank, etc.).

For some banks, information on charitable activities is contained in the annual reports in the “Society” or “Social Responsibility” section (Sberbank, Gazprombank, UniCredit Bank, Raiffeisenbank, Petrocommerce Bank, Binbank, Intesa Bank, Transcapitalbank).

Many banks refuse to openly discuss their charitable and social activities. This is evidenced by the rare presence of their representatives at professional conferences and other events dedicated to CSR issues, as well as their closeness to interviews with representatives of public and research organizations. The National Clearing Center, Svyaz-Bank, Absolut Bank and KIT Finance bank turned out to be the most closed in terms of information. NCC's corporate website completely lacks any mention of charitable activities and social programs (according to the Central Bank, in 2011 this bank spent 0 rubles on charity), Svyaz-Bank has anecdotal information about sponsorship in the News section, Absolut Bank - only a banner that he became a partner of the international competition of business journalism "PRESSZVANIE" (this is especially surprising, given that more than 90% of the shares of banks belong to KBC Group, which pays great attention to social responsibility issues, and Absolut Group LLC - permanent participant of the ranking "Leaders of corporate charity"). On the website of KIT Finance bank, references to sponsorship and charity are presented only in the news format.

The study provides an analysis of the financial statements of 50 banks for 2015 in comparison with the data of 2014 and 2011. The volume of spending on charity was considered according to the data of the Bank of Russia.

Russian and subsidiaries of foreign banks operating in Russia continue to provide reports to the Central Bank, and this data is open.

However, it should be borne in mind that not all charitable expenses can in principle be reported. For example, in banks that have created their own charitable foundations, the remuneration of employees of these foundations and compensation for their expenses may not be included in the “Charity” item. And in international banks, programs can be financed from the budget of the corporate fund located at the headquarters, which is also not reflected in the Central Bank's reporting.

But not all expenses under this reporting line are charitable expenses. It often also includes "other similar expenses", such as expenses related to the bank's image, the maintenance of social infrastructure or intra-group operations (financial assistance to subsidiaries, etc.).

Despite the recorded growth in charitable spending in the bank statements for 2015, the real picture, based on the dynamics of indicators for two years, rather indicates a decrease in the level of spending on charity.

In 2015, 50 banks included in the rating list of the best, according to the reports submitted by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, spent a total of 27,338,865,000 rubles on charity. This is more than twice as much as in 2014, when expenses amounted to almost 12.12 trillion rubles, and more than four times more than in 2011. These figures are in conflict with other performance indicators of Russian banks, and we will discuss the result in detail below.

According to the same reporting, the total profit of banks in 2015 decreased. Accordingly, the percentage of charitable spending in relation to profit has more than doubled, the spread in this indicator has become even greater than in 2014.

At the same time, a large number of banks were engaged in charity, despite the fact that they had no profit at all in the past. The economic crisis led to the fact that 20 banks ended 2015 with losses (in 2014 - 7 banks). But 19 of them still kept spending on charity.

In the top ten in terms of absolute values of charitable spending, there are three “billionaires” (amounts over a billion rubles), one “half-billionaire” (an amount of about half a billion rubles or more) and five “hundred-millionaires” (amount over 100 million rubles, see Table 1).

Rosbank (140,108,000 rubles) and Russian Standard (98,814,000 rubles) are a little behind the top ten, while the main group of banks spends from 50 to 10 million rubles on charity.

Several banks have spent less than 1 million rubles on charity - these are MTS Bank (548 thousand rubles), Vostochny Express Bank (207 thousand rubles) and Rost Bank (201 thousand rubles). And the bottom of the table is the National Clearing Centre, the National Bank "Trust" and the bank "Globex", which officially spent 0 rubles on charity (see Appendix 2).

According to the Central Bank, in 2015, VTB Bank spent a record amount on charity - 17,283,454 thousand rubles. For all three years of the study, not a single bank had such an order of spending, and we turned to VTB for comments.

As it turned out, the charitable spending of the entire VTB Group, and for 2014, was included in the Central Bank's reporting. The press service of the bank gave the following commentary: “The amount for charity reflected in the RAS financial statements for 2015 includes all the expenses of the VTB Group for 2014. This amount has been technically taken into account in Russian financial statements since the first quarter of 2015 — it was then that the actual write-off took place funds. Under IFRS, these expenses were recognized in 2014, since that is when contractual obligations for charitable projects arose. According to the results of 9 months of 2015, VTB Group's charitable expenses under IFRS amounted to 2.7 billion rubles.” How much was spent on charity in 2015 by VTB Bank, the press service refused to report.

Thus, if we take into account technical write-offs in the VTB Group, the picture of growth in charitable spending by banks in 2015 will be quite different.

If we analyze the dynamics of spending on charity by 45 banks participating in the study for 2 years in a row, not taking into account the expenses of VTB Group, the dynamics of charitable spending will be negative: in terms of total indicators, they have become less than last year. Profit declined at 25 out of 45 banks, 5 have not had it for the second year.

In terms of the percentage of charitable expenses to profits, the top ten looks somewhat different (see Table 2).

The absolute leader is Rosbank, which spent 3922.4% of its profit on charity. The bank in the past experienced a significant decline in profits and, at the same time, an increase in charitable spending. However, as explained by the bank, the order of this growth is not so large: “The significantly increased spending on charity, which was reflected in item 20150312, is associated with a technical adjustment. Approximately RUB 100 million reflected in this expense item represents amounts associated with intra-group transactions, which are offset by income of the same amount presented in another item - as a result, there is no impact on the bank's result. This reflection is caused by the requirements of the current chart of accounts.

VTB24 donated 61.46% of its profits to charity. The press service of the bank told us: “Spending on charity in 2015 remained virtually unchanged. At the same time, it should be noted that this article reflects not only charitable and sponsorship assistance to external organizations, but also support for bank employees (material assistance at the birth of a child, assistance in the event of the loss of a loved one, assistance for treatment, compensation in case of emergencies, etc. .). Linking charity expenses to the bank's profit under RAS is incorrect. When drawing up a business plan for the year, VTB24 focuses on international financial reporting standards. The financial result of the bank for 2015 under IFRS was significantly higher than under RAS.”

A fairly large percentage of expenses for FC Otkritie is 12.68%. We were not able to get comments from representatives of the corporation on this matter. The expenses of four banks range from 2% to 8%: Bank Peresvet (7.28%), Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development (3.43%), Novikombank (2.87%) and Rossiya Bank (2 .3%).

Since 20 out of 50 banks participating in the study did not have a profit in 2015, it is not possible to calculate the percentage of their charitable spending from profit.

The trend to keep charitable spending despite the lack of profit emerged last year. At that moment, seven banks had such a situation. Then we interpreted it as follows: for many banks, the charity budget for the next year is formed on the basis of the last year's budget, as well as based on the reserves of unspent profits of several previous years.

In 2015, the number of banks that did not make a profit and keep charitable spending increased. Some banks, in the absence of profit, continue to engage in charity for the second year in a row. Roman Kenigsberg, head of practice, consultant at FBK Grant Thornton, spoke about how this is possible: “The fact that banks have charitable expenses in the absence of profit can be explained by the presence of complex products that provide for deductions depending on turnover. For example, in 2014, the increase in the charity indicator was mainly associated with the turnover of card products. In addition, philanthropy may include expenses related to the image of the bank, the maintenance of sports teams or social infrastructure. These expenses may be recorded as charitable expenses in connection with the conclusion of a donation agreement. I think every organization showing charitable spending but no profit may have its own reason. The relative increase in spending may be related, for example, to the low base effect: it is possible that spending was too low in the previous period.”

We received another comment from a banking expert who wished to remain anonymous: “Charity that exists in the Russian Federation, especially among banks, is specific. If you want to enter this or that region, achieve this or that project in this municipal territory, you must make such and such a charitable contribution. This is beautifully called Corporate Social Responsibility, although this has nothing to do with the reality that we know from the West. It's part of GR. This is the only reason why philanthropy does not decrease in volume, despite the lack of profit.”

We have to admit that every year the reporting data of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation require more and more detailed interpretation. In 2011, only three banks had a percentage of profit of about 20% or more: Uralsib (26.94%), Khanty-Mansiysk Bank Otkritie (23.58%) and Moscow Industrial Bank (18.49%), and experts commented on these figures as very high. In 2014, a figure of 361.79% appeared for the Bank of Moscow and seven banks that have charitable spending without profit. In 2015, the results became even more unusual: 3922.4% of Rosbank's profit, 17 billion rubles. for charity at VTB, 19 banks that carry out charitable spending without profit.

Thus, the following conclusions can be drawn from the study:

  1. A detailed analysis of bank spending on charity, based on the dynamics of indicators for two years, indicates a decrease in their real level.
  2. The financial norm of participation has not been formed, the spread of charitable expenses in relation to profits across the sector is very significant.
  3. Charity leaders in absolute monetary terms do not always deduct the highest percentage of profits for charitable expenses.
  4. It is realistic to expect that in the near future, the volume of funds allocated to charity will decrease markedly, since the money indicated in the reports was mainly allocated from the profits of previous years, and now these reserves will become smaller.
  5. The benefits of public, transparent reporting that distinguished the banking sector are being lost. Their reporting of charitable spending is becoming as confusing as, for example, commodity and energy companies, and requires more and more careful and detailed interpretation. In a situation where it is problematic to get intelligible comments from banks, we can only assume what part of the expenses reported in the reports are actually related to charity.
ABOUT THE RESEARCH

In 2016, CAF Russia conducted the third study of the charitable activities of the largest Russian banks. The first review of banking sector philanthropy was published in 2012. At that time, the volumes of philanthropy of the leading Russian banks, trends in their charitable activities, features of charitable policy, program formats, approaches to choosing partners and evaluating the effectiveness of charity, as well as attitudes towards the reputational effect and staff mobilization opportunities (PR-, GR- and HR-effects) were studied . In 2015, only the quantitative part of the study was carried out. In the study of 2016, as in the previous year, the dynamics of bank philanthropy is monitored.
