How to embroider on a pillow. Do-it-yourself cross-stitching of a pillow and its design

Our life is decorated with little things - eye-pleasing trinkets that perform a decorative role, toys, figurines, paintings, napkins, sofa cushions. All of them are able to give the room a special charm and comfort. And the embroidery on the pillow will add even more charm to the interior.

cute hobby

Despite being absolutely busy with life's problems, people tend to find free time for creativity. For many, embroidery becomes an outlet in everyday worries. The history of this art is currently experiencing a rebirth - more and more people, of different ages and genders, are passionate about embroidery. The creation of these man-made paintings in various techniques is a very complex and painstaking task. But embroidery on a pillow is available to anyone who wants to be creative with a thread and a needle and at the same time decorate the interior of the room with something original.

Dumochki sofa - beautiful and bright

Pillow embroidery has been one of the most common ways to create coziness in a home for a long time. After all, all manual work had its own sacred meaning - such things served as amulets, protecting households from evil spirits. Keeping this purpose, sofa cushions over time have also become an indispensable decorative household item. Small ones began to be called dumka, apparently because they beckoned to take a nap on the couch, resting your head on their patterned surface, to relax, to think. Embroidery on a pillow could be very different in style, pattern, and technique.

beauty cross stitch

This, by the way, is not very difficult - embroidery. Sofa cushions decorated using this technique can be an excellent proof of this. After all, it is not at all necessary to embroider a multi-color picture on a sofa cushion. Sometimes one-, two-color ornament is quite enough. You can put it along the edge of the pillow or embroider a corner with a simple pattern - and an ordinary thing will immediately turn into something original.

In cross stitching, the most difficult thing is color transitions, when you need to accurately count the number of squares of a particular color. But if there are only one or two shades of floss, then there is absolutely no difficulty in such work.

And the crosses are different

The embroidery scheme for a pillow that will decorate the house can be very different, as well as the patterns with which it is decorated.

It is most convenient to embroider with the simplest cross stitch - a stitch along the diagonal of the square, from left to right, and then along the other diagonal - from right to left. With such crosses it is most convenient to embroider tracks and sections of the same color, changing the thread when moving to another section.

That is, first diagonal stitches are embroidered in one direction over all the squares of the same shade, then the same squares are quilted along the second diagonals in the opposite direction. Such a cross is the most primitive.

But there are also quite complicated ways - elongated crosses, when the stitch goes into two conditional squares. Or semi-elongated crosses - in one direction a stitch into two cells, and in the other - only one.

The so-called double or Bulgarian cross is even more difficult - the stitches are first made along two diagonals, and then along the centers of the sides of the cell - from bottom to top and from left to right. How to create a drawing, the needlewoman decides. But pillow cross-stitching still prefers the use of the most ordinary cross-stitch.

Different themes for every taste

In order to create a beautiful sofa cushion with your own hands, using an old type of needlework - cross stitch, you can use any patterns, any threads that you like and are suitable for a particular job.

Traditionally, they are used for this. They are strong and silky enough to make them comfortable to work with. And we don’t even have to talk about the color scheme, as manufacturers are trying to embody shades of all colors that the human eye can only distinguish in their product range.

But you can embroider with almost any thread, as long as they match the idea. As for the theme of embroidered sofa cushions, it, of course, can be very different - from classic bouquets to some technical scheme, if you like it. You can find some patterns divided into cells for the convenience of embroidery in our article.

All around

What is convenient embroidery on the pillow? The fact that it is absolutely not necessary to fill with patterns its entire field. Sometimes they are enough only on the corner, and your little thought will become the decoration of your favorite sofa. You can sew a pillowcase from several parts, one of which will be embroidered with a cross, and the rest will be just fabric. You can place the embroidered piece in the center or on the edge - as you see fit in a particular version.

How to properly use the fabric? You can choose a cut large enough to accommodate several medium-sized embroideries, make them all, and then use them in different pillows. This way you get a whole set of dumochek in the same style. If there is no piece of fabric suitable for stretching on the hoop, then it is extended with another fabric using running stitches. In any case, a sofa cushion embroidered with a cross is a cozy interior detail that is both decorative and practical, and therefore can be whatever you want.

For children - fairy tales

Undoubtedly, for a child, the world should be, first of all, joyful and interesting. And the interior of the children's room or children's corner must meet these requirements. Embroidery of children's pillows, made by the hands of loving relatives, can bring great joy to the baby if it depicts a favorite character from a fairy tale or cartoon.

And for the tiniest babies, you can embroider pillows for the crib. For example, decorate each with embroidery with a children's pattern, and then sew the sides into a crib from several small pillows. Things created with love with their own hands have the power of a talisman, as our ancestors believed.

For a long joy

Any manual work is labor, painstaking, thoughtful, creative. Undoubtedly, I want the results of creativity to please as long as possible. Therefore, when the embroidery is ready, it is washed and steamed from the wrong side through the fabric. Then collect the entire pillow. Embroidered products should be washed by hand, rinsing them in slightly salted water, then they are dried and ironed from the inside through the fabric, putting the fabric inside the product.

This is a cross stitch pillow. You can find ready-made schemes for such work, or you can break your favorite picture into cells yourself or use special computer programs for this.

With an ornament of just three or four shades, you can decorate a sofa cushion. We offer a pattern of 4 colors (it is presented below) - brown (K), green (G), blue (C), lilac (L). The ornament consists of successively repeating sections one after another. So, the top track is embroidered with the following rapport on 27 cells of the canvas:

  • 1 row - skip seven cells, 11 crosses K;
  • 2 row - skip 4 cells, 4 K, skip 9 cells, 4 K;
  • 3 row - skip 2 cells, 3 K, skip 9, 1 C, skip 5, 3 K;
  • 4 row - 4 K, skip 9, 3 C, 7 empty, 3 K;
  • 5 row - 1 K, 6 empty, 5 C, 4 empty, 4 Z, 4 empty, 1 K;
  • 6 row - 1 K, 4 empty, 2 C, 5 empty, 1 C, 2 empty, 6 Z, 3 empty, 1 K, 1 empty, 1 K;
  • 7 row - skip 10, 1 C, 2 empty, 1 C, skip 10, 1 K, 1 empty, 1 K;
  • 8 row - skip 2, 4 K, 4 empty, 1 C, 4 empty, 4 L, 4 empty, 3 K;
  • 9 row - 2 empty, 1 K, 2 skip, 2 K, 6 skip, 1 Z, 1 empty, 4 L, 1 C, 6 empty, 1 K;
  • 10 row - 1 K, 5 empty, 1 K, 5 empty, 2 Z, 1 empty, 4 L, 1 S, 1 skip, 2 S, 3 empty, 1 K;
  • 11 row - 2 K, 4 empty, 1 K, 5 empty, 2 Z, 1 empty, 1 L, 4 C, 1 empty, 3 C, 3 empty;
  • 12 row - 1 cell is empty, 2 K, 1 empty, 2 K, 6 empty, 2 Z, 6 empty, 1 L, 7 empty;
  • 13 row - 2 skip, 3 K, 7 empty, 2 Z, 4 empty, 2 C, 1 empty, 2 C, 4 empty;
  • 14 row - skip 13 cells, 1 Z, 4 empty, 2 C, 1 empty, 2 C.

Cross-stitch does not imply a description of the work in rows - the work uses patterns of a pattern decomposed into colored squares. The needlewoman independently calculates the number of cells of a particular color, changing the thread in the needle at a color change, or embroidering large sections in one color, sequentially counting row after row.

A sofa pillow-dumochka is a comfort in one of the corners of the house, created by the caring hands of a needlewoman for a long joy.

Currently, in any store you can buy beautiful decor items and stylishly equip the interior. But handmade things are much more expensive and more pleasant to the heart. Such products have internal energy, which is the best amulet for an apartment. The most ancient women's craft is embroidery, which helps to create masterpieces on garments, towels and pillows. The pillow, embroidered with your own hands, testifies to the unusual taste of the needlewoman, her skill and desire to create beauty for her home. In this article we will look at how to arrange embroidery in a pillow.

History of embroidered pillows

It is known from history that fabric-based pillows were used by the ancient Egyptians and Chinese. They were richly decorated, as they were a luxury item and were available only to the noble class. Precious stones and gold threads were used to decorate such products.

Greece and Rome were trendsetters in the use of beautiful sofa and bed cushions. In the Middle Ages, Europe was filled with a real boom in such luxurious household items. The European nobility acquired fashionable embroidered products for any money, which without fail constituted an indispensable attribute of secular boudoirs. At this time, many young girls of the poor class mastered various types of embroidery, later such a craft served as their income. But even in rich houses, ladies of the court learned the art of embroidery technique. Graceful well-groomed hands were always busy with some kind of needlework process, and most often these were small pillows that served as home decoration or were used as a present.

Important! Our ancestors had a peculiar cult of embroidery. Girls had to learn this skill from childhood, and by adolescence they had a set of dowry made by themselves. It was both clothing and bedding, decorated with embroidered ornaments. For any bride, handmade embroidered pillows were the value of a dowry.

In the modern world, not every woman is a needlewoman. Handmade embroidery is still in great demand and is very expensive. To master such beautiful art, you need to have a desire, make every effort and find a lot of free time.

Important! With time constraints or if needlework is at an early stage, you can use ready-made pillow embroidery kits offered by many manufacturers. Such a set consists of two blanks for the pillow - the front and bottom, patterns, threads and needles.

Cross stitch pillow

Currently, a very popular type of creativity is cross-stitching pillows. Such craftsmanship is based on the revived traditions of our ancestors. There is nothing surprising in this, since everything new in this world is a variant of the long-forgotten old. The pillow, which is decorated with cross stitch, can be presented as a great gift.

In stores, in the needlework department, there are various options for embroidery patterns, which allows you to create a real masterpiece based on children's motifs, floral patterns, ideas for newlyweds. A lot of people even embroider a family amulet. Handmade has a special value, so these gifts are kept for life. For our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, embroidered pillows were the main decoration of the house.

Important! Today, exquisitely designed embroidery is becoming a unique component of the interior. Decorative pillows, which are embroidered with a cross, are an indispensable attribute of both the bedroom and the living room. As a rule, they are matched to the color scheme of the furniture, the shade of the curtains or the tone of the wallpaper. Sometimes they are used for a bright accent against the background of dull shades, which creates a fun touch in the room.

The cross stitch process is one of the oldest and simplest embroidery techniques. The procedure itself is simple, and includes only two stitches that intersect with each other. But the compositions decorated in this technique are real masterpieces that fit perfectly into the overall interior. With the technique of cross-stitching pillows, no special preparatory work and materials are required. How to make a cross stitch pillow:

  • For the base, we choose any fabric, only so that the interweaving of cells is visible. As a material, you can use coarse calico, linen, tapestry fabric, cotton, special canvas.
  • For work, we prepare a ready-made stuffed pillow, material for the lower part of the product and fabric for the upper side of the fabric. We sew the pillowcase on three sides, then proceed to embroidery. But as practice shows, it is more convenient to first arrange embroidery.
  • We purchase a set for embroidering a pillow with a cross. Basically, the kit uses “stramin” fabric, which has a dense and rigid base with large weave stitches. Threads for such a canvas are used very voluminous, they are also suitable for knitting. The crosses look very large, but they look great on children's cheerful and bright pillows.
  • To make the work look thin and elegant, first of all, we embroider the picture on the pillow. From the edge of the canvas, be sure to leave allowances of 3-4 centimeters in order to subsequently sew the front side to the back of the product. For this purpose, we use any thread that is more suitable.

Important! It is undesirable to embroider in one thread, otherwise the picture is very faded. When embroidering pillows, woolen threads have proven themselves well - in the process of work they are not at all capricious.

  • When the process of embroidering the pillowcase is completed, we cut out the back side of the product along the front of the canvas.
  • For convenience, we sew a zipper on the side or in the middle, which allows you to complete the washing process at any time. Most often, the pillowcase is spent on three sides, after which the product is washed and ironed. After placing the pillow in the pillowcase, on the fourth side, the product is not tightly sewn up with a hand stitch. During use, thanks to this procedure, you can easily dissolve the seam and wash the pillowcase.

Sofa cushions embroidered with a cross

Basically, sofa products are embroidered with a cross. Pillows are embroidered exactly according to the same principle as any other work that is done with a cross. Pillows with an embroidered image look great on a sofa, armchair or ottoman.

To embroider a sofa cushion, you must have a pattern, in addition, you need to prepare the following materials:

  • canvas or stramin fabric;
  • a special marker used to mark the canvas;
  • ordinary scissors;
  • embroidery scheme;
  • needle;
  • magnifying glass in the presence of a small scheme.

To embroider a pillowcase with a cross, you need to follow simple steps. How to make a cross stitch pillow with your own hands:

  1. Thread the needle and fasten the thread to the canvas.
  2. Next, it is necessary to separate one thread from the bundle, fold it in half so that both the loop and the tail are at the bottom, and we thread the two ends that are connected into the needle.
  3. For the correct procedure for fixing the thread on the canvas, we introduce the thread from the wrong side to the front, while the tail remains on the wrong side.
  4. We make the stitch obliquely, then we again bring the thread to the wrong side, picking up the loop with the needle and tightening it. We fasten the loop not weakly and not tight.
  5. We again bring the needle “on the face”, and we get the first cross. By this principle, we make all the other crosses.

Features when working with canvas and diagram

All schemes are divided into squares - pillowcase embroidery is no exception. Therefore, it is necessary to draw exactly the same squares on the canvas. With this markup, it will be very easy and simple to embroider a pillow.

As a rule, always start embroidering from the center of the canvas. To determine the center point, the fabric of the canvas must be folded in half, then again in half. At the point of intersection of the bending lines, mark the center of the canvas and begin to draw the squares we need. Now we start the process of embroidery in the same way as we embroider a picture or some other product.

The use of embroidered pillows

A DIY cross stitch pillow can have a variety of uses. It can perfectly complement the interior, decorate the room for the holiday, or simply become an excellent and extraordinary gift.

Interior items:

  • You can decorate with embroidery both ordinary sleeping pillows and decorative items for a sofa. Coarse fiber material is used for sofa cushions, which lasts a long time. As a rule, they are decorated with rich ornaments of bright colors.
  • For the bedroom, pillows made of natural fabric with delicate embroidery are used. These include various petals, all kinds of flowers, pastel-colored wreaths. It is not necessary to pick up pillows with bright red embroidery for the bedroom interior. It is preferable to decorate bedding with drawings of muted tones that soothe the nervous system and please the eyes.

Important! Everyone chooses an embroidery application based on their own preferences. At the same time, the drawing should fit in and complement the overall composition of the interior.

  • In the children's room look great bright decorative pillows, which depict the characters of famous cartoons or pets.
  • For a room decorated in an oriental style, products with embroidered hieroglyphs are suitable.
  • A luxurious spacious living room can be perfectly emphasized by images of magnificent palaces, medieval knights and the theme of angels. The ideal option is when the embroidery technique is in harmony with the interior, decorated in the style of Provence, Rococo, Patchwork, Italian style and many others.
  • In the children's room, interesting decor items look great in the form of brightly embroidered toy pillows, which are hearts, suns, dolls, animals. On such pillows you can not only sleep at night, but during the day they can be used for various games. In addition, such toys are completely safe items.

Present

For any holiday, a pillow with cross-stitch embroidery with your own hands will serve as a great gift. The hero of the celebration, wedding or birthday will definitely appreciate such an exquisite decorative product. Moreover, it is not only a beautiful item, but also very convenient. And a gift that is embroidered with your own hands is valued much higher.

holiday decoration

Elegantly embroidered pillows look beautiful in the house. For the New Year or Easter, the apartment can be decorated with festively decorated decorative elements. For the New Year theme, Santa Claus embroidery-decoration with gifts or a Christmas tree with garlands is ideal. Such products create coziness, comfort and festive mood in the house.

Designation of the embroidered pattern

Each embroidered pattern on the pillow has some meaning:

  • Embroidered bunches of grapes denote a joyful mood and abundance.
  • Two doves or some other animals symbolize fidelity, love and family well-being.
  • Pillows decorated with angels are a talisman for children.
  • Pillowcases, which depict compositions of mountains or ripe spikelets, imply prosperity reigning in the house.

Important! For many people, such designations are very important, since embroidered amulets are characterized by positive energy and extraordinary power.

Cross Stitch Pillow Manufacturers

Not only creative craftswomen can decorate sofas and armchairs with embroidered products. For those who do not have time to do needlework or do not know this art, you can easily purchase ready-made embroidered products in any haberdashery department store. Manufacturers took care of the release of these products:

  • The branded products of the Golden Fleece, Vervaco, Riolis, and Diana firms have gained particular popularity.
  • Chinese manufacturers are actively offering their embroidered products. They are characterized by a very original pattern, which depicts embroidered hieroglyphs, compositions of people, animals, birds.
  • Recently, embroidered products with 3D effect have spread.

Important! With a limited budget, you can buy not embroidered pillows, but pillowcases. They are very easy to use as they are easy to wash.

How to sew a cross stitch pillow?

Many are interested in embroidering a pillow, but not everyone has information on how to sew it later, or not everyone has a sewing machine. You can sew a pillow without using sewing equipment, but for this you will have to take more time and choose the right fabric.

For this process, we are preparing:

  • embroidered front side of the pillow,
  • suitable material on the back,
  • interlining,
  • zipper with a size of 40-50 cm.

Important! If the embroidery pattern is made on a hard stramine, and not on a canvas fabric, then a dense material is chosen on the back side of the product, otherwise, in the vicinity of the stramine, the fabric may crumble.

How to sew a cross-stitch pillow with your own hands:

  • We pre-moisten the non-woven fabric and apply it to the wrong side of the embroidery. We glue it with an iron through a chintz or cotton fabric. With this procedure, the threads and tails of the embroidery are protected from unwanted blooming, the edge from shedding, and the pillow from being seen through the holes in the canvas fabric.

Important! Non-woven fabric is ironed only on embroidery so that the edges remain free.

  • We cut off the excess non-woven fabric, while leaving allowances of 2-3 cm on each side.
  • From a suitable fabric, cut out the desired piece of the prepared size. The width should match the embroidered part, and the length is cut 5-6 cm longer to sew in the zipper.

Important! When sewing in a zipper, you need to choose threads of the corresponding shade of crosses of the extreme row or a tone darker. In this case, the line on the stramine fabric is laid exactly between the borders of the crosses. With this method, the seam will not be noticeable.

  • You can also sew a zipper into the side seam of the product. If the zipper is sewn into the seam, then overcast the edges of the front and back of the pillowcase, then the zipper is sewn in.
  • There is another option for sewing a zipper on the back of the pillowcase. To do this, cut the back in a straight line to the size of the zipper. After the edges have been overcast, we smooth about 2 cm on the wrong side and we tack the zipper so that the teeth are not visible.

Important! To baste the lightning, it is necessary to smooth the allowance on the stramin fabric at the extreme point of the last cross.

  • We slightly open the zipper and grind the pillowcase from all sides of the product. The line at the same time passes along the line of the extreme cross.
  • We cut the allowances, while leaving about a centimeter, we also cut the corners in a diagonal direction. Leaving 2-3 centimeters, cut off the interlining.
  • We wrap the allowance on the back side of the pillowcase and iron it. Thus, the edges do not crumble.

Important! If the sewing process is performed without interlining, then the edges must be overcast.

  • We turn out the pillowcase. Using closed scissors or an unsharpened pencil, we turn the corners of the product.
  • We iron the edges of the product.
  • We insert a suitable pillow size inside a sewn pillowcase with an embroidered image, fasten the zipper and use the product for its intended purpose.
  • If until now you have doubted whether it is worth embroidering into a pillow, now you are definitely convinced that this idea is very useful and interesting. With the help of such decorative gizmos, you can definitely diversify the interior of any room, add your own unique flavor to it, and the embroidery process itself will definitely captivate you so much that it will be difficult for you to stop. New ideas and beautiful pictures will be created one by one, giving you a lot of fun!

Everyday life of a person is decorated with little things, often useless items that do not perform any practical function. For example, candlesticks, paintings, fabric toys, garlands. But without these things, the apartment looks gloomy, boring, too strict.

Such an element of decor as a pillow embroidered with a cross will bring warmth and comfort to the design of the room.

In a thing made with his own hands, the master puts a piece of his soul.

The most unusual decoration of the room are pillows with embroidered ornaments. This accessory is also used by restaurant designers to give the catering place a special homely atmosphere. Cross-stitching various pillows is not only a cute hobby, but a real art.

Pillow embroidery in Russia was one of the favorite activities of Russian women.

You can choose threads to create an ornament so that they are in harmony with the color of other things. For example, with the color of the sofa. Despite the hard, stressful city life, people try to find a cute hobby that will make their life more romantic.

The cross was considered a talisman against the evil eye and evil spirits, it guarded and cleansed from all evil.

Creating a beautiful interior item is a kind of outlet, an opportunity to escape into your own world. It is believed that embroidery with threads is a very painstaking work that takes a lot of useful time. But, if we calculate how much time we spend buying products, surfing the Internet, reading useless news (scandals, gossip), watching useless TV shows, traveling in transport, you come to the conclusion that needlework does not take much time. You just need to abandon the "useless" time wasters and spend them on art.

Shirts and sundresses, as well as towels, tablecloths and pillows were embroidered with a cross.

It was hard to find a house without embroidered pillows.

Ideas and patterns for cross-stitching sofa cushions

Ornaments, schemes are selected based on the style of the room. There are several techniques for making a pattern on a pillow. The most popular technique is hand cross stitch.

There is a belief that a pillow embroidered with a cross brings good to everyone who uses it.

The monochrome ornament does not lose popularity. For example, a winter-themed landscape embroidered with one thread.

Now you can embroider a pillow with a cross with absolutely any pattern.

The fashion trend is also "Modern" or "Art Nouveau". Ornaments in the Art Nouveau style are used to process pillows, sachets, interior paintings that adorn the shelves, greeting cards. Inspiration can be drawn from the encyclopedia “Art Nouveau. Cross Stitch".

You can choose just a neutral theme, for example, patterns, ornaments, flowers.

It is not necessary to embroider a multi-color landscape with complex color transitions and buy a lot of thread. You can create a drawing of four, or even three of their shades, and it will look no less impressive. Using a small amount of thread is also good because it is easier to count the crosses. By the way, the selection of threads that are in harmony with each other is the most difficult stage of work if you embroider (no matter what technique, cross stitch or smooth stitch).

If you want to bring something new to your interior without noticeable expenses? Original handmade pillows will come to the rescue!

An ordinary cross is the simplest element to perform. There are several sources that they rely on if they want to create drawings with threads. For example, ready-made beautiful schemes are sold for beginners, allowing you not to bother with what threads and how much canvas to buy.

Cross embroidered pillows will look great in a child's room.

At first glance, they may seem expensive. But if you take into account how much time a person spends on selecting and counting all the components of an embroidery, then you come to the conclusion that ready-made schemes allow you to save. The ornament embroidered on canvas can be easily used when sewing a pillow.

For beginners who think that sofa cushions are not yet their strength, you can start by making pincushions.

The second option is to create an original scheme using a special program on the Internet, which converts an ordinary picture or photograph into a cross-stitch scheme. Such a program is available to everyone, absolutely free and easy to find. She not only "translates" the picture into a scheme, but also selects the shades of threads that should be bought to create this picture.

When decorating your baby's nursery, you can add a drop of care and warmth by embroidering original accessories for children.

A simple cross stitch pattern for a pillow: an ornament

If the creator does not know which ornament to choose, he can resort to a universal option: a red ornament on a light background of a pillow. A light pillow with a neat red ornament looks almost luxurious, and you can give it to a friend for the New Year. The red and white ornament looks dynamic and cozy at the same time. Such a chic pillow is uplifting, but does not look clumsy. In addition, repeating patterns are easy to create.

An embroidered pillow with your own hands can decorate your interior and make your home more comfortable.

To give the pattern a more effective and neat look, you can process the edge of the product with a two-color or one-color ornament, creating an embroidered frame. If the drawing is quite simple and uncomplicated, it will “play out” in the frame and will look quite expensive. This trick was used by masters who created postcards and interior gizmos in the Art Nouveau style.

Things that are created by hand are considered much nicer and more expensive for us.

Botanical cross-stitch - patterns of embroidery on the theme of wild flowers

Flowers are a universal version of embroidery for all time. They can be created in winter to cheer yourself up and give the room brightness, summer warmth, in autumn - so as not to get depressed. There are many color schemes on the Internet. Various weeds, grasses, as well as dandelions, both ripe and April, are successful.

Such things contain internal energy, which is a strong talisman for our home.

The pillow, embroidered by yourself, speaks of the skills and tastes of the craftswoman, her skill and desire to create something beautiful for her interior.

Beautiful and bright sofa cushions with flowers transform the gray interior. Do-it-yourself things protect you from all the bad things that you can bring from the street with you into the house. Therefore, earlier an embroidered pillow was in every home. If the pillow was small, then it was called a thought. Linguists still cannot agree on why the accessory was called that way. Perhaps because on the pillow, which was embroidered with one's own hands, it was pleasant to rest, unload the psyche, and when the brain is relaxed, it is easier to think.

Our ancestors had a peculiar cult of embroidery. The girl from childhood had to learn this art.

Fashionable patterns of pillows embroidered with a cross

A popular trend in embroidery is the "heavenly" theme, for example, stars, planets. In the works of 2018, you can even see shiny lurex elements. They do not decorate the whole picture, but only small, individual details. For example, the eyes of a unicorn, horse, fairy.

Embroidery made by hand is still in demand and value, so its cost is also too high.

The trend is also a monochrome pillow. Needleworkers do not want to spend a lot of time counting and selecting threads of different colors, so they came up with monochrome paintings, for example, in beige or pale blue, which look very beautiful, but are easy to create. Cross-stitching a pillow with a monochrome picture does not have to be accompanied by the use of only one color of thread. You can decorate the picture with a splash of color. For example, make a gray character have orange eyes.

In order to master such a skill, you need to have a certain desire, make the maximum amount of effort and find a large amount of free time.

Cross stitch material for pillow

How beautiful the finished thing will look depends not only on the pattern that the embroiderer chooses. First you need to buy a good canvas and high-quality threads. Anyone who embroiders without a hoop should take a closer look at the compacted, dense canvas treated with a special substance. You can find this fabric at a craft store. In principle, you can embroider on any canvas or fabric purchased, for example, in a linen store. But on a special, dense fabric with a large canvas, it is undoubtedly more convenient.

When needlework is just beginning to be studied, you can use ready-made kits for embroidery, which are sold in special sewing stores.

Especially carefully you need to choose threads. If the choice of fabric is rather a matter of taste, then almost everything depends on the quality of the threads: both the pleasure from the creative process and the look of the finished thing. Do not buy the cheapest threads. They get confused in the process of work, are collected in knots. It is better to purchase high-quality threads "Maderina" or "DSM".

They are silky, elastic, wear-resistant, have rich colors.

Assembling the pillow after embroidery

Cross-stitching a pillow consists of two stages: creating a pattern and sewing the pillow itself.

The pillow, which is decorated with cross-stitch, can be a great gift for loved ones and relatives.

Making a sofa cushion is no fundamentally different from sewing a regular living room accessory without embroidery. You just need to cut out a round or square silhouette from the fabric, overcast the edges, and then fold the two fabric elements together and sew them inside out, leaving a free gap for the filler. This procedure is easy to do manually if the pillow is small (less than the standard 40X40). After the rag parts are sewn together, the pillowcase must be turned right side out, filled with fiberglass and the remaining edge of the pillow sewn up.

Handmade has a special value, so these gifts are kept with you for a long period of your life.

If the embroidery was created on a special linen material, then nothing additionally needs to be sewn on.

Today, beautifully designed embroidery is becoming a unique and unusual component in absolutely any interior.

In the next master class, I will introduce you to another way to sew cross-stitch pillows with your own hands. Unlike the previous pillow with embroidery, it is easier to cut it. The pattern of this pillow consists of four squares of the same size, one part is the prepared cross stitch, the other is the bottom of the pillow and two squares of lining fabric. But a certain difficulty in sewing this decorative pillow will be the piping insert. Kant I chose furniture, or rather for upholstered furniture. This piping is quite stiff and has a large section, but it is ideal in color and size for the prepared embroidery. And since the future pillow promised to look very rich and stylish, I also bought velvet for the reverse side. The choice of materials and the shape of the decorative pillow was influenced by the embroidery I have already embroidered and its color scheme. The scheme was developed by Vadim, and he made it from the elements of Russian cross-stitch patterns. It turned out a kind of patchwork embroidery.

So, for a pillow with cross stitch you will need:
Prepared cross stitch
Two pieces of fabric for the lining in cross stitch size.
Material for the bottom of the pillow.
Decorative furniture edging.
Lightning.
Needle, thread, pins, sewing machine.

We cut out two pieces of fabric for the lining in the size of the embroidery and one piece of the same size for the bottom of the pillow.
First, prepare the bottom of the pillow.

Place a piece of lining fabric together on the wrong side of the fabric and baste them together. For now, let's put it aside.
Now let's start sewing the upper decorative side of the pillow.

We also fold the lining with the wrong side of the cross stitch and sweep them together. The embroidery must already be prepared - washed and ironed. I already wrote how to prepare cross stitch for a pillow.

Furniture edging for upholstered furniture looks like this: a twisted rope is attached to the tape. This ribbon will be sewn to the fabric. Pay attention to the photo of the furniture edging. You can see that there is a line next to the sewn tape. When basting the piping with the top of the workpiece, I placed the line on the front side of the pillow, then I will explain why.

We attach the piping to the front side of the embroidery. I didn’t want to make sharp corners in the pillow, so I turn the edge cuts along the edges of each side a little towards the cut of the fabric. Do this on all four sides.

When attaching a piping on a typewriter, use a special foot for embroidering zippers. With another foot, sewing an edging close to the cord itself will not work. I have lining and right sides of fabrics that are different in size (the lining fabric I had was slightly smaller), so I sewed the piping so far from the edge, and you have the edge of the fabric and the edge of the piping trim should match.

For strength, I sewed all the corners obliquely in order to better fix the edge.
Now you need to sew a zipper along one of the edges. I used a hidden zipper. Unfortunately, I could not find a red color, and I had to sew in a white zipper. But the presence of white edging eliminates this drawback.

The size of the hole for inserting the pillow is 10 cm smaller. than the side of the pillow. Therefore, we sew a zipper at a distance of 5 cm. from each end. If you have a smaller zipper, you can sew that in as well. The most important thing is that the hole in the decorative pillowcase is large enough to push the pillow itself through. We unzip the zipper. We sew one part of it to the front side of the pillow, then the other to the underside of the pillow, having previously aligned them at the beginning in a zipper.

In the photo, I align by attaching a needle.

We fold the sections where the zipper is sewn together and from the wrong side we grind the edges of the fabric from the zipper to one side and the other.

Now chop off all layers of fabric around the perimeter of the pillow and sew on a typewriter. Trim all sections of the fabric and stitch in a zigzag.

I want to remind you that I sewed the edging with a line to the front side of the pillow. I did this on purpose to be able to hem the piping behind this line to the canvas with hidden stitches.

This operation slightly drowned the edge inside the pillow. This gave a cleaner look to my product.

It remains to put a pillow in an elegant pillowcase and the gift is ready.

It turned out very stylish, fashionable, modern. I made this pillow as a gift for my children, who will soon have their first wedding anniversary. I was pleased with the result of creativity. Hope the kids enjoy it too.

On the forest edge
In the house; by the old fireplace
Let's make warm tea for two mugs,
With notes of sandalwood & jasmine.

Barefoot on the floor, and to the window ...
White snowflakes sparkled.
A cat is snoozing quietly on the couch.
Finally, with the misfortunes said goodbye ...

I am calm and comfortable with you.
Don't want to change anything...
I appreciate every minute now.
Like a girl, I rejoice again ...

On the forest edge
In the house, by the old fireplace
Let's make two mugs of warm tea.
And worries will pass by ...

Cozy evening everyone
