How to equip a concrete shed for storage. We build ourselves a frame shed with a shed roof

No matter how much space there is in a country house, on a personal plot one cannot do without such a necessary outbuilding as a barn.

If there is no experience of self-construction yet, but the owner knows how to handle the tool, he can easily build a barn at the dacha with his own hands, following the instructions.

If the shed will be located next to the house, and it is important that it looks aesthetically pleasing, it is better to use the same materials from which the house is built. To reduce the cost of construction, you can finish the shed with siding - it can be different, and imitates any materials - wood, brick, stone of different textures.

How to make a barn quickly and inexpensively

Guided by step-by-step instructions on how to make a barn on your own, you can build it as soon as possible, while spending very little money.

One of the easiest, fastest and cheapest options is a frame shed. The frame itself can be either made of wood or metal, it is sheathed on the outside with suitable material, a roof is installed - and a convenient outbuilding is ready for use.

If the barn is wooden, then the frame can be made of timber. But it is more convenient, more reliable and durable to make a frame from profiled pipes with a rectangular or square section - a profile with a round section is more difficult to join and weld.

There are also ready-made metal frames on sale, which are assembled using self-tapping screws, and at the factory you can order a design according to your own drawing.

As practice shows, the assembly of both metal and wooden sheds usually takes only a few days. The photo shows sheds on frames - what they are, and how beautifully they can be finished.

What to be the foundation

Sheds on frames are lightweight buildings, so the foundation for them is made lightweight. Most often, several posts, screw piles or a concrete block are enough - one or more, depending on the area of the barn.

If the soil on the land plot is complex, the foundation can be a shallow strip foundation from special monolithic blocks.

A reinforced strip foundation will withstand even bricks and building blocks as walls - the building will be reliable and will not crack on the ground, which is prone to swelling, since the movement of the structure will occur along with the foundation.

The choice of the type of foundation depends on the soil on the site, the area of the barn, the material from which it is built, as well as the financial capabilities of the owners of the site. But the easiest, fastest and cheapest way is to build a barn on a frame without a foundation.

Frame shed without foundation

Frame sheds can be built without a foundation at all. There are two options. In one case, the racks treated against decay are deepened by 60-80 cm, concreted, and then the lower trim is attached to them, on which the floor is laid on the logs. It should be noted that this method is only suitable for building a small area.

On soils that absorb and drain water well, you can also build a barn without a foundation like this: the site for construction is marked in such a way that the site on which the barn will stand is 0.5 m wider on each side than the area of the building itself .

Sod is removed from the ground and sand and gravel bedding is made, which must be carefully compacted. A strapping beam is laid on the prepared place, logs for the floor treated with an antiseptic are attached to it - the logs will be in direct contact with the ground, so treatment with an antiseptic is required.

As soon as logs for the future floor are laid on the site, the floor itself is made. It can be made of board, from sheets of moisture-resistant plywood or from oriented strand board (OSB). In this case, the recommended thickness of materials:

 • for the board - 20 mm;
 • for plywood and OSB - 13-15 mm.

When the site for the building is ready, you can begin to build a barn.

Note!

When building a frame shed with a shed roof, the roof should be installed correctly - its angle of inclination should be such that snow easily rolls off it.

Practice shows that the optimal angle of inclination is achieved with a height of one wall - 3 m, and the opposite - 2.4 m. It is good to cover the roof with ondulin - this roofing material is also called euroslate.

Ondulin is much more attractive in appearance than slate, it has a wavy shape, and its color can be different, this allows you to make the roof of the barn beautiful, cheerful, truly country.

Having started assembling the frame, first, racks of each wall are mounted alternately in the floor. If not boards are chosen for sheathing, but ready-made slabs - made of wood, metal or other material, sheathing can be installed on the frame of each wall in advance, on the ground, and the wall can be fixed to the floor in finished form. Alternatively, the walls can be sheathed with OSB 9.5 mm thick.

There is an alternative technology - Balloon (balun). With this method, the installation is carried out gradually - immediately on the strapping or the blocks themselves, the corner frame racks are fixed as the racks are mounted in height. Between them, at each new height level, a rope is pulled, along which the next racks are then set up.

Note!

When arranging window and door openings, it should be taken into account that the load on the frame is greater here, therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the frame in those places where the window and door sashes will be attached. To do this, the openings are equipped not only with corner, but also with reinforced racks.

Roof erection

Since the roof of the barn will be single-pitched, the rafter system is simple: rafter boards, the length of which, to ensure an overhang (usually 30-50 cm, it is made) must be greater than the length of the side of the area itself intended for the roof, are laid on the edge. For example, if the planned barn area is 3 m by 3 m, then the length of the rafter board should be 3.840 m.

Boards are nailed obliquely - two nails on both sides, so that the roof can more reliably withstand loads under snow pressure and in strong winds, it can be reinforced with metal corners.

It is necessary to mount a crate on the roof (suitable 100 * 25 mm). If the roof is planned to be covered with ondulin, then the optimal lathing step recommended by the manufacturer of this roofing material should be 40 cm.

The final step is to cover the roof with the selected material - ondulin, slate or others.

Note!

Completion of the barn

After the erection of walls and roofs, windows and doors are mounted in the prepared openings.

At the door, you can make a small porch, or just one or several small steps, depending on the height of the barn threshold.

The lining of the barn can be painted to match the roof, or if it is wooden, leave the natural color, which will look organic in the country, by drying it.

And the foundation, so that the building looks aesthetically pleasing and neat, is sewn up with an asbestos sheet.

Such a barn, if the site on which it is being built, has already been prepared, can be erected in just a couple of days. Built with your own hands and taking into account individual needs, it will turn out to be very comfortable and beautiful.

DIY barn photo

Arrangement of a summer cottage begins with a barn. The owners of the land allotment erect an outbuilding right away so that there is a place to store inventory, garden tools and other everyday trifles. Modern materials have greatly simplified the construction of country sheds with their own hands, ennobled them.

How to build a barn with your own hands, what materials to use? More on this below.

Barn in the country: when you can not do without it?

There are summer residents who build a barn "just in case", but their site remains uninhabited. Such situations are rare - usually country cottages are used as weekend homes or seasonal housing. In both cases, a barn is indispensable - garden furniture, lawn mowers, tree pruning tools, swings, decorative figures and other items are stored in it.

The pond or pool on the site should be periodically cleaned of silt, algae, sand, dirt. It is convenient to store inventory for cleaning pools in a barn. By the way, it can be built under the same roof with a bath or a recreation area near an artificial pond.

Sheds often store chopped wood for a fireplace or stove, hay for horses, animal feed and fertilizer for plants. Sheds in the summer cottage often replace the owner's workshop.

Samples of sheds in the country: photo

For the construction of country sheds, different materials are used:

 • plastic;
 • wood-polymer composite;
 • brick, foam block or gas block;
 • unedged board;
 • wooden beam;
 • corrugated board.

The aesthetic result largely depends on the material chosen by the summer resident.

plastic shed

Such sheds are sold as a set and assembled in a few hours - the scheme is included. Plastic structures are used to store garden tools, tools, irrigation hoses. Their advantage is a stylish design that fits perfectly into any landscape design.

There are also disadvantages. You can use plastic sheds only in the warm season - they are not suitable for late autumn and winter, as the material is deformed in the cold.

The second minus is the fragility of plastic, so you need to use the outbuilding carefully. You can not discount the high cost - not every summer resident can afford the acquisition.

Sheds from WPC

WPC is a wood-polymer composite, lightweight and durable material. It is used for arranging open terraces. Sheds and other auxiliary buildings made of WPC are delivered disassembled and assembled according to the same principle as plastic counterparts.

Stylish design and practicality are the two main advantages of WPC structures. If the summer resident takes care of ventilation, then the barn will serve him for decades. Hanging shelves and hooks for tools can be fixed on the inner walls.

brick buildings

Brick, foam or gas block sheds are capital buildings that have been built for decades. Their advantages are obvious:

 • They are not afraid of snow, rain, wind, frost and summer heat.
 • The interior space can be divided into zones.

The area of the barn is limited only by the requests of the owner of the summer cottage.

The construction of a brick object requires certain physical and financial costs, basic knowledge of arranging the foundation, laying walls and erecting a roof.

Shed from unedged boards

A wooden structure is a simple and economical solution. For its construction, it is not necessary to fill in the capital foundation, let it stand, and then build walls. You can build such a barn in 4-5 days. It does not look as impressive as plastic constructions, but the costs are many times less.

Shed from profiled sheet

A minimum of physical costs will also be required for the construction of a barn from a profile sheet. A frame is erected from a wooden beam or a metal corner, and then sheathed with a profile sheet.

We build a barn in the country with our own hands according to the drawings

Today, as an example, consider the construction of a frame country shed, built from a wooden beam and sheathed with a clapboard board. The drawing of the barn is shown below.

Foundation

The frame building is light in weight, so a low-depth tape base is enough for its construction. The width of the foundation should be 15 cm more than the thickness of the wall, and the foundation should be deepened by 40 cm.

When pouring the foundation, formwork is used - it can be removable and fixed. The tape is poured with concrete mortar - after the concrete has dried, waterproofing mastic must be applied to the outer parts of the foundation.

frame

For the construction of the frame, a wooden beam of the following section is required:

 • for the main vertical construction sites - 50x100 mm or 100x100 mm;
 • for connecting elements - 40x40 mm or 60x60 mm.

Below is a drawing of a barn with dimensions of 5000x2000x2000 mm. Vertical racks for the frame are installed at a distance of 1-1.5 meters from each other.

It is better to fasten the frame elements to each other with metal corners on self-tapping screws - this type of fastening is more reliable than nails. With the help of metal corners, the barn frame is also attached to the base - this is shown in the diagram below.

Before assembling the frame, you need to determine the places for window and door openings. It is important to remember the slope of the roof - for this, the front wall of the structure must be 20-30 cm higher than the back.

After assembling the frame, the timber is treated with special solutions that will protect the wood from ignition, decay, and swelling.

roof lathing

The distance between the bars for the crate depends on the roofing material used. For arranging a soft roof, a wooden beam is not suitable - you need solid sheets of plywood.

But flexible tiles are used in the construction of country sheds in isolated cases - more often the roof is equipped using corrugated board, slate or metal tiles.

All of the listed roofing materials have wide sheets that are attached directly to the crate. The beam is laid perpendicular to the slope at a distance of 50-60 cm.

The profile sheet and the metal tile are attached to the crate with self-tapping screws with rubber gaskets so as not to damage the polymer layer and not to spoil the decorative properties of the roofing material.

Frame sheathing

The frame can be sheathed from the inside and outside or only from the outside, using different materials for this. It is advisable to open a barn lined with wooden clapboard with a special varnish for wood.

Untreated, it looks faded. But if you open it with dark varnish, the effect will pleasantly surprise summer residents. Log cabins in Norway are often built from unedged boards. In Russia, they are gradually adopting this fashion and using this material for finishing the facades of private houses.

When the frame is ready and sheathed, the roof is mounted, you can install window frames and a door frame.

Construction of a shed for a summer residence on video

Summer residents are confused by the fact that the barn can spoil the impression of the site. There are two ways to solve the problem:

 • Allocate a place for the construction of a farm building in the back of the site behind the house so that it is not visible.
 • Ennoble the barn, turning it into a recreation area, landscaping with climbing plants.

To help summer residents - a video on how to build a lean-to shed in the country with your own hands:

And for inspiration - a few photos with ideas on how to ennoble a barn in a summer cottage.

Do-it-yourself shed for a summer residence is the easiest way to get the minimum required level of comfort in the shortest possible time. When the first joy of acquiring a site passes and it becomes a question of real development of the site, it is the utility block that is the first necessary building. While the residential building will only be built, it will serve as a place to store all the necessary equipment. And after the completion of the construction, the barn can both retain its original functions, performing the role pantry, and become a place to store firewood or, for example, chicken coop.

How to choose a barn for a summer residence: considering options

Often, the development of the site begins with the construction of a barn, so by this time it is necessary to already have a detailed plan-scheme, which will indicate the location of all planned buildings: a residential building, a bathhouse, a gazebo, garage, barn, etc.

Advice! Since the summer cottage usually does not have a large area, it is better to combine all outbuildings to save space - to build a barn that will combine the functions of a pantry, toilet and shower. This decision is especially justified at the initial stage of construction.

There are several approaches to choosing a place to build a barn, for example, near the border of the site, behind the house, in order to hide the hozblok from prying eyes. In addition to the house, additional camouflage to the barn can be provided using the plot. Another option is to place a barn near the house so that you do not have to run through the entire plot for every little thing. Very often, a place is allocated for a barn, which, for various reasons (shading, north side, poor soil), is the worst for planting trees or growing horticultural crops.

Consider some of the most popular options for sheds for summer cottages.

Ready container hozblok

The fastest and least labor-intensive option is to purchase a ready-made shed (change house) in the form of a ready-made prefabricated / collapsible utility block. This is a monoblock structure (usually of a container type), which is based on a rigid metal frame, which is sheathed with metal on the sides, and insulation is laid in the walls, electrical wiring has already been laid in it. There are many options - it can be either just a small storage shed or a multifunctional utility block, which includes a toilet, a shower room and even a place to relax, and some models have a removable canopy, which makes it possible to make a small veranda.

To install such a container hozblok, no foundation is required; a columnar foundation or simple concrete blocks will be enough. In a ready-made form (however, a minimal assembly of internal communications may be required, for example, connecting hoses to water collectors, which can be done independently), it is delivered to the site, a truck crane is required for installation. Outwardly, such a barn does not look very attractive, but due to its reliability, durability and mobility, such a utility block can be sold after the construction of a residential building is completed.

The shed is one of the most important and useful outbuildings. In this building, you can store all kinds of garden accessories, barbecue, garden and home care products, tools. With a strong desire, you can even equip a toilet and a summer shower in the barn.

With proper preparation, the construction of a barn will not take much time and money. There are several types of such outbuildings. Beginners are advised to give preference to frame structures - they are the easiest to build.

Instructions for arranging a frame barn will be given below. Read the guidelines and get started.

Choosing a place for a barn

When choosing a place for a barn, be guided by personal preferences. Some owners like it better when the barn is located in some corner of the site. Others are more comfortable when the barn is located next to the house.

It is most rational to build a barn in an area that is least suitable for growing garden and various kinds of crops. Almost anywhere you can find a place like this.

At the stage of choosing a place for arranging a barn, consider the location of other areas of the land, take into account the dimensions of the building being built and its external data. Try to make sure that the barn fits well into the surroundings and blends harmoniously with nearby buildings.

Foundation

Any building structure needs a reliable and durable foundation that can support its weight.

For arranging a barn, bases of a columnar, monolithic, tape and pile-screw type are suitable. The columnar foundation is suitable in most cases, so experts recommend giving preference to just such a design.

Mark out a site for arranging the foundation. Any suitable pegs, cord and tape measure will help you with this.

With a tape measure, measure the sides of the figure and its diagonals. The length of the elements must be the same.

Dig along the perimeter of the marked area, in the corners, as well as at the intersection points of the internal partitions of the pit 500-700 mm deep (sometimes deeper, depending on the level of soil freezing) for installation. The optimal spacing of the pillars is 1.2-1.5 m.

Arrange supports from asbestos pipes filled with reinforcement and concrete, or brick pillars - choose at your discretion.

Make sure that the pillars are evenly installed using a building level, fill the space around the pillars in the pits with a sand and gravel mixture for about 150 mm of the height of the recess, and fill in the remaining space.

Leave the foundation to gain strength for a few days.

Before backfilling and concreting, you can treat the support posts with special mastic. It will help improve the waterproofing of the base and extend its service life.

Start assembling the frame of the future barn. Pre-soak all wooden elements with an antiseptic. The best option is impregnation with color. It is simply more convenient to use such a tool - untreated places will be clearly visible.

Lay a support from a bar on a dried base. Select the dimensions of the timber in accordance with the dimensions of the barn being built.

Base - foundation and perimeter of timber

Lay the beam on the support posts, previously covered with waterproofing material (roofing material). Fasten the columns in any suitable way at your discretion.

Lay wooden boards 3-4 cm thick on the frame. At this stage of work, the main thing is to cut out the parts of the boards as carefully as possible near the vertical racks.

Fasten the boards to the floorboards "in the sweat".

When determining the required number of support posts, consider the presence of openings for installing double-glazed windows and doors, as well as the number of corners of the structure.

Set the bars strictly according to the building level. For leveling, use slope sticks. They will allow you to provide temporary fixation of the bars in the desired position. Use nails to temporarily hold the elements together. Hammer them in about half the length so that in the future there will be no difficulties with the dismantling of temporary supports.

Attach vertical support posts to the bottom trim of the frame. Fix with the help of corners, self-tapping screws, as well as pins coming out of the base.

The frame can also be built on brick supports. In this case, first, several rows of brickwork are arranged along the perimeter of the foundation, and after that, wooden vertical racks are installed on them.

Carry out the processing of the three inner sides of the vertical bar with an electric planer. From the sides directed towards the inside of the barn, chamfer. Without processing, leave only the sides that will later be sheathed with external boards.

Roofing and wall cladding

Attach the upper component of the barn frame to the exposed vertical support posts. Pre-prepare cuts in the beam according to the size of the racks. Fix the connections with corners and self-tapping screws.

Traditionally, sheds are equipped with roof structures. In this case, the length of the wooden posts on one side must exceed the length of the opposite supports.

Such placement will further contribute to the effective removal of sedimentary moisture from the roof surface.

Equip the roof structure from boards 4-5 cm thick. The length of the rafters should be approximately 50 cm longer than the length of the frame.

In places where the rafters join the beams, first make cuts. Lay the rafters on the frame and secure with self-tapping screws. The installation step of the rafters is 40-50 cm.

Treat the frame with an antiseptic. Attach the batten boards to the frame. Boards with dimensions of 2.5x15 cm are optimally suited.

The roof of the boards requires the mandatory arrangement of the layer. Traditionally, roofing material is used for moisture insulation. If you plan to install a more beautiful finish, equip the waterproofing with a plastic film.

Choose the finish of your choice. You can lay, profiled sheet, euro slate, etc.

Lining is suitable for cladding the walls of the building, you can also fix chipboard, boards and other similar materials. First, sheathe the front side of the shed, and then finish the cladding of the side and back walls. Fasten the boards without gaps.

If necessary, treat the outside of the boards with an electric planer. Usually, such processing is needed only when cladding walls with boards. Thanks to this, the material will become more attractive in appearance, and rain on a smooth surface lingers much less.

If desired, you can paint the walls of the barn. For painting such buildings, oil and water-based compositions are best suited.

Carry out the internal arrangement of the finished barn at your discretion. If the building is designed to store various kinds of tools and accessories, install convenient racks and shelves around the perimeter. Shelving allows you to make the most of the available space and easily access the things you need.

You can buy racks and shelves ready-made or you can make them yourself, for example, from boards, fiberboard, furniture remnants, etc.

This barn is ready. You just have to bring it to it, if necessary, and install the required devices.

Successful work!

Video - How to build a barn with your own hands

Each summer resident is well aware that one cannot do without a barn on the site. This building can become a storage place for garden tools or firewood, a small workshop, a chicken coop or rabbitry. Often the barn becomes the first structure that is built on a newly purchased site, but the hozblok can be built during or after its completion. In any case, it will be necessary to choose the material for the barn, and here a huge assortment awaits the summer resident: from the usual lightweight concrete blocks and boards to ready-made containers. We deal with the features of different materials, types of foundations and roofs and determine which barn to build in the country.

No. 1. We are looking for a place for a barn in the country

It is better to choose a place for a barn in advance at the planning stage of a summer cottage. On the diagram, it is necessary to indicate the location zones of the house, bathhouse, and other buildings in order to find the optimal place for the barn and understand how best to arrange all the structures relative to each other.

The barn is usually located:

No. 3. Barn Materials

Modern summer residents build sheds from anything: both completely traditional materials and improvised ones are used. Conditionally according to the material and construction technology, sheds can be divided into:

No. 4. Frame shed for a summer residence

Barn from foam blocks

Shed from gas blocks

No. 6. Finished container shed

If the terms for the construction of the utility block are critically short, then you can significantly simplify your life by buying finished barn. At the heart of such structures is a metal frame sheathed with metal with a layer of insulation. All necessary communications are laid in the insulation. Externally, such a barn looks like a container, and its equipment can be very different: from a small storage shed, then a full-fledged utility block with a toilet and even a place to relax and a canopy for. The most functional containers can be used as a small country house while the main one is being built.

As a rule, such structures are brought to the site already assembled - it remains only to connect all the necessary communications. These are durable structures, the arrangement of which requires a minimum of time. You only have to take care of the foundation, but a regular columnar or simple concrete slab will do. Such sheds are not cheap, they do not look very attractive, but due to the durability and strength, the structure can be sold if it is no longer needed.

No. 7. Prefabricated barns

Prefabricated sheds should be singled out in a separate group, despite the fact that they are actually a type of frame. They are based on the same technology, only the manufacturer simplifies the task of the summer resident so much that it turns the construction of a barn into a kind of assembly of a designer.

Prefabricated barns are produced on the basis of:

Initially, a frame is created, and prefabricated standard elements are attached to it. It is enough for a summer resident to follow the instructions and mount one element after another to get a full-fledged barn. Time costs are significantly reduced, and the need for insulation or external finishing is eliminated due to the design of the panels. SIP panels consist of two layers of wood boards, between which there is a layer of insulation - the same thing, but sheets of metal are located on the sides of the insulation. The cost of a finished prefabricated shed is higher than that of a frame or block shed, but the speed of construction and mobility are higher.

Separately, it is worth highlighting plastic sheds. Elements for their construction are made of composite plastic. It is impossible to call such buildings super-durable, but they cope with the tasks of storing garden tools, they look nice, they assemble quickly, they do not require a reinforced foundation. For keeping animals, this design is not suitable due to the lack of insulation.

No. 8. Foundation for the barn

No matter how easy the construction is, a barn is necessary in any case. If you save money or succumb to the persuasion of laziness, and miss this important stage in the construction of a barn in the country, then you can soon encounter rickety walls. Of course, a powerful labor-intensive foundation is not always necessary - it all depends on the material used in construction. As a rule, the following types of foundation are used:

No. 9. Arrangement of the roof of the barn in the country

The roof of the barn can be:

 • lean-to;
 • gable.

Other options (hipped, round, four-pitched) are very rare. Cheapest to set up pitched roof, so this is the most common option. Its advantage lies in the best natural, which is especially important if the barn is used for breeding animals. When arranging a shed roof, it is necessary to ensure that its slope is not towards the door, otherwise puddles will accumulate in front of the entrance during rain.

gable roof only better in appearance. Natural ventilation under it is worse, but it is possible to equip a hayloft under the roof. In any case, it is necessary to ensure a roof slope of at least 25 degrees.

For the arrangement of the roof of the barn, the following materials are usually used:

 • - the most budget option, and even after the construction or repair of other summer cottages, most summer residents have it. The material is durable, good strength, weather resistance, but requires a reliable crate and is unnecessarily fragile. Its low aesthetic properties in the construction of a barn are not so important;
 • - light inexpensive material, which also often remains after the roof of a country house or roofing material, it is also soft slate, weighs a little, looks good, is flexible, easy to install, but is flammable;
 • It has excellent aesthetic and operational qualities, but due to the high price it is rarely used for roofing sheds.

The external decor of the barn can be anything - if desired, the outbuilding can not only fit organically into, but also make it a highlight.
