Folding models of upholstered furniture have practically ousted other options from the market. Their versatility and practicality form a steady consumer demand. Responsible for these characteristics are the mechanisms for transforming sofas, which are being improved every year thanks to the innovative developments of specialists. Modern upholstered furniture has become more reliable and durable. And now a fragile woman and a child can turn it into a full-fledged sleeping place without any problems.

Purpose

Folding sofas are necessary to save usable space in the room. They can be used as the main bed, and the universal model will help out if guests arrive. During the day, such furniture is usually in a folded position and performs its direct functions.

The design, dimensions and folding mechanism determine the function of the sofa in the interior. For example, "Click-clack" requires more space against the wall, and "Tango" will take over the functions of the main bed in the nursery.

You can count several dozen modern mechanisms for transforming sofas. Each of them has its own design features and advantages. At the same time, the basic device of any sofa is approximately the same. Upholstered furniture consists of several basic elements:

 • back;
 • seat;
 • armrests;
 • frame;
 • filler;
 • upholstery.

In addition, it can be additionally equipped with pillows or drawers for storing bed linen and other things. The transformation device is a set of parts that includes a articulated lever mechanism, guides and rollers. Its main task is to increase the area of the bed. Usually the design is placed in the back and middle blocks of the sofa.

Overview of popular models

All types of sofas differ in several ways. By design, they can be angular, straight, modular. By the number of places - double, triple and more. Also, the furniture is equipped with a different mechanism for laying out sofas.

Depending on these criteria, products differ:

 • dimensions;
 • convenience;
 • bed size;
 • design.

Having studied the design features and clearly knowing your own needs, you can make a smart choice. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the regularity of operation - whether the furniture will be laid out daily or from time to time. In the first case, the most reliable mechanism is needed. And in the second, the main thing is that the furniture fits into the interior when folded.

Books

The most common type of upholstered furniture. By design, products can vary significantly, but the basic principle remains the same - the design of the sofa allows you to fold and unfold it like a book. The furniture consists of two halves moving relative to each other, which provide for two or three positions. To fix the sofa in any of them, just pull one of the parts towards you.

There are several types of this mechanism:

 1. The usual "book" is the oldest of the existing models. Identical furniture options were still sold in Soviet stores. They have only two fixed positions and a simple transformation mechanism. This model is budget friendly. Inexpensive fabrics are used for upholstery, chipboards are used as a frame. The main drawback is the insufficiently even and spacious surface for sleeping. In addition, a similar mechanism for a sofa implies that the product will have to be constantly moved away from the wall. This is quite difficult, given that ordinary "books" are often equipped with storage boxes.
 2. "Eurobook" differs from the usual "book" in that it does not need to be moved away from the wall. The folding mechanism allows you to roll out the front part, then the back fits into the resulting opening. The furniture is characterized by more impressive dimensions, it can comfortably accommodate two people. The sofa with the Eurobook mechanism can be used as a comfortable bed for one person, even when folded. The cost of such furniture is much higher than that of the previous model.
 3. "Tango" ("click-clack") - options that are comfortable for sleeping, the main feature of which is the absence of a pronounced joint between the two halves of the "book". The furniture looks like a single whole, both folded and unfolded. The model is often equipped with armrests, which, when unfolded, can be lowered and raised at an angle in the form of a headrest. These types of sofas are often used as beds, that is, they are not folded in the morning.
 4. Pantographs are the most complex mechanisms of "book" type sofas. There are several varieties of them. You can unfold the "Puma" sofa in one motion, without using rollers (which means that it is impossible to spoil the floor). The seat is pushed forward, the backrest is lowered, at the same time the legs of the support are lowered. You can fold everything back with the help of special handles. The pendulum device underlying the "walking eurobook" allows furniture to be transformed by simply pulling on the loop. To unfold the model with the tick-tock mechanism, it is enough to pull the seat towards you and slightly up and gently lower the structure to the floor.

Among the advantages of models equipped with a "pantograph" is the smoothest movement of the mechanism among the "books".

Roll-out structures

The roll-out mechanism means the presence of wheels. Part of the structure - two segments - in the folded state is inside the sofa. In order to spread out the furniture, it is necessary to roll out this half from the body, and then raise it flush with the seat. The quality of the videos is key.

Clamshells

The transformation of any "clamshell" occurs according to the principle of familiar furniture of the same name. The "French folding bed" in the unfolded state looks a bit like the Soviet model. You just need to stretch three sections forward, and it will stand on the metal supports hidden in the body. This is a lightweight, but quickly wearing mechanism, which can be mechanically damaged if the weight of the sleepers is too large.

Some of the problems were solved in the "American clamshell" model (sedaflex). It differs from the French one in that the transformer mechanism does not stretch out, namely, it unfolds according to the principle of a sandwich. First one section folds out, then another. Between them are supports. When installing sections on supports, a berth is obtained. This is one of the most convenient and reliable mechanisms for transforming sofas.

The main drawback of the "American clamshell" is the lack of a storage system. Inside the sofa is only a bed.

Accordion

In a way, this is also a clamshell. But if the latest types of transformation mechanisms hide additional sections in the lower part of a piece of furniture, then the “accordion” is in the back, which consists of two sections. For unfolding, it is necessary to push the lower part forward, and the back will decompose.

When folded, the "accordion" looks attractive and compact. And the absence of a mechanism at the bottom makes the sofa more reliable. Drawers for linen are not provided in the model, so it is often equipped with additional cabinets. The sleeping surface is flat, but its size is limited by the height of the back. Another significant drawback is the possibility of damage to the flooring during the transformation process.

Sofas equipped with a mechanism such as "accordion" are not very popular, so you won't be able to immediately find a model of a suitable color and size.

Folding sofas with metal frame

Models on a metal frame are more difficult to manufacture, more expensive. But if all the connecting nodes and mechanisms fit exactly, such sofas can last longer. The frame is based on shaped pipes, and cushions are placed on a metal mesh up to 0.5 cm thick. Due to the increased strength, such a frame is the most reliable for daily use.

Spartacus

"Spartak" is equipped with a mechanism that unfolds forward. The triple folding device is somewhat reminiscent of the "American clamshell", that is, it unfolds in three stages, standing on the supports inside the frame. An additional advantage is the presence of a polyurethane foam mattress and a metal mesh base, guaranteeing a comfortable sleep. Such elements are recommended by orthopedists for people who have problems with the musculoskeletal system.

In the Spartak models, not just a reliable transformation mechanism, such sofas are designed taking into account medical recommendations.

Elf

Sofas "Elf" with a metal frame have an orthopedic effect. An additional plus - models with a stepper mechanism increase the useful area of the bed due to the sections located at the bottom of the piece of furniture or in the back. And the "Elf" is laid out due to the armrests. They are bred on the sides - the design becomes longer. The frame is made of profiled pipes. The base for the pillows are curved wooden transverse slats.

The most complex and functional products

Sophisticated models of folding sofas are equipped with universal mechanisms and electronics that allow you to give the sleeping position the most comfortable position for a particular person. Among all types of folding furniture according to the type of transformation, the most multifunctional can be called the modification options "recliner". They are equipped with a control panel that allows you to fix the footrest at the required angle, push it out only a certain distance. The backrest angle is also adjustable. Recliners are supplied with vibration massagers. Smart models with electronics can remember settings. The disadvantages of recliners are obvious. They are expensive, in the event of a breakdown, repairs will also cost a round sum. In addition, this is more of a place to relax, not to sleep - there is no full-fledged sleeping surface.

Even a superficial acquaintance with what the sofa folding mechanisms are like leads to the conclusion that there are no universal tips for choosing. It all depends on many factors:

 • housing conditions;
 • frequency of use;
 • financial opportunities;
 • the required sleeping area.

It is definitely impossible to answer which sofa mechanism is better. Each has certain advantages and disadvantages. Simplicity of design can be a plus when it comes to constantly using an inexpensive mechanism. And a disadvantage if the main criterion is the comfort for sleep.

Expensive models equipped with an electric drive and a vibration massager will help you relax after a working day. But sleeping on them is hardly more comfortable than on a regular "book", which is much cheaper. In addition, the simple mechanism of the sofa is the most reliable, because there is nothing to break.

For regular sleep, it is better to choose a reliable and comfortable model of upholstered furniture. As a guest sofa, you can use a design that occupies a minimum of usable space.

In the store, you need to check the serviceability of the transformation mechanism. It should not make extraneous sounds or jam. To determine the quality of the assembly, you need to try to expand and fold the furniture several times.

Before giving preference to a particular model, it is worth deciding how exactly it will be used, prioritizing. Only then will it be possible to make an informed and reasonable choice. A wide range will allow you to purchase a product that meets all requirements.

The choice of sofa depends on living conditions and the frequency of use of the product.

For regular sleep, it is better to purchase a reliable and comfortable model of upholstered furniture.

Manufacturers of upholstered furniture use a variety of layout mechanisms for sofas. There are no universal options. Depending on the method of operation, the size of the room and some other conditions, one or the other is selected.

In order not to make a mistake, you need to listen to the advice of experts. They will help you understand what factors you need to pay attention to in the first place. All groups of mechanisms are classified according to certain criteria. This makes it much easier to figure out which model is best suited.

studying, which mechanism for transforming sofas is better a number of recommendations should be taken into account. There is a generally accepted rule. All sofas are conditionally divided into guest types and designed for daily sleep. If the mechanism is chosen correctly, the furniture will last a long time. Its operation will be comfortable.

If the sofa will be laid out often (sleeping variety), you should not purchase products with a complex layout procedure. In this case, it would be useful to remember the golden rule: the simpler the better. Guest sofas, on the contrary, are not designed for the daily movements of the system. Therefore, their mechanism will not be as strong as that of sleeping varieties.

Attention should also be paid to such criteria as the maximum load of the bed, the orthopedic qualities of the model, its appearance, the layout procedure, the comfort of the bed, and also the convenience in the sitting position. So sofa transformation mechanism is an important factor influencing the choice.

Guest models

Guest type sofas have a design that does not take up much space. The appearance of such furniture is very unusual, interesting. Such mechanisms include "French folding bed", "Sedaflex", "Dionysus", etc. The main purpose of such furniture is to surprise guests, ensuring their maximum comfort during their stay in the hosts' house.

Comfort in a sitting position is important, but you won’t be able to kill two birds with one stone, you will have to sacrifice comfort when laying out. Mechanisms for transforming corner sofas require a significant investment of time and effort in order to transform furniture into a place to sleep. First you need to remove the seat cushions. After that, the mechanism is activated.

If you believe the reviews, rest in such a bed leaves much to be desired. These types of sofas are usually cheap. You can sleep on them, but not all the time.

Sleeping sofa

The second group includes furniture designed for daily sleep. When laying out, you do not need to spend a lot of time. Sleep will be comfortable. Devices of this type include the "book" and its main variations. The most famous of them are "click-clack" and "Eurobook".

This type includes angular varieties. The most popular in this group is recognized the transformation mechanism of the sofa "dolphin", well, or"puma". Also bright representatives of furniture for daily sleep are sofas "telescope" and "ribalto".

Such mechanisms are very easy to operate. Their transformation is quick and easy. The sleeping place has sufficient rigidity. It is flat and comfortable. Such mechanisms are designed for a large number of transformation cycles.

"Book" or "click-clack"

One of the simplest is sofa book. Transformation mechanism involves raising the seat. At this point, a click occurs. The sofa comes back down already unfolded.

Click-clack models are a slightly improved version of the book. Such devices have an intermediate position. At the same time, a person can be in a “relaxation” position. The back does not go all the way down. Therefore, a person is located on the sofa half-sitting.

The advantage of the presented models is reliability and durability even with daily transformation. This option is ideal for apartments with a small area. Floor covering can be anything.

The disadvantage is the limitation in design, simple appearance. The back and seat of such models must be identical in length. A variety of "click-clack" should not be placed close to the wall.

"Eurobook"

One of the most common models today is the Eurobook. The sofa transformation mechanism is considered one of the most reliable. When folding, the seat is pushed forward. Under it opens a space for storing bed linen. The back rests on the vacated space.

The advantage of such a system is the minimum number of mechanical elements. Therefore, there is practically nothing to break in such furniture. According to consumers, these are durable reliable products. The sleeping area is very spacious. In addition, there is a rather large box below. It is convenient to store bed linen and bedding here. The sofa can be installed near the wall.

As for the disadvantages of such products, people note that the seat slides on the floor. Therefore, special attention is paid to the coating. In general, the "Eurobook" is a solid reliable mechanism that will serve its owners for many years.

"Pantograph"

One of the analogues of the "Eurobook" today is the "pantograph". The sofa transformation mechanism is also quite simple. It is necessary to raise the seat at an inclination of about 45º. Then it is lowered and pulled down and towards itself. The back goes down. This is how the bed is made.

Below is a laundry compartment. Some models of the presented variety can be transformed from a direct to a corner version of upholstered furniture. And it doesn't matter if you want to turn it right or left.

The advantage of this mechanism, judging by the reviews, is that the seat does not roll out on the floor surface. It simply slides out without touching the flooring of the room. The improved design causes an increase in the cost of such sofas.

"Cot"

The "clamshell" type has several popular design options. The principle of transformation here is simple. The bed is located directly under the seat. For the front panel, which is located below, the seat moves forward. There is a French and an American folding bed. Their principle is very similar.

The French one is pulled out in the form of a scroll, which unfolds in 3 stages. This mechanism is compact in size, so it is built into even very sophisticated sofas. However, this model is not used on a daily basis.

The American clamshell is designed for heavy loads. This sofa is practical and durable. However, this feature significantly raises the price of this furniture. To transform the sofa, you need to lift it a little, and then pull it towards you. This type of mechanism does not harm the flooring, but it needs to be lubricated periodically to avoid squeaks.

Withdrawable mechanism

One of the best options for sleep is considered roll-out sofa. Transformation mechanism here is very simple. The berth is obtained by rolling out additional sections from under the base. Due to its simplicity, the presented mechanism is called one of the most reliable.

Another advantage of such products is the absence of requirements for the size of the room. It is installed even in small rooms. Moreover, in the unfolded state, the place to sleep will be long and even.

The disadvantage of such mechanisms is the exactingness of the type of flooring. It should be strong, not sag under the weight of the sofa. In the process of transformation, the base slides on the floor. Nothing should interfere with this movement. It is better if the selected model of the presented type has rubber wheels.

The sofa is the most used element of the interior. It is often used for several purposes at once - for sitting, relaxing or sleeping. Therefore, when choosing furniture, it is necessary to take into account not only the appearance, but also the varieties of sofas: classification, technical characteristics. This will help you choose a visually beautiful model that will complement the interior, but at the same time allow you to rationally use the space of the room.

What are there?

There is no strict classification of sofas, but there are generally accepted standards and terms. When choosing a sofa, as a rule, take into account its design indicators, functional features and spaciousness. Characteristics can be selected in a separate list and rely on when choosing your individual model, which will be especially important if the furniture is made to order.

By shape

It is recommended to choose a sofa of such a shape or design that it does not take up extra space in the room. This element of furniture should be located so as to fill the unused area of the room, and the aisles or, for example, the play area in the children's room, should be free. By design, sofas are conditionally divided into four types.

 • Corner. Such models successfully occupy unused corner niches, straight backs can be leaned against the walls. The corner shape is great for small, one-room apartments, small kitchens. In rooms with a large area, the corner design allows you to zone the space.

 • Direct or stationary- the most popular form of furniture due to the many placement options. Straight sofas are conveniently installed along the walls, in the center and corners of the room, small compact models can be easily moved around the room. Most straight sofas are folding or pull-out. Installed in the center of the room near the wall, if necessary, they can serve as a full-fledged double bed.

 • Modular sofas- the most mobile and multifunctional type of furniture, their design consists of several parts that can be used both together and separately. If necessary, the parts are combined in a different order, for example, a large corner sofa is disassembled into two straight lines or small separate modules are used as ottomans.

 • Island- these models are less popular in comparison with previous forms, since they mainly involve installation in large rooms. Made in the form of islands, they are installed in the same way - in the middle of the room, or in the corner in case of zoning the area. Island models occupy a lot of usable space, but they look presentable and help to implement bold design solutions.

When choosing the shape of furniture, it is important not to forget about its volume, the total area that it will occupy.

The sofa in the hall or in the kitchen should not be too wide; in these rooms it is better to leave more space for movement. In apartments where a folding sofa is planned to be used as a sleeping place, models with a wide seat are suitable, but for rest rooms they often choose designs not only with a wide, but also with a deep seat.

By appointment

The shape and design of the sofa is also selected taking into account the purpose of the furniture, the choice of material for manufacturing, as well as the total cost of the future product, will depend on this indicator. For example, models with inexpensive upholstery are suitable for the kitchen; for sleeping places, it is advisable to order sofas made from natural materials; in work or office premises, leather-covered products are more practical. By appointment, this element of upholstered furniture is classified into five types:

 • office, for working rooms;
 • for the hall, living rooms;
 • for kitchens and dining rooms;
 • in the hallway or corridor;
 • for children's and playrooms.

If additional beds are periodically needed, it is better to choose a stationary direct type of sofa, it is also suitable for office space.

In places of rest - in the living room, bedroom or dining room - a good solution would be modular version. Island models are convenient for zoning rooms- in the offices, such sofas are equipped with places for informal conversation, in the halls they are installed in front of TVs.

By size

The size of the sofa means not only its actual length and width in centimeters, but also the number of seats (or beds, in the case of a folding version). Compact models, as a rule, are designed for no more than 2-3 people, medium ones - 4-6, and huge modular sofas can accommodate a company of 7 to 10 people.

However, when choosing a finished model, where the dimensions are laid down by the manufacturer, it must be borne in mind that there is no single standard - one manufacturer can offer a double sofa 1.5 meters long, and the other 1.8 m.

An important indicator of the size of upholstered furniture is the height of the back and landing. Sofas for hallways have a low back or are produced without it at all, models with a low back wall and landing are also often installed in halls and bedrooms. In places where it is planned to only sit on the sofa - in the kitchen or in the office space, such options are selected so that the seat height is not lower than a regular chair.

The best choice for a small space would be sofa without side armrests and extra pillows, another trick to reduce the size of furniture without losing functionality is to purchase or order a structure without legs. The possibilities of use will become somewhat limited, it is difficult to clean under such a sofa, but its size will be minimized.

Types of transformation mechanisms

The place of possible installation will depend on the type of mechanism and the method of changing the design. Some models may take up little space themselves, but when transformed, they require much more space. The choice of how to lay out the sofa is also influenced by the purpose of the furniture, the frequency of its use - not all types of mechanisms are designed for frequent use. It is necessary to take into account the estimated weight that will be on the furniture in the unfolded state. So all sofa models are divided into four main types according to the name of the transformation mechanism.

Withdrawable

The assembled design of the roll-out model consists of three separate elements - the rear part in the folded state is a back, and after transformation into a horizontal position it becomes a place for the head. The seats pushed forward and the lower part hidden in the structure are used as the main lying place.

Such models of upholstered furniture are also called - sofas with a telescopic transformation mechanism, because the layout is done from the inside, like a telescope, individual parts are put forward and fixed one after another. Roll-out versions are mainly installed in large rooms, since in the unfolded state the width of the furniture increases by more than three times.

The transformation of the roll-out structure is carried out in several stages.

First, you need to pull the rag handle located in the lower transverse part of the seat, and push the entire seat frame outward. Then you need to level the sleeping surface of the furniture by lowering the back wall down. In some models, additional side pillows are used for these purposes - when assembled, they play the role of a second soft back. The retractable mechanism on such models, as a rule, is based on a roller system, less often - special springs are built into the design, which recline the seats after the lower part is extended.

Sliding

When assembled, sliding models are very elegant and compact, and when unfolded, they resemble a folding bed. After the transformation, the front part is installed on special folding supports, the backrest is lowered, and the assembled bed becomes three separate sections. There are several main types of sliding products.

 • "French" folding bed- the classic version of sliding upholstered furniture. When assembled, it takes up little space, but when laid out, the front part moves forward by one and a half to two meters, depending on the specific model. The "French" mechanism is not recommended for frequent use - a sofa can only occasionally serve as a sleeping place, but basically such models are designed more for sitting.

 • "American" folding bed. By its design, it is similar to the previous model - the beds are formed from three sections, which are put forward in turn and installed on special supports. The main difference is that the "American" version uses a more reliable and durable mechanism - the furniture is designed for frequent use. However, the cost of such sofas is much higher.

 • "Italian" folding bed. Unlike the previous varieties, the “Italian” folding bed is transformed not by lifting the transverse beam of the seats, but by pushing the back wall of the sofa forward. Then the sliding mechanism is also activated, and the surface is installed on the support legs. Compared to the "American" and "French" counterparts, furniture with an "Italian" type of mechanism is equipped with more durable legs.

The most common modifications include accordion mechanism. The principle of its operation is that, moving forward, the berths seem to be stretched with the help of special springs. Metal spring elements, fixed on both sides of the structure, also help to fold the sofa - they tighten the sections inward, setting each in its place. The transformation of these models requires minimal effort - you just need to slightly raise the lower beam of the seats and push it forward.

Just like the clamshell models, the "Accordion" has a very compact size when assembled, it is conveniently installed in small rooms. Another important plus is the presence of a cabinet for linen, located in the back wall of the furniture. Sliding mechanisms "Accordion" are equipped with reliable working elements, have a long service life, withstand considerable weight, are easy to transform, but they also have a drawback - when expanding, the supports slide along the floor and can damage the coating.

lifting

Upholstered furniture with a lifting mechanism consists of two identical parts and involves only two positions - a sitting sofa and a sleeping surface. Horizontal transformation is performed by lifting the seats and folding the backrest back. It is laid on a wooden frame, and the seat beam is lowered into place, in the raised state, the rear wall is fixed with special locking mechanisms.

Before installation, it must be taken into account that between the sofa and the wall, 10-15 cm of empty space will be required for the backrest when it is in the lowered position.

Swivel

Sofas with a swivel mechanism are one of the first to appear on the upholstered furniture market, they are compact and very easy to use, so they always remain relevant. The design involves a minimum of elements, there are no fragile parts, rollers. An important plus is the presence of a box for linen. Of the minuses - there should be a distance of 10-15 cm between the sofa and the wall, which is necessary when unfolding - the seats rise, and the back wall leans back, forming a place for the head.

Thanks to the stoppers, the backrest can be deployed, fixed in the middle position, which is why the models are called swivel.

It is difficult for any of us to imagine a living room without a sofa. This soft component of the interior gives people a feeling of warmth and comfort, a sofa in any home occupies one of the most important places. On it, people relax, play, communicate with family and loved ones, as well as read, watch TV and sleep. In order to decide on his choice, you need to clearly understand what models exist and what functions they perform.

Now more and more new corner models and designs for the house are being produced all the time. In such a number of offers, it is quite difficult for the buyer to make a choice and understand which type is right for him. In most cases, a person chooses a model based on its appearance and the material from which it is created. But with such indicators it is difficult to achieve complete comfort in using the sofa. For example, such a choice is suitable for furnishing a room and giving it aesthetics, but not used often. For the same purposes, there are monolithic sofas, otherwise they are called non-folding. They can be seen in public places and shopping stores.

It is a completely different case when a sofa is bought for frequent use in everyday life. So, we can assume that such a model will be laid out every day for sleep. . To choose the right model and not to make mistakes, you should know and understand what are the mechanisms for transforming sofas.

You should also provide for other criteria for the chosen model: the size of the space required for the sofa, the ease of transformation, the availability of space where to put the bed linen. You should also determine for yourself which type of sofa is better.

The classification of all designs of sofas is carried out according to:

 1. Transformations.
 2. Design features of furniture.
 3. Appointment.
 4. Size and capacity.

Types of mechanisms

Names of sofas

Classification by purpose

All models can be divided according to their purpose:

 1. Office furniture.
 2. Living room furniture.
 3. Kitchen furniture.
 4. Hallway furniture.
 5. Furniture for a children's room.

With all these varieties, sofas and their mechanisms will differ significantly from each other, so you should accurately determine the design of the sofa and its purpose. In most cases the purpose can be determined by the material of which the furniture is made.

Those sofas that are sheathed in leather or more budget materials are usually located in offices or kitchens.

 • cannot be moved close to the wall - there should be 20–30 centimeters left for free play when unfolding;
 • an uneven sleeping place is obtained due to a clear separation of soft surfaces in the middle;
 • transformation requires some effort.

"Eurobook", "Tick-tock", "Pantograph"

An equally popular model on the market is the eurobook sofa. He has a very simple way of unfolding: the seat is pushed forward, and the backrest fits into the vacated space.

In the "Tick-Tock" model, the transformation takes place on the weight along the trajectory of a semicircle on springs, that is, it is not necessary to carry the retractable block along the floor. This makes such a mechanism more attractive, and the model is sometimes called the "Walking Eurobook".

The advantages of sofas include:

 • reliable mechanism;
 • ease of unfolding;
 • spacious inner drawer;
 • flat bed;
 • choice of sizes.

Of the shortcomings, a deep seat can be noted, which may not always be convenient. But this problem is easily solved with the help of sofa cushions.

"Accordion"

This type of transformation of upholstered furniture has firmly won the sympathy of consumers. This can be explained by the increased reliability of the design and the ease of turning the sofa into a bed. To unfold it, you need to lift the seat and pull it towards you. At the same time, the backrest, consisting of two parts, moves forward, and all the elements are laid out like an accordion in one plane.

This is a stable and easy-to-use model, but it has one significant drawback - there is no box for linen.

Withdrawable or "Telescope"

The layout mechanism of the structure is very convenient. First, the main seat of the sofa rolls out to the stop. At the same time, the headrest of the bed extends from behind the back. An additional seat or lumbar soft part is placed in the resulting niche between the two sections of the sofa.

"Telescopes" when folded are very compact, so they can be used even in small spaces. After the transformation, a fairly wide and comfortable bed is obtained.

The disadvantages include the small height of the bed and the fact that the movable mechanism can damage the floor covering.

Folding bed - French type, American (sedaflex) and Belgian

In sofas of this type, the bed is pulled out from under the seat, and then the sections are unfolded and placed on supports or legs.

French - sections are folded three times under the seat. To expand the structure, you must first remove the top cushions. Not very suitable for frequent use, as the mechanism wears out quickly.

American (sedaflex) - unlike the previous model, it has two sections and is completed with a thicker mattress. When the sofa is laid out, the low back is lowered and becomes part of the bed. Reinforced mechanism allows you to use it as an everyday place to sleep.

Belgian - can have both two and three additions. The filling and height of the mattress depends on this.

Dolphin and Kangaroo

The design of furniture with a durable reliable mechanism "Dolphin" is simple and convenient. To expand the sofa, you need to pull out a special block from under the seat, and then remove the second part of the structure from it upwards and towards yourself.

Experts consider this mechanism the most durable of all types. They are often equipped with corner models. They have a spacious and flat place to sleep, and a box for storing bed linen is installed in the side part.

The mechanism "Kangaroo" differs from the "Dolphin" in the ability to create upholstered furniture with higher legs.

"Conrad"

A sofa with such a folding mechanism is considered the most comfortable for sleeping. The design has the ability to use spring blocks. The mattress is close in parameters to orthopedic, which improves the quality of night rest.

It is not difficult to lay out such a sofa: the part located under the seat is pulled forward, and with it the rest of the sections. A distinctive feature and an undoubted plus of the sofa with the Konrad mechanism is its compactness when folded and the ability to turn into a comfortable bed.

"Lit" or "Elf"

If you need to get a small place to sleep, then you should pay attention to compact models with the Lit or Elf mechanism. When unfolding, it will be enough to lower the adjustable armrest, and the sofa will turn into a comfortable single bed. In this case, the back does not move, and the seat becomes a sleeping place.

"Puma"

The Puma design differs from other models in that it does not touch the floor when unfolded. The mechanism is equipped with a special spring system that allows you to reduce the force during transformation: you need to grab the front edge of the seat, push it up and easily pull it towards you. The middle part of the bed gently rises from the inner space and takes its position.

The designs are very durable, they can be both straight and angular, while the latter have a box for linen.

With unfolding on the floor

This is the most budgetary model of all transformation mechanisms. Two sections of the bed are laid out directly on the floor, as they do not have supports. When folded, they are inside the case. For daily use, this type is not very comfortable. It is better to use it as a guest option.

"Spartacus"

The mechanism "Spartacus" resembles the "French cot", but has a welded grille, which strengthens the entire structure. Therefore, such models can be used for everyday use. The inconveniences are the same as in all folding beds: in order to unfold, you must first remove the pillows, and there is no box for storing linen.

"Recliner"

The Recliner sofa layout mechanism is equipped with a special system that allows you to change the angle of the backrest, and a footrest. Such models are high-tech, often have vibration massage systems and remote control using a remote control.

The sofa is designed taking into account the anatomical features of a person, so it is convenient to relax on it by adjusting the position of the back and stand. The disadvantages include the high cost and the impossibility of a full-fledged layout to get a bed.

Transformer

Models "Transformer" have a swivel type of unfolding, they look stylish and modern. Turning such a sofa into a bed is very simple: one part rolls back at an angle of 90 degrees and moves back. It turns out a spacious place to sleep.

For convenient unfolding, the sofa is equipped with rubberized wheels, so moving the swivel part is not difficult. The mobile module can also be moved in the opposite direction. Some models have a fold down back and all have two large storage drawers.

"Caravan" and "Daytona"

"Caravan" allows you to transform a sofa into a bed due to a complex metal structure. The main plus is that it unfolds in just one movement, and in its normal state it takes up little space. This makes it possible to install such models in small spaces. They fit especially well in the interior of the children's room.

"Daytona" - the design of a new generation of double decomposition. To turn into a bed, you need to pull the backrest, which falls and wraps under the bed. It is very convenient that you do not need to remove the pillows during the transformation. Strength and durability is ensured by a metal welded frame and elastic straps. Great for daily use.

"Saber"

Refers to roll-out, but the design of the "Saber" is more complicated than that of similar models. The seat moves forward if the backrest is moved forward towards you. At the same time, the backrest and headrest tip over and lie on the spacious inner box. It turns out a bed on which you can sleep comfortably.

What to look for when choosing a sofa

When choosing, it is necessary to inspect the mechanism, ask the seller in detail about the pros and cons of various modifications. The service life of new furniture will depend on the correct selection of the design.

You can draw and take with you a plan of the room indicating the dimensions, so as not to be mistaken with the dimensions and accurately calculate how the model you like will be placed, whether there is enough space for unfolding.

It is worth clarifying information about the filler. Be sure to independently assemble and disassemble the sleeping system and make sure that the transformation is convenient.

Block filler

Manufacturers use a variety of materials to fill the soft parts of furniture: pillows, backs, seats, armrests.

 1. Spring blocks - provide additional comfort for the body during sleep, there are three types: dependent, "snake", independent.
 2. Polyurethane foam (PPU) or foam rubber - highly elastic and inexpensive, environmentally friendly, has good elasticity.
 3. Felt and padded jacket - natural materials, the first is obtained from sheep and goat wool, the second - from cotton wool. Felt acts as a protective layer for polyurethane foam and spring blocks, while their surface becomes more resistant to wear. The padded jacket is laid between layers of filler for increased comfort.
 4. Sintepon is an inexpensive and high-quality artificial filler that gives furniture softness, elasticity, is not susceptible to the formation of fungus, but does not hold its shape well.
 5. Hollofiber - looks like fluffy balls of different sizes, made from polyester fibers, quickly restores its original shape, warm and soft;
 6. Holcon (strutoplast) - elastic and warm, environmentally friendly, does not absorb moisture and odors.
 7. Periotek is a modern non-woven material consisting of polyester fibers, durable, resilient, breathable, fireproof.
 8. Struttofiber - wear-resistant, elastic.
 9. Latex is a natural material used in the manufacture of expensive models of upholstered furniture, has increased elasticity, is non-toxic, quickly restores its original shape, does not cause allergies, and has a long service life.

For sleep, it is preferable to choose models with spring blocks. They will give the body the greatest relaxation and proper rest. The main advantage of such systems is durability and strength.

It is important to understand the features of the device of various models before buying and choose the most suitable one depending on the purpose and frequency of use. Experts do not advise buying the cheapest options, because the quality will be low, and the service life will be short.
