How to hang curtains on grommets. How to attach eyelets for curtains: detailed instructions

For those who prefer stylish solutions with a minimalist design to classic curtains, we tell you all about the curtains on the grommets.

What are eyelets?

Grommets are collapsible plastic rings that are inserted into holes in the top of the curtain and used to hang it on the eaves. Due to the fact that the rings are located at the same distance from each other, beautiful uniform folds are formed on the canvas that hold the shape. They look strictly and concisely, emphasizing the minimalist design of textiles.

Curtains with eyelets are hung only on round (rod) cornices. The size of the rings is selected according to the diameter of the rod so that they move freely.

Features of sewing curtains

Eyelets can be inserted both into thick curtains and light tulle.

In order for the top of the curtain to keep its shape, a dense grommet is glued along the edge of the fabric. It turns out a rigid bar 8-10 cm high, in which holes are punched, and then halves of the ring are inserted from both sides and snapped into place, clamping the fabric.

To get a beautiful wave, a distance of 15 to 22 cm is maintained between the eyelets - the larger it is, the larger the fold. Another secret - there should always be an even number of rings.

Fabrics for the manufacture of such curtains are used a little. Usually, to determine the width of the canvas, the length of the cornice is multiplied by 2, while for classic curtains this coefficient is 3–3.5. This is another reason why minimalists love eyelets. If you want a lot of textiles on the window, eyelets will not suit you.

Although eyelet curtains require less fabric than usual, they are somewhat more expensive to sew. For example, with a material width of 2 m + 2 m and a cost per 1 m - 2000 rubles, sewing on a curtain tape will cost 11,080 rubles, on eyelets - 15,240 rubles.

Now in chain stores you can find ready-made curtains on the grommets. But there is either no adhesive tape in them at all, or it is of poor quality. A hard crease on such curtains lasts until the first wash, and then disappears. People are forced to contact us in the salon and alter the product.

Use in the interior

Eyelet curtains look beautiful in spacious rooms with high ceilings, decorated in a modern style. Today they are often used in marine themes. They will be appropriate in the living room, bedroom, children's room, home office, dining room. You can hang them without tulle.

If you want to decorate the window with curtains with tulle, we recommend making the curtain on the eyelets, and collect the tulle on the curtain tape. It is not only beautiful, but also functional. Curtains can be moved to close the room from the sun or prying eyes.

Sometimes they ask to make tulle and curtains on the eyelets, but this is not a working option.

You can hang tulle on eyelets without curtains - there is a transparent grommet on sale especially for this purpose. But as practice shows, it is better to sew the top of the tulle with a dense fabric, for example, to match the color of the furniture, and insert a dense adhesive tape. It will be both prettier and more reliable.

It is not recommended to use eyelets in apartments with low ceilings. To make the rack with folds look, the cornice must be hung at least 7-8 cm below the ceiling level. And this will make the room visually even more squat.

The functionality of the curtains on the grommets

Curtains on the grommets not only look beautiful, but are also comfortable and practical.

They move smoothly and silently along the eaves, easily move apart / retract. Unlike products on hooks, they are almost impossible to cut off. Eyelets withstand dense heavy fabrics without problems.

With high-quality tailoring, you can wash the curtains with rings - they will not open, they will not fall out of the holes, the tape will not peel off and retain their shape.

It is difficult to imagine the interior of a room without window decoration. A room without curtains looks uncomfortable and uninhabited. Choosing curtains is only half the battle, they still need to be beautifully hung. Modern designers offer an original way of attaching curtains using eyelets.

You should not go to specialized salons to purchase a fashionable novelty. You can sew curtains on the grommets with your own hands, and step-by-step instructions will help with this.

What are eyelets

The word "eyelet" came to Russia from Holland. Initially, it denoted a hole in the sail through which tackle was passed. Over time, this term moved from the marine lexicon to the design one. In the language of interior creators, eyelets are a detail that frames an opening in a curtain. Consists of two parts: back and forward. Carries both a functional and a decorative load.

Types of eyelets

With the growing popularity of eyelets, manufacturers have significantly expanded their product range and produce products for every taste, taking into account consumer demand, sometimes even ahead of it.

All types of eyelets can be divided into four groups according to different parameters:

  • form;
  • material;
  • diameter
  • design.

The most common form of eyelets is a ring; it is rare to find oval or square options. The fastening coincides in appearance with the contour of the section of the eaves.

Rings are made of metal, plastic, there are also wooden products that will harmoniously look in the interior of rooms, the design of which is made in the Provence or Country directions. Metal ones will look organically in a high-tech room, and plastic ones, thanks to a wide palette of colors and a variety of textures, will fit into any design solutions.

The diameter of the eyelets, as well as the shape, depends on the type of cornice. To ensure easy sliding, the diameter of the mounting ring should be 1.5–2 cm larger than the cross section of the rod.

The largest group is designer eyelets. The richness of the imagination of the developers is limitless, consumers are offered a huge selection of fasteners of different shapes, shades, with a beautiful decorative finish.

You can find on sale eyelets in the shape of a star, a drop, a geometric figure. Products are decorated with rhinestones, engraving, embossing. Fasteners are produced with various textures: wood, stone, transparent. They are painted in all sorts of shades. So there is always something to choose from.

Benefits of using

Curtains on grommets have a number of undeniable advantages and advantages over other types of curtains.

  1. Ease of expansion. Such a curtain, unlike other multi-layer structures, easily slides along the rod, does not cling to anything, and does not require additional devices for moving.
  2. Fastening reliability. Such curtains will never come off the curtain rod, as is often the case with hooks and clips. The mounts are securely held on the bar, which is an indisputable advantage when using them in children's rooms and in the kitchen.
  3. The ability to create uniform folds. Their order and form are not violated during operation.
  4. Easy to take off and hang up. Such curtains are much easier to remove and put on the bar than ordinary curtains. In order to hang the curtains in place after washing and ironing, it is enough to string them one by one on the guide rod. Ring holders do not need to be removed before washing.
  5. Comfortable ironing. Curtains with grommet fastening are easy and simple to iron. They are a rectangle without folds and gathers, which usually make ironing difficult.

disadvantages

Despite all the advantages, there are also disadvantages to these curtains. They are connected with the design features and installation of the rings-holders.

If the overall interior of the room requires the design of a window in a traditional style, then eyelets will not work. The combination of thick curtains and light tulle requires at least two strings or rods. In the case of rings, there is only one guide, and two will look extremely cumbersome.

Some fabrics may shrink in the warp and weft after washing. Even a special grommet for curtains often cannot cope with deformation. The problem is solved by combining two canvases in the manufacture of curtains.

Which rings are better - metal or plastic

In the selection process, it is difficult to determine what to give preference to - plastic or metal. It is impossible to answer unambiguously, although the first material has a number of advantages over the second.

Advantages of plastic holders:

  1. Lightweight products.
  2. Easy to install, no special tools required for installation.
  3. Wide color palette.
  4. Imitation of the surface of various materials: wood, metal, glass.
  5. Not susceptible to corrosion, do not leave rust marks after washing.
  6. The cost is much lower than the metal counterparts.

When choosing plastic fasteners, one nuance should be taken into account - the coating. Rings with a matte surface look discreet and last longer. Glossy products look brighter and more festive, but after some time they lose their original luster.

But it happens that the style of the room requires metal holders, besides, they are much stronger than plastic counterparts, which means they will last longer.

What to look for when choosing eyelets

Having solved the issue with the material, you should decide on the color of the mounting rings. For them, there is only one requirement - products should not violate the overall harmony of the interior. Therefore, the color is selected to match the surroundings. In some cases, contrasting combinations are allowed, in which case the emphasis is shifted to the eyelet. It will not be superfluous to play with the appearance of the rings. The unusual shape will enliven the interior and give it a touch of originality.

The last thing to decide is the size of the mount. In order for the curtain to slide easily, the hole of the ring should be slightly larger than the diameter of the rod. Rings ranging in size from 10 to 50 mm are considered the best option.

How to sew tulle on eyelets yourself

Despite the apparent complexity, sewing curtains on the grommets is quite simple. Adhering to some tips from experienced craftsmen and step-by-step instructions, which you can find enough on the Internet, you can make a product that is not inferior to factory counterparts. The expanses of the Internet are full of guides and master classes that tell you how to sew such curtains yourself and install fasteners.

Fabric calculation

To achieve a harmonious drapery, for which curtains on grommets are valued, it is necessary to take 2.5–3 widths of the cornice. If you buy less fabric, then beautiful and expressive folds will not work, and vice versa, an overly wide curtain will look bulky.

Allowances for edge processing are added to the resulting width. Their value depends on the type of processing: overlock or double fold. If a curtain is planned from two halves, an allowance for closing is added so that the shifted curtains look like one piece. As a rule, the closure allowance is 7–8 cm.

The height is taken arbitrary: the curtain can be both up to the floor and up to the windowsill. To the desired height, add 13–20 cm for the hem: 3–5 cm from the bottom and 10–15 cm from the top, depending on the material and width of the special reinforcing tape.

Necessary tools and materials

Having decided on the fabric and dimensions, you should prepare all the necessary tools.

For work you will need:

  • eyelets;
  • sharpened scissors;
  • grommet for curtains (replacement with doubler or interlining is possible);
  • tailor's chalk or pencil;
  • sewing accessories: needles, threads, scissors;
  • iron;
  • sewing machine.

Sewing curtains does not require special skills, just basic knowledge and the ability to work on a sewing machine are enough.

Initial fabric processing

Tailoring begins with the processing of the edges.

Procedure:

  1. From above, 2 cm is bent to the wrong side, ironed.
  2. The size of the next hem depends on the width of the grommet.
  3. Inside the folded part of the curtains, a tape is laid, the length of which is shorter than the width of the curtains by the amount of allowances for the side hem.
  4. Curtains are carefully ironed. In order not to spoil the fabric with a hot iron, it is better to use a white cotton canvas.
  5. A line is laid along the upper edge of the curtain and at the place of the turn.
  6. Then the bottom of the curtains and the side parts are processed with a double hem.

For curtains made of dense material, the hem can be made larger, and vice versa, for light, flowing fabrics, the size of the upper allowance will be minimal. Its value is also affected by the size of the eyelets: it increases as the diameter of the fasteners increases.

Marking places for fastening eyelets

Installation of eyelets begins with markings. After making sure that the tape is securely glued, and the edges are properly processed, you can start marking, along which the rings will subsequently be installed.

To achieve the effect of a beautiful wave, the number of rings must always be even, and the number of gaps between the rings must be odd.

First, they are determined with the value of the upper indent - a scallop. For dense fabrics, it is larger, for tulle, organza and tulle - less. The distance between the rings can vary from 15 (soft drapery) to 22 cm (embossed folds). The optimal interval is 18 cm.

Instruction:

  1. First you need to lay out the fabric on a flat surface.
  2. Retreat 5-7 cm from the edge - make the first mark.
  3. On the opposite side, do the same - this will be the last mark.
  4. Attach fasteners, circle its inner circumference with chalk.
  5. Repeat this procedure at regular intervals.

Ring fastening

After marking, proceed to install the rings. Scissors cut out a circle on the fabric, stepping back from the edge of the mark 1–2 mm to the outer edge. One half of the eyelet is placed from the inside, the other - from the front side of the curtain. Snap into place.

How to properly fix the cornice

It remains to hang the finished curtains on the bar. To achieve a beautiful drapery, you need to choose a cornice of a suitable length. Ideally, it should exceed the width of the window opening by at least 15 cm.

A distinctive feature of these curtains is a beautiful "comb", so the cornice should not be set too high. There must be some distance between the ceiling and the guide.

The cornice is attached to the wall with brackets. Ceiling mounting is possible, but in this case, a long bracket should be chosen to avoid deformation of the upper edge of the curtains.

How to care for eyelet curtains

During operation, any curtains get dirty, dust settles on them, so washing cannot be avoided.

Machine wash

If the manufacturer has indicated a special icon on the fabric label that allows machine washing, then you can safely entrust the curtains to household appliances. No special preparation of curtains for the cleaning procedure is required.

The following rules must be followed:

  1. Wash only in a special bag. If this is not at hand, you can replace it with a pillowcase of a suitable size.
  2. Set the temperature to low, transfer the machine to the delicate mode.
  3. Light materials (tulle, organza) are better not to wring out. It is enough to carefully hang the curtains, after all the water has drained, the fabric will smooth out under its own weight.

Handwash

If the fabric manufacturer does not allow machine washing, you will have to wash the curtains by hand. It is recommended to use a shampoo or a special gel. Curtains are soaked in warm water for a while, and then rinsed thoroughly.

It happens that after washing, fabric is knocked out from under the ring. You shouldn't be afraid of this. To eliminate this problem, it is enough to remove the ring, fill the loose material and reassemble the structure together.

The use of eyelets provides the hostess with many opportunities to change and improve the interior. So, curtains can be used to zone a small room. Open curtains look playful, give the usual bedroom a boudoir look, and tightly shifted give a sense of privacy and intimacy.

Eyelets can be used not only as fasteners, they also cope with a decorative function, at the same time being an ornament and part of the composition.

You can safely play with the mount, sometimes trying the most unexpected combinations.

Do not believe the statement that the curtain for curtains on the grommets is not the most successful companion. The combination of flowing tulle, gathered at the top and fixed on the cornice in the traditional way (with hooks or clothespins), with thick curtains strung on a rod, looks original, unusual and incredibly beautiful.

Curtains are almost always attached to the cornice - this is a convenient way, proven for centuries. But at the same time, you can hang them in different ways. In this article, we will talk about the most popular ways of attaching curtains to a cornice for different interior styles and rooms.

How to hang curtains: ties

The curtain with strings is simply tied to the cornice with a knot or bow. The ties can be made from the same material as the curtains and sewn to them, or they can be selected separately and threaded through the holes.

Style. Fabric strips or ribbons tied into a bow will look best on weightless curtains for a bedroom or nursery, or on linen kitchen curtains. They add romanticism and playful lightness, and therefore the best styles for curtains with ties: provence, shabby chic, country and vintage. If you choose a rough natural lace and tie it in a knot, this will be an interesting solution for eco and rustic styles.

Pros. Additional decoration; noiselessness; can be attached without removing the cornice.

Minuses. It is difficult to move along the ledge; difficult to distribute at symmetrical distances for even folds of curtains; hang for a long time - tie each rope by hand; not suitable for heavy curtains.

loops

Loops, like ties, are made from strips of fabric. However, the loops are usually wider than the ties (5-20 cm) and are sewn to the curtain with both ends, nothing needs to be tied. An alternative option is the presence of Velcro, a button or a button.

Style. The reception is universal and will suit both classical and modern styles, but mainly to "home" and cozy interiors. For a solid living room or office, they are rustic. But in the Scandinavian style - this is the best choice.

Pros: hang quickly; withstand heavy loads; silent; universal;

Minuses: in the absence of a fastener on the hinges, you need to remove the crossbar of the cornice to hang the curtains; difficult to move along the ledge; difficult to distribute.

eyelets

Metal or plastic rings are sewn into the top of the curtain. With the help of these rings, the curtain can be either strung on a cornice or hung with hooks, but the first method is more common and is not visually overloaded.

Style. Grommets are the perfect attachment for heavy curtains in the bedroom or living room. They are suitable for restrained, slightly heavy styles: strict classics, grunge, retro. They look good in lofts and in minimalist interiors, since the fasteners themselves hardly stand out.

Pros: quickly hung on the eaves; slide easily; allow you to easily distribute the curtains along the eaves and provide symmetrical folds; wear-resistant; withstand a lot of weight.

Minuses: move noisily along the ledge; can scratch the eaves; you need to remove the bar to hang the curtains; not suitable for light and thin curtains and tulle.

Rings

Rings are similar to eyelets, but located outside the curtains. The rings are strung on the cornice, and the curtain is already attached to them - it can be sewn, tied, hung on a hook or through eyelets. The rings themselves can be plastic, metal or wood.

Style. The material of the rings greatly affects the style: wooden rings are suitable for eco, rustic, country and strict classic styles; metal will fit into high-tech, loft and other modern styles. Rings are the right approach to straight curtains or canvases that you want to hang with rare large folds.

Pros: withstand heavy curtains; universal; easy to move the curtain along the eaves; wear-resistant; drape easily; not demanding on the shape of the cornice.

Minuses: move noisily; difficult to remove; require an additional method of attaching the curtain to the ring.

Hooray! All construction and finishing work is behind us: brand new plastic windows have replaced the old wooden frames, the ceiling is painted, and nice wallpaper flaunts on the walls. Now you can proceed to the most interesting - the design of window openings with curtains and cornices under them. Here we will need not only design skills, but also skillful hands, so let's talk about how to install a cornice on a stretch ceiling, basic or just on a wall.

Important to know before installation

Below we have collected a number of rules, without which the installation of a curtain holder is unlikely to be successful:

  • First of all, you need to choose a suitable cornice, based on the capabilities of the room.(dimensions, wall construction, etc.) and models of future curtains. For example, curtains with eyelets can only be hung on a round cornice.
  • The holder itself should be 40 cm wider than the window.. The distance between it and the window opening is approximately 15 cm - this is the only way the window will open freely, and the curtains will not come into contact with the battery. In addition, the cornice must be installed 5 cm above the window opening itself.

Advice!
If a heating pipe runs along the wall at the place where the eaves are installed, then its dimensions should also be taken into account.

  • Check out the holder design first.. Assemble it with your own hands and see if all the details of the screws, dowels are enough, if there are any serious defects. Keep in mind that the bracket of a plastic or wooden cornice is fastened with one self-tapping screw and a dowel, but a metal one with three.

By the way!
If you are going to install the holder on a brick wall, then the dowels should be replaced with wooden plugs.

  • In the event that the total length of the cornice is more than 2 meters, the number of fasteners increases to three: two on the sides and one in the center. Otherwise, the product will break, unable to withstand its own weight and the severity of the curtains.
  • The distance along the edges of the window should be the same. An exception is the situation when the cornice is installed along the entire wall.
  • Mounting cornices on a fragile ceiling or wall (for example, if they are made of gypsum concrete) requires special care. As a rule, in such cases, 12 mm dowels are taken. However, there is a catch: these dowels are designed for thick and long screws, which are not suitable for weak bases.
    The way out of the situation will be as follows: insert smaller dowels into large dowels and drive in with light blows of a hammer; we drill in two stages - first we make a small hole with a drill, and only then we drill it to the desired diameter, using only the rotation mode.
  • Before starting installation of curtain rods for curtains, make sure that there is no live wire nearby. And the indicator will help you with this.

Work with various models of cornices + installation on stretch ceilings

The algorithm of actions for installing all types of holders is quite similar, but there are still some features. Therefore, we will consider them below.

But first, a list of tools needed for the job:

  • pencil;
  • roulette;
  • ruler;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • drill or perforator;
  • building level;
  • hacksaw for wood or metal;
  • dowels, self-tapping screws;
  • ladder.

Installation of a round cornice

This type of holders is used more often for decorative purposes, since they are not covered by baguettes or by the curtains themselves, but are completely visible. Also, round products are chosen for curtains with eyelets, because others will not work in this case.

You can install round cornices both on the wall and on the ceiling. Fasteners always come with them, but it happens that they are not suitable due to the characteristics of the walls in the house (too loose, for example). Then you will need self-tapping screws and larger dowels for deeper penetration into the support in order to increase the reliability of fastening.

So, we begin the installation - a curtain rod with eyelets:

stage number Actions
1. Markup is done first! Perhaps the most difficult and crucial moment. Difficult, because everything needs to be done as accurately as possible, otherwise the cornice will hang crooked.

Marking is done with a level, ruler and pencil. The main thing is to ensure that the distance from the window to the mounting point of the holder is the same on both sides. Also take a look at the beginning of the article, where we indicated some parameters for the location of the cornice that must be observed (if, of course, you want the window to function freely and be perfectly designed).

2. With a pencil we mark on the wall places for dowels.
3. We drill the first hole for the dowel. As already mentioned, it is enough to fasten the brackets of wooden and plastic cornices to one dowel and a self-tapping screw. But the brackets of metal products - two or three.
4. Insert the dowel(s) into the hole(s).
5. We fix the first bracket on the self-tapping screw. At this stage, we once again check the accuracy of the distances from the window to the fasteners. A crookedly hung holder will deprive you of peace for a long time!
6. We thread the bar into the first fixed bracket, put on rings and hooks.
7. We put the second bracket on the bar and only after that we fix it to the wall or ceiling in the same way.
8. Behind the brackets, it is advisable to leave a pair of rings that will fix the curtains on the sides.
9. We put decorative tips on the edges of the rod.

Attention!
Do not forget, if the total length of the eaves is more than 2-2.5 meters, then in the center it is necessary to strengthen it by installing an additional bracket.

Mounting the rail holder

This is the one in the design of which sliding rollers are provided. Today there are many such models! They are made, as a rule, from three materials: plastic, aluminum, steel.

The first are the best option for light curtains. The latter are indispensable in the design of bay windows. Well, the third ones are good for massive curtains.

Rail holders are sold in standard lengths, but if necessary, they can be shortened with a hacksaw (when cutting the rail, it is placed with the flat side up). The kit includes screws, slider brackets, rollers, hooks and stops that prevent sliders and hooks from slipping.

You can mount such a cornice on a wall or ceiling, here are the instructions for each of these options:

stage number Ceiling installation Wall mounting
1. Given the presence of pipes or batteries, we retreat from the wall at least 10-15 cm. The minimum height of the fasteners to the upper edge of the window opening should be at least 5-7 cm.

In the place marked with a pencil for the first bracket, we drill a hole. A 6 mm drill and dowels are suitable here.

2. On the cornice itself, every 20 cm we mark with a pencil the places of future holes for fasteners. We put the bracket on the screws, but do not tighten.
3. We attach the holder to the ceiling and drill holes. There is no help here. Mark the location of the second bracket.
4. Installation of the ceiling cornice is carried out on special screws that come with the kit. But you can replace them with dowels and screws. We insert the rail into the first bracket that is not fully tightened, and substitute the second one in place of the future fasteners and, using the building level, check whether the eaves will hang evenly.
5. We insert rollers, runners, hooks and a limiter into the gutters. We mount the second bracket.
6. We tighten the screws thoroughly.
7. First we insert the rollers, then the sliders, then the hooks and finally the limiter.

By the way!
Profile aluminum cornices, single-row and multi-row, are installed using the same technologies.

Installing a string cornice for light curtains

The string of these products is made of polymer cable or steel wire. It betrays the whole structure with lightness, subtlety, grace, which, in fact, excludes hanging heavy curtains on it. Even if you pull the string well during installation, it will sag under the weight of massive theater-type curtains.

You can install the string cornice both on the wall and on the ceiling. The procedure is as follows:

Mounting the baguette holder

Absolutely any ceiling holder for curtains can be upgraded to baguette. To do this, you just need to attach to the product, which will serve as an excellent decor that hides all the ugly hooks and fasteners.

The material, colors and design of baguette cornices are impressive. You will certainly find what you need. And the setup will be like this:

Installation of a cornice on stretch ceilings

In principle, the sequence of actions is almost no different from the previously considered installation technologies. The main feature here is that the installation of the curtain holder is carried out parallel to the installation of the stretch fabric. Therefore, it is important to carefully and accurately carry out preliminary work.

The price of an error is the complete dismantling of both structures, which can lead to damage to products. And if the repair of curtain rods for curtains is a rather simple matter, then the stretch ceiling is more "capricious" in this regard.

Installation can be done in two ways:

stage number Installation in a hidden niche Installation directly on the tension web
1. In a specially left niche, around the entire perimeter of the base ceiling, we fix a wooden beam to the dowels.

The beam and the cornice mounted on it should not protrude from the niche cavity. Pay attention to this.

We prepare in advance a wooden beam (one long or 2-3 short), which will serve as a support for the eaves.

The thickness of the timber, as a rule, is slightly less than the distance by which the ceiling will be displaced.

2. Using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, we attach the cornice to the timber. You can do this without preliminary marking, every 20 cm. Using dowels, we fix the beam horizontally on the base ceiling, where it is supposed to hang the curtain holder.
3. We mount.
4. Already on the stretched canvas we mark the attachment points of the eaves.
5. In places of future punctures, we fix the fixing rings so that the canvas does not break.
6. We burn holes inside the rings.
7. Through these holes we mount our holder to the bar with self-tapping screws.

Conclusion

As you can see, anyone can install a curtain holder! So you do not have to overpay extra money, plus there is an opportunity to do everything at your discretion. The main thing is not to forget the basic rules and correctly markup, which the video in this article will teach you.

By purchasing curtains with grommets, we get a functional and aesthetic "outfit" for our windows. But how to hang curtains so that they show all their advantages?

Curtains will not look beautiful if they do not match the appropriate cornice. He will give the curtains a charm, thanks to which they will play in a completely different way, defining the atmosphere of the room.

Varieties

Curtain rods on eyelets are diverse in their design, colors and style, so you get an individual design option.

Plastic

It has always been considered an economical and sufficiently strong material. Its advantages include lightness, decorativeness, due to which plastic cornices for curtains on the grommets acquire an aristocratic look and it is almost impossible to distinguish them from more expensive wooden and metal structures. The only drawback of such a cornice will be the impossibility of using curtains for thick fabrics. The plastic cornice is too light for them, so it is more suitable for tulle, silk, which have a high light penetrating ability.

Metal

Durable, expensive material, which is often decorated with forged elements. It has different colors that look quite aristocratic - “gold”, “silver”, “bronze”. The main advantage of metal is its strength. It will serve for a long time and practically will not wear out, it can withstand any weight of curtains, even tapestry ones.

Wood

The purchase of wooden cornices for eyelets means a choice in favor of natural, environmentally friendly products. Along with the use of forged elements, the wooden cornice is decorated with carvings, tips, patterned brackets, and various pipe endings are used. The only drawback of a wooden cornice is the difficulty in selecting eyelets. In all other respects, such a cornice is not inferior to either metal or plastic.

Cornice diameter

In the manufacture of the cornice, the diameter of the pipe is taken into account. It is selected in such a way that the curtain moves freely along the eaves and is attached to the grommets. Keep in mind that metal makes noise and at the slightest breath of wind, you will hear the creaking of metal, which will certainly prevent you from sleeping.

A photo of cornices for eyelets demonstrates the features of attaching curtains.

  1. The denser the fabric of the curtains, the more durable the eyelets are used. Veil fabric or tulle is hung on plastic or wooden eyelets. So it looks the most harmonious and does not make a lot of noise when moving the curtains. Blackout curtains have larger eyelets, which are usually metal, to support the weight of the fabric. If you use metal eyelets for tulle, then you will probably be annoyed by the rattle emitted by the metal when the curtains are moved.
  2. The curtains on the grommets are distinguished by a beautiful "comb", which will not be noticeable if you hang the cornice too high. It is necessary to leave a distance between the ceiling and the eaves.
  3. To better move the eyelets along the wooden cornice, it is necessary to rub the cornice with wax.
  4. Washing of curtains will take place only after removing the eaves, from which the tips are removed, the curtains are taken out. They need to be hand washed. The cornice can be wiped with a mild soapy solution.
  5. The cornices are attached to the wall with brackets. A cornice can also be hung from the ceiling, but a long bracket is needed, otherwise the curtain will be deformed.
  6. Try to match the cornice and curtain in contrast, i.e. using different shades. They will allow you to play with color and highlight the interior of your room, adding originality.

Features of choice

It is necessary to choose a cornice, based on your own taste. Otherwise, you will not like the result and will not deliver the proper emotions.

First, pay attention to the length of the cornice. It should be long, then the curtain will fit beautifully around its perimeter, forming many pleasant folds. The width of the window opening must be exceeded by the eaves by 15 cm. This is the minimum requirement. The curtain will look even more spectacular if you add a tip to the cornice, then increase the distance by another 5 cm.

The cornice will play for real if you experiment with the choice of the color of the eyelets and the material of the cornice. For example, if a dark pattern is used on the curtain, then metal eyelets can be matched to it. If the cornice is made of wood, and the curtain matches it, this design option seems to be the best. Plastic colored eyelets, combined with the curtain ornament, will help to bloom this composition.

The use of a double curtain rod makes it possible to hang two types of curtains. One, as a rule, is used for dimming, and the second transmits light rays. In this case, one of these curtains is hung on a metal cornice, and the second on a cornice located further or higher. This design cannot look bulky, because modern designers use different design techniques. You can even combine different types of curtains - rolled and grommets.

The choice of cornice is determined by your preferences, but also by the features of the design of the space, compliance with proportions and color schemes. Therefore, the issue of choice should be approached responsibly.
