Refueling start and operation of the Makita chainsaw. Model range of Stihl chainsaws

Before you buy a good chainsaw, you need to find as much information as possible about this tool and carefully study the principles of working with it. If you correctly, fully meet your requirements, and learn how to work with it, then working with a chainsaw will give you pleasure, while remaining completely safe.

Basic principles of work

If you have never worked with a chainsaw and have no experience with it, you need to understand the basic principles of working with this tool:

  • hold the saw with both hands, clasping the handles with all fingers. At the same time, the thumb of the left hand should be under the front handle;
  • during operation, it is impossible to stand directly behind the saw, it is advisable to be slightly to the side of the tool;
  • you can cut both the lower and upper edge of the tool. If you cut with the bottom edge, the chain will drive the saw away from you, and if you cut with the top edge, the chain will move the saw towards you;
  • when working with a chainsaw, try not to bend your back, instead it is better to bend your knees. When you work with a saw in a standing position, it is recommended to maintain balance with your feet wide apart;
  • before moving to another place, you must activate the saw brake or turn off the engine of the tool. You can not move with a tool whose chain rotates;
  • sawing should begin with the section of the tire closest to the tool body;
  • in the event that you are going to work with a chainsaw often, it is necessary to purchase a set of protective clothing: a helmet with a mask, a bright protective jacket that is not breathable, special trousers with cut protection, strong gloves and durable boots, which should be protected if possible steel plates.

Currently, a large number of chainsaws can be found on the Russian market, which can be divided into three classes:

  1. The first class includes simple household devices that are designed for simple household needs. Most often, such chainsaws have little power, but they cope with all their duties very well. With the help of such a chainsaw, you can cut down a rotten tree or prepare firewood for a bath. Despite the fact that the functionality of such saws is minimal, this is easily compensated by ergonomic controls and their low weight.
  2. The second class includes the so-called semi-professional models that are capable of performing almost any work - from repair and construction tasks to felling trees. But at the same time, such models have one significant drawback - they are not designed to work 8-10 hours a day. It is for this reason that they are called semi-professional. Most often, lumberjacks use such saws as loppers.
  3. The third class includes professional saws, which are an excellent solution for people who specialize in deforestation. Such devices can be used for 10-15 hours a day, while allowing you to work without interruption for 8-10 hours.

Not everyone knows how to work with a chainsaw, so this question is of interest to everyone who has purchased this high-tech device. Some believe that they already understand everything and do not even look at the instructions. But such actions can lead in the future to either serious injury or damage to the chainsaw. Therefore, before starting work, do not be lazy and study the instructions well.

Preparation for work

First you need to make sure that the chain of the device is tensioned correctly, for which you need to slightly pull on the upper links - in this case, the shank should come out of the groove of the tire by a few millimeters. Also, you need to ensure that the lower links do not sag. After that, try to pull the chain with your hand - it should stretch easily. If the chain tension is very strong, then it should be loosened. Next, you need to check what position the inertial brake is in - its handle and the main handle should not touch, since when you turn on the chainsaw with a displaced inertial brake, the clutch may be damaged.

After checking the chain tension, you can start refueling the tool. To do this, the chainsaw must be installed on a horizontal surface and pour chain oil and fuel mixture into it. The best option is a fuel mixture of oil intended for two-stroke engines and A-92 or A-95 gasoline. The ratio of gasoline and oil should be 1 to 40 or 1 to 50 (about 20-25 grams of oil per liter of gasoline).

For the motor and chain, you should choose a special lubricant designed for chainsaws, since such a lubricant contains components that can extend the life of the cutting element and engine parts. At the end of the test, after completing all the procedures described above, you can start the saw.

Remember that before starting the engine, it is necessary to remove the saw from the place where it was refueled so that a fire does not occur during starting. Place it on a stable solid base.

First start

After making sure that the chain does not come into contact with any surfaces, it is necessary to apply the chain brake by moving the brake handle away from you so that the chain does not start its rotation ahead of time. Since the engine is initially cold, it is necessary to fully extend the lever that controls the choke. Next, you should pass the toe of the foot into the rear handle, while holding the front handle with your hand, and pull the handle several times until the engine “sneezes”. Then it is necessary to transfer the air damper to the working position and start the saw by briefly pressing the throttle and turning the saw to idle. After that, you need to move the brake handle to the position on yourself and your chainsaw is ready to work.

Remember:

  • before starting work, it is imperative to check the brake of the chainsaw, for which you need to install it on some flat surface and press the throttle. Next, you need to activate the brake by pressing the handle. The brake is considered to be working if the chain stops.
  • among other things, before starting work, you need to check the lubrication mechanism. To do this, you need to find any bright surface, start the tool and, holding it over this surface, increase the speed of the chain by simply pressing the throttle. If a small strip of oil appears on the surface, then everything is in order with the lubrication mechanism.

The principle of sawing wood

Sawing with a chainsaw is necessary at full throttle. The cut should be made with a section of the tire located as close as possible to the body. Remember that different materials require different sawing methods.

Branch pruning

It is best to start cutting the trunk of a fallen tree from the branches from the bottom, while being on the left side of it. Work must be done at a calm, slow pace, trying not to use the nose of the saw. You can cut both the bottom and the top of the tire, if possible trying to lean the saw against the trunk or thigh. From the upper part of the trunk, branches must be cut with a tool lying on its side (with all its weight, the chainsaw should lie directly on the trunk itself). After cutting the branches that were on the side and on top, you can turn the trunk over and start cutting the branches that are below.

Remember:

  • in some cases, the trunk of a fallen tree may rest on any one branch, cutting off which can provoke a shift in the trunk or even its rolling;
  • if you come across a branch that is too thick, then you need to cut it in parts - starting from the end and moving towards the trunk. If the branch is particularly thick, then in this case it may be necessary to file the branch on both sides.

Crossing should be started only after all the branches have been cut from the trunk. It is necessary to cut the trunk of a fallen tree into parts from the trunk to the top.

Remember:

  • during bucking, in no case should you stand below the trunk if it is located on an inclined plane;
  • if suddenly the chainsaw gets stuck in the trunk, it is necessary to stop the engine, and then tilt the trunk until the saw comes out of the wood. The saw should not be immediately removed from the tree.

felling trees

To begin with, before starting to cut down a tree, it is necessary to determine as accurately as possible where the tree trunk will be “more convenient” to fall. To do this, you should take into account how many branches are located on each side of it, as well as the direction of the wind and the natural slope of the trunk. You need to fell a tree in the direction where it is “more convenient” for it to fall. Before felling the tree directly, it is necessary to cut the lower branches so that they do not interfere with work. Currently, there are several different technologies for felling trees, which should be selected depending on many factors. Only a professional lumberjack is able to correctly choose the most optimal way of felling.

Remember:

  • if there are people nearby, then they should be at such a distance from the tree that is at least two lengths of the trunk of the tree that you are going to fell;
  • before felling a tree, be sure that there is nothing nearby that could be damaged by its fall;
  • felling trees is a rather difficult task, therefore, if you do not have such experience, it is better not to take it on, but to entrust it to professionals. In extreme cases, you can ask them to be present during the felling.

Tool Care

Each time after the work of the chainsaw is completed, a number of steps should be taken to care for it:

  1. First you need to check the lubrication of the chain and its tension. When the chain is loosened, it needs to be tightened, and if the oil runs out, just add it to the tank.
  2. Let the saw cool down after all work is completed and after a short rest, refuel it.
  3. You also need to check the condition of the air filter, as it can sometimes become clogged with chips. Therefore, at the end of the work, it must be removed, washed and blown. In addition, from time to time it is necessary to clean the surface that is around the cooling plates.

If you use a chainsaw very often, you will have to change some wear parts - parts of the anti-vibration system, the drive sprocket, tire and chain, since not replacing the worn part in time can result in its negative impact on the overall condition of the tool.

When buying a chainsaw, remember that it is a complex technical device that requires special skills and proper handling. Of course, everyone can learn how to operate a chainsaw in a short time, but do not forget about all possible precautions. Carry out a periodic inspection of the tool so that it does not completely fail from some little thing that you have not noticed.

If you carefully study all the information provided in this article, your chainsaw will work for a long time, and you will be able to avoid injuries and unpleasant moments associated with a broken saw.

Video instruction for working with a chainsaw

The chain saw has long taken its rightful place in the arsenal of almost every owner of a personal plot. Not only professionals, but also amateurs prefer gasoline-powered tools, as they are more powerful and more mobile than electric counterparts. Almost every person knows or has seen how to work with a chainsaw, but, unfortunately, not everyone thinks about the fact that this work is preceded by the stage of mandatory preparation of the tool.

The main points of the preparatory work are outlined in this video instruction using the example of a two-stroke gasoline saw with a cutting depth of up to 50 cm, a 750 ml tank, designed for about an hour of active work.

  • First, fill the reservoir with fuel mixture and, if necessary, lubricating oil.
  • Check the operation of the power button and two levers on the saw.
  • Extend the throttle lever before starting the engine.
  • Slide the chain brake lever back slightly to stop the chain in an emergency.
  • Be sure to check the chain tension. Sagging is absolutely unacceptable. To correct the situation, loosen the two bolts on the saw body, tighten the chain with a screwdriver and tighten the bolts again.
  • Lock the instrument while carrying it to the object.

The chainsaw is ready to go, but before you activate it, don't forget to put on your basic protective gear: overalls, boots, gloves, and a hard hat with a visor and earmuffs.

Disable blocking directly on the object. To start the saw, pull the starter sharply.

To cut down a tree without much effort, cut a wedge-shaped piece to about the middle of the trunk. First make a cut, holding the blade with a downward slope, and then at an upward angle. After pruning from the back, the tree will give way and fall towards the wedge.

Before sawing off the branches, securely lay the trunk. If it is not possible to cut all branches at once, clean one half of the log first, then turn the log over and cut the remaining branches on the other side.

Caution: Never allow the saw blade to come into contact with the ground. This may result in serious damage to the instrument.

Stihl was founded 90 years ago by German engineer Andreas Stihl in the 1920s. At that time, Shtil worked in the German city of Stuttgart - he created a design office, the immediate field of activity of which included working with wood. The felling of trees then took place with the help of axes and such labor took a lot of strength from the workers.

The Stihl chainsaw first appeared in 1929. The flagship model weighed 46 kg. and was the prototype of modern light and powerful devices. More compact models were produced by Stihl in the 1950s, weighing 12 kg and producing 6 hp. In the ranking of world leaders in petrol and electric saws, there is not only stihl, but also husqvarna. All owners of chainsaws know the quality of the products of the two world leaders in gas and power tools.

Currently, cases of selling fakes have become more frequent on the tool market. The counterfeit country is China. Often, the buyer comes across a fake chainsaw, which is difficult to distinguish from the original at first glance. How can you learn to distinguish a fake Stihl chainsaw from the original:

  • the main difference is the price, a good chainsaw cannot be cheap, while the cost of fakes is usually three times lower than the cost of the original;
  • build quality - the better the build, the more likely that you are holding the original chainsaw in your hands;
  • the quality of all parts, plastic on the body;
  • chain condition, long chain life;
  • high power and good cutting quality (a cheap chainsaw will not cut efficiently);
  • we advise you to choose a stihl chainsaw in large construction supermarkets or in online stores of official brand dealers.

  • the chain must be tightened as it loosens, if the chain is blunt and can no longer be sharpened, replace it with a new one, the chain tension is adjusted by a bolt on the outer side edge of the chainsaw body. To sharpen the chain, you can use a special machine or contact specialists.

The main malfunctions of Stihl brand units and ways to eliminate them

  1. Stihl chainsaw refuses to start. Cause: clogged fuel, air filter, not enough fuel mixture. Remedy: clean the filters, add fuel mixture, monitor the quality of the fuel, this contributes to a better operation of the device.
  2. The chainsaw does not work at full power, makes extraneous sounds, such as knocking or rattling. Cause: Carburetor adjustment required. Remedy: have the carburetor adjusted at the service if the saw is under warranty.
  3. The chainsaw stopped gaining power. Reason: problems with the piston group, the carburetor needs to be adjusted. Remedy: Check the condition of the engine, carburetor and fuel filter, as well as the ignition system.

Video review of the chainsaw

A chainsaw is a technically complex and dangerous tool, for this reason, certain rules must be observed when working with a saw. Inexperienced users often treat the operation of a chainsaw with less attention and break the rules, this leads to injury to the operator or breakage of the tool.

In this article, we will consider how to properly prepare a chainsaw for work, what are the rules and methods for felling and sawing trees, we will talk about how to properly saw a chainsaw, and we will dwell separately on safety precautions.

The first thing with which work with a chainsaw begins is its assembly. The assembly scheme of various models is practically the same. A saw bar and chain are installed on the saw, the chain is tensioned.

The chain can be considered properly tensioned if it does not sag on the bar and is easily scrolled by hand. If you have to apply too much force to turn the chain, then it is overtightened and you should slightly loosen its tension.

Next stage - . The fuel mixture is prepared in a certain proportion, which can be found by reading the user manual supplied with the saw. Basically, the fuel mixture is diluted in a ratio of 1:50, that is, for one liter of AI-92 gasoline, 20 grams of oil for two-stroke engines must be added.

Important: when pouring fuel and oil for chain lubrication into tanks, you need to be extremely careful and not confuse. If you pour oil into the fuel mixture tank, the chainsaw will not work. To restore performance, you will need to flush the fuel tank with gasoline, as well as clean the fuel line and carburetor, which is quite difficult.

Felling tools

In order to fell a tree in a certain direction, professional fellers and not only use special tools. The most common of these are felling forks, wedges and shovels. Special hydraulic or mechanical jacks can also be used.

Wedges can be made from wood directly at the felling site or purchased from specialized stores. Wedges made of polymeric materials are widely used, the size of which is selected depending on the diameter of the tree being cut.

In order to have an idea about felling jacks, we recommend watching a video that shows how, with the help of this device, a lumberjack cuts and lays a pine tree in the direction he needs.

The felling blades work on the principle of a wedge, only they have a lever, thanks to which the operator can increase the effort and help the tree fall in the right direction. The principle of operation of the felling blade, or it is also called the lever, can be found by watching the video below.

feller position

In order not to be injured when cutting down a tree, the feller must always choose the correct position. The correct arrangement is one in which the feller can escape danger at any time. For this reason, before felling the trees, the operator must clear all small growth, which can cause trips and falls. During felling, the saw must be held with both hands and be in the zone opposite from the one where it is planned to fell the tree.

It is allowed to be in the zone of a tree fall only in order to cut a wedge, which is done first.

Safety and Personal Protective Equipment

A chain saw is a source of increased danger, working with it requires compliance with certain rules.

This is not the whole list of rules that you need to remember and follow in order not to get injured. More detailed instructions can be found in the manual that comes with all chainsaws.

How to cut down a tree with a chainsaw

Now let's figure out how to cut a tree with a chainsaw. The first thing to start with is cleaning the small undergrowth around the trunk. This is a necessary procedure, because small branches not only interfere with access to the tree, but can also cause the operator to fall, which is quite dangerous, given that the chainsaw is working.

This is interesting: in order to knock down a tree in the opposite direction from the slope, professional fellers use special heavy equipment, or they tie a cable to the top of the tree, and use a winch to pull the trunk in the right direction.

An upright tree can be felled in any direction, but it is worth considering the location of the branches. It is a little easier to dump the trunk in the direction with more branches than on the opposite side.

At the next stage, a cut is made from the direction of the felling. Washed down is performed in the form of a wedge. The depth of the cut should not exceed 1/3 of the diameter of the trunk, otherwise there is a risk that the tire will be clamped, because the trunk will weaken and tilt towards the cut. A properly executed gash should not cause the tree to tilt.

Further, on the opposite side of the gash and 3-5 cm above it, a direct incision is made. The chainsaw must be directed in such a way that the felling line on the chainsaw is directed to the intended fall of the trunk. After that, with the help of a wedge, fork or felling blade installed in the cut, the tree is helped to start falling in the planned direction.

It is important that when making a cut that should lead to the fall of the tree, the operator must be as careful as possible. This will allow you to move to a safe distance in time if the tree starts to fall without additional use of a fork, wedge or spatula.

Below is a video on how to cut down a tree.

How to cut down a thick tree with a chainsaw

There are several ways to cut down a thick tree and all of them require the use of special equipment. The first method is felling a tree in parts, this method is shown in the video below.

Thick trees are more difficult to cut, so it's not worth trying and risking your health if you have not had to cut trees before.

Another way is to fell the whole tree with the trunk stretched in the right direction. The cable is fixed on the trunk at a height of at least 5-6 meters, after which a wedge is sawn from the side of the planned fall of the trunk and the cable is pulled. You can pull the cable both with a winch, and with a tractor or car. Next, the feller cuts the trunk from the side opposite to the sawn wedge. If the length of the tire is not enough, then another cut is made at a height of at least 30 cm from the previous one, after which the wood between the cuts affects. This is necessary in order for the feller to be able to deepen the tire for a greater distance.

It is worth noting that the process of felling thick trees is purely individual and depends on many factors. It is for this reason that it is very difficult and dangerous to fell a large tree without experience.

How to cut branches from a fallen tree

When cutting branches from a fallen tree, there is a risk of clipping the bar, so there are a few rules to follow when sawing.

  1. Branches should be sawn from the opposite side of the slope.
  2. Branches should not be sawn with the tip of the bar, because with this method of cutting there is a risk of rebound and injury.
  3. Clamped branches must be sawn from the side of the load.

It is not uncommon for pinched branches to bounce when cutting, so a safe distance must be chosen when sawing.

How to cut a tree into chocks

Sawing the trunk of a fallen tree is much easier than sawing a tree on the vine, but even here there is a certain risk. For example, cutting trees incorrectly can cause the tire to get stuck in the trunk and then you will have to use a jack or lift the trunk with crowbars, which will take a lot of time and effort. In order to avoid such situations, it is necessary to assess the position of the trunk in advance and first cut it in those places where there is stress.

It is better to saw the trunk from the crown, gradually moving towards the butt.

The cut can be either upper or lower. The upper cut is performed until the trunk starts to lower and tighten the tire, after which, if possible, it is necessary to finish the trunk from below. If there is no possibility, then several more are made next to the first cut, until the tire stops pressing.

After the trunk is cut into several large pieces that can be rolled, they are sawn into chocks with an upper cut.

Conclusion

The consequences of improper operation of a chainsaw can be very sad, so you should never neglect the rules for working with a saw. It is important to observe safety precautions and use personal protective equipment. We advise you to familiarize yourself with the rules of operation, which are available in the user manual, before sawing with a chainsaw.

Husqvarna 5200- Chinese fake, was in operation for more than 5 years.
Over the years there have been no complaints about the work of the saw, but the time has come, and problems have appeared.

The idle speed increased by itself, the chain did not stop, the idle screw did not help.
I didn’t pay much attention, because it was possible to work.

But gradually the problem intensified, the idle speed increased to such an extent that it was possible to cut without even pressing the gas lever.

At some point, the saw stalled and completely stopped starting.

I was not particularly upset, since there was another saw on the farm, manufactured by another company.

And the Chinese Husqvarna was quietly gathering dust somewhere in the corner, until it once again caught my eye. And once again I thought: is it possible to repair it? Of course, there was not even a thought about the service center, it was very far away, and indeed ... the game is not worth the candle. Decided to dig in and figure it out myself.

Searched the Internet, asked around on the forums. The answer is almost the same everywhere: carburetor or crankshaft oil seals.
I bought a carburetor and changed it.

The result is null. Well, as for the oil seals, the matter is more complicated, but still I decided to look. Began to disassemble gradually. When I removed the cylinder, I found a surprise. The gasket between the crankcase and cylinder was damaged. In fact, it was almost non-existent.

Chainsaw instruction manual

From the gasket, only small pieces remained in the corners.

Unfortunately, there was nothing at hand to make a new gasket. I cut it out of thick cardboard, smeared it, installed it.
Collected the saw, pulled the starter. The saw started up.
A small adjustment of the carburetor, final assembly - and the saw worked for almost a year.

Then the same symptoms reappeared.

I immediately thought that everything was repeating itself. Most likely, the paper gasket did not withstand the function assigned to it.
Actually, that's how it turned out.

An example workflow.
We unscrew five bolts, remove the top plastic cover.
Remove the air filter, unscrew the candle.
You can immediately remove the tubular handle, as it will interfere later when installing the cylinder.

Remove the muffler by unscrewing two bolts and two nuts (1,2,3,4).

We unscrew the two bolts (1.2) that secure the carburetor to the vertical rack.

We tighten two rubber tubes, remove the carburetor.

We unscrew the two bolts of the vertical carburetor rack and four bolts of the cylinder.

We take out the rubber tube from the hole in the vertical rack.
Remove the cylinder together with the vertical stand.
The photo below is the old gasket.

We take a sheet of paronite 1 mm thick and approximately 80x80 mm in size. Mark with a compass and cut a hole dia. 50mm. With an awl, we mark the centers of future holes for fastening, then cut them out with a scalpel right on the cylinder.

To prevent the gasket from moving, bolts can be temporarily inserted into the holes already cut.

Cut off the outer edge of the gasket.

We collect everything in the reverse order.

First start of chainsaw

After buying a saw, in order to make sure that it is working, there is no need to immediately pull the starter and start it.

First, fix the saw set well - sprocket, tire, chain. Using two studs, attach the tire, then put on the chain. When putting on, it is important to follow the direction of its movement - if you look at the saw from above, then the chain comes from the operator. Only in this way, if it breaks, a piece of chain will direct it away from the operator, in extreme cases, it will be delayed by the chain catcher and protect the rear handle shield.

You should also adjust its tension (when lifting the chain, only one tooth of the chain shank should come out of the groove).

Cold start.

If there is a decompressor, the valve must be opened. If a primer is installed, use it to pump up fuel (until it appears in the cap). The ignition switch must be set to the "on" position.

Fully pull out the “tongue” of the air damper. With your free hand from holding the saw, pull the starter cord several times until the first signs of a winding appear. It is very important not to miss this moment, otherwise, you can fill the spark plug. The saw, when starting, can be held in several ways: "On the ground." The saw is placed on the surface so that the chain does not touch anything. At the same time, the leg is placed in the rear handle, fixing it, and the hand holds the saw by the front.

The free hand pulls on the starter cord. "Between the knees." The rear handle is clamped between the knees, the hand fixes the saw behind the front. When starting this way, the chain brake must be activated so that during starting the saw chain, which immediately starts moving, does not injure the operator.

But it should be borne in mind that turning on the brake may prevent the chainsaw from starting. When the first sign (“pop”) appears, it is necessary to push the “tongue” of the air damper. And continue to pull the cord until the engine is fully started.

Hot start.

The only difference with "cold" is that the air damper is open. It must be borne in mind that at low temperatures, the operation of the saw changes somewhat.

Starting the engine becomes more difficult. If, after the first signs of the plant, working strictly according to the instructions, open the air damper, the saw will simply stall due to the poor volatility of gasoline.

Then the motor requires warming up on suction. But it is worth remembering that with such a plant, it is likely to fill in a candle, and this will entail the need to unscrew and clean it.

Preparing the chainsaw for work: how to properly tension the chain and prepare the fuel mixture (for a 2-stroke engine)

How to tension the chain on a saw

1.What you will need:

  • chainsaw key
  • Gloves

2. Order of work

Chainsaw preparation

Before talking about how to correctly tension a chainsaw chain, it is important to outline a few simple rules.

First, maintenance must be carried out with the engine off and without the risk of accidentally starting it. Secondly, all work is carried out after the tool has cooled down. The fact is that a hot saw chain is longer than a cold one. If you start to tighten it, then there will be a risk of contraction and deformation of the tire after cooling.

Remember safety! Wear protective gloves to avoid cutting your hands with sharp chain links.

Checking chain tension

If the saw set is newly installed and has little wear, it makes no sense to change the chain.

It is enough to adjust its tension. What are the signs of insufficient tension? At the bottom of the tire, the chain sags, at the top it shifts to the side. This leads to distortion during sawing, which means that it affects the life of the tire - it wears out unevenly.

In addition, insufficient chain tension increases the risk of the chain jumping off the bar and causes increased wear on the saw blade and drive sprocket.

Since correctly tensioning the chainsaw chain does not only mean getting rid of its slack, it is important not to overtighten it yet. The difficult running of the blade in the tire contributes to an increase in the load on the engine and other working units of the tool. Try spinning the chain around the bar with your hand. If this is difficult to achieve, it must be weakened.

It is important to know! Most often, a new chain requires tension, as it tends to stretch at the beginning of operation.

Constantly check its tension and adjust if necessary. This will prolong its life and reduce wear on other important parts of the saw.

Installing a new chain on the bar

To replace the saw blade, the bar must be released and the old chain removed.

To do this, loosen the fasteners of the cover that holds the saw set, remove the chain from the sprocket and remove the equipment. The new chain must have the same dimensions as the old one. It is installed on the tire in a longitudinal groove with driving links. The free end of the chain is attached to the sprocket. Be sure to make sure that the links fit into the groove along the entire length of the headset.

Install the bar on the pin at the point of attachment to the tool. Close this assembly with a cover and fix the tire. For this, screws or a rotary knob are used.

Advice: so that the tire wears evenly, it is recommended to turn it over - swap the upper and lower parts.

You can navigate by the inscription on the tire. For example, if the letters were placed correctly, the lettering should be upside down when replacing.

Chain tension

The instructions for the tool should describe how to properly tension the chainsaw chain. However, it is not always possible to use it.

Therefore, we will talk about the sequence of actions when servicing saws with different types of chain tension.

  • Traditional chain tensioning with a tool. You will need a standard key, which is usually included with the chainsaw.

    On the one hand, it has a working part for unscrewing the nuts, and on the other, a slotted screwdriver. First you need to loosen the nuts on the cover that closes the tire attachment point. Then insert a screwdriver into a special groove and rotate it to tighten the chain. Do not be zealous - it is better to pull the chain gradually.

    Make a few turns - check the tension with your hands by pulling the chain at the bottom of the bar. After completing the adjustment, tighten the nuts on the cover.

  • Toolless chain tension. This way is easier and faster. On the side of the cover there is an adjusting screw for chain tension. By turning it, you control the reduction of chain slack.

Final check

How to understand that the chainsaw chain is tensioned correctly?

It should not sag from below, and when it is pulled back, the inner teeth should not come out of the groove of the bar more than by 4 - 6 mm. It is also important to make sure that the chain is not overtightened. To do this, rotate it by hand along the bar in the direction of rotation, as when sawing. If the move is easy, then you did everything right. It is believed that it is better to almost reach the chain than to overtighten it.

In the course of work, this will quickly be detected and adjusted. But the difficult move of the saw equipment is not immediately noticeable and has a detrimental effect on the engine. By doing do-it-yourself maintenance of the tool, you will know how to properly tension the chainsaw chain without the risk of damaging its working units.

Once you have reached the optimum tension, you can fix all the fasteners and turn on the tool. Let it idle, no load.

Then stop the engine and check that the chain has not come off or slack. You can get started with this tool.

How to mix oil with gasoline for a two-stroke engine

A feature of two-stroke engines is that the fuel is filled into the tank along with the oil.

Each refueling before the operation of the equipment requires the preparation of a fuel mixture in compliance with the proportions. How to do everything right? From our article you will learn how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw, trimmer and other garden tools.

1. What you will need

  • Petrol
  • Oil for two-stroke engines
  • fuel canister
  • Mixing container
  • Gloves

Instructions for the preparation of the fuel mixture

Buying gasoline

For the operation of garden equipment, it is recommended to buy unleaded gasoline. Otherwise, there is a risk of engine failure. Manufacturers advise fuel with an octane rating of at least AI-90, AI-92 or AI-95 is better. See the user manual for individual recommendations for your tool. At the gas station, pour the required amount of fuel into the canister.

It is advisable to take a metal one: in such a container there is no static electricity from friction, which increases the safety of use.

Oil selection

Buy branded two-stroke engine oils, preferably API-TB or API-TC. The manufacturer should indicate the recommended brands in the instructions for the tool. Also consider their composition.

Mineral oils are suitable for use in warm weather. Synthetic is better, they are less viscous and can be used even in frost. Semi-synthetic are mineral with improved qualities, universal for any season. See the packaging for operating temperature limits. Also pay attention to the volume. What is important is not the proportion of gasoline and chainsaw oil, but how much fuel mixture you need for one refueling and how often you will work with the tool.

If in your arsenal, in addition to the saw, there is also a trimmer or gas shears and you use this or that tool several times a week, it makes sense to buy a large canister of oil with a volume of 3-5 liters. For several mowings during the summer season, it is enough to take a 1 liter bottle.

Mixing oil with gasoline

At the beginning of working with a tool, the question always arises of how much oil to add to gasoline for a chainsaw or trimmer.

It is important to remember that for two-stroke engines the ratio is 1:50, i.e. There are 100 ml of oil for 5 liters of fuel. Why is proportion important? Excess oil contributes to the appearance of soot on pistons and candles, and its lack worsens the lubricating properties of the fuel mixture, which leads to the formation of scoring on the piston group and increases the risk of engine breakdown.

The easiest way to keep the proportions of gasoline and chainsaw oil is using measuring containers. They have a scale with marks that are easy to navigate.

Make sure the container is clean before adding gasoline and oil. Avoid getting water and dirt inside - this can affect the quality of the fuel mixture.

Pour first gasoline to the required mark, then add oil - also to the desired mark. To mix them, tilt the container several times. The liquids will quickly mix and the composition will acquire a uniform color, for example, green or red (depending on the composition of the oil).

It is important to know! Never use plastic beverage bottles to store and mix the fuel mixture.

Gasoline corrodes plastic. And even if the walls of the bottle look intact, harmful components will get into the fuel mixture, and with it into the engine. This is very harmful to the carburetor.

It is recommended to work with gloves to protect your hands from gasoline and oil. Also, do not forget about the elementary rules of fire safety. Mix liquids outdoors to prevent gasoline fumes from building up indoors.

Do not smoke during work and exclude other factors that can cause fuel and lubricants to ignite.

Refueling equipment

Pour the prepared fuel mixture into the fuel tank and close the cap tightly.

If you have made more mixture than you can use at one time, pour it into a separate storage canister or leave it in a mixing container. The main thing is to close the lid tightly. The finished mixture can be stored for two weeks and used for refueling without risk to the engine.

The only condition - do not leave it in the fuel tank. If the tool will not be used for a long time, use up the residue completely or drain it.

Now you know how to dilute chainsaw gasoline so as not to harm the engine.

Try to do it yourself. After you have prepared the fuel mixture several times, it will be clear how many components will be required so that there is no excess mixture left.

A chainsaw is an excellent tool for cutting wood, featuring high performance and reliability. But before you start working with it, you must carefully read the attached instructions and perform a number of preparatory operations. They will help to avoid damage to the unit and ensure its safe operation. The useful tips given here for chainsaw operation are based on the recommendations of the equipment manufacturers and the experience of professional craftsmen.

If you have studied the operating instructions for the chainsaw, and you have figured out the location and principle of operation of all its nodes, you can begin to prepare the first run of the tool. First, by external inspection, they are convinced that the chainsaw is complete and that there are no visible damages. The guide bar must be fixed in place, and the cutting chain inserted into its grooves and engaged with the sprocket.

It is important that the chain has the optimal tension. If the seat is too tight, the load on the engine will increase, and loosening of the engagement can lead to disengagement and jamming of parts. To check, pull the chain in the middle of the bar up. At the same time, its shanks should come out of the groove by a few millimeters. If this does not happen or there is a strong sag, the position of the tire must be adjusted.

Filling with fuel mixture and chain oil

In accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations, a fuel mixture is prepared from gasoline of the specified brand and oil for two-stroke carburetor engines. The ratio for most foreign models is 1:40 or 1:50. Fuel is poured with the fuel tank cap removed, marked gas station icon. Separate chain lubrication system marked picture of a drop, filled with machine oil type W30-W40.

Often, manufacturers advise using their own brands.

First start of chainsaw

A new chainsaw cannot be immediately operated under maximum load. All rotating parts of the tool must first rub against each other. It is recommended to operate a full gas tank at the first start without applying much effort to the saw.. If such a test is successful, you can subsequently cut with a chainsaw without additional restrictions.

The chainsaw is launched on flat horizontal ground. The starting order using the example of a Stihl saw should be as follows.

  1. Pull the chain by hand along the bar, making sure that it runs smoothly and that there is no excessive resistance.
  2. Engage the chain brake by pulling its handle away from you.
  3. Open the cylinder decompression valve.

  4. Few clicks on the primer to apply the fuel mixture to the carburetor.

  5. To properly start the saw, you need to press the rear handle with your right foot to the ground. Holding the front handle with your left hand, fix the fuel supply lever in the working position with your right hand.
  6. Set the combination switch to the cold start position.
  7. With a jerk of the starter handle, start the ignition of the engine, which should almost immediately stall.
  8. Open the throttle to the half throttle position.

  9. By jerking the starter cable again, start the engine again, immediately switching the fuel feed lever to the idle position.
  10. Pull the chain brake handle towards you, moving it to the working position.
  11. Bring the far end of the guide bar to a clean and bright surface, make sure that the chain lubrication system works by spraying small drops of oil.

After making sure that all the nodes and mechanisms of the saw are in good condition and do not emit extraneous noise at idle, you can proceed to work under load.

Chainsaw Safety Precautions

When purchasing such a tool, you need to know how to properly use a chainsaw. Occupational safety requires the employee to use only serviceable equipment. Therefore, the operation of a chainsaw requires:

  • mandatory inspection before each launch;
  • regular checks of the status and adjustment of the main nodes;
  • timely addition of oil and regulation of chain tension;
  • stopping work when a malfunction of the chain brake and other critical parts and devices is detected.

Do not make homemade changes to the design of the tool or use spare parts that are not suitable for the model being used. Some craftsmen talk about how to start a chainsaw without starter. But they forget that its impeller is necessary to cool the motor, which will begin to overheat with the threat of failure.

You can only work with a chainsaw in overalls using special gloves, shoes with metal inserts, helmets and eye protection. In this case, the tool is held with two hands with a straight back, without leaning far forward and without lifting the saw above the shoulders. It is not recommended to place body parts in the cutting plane. Safety measures prohibit moving with a chainsaw in which the cutting chain rotates.

Practical work with a chainsaw when felling trees and cutting branches requires special rules to prevent injury to the worker from falling trunks. Especially dangerous is the reverse blow with a saw that has stumbled upon an obstacle. The lumberjack cannot:

  • fell trees in one cut;
  • cut several branches at the same time;
  • cut with the end of the tire;
  • be in the area where the tree fell.

Chainsaw maintenance

Chainsaw care includes:

  • keeping clean and dry;
  • timely adjustment of all components and assemblies;
  • replacement of worn parts with new ones.

It is necessary to regularly service the chainsaw by performing the following operations:

  • adding fuel mixture and oil to lubricate rubbing surfaces;
  • adjusting the tension of the chain, which lengthens over time;
  • lubrication of the driven sprocket of the tire;
  • blowing or washing the air filter;
  • cylinder combustion chamber cleaning;
  • replacement of the chain, guide bar and drive sprocket due to abrasion of more than 0.5 mm from the nominal dimensions.

All maintenance work on the chainsaw is carried out only with the engine turned off.

If it is necessary to stop work for a long time, all chainsaw units are thoroughly cleaned. In this case, the metal parts are covered with grease, and the chain is removed and immersed in oil. Fuel must be drained. It is recommended to store such a tool in a warm and dry place.

Following the guidelines listed in this article will help you operate your chainsaw efficiently and safely for the life specified by the manufacturers.
