Folding metal goats with their own hands. Universal folding goats

The simplest device for sawing firewood - goats, allows you to process cubic meters of wood raw materials, make a neat cut of a board or a metal plank. The classic look of the machine is represented by a simple design. The material for the manufacture of wood sawing equipment is more than available and is chosen at your discretion: wooden beams, thin tree trunks, metal profiles, scrap metal at hand.

How to make goats for sawing firewood according to the rules of ergonomics

Like any machine, a sawing unit requires preparation for its manufacture, thinking over the design, making a sketch or drawing with sizing, indicating small details, choosing the angle of inclination of the supports, and the height of the horns. A careful approach will save you from subsequent refinement, speed up assembly, and help create the prerequisites for effective work.

Accurately selected dimensions and dimensions of the goats allow you to assemble a light, stable and easy-to-use frame for sawing logs. The overall dimension should take into account the comfortable and convenient use of the machine:

  • worker growth,
  • type of tool
  • type of wood being cut.

The height of the log affects the duration of sawing. The optimal height of the crossbar-support for laying raw materials is 90 - 110 cm, the size allows you to work in a free natural position, without bending your back or placing your hand above the horizontal.

The work tool predetermines the mounting of additional elements on the trestle. Working with a two-handed saw requires a hand rest. A simple stop is made from wood inserted into the goats.

The use of a chainsaw for the preparation of chocks requires a strong material for the upper part of the goat and a different design. The technology of working with modern cutting tools requires maximum space for free hanging of one of the ends of the log in order to remove the possibility of clamping the blade.

How to make goats for sawing firewood with a regular saw

Here are the overall dimensions and detailed instructions for the manufacture of light, durable and comfortable goats.

For work, prepare the material from the list:

  • For the base. A piece of bar with a section of 100x100 mm. Cut length 1.1+/- 00.5 m.
  • For legs. Segments of bars with a section of 50x50 mm. Quantity - 4 units. Length 1.1 +/-0.05 m.
  • Under the horns. Segments of bars with a section of 50x50 mm. Quantity - 2 units. Length 360 m.
  • For amplifiers under the legs. Segments of a bar of an inch section. Quantity - 2 units. Length 1.3m.
  • 3 dozen self-tapping screws 45x100 mm.
  • Preparation for protection of wooden surfaces from rotting, wood stain.

The proposed list is not mandatory. Materials are selected from the presence in the own household of residues from previous construction works.

To work, you need a set of tools:

  • Construction corner.
  • Soft simple pencil.
  • Wood saw.
  • Ordinary hammer.
  • Chisels.
  • Construction roll.
  • Flat and Phillips screwdrivers.
  • Paint brush 4-5 cm.

Mark the beam for the base for 12 cuts, 6 pieces on each side, 2.5 cm deep. These will be the grooves for the horns and legs. Helpful advice. The cuts are made 2-3 mm narrower than 50 mm, for a dense, tight fit, insertion of 50x50 mm bars.

Cuts are selected with a chisel and a hammer, sawn-to-size bars are inserted into the resulting grooves. Fastening with self-tapping screws.

On the bars of an inch section, places are marked for mounting amplifiers, which ensure the strength of the structure and remove the possibility of legs divergence under load. The end segments are sawn off with a hacksaw, the length is selected flush with the legs. The ends of the legs resting on the ground are sawn off at an angle.

Ready goats are treated with stain. After drying, a simple machine is ready for use.

Making goats for sawing with a two-handed saw

Cutting logs with a two-handed saw causes loosening of the machine due to the alternating shear force and causes the narrow trestle to tip over. X-shaped racks for a sawing unit for a two-handed saw are made of thick, good quality wood with a cross section of 10 cm or more, using a metal puff or a wooden block for screeding. The width of the lower support of the racks is made 10-15 cm larger than the distance from the surface to the top of the tie bar. In the case of connecting the support crosses with a wooden screed, they are additionally strapped with a thin beam, strengthening and giving the structure rigidity and stability.

Dimensions for the manufacture of goats are taken similarly to the dimensions for a simple design, with adjustments for the dimensions for the lower support.

How to make homemade folding goats out of wood

Firewood is harvested seasonally. The used sawing machine in the rest of the period gathers dust, decays and occupies usable space. The model of folding goats will help to resolve the issue of rational warehousing, it will come in handy when conducting field logging.

For the manufacture of the model you will need material:

  • Wooden bars. Quantity - 4 units.
  • Metal pipe 1-1.3 m long. Quantity - 1 unit.
  • Limiter for connecting legs: cable, chain, belt, rope.
  • Drill for wood with a maximum diameter.

Simplicity of design is combined with ease of manufacture. Bars of the same size are taken ready-made or unraveled from a 50 mm board. On each bar, a place is marked for a hole with a diameter of 1-2 mm less than the diameter of the pipe and drilled through with a punch. The pair connection of the bars is performed by a limiter. The length of the limiter is selected according to the opening angle of the goat 350-450.

Proper assembly allows you to fold the bars in one plane and remove the goats until needed.

How to make metal goats for sawing firewood

Metal goats have a longer working life and compact dimensions, unlike classic wooden structures. To make metal goats at home, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • Corner/profile pipe 50x50mm.
  • Wooden beam 50x59mm. Length 5-10 cm.
  • Bulgarian or hacksaw for metal.
  • Construction centimeter or tape measure.
  • Bolts for connection or welding machine.

According to a sketch drawn up in advance, with affixed and verified dimensions, the base beam is cut off, the places for attaching the legs and stags are outlined. The remaining parts of the structure are cut. The connection option is selected. For a collapsible design, the parts are connected with bolts. For a stationary goat, parts are welded. A piece of timber 50x50 mm is fixed to a longitudinal corner or pipe fastening the racks. This is a precautionary measure and protection of the saw teeth, the contact of the working surface of the teeth with the metal body of the goats is excluded.

The cost of a homemade metal model is high and is comparable to the price of an assembled finished goat model in the construction market for tools and equipment.

The range covers small machines intended for private use, and ends with large, dimensional machines for large-scale production. Price limits from $12 to $500. The choice of model is made according to the expected load on the bed, the length and thickness of the working forest.

European manufacturers offer inexpensive goats for sawing firewood. Many Ukrainian distributors offer to buy the selected model with delivery. For example, the German company MB exhibits models on the Ukrainian market from $11. The difference between high-quality goats for sawing from Germany and similar Chinese specimens is in the composition and strength of the metal, equipment of machine tools with additional elements. A serrated edge is provided to increase grip, reduce slipping and turning of the log during operation, compact aesthetic design, joints and edges treated with an anti-corrosion compound.

How to make your own goats for sawing firewood with a chainsaw

The popularity of using a chainsaw for cutting firewood is associated with the low price of the tool, ease of operation and the speed of performing a large amount of work. In comparison with the traditional method of manual sawing, the productivity of a chainsaw is ten times greater, and the ease of work is several orders of magnitude higher.

The owner of a modern tool is offered an original and convenient design of goats. Cutting a log with a chainsaw on a classic X-shaped stand can cause the chain to pinch during cutting. To prevent jamming of the chain saw, the worker has to turn the log over by hand with the cut down to complete the cut. It is safer to cut the free-protruding end of the line.

For sawing wood with a chainsaw, improved metal goats are used. A toothed grip is installed on one of the ends of the machine or a steel chain is welded. Having extended one end of the log as much as possible, the second is securely clamped in the fixture.

For private sawmills or large farms for the harvesting and processing of waste from scaffolding, slabs, trimmings of boards, slats, beams, the industry produces versatile, convenient sawing goats. The machine makes it possible to stack all the timber intended for processing in a dense pile, fix it with a special device, eliminating the possibility of sprawl or unexpected rebound of scraps during the cut. Models start at $80.

The unsightly design of the goat is transformed, if desired, into a modern aesthetic appearance, with the expansion of the basic functionality of the machine. The manufacturing scheme of the sawing machine remains the same: legs with horns and a connecting body.

  • Changes will affect the material used:
    • Replace the log with a wide board and place it on edge.
    • X-shaped legs are made not from bars, but from the available metal profile.
    • Assemble a typesetting board from narrow boards, cover with a multi-colored antifungal preparation.
    • Attach supports to the base-panel, previously bent from the upper and lower ends of the support. Use bolts with a wing nut as a connector. Choose an arbitrary bending angle, taking into account the possibility of placing a large log in rogulins. Perform the lower step taking into account the stability of the structure.

The versatility of the made goats lies in the extraordinary design and extended functionality of the horns. After assembly, the legs bent at an angle form a vertical crevice, which conveniently accepts a log of any diameter, boards, beams. Sawing a canvas of a complex, inconvenient configuration will become easy and safe.

  • To the previous design of the modernized goat, add intermediate horns. This will allow you to cut short bars, blanks, boards, branches. The collapsible design of the goat allows you to use the machine in a utility room and in a limited area, for example, on the roof, in the attic when repairing or installing a new ceiling.
  • In a small room, the unification of the goat can be brought to perfection. When assembling, leave the long upper end of the horns, mark 2/3 of the length and make a bend at 900 to the vertical in a vice.
  • If necessary, a flat plank is laid on the horizontal horns and an impromptu table is obtained. Having provided a method for attaching a plank to curved horns, a mobile surface for attaching a vise, a verstal plane, and a tabletop are obtained. A flat panel for the time of settling a goat is turned into a plane for hanging shelves, drawers for tools.
  • For beginners in carpentry, advice on assembling a goat from bars. The first bar is passed under the cross, and the subsequent ones are used to connect the legs.
  • In order to facilitate unscrewing and protect the bolts from corrosive oxidation, a lubricant is applied to the nut threads before starting work.

In construction or repair, work at height is expected. Sometimes you have to rise above your height, so you can’t do without special devices. Masters are drawn to the ladders, but such a device limits the freedom of action.

The industry has not yet advanced so far that such structures are mass-produced in factories, but you can make building goats with your own hands.

It is inconvenient to hold water-based paint on the steps and at the same time work with a roller. Scaffolding is used here, popularly simply called goats. Such a structure can be climbed with an assistant to carry out the planned amount of work twice as fast. The second advantage - there is where to lay out the working tool and material - everything you need is at hand.

How to make construction goats with your own hands, let's figure it out in order.

Analysis of the concept of "construction goats"

The etymology of the term has not been reliably studied to date. But some masters make assumptions.

The scaffold is a design that is distinguished by practicality and versatility. The presence of goats for the period of repair allows you to forget about the discomfort during high-altitude work.

Using this design, the repairman has the opportunity not only to work under the ceiling, but also to work out the section of the wall near which the structure stands. In this case, the master has complete freedom to move around the room without much effort. Construction goats are light and not bulky, therefore they are easily transferred or dragged to the right place.

Species diversity of building goats

According to the type of material used in the manufacturing process, there are:

  • wooden building scaffolds;
  • metal building scaffolds;
  • combined scaffolds.

Consider how to make wooden goats (construction) with your own hands.

Features of using scaffolds

If necessary, scaffolds are made along the entire length of the wall. They take with them a bucket, painting tools, all the necessary materials and even apprentices. So the need to constantly jump off or bring the material is eliminated. The stand will have to be moved less frequently. You will notice this, especially if you had to work with a ladder.

If you have 3-4 goats, you can make an impromptu portable workbench with your own hands, equipped with a primitive vise or other fixing element. From it you can make, as shown in the photo below, do-it-yourself goats, which are easily used for assembly or repair, cutting or cutting parts.

Subtleties of designing scaffolds

Folding construction goats differ in practicality. This is a good option for those who want to keep everything at hand, while classic scaffold models take up a lot of space and get in the way if construction or renovation is not planned. Therefore, the prefabricated version is the best solution for practical people and will suit the yard of the owner of a summer house or a country cottage.

Looking at just one photo, it is easy to see that the scaffold is a simple four-legged structure.

All that remains is to decide on the linear dimensions of the structure. The main parameter is the height of the legs.

It has been experimentally established that the optimal height of a "construction goat" made by one's own hands is the growth of a master working at height, minus 10-15 centimeters. The number of spacers for structural rigidity and the cross section of the beam for constructing the frame is arbitrary.

To connect the upper ends of the frames, ordinary door fittings are used - canopies. The legs are fixed with limiters or replaced with a rafter tape, which is fixed on the lower struts, adjusting the height and distance until the maximum stability of the structure is achieved.

Transforming building scaffolds

Now let's talk about the technology for the production of do-it-yourself collapsible goats. You can also use good old nails to connect all the parts together. Only the technology does not differ in practicality and reliability, in comparison with the assembly of the scaffold on special self-tapping screws. To do this, you will need wood screws and a screwdriver.

If necessary, you can disassemble the structure, although you will have to work with a hammer and crowbar. Choose the option that is closer and more convenient for you. During the construction process, follow the instructions to get a really reliable scaffold and not fall off it during the work.

Work area

The space where it is planned to carry out work on construction goats is called a site. Boards are installed on the scaffold, and the size of the surface is selected individually, based on needs.

Do-it-yourself building goats made of wood must withstand a weight no less than the body weight of a person working on a scaffold along with tools and materials placed on the site. The optimal figure is considered to be 150-170 kilograms. In terms of dimensions, the site should be such that it fits into the doorway in the house, that is, up to 70 centimeters. Despite the fact that it is possible to make construction goats for the entire length of the wall, the craftsmen recommend not to get carried away and construct scaffolds no longer than 150 centimeters long. Otherwise, it will be inconvenient to maneuver.

Now you have an idea about how to make building goats with your own hands. With such auxiliary construction equipment, it is easier to erect a structure or repair a house, because you can reach any surface and even the ceiling.

Goats are the simplest device for sawing firewood. They make it possible to process wood raw materials, it is also possible to cut boards or metal strips. Classic options have a simple design. In order to make wooden goats, you can choose one of the following materials: wooden beams, a thin trunk of a tree, metal profiles or scrap metal.

Wooden goat for a summer residence

In order to make wooden goats with your own hands, you need to prepare the surface of the material. It is also necessary to carefully consider the design of our workpiece, to make sketches with the determination of the dimensions of these parts. It is better to think carefully at first, so that later repair work is not needed. Correctly chosen parameters and dimensions of such wood blanks allow you to assemble a fairly stable and at the same time comfortable frame for work, which is designed for sawing firewood.

The size of our workpiece should take into account the convenient use of the machine:

  • man's height,
  • tool,
  • sawn wood species.

The height of the tree depends on the duration of sawing firewood. The most acceptable height of the crossbar - supports in order to lay raw materials, reaches about 100 centimeters, this size allows you to work in a natural state, without having to bend your back or place your arms above the horizontal.

Making folding goats from wood

Firewood must be harvested for certain seasons. The used sawing machine collects dust the rest of the time. If you decide to make goats for sawing firewood with your own hands, then you should decide the following points: rationally store them, whether the device will be used by you during field logging.

If you decide to make goats for cutting firewood with your own hands, then the following materials will come in handy:

  • four pieces of wooden bars;
  • metal pipe, the length of which is about a meter;
  • limiters for connecting the legs, it can be a cable or a chain.
  • wood drill.

Manufacturing is as simple as the design of our summer cottage itself. It is necessary to take bars that have the same size. On each bar, you need to mark the area for drilling and drill holes.

An important point: if the assembly was done correctly, then the bars can be made in a single surface and the goats can be removed until they are useful.

Production of metal goats for sawing firewood

To make metal goats with your own hands, you must first determine the working resource and small dimensions, comparing with the classic wooden version of the design. In order to make it with your own hands from metal, it will be necessary to prepare materials and the following tools for further work:

  • corner;
  • timber beam, which has dimensions of 45 by 50 mm;
  • Bulgarian;
  • centimeter for construction work;
  • bolts to connect all parts of our homemade design.

According to the drawing made in advance, on which dimensions should be put down, we outline the areas for attaching stags with legs. We cut the remaining areas of our workpiece. You must select a connection method. In order for the design of our workpiece to be collapsible, the parts must be connected with bolts. And in the case of a stationary structure, welding is used. On the longitudinal pipe, which fastens the racks, it is necessary to fix a part of the beam with dimensions of approximately 45 by 45 mm.

Goat with metal legs

The price of a home-made metal blank is quite low, compared with the cost of finished models that are offered today on the markets for such garden equipment. In the model ranges there are small specimens that are used for permanent use, and there are also large models that are designed for large productions. The price of such blanks varies from 15 to 400 dollars. You should choose a specific one that you will do on the tool.

The ugly design of our workpiece can be transformed into an interesting aesthetic appearance by expanding the basic functionality of the machine. The scheme for the production of sawing machines is still the same as all those presented above: the legs have horns that are connected to the main body of the structure.

Modifications will affect the materials used:

  1. You can use wide boards instead of logs.
  2. Legs can also be made from metal profiles.
  3. You can make a base from rather narrow boards, cover it with a multi-colored antifungal preparation on top.

The process of manufacturing our blank for giving consists of the following steps:

  1. We attach supports to the base of our workpiece, which must be bent in advance from both ends.
  2. Bolts with wing nuts are used as a connector.
  3. Any bending angle should be chosen, while taking into account the possibilities of a large log in rogulins.
  4. The bottom step must be done taking into account the stability of the structure.
  5. The versatility of the blank for giving lies in the fact that an unusual appearance is obtained and this design has extended functional horns.

The legs bent at a certain angle in the further assembly form a vertically directed crevice, which comfortably accommodates a tree of any diameter. Cutting a tree with the wrong configuration will be simple and at the same time as safe as possible.

Goat from the boards

Horns can be attached to the structure model described above. This will make it possible to cut small bars, blanks, and so on. Thanks to the collapsible design of such a structure, it is possible to use the machine in utility rooms and in a small area, for example, on the roof area, in the attic during repair work.

In a small room, unification can be perfected. During assembly, leave the upper part of the horns and cut out a 90% bend to the vertical in the vise area.

If necessary, for horizontally placed horns can be laid flat plank and get improvised table . Having considered the method of fastening the plank to the horns, one can get a mobile version in order to fasten a vice, verstal planes, and also tabletops. Flat boards for the period of sedimentation of the structure are made from it in a plane in order to hang shelves for tools.

Wooden scaffolding, in other words goats, for repairs.

If the theater begins with a hanger, then repairs in the room always begin with the assembly of wooden scaffolds or, as they are colloquially called, goats. The reliability of the "goats" determines how safely and quickly you will carry out all the repair work of the apartment, as well as the speed of finishing work.

Additionally, of course, you will need a hanger, a wall ladder and a dining table.

In this article I will tell and show in photographs how and with what tool you need to collect "goats" and how much material is needed for this.

When I use the word "goat" in the article, then you know that this is such a table for temporary use during repairs. It is made by builders and finishers to gain access to the top of the walls or to the ceiling for repairs. Therefore, I will not put quotes.

For the goat, the material is selected completely dry and light. And, of course, not very expensive. Remember that it will need to be moved frequently and carried from one place to another.

You also take the tool of choice. If you are going to twist the details of the goat with self-tapping screws, then you need a screwdriver, but it is better to have a drill with a nozzle for this (a bat for wood screws).

If you will be joining parts with nails, which of course I do not welcome when assembling goats, then you will need a hammer. To cut wooden parts, you need a hacksaw or an electric jigsaw. But I always use a hand-held circular saw.

Well, to mark our future details of the goat, you need a pencil with a tape measure and a square.

From the material I always choose edged pine board and wood screws 55-60 mm.

To assemble two goats, we need 3-meter boards 150 mm wide and 30 mm thick.

The height of the goats is easily determined: you need to take a tape measure and measure the distance from the ceiling to the head of a working person and subtract about 150-200 mm from this distance.

Well, that is, with an average ceiling height in apartments (2.6 m), the goat is made about 0.9 m high.

So, the first thing we need to do is the main sites of our future goats, on which all work will be carried out. These platforms should have enough space for the one who will work on the goat. And you also need a place under the basin with a solution that weighs about 40-50 kg. Accordingly, the site must be strong and stable, our future goat must withstand a load of at least 150 kg.

In this case, it is always necessary to take into account the width of the main light doorways so that we can move our future goat to any room in our apartment. Since the light doorways without installed doors are not less than 700 mm, the platform for the goats must be made 600 mm. The exception is the bathrooms, where with the installed door with a door leaf width of 600 mm, the goat will not crawl through.

But it will not be needed there, since all types of work at a height - plastering walls, laying tiles on the floor and walls, installing the ceiling, as well as grouting tile joints will already be completed, and after installing the door there will be nothing to do with the goats .Repair and Construction DIY ladder

We need only 16 meters of basic whole boards for making shields for a pair of goats and a shield for a table, that is, 5 whole 3-meter boards and another 1 m of board. We cut all other boards along the length with a manual circular saw into two halves.

For the main goat shields we take our first four full 3m boards. We find the middle of the board on the tape measure and cut them in half. So we will have the base ready: two main platforms for goats 600 mm wide and 1500 mm long.

Then we need to cut our remaining boards with a hand circular saw. From these narrow boards, 30 mm x 75 mm in size and 3000 mm long, obtained in the process of cutting, we will make the rest of the parts (blanks) for our goat. This is done so that the goat is not so heavy and can be moved by one person.

We saw off 4 blanks of 600 mm from them and fasten our separate four boards into a shield.

We fasten the crossbars that fasten the boards into a shield with self-tapping screws at a distance of 150 mm from the edge of the boards. We fasten each board with 4 self-tapping screws.

Now we need to make the following: 8 blanks 900 mm long for four pairs of legs of two goats, 4 blanks 650 mm each for the lower steps and 4 blanks 550 mm each for the upper steps.

Let's start assembling our future legs. To do this, we turn the shield over and, laying out our workpieces of legs and steps on it, fasten them with self-tapping screws.

The upper part of the goat's legs, which will be attached to the shield, needs to be narrowed slightly inside the shield (20-30 mm on each side), and the lower ends of the legs, on the contrary, should be spread 30-40 mm more than the width of the shield, in order for our future goat to be stable on the floor, and then screw our steps onto them. Like this:

In order for all the legs of the goat to be the same, they must be assembled by stacking them on top of each other.

Further, when everything is ready, we proceed to the assembly of the goat itself: we fasten the goat's legs from the inside to the shield with self-tapping screws, turn our goat over and align it with two 1850 mm long jibs that we previously prepared along the diagonal of the structure. So that they are screwed, in relation to the sides of the goat "criss-cross". This is also done for the stability of the structure.

When winding the jibs, the bottom of the steps is also slightly parted to the side and fixed with self-tapping screws.

We complete the lower trim of the structure in a circle with two crossbars of 1600 mm each, and the goat is ready. We twist the entire structure with self-tapping screws so that there are 2 of them per connection. Now you can safely, without fear, start working with him.

Additional information: if the repair is carried out in a room with finished floors, then, for example, pieces of linoleum must be screwed onto the bottom of the goat's legs so as not to scratch the floors.

(Do not forget about the mandatory lunch, otherwise, where will the strength come from for work?)

So, from the boards we still have to make a table so that you can have a normal lunch or just drink tea at it.

And, of course, a clothes hanger. Here you must additionally purchase a plastic film to cover clean clothes.

A set of "furniture" to start the repair is ready!

For rooms with a ceiling height of up to 3.5 meters or more, the goat is made separately. But it depends on the individuality of the apartment and layout.

You also need to buy plastic wrap in order to cover everything that can get dusty and dirty during plastering and finishing work. Having installed the beacons, you can begin the process of plastering the walls.

So, let's sum up. For a complete “furniture set” to start repairs as standard (2 goats, a table, a hanger, a wall ladder), we need:

1. Board - 8 pcs.: 30 mm x 150 mm 1500 mm long

2. Board - 4 pieces: 30 mm x 75 mm 600 mm long

3. A set of upper steps - 4 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm, 550 mm long

4. Set of lower steps - 4 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm, length 650 mm

5. Set of legs - 8 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm 900 mm long

6. Boards of the lower trim - 4 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm, length 1650 mm

7. Stabs - 4 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm, length 1850 mm

Clothes hanger set:

1. Board - 5 pieces: 30 mm x 75 mm 1500 mm long

Dining table set:

1. Board - 4 pieces: 30 mm x 150 mm long 1000 mm for the tabletop

2. Legs - 4 pieces: 30 mm x 75 mm 600-700 mm long

3. Boards - 6 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm 750 mm long

4. Boards - 2 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm long 1000 mm for the lower leg trim

5. Stabs - 2 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm, length 1200 mm

Wall ladder:

1. Boards - 2 pcs.: 30 mm x 75 mm 1500 mm long

2. Boards for steps and upper platform - 8 pcs. : 30mm x 75mm long 500mm

That is, it is about 40 meters of edged boards 30 mm x 150 mm x 3000 mm and 0.5 kg of self-tapping screws 55-60 mm. If you cut everything correctly, taking into account these dimensions, and work a little with a hand-held circular saw at the assembly site, then this amount is just enough for everything.

For information: in 1 m3 of boards measuring 30 mm x 150 mm x 3000 mm there will be 74.07 pieces, i.e. 222.21 m.

40 m of a board measuring 30 mm x 150 mm will be equal to 0.18 m3.

With a material cost of 5000 rubles / m3, a batch of material will cost 900 rubles. + 100 rub. - self-tapping screws. Total: 1000 rubles.

Good luck with the repair! Congratulations to everyone on the start of the construction season!

Sawing a large amount of firewood is a laborious task. Anyone who has done this at least once knows for sure that doing it on the ground or in a semi-hanging position is not very convenient. To be frank, after a few bars, such an activity begins to terribly annoy. Nevertheless, there are goats for sawing firewood that can greatly simplify the task and make the work performed less laborious and faster.

Everything ingenious is simple

The goat itself is a fairly simple design, and even a person who has never done such things can do it. Moreover, there are currently several manufacturing options, each of which is suitable for certain cases. Goats can be made of wood or metal. In the first case, the design is very light, and its strength is limited. At the same time, nothing is needed to create it, except for boards, nails, self-tapping screws and a few more simple tools. A metal goat is much stronger and more durable, but it takes more effort and resources to make it. In any case, both the first and the second option take place.

Materials and tools

Before proceeding with the work, it is necessary to acquire materials and tools. First, let's look at how to create a wooden goat. To do this, you need a beam with a section of 100x100 and a length of 110 centimeters under the base. For the "horns" and "legs" they take a bar with a section of 50x50, 36 and 110 centimeters long, respectively. It is also desirable to take care of the amplifiers "legs", which will give stability. To do this, you need an inch board. It is advisable to take two, each - 130 cm.

As for the tool, it will need a little, and everyone can find it. To perform the work, you need a hammer, a chisel, and a hacksaw. You will have to buy 25-35 self-tapping screws, unless, of course, you have them. In addition to all this, it is advisable to have a construction corner with a pencil with you, which will allow you to complete the work more accurately. You can not do without a screwdriver, although a screwdriver is preferable.

General provisions

A wooden goat for firewood should be light, comfortable and durable. It is extremely important to understand here that the design must be adjusted to fit your height. But let's take a closer look at this issue and find out how to make goats for sawing firewood with your own hands. A drawing in this case, or at least a sketch, will be what will help you complete all the work more accurately and quickly.

The cutting height in most cases should not exceed 110 centimeters and be less than 90 cm. So a person does not need to squat or tilt the body too much. If you plan to use a two-handed saw, then you need to take care of the rest of your free hand. In this case, an additional cut timber is placed on the machine, which acts as a stop. But if you are going to work with a chainsaw, then the emphasis will be meaningless, due to the employment of both hands. When working with gasoline or power tools, it is much more important to take care of the maximum log outreach from the goat. So the workpiece will not be clamped, which is almost inevitable when sawing between the goat racks.

Do-it-yourself goats for sawing firewood

The assembly of the machine must be carried out from the legs. Although there are many options, this one is considered the most optimal and simple. In the bars of the cross, where the place of the future connection is located, grooves are made for a stronger fit. Further, the racks are superimposed on each other and fastened with self-tapping screws. The tie bar must also have several grooves, in the future it must be properly nailed to the structure. Cuts need to be knocked out with a chisel and a hammer. Do not forget also that the grooves should be a few millimeters narrower than the beam inserted into them. This will create an interference connection that will be strong enough and reliable.

On the inch bars, markings are made, in the places of which there will be amplifiers. They are needed to ensure the stability of the legs. In principle, do-it-yourself goats for sawing firewood are made quite quickly, but it is extremely important to make all connections of high quality, so do not spare self-tapping screws.

For sawing with a two-handed saw

It is worth noting that the design of such a machine will differ, albeit slightly, but all changes are simply necessary. For example, the use of narrow goats is unacceptable here, since a variable force during the execution of work will lead to overturning. It makes sense to make X-shaped racks from a thick and durable timber with a section of 100 mm. In addition, the screed is recommended to be made of metal. This approach will allow you to secure the goats as much as possible so that they do not loosen during work. The drawing of goats for sawing firewood with a two-handed saw implies a broadening of the lower part of the support. It should be 100-150 mm more than the distance from the surface to the top of the beam. If you used a wooden one, otherwise strengthen the structure additionally with a thin beam. Otherwise, the dimensions remain the same, and only the lower part of the support is subject to changes. If the last element is made in the standard version, then emphasis is placed on the free hand.

Goats for sawing firewood with a chainsaw

A chainsaw is a relatively inexpensive, but at the same time, an effective automatic tool for sawing wood. At first there were no goats made specifically for this kind of equipment, but today they are. The classic X-shaped design is bad because there is a high probability of chain jamming during the cut. It is for this reason that goats that allow free protrusion of the wood are very popular. Most often, metal structures are used that will improve. Modernization consists in the fact that a toothed clamp is installed on one of the ends, which allows you to tightly fix the workpiece. Currently, there are universal devices on sale that have a high-quality clamp, and also completely eliminate ricochet during work. True, the price of such machines starts at 8,000 rubles. That is why it makes sense to engage in the manufacture of such

Metal goat: features and benefits

The main advantages of metal goats are their resource. This is a more durable and strong product that will surely serve you well. In this case, you will need a metal profile with a section of 50x50 mm, as well as a grinder and bolts or a welding machine. In this case, it is desirable to have a pre-prepared drawing and a sketch with dimensions applied. The base beam is cut to size, the joints are marked and the steel elements of the machine are cut. In this case, you can choose any method of connection: both bolted and welded. The latter option is more durable, but you will have to work harder than in the first case. Currently, metal goats for sawing firewood are found in multiple versions. You can find machines of various heights, widths, strengths, etc.

Conclusion

So we figured out in general terms how to make various goats for sawing firewood. Sizes must be selected depending on your height. In any case, work should be comfortable. You can always ennoble the goats. This is usually achieved by using a metal profile instead of a wooden beam for the legs, using narrow boards instead of a log. That, in principle, is all on this topic. Making machine tools with your own hands is good because practically no financial investments are required. In any case, the costs will be incomparable with the market prices for finished goats. In addition, you will gain precious experience that you can use in the future. But remember that at all stages of creating a structure, you need to ensure its strength and reliability.
