Weapon evolution

In 1957, the same Pugachev created a new IZH-57 gun. However, this did not lead to the closure of the old model. Even vice versa! All three models of the Izhevsk plant - 54, 57, 26 - were three modifications of one gun, so they are considered to be one. And many of their parts were simply similar in design to each other.

Features of production technology

To date, the Izhevsk plant manufactures barrels using vertical forging machines, this technology is called "hot forging". It is the most popular in the modern production of mass-produced weapons. However, this technology does not provide the same manufacturing reliability as earlier ones, such as "deep drilling". Despite the fact that the latter is of higher quality than "hot forging", it did not take root due to its high cost. Starting in 1961, this technology was replaced by a more modern solution: it was the connection in the treasury with a barrel clutch.
