The width of the door frame of the interior door size. Standard dimensions of interior doors

Replacing doors during the event is a very responsible matter. It is important not just to pick up, it must fit into the opening. Adjusting the dimensions is often impossible without violating the structure of the coating. Risk in this case is very expensive. Therefore, when choosing, you need to take into account not only the design, but also the standard dimensions of interior doors, typical markings for opening methods, and prepare as much as possible before going to the shopping center.

The purpose of interior products is different from those that are designed to protect housing from the penetration of strangers. First of all, they should be highly functional and provide comfort in the premises. The requirements for different rooms are different, but the main criteria can still be distinguished:

 • Protection of the premises from unwanted visits. For example, it is necessary to create confidence that no one will accidentally interfere during the adoption of procedures. In addition, protection is needed from increased noise, light, smells from the kitchen or drafts;
 • division of space- this is necessary to delimit the premises into separate zones and organize the area according to its purpose;
 • - canvases should correspond to the general design of the premises.

Structures may have glazing or be sheathed tightly. According to the method of opening - cassette. The main selection criterion is that the canvases must completely cover the entrance.

Dimensions of interior doors according to GOST

The state standard approved the dimensions of interior structures. In this case, it is necessary to take into account several parameters at the same time: the length, width and thickness of the doorways. All manufacturers adhere to certain standards. If necessary, it is possible to manufacture structures according to individual measurements, but this will be expensive for the customer.

Here are the main standard dimensions of interior doors with a frame for a leaf thickness of 44 mm:

Blade dimensions, mm Opening dimensions, mm
Width Height Width Height

1400 (600/800) 1480/1500
1500 (600/900) 1580/1600

This should be known! Standard parameters allow you to select and install the design as accurately as possible. In this case, its functionality will not be impaired.

How to correctly measure the opening

If it is not possible to invite a measurer, you need to measure all the dimensions yourself. To do this, you will need a tape measure, a pencil and a piece of paper.

 • Width measurement must be performed at the top and bottom at a distance of 20 centimeters from the upper and lower borders and in the middle;
 • Height is measured in two places: from the floor surface to the top edge. If there is a nut, it should also be taken into account when taking measurements;
 • measuring the thickness of the door frame of an interior door. Moreover, if it is more than 100 mm, it will be necessary to additionally install additional elements in the form of slopes.

The gap between the box and the wall should be 15 mm. After installing the structure, it is filled with mounting foam.

If you plan to install non-standard structures, for example, in the form of an arch, you need to contact professionals. It is quite difficult to make such measurements correctly. You can draw a project on paper and give it to the manufacturers.

Calculation of proportionality of the box to the opening

If there is no proportionality table at hand, you can independently calculate the necessary parameters. To do this, add the width of the box and the thickness of the mounting gap on both sides to the width of the canvas.

 • The standard width of the door frame is 25 mm;
 • the recommended clearance on each side is 15 mm.

Calculate the parameters of the opening width for a sash 550 mm wide:

550 + 25x2 + 15x2 = 630mm.

To calculate the size of the opening for interior doors in height, you need to take into account:

 • distance from the floor surface to the sash 10 mm;
 • box thickness 25 mm;
 • gap 15 mm.

The height parameters without the nut will be calculated as follows:

2000 + 25 + 15 + 1 = 2031 mm.

To install a box with a threshold, instead of indenting to the floor surface, add the height of the threshold, and take into account the method of its fastening: on foam or screws.

Construction dimensions do not always fit into these formulas. In case of discrepancies, you can use the following tips:

 • if a few millimeters of the width of the opening are not enough, you need to slightly expand it manually;
 • if the box is much narrower than recommended by building codes, you should choose the appropriate sizes of extensions for interior doors, they will close the free wall;
 • if the product is installed in a load-bearing wall, its thickness may exceed the thickness of the box. For such a case, slopes are installed.

If none of the proposed options is suitable, you should make a block according to an individual order.

Product parameter definitions for a corridor

When choosing a product for a room, you need to consider the dimensions of the openings. They must be different from the parameters of the valves. You cannot rely on standards, you must take measurements yourself.

The standard height of doorways in the corridor is 2.01÷2.05 m. The width can vary between 1.28÷1.6 m.

In order to choose a product according to such parameters, you can stop at a double-leaf structure with identical canvases of 60 cm each, or different widths of 0.6 + 0.8 or 0.6 + 0.9 m. The total width allows you to install them in the opening 1 .6 m

Product marking

There is a labeling of products in accordance with GOST, in practice, manufacturers make their own adjustments and designations. Let's start with the generally accepted norms.

You can find the individual marking of the manufacturer with other designations for the dimensions of interior double doors, indicating the material of manufacture and the name of the product. Dimensions may be indicated in centimeters.

Standard sizes of swing interior doors with a frame

Swing structures are installed in wide openings. Most often - in the living room. They attract attention and become the centerpiece and decoration of the room. It is important to correctly determine the dimensions of interior doors with a box, as errors will immediately catch your eye.

Canvas dimensions

In apartments of buildings of the last century, swing doors with a leaf width of 65 cm and a construction height of 230 cm were most often used. Currently, manufacturers have expanded the production of models and offer door frames of the following parameters.

Height, cm Leaf parameters, cm
200 60 + 60 = 120
40 + 70 = 110
40 + 80 = 120
40 + 90 = 130
50 + 70 = 120
55 + 80 = 135
60 + 90 = 150

Door frame dimensions

Swing door frames are U-shaped without thresholds. This is enough to completely fix the product around the perimeter. As in conventional models, when calculating the parameters, it is necessary to leave a gap between the box and the opening.

In the manufacture of the door frame, different materials are used. The width can be in the range of 15-40 mm, the width of 30-35 mm is considered to be the optimal size.

Door opening dimensions

Manufacturers often list standard doorway sizes along with product markings.

You can determine the width using the formula:

double leaf width + double frame width + double gap

The frame width is usually 30 mm, for a gap width of 15 mm should be left on each side.

To determine the height without a threshold, it is necessary to include in the calculations the distance from the floor surface to the canvas about 5 ÷ 20 mm:

sash height + frame width + clearance + floor height

When installing the threshold, the calculation of the height is similar to the determination of the width.

Web thickness

This is the third characteristic of interior structures. The strength of the entire structure and sound insulation depend on it. The standard thickness of the sheets is 40 mm. Manufacturers also offer thinner canvases of 20, 30, 36, 38 mm.

By individual order, products with a parameter of 50 mm can be made.

Interior doors of non-standard sizes

Free layouts of apartments and the construction of private houses require a non-standard approach to the design of premises. Often used for constructions from. For such planning, the standard parameters of door products may not be suitable.

On an individual order, you can make not only canvases of non-standard parameters, but also an unusual design. It is important to take into account the thickness of the material, since drywall is limited in perceived loads.

If you plan to manufacture a custom-sized canvas, it is important to take into account some features and limitations.

 • Reducing the height of the product is not recommended. Extended height structures can be installed in rooms with high ceilings;
 • when changing the width, it is important to consider the uniform distribution of the load. If the opening is more than 2 meters, additional support elements should be installed in the middle of the structure.

As a non-standard technique, you can change the width of one sash to a third or half of the standard width. Such a model is called one and a half.

It's important to know! Manufacturing of custom-made structures will increase the cost by 30÷40%.

Standard dimensions of interior doors: main types and range

The modern market is filled with a variety of products. You can choose quite budget models or elite exclusive samples in different colors and designs. When choosing, you should take into account the basic design of the room.

The main materials for the manufacture of products:

A photo Material

Glass

Wood

, or MDF

PVC

Classification of models according to the method of opening

Manufacturers offer samples with a hidden box. To install such structures, certain requirements must be met:

 • wall thickness should not exceed 80 mm;
 • the opening parameters must comply with the manufacturer's recommendations, the vertical deviation is not more than 1 mm.

You can choose designs with a non-standard way of opening. They save space, in addition, an attractive appearance will be a bright accent in the design.

 • Swing models with a classic opening method, can be left- and right-handed, while the hinges are mounted on the opposite side.

 • Sliding- Significantly save space. They have one or two canvases moving along the floor surface along special guides.

 • Harmonic- several canvases are folded in the form of an accordion, wide openings are needed for their installation.

 • rocking are made of 1÷2 canvases, the mechanism allows you to open the canvases both inside and outside the room.

Conclusion

Interior doors complete the interior design. A quality installation depends primarily on correctly performed measurements and calculations. When choosing a product, many parameters must be taken into account: material, weight and dimensions of the structure. Manufacturers offer a wide range of models that will fit into both ordinary openings and non-standard ones. If desired, you can perform an individual design designs.

Features of sizing can be viewed in the video.

In order to bring the production of interior elements to a single model, standard sizes of interior doors were introduced and approved at the state level. This greatly simplifies the selection of products when they need to be replaced. It is enough to make a correct measurement of the parameters of a typical opening and buy a suitable model.

If there are no problems with domestic products, then when buying an imported interior door, a difficult situation may arise, since there is a different standard in foreign countries. In addition, when buying alternative types of doors (double-leaf, sliding, hidden), you need to know some of their design features.

State standards

There are certain approved state standards (GOST), according to which domestic manufacturers produce interior interior elements. These are GOST 6629-88, as well as SNiPs 21-7, 21-8, 21-9, 21-10, 21-13. For ease of review, these data are summarized in a table that displays the most common standards:

If the choice fell on a product of imported origin, then the dimensions of the interior door can be checked for compliance with European standards DIN 18100-18102, as well as DIN4172, indicating the dimensions of the opening in the light:

These dimensions must be taken into account if you plan to order, for example, an Italian door. Most likely, imported models will have non-standard dimensions, which should be taken into account when laying doorways in the process of building planning or overhaul.

For doorways in height exceeding 2000-2040 mm, its own standards have been developed, indicated in the table below.

The development of state standards takes into account the needs of the main segment of the population living in standard buildings. In the choice of typical models of one size or another, its functional purpose also plays an important role. In other words, the place in the apartment where this product will be located is important. In accordance with this requirement, the dimensions of the canvas, design features, and equipment with special fittings are selected.

The nuances of the correct measurement of the opening

In some cases, it becomes necessary to independently measure the parameters for the purchase of an interior door. This happens if the house or apartment is located at a great distance from the manufacturing company, in another city or in another state. Self-measurement is also carried out in cases where there is no time to wait for the visit of the measurer, or it is more convenient for the customer to take measurements on their own. Regardless of the reason, this event must be carried out as accurately as possible so that the selected model fits perfectly into the existing opening without the need to correct it. This means that the height, width and thickness of the interior door leaf should be as close as possible to the corresponding parameters of the opening. To carry out the correct measurement, you should be guided by the following rules.

Determining the width of the opening.

To do this, measure the distance between the walls at the narrowest point of the opening. If the wall becomes narrower closer to the door, then you need to measure in this part. In the case of a uniform wall width without narrowing, the location of the width measurement is of no fundamental importance. If the previous door has not yet been dismantled, then the measured distance from the middle of one platband to the middle of the opposite platband is the width of the interior doors.

Determining the opening height.

To determine the indicator of this dimension, it is required to measure the distance from the point of the finished floor to the lowest point of the upper part of the opening. If the doorway narrows closer to the hinges, then the measurement should be taken in this area. If the height of the opening is uniform, then the location of the measurement is not critical. The easiest way is to measure the old door, if it has not yet been dismantled. In this case, the height of the interior doors will be equal to the distance from the middle of the upper casing to the zero point of the finished floor.

Determining the depth of the opening.

To do this, it will be necessary to measure the thickness of the wall in which the doorway is located. This will be the depth of the opening. The measurement should be made in three sections: in the upper, middle and lower on both walls. This meticulous event is necessary in order to identify the widest place in the wall. If the old door has not been dismantled, then it is necessary to measure the dimensions of the frame and the wall (thickness) if it protrudes beyond the frame. For the correct measurement of the three key dimensions, it is best to use the services of a professional. Having a body of knowledge, the installer will make an impeccable measurement and give practical recommendations on choosing a typical or non-standard interior door. We remind you that when ordering doors from Porta prima, the visit of the master to measure the dimensions and advice on choosing the door leaf are absolutely free.

Formulas for measuring the door leaf

Often there is such a situation that it is required to make a doorway, and the choice of a canvas model has not yet been made. In this case, to measure the parameters of the opening, the following points must be taken into account:

 • dimensions of the door leaf (width, height, thickness);
 • box dimensions (thickness, width);
 • an indicator of the width of the platbands.

For greater clarity, an example of calculating the dimensions of a doorway will be given.

Let's assume that a standard size door leaf with the following dimensions will be used for installation:

 • Vdv - the height of the door leaf - 2000 mm;
 • Shdv - the standard width of the interior door - 70 0 mm.

With such parameters of the interior product, a box will be installed, the thickness of which (Tk) will be 30 mm. The value of the mounting gap (Mz) in this case will be equal to 10 mm, and the value of the door block (Bd) is equal to 20 mm. With these standard values, the threshold height indicator (Vp) will be 20 mm.

The formula for calculating the width of the opening of the future door:

Opening width = Shdv + 2 × Tk + Mz + 2 × Bd = 700 + 2 × 30 + 10 + 2 × 20 = 810 mm.

The height of the opening is calculated by the following expression:

Opening = Vdv + Vp + 2 × Tk = 2000 + 20 + 2 × 30 = 2080 mm.

Therefore, for an interior door leaf with dimensions of 2000 × 700 mm, it will be necessary to make a doorway of 2080 × 810 mm.

According to the standard of the opening depth of 7.5 mm, the door frame is manufactured. If the thickness of the door leaf of the interior door does not correspond to this indicator, it is necessary either to order a box according to individual sizes, or to use extensions in the design. Therefore, it is recommended to make calculations in advance.

How to calculate if the door will fit in the opening?

A common situation is when a standard door is selected for an existing opening. Usually a good clue for choosing is the marking of door products, which indicates the main dimensions.

At this stage, doubts may arise whether the product is suitable and whether additional difficulties will arise in its installation.

To dispel doubts, you need to reason as follows:

 • Let's say we have a doorway of 900 × 2040 mm, which corresponds to the standard.
 • We calculate the width: we add the indicator of the standard web width of 800 mm to the thickness of the box (on both sides) and structural intervals of 15 mm. It should be noted that there is an interval to the left and right of the door, so you need to multiply it by two. When calculating, we get 880 mm.
 • We calculate the height in a similar way. The door leaf height of 2000 mm is added to the frame thickness of 25 mm and the top mounting distance of 15 mm. We get the value of 2040 mm.

Therefore, an interior door with a standard size of 800 × 2000 mm will ideally fit into a typical opening with dimensions of 900 × 2040 mm. This once again proves the need to create state standards in the construction industry. You can safely buy a typical product without worrying about whether it will fit.

What to do if the door is selected incorrectly?

However, there are situations when the purchased canvas with a box was chosen inaccurately. When a purchase cannot be returned for an objective reason, you can use some building tricks:

 • when only a few millimeters are missing in the width or height of the doorway, you can carefully cut a wider hole in the wall;
 • if the box is narrower than the thickness of the wall, it is recommended to use an extension that will cover the prominent area of the thickness of the wall;
 • if the thickness of the box is much narrower than the dimensions of the doorway, then along the perimeter of the box (with the exception of the bottom) they are drawn into an even slope;
 • if the above methods are unacceptable, it is recommended to order doors according to individual non-standard parameters.

At Porta prima you can buy quality standard interior doors or order an individual design according to your project. A wide range, convenient service and unsurpassed high consumer characteristics of the products of our factory have been appreciated by thousands of Muscovites. Prices are reasonable and correspond to the high quality of interior doors.

The standard dimensions of interior doors must be known for the correct installation of the door in the opening. To date, no general standards have been established for compliance by their manufacturers. But there are building standards on the basis of which openings are made. From such indicators, the characteristics of the door will be determined.

Marking of door products

With product labeling, everything is quite complicated. Of course, there are specific standardized designation guidelines, but in some cases the general standards may change due to the abundance of manufacturers. It often happens that structures made using identical methods and outwardly similar designs can be named and marked differently.

The dimensions of the door directly depend on the size of the opening.

First, let's deal with the GOST 6629-88 standard, which applies to the manufacture of wooden interior doors for residential and public facilities. Based on the standard, the following marking is applied to products:

 1. Product type: P - panel, D - team;
 2. Type of panel: O - glazed, U - reinforced with continuous filling, K - swinging with glass;
 3. The width of the door structure with a box (dm). Additionally, the following symbols are indicated: P - product with a threshold, H - with a surfacing, L - left-hand;
 4. Height (dm);
 5. The name of the state standard.

In addition to complying with GOSTs, official model names, factory unique codes can be used.

Structures are classified according to several criteria:

 • By placement in the object - there are internal (interroom) and external (input);
 • According to the material, products made of metal, wood, glass and combined options are distinguished;
 • According to the filling of the deaf panel, there are glazed and deaf systems;
 • According to the number of panels, one-, one-and-a-half and two-field options are distinguished.

Standard sizes of swing interior doors

Considering the dimensions of internal doors with a box, one should take into account the height, width and weight of the parts. First, an opening is examined into which a box with a canvas will be inserted. Therefore, the initial characteristics are slightly increased. To adjust the main dimensions, you can use bars, bricks or drywall sheets.

Canvas dimensions

If you do not use non-standard approaches, where the dimensions of the opening for interior doors are tied to individual wishes, then the bulk of manufacturers are based on standard indicators. The ratios of the indicators of the opening and door systems (panels and boxes) based on SNiP are indicated in the table:

Panel indicators, cmOpening characteristics, cm
Width heightwidthheight
1 60*200 68-71 205-207
2 70*200 78-81 205-207
3 80*200 88-91 205-207
4 90*200 98-101 205-207
5 60*190 68-71 195-197
6 55*190 63-66 195-197
7 60+60*200 128-131 205-207

According to the DIN standard, the ratio will be as follows:

Door parameters, cmOpening characteristics, cm
Width heightwidthheight
1 60*200 70-74 206-208
2 70*200 80-84 206-208
3 80*200 90-94 206-208
4 90*200 100-104 206-208
5 60+60*200 134-140 206-208

If we consider the parameters of any sliding and hinged door, each person provides for the width that he will use every day. But the state standard offers a door width of 70 cm for kitchens, 60 cm for bathrooms and 80 cm for residential facilities. The market offers designs for bedrooms 90 cm wide, and 55 cm for bathrooms.

Rice. 2. Characteristics of indoor canvas

It is worth mentioning the double-leaf designs that allow you to emphasize the status of any room. Basically, they consist of the same type (60 cm each) or different canvases (60 and 80 cm wide). Of the narrowed options, manufacturers offer designs with sash widths of 40 and 80 or 40 and 40 centimeters.

The most common width of the canvases is 35 - 40 cm, but the figure may vary up or down (based on the material used and the type of product). For example, the thickness of a sliding sash can be 2 cm, and wooden sheets can reach up to 50 cm.

In terms of height, manufacturers offer products of 190 and 200 cm, but there are also European standards - 210 cm. To order, buyers can purchase products of greater height (up to the ceiling or 2.3 m). Often designers adhere to foreign standards.

Rice. 3. Main characteristics of doors

Box dimensions

Ready-made options are available for sale (with a box and accessories). This is a U-shaped design, which is placed around the perimeter of the opening. The system allows you to securely fix the panel.

The total height and width of the canvas with the box increases by 10-15 cm, but a gap should be left between the wall and the mounting latch, so the parameters of the cloth should be less than the characteristics of the frame (to protect against abrasion). The thickness of the panel is compared with the size of the wall and box. Properly mounted doors will be comfortable, look organic in the room, meet the standards used.

Based on the characteristics of the panel, for interior structures, the indicators of the standard dimensions of the door frame of the interior door may vary. Therefore, it is advisable to purchase designs along with cashing, frame and fittings.

For the manufacture of the box, bars of different parameters are used. The width of the material can reach 1.5-4.0 cm, but the optimal indicator is 3.0-3.5 cm. Subject to the standards, a reliable design is obtained that lasts a long time.

Rice. 4. Door frame dimensions

The thickness of the box and the wall must match, but this figure should not exceed the width of the opening. For wooden walls, the criterion is 10 cm, and for brick - 7.5 cm. Therefore, a box whose dimensions exceed the parameters of the wall cannot be firmly fixed. Otherwise, special extensions can be applied.

When manually assembling the box, it is necessary to determine the parameters of the vertical racks in accordance with the height of the panel, the thickness of the horizontal bar, the size of the gap and the threshold. The parameters of the horizontal strip are calculated according to the width of the door.

Opening dimensions

When creating partitions and walls, you can determine the width of the opening according to the standard, which indicates the parameters of products with a frame and fittings. In this case, the width of the panel is formed with a double indicator of the frame and a two-sided gap. As a rule, it is equal to 1.5 cm. For example, 90.0 + 3.0 * 2 + 1.5 * 2 = 99.0 cm.

The height of the opening is also calculated: without a threshold, it will be equal to 200 + 3 + 1.5 + 0.5 = 205 (0.5 is the distance between the panel and the floor for air exchange, can increase up to 1 cm, and for a house with liquefied gas - up to 1.5-2 cm). In the presence of a threshold, the height of the opening is determined by adding the size of the opening and the parameters of the canvas, the width of the mounting seam and the box.

Rice. 5. Measurement of openings

The thicker the canvas, the better?

Thick canvases well emphasize the design of the living room, made in the Baroque, Renaissance or Empire style, and movable partitions and thin screens will complement the openings of dressing rooms and pantries. With an increase in the thickness of the door, its mass increases, which increases the requirements for hinged fittings. It may be necessary to install additional loops, which will increase the cost of the structure.. Therefore, the canvas should be chosen according to its massiveness and other characteristics according to expediency, optimality.

There are many products on the market with a leaf thickness of 30-40 cm. But there are thinner sliding partitions made of MDF (about 2 cm) in the assortment. Recently, tempered glass designs with a thickness of 8 mm or more have become popular.

One-and-a-half and double doors

Double swing doors with two leaves will look effective in the design. The width of the products depends on the model and parameters of the passage of the living room. The parameters for such doors are sometimes taken with an increase of 1.5-2.

The standard dimensions for double systems with a box are 120-150 cm. This allows you to install full-fledged double-leaf structures. The width of the double doors is 1-1.4 m.

With minimum dimensions, double doors can be offered with one fixed leaf ½ or 1/3 of the standard width (for example, one and a half options). The other part of the canvas will be complete. With the optimal width of the opening, the same sashes are placed, which increases the aesthetics and patency of people.

Doors with hidden frame

Compared to standard designs, doors with an inner frame have great advantages.

Fig.6. Scheme of a door with a hidden box

The dimensions of the opening must comply with the standards of the manufacturer of door systems: the wall must be flat vertically, a deviation of 1 mm is allowed in height, and the thickness of the walls should not be more than 8 cm. The ideal gap width is 1.7-2 cm ± 1 cm (the gap at the bottom of the web 4 is considered optimal).

Doors to order

The factories offer a wide range of interior doors with frames and fittings, including non-standard options. But there are cases of non-compliance of manufactured products with the existing opening. At the same time, you can adjust by increasing or reducing the height and width to the required indicator. An alternative solution is to order a structure with non-standard dimensions.

The cost of manufacturing custom-made doors will be higher in comparison with the purchase of finished products. But it will allow you to realize interesting ideas. For example, you can put compartment doors.

How to measure an opening

If the door has a threshold, the length of the opening can be calculated by summing the height of the threshold with the parameters of the panel, the box and the mounting seam.

Rice. 7. Measuring the width of the opening Fig.8. Determination of indicators with and without a threshold

According to the standards, it is not difficult to find out the width of the panel. For a 90 cm opening, a canvas 80 cm wide is suitable. This can be calculated as follows: 90-15 * 2-30 * 2 = 81 cm, and the extra centimeters will be masked by platbands.

When determining the dimensions, it is better to take into account the gap that will remain between the panel and the box. But this indicator is 1-2 millimeters, therefore, with approximate calculations, it can be ignored.

If you do not want to overpay for non-standard interior doors of 20-50 percent, then you need to decide in advance on the doorway.

You need to build on the doors you like, the variety of which can satisfy even the most fastidious taste. Basically, doors are produced in standard sizes: 2 meters high and 60, 70, and 80 cm wide.

Helpful information:

Less common is a standard with a width of 40, 55 and 90 cm and a height of 1.9 meters. The thickness of the door frames can vary in the range of 1.5-4 cm.

Table of standard opening sizes

Depending on the room, a typical door size may be used.

This is usually put:

 • in the bathroom and toilet, the opening height is usually from 1.9 to 2 meters, width 55-60 cm, depth 5-7 cm.
 • in the kitchen, height 2 meters, width 70 cm, depth 7 cm.
 • in the bedroom or living room, the doorway will be 2 meters high, 80 cm wide and 7 cm to 20 cm deep.
 • if the door to the bedroom is double-winged, then only the width will change: it will be either 2 * 60 cm or 40 + 80 cm.

After plastering and leveling the walls, the depth of the doorway will increase accordingly.

These dimensions of doorways are very difficult to overestimate. After all, if you did not take them into account in your calculations, then you may encounter a problem when your door frame does not fit in the opening. And after all, not every opening can be enlarged, sometimes it is impossible, due to the layout or design of the wall. If this is a load-bearing wall, then you will also encounter a number of difficulties.

Even a simple drywall wall is not easy to reduce due to the transfer of metal profiles. In this case, you will have to overpay for non-standard dimensions of the interior door.

There is also the opposite situation, when the doorway is much larger than the door. Here you will also overpay specialists when installing the door, for narrowing the opening.

An unpleasant situation may arise when, as a result of reduction, the platband cannot close the hole in the doorway. In this case, it will be necessary to close up uncovered sections of the wall, glue wallpaper or lay tiles. It is good if the room has not yet been glued, and if it has been glued, then everything will have to be re-pasted.

Therefore, even at the project stage, you need to determine the size of the doorways, then you will not have to overpay for non-standard doors or redo the opening.

What you need to know to calculate the doorway:

 • height and width of the proposed door
 • door frame thickness
 • box width
 • architrave width
 • the box will be with or without a threshold.

Suppose you need a door with dimensions of 2 by 0.8 meters and a thickness of 2.5 cm. To calculate the dimensions of the doorway, you need to add the dimensions of the box to the dimensions of the door, plus a mounting gap of 1 to 2 cm on each side.

Figure y shows a diagram of a doorway with a door and dimensions. Based on these data, we can easily get the width of the opening 800+30+30+10+10+4+2=886 mm or 88.6 cm.

You can find out the width of the box on the website of the manufacturer of the doors you like.

 • with threshold 2000+30+30+10+5+3=2078 mm. or 2 meters and 7.8 cm..
 • without threshold 2000+30+10+5+3=2048 mm. or 2 meters and 4.8 cm..

Pay attention to the fact that the most common thickness is 7.5 cm and therefore many manufacturers adhere to this particular size.

If the wall is thicker or thinner than the box, then you will need to install an extension or cut the box along, respectively. Without these operations, you will not be able to, and everything will look much worse.

Door blocks consist of two parts - a canvas and a box. Most of the produced door blocks have standard leaf sizes from 60 to 90 cm. The dimensions of the door frames, regardless of the dimensions of the door leaf, exceed its dimensions by a certain amount. But this figure is not a standard for all models of door blocks and may differ downwards in lighter door frames.

How to measure thickness?

First of all, let's define the terms and agree on what exactly is meant by the thickness of the door frame. Since this size is often confused with the depth of the box, we immediately clarify: take a look at the image below. The thickness of the door frame is the distance equal to the difference between the width of the door frame and the width of the door leaf divided in two. The depth on the diagram is signed as “The size of the wall thickness in the opening” and is 5-7 cm. The minimum depth for standard door frames is 65 mm. The remaining size options are already non-standard dimensions and to order, check their availability at the place of purchase.

Having decided on the concept of thickness, we calculate it for standard door blocks. For conventional door manufacturers, in classic door models, the dimensions of the door frame are 70 mm larger than the dimensions of the leaf, both in width and in height, if the frame is with a threshold. So, for example, for a door leaf 800 mm wide, the frame width will be 870 mm. By these dimensions, it is easy to find out what is the standard thickness of the door frame of interior doors. To do this, we use the formula:

 • Tk = (Shk - Shp) / 2

Where Tk is the thickness of the door frame, Shk is the width of the box, Shp is the width of the leaf

On the example of a door leaf with a width of 800 mm, the calculation will look like this:

 • Tk = (870 mm - 800 mm) / 2 = 35 mm

The resulting value will be standard thickness of the door frame of interior doors, she is equal to 35 mm.

There are also lightweight door frames, the dimensions of which differ from the standard ones. The thickness of such a box will be less than 35 mm, and before buying, check with the seller which door you are buying. Recently, door manufacturers have begun to produce more lightweight boxes and there is a possibility that when buying, you can accidentally choose just such a model. The thickness of the timber (or MDF) used for lightweight boxes is 25 mm.

Why else do you need to know the thickness of the box?

It is no coincidence that the thickness of the door frame is 3.5 cm. As we already wrote, the dimensions of the doorway are also calculated depending on the size of the door leaf and in standard interior openings they are 10 cm larger than the width of the leaf. Thus, we get a distance from the canvas to the doorway equal to 5 cm. Here, 3.5 cm of the box thickness and 1.5 cm of a gap are placed to fix the door frame in the wall using mounting foam.

The installation of the door block (leaf + frame) takes place not only on the mounting foam. Although each method includes its use, technologies differ in the type of additional fasteners used during installation. Most often, simple wooden spacers or pegs are used, which are inserted into the space between the box and the opening. With their help, the block is aligned in the opening according to the level: each peg is driven in tightly so that the door frame is not deformed, but the entire block is held tightly in the opening. When it is firmly fixed with spacers, a mounting foam is applied to the voids using a special gun. It is also important to install horizontal braces inside the box so that the foam does not later deform the box when it expands.

Thus, we found out that the standard thickness of the door frame of an interior door is 3.5 cm. It is also important to remember that in recent years, manufacturers have increasingly produced non-standard frames. They are also called lightweight and are used in cases where there is a need to install a wider canvas in a small doorway.
