Plastic window structures from different companies have similar adjustments. When they are installed, the average values \u200b\u200bof the pressure density are set. Over time, under the influence of wear or other factors, the sash may sag and begin to cling to the frame or impost. When the temperature drops, cold air from the street may begin to enter the room. In all these cases, window adjustment is necessary, which can be done independently if you know how to adjust plastic windows for the winter by switching the pressure settings from summer to winter.

What tools are needed to adjust the plastic window

Plastic window systems have become the most popular product that is installed during the construction or renovation of a simple apartment, as well as a luxurious multi-storey mansion. With all the variety of window fittings used in their creation, similar mechanisms are used in all systems. Preparing plastic windows for winter begins with the first cold snap. The main tools that you may need to adjust windows are:

  • hex L-shaped key 4 mm wide;
  • flat screwdriver 4 mm;
  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • pliers.

How to switch windows to winter mode

In order to prepare Euro-windows for the winter period, seasonal adjustment of the pressure of plastic windows is necessary, in which the following steps must be taken:

  1. Adjust the opening sash vertically and horizontally - it should not cling to the frame and clamping bars.
  2. Adjust the clamping force to the frame. The clamping pressure is adjusted using adjustable pins or eccentrics, the number of which is 4-5 pieces on euro-windows, 6-8 pieces on doors.
  3. In the presence of traction at maximum pressure to the frame, it is necessary to replace the seal. Then check the thrust in the middle position of the pins or eccentrics.

The clamp to the frame is based on the engagement of the clamping bars by the rounded elements of the sash when the handle is turned down. These rounded elements, made in the form of an oval, are called pins, and made in the form of a round element with an offset axis of rotation - eccentrics. The rotation of the pins is done with pliers. Installing them vertically creates a minimum pressure, which means the summer pressure mode, horizontally - the strongest pressure. By rotating the eccentric with an adjusting hexagon, you can adjust the pressure from weak to stronger and vice versa.

You can determine the need to replace the rubber seal by inspecting and checking the traction. You can change it in parts - while you save money. Going to buy a sealant, it is worth taking a sample with you and buying a longer piece. It is better to cut off the excess when sticking than to leave a gap. Buy a quality rubber seal. You will need to buy special glue for it. Before inserting the seal into the groove, apply glue over the entire area of contact with the seal, glue it, close the Euro-window for the glue to dry.

Adjustment of windows and adjustment is made in case of large gaps or when it clings to the frame. It is necessary to adjust the opening sash vertically and horizontally in the following cases:

  • if it catches the upper part of the frame - open the sash and with the short side of the L-shaped key slightly push it out on the upper canopy;
  • if, due to sagging, the sash catches the lower part of the frame, the same must be done with the lower canopy;
  • if it catches the vertical part of the frame or impost (middle vertical part of the frame), it is necessary to slightly push it on both canopies with the short side of the L-shaped key to the side opposite to the place of such contact.

How to adjust plastic windows yourself

Window adjustment can be done independently with the necessary tools. The only parts that can break and require replacement are the handle and sealing rubber. By adjusting the window pressure, the window is switched to winter mode. In this case, the handle turns with force, the sash is strongly pressed against the frame, strongly squeezing the seal. In the spring, it will be necessary to loosen the pressure, since the opening for ventilation occurs frequently, which can lead to severe wear of the closing mechanism and seal.

To switch to winter mode, you need to do the following steps:

  1. Check for draft in or out around the perimeter with a lit match - even a slight breeze will deflect the flame.
  2. If there is a draft, it is necessary to open the sash and adjust the locking pins (eccentrics).
  3. There are 3 types of trunnions - oval, round with a slot for a screwdriver or a hexagon.
  4. If the oval trunnions are located vertically and the eccentrics are offset towards the frame, it is necessary to turn them to the middle position with the appropriate tool to increase the clamping force.
  5. Then again it is necessary to check the thrust, if it remains, switch the trunnions (eccentrics) to the winter mode. To do this, turn the oval pins into a horizontal position, and move the eccentrics completely away from the street.
  6. If after checking the thrust remains, you need to replace the seal.
  7. After replacing the seal, check the thrust when adjusting the trunnions or eccentrics in the middle position.

How to tighten hinges on plastic windows

The upper hinge is adjusted using an L-shaped hexagon. On the upper loop there is one adjustment for the horizontal displacement of the upper bar. The displacement adjustment process is carried out with the window open with the short side of the hexagon in the adjustment hole, which is located at the end of the sash. The top offset range is -2 to +3 mm. With a key, rotate the screw a part of a turn and check the ease of closing.

Adjustment of the lower loop is made with the same tool. The difference is that on the lower hinge, in addition to the horizontal displacement of the lower bar, there is a screw for the entire sash to be displaced vertically. Horizontal displacement is done in a similar way to the top loop. Vertical displacement is performed with a half-open window, for which it is necessary to insert the long side of the hexagon vertically from top to bottom into the opening of the canopy with the decorative casing removed. Such a change is possible in the range from -2 to +2 mm.

Setting up plastic windows when shrinking at home

A strong displacement of the load-bearing building elements as a result of shrinkage of the new building can cause a strong departure of the sash from the frame, requiring reinstallation of the plastic window. If the opening is severely skewed, you will have to level it or order a new eurowindow. By internal adjustments of the opening and pressing mechanisms, it is possible to correct the horizontal or vertical displacement within 2-3 mm. To do this, you need a standard set of tools:

  • special hex key 4 mm wide;
  • screwdriver 4 mm;
  • pliers.

How to set the horizontal and vertical axes

To align the sash horizontally or vertically, it is necessary to adjust the plastic window in the canopies. Alignment in the horizontal plane is made by end adjustments on the upper and lower canopy with the window fully open. The hex wrench is inserted with the short side into the hole. When the key is rotated clockwise, the sash is attracted to the canopy, counterclockwise - to the impost. The maximum adjustment range is -2 to +2 mm.

You can adjust the offset in a vertical position on the lower canopy in cases where the sash touches the frame or to change the size of the gaps. This will require a hex key. It is necessary to open the cap on the canopy, insert the hex wrench with the long end down into the upper hole. By turning the bolt clockwise, the sash can be raised, counterclockwise - lowered. The maximum height adjustment range is -2 to +2 mm.

What to do if the plastic window does not close

A sash adjusted to the gaps at the top, bottom and sides may not close in two cases. The first is associated with a broken handle, the second - with the incorrect operation of one of the trunnion-clamp pairs. To check, open the window and, pressing the double opening latch with your left hand, turn the handle down. If she turned to the extreme position, then the problem of closing in one of the trunnion-clamp pairs. You can determine which pair is not working one by one by unscrewing the clamping bars with a Phillips screwdriver.

How to adjust the handle on a plastic window

The device, diagrams and photos of the location of fittings, adjusting bolts, moving parts of the euro-window, troubleshooting methods and prices can be found on the Internet on sites on this topic. The adjustment of the handle consists in its correct installation in accordance with the above list. The opening handle has four positions:

  • down - closed;
  • to the side - open;
  • up - ventilation mode;
  • in the middle position between the top and side - partial ventilation.

Replacing a defective

If your handle is broken, you must:

  • use a screwdriver to unscrew the upper and lower screws (or screws) of the fasteners located perpendicular to the plane of the sash;
  • insert a new handle in the same position in which the faulty one was removed;
  • fasten it with two screws (or screws);
  • return the protective plate to its original position.

If the handle on the window or balcony is loose, you must:

  • slightly pull the top and bottom of the protective plate on the handle and turn it to a horizontal position;
  • screw the handle tightly with a screwdriver;
  • return the protective plate to its original position.

All elements of the canopy and closing of the sash are outside the structure. The main actions in case of contamination of the elements of this mechanism are its cleaning and lubrication. If the window has not been opened for a long time, dried dirt or rust can be removed using a can of universal penetrating lubricant VD-40. After cleaning, washing, it is necessary to lubricate the fittings, adjust it.

Eccentrics are round elements that engage with clamping bars. The axis of their fastening is displaced relative to the center of the circle, therefore, during rotation, the distance from the axis to the point of contact with the clamping bar changes. With an increase in this distance, the pressure of the sash against the frame increases. The rotation of the eccentrics is done using a hexagon key or a screwdriver. The amount of pressure change varies from 2 to 5 mm, depending on the design of the eccentric. It is necessary to adjust the clamping force twice a year when switching from summer to winter mode and vice versa.

What to do if the window handle is stuck

Among the possible breakdowns of the locking mechanism, jamming of the handle may occur. At the same time, it is not worth putting great effort on the handle to open it - the fittings must be protected to extend the service life. Jamming is possible in three situations - the window is open for ventilation, open or closed. If the handle is stuck in the first two cases, it may be skewed when opening or a special blocker may be triggered. If the sash hangs on one lower hinge, the following operations must be performed:

  • turn the knob up;
  • pressing the upper hinge to the frame, set the handle to the right;
  • close the window and turn the handle down;
  • pressing the sash against the frame, gently turn the handle up and open for ventilation.

Operation of the turn blocker can occur as a result of a sharp turn of the handle at a large angle when opening. The lock is released by pressing the unlocking button or by turning the corresponding lever. Its location can be found on the website of the developer of your fittings. If you have difficulty opening, try pressing the sash firmly against the frame and turn the handle.

Tight turning or jamming of the handle with the window closed is possible with shrinkage and strong (more than 2-3 mm) subsidence of the window or doorway. This is an extremely rare and difficult case, which can lead to a bevel of the frame or breakage of the mechanism. Without specialists from a construction company or installers, it will not be possible to solve this problem with simple adjustments. Jamming is possible due to lack of lubrication of the shutter mechanism. To prevent this and increase the service life, it is desirable to carry out maintenance once or twice a year.

Do-it-yourself window adjustment for the winter

A plastic window, even the highest quality and correctly installed, requires periodic maintenance. It can stand for several years without any problems, but over time, friction can be felt when opening or closing. The second problem is that it blows from under the seal, and the third is that the handle turns with effort. All these breakdowns are not complicated and are easily fixed and it is not at all necessary to call the master: adjusting plastic windows on your own is a matter of minutes. All you need to do is tighten or loosen a few screws. The main thing is to know where and how. More on this later in photo and video format.

Winter and summer mode

Most often, adjustment of plastic windows for the new season is required: in winter, complete tightness is desirable, and in summer you can let in some fresh air. This is achieved by adjusting the sash pressure density. It's easy to do it yourself. When you figure it out, you will be surprised how elementary everything is ...

The window sash is pressed against the frame with the help of trunnions. These are such movable metal protrusions on the side surface of the sash. When the handle is turned, they go behind the reciprocal metal plates mounted on the frame. In order to be able to adjust the tightness of the fit of the sash and frame, they have an eccentric - either they themselves are made oval, or in the center of the round protrusion there is an adjustment with an offset center. By changing the position of the pins (see photo), you change the degree of pressure, that is, you eliminate the draft from under the sash.

As you can see, the shapes of the locking ledges can be different. Various tools can be used to adjust them. If your window has such eccentrics as in the picture on the left - oval-shaped protrusions - their position is changed with the help of pliers: clamp it and turn it in the right direction.

If the locking lug is round, as shown on the left, it can be slotted for a screwdriver or hex wrench. After examining them, you can easily understand what tool you need: a regular screwdriver or a #4 hex key. Insert a key or screwdriver into the slot and also turn it to the desired position.

Expose all the protrusions to the same position. Please note that they are not only on one side of the sash - the outer one, but also on the inside (at least one, but there is), and can also be at the top and bottom. Here you set all the available locking protrusions to the same position, otherwise the frame will warp and it will blow out from under it.

When adjusting the fittings of plastic windows, remember that a weak pressure corresponds to the summer mode of closing plastic windows, a standard or strong one corresponds to the winter one. If you carry out maintenance work in the winter, first set the standard position and check if there is a purge. It is not recommended to immediately pinch the rubber bands on new PVC windows. In this position, the rubber seal installed around the perimeter is strongly pressed. Because of this, it loses its elasticity over time. The guarantee for a normal seal is 15 years, but still ... If you immediately set the maximum pressure, the rubber will deteriorate faster. As a result, once again setting the winter position on plastic windows, you will find that it is still blowing from under the sash, and the rubber is all cracked. This means it's time to change the seal. This is also not very difficult, but it takes more time, and tires still need to be bought.

So: the winter and summer position of plastic windows is set by changing the position of the locking ledges - trunnions. Everything is detailed in the video below. After viewing, adjusting plastic windows on your own will finally cease to be a problem.

How to adjust the window so that it does not blow

Sometimes, plastic windows, even after moving the pins to the position of strong pressure, are not airtight - it blows from under the sash and replacing the rubber band does nothing. This usually happens when the house shrinks. In this case, the window is said to be sagging. When this happens, contact between the locking lug and striker plate is lost. When the handle is turned, the protrusion-pin should go behind the plate, pressing the sash. If this does not happen and drafts occur, heat is blown out of the room.

Where are the trunnions (clamping lugs) usually located?

When a plastic window sags, the adjustment is different: you need to move the sash in a groan so that those protrusions that do not reach the plates catch on to them.

First you need to decide which of the pins do not reach the locking plates. This is done mechanically. First, inspect the sash, remember where there are protrusions. Close the window. Grab the sash frame at the pins and pull it towards you.

If there is contact, the frame remains stationary; if not, it moves. So you check in which places there is no contact and determine in which direction you need to move the sash. Do this by adjusting the lower and upper loops.

Bottom hinge adjustment

If the PVC window does not close somewhere below, we will move the sash with the help of the lower hinge. There are two adjustments here: one in the horizontal plane - moves closer to the hinge or further from it, and the second - in the vertical one - raises or lowers the sash by a couple of millimeters.

To move the lower part of the sash closer or further to the hinge, it is opened. At the bottom of the sing there is an adjustment hole for a hex key (sometimes for an “asterisk”).

A hexagon is inserted into it, by turning clockwise the lower corner approaches the loop, against it it moves away. Move the sash a little, try to close / open it. Once the result is achieved, stop. If the resource is turned out to the stop, but there is no result, return everything to its original position: this is not the right adjustment.

This screw can correct the situation if, when closing the window, the sash touches the frame below. Slightly bringing it closer to the loop, you will eliminate this malfunction.

There is a second adjusting screw on the bottom hinge. To get to it, you need to put the sash on the air and remove the decorative trim. It is removed easily, you need to pull the lower edge slightly towards you (by 1-2 mm) and pull it up. After removing the protective cap, you will see a recess in the upper part. A 4 mm hexagon is inserted into it. By turning clockwise, the sash rises slightly, against it, it lowers.

It is described in detail how to remove the decorative trim on the hinge, how and how to adjust the lower hinge on the PVC window in the next video.

Top hinge adjustment

If the upper corner on the plastic window does not close, you need to move it. To do this, open the window at least 90 °. It is possible and less, but it will be inconvenient to work. There is a loop on the sash at the top. By design, it differs from the bottom, but it also has a hole for the hexagon.

The adjustment screw is on the side. By rotating it, we move the sash further from the hinge (if the trunnions farthest from the hinge do not close) or closer to the hinge. One point - there should be a gap of several millimeters between the sash and the hinge: it is necessary for the tilt-and-turn mechanism to enter there. Therefore, turning the key half a turn, check how the window opens / closes.

Sometimes this adjustment does not help either. Then it is required press the top corner to the frame. There is another screw for this - on the swing-out mechanism. To have access to this screw, you will have to open the window in two positions at once. To do this, the sash is opened, the blocker is pressed. It usually comes in two designs - in the form of a locking loop or a tongue (see the photo below).

The blocker is retracted to the stop, holding it, turn the handle to ventilate, pulling the upper edge of the sash slightly towards you, open the rotary mechanism. A device that holds the sash open. On one of the plates there is a ledge for the same hex key. By turning it, you can adjust the tightness of the upper corner of the sash. It is necessary if the upper corner of the plastic window does not close.

Once again, you can see how to adjust the plastic windows yourself in the video. Explanations on the case, available and without further ado.

Plastic window won't close

Sometimes the geometry of the window opening changes so much that even by moving the sash to the maximum, we do not get the desired result: the plastic window does not close. What to do in this case? If there is an adjustment on the counterpart, as in option a and b in the photo, try to get by with a little blood - tighten it up here. The principle is the same: insert the hex key and rotate it clockwise, pushing it to the maximum.

If a few millimeters are missing not in depth, but to the side, then will have to be installed under the mating part of the lining. They are cut from a piece of white plastic. The maximum thickness is 3-4 mm. First, by unscrewing the screws, the stops are removed. Two gaskets are cut out: one is installed from below, the second is from the side. As a result, the stop moves 3 mm deeper into the sash.

They are first installed on the right place of the lining, on them there is an emphasis, which is screwed with a self-tapping screw. The protruding pieces of plastic are cut off with a sharp knife. Check if the window is closed or not.

If this does not help, there is another way: move the sash frame. It is quite elastic and can be moved about 5 mm. The procedure is as follows:

If you look closely, you can see that the frame is slightly curved. The main thing is that the window is now closed. In 99% of cases this is enough. If you are unlucky, and all these tricks did not work, you need to remove the slopes and also bend the frame.

You can watch all the steps described above in the video.

Adjustment and replacement of handles

A fairly common problem: the handle turns with difficulty. If the problem is not eliminated in time, due to the excessive efforts applied, it breaks down, leaving a short stump, which you definitely can’t do anything about.

First, how to make the handle close easily again. Locking mechanisms must first be cleaned and lubricated. First, accumulated dust and dirt are removed, wiped dry, then all moving parts are lubricated. You need to use pure oils, without alkalis and acids. The best option is engine oil, you can use any analogue or a modern product from a can.

Having lubricated all the rubbing and moving parts, open / close the sash several times, turn it on its hinges. Everything should move smoothly, without jerks.

If there are problems even now, most likely in the process of adjustments or changes in the geometry of the window, the blocker has shifted. It should easily enter the mating part and press firmly against the frame. Then the handle turns easily. Move the sash and try again.

Now about how to change the handle. The fasteners on which it rests are hidden under a decorative overlay. If you look closely, you will see that there is a thin cap. Grab it with your fingers or hook it with your nails, pull it slightly towards you and turn it to one side. Two bolts open. They are unscrewed, the handle is removed, a new one is put in its place.

We've covered the most common problems and how to fix them. Now, not only adjusting plastic windows is not a problem for you, you can also make minor repairs on your own. You can also carry out service yourself (lubrication once a year).

There are many materials from which windows are made. One of the most popular is plastic. Plastic windows are durable, highly resistant to moisture, frost, temperature changes. However, in order to ensure the normal functioning of such a window, it should be adjusted. On the features of the pressure setting on the plastic window, we will consider further.

Plastic windows: the benefits of operation

Installing a plastic window is a fairly simple process, the quality of which depends on the correct observance of the technology for its implementation. In addition, such factors as the manufacturer, the materials from which it is made, fittings, profile, etc. are reflected in the quality of the window.

Among the advantages of plastic windows it should be noted:

  • high level of protection of the living space from extraneous sounds;
  • a high level of heat preservation in the room, the installation of one double-glazed window saves more than twenty percent of heat;
  • good tightness eliminates drafts, so windows do not need additional paper pasting before winter;
  • the duration of operation exceeds ten years, and if you follow certain rules for the use of these windows, they will last two or even three times longer;
  • a high level of fire safety prevents burning or ignition of windows;
  • aesthetic appeal - windows come in almost any color or shade, in addition, to clean them, it is enough to wipe them with a damp cloth;
  • plastic windows do not require special care, they do not need to be periodically painted, unlike wooden ones;
  • the versatility of the window is provided by such functions as the possibility of its ventilation, mosquito nets that protect the room from insects.

However, windows made of plastic have certain disadvantages, namely:

  • unlike wooden windows, they are not able to maintain the optimal temperature and humidity atmosphere in the room, thereby regulating it;
  • periodically moving parts of the plastic window need to be lubricated, the channels cleaned and the seal replaced;
  • in the warm season, the windows increase in size, and in the cold season they decrease;
  • technologically incorrect installation of a plastic window significantly reduces its service life.

The device and design of plastic windows

Before studying the features of window pressure adjustment, you should familiarize yourself with the structural elements of a plastic window, among which are noted:

  • frame;
  • sashes;
  • double-glazed windows;
  • fittings;
  • elements for sealing and sealing;
  • glazing beads;
  • shtulpy;
  • impost.

The frame consists of a profile on a plastic basis, inside of which there is a steel reinforcing reinforcement. The profile is interconnected by means of special welding. Its strength is very high and lends itself to special tests. In order to connect the steel profile with the plastic one, self-tapping screws are used. The frame must provide strength to the window and take on all sorts of loads.

Inside the doors there is also a steel profile. The main function of the sash is to ensure the normal closing and opening of the window during its operation. Accessories are called various kinds of elements made of steel, such as handles, awnings. The fittings provide ventilation of the window, its opening or closing. When choosing plastic windows, special attention should be paid to fittings, since the duration of operation of plastic windows also depends on its quality.

Double-glazed window is called an element that is able to transmit light into the room. There are windows with one, two, three or more double-glazed windows. Two glasses in a double-glazed window are able to form one air chamber. In order for the window to have good heat and sound insulation characteristics, a special gaseous substance is pumped inside the chamber instead of air. Beads are most often plastic, they hold the glass on the window.

In order to give the window additional tightness, an element in the form of a seal is used. With its help, moisture and cold air do not get inside the room. If the window consists of two or more structural elements, then an element in the form of an impost is installed between them. This part is made of galvanized steel reinforcing profile or plastic. The plastic version of the impost provides a complete release of the window opening. Steel elements are stationary and are fixed directly in the opening, dividing it into several parts.

Adjusting the pressure of the plastic window and the features of its implementation

Adjustment of windows is required if during their operation problems of the following nature arise:

1. Drafts. If you are concerned about blowing windows, especially in strong winds, then you need to adjust the pressure of the plastic window.

2. The frame touches the lower part of the sash. In this case, sagging of the valves is relevant. In order to get rid of this problem, install vertical or horizontal sash adjusters.

3. In order to eliminate the problem of the handle becoming loose, it is enough to change the location of the plate that is inside it.

4. If there are difficulties with turning the handle, then it is necessary to change the location of the sash or lubricate the fittings in the window.

There are many options for plastic windows, which differ in quality, number of double-glazed windows, strength, etc. Each manufacturer has individual window settings.

The work of adjusting plastic windows is occupied by professionals, however, subject to certain rules, it is possible to do it yourself. In order to adjust the plastic window, you will definitely need a four-millimeter hex key and instructions from the window manufacturer. If the nature of the breakdowns is associated with poor-quality installation of the window or its long-term operation, then they are completely eliminated with the help of additional adjustment or replacement of fittings.

There are several modes for adjusting plastic windows, the choice of one or another option depends on the nature of the malfunction. By adjusting the window in the horizontal direction, it is possible to get rid of a slight bevel or shift of the frame. For these purposes, it is necessary to gain access to the upper and lower hinges. They have holes for installing a hexagon. The window is adjustable in two positions, both horizontal and vertical. If the hexagon rotates clockwise, then the window is attracted to the sash, otherwise, it turns out to loosen the fastening between the window and the sash and lower its lower part.

Adjustment of the window on the upper hinge is performed only when the window is fully opened. Please note that in this case, it is impossible to move the window more than two millimeters.

In order to adjust the window in a vertical position, it is necessary to use the bottom hinged hinge. To do this, a special cap opens on the hinges, which allows you to open access to the hexagon hole.

If the hexagon is rotated clockwise, the sash will rise, otherwise, the sash will be lowered. The adjustment of the window is also possible by no more than two millimeters.

Technology for adjusting the pressure of plastic windows

Most often, most problems with plastic windows are eliminated by adjusting their pressure. By performing these actions, it is possible to get rid of drafts in the room and from heat losses in the winter season.

To check the need to adjust the sash pressure, it is necessary to bring a match to the window, if the flame is uneven or completely extinguished, then there is a need to adjust the sash.

In order to adjust the plastic window, use the eccentrics that are on the fittings. They are located behind the clamping parts of the handle. Their adjustment is quite quick and easy.

To tightly press the sash to the surface of the frame, turn this element clockwise. Turning the eccentric counterclockwise will loosen the leaf.

In addition, on the surface of the eccentric in most plastic windows there is a special pointer that helps to determine the quality of pressing the sash to the frame. If the pointer is closer to the seal, then the clamp should be pressed.

In relation to the quality and type of fittings on the window, pliers or special plates installed on the sashes are used to adjust the windows. Adjusting the window allows you to move it no more than one millimeter.

In addition, the adjustment of the pressure of the sashes is carried out seasonally. That is, in the summer, when fresh air is required in the room, the pressure is loosened, and in the winter, to prevent heat loss, the pressure is increased. The operation of a window with a free clamp is more durable than with its strong sealing.

When the window is in the open position, it is fashionable to see the butt on it. This part is distinguished by the presence of three eccentrics or trunnions. With the help of a hexagon, the windows are periodically adjusted.

For more detailed instructions on adjusting certain windows, see the manufacturer's instructions for their operation. However, for most plastic windows, the principle of their adjustment remains unchanged.

In order to increase the pressure density, turn the hexagon to the left by two to three millimeters. This process is quite simple, but coordination should be observed during its implementation. That is, if the screw is too tight, the seal may be damaged. All eccentrics must be set in the same position, only in this case it will be possible to achieve uniform pressure on the entire window.

Please note, if the pressure adjustment is performed for the first time, then the adjustment should be minimal. At the end of the long service life of the window, this value should be increased. Since in the process of constant opening, closing the window, the rubber bands wear out and dry out.

If this is not done and the rubber band is pressed too hard, then after a couple of months it will undergo wear and tear and will have to be changed. In order to replace the old seal, it is enough to buy a new seal and install it, while adjusting the pressure. In no case should the seal be stretched too much, as over time it will begin to let air into the room.

If there are problems with handle malfunctions on plastic windows, then it is enough to turn it at a right angle. Next, you should unscrew the fasteners that fix it on the window, turn the plates in the opposite direction and check the operation of the handle. If the problem could not be solved, then it is enough to unscrew the old handle and install a new one. It is advisable to choose fittings from the same manufacturer from which you bought the windows.

If the seal after adjusting the window pressure does not perform its functions, then there is a need to replace it. In this case, loosen the seal to the maximum value, remove it from the leaves and install a new one. Replacing the seal is relevant once every eight to ten years. This element of the window has excellent performance characteristics and is sufficiently resistant to wear. Provided that the window clamp is not pinched and the window is operated under standard conditions. If a creak occurs in the seal during the operation of the window, it is enough to lubricate it with engine oil.

If after correcting the malfunctions on the plastic window, it was not possible to solve the problems, then we recommend that you contact the specialists who can quickly and efficiently repair plastic windows. It is much easier to fix problems at the initial stage of their formation than to change damaged parts or sashes.

An important factor in the long-term operation of a plastic window is its operating conditions. Window fittings should be well adjusted. Do not wash the window with abrasive cleaning solutions and substances. In order to get rid of dirt on the window, it is enough to use a regular soap solution or water.

A plastic window, even when professionally installed, requires maintenance from time to time. The window is able to serve you for a couple of three years without any complaints, but over time, friction may occur at the moments of opening. Problem number 2 - prying from the sealing gum, and the third - the handle turns with serious effort.

All of the above breakdowns are not complex and are eliminated quite simply without the need to call the master: adjusting plastic windows on your own is not a difficult task and time is not expensive. You only need to tighten or, on the contrary, loosen a couple of screw connections. The main thing is to know how this operation is done correctly. Actually, we'll talk about this later.

The most demanded operation is the cleaning of sealing rubber bands, lubrication and seasonal adjustment of plastic windows: in winter, complete tightness is needed, in turn, in summer you want a greater influx of fresh air mass. This can be achieved by adjusting the fittings of the pressure plane of the plastic window sash.

This operation is quite simple. When you study, be surprised in reality that everything is elementary ...

Adjustment of fittings of plastic windows

The window sash of the frame is pressed with trunnions. These are a kind of metal protrusions on the welding surface from the side. At the moment of cranking the handle, they pass over the reciprocal metal plates mounted on the frame. To be able to tightly adjust the fit of the frame and sash, they have an eccentric - either they themselves are made in the form of an oval, or there is an offset adjustment in the center of the protrusion. By changing the location of the pins, you can change the clamping force, in other words, eliminate the draft from the sash.

Adjustment of casement clamps in plastic windows

From practice, we can conclude that the shape of the protrusions of the locking purpose can vary significantly. For the planned adjustment of plastic windows, various kinds of tools are used. If you have oval-shaped windows, their position is changed with the help of pliers: they should be clamped and turned to the side.

If the projection of the locking device is round, as shown in the left image, it is quite possible to make a slot for the hex in it. After making a detailed inspection of them, you can understand what tools you need: a standard screwdriver or a hexagon 4.

Adjusting plastic windows yourself

The eccentric is rotated with pliers or a hexagon

When systematically adjusting the window fittings, do not forget that a weak clamping mechanism corresponds to the warm season, a standard or reinforced one corresponds to the winter one. If preventive work is carried out in the winter season, first you need to transfer the window structure to the standard position and check whether there is blowing. At the same time, analyze the condition of the rubber bands on the PVC windows. In winter, the rubber seal mounted around the perimeter is pressed and, moreover, strongly. Over time, due to tension, elasticity may deteriorate. The factory warranty for the standard type of seal is 15 years. But, despite this, if you set the clamp to the maximum, the rubber will wear out much faster. Conclusion from the above information: the position of PVC windows for the winter-summer periods is set by adjusting the position of the locking pins.

We adjust the plastic window from blowing

It happens that PVC windows, after moving the trunnions to the stage of powerful clamping, become not airtight - it starts to blow out of the sashes and it is absolutely useless to change the rubber band. This can happen during the shrinkage of households. In this case, the usual subsidence is observed. At that moment, there is a loss of contact between the locking tabs and the plate. When the window opening handle is turned, the protrusion-trunnion goes behind the plate, thereby pressing the entire sash. If all this does not happen and drafts are observed, the heat is gradually blown out of the room.

PVC window adjustment

When PVC windows sag, the adjustment is slightly different: first we move the sash one groan so that the protrusions that do not reach the plates eventually catch on them.

To begin with, decide which pins do not reach the locking plates. This is done mechanically. First, we recommend that you inspect the sash, clearly remember where the protrusions are present. The window should be closed. Grasp the base of the sash frame at the place where the pins are mounted and pull it towards you.

If contact is present, the frame will be stationary, if this does not happen, everything should be moved. So it is gradually checked in which place there is no contact and plan in which direction the sash should be moved. This is done by adjusting the lower and upper loops.

Adjustment of plastic windows: adjustment of the lower hinges

If the PVC window is difficult to close in the lower area, move the sash using the hinge located at the bottom. There are two adjustments here: one is carried out along the so-called horizon - it moves closer to the hinges or at a distance from it, and the second, respectively - in the vertical one - lowers or raises the sash by a few millimeters.

To move the lower sash compartment closer or further to the hinge itself, it is slightly opened. At the bottom of the loop there is a hole for the hexagon (less often - for the "asterisk").

Adjustment of plastic windows

Adjustment of the bottom hinge in a PVC window or door

A hexagon is installed in the window, after which, by turning clockwise, the lower corner approaches the loop, against it it moves away. Having moved the sash, you need to try to close / open it. Immediately after achieving the desired result, you should stop. If the resource is twisted to the stop, and there is no result at all, return everything to the standard position: this adjustment is not correct.

With this screw, you can slightly correct the current state of affairs, if the frame at the bottom touches when the window sashes overlap. Slightly bringing it closer to the loop, you completely eliminate this malfunction.

On the hinge located at the bottom there is a second screw necessary for adjustment. To get to it it was easier, you should set the sash in the ventilation position, and then dismantle the lining. It is removed by simple actions, you need to pull the edge in your direction by about 1-2 mm and pull it up. After removing the cap, you can see the recess at the top. 4 mm is installed in it. Hexagon. By turning clockwise, the sash goes up, against - it lowers.

Top Hinge Adjustment

If you cannot cover the upper corner on plastic windows, you should move it a little. To do this, open the window at least 90 degrees. Of course, less is possible, but it will all be very inconvenient to function. There is a loop on the top sash. Purely structurally, it differs located at the bottom, it also has an adjustment for a hexagon.

Plastic window adjustment - upper hinge

Adjusting the top hinge of the PVC window

The adjusting screw is located on the side of the structure. Making a rotational movement, we move the sash away from the hinge (if the far pins from the location do not close) or are located closer to the hinges. One aspect - there should be a gap of a couple of millimeters between the hinge and the sash: it is needed so that the tilt-and-turn mechanism can enter there. Based on this, turning the key by 0.5 amplitude, check how the window functions.

Hello dear readers!

We did a general house cleaning.

While the wife was washing the windows, it turned out that the handles were a little loose. Pulling them up is easy if you know how to do it. I have already taught my wife.

Now I gathered my thoughts and decided to write a useful post for you.

I tried to collect all the tips in detailed instructions, in which you will find not only information about setting up handles, but also a lot of other things.

You just have to try them out.

The active use of metal-plastic windows in today's realities is caused by a number of advantages of these structural elements.

And if such indicators of windows as reliability, durability and aesthetics are initially incorporated into their design, then in order to obtain high-quality consumer criteria (heat, noise insulation), it is desirable to carry out maintenance of systems in a timely manner.

Moreover, in order for the adjustment of plastic windows to be done at the highest level with your own hands, it will be enough just to stock up on a minimum set of tools (a set of “star” keys, pliers, a set of hexagons, screwdrivers) and fixtures.

The list of main malfunctions that can be eliminated by the consumer on their own includes the following items:

  • Rubbing the sash window on the frame in the process of its opening - closing;
  • Loose fit of the sash to the base of the window frame;
  • Handle breakage.

Do-it-yourself PVC window adjustment

To begin with, it is desirable to consider in detail the method of adjusting the window. So, if it is necessary to change the location of the sash (for free opening), then it is advisable to perform a series of sequential procedures:

  1. Open window;
  2. Turn the adjusting screw located in the end part of the sash (upper hinge area) 3-5 turns clockwise;
  3. Close a window;
  4. Remove the protection from the bottom loop;
  5. Using a hexagon, turn the lower hinge adjusting screw 3 to 5 turns clockwise;
  6. Check the operation of the window and the absence of rubbing during operation, and, if necessary, re-adjust the element.

In a situation where it is required to strengthen the degree of fit of the sash to the base of the frame, proceed as follows. First, for these purposes, a system of eccentrics is used, which are located on the end of the sash from the side where the handle is located.

Useful advice!

When it is required to strengthen the degree of fit of the sash to the base of the frame, an eccentric system is used

Why the eccentrics with the help of pliers or a hexagon must be rearranged to the appropriate position.

In some window models, the designs of the eccentrics are made in such a way that in order to adjust them, it is enough just to pull the eccentric towards you, then make the necessary rotation, and only after that release the eccentric (it will be pressed due to the spring).

In general, experts recommend performing a similar procedure for adjusting eccentrics twice a year (off-season), increasing or decreasing the degree of pressing.

However, by this method, it is possible to ensure the adjustment of the pressing of the window from the side where the handle is located. When the user needs to increase the pressing of the sash from the side of the canopies, they do it in a different way.

So, if it is necessary to provide a stronger pressing of the sash (from the side of the awnings) of a rotary-type window structure, then use the adjusting screw on the lower hinge.

When it is required to perform a similar procedure for a tilt-and-turn design, it will be necessary to perform additional adjustment of the window sash pressure due to the upper hinge.

For what it is necessary to perform the procedures in the following sequence:

  1. Open the sash;
  2. Turn the sash handle to the "ventilation" position (simulating the closing of the window by pressing the blocker);
  3. To increase the pressure on the sash, turn the adjusting screw on the hinge clockwise, while to loosen the pressure, turn the knob in the opposite direction.

Certain types of window fittings are adjusted using special taps (usually located on the window frame from the side of the handle) that can be adjusted using hex keys.

So, for a stronger pressing of the window sash to the base of the frame, you will need to move the answer outward (towards the street). They also use clamping mechanisms located on the frame from the side of the canopies.

Their adjustment is carried out with a hexagon, while a stronger pressure of the sash to the frame will be provided when the tongue of the mechanism is extended more strongly.

A fairly common defect in a metal-plastic window is the tight rotation of the handle. Often this circumstance is caused by the fact that the fittings do not have sufficient lubrication.

In this case, window repair comes down to the banal lubrication of the locking mechanism and all rubbing elements with machine oil or aerosol lubricant (for example, WD-40).

A similar method is used to adjust the doors of balcony blocks.

In a situation where it is necessary to completely replace the handle, you should pull the decorative trim of the handle towards you with your fingers and then turn it 90 º (in order to free access to the screws).

By unscrewing the fixing screws, the handle can be easily removed. And the procedure for fixing a new handle must be performed in reverse order.

It should be noted that the guarantee of long-term and high-quality operation of the window depends on the timely performance of service operations, and even in the absence of visual defects, it is advisable to carry out these procedures at least once a year.

Why should all the main components be lubricated, and the rubber seals should be moistened. Also, a few words must be said about the rules for using windows:

  • Turn the window handle only when the sash is fully closed;
  • Do not allow the presence of foreign objects in the free cavity of the window frame;
  • The operation of windows should be carried out taking into account the performance of all finishing works (slopes).

However, it should be noted that, contrary to the elementary nature of the methods described, troubleshooting and window adjustment should be started only after a detailed acquaintance with the principle of operation of the installation.

Otherwise, the more correct method would be the help of specialists in this field.

For the correct and safe adjustment of plastic windows, you need to know several features of their design in order to avoid any damage.

Next, we will tell you how to solve some of the problems that can arise with metal-plastic windows, as well as share recommendations on how plastic windows should be properly adjusted.

In order to independently adjust the plastic window, you must use a 4-mm hex key, which is popularly called the "four".

Adjustment types

1. Consider first the horizontal adjustment of metal-plastic windows. To properly adjust the window, you must use the top and bottom hinges, which have a hole for a hex key.

By rotating the hex key clockwise, the sash is pulled to the hinge. The bottom of the window opposite the hinge should rise slightly.

2. If the hinge is to be moved away from the sash, the key must be rotated correspondingly counterclockwise, which will cause the bottom of the sash to drop slightly.

The lower hinge is adjusted inside the room when the window is open, and outside when it is closed.

The adjustment process is carried out in the same way in two versions. By adjusting the horizontal plane, the frame can be moved up to 2 millimeters, and the bevel can also be eliminated.

3. Vertical adjustment of the window is carried out at the expense of the lower hinge. The hex key is placed under the cap that covers the loop.

Eliminating the bevel of the frame in the vertical direction is also possible up to 2 millimeters.

4. Adjustment of the opening mode is carried out by eccentrics, which are located along the perimeter of the PVC window. When turning the handle, the eccentrics should go beyond the pressure pads, which are also located along the perimeter of the window.

Turning the eccentric to the right, you can strengthen the window clamps to the frame, while turning it to the left, the clamp will loosen. On the eccentric there is a risk that shows the degree of pressure.

If the risk is directed to the seal, the window is strongly pressed against the frame, but if it is towards the outside, it is weak. In order to rotate the eccentrics, you can use pliers or a wrench.

Sometimes plates are used for clamping, which are located on the window sash.

The appropriate level of pressure between the window and the frame depends on the time of year.

It is quite clear that the pressure should be strong in winter and weakened in summer. You can adjust the clamp in the range of 0.8 millimeters.

5. You can adjust the loop pressure for both loops at once or only one loop. This will depend on what fittings are installed on your window.

If necessary, adjust the lower hinge, you must first remove the cap, and then rotate the bolt in the desired direction, which is located perpendicular to the window.

6. Only hinged doors can be adjusted to the top hinge. When adjusting the top hinge, the frame must be supported, as it will only be held by the bottom hinge.

Some plastic windows are equipped with a lock that prevents the open window sash from tilting. Blockers are a lever or clip.

In order to tilt the open plastic window, you need to turn the handle to the ventilation mode while pressing the blocker.

When is uPVC window adjustment needed?

With the help of adjustment, many problems of metal-plastic windows can be eliminated:

  • The window sash sagged, causing the sash bottom to touch the plastic frame. Suitable for horizontal or vertical adjustment.
  • Vertical or horizontal displacement of the sash has caused the middle sash to touch the frame. To fix the problem, it is necessary to move the sash evenly to one side.
  • When air enters through the seal, it is necessary to adjust the sash pressure.
  • To adjust the loose handle, turn the plate, which is located at the base, at a right angle and tighten all the screws with a screwdriver. The base of the handle can also be equipped with a ventilation regulation plate - "combs".
  • With the help of engine oil, you can get rid of such a problem as tight turning of the handle. To lubricate the hinges, eccentrics, clamping mechanisms and platforms, you can use any brushes or cotton swabs that are at hand.

When is adjustment required? Here are the most common signs that a window is ripe for adjustment.

  • When opening (closing), the sash clings to the fittings or to the box.
  • There is a noticeable draft from the window.
  • The handle has become loose or vice versa has become very tight.
  • When the window is open, the handle is jammed and the window does not close.

I want to warn you right away that some problems are the result of a violation of manufacturing or installation technology. Unfortunately, not all of them can be corrected by adjustments ...

We will consider the adjustment of balcony doors separately!

Before we start studying the topic “Adjusting plastic window fittings”, let's define the terminology. The fittings consist of several main units, each of which is responsible for its own area.

The part on the sash is commonly called the “Locking Mechanism”, and the parts attached to the frame are called “Answers”.

To work, we need the following:

  • A set of keys - hexagons.
  • A set of nozzles - stars.
  • Spatula for working with double-glazed windows.
  • Putty knife.
  • Rubber mallet.
  • Linings for double-glazed windows of different thicknesses.
  • Screwdrivers and pliers.
  • Lubricant for fittings.
  • Soft brush.

Much of the above may not be useful to you, but if you are going to adjust the fittings of plastic windows, it is advisable to prepare thoroughly.

Before moving on to practical exercises, I will make a small digression.

Note!

DO NOT adjust the fittings of plastic windows yourself in two cases.

First, if the warranty period has not expired. You still don’t know how to get anything, but you will lose the guarantee for sure.

Secondly, if you are not sure of your abilities. In this case, it would be better to turn to professionals.

Well, with those who are used to solving their problems on their own, we move on.

Now let's decide which node is capable of what.

The lower hinge allows you to move the bottom of the sash up - down, left - right and adjust the pressure.

The trunnions of the locking mechanism are responsible for pressing the entire sash.

In some types of fittings, the pressure is regulated by otvetki, on the frame.

The upper part of the tilt-and-turn mechanism, called "scissors", can shift the top of the sash to the left - to the right and work with a clamp.

Now we will take each case and analyze it in detail. Move on.

Let's continue the analysis of the topic How to adjust plastic windows.

What to do if the bottom of the sash on the side of the handle clings to the answer or to the box - the sash sagged. I want to say right away that on large, heavy doors, there MUST be a “microlift”.

This mechanism, at the moment of closing the sash, resting against a special answer, raises the sash by 2-3 mm, thereby relieving the load from the rest of the fittings. For example, it is unacceptable to install a balcony door without a lift!

And so, the sash sagged. This is treated either by lifting the sash upwards, or by retracting the bottom of the sash in the direction of sagging, and the top in the direction of the hinges.

To raise the sash, remove the decorative cap from the bottom hinge, insert the hexagon from above into the hole and tighten the stop screw.

To shift the bottom of the sash, turn the screw on the frame part of the hinge.

The top of the sash can be moved with a screw located in the scissors from the side of the top hinge. To get close to it, you need to open the sash and rotate the screw to the desired position of the sash.

In general, try not to keep the doors open for a very long time, so as not to sag.

  • The handle is loose - we remove the decorative plate under it, turn it 90 * and tighten the two screws. If, on the contrary, the handle began to turn more and more difficult, a crunch is heard in the mechanism, then it's time to make a complete revision of the window fittings.
  • How to adjust plastic windows, if the handle turns further, to the “ventilation” position, the sash falls out and hangs on scissors, leaning on one lower loop. This means that the blocker did not have time to work.

It is usually located on the locking mechanism in the area of the handle and, with the sash open or tilted for ventilation, is located at an angle to the locking mechanism. In this position, the blocker does not allow turning the handle where it is not necessary.

In our case, to return the sash to its place, you need to move the plate to the sealing rubber with your finger, set the sash to the “just open” position (press the top of the sash from the hinge side) and turn the handle to the desired position.

How to adjust plastic windows if there are drafts.

First of all, carefully inspect the sealing rubber on the sash and frame.

If diaper rash, scuffs and tears are clearly visible, the rubber must be changed. If you decide that the rubber is in order, then you need to increase the pressure of the sash to the frame.

To begin with, check the coincidence of the locking rods (pins) on the sash with the answers on the frame, as in “Adjusting the balcony door”.

On the lower hinge, a screw is responsible for the clamp, located in the body of that part of the hinge that is on the sash. Depending on the brand of fittings, you will need a screwdriver, a hexagon or an asterisk.

But, unfortunately, not all manufacturers install a bottom hinge with pressure adjustment on the windows.

In this case, you will have to adjust the clamp, from the side of the hinges, with “scissors”, “hidden clamp” and a pin on the “middle lock”.

An eccentric screw located on the scissors is responsible for the clamp in the area of the upper loop.

To make it available, do the following:

  1. open the sash
  2. finger press the blocker to the rubber
  3. turn the handle up
  4. and, carefully, we remove the top of the sash from the frame so that the scissors become visible.

The blocker may be of a different design, where the blocking is performed by a movable plate, which is pressed against the frame by the sash.

So, to unlock you need to press the plate.

We insert the hexagon into the head of the eccentric and turn it in the right direction (each brand has its own direction).

Pressing the blocker, we return the sash to its place.

Useful advice!

On the overall doors, from the side of the hinges, as a rule, a hidden clamp is also installed.

It is also regulated (usually with a hexagon) according to the “winter-summer” type.

During rotation, it extends - the pressure plate retracts, thereby changing the clamping force.

If an unregulated one is installed, and you are convinced that it does not work, you need to change it.

Depending on the brand of fittings, this is done either with a hexagon or with pliers. On some trunnions, the eccentric is made in the form of a ring, which must be pulled away from the sash with your fingers and rotated to the desired angle.

There are brands of fittings in which the clamps are commanded by otvetki, I think you can decide. In general, adjusting plastic windows is a very creative process! Especially the first time.

After all the necessary screws have been scrolled, we check the clamp.

This is done as follows: tear off a strip of a palm-width and two palms long from the newspaper, and clamp it between the sash and the frame, where there are no answers. If the strip is easily pulled out - add a clamp.

So check several points from all sides.

Yes, I missed one point. It happens after lifting or tilting the sash, the trunnions begin to cling to the answers or vice versa do not reach them. In this case, the answers must be shifted in the right direction.

We unscrew the self-tapping screw that secures the answer on the frame and, without removing the answer itself, by lightly tapping with pliers on the answer along the frame, we shift it in the right direction. We twist the self-tapping screw.

And now - the most dangerous type of adjustment of plastic windows. This is an adjustment of the double-glazed window. There is a situation when the sash is raised all the way, and its lower part, from the side of the handle, clings to the frame.

That is, the sag is greater than the power reserve of the adjusting stop in the lower loop. I will say right away that under normal conditions such a case practically does not occur, which means that one of the three points was violated:

  1. Correct assembly.
  2. Correct installation.
  3. Proper operation.

Or maybe all three! But, as they say, "it's too late to drink Borjomi" - we will treat. Another case - the "turning" sash sagged. In order to save money, such sashes are often equipped with NON-ADJUSTABLE fittings.

That is, the usual loops and constipation. Here, adjustment is possible ONLY with double-glazed windows.

So let's get started: using the screw in the bottom hinge, lower the sash as far down as possible.

Carefully remove the glazing beads with a spatula (the sash is closed !!!), holding the double-glazed window (it is better to work together).

We mark the glazing beads “lion”, “right”, “top” and take out the double-glazed window itself. Gently put it on something soft (rug, rug) against the wall, laying several newspapers from the wall, for example.

Then we open the sash and in the very corner from the side of the handle we put gaskets on the frame, so that the sash rises by 5-7 mm when closing. We close the sash, as if pushing (lifting) it onto the gaskets.

If we notice that at the moment of closing the entire sash rises, and not just the desired edge, then in the area of \u200b\u200bthe scissors, on the sash, we insert another one without letting the sash up.

Thus, in the place where the sash was mashed, a gap (reserve) of the order of 5 mm was obtained.

We insert a double-glazed window and fix it tightly on all sides with gaskets, according to technology, helping ourselves with a spatula. Gaskets should be inserted very tightly, but carefully - glass is glass.

We hammer the glazing beads with a rubber mallet, starting with short ones.

We check the operation of the sash by removing the lining from the box. If necessary, we correct the adjustments, achieving normal operation.

All this can be avoided by installing a "microlift" on the sash.

In some types of fittings, a blocker can be adapted to the role of a lift. But only those that have a fairly powerful blocker are suitable.

This is done as follows: the blocker response is installed in such a way that when the sash is closed, the blocker does not just press against the rubber, but, as it were, runs into the response, raising the sash by 2-3 mm.

But you need to verify it very accurately so as not to break the lock. By the way, if you install a microlift on an unregulated sash, you will not need to open it.

It was the adjustment of plastic WINDOWS, but we also have doors ...

We remove the old rubber.

We clean the groove from the remnants of glue and sealant. Now we need to determine what kind of rubber we had.

Leading profile manufacturers mainly use four types of rubber:

  • rehau
  • KBE 228

We determine which one we have. If the seal is not similar to any of these types, we take any with a similar leg size.

If you have a choice, it is better to take German - the service life is almost twice as long.

We insert a new rubber, starting from the top of the window (door).

Try not to stretch the rubber, but rather to pick it up. Be especially careful when inserting the seal in the corners.

Then fill the tail end-to-end with the other end of the seal, smearing the ends with glue.

It will not be superfluous to help one more person here.

Turn the handle to the "open" position, but do not open the sash.

Remove the decorative trim from the top loop.

With a flat screwdriver (knife, chisel, etc.), we pull out the pin of the upper loop, you can not completely, but only to disconnect the loop parts.

We slightly tilt the sash towards ourselves and, lifting it up, remove it from the lower hinge.

We take out the upper loop (scissors) from the groove to make it more convenient to work.

We change the seal, as on the frame.

We assemble the mechanism and put the sash in place. We drive the pin of the upper loop and put on the decor.

We close the sash and check the work, if necessary, adjust the adjustments.

Now manufacturers are offered profiles with already glued rubber. When a window (door) is assembled from such a profile, the rubber in the corners, when welded, is fused.

If in the middle of the profile it is difficult to remove the rubber, but it is possible, then it cannot be pulled out in the corners.

We do so. We tear out all the rubber that lends itself, helping ourselves with a screwdriver or something else.

In the corners we mill a groove for rubber with a f-4 mm drill or a vertical cutter of the same diameter.

We clean the place of milling with a knife or chisel.

Insert new tires.

Detailed instructions for adjusting plastic windows

At present, the popularity of plastic windows is no longer in doubt, because they are not only of high quality, but also of affordable cost. And that's not to mention the fact that they are easy to use and perfectly protect against noise.

But, despite this, even the highest quality windows require maintenance, so from time to time it is necessary to call the master to adjust them. Many people ask themselves: “Is it possible to adjust plastic windows without calling a wizard?”.

It's actually not as difficult as it might seem. Therefore, after reading this article, you yourself will be able to deal with minor problems. Remember that in this way you save not only money, but also time.

And now let's move on to the instructions themselves and consider the main problems.

What are the most common problems that you can fix yourself?

Most often, you can encounter the following types of malfunctions, which you can easily fix on your own:

  • When closing, the sash touches the frame from the side or from below
  • The sash is not tight enough to the frame
  • Striker plate wear
  • The handle is blocked when the sash is open in the “closed” mode, the window does not close
  • The sash is closed, but the window does not close, the handle does not turn
  • Handle broke

Note!

After reading this article, you will be able to deal with minor problems yourself.

For repairs, we may need the following tool:

  • Pliers
  • Hexagon (4 mm)
  • Screwdrivers (Phillips and flat)
  • A set of "stars"

Briefly about the general principles of adjusting window sashes

The sashes of almost all modern PVC windows can be adjusted in three planes, thanks to which it is possible to achieve the correct position of the sashes in the frame and to achieve the optimal degree of pressing of the seals along the entire perimeter of the sash.

The ways of adjusting the sash fittings, the appearance of its individual elements and the tool used for adjustment may vary depending on the manufacturer, but in general the general adjustment scheme looks like the one shown in the figures below.

Now let's look at what needs to be done in order to fix the problem in each of the above cases.

When closing, the sash touches the frame from below

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge and up. The procedure for this is approximately the following:

  1. We open the sash.
  2. We turn the adjusting screw located near the upper hinge at the end of the sash with a hexagon clockwise by several turns.
  3. We close the sash.
  4. Remove the cap from the bottom loop.
  5. We insert a hexagon into it and make several turns clockwise.
  6. We check the free play of the sash, if necessary, we carry out adjustment until we fix the malfunction.

The sash touches the side of the frame when closing

In this case, you need to move the sash in the direction of the hinges, for this:

If the side of the sash only touches the frame from below, then it will be enough to move the sash towards the lower hinge. This is easily done with the adjustment screw located under the bottom hinge.

In the event that the side of the sash touches the frame along its entire height, it will also be necessary to move the sash in the direction of the upper hinge.

Striker plate wear

To check the strikers, open a window and inspect them. Most often, there is one bar on each side around the perimeter of the window. If wear is noticeable on one of them, this may indicate that there is an uneven fit of the window in the frame.

In order to solve the problem, you need to open the window, remove the plastic plugs from the adjusting bolts (they are located on the lower and upper hinges, on the same side as the sash) and use a hex key (four mm) to loosen the bolts themselves.

After that, adjust the position of the top half of the window. The adjusting screw will help you with this. First you need to adjust everything relative to the frame "left - right", and then go to the bottom screw and start adjusting the movement "up and down".

It is very easy to monitor the accuracy of the adjustment. To do this, you just need to open and close the window until you understand that the sash fits snugly and evenly into the frame.

The sash is not tight enough to the frame

From the side of the handle on the lateral end of the sash there is a system of eccentrics, with the help of which the pressure density against the sash frame is regulated.

They may have a different appearance depending on the manufacturer, but the principle of operation is the same in all cases.

By rotating the eccentrics with pliers or a hexagon, you can adjust the required degree of pressing the sash to the frame.

If you need to adjust the degree of pressing the window sash to the frame from the side of the hinges, this can be done using the adjusting screw located on the lower hinge.

If this sash is a tilt-and-turn sash, then you can additionally adjust the sash pressure using the top hinge.

To get to the adjusting bolt located on the scissors near the upper hinge, you need to open the sash and then, after pressing the blocker, set the handle to the ventilation mode.

If you need to press the sash against the frame, then you need to rotate the bolt clockwise, respectively, you can loosen the clamp by turning the bolt counterclockwise.

Some types of fittings are regulated exclusively with the help of the answers located on the side of the handle. The position of the strikers is adjustable with a hexagon.

Useful advice!

To increase the pressure of the window sash to the frame, you need to move the bar towards the street.

On the hinge side of the frame there are also clamping mechanisms adjustable with a hexagon. The more you pull out the tongue, the more the sash will be pressed against the frame.

The handle is blocked when the sash is open in the “closed” mode, the window does not close

The handle can only be turned when the sash is closed to prevent breakage of the hardware mechanisms. To prevent accidental turning of the handle when the sash is open, special locks are provided located under the handle at the end of the sash.

Depending on the manufacturer, they also come in various types. Before unlocking the handle, you need to press the lock.

The sash is closed, but the window does not close because the handle does not turn

If, after closing the sash, the handle does not turn, this means that the engagement of the blocker with the counter element located on the frame does not work.

This problem can be solved in two ways:

  1. Using the adjusting screw located under the lower hinge, move the sash slightly in the direction of the counterpart of the blocker
  2. Slightly loosening the mount, insert any thin plate of hard material between the counterpart of the blocker and the frame

It happens, it also happens that the plastic window does not close at all (for example, if the window opens in two positions at once). How to be in such a case? Read my article "The plastic window does not close - what should I do?"

Handle broke

In order to replace the plastic window handle, you need to slightly pull the handle cover towards you and turn it 90 degrees.

This happens, as a rule, due to insufficient lubrication. To prevent such a situation, it is necessary to lubricate the hardware mechanisms at least once a year. For these purposes, you can use aerosol lubricants or machine oil.

It is worth noting that the control of the technical condition and the lubrication of all mechanisms of window fittings must be carried out even in the absence of visible defects at least once a year.

If you are interested in adjusting plastic windows, it is useful to remember that:

  • it is necessary to periodically check the condition of the rubber seals in order to prevent their wear;
  • if you remove decorative plastic plugs, do it carefully, as they are very fragile; make sure not to deform or crush them during the main work;
  • if your frame or the window opening itself is deformed, then you will not be able to adjust the windows yourself;
  • If you are not sure that you can do everything yourself, it is better to entrust the work to a trusted specialist. So you can be sure that everything is done with high quality and nothing needs to be redone.

I suggest watching a video that clearly shows how to adjust the plastic window with your own hands.
