Shelves on the window: ideas for indoor flowers, dishes and small things. Do-it-yourself floor shelves for flowers made of wood How to make shelving on windows for flowers

What lovers of indoor flowers will not come up with in order to place their favorites more comfortably at home - capricious violets, sprawling monsters and variegated dieffenbachia. After all, if there are a lot of flowers, then placing them so that they do not close the light to each other is sometimes problematic. Before you make a flower rack, decide on the place where it will be placed: against the wall, in the corner or on the windowsill itself.

Shelving for indoor flowers

The flower rack can be wooden, metal, plastic, plasterboard. The glass flower rack looks very good. But in this case, you need to take into account the thickness of the glass and whether you can cut the glass yourself or it is better to contact a glass workshop. Often they use everything that is at hand, combining different types of materials. It all depends on what tools the master owns and what materials the hostess of the flower kingdom has chosen.

Rack for plywood flowers in 6 hours

Let's say you have a sheet of plywood on hand. A fairly durable and not too expensive material that can turn into an elegant flower shelf in just a few hours if you have a jigsaw and you can use it to cut smooth lines on wood.

What do you need? Materials: plywood - 1 sheet, nickel-plated pipe - 2 pieces, shelf fasteners - 2 for each shelf, varnish or paint, fixing tool. Tools: jigsaw, drill, sandpaper, tape measure.

Manufacturing technology:

1. We think over the dimensions of the shelves: we measure the place for which it is intended.

2. According to the measurements, we draw future shelves on a sheet of plywood. At the same time, their configuration can be either the simplest (rectangular shelves with rounded corners), or with all kinds of waves, the number and depth of which depend on you.

3. After marking, the shelves are cut out of plywood.

4. Fold the blanks on top of each other and mark the distance where the hole for the pipe will be located. It is important that this point exactly matches on all workpieces.

5. In two places on each workpiece, a hole is made for a nickel-plated pipe.

6. Workpieces are sanded with sandpaper (especially the ends).

7. We cover the shelves with furniture varnish, preferably several times.

8. We pass a nickel-plated pipe through the holes, fixing it near each shelf. It is important to ensure that the shelves are placed parallel to each other and perpendicular to the tubes.

9. The next step is wall mounting. These can be special brackets that are attached to the back of the top and bottom shelves and to the wall. Here it is important to correctly mark the wall and use a drill to drill holes into which the self-tapping screws will be screwed. It depends on the size and strength of the fastening tool whether the shelf will fall under the weight of the flower pots.

Do-it-yourself wooden flower rack in 3 hours

Dimensions of the proposed rack: 23 cm wide, 60 cm long and 70 cm high. There are 3 shelves in total.

Materials: planks of wood (dimensions 3.5x0.5 cm, length - 2m) - 6 pieces, planks, dimensions of which are 2x2 cm, length - 2m - 2 pieces, nails (size 25 and 40).

Tools: tape measure, regular hammer, wood saw.

Thin slats will be used to make the shelves themselves, and 2x2 slats will be used to make racks for the shelf.

Manufacturing technology:

1. We mark thin planks into pieces 60 cm long, after which we cut them. We get 18 bars.

2. We mark the planks 2x2 cm by 70 cm and saw them. We get 4 racks.

3. From the remains of the planks 2x2 cm, we cut out 2 bars of 23 cm each.

4. We take 2 racks, lay them parallel to each other on the floor and mark the places for the future fastening of the shelves. They must be accurately measured. The distance between the shelves depends on the height of the flowers you plan to place on the inner shelves.

6. Help is needed to assemble the entire structure. One holds racks with shelves, the other fixes the structure with nails (40th size).

7. The finished product is varnished or painted.

Rack-shelf for flowers made of metal and wooden slats

Such a shelf will serve as a solid wall structure. After all, its racks are welded from metal.

To do this, take metal rods with a diameter of 7-10 mm or a corner (if the rack will stand on the floor) and weld a similar design, the dimensions of which depend on the wishes and the availability of space for the shelf. If the side bases are 90x20 cm, then this will allow you to place 4 shelves at a distance of 30 cm from each other. This is very convenient for placing undersized flowers, as well as ampelous ones. Tall flowers can be placed on the top shelf.

In the process of welding, fastenings are provided on the upper inner edge of the structure, and crossbars for placing shelves. There will be 4 in total. Then, when the structure is ready, it can be painted.

In parallel, planks 0.50-0.60 cm long are cut out of bars 2.5x1.5 cm. You will need 20 planks. Then they are laid out parallel to each other face down and knocked down with the same planks, but short - 20 cm each.

The next step is to place the metal structure on the wall. To do this, use a molly if the wall is made of drywall, and ordinary self-tapping screws for other types of walls. It is important to correctly measure the attachment points of the bases for the shelves. They must be in a parallel plane. Otherwise, the shelves will not lie flat on the crossbars. So, the distance between the fasteners is 50-55 cm. Shelves are laid on the placed metal supports. The entire wooden-metal structure can be coated with paint, or wooden shelves can be varnished, and metal shelves can be painted to match the rest of the room.

Shelf for flowers from the windowsill

To do this, you will need a plastic window sill 3.90 m long, nickel-plated pipes (3 pcs.), Fixings (flange) - 3 for each shelf, brackets - 2 pcs.

Manufacturing technology:

1. An ordinary window sill is sawn into pieces of 1.3 m.

2. In the resulting blanks, 3 holes are made at the same distance: 2 along the edges at the back wall and 1 - in the center at the front.

3. Pipes are cut to the required height. with the help of flanges and screws fasten the entire structure.

4. The lower edge of the pipes is fixed to the floor using the same flanges in 3 places. Brackets are put on the upper edge of two pipes placed near the wall and also fastened to the wall with the help of screws.

Corner rack for flowers

This design is most simply made of chipboard and the same nickel-plated pipes. It will take only 3 pipes of the length you need, several identical shelves cut with a jigsaw according to the pattern (triangular shape) and the number of flanges and screws corresponding to the number of shelves. Everything is assembled according to the technologies mentioned above. Measure seven times - cut one. At the top, the shelf is attached to the walls with brackets. For fixing, it is enough to place the brackets on the two outer corners.

Glass rack for flowers

Such a device is convenient in that if you place a backlight on top, then the light will penetrate all the shelves. You can make such a glass shelf using two wooden slats and 6 glasses. Of course, the material of the shelves is tempered glass with a thickness of at least 5 mm. Vertical slats can be made of wood. The size of the groove, which is made for fastening the glasses, and, accordingly, the strength of their fastening depends on their thickness. For shelves about 20 cm thick, the grooves should be about 10 cm. This means that the thickness of the slats should not be less than 20 cm. There may be other proportions, but they are more suitable for placing souvenirs and various small things on such shelves. Flowerpots weigh a lot, and if there are several of them, then pressure is created on the entire structure. In the design described above, one of the shelves below can be replaced with a wooden one.

Plasterboard shelves for flowers

Many shelving and shelving options are available in drywall. It can be either niches in the wall or ordinary shelves. In both the first and second cases, a frame is built, which is sheathed with drywall. From a decorative point of view, such a design wins a lot, but from a practical point of view - no. Flowers are water and it is impossible to guarantee 100% that moisture will not get on the material that deteriorates from it. Therefore, one of the options is to attach glass shelves to the plasterboard frame. This design will look very advantageous with backlighting.

As you can see, there are a lot of options for flower racks. Photos clearly demonstrate that there is no limit to human imagination. Whatever material falls into the hands of the master, it can make durable and beautiful flower racks.

Lovers of indoor flowers always have a problem: where to put the next pot of ficus or pelargonium. It is inconvenient to place plants on cabinets, it is impractical to make tables with trays and pots, and only a few begonias or orchids are placed on the windowsill. Shelves for flowers come to the rescue, which can be easily hung on a free section of the wall. We will try to understand the classification of flower shelves and study three interesting workshops on their manufacture.

If we consider a plant stand not just as a convenient fixture, but as a certain element of interior design, then with its help you can emphasize the style, make the room more comfortable, or even completely change the familiar atmosphere of the kitchen or living room. The wooden details of wall products are perfectly combined with furniture sets made of natural oak or linden, and metal brackets and hangers - with fittings for cabinets and chests of drawers.

An interesting solution for the interior in a country style

Shelves or coasters with chrome elements placed in the kitchen are in perfect harmony with sanitary ware and cutlery. A compact bookcase with blooming violets, installed on the windowsill, will give a modern kitchen, overflowing with technical devices, a more comfortable and lived-in look.

In terms of color and design, a flower stand can completely repeat the items of a furniture set, however, in some cases, products of an unusual shape, with additional decorations and decoration, look more elegant. Light lace edging, a few mother-of-pearl beads, light aged gilding - and an ordinary wooden product turns into an exclusive design touch.

Elegant element of the interior of the room

Shelves for indoor plants may well replace the partition, the installation of which is relevant in studio apartments or rooms divided into several zones. An example of a spacious hall is a loft-style apartment, where bare brick or concrete walls can be refreshed with neat arrangements of fresh flowers.

flower stand designs

In addition to traditional wall shelves for indoor plants, which are processed boards on two loops, there are many convenient and unusually shaped stands for placement. The photo shows traditional types: single shelves, multi-tiered wall options and racks that are installed on the floor.

Compact shelves for one plant

Small stands attached to the wall at a height convenient for watering plants are somewhat reminiscent of planters. Particularly close in design are those that are hung on colored thick cords or ropes. A small shelf is easier to make and decorate with your own hands than a multi-tiered structure. A square piece of wood can be painted to match the wallpaper or, on the contrary, highlighted with a bright color.

Unusual solutions for one flower

For a compact and mobile product, it is easier to find a place in the apartment. If desired, you can always change it: move it from the door to the window or from the bedroom to the kitchen. Depending on the height of the plant, which gradually increases in size, the shelf is lowered down. The shoots of ampelous crops, on the contrary, stretch down and to the sides, so sometimes the mount has to be moved up. In addition to walls, miniature shelves are fixed on the slopes of windows, in niches, on beams.

Tiered shelves

The main advantage of structures consisting of two, three or more "floors" is a large capacity. On oblong boards, located one above the other or in a checkerboard pattern, you can arrange a dozen pots with cacti or Tradescantia. Buildings can be drastically different if you choose the appropriate material. Rough, deliberately unfinished boards create a heavy structure, while glass looks airy and light.

Flowers and souvenirs seem to float in the air

Combined sets, consisting of elements of various lengths, look unusual. On short and long shelves for flowers, pots of different colors and shapes are arranged in a chaotic manner, or, if style requires it, glass vessels. This kind of composition is a decor in itself, so it is better to place them on a free wall.

floor racks

Structures installed on the floor can hardly be called shelves. Rather, these are racks or shelves that can accommodate a fairly large number of indoor plants. Such structures are convenient for arranging crops of different types: climbing plants are installed in the upper part, flowering plants in the middle, upright or lush plants below.

Rack-partition for pots

Shelves vary in shape. The classic type is a kind of cabinet without doors, having a rectangular shape and a height of human height. There are models that are more like a ladder, and some look like a set of cubes stacked on top of each other.

In addition to racks, there are floor stands for one or more plants, located separately at different levels. Most often, these are metal hoops for flower pots or unusual design solutions. It is not surprising that flower racks are often made by hand, and not bought ready-made - you can make a truly beautiful and solid thing on your own.

Material for the manufacture of products

The choice of material largely depends on the place where it is planned to hang shelves or install whatnots. It is clear that in a high-tech room, a pair of raw boards on hemp ropes will look superfluous. Metal or glass products of simple geometric shapes are more suitable here. Judging by the photo, you can make wall-mounted flower shelves made of wood, glass, metal and plastic with your own hands. The main thing is that the design of the products matches the style of the room.

Wood (chipboard, plywood)

This is the most convenient material for work, which is easy to give any shape with a saw, planer, drill and other carpentry tools. Depending on the variety, the wood can be dark or light, with a pronounced texture or a subtle natural pattern.

"Bicycle" for large plants

You can emphasize the naturalness of wood with the help of modern paints and varnishes: decorative and protective paints, varnishes, stains, impregnations, antiseptics. There are special solutions that allow you to give wooden shelves and flower racks an aged look.

Floor stand with sides

If you try, you can use simple tools and inexpensive materials to create a real masterpiece, reminiscent of an antique collectible in style and finish.

Glass

Glass houseplant stands are rarely used, as the fragile material cannot support the weight of heavy pots of earth. But if miniature vessels or light-weight compositions are used instead of standard ceramic containers, then a glass shelf can also be used.

It is advisable to use glass when it is necessary to visually increase the volume of the room or preserve maximum natural light. Transparent structures are installed on the windowsill - they do not obscure the sun's rays and look quite elegant.

Metal

Wrought iron products look nobler than plywood wall shelves for flowers, however, they are more expensive. There are few craftsmen who could make a beautiful thing with curved details with their own hands, so it is customary to buy ready-made coasters.

Curved window sill stand

There are two types of metal products: factory-made by stamping or hand-made. The former are sold in flower shops and have a low cost, the latter are exclusive products that are made to order. Thanks to the fashion for forging, it is easy to find flower accessories of both types.

Plastic

Inexpensive material, which is often used to decorate a country or youth interior. Plastic is transparent, colored and even with patterns. It is quite difficult to make a plastic shelf on your own, so it is better to purchase finished products.

Wall "cubes" made of durable transparent plastic

The main advantage of polymer products is their diversity. In addition to standard flat shelves in stores, you can find products of an unusual shape, for example, in the form of large drops-planters, which are simply suspended from a vertical plane.

Places for placing flower shelves and racks

The traditional place for placing large and small flower shelves and planters is the walls, while stands for large pots are installed on the floor. City dwellers also like to decorate balconies and windows with flowering plants. In the photo - interesting solutions for different parts of your home.

Walls

I would like to note right away that not every design is suitable for hanging shelves. Reliable supports are capital reinforced concrete, brick and wooden walls. Drywall partitions are only good for attaching light objects.

Ideas for using roof rails

If you use a creative approach, you can achieve incredible results in the design of ordinary coasters and find other supports instead of a wall. However, sometimes the best solutions lie right on the surface, as in the following photo:

Pots on stairs

In addition to frontal products, use corner ones - if there is a shortage of free space, or suspended ones that are attached directly to the ceiling. The internet is a great resource with plenty of photos for wall hanging flower shelves, so it's easy to borrow ideas from them.

window sills

Convenient horizontal planes of window sills are often considered as good places to place seedlings. This is correct, because it is in the area of windows that the highest degree of sunlight is received.

glass window shelving

In order to fit more pots, they came up with special multi-tiered coasters, and so that self-made whatnots did not contrast with the cozy atmosphere of the rooms, they began to be made decorative. If you don’t want to bother with the manufacture of shelves or racks for flowers on the windowsill with your own hands, use factory offers.

Floor

The material for the manufacture of floor structures for home plants are metal or wooden parts. If the stand resembles a table, then its surface is often made of glass, decorated with paints or even ceramic tiles.

Tables of various heights

Outdoor structures are designed for one or more large plants - monster, ficus, palm trees. A lone yucca on a wrought iron stand looks much more elegant than just in a pot on the floor. Floor structures include all types of cabinets, whatnots and racks designed specifically for flowers.

Balcony

It is customary to decorate both open and glazed balconies. In the first case, it is much more convenient to fix the stands directly on the railing, maintenance is also easier.

Metal lattice for balcony plants

If it is not possible to fix the shelves on the railing, they decorate the walls, and the pots are hung directly from the ceiling.

Three simple master classes for skillful hands

We offer three options for making flower shelves that you can do yourself. We recommend diversifying the creative process with your own ideas in order to make a truly exclusive thing as a result.

Universal bookcase for a room or terrace

If you want to decorate your house, porch or garden with a simple but elegant stand, you don't have to look for the right model in the supermarket. It is enough to pick up a few boards of suitable size and assemble a simple design from them. A three-tier, hand-made wooden flower rack with large drawer shelves is a great solution for amateur flower growers.

Bookcase with drawers

First you need to purchase a set of boards. They can be ordered in the workshop or cut blanks yourself. The dimensions of the parts can be taken from the provided diagram. This option is more suitable for a terrace or garden, but if you want to decorate a living room or a hall with a similar rack, the dimensions can be proportionally reduced.

Shelf layout

So, you will need:

 • boards for the bottoms of boxes - 6 pcs.;
 • short fixing parts for the bottoms - 6 pcs.;
 • drawer wall elements - 6 long + 6 short;
 • 4 narrow blanks for sidewalls;
 • 6 crossbars of different lengths for sidewalls.

From the side parts, using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, we assemble two triangular shapes - the sidewalls on which you need to attach the boxes.

side detail

Next, we proceed to the assembly of boxes, there will be three of them. You can do more, but then you have to increase the height of the whatnot, otherwise it will be difficult to take care of the flowers. We connect each pair of boards for the bottoms with the help of short perpendicular crossbeams. Please note that a gap must be left between the boards (for water to drain, but this is only acceptable for the garden option).

Drawer bottom

We attach the sides to the bottom with self-tapping screws from four walls - we get a box. It will take less time to assemble the two remaining boxes.

Finished box

It remains to fix the boxes on the sides. We start from the bottom. We install it on the lowest horizontal crossbars and fasten it with strong bolts. We do the same with the middle and top drawer.

Drawer installation

It turned out to be a comfortable, roomy stand-shelf for garden or indoor crops. In large flat boxes, you can grow seedlings for the garden, low greens or miniature flowers.

The perfect solution for the care of home and garden crops

Separately, I would like to say about the processing of wooden parts. It is better to apply a protective layer of antiseptic impregnation, stain, varnish or paint before assembly - on all parts without exception. We select the color of decorative paint to match the surrounding interior. It is better to paint a whatnot for a garden in a natural shade, and in two or three layers - for reliability.

Combined wooden shelf

Wood is a soft and malleable, easy-to-handle material that even a woman can handle. From just one small board, you can build an elegant stand for three indoor plants. Its peculiarity lies in the installation of pots: they do not just line up in one row, but are inserted into special niches - holes. In the photo - a neat flower shelf suitable for making with your own hands.

For work you will need:

 • a fragment of a small board (we select the dimensions ourselves according to the diameter of the pots);
 • two ready-made metal brackets;
 • tool for woodworking (saw or drill with a nozzle, sandpaper);
 • set of 3 identical pots;
 • several large beads;
 • varnish or paint for decoration;
 • glue;
 • screws;
 • pencil and square.

The choice of finishing material depends entirely on the style of the interior. It can be a varnish that preserves the texture of wood, and a dark stain, and bright acrylic paint.

First of all, we cut out a fragment of the board of the desired length and cut out three holes. Try to make the distances between them the same. If there is no suitable tool, the board can be ordered from the workshop.

Board with three identical holes

We grind the surface from all sides, not forgetting the cuts and ends. We give the workpiece a beautiful look with the help of a pre-selected decorative composition.

Dark lacquered base

We fix the side brackets on the base with holes. If you haven’t found a couple of beautiful metal holders, you can get by with wooden props. Each bracket has holes on the top - for attaching a shelf, on the side bar - for fixing to the wall.

Finished wooden product on metal holders

The shelf is ready, it remains to prepare the pots. Let's make an elementary drainage system using ordinary beads. We glue the beads to the saucers, and then to the bottom of the pots - in this way we will fix the saucers under the pots so that water does not drain to the floor.

Life hack for drainage

The finishing touch - we place the flowers planted in pots in niches. The result is an elegant and original composition.

Shelf with convenient niches for pots

Such a pot holder can also be placed on the outside wall of the house to decorate the terrace or window with beautiful blooming flowers.

Original hanging rack on ropes

Often, unusual devices are used to fasten wooden planes to the wall, for example, thick hemp or synthetic ropes. Rough thick ropes are a wonderful decor element, and it is not necessary that the room be decorated in a nautical or rustic style.

Convenient shelf for flowers and utensils

For assembly, you will need a simple set of tools and decorative material. The main details are two pieces of strong rope and two (three or four) pieces of wood.

Materials and tools for assembly and decoration

To fasten wooden blanks in the corners, it is necessary to make holes with a drill. The diameter of the holes should be slightly smaller than the thickness of the rope.

Hole drilling process

Two pieces of rope are inserted in such a way that loops form on top - for hanging shelves to the wall.

Connecting boards with ropes

The lower elements are fixed with large knots, the upper ones with studs or glazing beads (small wooden pins).

Inserting glazing beads

It remains to drive in a strong hook or nail and hang the result of the work on the wall. There are a lot of ideas for decorating wall shelves on ropes. Perhaps, in the process of work, you will come up with a new original version.

Finished product options

Thick ropes can be replaced with bright cords, ribbons or chains - with each new fastening, the product will acquire a different sound.

A shelf for flowers is just that element of the interior that you can do with your own hands absolutely without any professional training. You need to turn on your imagination, stock up on blanks and material for decorating - and new comfortable areas will appear for flowers in your home.

Shelves for flowers on the wall allow you to optimally place indoor plants, and their original look can decorate any interior. For many people, growing flowers at home is an exciting hobby, and therefore a home greenhouse requires a special approach. For all the beauty of plants, their accumulation does not always cause delight, but a beautiful placement on walls, shelves or in a window opening pleases the eye. Elegant shelves for flowers in themselves provide an attractive design for the whole apartment, and you can make them yourself with maximum imagination.

The essence of the problem

Everyone knows the classic version - flowers in the window, on the windowsill. Of course, it has the right to exist, especially since such placement is well suited to the plants themselves. However, you can diversify the interior of the room with the help of indoor flowers by distributing plants throughout the room. Supports of various types will help in this.

You can place home plants, in addition to the windowsill, anywhere, even hanging from the ceiling. To this end, there are many designs of devices based on various principles. Such varieties as wall shelves, racks, hanging systems, floor flowerpots, decorative flower stands on the windowsill, etc. have gained the greatest popularity.

Which option of flower stands to choose depends on many factors, but most importantly - on the preferences of the owner. In general, the chosen style of the general design of the room, plant variety, size of the room, illumination (including natural light), purpose of the room, requirements for plant care (in particular, the possibility of watering) should be taken into account. Floral fixtures must be securely fastened, have sufficient strength and accessibility to care for flowers. The main task is to create comfort and aesthetic perception.

A huge range of ready-made shelves and racks allows you to choose them, but only your own creativity allows you to realize your own ideas and make the best use of space. The question of how to make a flower shelf with your own hands is solved quite simply. It can be made from a variety of materials (plywood, chipboard, board, plastic, glass, metal) and improvised means. It is important to give the product an aesthetic appearance, do the work carefully and then securely fix the structure.

Wall shelves

One of the most common options is a flower shelf on the wall. It can have a different design and be made of different materials. It is important that the shelf does not have too much mass, but at the same time it allows you to stably place a flower pot on it. The dimensions and design depend on the number of pots to be installed. Excessive clutter is unlikely to improve perception. Rarely is a stand made for 1 flower. Most often placed from 2 to 5 plants.

The simplest design involves 1 platform with a decorative border on the sides. It is possible to make a shelf in the form of several parallel shelves with uniform side walls. The most popular are structures of several platforms at different levels, and they can have the same or different lengths, partially overlap each other or go in different directions.

How can horizontal platforms be combined into a single composition? There are several options:

 1. Common sidewalls: on 2 vertical sidewalls parallel horizontal platforms are attached. Sidewalls can be made of solid slabs (boards), individual slats or openwork elements.
 2. On wall slats or panels. In this case, a panel or several rails are attached to the wall surface, on which shelves are fixed perpendicular to the wall at different levels and according to different schemes.
 3. Rod connection: shelves are strung on metal or wooden rods.
 4. intermediate elements. The following varieties can be noted:
 • a common panel, from which shelves extend in different directions at different levels;
 • small panels for fastening 2 nearest shelves of different levels, which makes it possible to form a branched scheme of their location on the wall.

The platform of the shelf can have a different shape. The most common configurations are rectangle, square, circle, oval, segment or sector of a circle. The shelf can be given any original, complex shape, which is determined by the owner's imagination and interior design. They are most appropriate when using ultra-modern styles.

Required Tools

When making flower shelves with your own hands, you will need a tool, the choice of which will depend on the material used. The most commonly needed tool is:

 • Bulgarian;
 • electric drill;
 • screwdriver;
 • Grinder;
 • milling cutter;
 • jigsaw;
 • plane;
 • hacksaw;
 • hacksaw for metal;
 • scissors;
 • screwdriver;
 • pliers;
 • clamp;
 • a hammer;
 • mallet;
 • chisel.

Manufacturing process

The specifics of the manufacture of shelves depends on the selected material:

 1. Wooden shelves. Wood is considered one of the most technologically advanced materials that is easily processed. The connection of structural elements to each other can be carried out with screws, according to the “groove-thorn” system with gluing or using metal corners. Natural wood has an attractive texture, and therefore does not require additional cladding. In the manufacture, it is enough to process the boards well and varnish them. To emphasize the structure, impregnating and tinting materials are used. When using cheap or used wood, the shelves are covered with paint.
 2. Chipboard. This common material requires a special approach. First of all, at least the front end of the shelf must be pasted over with a decorative film, and even better, the entire panel must be lined. The connection of adjacent parts from chipboard is made with the help of a dowel (chopik). To do this, holes are drilled at the end of the shelf, into which cylindrical dowels are fixed with glue. Similar holes are made on the joined element. The junction is sealed with adhesive.
 3. Plywood. Most often it is mounted on wooden slats. The thickness of plywood is chosen at least 10 mm. To give the desired shape, a jigsaw is used.
 4. Glass. Glass shelves look very modern. You can mount them to the wall using brackets. The glass plane is freely installed in a wooden or metal frame, and is pressed from above with a flower pot.

The sidewalls of the shelves give a special decorative effect, if they are made accordingly. The easiest option for sidewalls or intermediate common elements is a board or chipboard of the right size. The fastening of the entire shelf to the wall, as a rule, is carried out precisely on these parts, for which, from above (for reliability and from below), metal strips with holes for anchoring are fixed on them.

The design of the sidewalls in an openwork design gives the shelves a special sophistication. For this purpose, metal rods and wire are used, which are bent to form a certain pattern. Often, load-bearing parts are made of several rails or strips with decorative grooves.

Shelves can be attached to the wall in several ways. The most common dowels. To do this, holes are drilled in the wall, into which the corresponding plastic or wooden parts are inserted. Shelves are screwed to them with screws (self-tapping screws). Another common method is brackets. They are first firmly fixed to the surface with dowels or anchors, after which the shelves are mounted.

Corner shelves

A specific type of wall shelves are corner varieties. Placement of indoor plants in the corners of the room allows you to optimally use the entire space of the room. For this design, the shelf configuration in the form of a quarter circle is most suitable. For the simplest shelf, a T-bracket is fixed in the corner, on which a shelf made of the above materials is installed.

A more complex, but attractive option provides for a system of several shelves, some of which move away from the corner in different directions along the wall. For example, such a design is in demand: 2 corner shelves, and between them ordinary wall stands extend in both directions. It is possible to manufacture a shelf in the form of a corner. To do this, 2 platforms are fastened at a right angle, the side ends are rounded.

Mounted structures

Hanging shelves for flowers look good in niches, in the window opening. From a practical point of view, systems designed for space zoning are of interest. In this case, shelves with flowers suspended at different heights provide the creation of a conditional wall that visually delimits the room.

Hanging structures can hang from the ceiling on cords, macrame, cables, decorated slats. They can be hung with brackets attached to the wall. When zoning the premises, a frame is constructed with a horizontal jumper, on which the cables for the shelves are fixed. The shelves themselves can be made from any of the materials mentioned above. Glass varieties are successful.

Hinged shelves in the window opening help to free the surface of the window sill. To do this, a hole is drilled in the upper beam of the opening and an anchor is fixed for attaching the retaining elements. Such a shelf can be made for 1 flower pot, and then the top is fastened at 1 point. If an elongated flower stand is planned, then 2 or 4 anchors are installed.

flower racks

The flower rack is designed for installation on the floor with the possibility of maximum and optimal placement of flower pots. Unlike furniture items, a flower rack should not “kill” with capitality, i.e. should not shade flowering plants. For example, the following structures can be given:

 1. Corner wooden shelving. On a rectangular base 50-60 cm long and 30-40 cm wide, a vertical rack 80-100 cm high and 10-15 cm wide is fixed from 2 adjacent sides. The racks are fixed on top with a wooden plate. Between the base and the top plate, 2-3 shelves are mounted at different levels, similar in size to the base. Fastening to one rack should be alternated: if the bottom shelf is installed with the long side, then the next one with the short side.
 2. Rack made of plastic and metal. 3-4 shelves of the original configuration are cut out of plastic with a thickness of at least 10 mm. They are installed on a chrome-plated or nickel-plated metal pipe with a diameter of 2-3 cm. As shelves, you can use a plastic window sill, which is cut into pieces 30-40 cm long. Such rectangular shelves are mounted at different levels.

Shelves for flowers will help to optimally use the space of the room and decorate the interior. They can be made with your own hands from different materials, choosing the design that is most suitable for a particular room.

Indoor flowers are a spectacular addition to the interior. Shelves will allow compact and aesthetic placement of flowerpots and pots with plants. Designs must be ergonomic, roomy, wear-resistant. The choice of configuration depends on the design of the room and the required functionality. Models are made wall-mounted, floor-mounted, suspended, etc. You can create shelves for flowers with your own hands according to a typical or author's project.

Wall structures are compact and optimal for small apartments. Shelves can be standard or corner, designed for several plants or a set of flower pots.

Suspended models are also ergonomic and compact. Products are attached using cornices to a wall panel, ceiling or window sill. Metal chains, strong belts and twisted ropes are optimal as hanging elements.

According to the number of plants, the designs are designed for 1-2 pots or 8-10 containers. The length of the shelf depends on the number of vessels.

Compact single models are used as wall-mounted and suspended. Designs are optimal for small flowers or climbing vines.

Multi-seat structures are optimal in spacious rooms. Under the racks, space is allocated at the wall panel or in the corner of the room. Up to 10 pots are placed on floor racks. It is not recommended to install light-loving plants and massive planters on the upper surfaces.

Shelves for flowers are made from different raw materials. The choice is determined by the design of the room, the volume of flower containers. Light flowerpots do not require a reinforced structure. Massive pots are installed only on stable and roomy shelves.

The most common for the manufacture of flower shelves are chipboard sheets, wood, glass and metal. Popular as floor and wall forged products. Improvised means (plywood, cardboard, pallets, iron pipes) are suitable for self-manufacturing of the structure. A combination of materials with different textures is common.

From plywood

Shelves on the wall made of plywood are budgetary, practical, easy to manufacture. Raw materials are easily processed, products are cut in different configurations and sizes. When creating a model, standard or author's drawings are used. For self-production of the scheme, measurements are required, which are displayed in the project and transferred to the plywood surface.

Plywood elements are cut with a jigsaw. The edges are polished with sandpaper. Parts of the structure are fastened with screws. The surfaces of the hanging shelf for flowers are treated with a moisture-resistant composition, covered with tinted varnish or paint. If necessary, the product is decorated with painting. Wall options are attached to the wall panel with brackets and metal corners.

Plastic rack

Inexpensive plastic wall and floor shelving products are used to decorate country houses or apartments in art deco, modern, neoclassical styles. The material can be tinted, transparent, smooth or textured.

Plastic racks for flowers on the wall are durable, resistant to moisture, easy to clean. Products are easy to move, comfortable to use.

The raw material is plastic, so the shelves can be of non-standard configurations and sizes. You can make furniture yourself from plastic canvas, metal pipes and brackets.

corner

A large number of options for wall structures are of the angular type. Products are functional and ergonomic. allow you to effectively use the area of an apartment or house.

Corner shelves for flowers are made in the form of a rack, tapering towards the top. The model allows you to place flower pots of different sizes. On the sides of the rack, space is provided for fastening climbing vines.

For light-loving plants, it is necessary to equip additional lighting fixtures on the frame. Do-it-yourself designs are treated with impregnations and varnishes.

Wall shelf made of wood and metal

A popular solution is to create a shelf from improvised materials - wood and metal alloys. Steel is used to create the frame, wood is used for decking. Welded frames are budget, practical, durable and versatile in any interior style. The decoration of the product with forged elements looks spectacular.

To prepare the design, the creation of drawings and fastening schemes is required. Wall shelves are created in one layer or constructed in several tiers. Their size and shape depend on the functionality and dimensions of the room.

Metal rods become the basis for the shelf. For long-term operation, steel surfaces are treated with anti-corrosion compounds and varnishes. The shade is recommended to match the main color of the room.

The boards are sanded with sheets of sandpaper, painted with tinted varnish, mounted on a metal frame and fastened with screws. The finished model is fixed with self-tapping screws and steel corners to the wall.

When choosing plants for wall shelves, there are several nuances to consider. For designs, flowers are optimal, which do not require intense lighting, small in size. For large pots, you can make a multi-tiered flower shelf resting on the floor surface.

glass

You can make shelves for flowers from glass. Models are aesthetic, light, elegant and allow you to visually expand the space.

Designs for indoor flowers made of glass are made in compact sizes, therefore they are optimal for window openings and as wall blocks. Designs are suitable for photophilous plants. When choosing a model, it is important to calculate its dimensions, optimally glass with a thickness of about 0.5 cm. Products are supplemented with steel inserts (brackets, corners).

Curly vines are suitable for hanging glass shelves. Experts do not recommend installing massive pots with shrubs on fragile shelves. The lower block of the structure can be strengthened with wooden bars. The reinforced model can be used as a floor model and will allow you to install up to 10 compact pots.

For living rooms in country and loft styles, the design surfaces require minimal processing. In the premises of the Provence and Art Deco directions, the use of aging and decoupage techniques is recommended. Pipe racks installed in children's rooms and kitchens require mandatory decoration with varnish and paint.

Do-it-yourself floor structures made of gas pipes are the best option for country houses, summer kitchens. Before installation, the frame must be cleaned with brake fluid and soap. The assembled structures are painted with spray paints.

from wood

Shelves for flowers made of wood are among the most durable design solutions for pots with plants and seedlings. For long-term use, it is necessary to choose high-quality fasteners and accessories.

Designs can be multi-level and transformable or simple, designed for 1-2 plants. Laconic models are created from bars coated with paint or varnish. Wall products are fastened with metal corners and screws.

Large tubs with shrub-type plants are installed on floor racks made of wood, because. structures must be able to withstand a large mass.

For suspended structures, massive boards are not used, because. plates are held on tapes or belts. The hinged model is one of the original design solutions and is optimal for rooms in loft, country, Provence styles.

During operation, it is necessary to take into account the instability of wood to moisture. During irrigation, water gets on the surface, the boards are deformed, covered with mold. Therefore, before use, wooden structures are treated with moisture-resistant impregnations, covered with several layers of paint and varnish.

Luminous wooden shelf

Luminous designs will give the room originality. It is possible to make shelves with lighting with your own hands from improvised means. For the design of a luminous shelf, wood bars with cracks and chips are optimal. Uneven surfaces are filled with a mixture of fluorescent pigments and polyester resins.

The composition is poured into cracks, then the surfaces are sealed with paper tape. When processing, the shelf must be in a horizontal position. After drying, the product must be sanded. The shelf is covered with several layers of fixing varnish.

Shelves with luminous surfaces allow you to effectively zone the space, equip the space for relaxation.

What do you do with old furniture?

Flowers in the house are beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. Living plants bring beneficial energy into the room, and sometimes even help to cope with various kinds of negativity. But arranging flowers on the windowsills is not as pleasant as arranging for them a special “living” corner with interesting neat shelves. Such flower shelves can be made by hand, and in this article we will share some ideas with you.

A flower shelf can be made from metal slats and wooden beams. Metal racks connected by jumpers will act as a frame, while wooden boards will become coasters for pots. Consider the process of work in stages:

 1. If the shelves are supposed to be mounted on the wall, then for them you need to pick up metal rods with a cross section of 1 cm. If the structure is placed on the floor, then it is necessary to fix the corners at the installation sites. The dimensions of the shelves can be determined independently, based on the wishes and the availability of free space in the room.
 2. Metal racks are welded together with jumpers. For example, if you take racks with dimensions of 90x20 cm, you can make a rack of 4 shelves, the distance between which will be 30 cm. Small pots with compact plants can be placed on such shelves, taller crops can be placed on the topmost shelf.
 3. Racks for flowers are interconnected with rods to make the structure more stable and strong. This strapping is done on all 4 floors of the rack. After that, the design is painted with paint of the selected shade.
 4. Wooden planks measuring 25x15 mm are divided into fragments of 60 cm, which corresponds to the length of the shelves. These parts are laid parallel to each other and fastened with 20 cm bars.
 5. The structure is attached to the wall surface with self-tapping screws, making a step between the fasteners of 50 cm. In the process of work, the evenness of the frame location must be checked with a building level.
 6. Wooden parts are painted in a suitable color, dried and laid on a frame. After that, the shelves are ready to put flower pots on them.

Mobile shelf for flowers

The mobile shelf can be made of wood or other suitable material. The advantage of the design will be that it can be moved to the most convenient place. To make such a rack, you will need the following:

 • plywood sheets, wooden spikes and beams, instead of beams, you can use a metal profile;
 • wheels for future construction, as well as legs for them;
 • fasteners - self-tapping screws;
 • racks and crossbars;
 • tools for work; glue, brushes with paints, a jigsaw and a drill.

As an example, we will consider the creation of a three-level rack of arbitrary size, you can choose the dimensions at your discretion. So, flower shelves are made in this way:

 1. Before creating a structure on paper, draw a drawing of it with dimensions.
 2. Sheets of plywood are laid out on the floor and the corresponding lines are applied to them, along which the details will be cut.
 3. A frame is made from a wooden beam, fastening individual parts with spikes and self-tapping screws. If there are no bars, it is quite possible to replace them with a metal profile.
 4. From plywood sheets, according to the drawn markings, the necessary parts are cut out, in which grooves are made. The racks of the frame will be inserted into these grooves.
 5. Having chosen the paint of the desired shade, the plywood parts are painted and left to dry. Meanwhile, wheels are attached to the frame. After their installation, the frame is also painted with a composition of a suitable color.
 6. When all the elements of the rack are dry, shelves for flowers are fixed on the frame, where pots with plants are subsequently placed.

Such a rack can be made of any height, although it must be understood that too high, more than 5 floors, the structure will be too heavy and massive.

Plastic flower rack

A cheap option from improvised materials is a plant rack made from a simple plastic window sill. As a basis, we will take a 3.9 m long window sill, as well as additional materials:

 • galvanized or nickel-plated pipes - 3 pcs.;
 • flange fasteners - 9 pcs.;
 • brackets - 2 pcs.

Let's get to work:

 1. We cut the plastic window sill into fragments 1.3 m long. There should be 3 such pieces. These details will become shelves for flowers.
 2. To install the shelves on the frame, we make 3 holes in the plastic. We arrange them so that they form the vertices of an isosceles triangle. Near the ends, next to the back, there should be 2 holes, and the third should be placed in the middle closer to the front edge.
 3. Now we prepare 3 pieces of pipe, observing the same length. We fix parts of the structure with tightening flange fasteners.
 4. The rack is attached to the floor with the same fasteners. From above, the structure is attached to the wall with brackets.

simple wall flower shelf design

There are also very simple options for making flower shelves, which require a minimum of effort and materials. Despite the ease of implementation and a small amount of improvised means, the interior detail turns out to be very original and interesting. We will make it from a wide board, leather belts and fasteners. Instead of belts, you can use something else: rep tape, twine, etc. We will describe the work process in stages:

 1. We take a board of the width we need and divide it into several suitable fragments of the same size. We grind the ends with sandpaper.
 2. Now we paint the future shelf in any way we like. For example, you can cover it with a stain, and then with a colorless varnish, or you can simply apply colored paint.
 3. We leave the shelves to dry and prepare the mount. We divide the belt into 2 blanks 50-60 cm long. Fold the blanks in half, step back from the edge 4 cm and drill holes.
 4. Having measured the parameters of the shelves, we apply the appropriate markings to the wall. In the places where the dowels are attached, we make holes in the wall. We make loops from the belt and fix them through pre-drilled holes on the wall surface.
 5. We install wooden shelves on these hinges, which by that time had dried.

Now we arrange pots with live plants. For greater aesthetics of such shelves in the room, you can hang several, and as the color of their design, you can choose a shade that matches the interior of the room.

Wall corner shelves

Consider another version of the rack - corner shelves. This solution is best suited for small cramped apartments. To make shelves, we need:

 • galvanized or nickel-plated pipes;
 • flanges and screws.

We make shelves in the following way:

 1. From the chipboard sheet, we cut out the elements of the size and shape we need. The main thing is that in their dimensions they correspond to each other.
 2. On these blanks we draw marks in which we will make holes for fasteners. There should be 3 such holes on each shelf.
 3. We assemble the rack using fasteners: flanges and screws.
 4. We install the shelves on the wall using brackets pre-mounted in the surface.
 5. We paint the finished structure in the shade you like and dry it.

DIY glass flower shelves

Glass shelves in the interior look spectacular, especially if they are made of glasses of different colors and equipped with lighting. Such a detail will fit into almost any interior, regardless of style. Let's try to make a similar design on our own, using 6 pre-prepared glass shelves and two wooden slats for this. Let's describe the process step by step:

 1. For work, it is better to take tempered glass with a thickness of at least 5 mm.
 2. We make grooves in wooden planks corresponding to the thickness of the glass sheets, as well as the cross section of the planks. The fragility of the material should be taken into account and the grooves should be made as reliable and stable as possible.
 3. Glass shelves are inserted into these grooves. For greater strength, the tree at the attachment points can be lubricated with a suitable adhesive composition.
 4. Then the rack is installed in a suitable place.

Glass shelves with flowers can be placed on the floor or on the windowsill, or you can also make a smaller structure and place souvenirs and figurines on it.
