Interior doors in the interior of the apartment solve two important tasks at once. Firstly, beautiful interior designs often become a wonderful decorative detail. Secondly, they act as a functional element: they divide the space into zones and provide sound insulation. On the modern market there is a huge number of interior doors of different colors, modifications, styles, strength, materials. In this article we will tell you how to choose the right interior doors for your apartment and not miscalculate.

Types of interior structures in the interior of the apartment

Paneled doors

Paneled interior doors in the interior of the apartment look very stylish. The panel structure is a wooden frame with vertical and horizontal guides, the space between which is filled with panels - wooden, glass inserts (these elements are also made of MDF and other materials). Panels are the main distinguishing feature of such structures.

Interior panel doors have a number of advantages:

  • wear resistance;
  • resistance to deformation;
  • a good solution for any interior, both apartments and houses.

Among shortcomings can be distinguished:

  • massive heavy frame;
  • the price is above average (this is due to the fact that natural materials are used in the manufacture).

Tsargovye doors

In the manufacture of the side door, two vertical beams are used, and the space between them is filled with transverse identical elements (side rails). These elements form the basis of door structures.

Today, tsargovye interior doors in the interior of an apartment are a fairly common solution. Such designs are presented in different versions. Drawers are made from wood of various species, metal or glass.

Interior tsargovye door structures for the interior of an apartment or house are a worthy choice, because they:

  • have increased wear resistance;
  • look presentable;
  • are durable and have a long service life.

Concerning shortcomings, here you can note a lot of weight (if these are wooden or glass doors). Because of this, the installation process may become more complicated, but this minus does not affect the quality of operation.

Panel doors

Many owners of apartments or houses in Moscow, equipping the interior, choose interior panel structures: deaf or carved.

Solid panel doors consist of a wooden frame and external MDF sheets. The cavity formed inside is stuffed with MDF or pressed cardboard filler. To make panel interior doors look beautiful in the interior of the apartment, their surface is laminated, veneered or covered with PVC.

Carved interior doors are a more refined version of panel structures. Their distinguishing feature is the presence of a glass or plastic insert in a solid MDF board. To make a carved insert, an opening is made in the door leaf for a specific figure. Then it is filled with a panel and fixed with a baguette.

Advantages panel interior structures:

  • low cost (economy segment);
  • presentable appearance - panel interior doors in the interior of the apartment always look great and fit into any style;
  • due to the use of a frame made of wood and cardboard filler, the design weighs little;
  • despite the low price, panel doors are of high quality and functional.

Flaw they have one: the need for special care. Any wooden or glass door must be carefully looked after, using special polishing agents.

Coordination of work

Molded doors

They have a bright distinctive feature, since they are a single monolithic canvas of one material. Classic molded doors are made of solid wood, while modern ones are made of plastic or glass.

Molded interior doors are the same from top to bottom. If the design is visually divided into 5 or more parts, then they will all be the same.

Advantages molded interior structures in the interior of the apartment are:

  • unusual and attractive design;
  • ease of care (to maintain their appearance in excellent condition, it is enough to use special detergents and polishes);
  • strength (plastic or glass doors are made of several layers of material alternating with a film);
  • any pattern can be applied to the surface of such structures.

Disadvantages:

  • complex installation (installation must be carried out by a professional);
  • a lot of weight, since a solid material is used for the door (glass in several layers - triplex - or natural wood).

Glass doors

For their manufacture, triplex or duplex glass is used. Interior doors of this type fit perfectly into any interior. You can give preference to transparent, matte, colored (plain or patterned) doors. At the same time, their design is very diverse.

Due to the fact that glass doors let in a lot of light, they are often installed in catering establishments or office premises.

Glass interior doors have a number of advantages:

  • doors are presented in different models and colors, which allows you to choose the option that best suits the interior of your room;
  • glass doors are very durable, because tempered glass or triplex technology is used in their manufacture;
  • Glass doors are great for letting in light.

Flaw glass structures - fragility. A strong impact can damage the door. But if it is made using the latest technologies, it will not crumble even from severe damage - only cracks or dents form on the canvas.

Dimensions and shape of interior structures in the interior of the apartment

Even if you want to repair or replace the door leafs in an apartment where the size of all openings is standard, it is still worth making accurate measurements in advance. After all, the manufacture of a custom-made door not only requires additional costs, but also somewhat delays the repair process.

As a rule, the doorway has a standard width of 60, 70, 80 and 90 cm. It all depends on the room. As for the height, there are no standard sizes. Until recently, there were almost no ready-made structures with a height of more than 2 meters on sale. However, today door leafs with a height of 2.1 or 2.2 meters are quite common.

Designers advise installing door structures with a non-standard height of more than 2 meters if you want to visually raise the ceiling in the room. But remember that the standard opening must first be expanded. Not every owner likes this prospect, because it is additional labor costs and financial investments. You decide what to do: choose a design for an existing building or customize a doorway to your favorite model.

Most people prefer standard models. The reason is simple: traditional interior doors are cheaper than custom-made door panels. In addition, immediately after purchase, they can be installed in your apartment or house, again, unlike individual designs - their manufacture takes time. However, custom-made interior doors in the interior of the apartment always look great and harmoniously fit your style of the room. This is their absolute plus.

Types of opening interior structures in the interior of the apartment

Interior doors can be opened in a variety of ways. Everything is determined by the design and method of fastening. Interior doors are hinged, sliding, folding and swinging. They are attached in their own way and have varying degrees of sound insulation. Consider each type of interior design in more detail.

  1. Swing doors.
  2. Familiar to all classical doors. Their canvas is fixed in the doorway on hinges on one side, and on the other hand, a handle with a lock is installed. On the door frame of the hinged model there is a threshold for sound insulation.

    To close the structure, it is latched onto the lock. If greater tightness is needed, then a silicone seal is laid around the entire perimeter of the web.

    Despite the fact that the door market is crowded today and completely different options for every taste and budget are presented in abundance, Russians often prefer single-leaf and double-leaf swing interior models. They are simple and traditionally arranged, and it is easy to open them. Another added benefit is ease of installation.

    Due to the affordable price, such models are very popular among our compatriots. They are chosen for the interior of both standard apartments and private houses according to individual projects.

    The most common type of door models in apartments is single-leaf swing structures, which, perhaps, fit any interior. But double-leaf doors are very much in demand today. A wide doorway has a number of advantages. It gives a feeling of spaciousness, thanks to which corridors and other auxiliary rooms are better illuminated. In addition, large-sized furniture can be carried through wide doors, which is very convenient.

    However, double-leaf interior doors in the interior of the apartment also have disadvantages. The area of the room should be large enough so that a person can easily open two doors at once. Furniture cannot be placed next to the door structure, which causes inconvenience to owners of small apartments.

  3. Sliding doors.
  4. Sliding interior doors in the interior of the apartment - a good solution. If the apartment is compact, then thanks to them you can save precious centimeters of space.

    Sliding interior doors are installed along the wall. The design moves along it due to the wheels. Often, sliding doors are used for zoning a studio apartment or office. Door models of this type are very common today in the arrangement of modern interiors.

  5. Folding doors.
  6. Folding door structures are an accordion of several identical canvases on hinges or hinges. When the door is opened, the canvases turn on hinges and fold. Such designs can often be found in clinics, outpatient facilities, rarely in apartments. Folding doors are also often placed in dachas, in cottages. To make the sliding structure easy to open, in the manufacture, glass or plywood inserts are added to the canvas to reduce weight.

  7. Swinging doors.
  8. Very often in public places they put swinging interior doors. They are either opened in or pushed out. In both cases, they open easily.

    As a rule, swing doors are installed in hospitals, waiting rooms at airports, and train stations. They are also very popular in country style cafes and pubs.

Sliding interior doors in the interior of the apartment

Consider sliding interior designs in more detail. In Asian countries, they have been common for a very long time, but for Europe this is a relatively new phenomenon, which, nevertheless, due to its functionality, has gained rapid distribution.

There are several types of interior sliding models:

  • Sliding. Such doors move on wheels along a guide fixed to the wall. The structure is displaced along the wall, and the passage remains open (another option is to build the guide into the wall so that the canvas goes into it).

  • Coupe. The design resembles a closet, which saves space, as the canvases, opening up, overlap each other.

  • Folding. The "accordion" of the folding door takes up a minimum of space. As a rule, it is used to separate the bedroom from the living room or dressing room. The canvas includes narrow strips connected by loops. On wheels, they move along the guide. In the open position, the strips are folded, in the closed position they straighten out.

An important point: if you are going to install sliding interior doors, remember that they all provide a low level of sound insulation. If this moment is important for you, for example, it is necessary to separate the children's room from the bedroom, then it is better to give preference to traditional swing doors. In addition, the cost of sliding structures is higher than standard ones.

For the manufacture of sliding models, different materials are used: wood with glass ceilings, fiberboard, chipboard, plastic, and so on. Their standard size is as follows: height 2 m 5 cm, width from 0.6 to 1 m, thickness from 4 cm.

Very often, sliding interior doors are made of glass with or without frames. In the latter case, the structure is fixed on the rollers of only the upper guide profile. Usually tempered glass is used here. It weighs, of course, a lot, especially if its thickness is more than 8 mm.

Despite the apparent fragility, the models are very popular.

Sliding structures must have reliable fittings.

What material are modern interior doors made of?

Various materials are used today for the manufacture of interior structures.

  1. PVC. Caring for such models is very simple. In addition, they have a low price. The main advantage of such structures is moisture resistance. But, alas, plastic quickly loses its presentable appearance, the color becomes more cloudy, which, of course, spoils the overall impression. That is why plastic interior doors in the interior of the apartment are almost never used. They are often installed in offices and warehouses.
  2. Fiberboard. Wood fiber boards are almost harmless to health. During production, they are given an attractive appearance with the help of dyes, which allows consumers to choose the appropriate option for an apartment or house. Usually, doors of standard shapes are made from wood fiber.

    The strength of fiberboard, of course, is lower than that of wood. But doors made of this material are cheaper than wooden ones.

  3. MDF. Various modifications of structures are made from it, with and without carved decorations. The surface of MDF is often laminated, covered with natural or artificial veneer. Today, MFD interior doors are the best option for apartment interiors in terms of price and quality ratio. Such doors are moisture resistant, do not deform and have a long service life.
  4. An array of wood. It is considered a traditional material for the manufacture of structures. Interior doors made of solid wood are highly durable and are made in different design options. Among the shortcomings, low moisture resistance can be noted, and therefore, if you install interior doors made of solid wood in a room with high humidity, they must additionally be coated with moisture-resistant varnish.

    Doors made of budget types of wood (for example, pine) are covered on top with veneer of more expensive species. They do this to increase strength and improve design.

  5. Glass. Interior doors made of glass, often with a pattern, made using the latest technologies, are very common in modern apartment interiors.

    Glass is moisture resistant, which allows it to be used in bathrooms. There are a lot of design options: interior doors with a mirror, matte surface, patterns and stained-glass windows are on the market.

If you want to create a high-tech interior, try to use simple geometric elements, matte and chrome surfaces. The situation in this design should be complemented by discreet interior doors with a minimalist finish. Designs for such an interior can be made using plastic or aluminum.

Such a door makes the decoration of the apartment more modern. Also, glass or metal interior structures are perfect for high-tech design.

The techno style is also popular today, in the interior of which strict and concise interior doors are appropriate, for example, deaf ones with straight lines without any decorative elements. The perfect solution for lovers of minimalism and rigor.

The color of interior structures in the interior of the apartment

The choice of color scheme for interior structures should be approached very responsibly, since they are installed not for a couple of years, but for a long time (subject to proper operation). When choosing a color, decide on your wishes - do you want the doors to be a bright accent and stand out from the general background, or do you like it better when they merge with other finishes?

In the interior of apartments and houses, you can often see that interior doors match the color of the floor. Usually these are all kinds of shades of natural wood, perfectly combined with different style solutions. Remember that a 100% color match is not required. It is considered normal if the floor is 2-3 tones darker or lighter than the door.

In rooms designed in monochrome colors, door structures are installed, the color of which matches the shade of the walls. The floor in this case can be the same or a contrasting color. For example, white doors in combination with a dark floor look very harmonious. This is a good base for a modern or Scandinavian style interior.

Today, non-standard materials are often used in interiors, for example, mirror, plastic, metal, glass. The color of the doors can be any.

In a monochrome interior, gray doors combined with gray walls of the same shade, lighter ceilings and dark floors visually stretch the room. In addition, furniture, textiles and various decorative elements look great against such a background.

Of course, the interior of an apartment or house, where interior doors made of natural wood or veneer are installed, looks presentable and expensive. Interior doors made of bleached oak are a costly purchase. But if you want to save money, you may well choose doors made of veneered oak plates or imitation material.

In recent years, furniture made of wenge wood (African rosewood) has become widespread among designers. The cost of this material is quite high, but it is fully justified. Wenge furniture looks great, and the material itself has an interesting texture and has many different shades.

Wenge interior doors fit perfectly into the interior of a house or apartment. However, as already mentioned, this material is expensive and difficult to find. You have an alternative: purchase doors made of materials that imitate wenge. In appearance, they do not lose the original at all, but cost much less.

For interiors in the country direction, as well as classic and antique styles, light shades are well suited: white, beige, sand, pastel. Light interior doors in the interior of the apartment (photo below) visually expand the space if they match the color of the adjacent wall.

Very often, the color of door structures is matched to the color of furniture. Designers often use this technique when creating a modern interior, wanting to emphasize. For example, the interior of a room designed in white can be supplemented with a red sofa and a red door. The room will play in a completely new way, it will become more lively and interesting.

Interior doors in the dining room can be matched to the color of the kitchen set. So, the interior of a Provence-style room with classic elements will be well complemented by a purple door and furniture in light lavender colors.

Black interior doors in the interior of the apartment are more difficult to use, but still possible. They are great for baroque or art deco trends. Dark walls and doors are an excellent backdrop for light-colored furniture and decor items, emphasizing the luxury and individuality of the design.

Are white interior doors appropriate in the interior of the apartment

White interior doors in the interior of the apartment always look simple and elegant at the same time. This is a versatile and stylish solution.

Don't worry about white interior doors for an apartment being an outdated option. Today on the market there are a lot of original and very beautiful options for interior white designs.

Do not be afraid that stains will remain on the white doors. Just install glossy models, practical and easy to clean.

Consider what advantages white interior doors have in the interior of an apartment.

White is a clear favorite of many famous designers. Despite the fact that during the first ten years of the 21st century, doors of dark tones, light beige and natural wood colors dominated the interiors, the fashion trends of yesteryear inevitably return. White is back at the peak of popularity. The widest range of white interior designs presented today is able to please even the most demanding customer.

  • White is a universal color suitable for any style.

  • White doors are a universal solution for any room. This is a great addition to the interior of living rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, nurseries, corridors. White front doors also look very presentable.

When installing entrance structures, be sure to take care of your own safety. Today, the market offers a wide range of armored, reinforced, steel models with reliable locks and locks.

  • White doors are an addition to any interior. If the design is light and airy, with glazing, it will fit well into a carefully furnished room where, for example, wenge color prevails. The dense panel construction suits a Scandinavian-style bedroom, while a glazed folding door adds chic to a classic living room.

  • White doors are a great way to visually expand a space. A glazed structure with a vertical insert will visually make the ceiling higher. With the help of a door with horizontal stripes, you can widen a narrow opening. An all-white model is suitable for a small-sized room.

How to choose interior doors for a particular interior

Today, everyone has the opportunity to find and choose a door leaf and fittings in any design and in any price category. If you want to keep the interior of your apartment in a style, such as a loft or high-tech, you can easily find the right doors.

Interior doors made of natural materials are selected for the interior of apartments in eco-style, for example:

  • wood;
  • vines;
  • plywood;
  • glass.

Wooden doors for eco-interiors do not paint, but emphasize the existing natural beauty. The surface is not processed, leaving a little rough.

In an eco-style apartment, transparent glass doors with sandblasted plant motifs are often installed. Glass is also a natural environmentally friendly material, absolutely practical and safe. It adds a touch of airiness to the interior and visually increases the area of the room.

Depending on the size and design of the room, choose the tone of the door panels. Light interior doors in minimalist, provence, country, classic style interiors will look more advantageous than dark ones, especially if the apartment is not large. In high-tech and modern interiors, dark interior doors in rich tones will help emphasize style.

Tip: The color of the door panels can be matched to match the walls, furniture or floor, as well as be a contrast - this technique is often used in modern styles.

Materials for the manufacture of interior doors

In the interior of an apartment, interior doors play an important role: they not only make it possible to separate rooms from each other, but also affect the overall impression of the living space, can make its perception holistic - or, conversely, nullify the most interesting design idea, if you choose them wrong.

The choice should be made taking into account the style of the apartment, operating conditions, design, as well as how soon it is planned to replace them. And this largely depends on the material from which they are made. The best materials for this purpose will be natural - their service life is longer than that of artificial counterparts, and the aesthetic indicators are higher. However, the price is higher, which plays a decisive role in the choice.

Modern interior doors in the interior of an apartment are most often made of the following materials:

  • PVC. Interior doors made of plastic are easy to maintain and budget price. Their main advantage is moisture resistance. Unfortunately, plastic quickly loses its appearance, the doors become cloudy, and this can ruin any interior. Usually used in offices, warehouses.
  • Fiberboard. Wood fiber boards are practically safe for health. In the production process, they are ennobled, treated with dyes. As a rule, canvases of simple shapes are made from this material. Of course, the strength of such products is much lower than wooden ones, but the price is also lower.
  • MDF. The material allows you to make canvases of complex shape, with carved decor. From above it can be laminated, covered with artificial or natural veneer. In terms of price-quality ratio, this is the most attractive option. Interior doors made of MDF are resistant to moisture, deformation, and will last a long time.
  • Array. Natural wood is a traditional door leaf material. The product is durable, easy to get off, you can use various design options. The disadvantage is that it absorbs moisture, therefore, when used in wet rooms, additional finishing is necessary - coating with a moisture-resistant varnish. Cloths made from budget woods, such as pine, are covered with expensive veneer on top - this improves their performance and aesthetic qualities.
  • Glass. Modern style in interior design dictates the use of modern materials. Glass door leaves are welcome, on which a pattern can be applied. The material does not deteriorate from moisture, which allows it to be used in bathrooms. Design options are very wide: it can be a mirror surface, stained glass, matting - full or partial, in the form of a pattern.

The color of interior doors in the interior of the apartment

Classical interior design involves matching the color of interior doors with the color of the floor. As a rule, these are various shades of natural wood, which go well with various styles of interior design. At the same time, the tone of the wood does not have to match at all: the floor can be two or three tones darker or lighter than the door leaf.

In monochromatic interiors, interior doors are used that blend in color with the walls, while the floors can be of the same tone, or they can be contrasting. For example, white interior doors can be paired with a dark floor to create a base for a modern or Scandinavian interior. Modern interiors involve the use of non-standard materials, such as mirror, metal, glass, plastic - and in this case, the color of the door leaf can be very different.

In a monochromatic interior, gray interior doors combined with gray walls of the same tone, lighter ceilings and darker floors will create the illusion of high ceilings and serve as a great backdrop for displaying furniture, textiles and decorative accents.

However, interiors are considered the most stylish and expensive, in which natural wood or its veneer is used as a material for interior doors. For example, an interior with “bleached oak” interior doors will require significant financial investments, but a door veneered with oak plates or their imitation is more affordable.

Recently, furniture made of wenge wood, or African rosewood, has gained particular popularity among designers. This is a very beautiful and very expensive material, which has an interesting texture and various shades. Wenge interior doors in the interior look very stylish, but the material is rare and expensive, unlike various imitations, which are quite affordable and are not inferior to the original in expressiveness.

Sliding interior doors

Most often there is a hinged door design - a door leaf is inserted into the door frame. This is a simple, classic, time-tested option. There are several varieties of it:

  • Classic. They can have one or two wings, swing open in one direction.
  • Saloon. There is no porch, they can swing open on both sides.

Another type of interior doors is sliding. In Asia, they have been known for a long time, they came to Europe relatively recently, but quickly gained popularity, as they allow solving a lot of interior problems. There are several types of sliding doors:

  • Sliding . The canvas is attached to the guide, equipped with rollers, which is attached to the wall. The door leaf moves along the wall, freeing the passage. Option - the guide is built into the wall, so the door "goes" into the wall.
  • Coupe. The design of the doors resembles a closet. This allows you to save space by overlapping the canvases on top of each other when opening.

  • Rotating . Roto-doors, when opened, stand “across” the doorway, which saves space in narrow aisles.
  • Folding . The "accordion" of the folding door practically does not take up space. Most often used to separate the bedroom from the living room or dressing room. The canvas consists of narrow strips fastened with loops, which move on rollers along the guide, folding in the open position and straightening out in the closed position.

Important: All sliding doors have a common feature: low sound insulation. If this point is significant, for example, the parents' bedroom needs to be separated from the children's room, it is better to use traditional swing doors. In addition, sliding options will cost more.

Interior doors with glass

Glass inserts allow not only to diversify the design, but also to let daylight into rooms that it cannot get into otherwise. For example, a door with such an insert installed between the kitchen and a windowless corridor will make the corridor brighter during the daytime.

Glass for such inserts must be tempered to ensure safe operation: in the event that it is accidentally broken, small fragments are formed, which are difficult to cut. The glass itself can be:

  • Transparent, smooth or patterned;
  • Matt;
  • Combined (transparent with a matte pattern);
  • stained glass.

Options for using interior doors of various types are presented below.

Photo 2. Contrasting door leaves with glass inserts emphasize the geometric interior design.

Photo 3. The door leaf is in harmony with the color of the furniture.

Photo 4. The glass sheet is enclosed in a contrasting color frame and emphasizes the modernity of the interior.

The choice of entrance and interior doors in an apartment implies a completely different approach to operation. The entrance, most often metal, firstly ensures the inviolability of the housing itself, and secondly, it prevents the flow of cold air, dust, noise and odors from the landing or street. Interroom, in addition to zoning space, provide comfortable living and are an interior decoration. Therefore, choosing entrance doors for interior doors is a difficult but quite doable task.

All doors in the same style

Ideally, if, according to the plan, the interior and front doors are part of the same design solution and style, then it is advisable to select them with the same decorative finish. This can be safely attributed to the color, texture of the coating, the pattern on the panel of the canvas. But usually, they install the front door in the first place, and the interior doors in the last stage of repair. To do this, before choosing and buying, check with the manager for the possibility of installing a panel on a metal door, which will be an exact copy of your interior paintings.

Your ideas in the package

How many people, so many opinions, many of our customers opt for contrast. They choose white interior doors, and the entrance is dark in color but with the same pattern. The resulting contrast enlivens the interior and adds a twist to creativity. Often in a house or apartment, the doors are at a distance and do not overlap with each other, or the interior of the hallway differs significantly from other rooms in design. In this case, our company provides you with a complete catalog of decorative panels for the interior of a metal door. Any color and choice of pattern, decorative decoration of the opening - a capital, instead of glass (as on the interior), install a mirror and many other design options.

It is not easy to choose interior doors in the interior that would look like a work of art. But with the help of our article, it is really possible to change your design beyond recognition with the help of such, at first glance, an insignificant element of arrangement.

You need to consider everything: what materials the door is made of, how they fit together, how the opening mechanism works, how everything fits into the design of the apartment.

  • The level of resistance to mechanical damage. If there are small children or active pets in the house, the higher the better. If only adults with good coordination live in the house, you can hardly think about it.
  • Moisture resistance level. If you live in a humid climate, the higher the better, otherwise the door will either rot or swell. If the climate is dry, this indicator is not so important.
  • Noise resistance level. If you have a small child, a spouse who likes to listen to loud music, or you are generally sensitive to sound pollution, the higher the better. If the house is quiet, or you are not bothered by noise, you can save on this indicator.
  • Security level. If there is a child in the house, glass inserts and sharp corners are banned, as are too heavy materials. But if everyone living in the apartment, adults and children are not expected, this is not so important.

Of course, the overall quality, appearance, and how well the door fits into the rest of the interior are taken into account. The choice is complex and requires delving into the nuances.

materials

Interior door materials are used, as a rule, in combinations, although you can also find a solid array. Each of them differs from the rest in properties and price.

Wood

However, there are also disadvantages:

Everything is simpler with the frame - cheap wood species are used for it, it does not weigh as much as a solid array, and does not face the harmful effects of the external environment. In fact, of the advantages it has reliability and low price, and it has no disadvantages.

artificial materials

Artificial materials are used much more widely than natural wood, as they are easier to process and cost less. They can be divided into two large groups - those used for the frame and those used for coating. The first ones include:

Chipboard. They are made from shavings and sawdust, compressed using synthetic resins. It does not lend itself to complex processing, it is characterized by relative fragility - a piece will fall off from a chipboard plate from a strong blow or a crack will open. It can be dangerous to health if the manufacturer was dishonest. But - cheap, resistant to moisture and temperature changes, poorly transmits sounds.

PVC(PVC). A thin polymer film that is glued to a chipboard or MDF base. It does not have any sound insulation and eventually begins to peel off from the base, plus it initially looks cheap. But it is resistant to moisture and biological threats, is not afraid of temperature changes, does not fade or crack. It exists in a variety of design solutions - plastic is given any color. It is very easy to replace it if it is damaged.

Veneer. It is made from a thin layer of natural wood treated for durability. It looks like natural wood, if varnished, it becomes insensitive to moisture. Easily restored, has an average level of sound insulation. Not suitable for covering doors with a complex texture, does not differ in a variety of shades.

Each veneer sheet is as unique as each piece of wood.

Advice

Artificial materials are cheap and so good. But when buying the cheapest of them, do it carefully, use the services of only trusted sellers so as not to purchase poor-quality, unhealthy material.

Glass

Interior doors can be either all glass or include glass inserts. This material has several advantages:

  • Aesthetics. Glass can be solid, it can be stained glass, it can be frosted or transparent - and it always looks aesthetically pleasing. It will fit into a classic interior after some effort, but is well suited for high-tech style or vintage antique interior.
  • Sustainability. Glass does not suffer from temperature changes or humidity changes. Insensitive to biological threats and does not burn.
  • Security. Thanks to special processing, glass, although it remains fragile, nevertheless does not pose a danger to humans. If you hit it, it will either crack or crumble into large fragments without sharp edges that can be easily removed.
  • throughput. Light penetrates easily through glass. If you want to make the room visually spacious and bright, a glass door will do.
  • Ease of care. You can use any detergent, but often just a wet rag and a bucket of water are enough.

But there are also disadvantages:

  • Fragility. Yes, the glass is safe and it will not cut itself. But it will still crumble if you hit it. It is better not to install it in an apartment where a small child or an active dog constantly lives.
  • throughput. If the glass is transparent, you can see everything through it. But even if it is matte, you can guess vague silhouettes through it. If you like privacy, it's better to think about other material.
  • Price. A full glass door costs comparable to solid wood.

Types of doors by combination of materials

A solid door made of glass or wood is beautiful, but more often sheets of chipboard, MDF and other materials are used, fixed to the frame in various ways. How this is done depends on the name of the particular group.

Shield

From the side, panel boards look like solid wood, but are somewhat more complicated. Their design includes:

  • the frame, as a rule, is made of light and cheap pine;
  • insulating material poured into the voids of the frame - it can be anything from banal mounting foam to expensive heaters;
  • covering sheets, due to which the door looks solid.

All characteristics of a panel door depend on what materials were used in the manufacture.

But usually remain unchanged:

  • ease, which allows you to bring the door even to the ninth floor and put it on simple hinges without additional effort;
  • simplicity of appearance, which can be varied with accessories, a pattern or an intricate stained glass insert;
  • a price that allows you to install panel doors throughout the apartment without special costs.

If you purchase good insulation, the door will retain heat well and will not let in unnecessary sounds. If you cover it with plastic, it will be insensitive to moisture.

This is the most versatile version, which opens up possibilities for a variety of finishes. From the banal “glue a piece of photo wallpaper on the door” to more interesting hand-painted, wood carved or stained glass inserts.

The result is a door that has a certain shape, which the panel, with its smooth surface, lacks in principle. The pattern formed by the panels makes it much more interesting and aesthetic.

It has several main properties:

  • reliability - the design of the panels is such that they are more resistant to deformation than a frame covered from above with simple coating sheets;
  • design versatility - panels can be made from all coatings, as well as from glass, which allows you to make a specific door for a specific house unlike all the others, you can even make it to order.

However, a panel door has a drawback - it muffles the sound worse than a panel door, since the junction of the panel with the frame remains relatively thin.

Tsargovye

The design of the tsargovy doors includes:

  • frame, which is simply a wooden rectangular frame;
  • horizontal slats of coating or glass, laid in a frame.

The design of such a door looks minimalistic and it has its own chic. The properties of the royal door are as follows:

  • reliability - it is very resistant to deformations, like most structures made of a large number of elements;
  • variety of design - no one will stop you from making horizontal slats from any material and painting them in any color (bright ones are suitable for a nursery).

There is also a minus - heaviness. As a rule, tsargovye elements are heavier than shield elements with paneled ones, especially if the structure contains solid wood or glass. This complicates the installation, additional hinges may be required, but does not affect the operation itself.

Molded

Molded doors differ from the rest by the obligatory presence of glass in the design. If you can supplement the paneled and tsargovye with glass as you wish, then for molded ones it is implied by default. The design includes:

  • a frame in which two wooden vertical blocks stand out;
  • glass insert, which is located between the blocks.

Molded doors are heavy, but strong and beautiful. Their design is considered the most original of the existing ones, especially since glass can be given a very different appearance.

It can be:

  • mirror, then everyone passing by will be reflected in it;
  • transparent, then through it it will be possible to look into the room;
  • matte, then everything on the other side will seem to be immersed in a haze;
  • colored, then everything will seem bright and festive, especially if you choose a warm optimistic shade;
  • stained glass, then it will be possible to make the insert patterned.

Lifting the molded structure, installing it requires a lot of effort. But the result is worth it if it fits into the rest of the interior.

solid array

The most expensive, most luxurious variety, which is not suitable for every home.

A solid array looks the most noble, but is expensive. It often makes sense to buy a simpler door, perhaps veneered. It will look like a tree, but there will be much less difficulties with it.

Design features

The materials, how they fit together - this is the main part of the installation difficulties, as well as the cost. But there is another aspect that is no less important - this is the mechanism by which the door opens. It should be not only reliable, durable, not causing difficulties, but also suitable for the entire interior, coupled with the features of the premises. There are four main types of mechanisms.

Swing

The swing type is the most common - most of the doors in general that you met in your life belonged to him. The device is simple - a door is hung on two loops that are attached to the jamb, which then opens easily. It can be equipped with a handle, a latch, even a peephole or a cat door - any accessory you may need will look in its place.

At the same time, it is important to remember that a swinging door that is too heavy - for example, if you want to install a solid array of glass - requires additional hinges, which must be agreed with the master in advance. He will do the calculation himself.

Available in four types:

  • Ordinary. This is a classic that only opens one way and takes up a decent amount of space. When buying it, you need to have a good idea of the size of the room and choose a door that will open in the freest direction.
  • Bivalves. For an ordinary apartment - a rare option, because it takes up an unreasonably large amount of space. It duplicates an ordinary door, only there are not one leaf, but two. It will look good only in a very large room, when moving from the corridor to the dining room, for example. It makes sense to buy a double-leaf type only if you have a private house and there is a lot of space in it.
  • rocking. Relatively inconvenient and take up even more space than usual. They open immediately in both directions, depending on where the one who wants to push will go. They are rarely used in residential buildings because they do not provide good tightness - not only people easily pass through them, but drafts, noise and heat. However, there are lovers. If you have a loft or high-tech apartment, a swinging “pendulum” may suit your style.
  • stables. If you ask about associations from those who hear about them for the first time, the answer is usually the same - a saloon in the Wild West. The door is divided into two independent halves, most often horizontally. They may not open at the same time. It looks original, but fits into a rare interior. Practically useful only in cases where there is someone in the apartment who needs to be prevented from leaving the room, but at the same time be able to watch him - it can be an overly active dog, a small child, a person with disabilities.

Swing doors require almost a meter of free space to open. For a small apartment, this is often too much and inconvenient, especially in narrow corridors.

Advice

If your interior calls for classics or you have a lot of space, a swing door is the most obvious choice that will surprise no one.

Sliding

Sliding doors, also known as "compartments", are used in small city apartments, as they can significantly save space. Well suited for a minimalist style, for an accentuated modern interior, or for trying to recreate traditional Japanese style in your apartment.

Sliding - also called "coupe"

Equipped with guides along which the canvas moves in both directions from the passage. Recently, a new development has come into fashion - there can be one guide, the top one - this allows you not to break the floor with a threshold. Such doors, however, often seem unreliable.

These doors have advantages:

  • . This is the most obvious. Instead of allocating a meter for opening, you can limit yourself to leaving a few centimeters along each wall near the jambs and quietly move the door.
  • Aesthetics. Most of the doors in the world are hinged, so sliding ones look especially original. With their help, you can make the room visually more spacious and lighter, give it a touch of a minimalist Japanese interior.
  • Security. Opening the swing type unexpectedly for the person standing behind it, you can cause serious injury to him. This is also the danger of children's games in which someone is hiding, and someone is looking for. The sliding type is devoid of such a flaw - even if you sharply move the canvas away, it will not cause significant harm.

However, there are specific disadvantages that swing-type owners will not face:

  • Possible problems with the mechanism. If you handle the canvas carelessly, it can come off the guides or even deform them. You will either have to figure out how to fix it yourself, or call the master.
  • Insulation problems. The specificity of the sliding type is such that it cannot be securely fixed to the closed position. Handles and locks are not provided, moreover, there will always be a thin gap through which sounds and heat will penetrate.
  • Wall problems. That part of the wall that will be hidden behind the canvas becomes unsuitable for placing something on it. Any accessories on it will not linger, so you should immediately take this into account.

There is a subspecies of sliding doors - these are "pencil cases".

They differ from the "coupe" in that they have only one sash. It does not slide along the wall, but retracts into a special groove that is built into the wall. Even less space is spent, the result looks even more aesthetic.

Sliding type does not use heavy materials. A solid array of wood or glass will not be able to slide freely along the guides, therefore, either panel or other frame options are used.

Advice

An interesting solution would be to order a frame, the gaps in which will be filled not with the usual coatings, but with special thick paper. There will be almost no soundproofing, but references to the Japanese style will become quite obvious.

folding

Folding doors, they are also "accordions" were and remain the most decorative of the existing types. They are a canvas, divided into several parts, connected by special hinges. When someone needs to pass through the opening, the canvas is folded, pressed against the jambs, resembling a neat screen.

It has specific advantages:

  • Aesthetics. The folding type looks original, interesting, especially if you complement it with patterns, carvings, and beautiful accessories.
  • . The folded canvas takes certainly less than a meter, which is important for small apartments.

But there are also disadvantages:

  • Possible unreliability of the mechanism. With prolonged active use, the hinges can wear out in a few years, their condition must be monitored, they must be lubricated. Moreover, if the canvas is pulled hard or run into it at high speed, it can easily come off at the point where the hinges are attached.
  • bad insulation. Folding harmonicas filter the sound frankly badly. In addition, it is difficult to equip them with a lock, which means that they do not provide any privacy.

“Accordion” is a good solution for a private house, especially if it is made of light material and painted accordingly. In the apartment, she can also find her place, but she will have to make an effort.

Advice

"Accordion" is made of lightweight materials. Under the weight of heavy hinges will simply break prematurely.

Roto

Roto is a relatively new way of making doors, which will look strange in a classic, Provence or rustic interior, but is perfect for high-tech style. It looks like a door leaf fixed in the opening on the axis of rotation.

To go through it, just push the canvas. It will spin along the axis, letting the incoming one through, and then fall back into place. This design resembles the entrance to a supermarket and looks very original in a residential building.

This design has its advantages:

  • Relative compactness. In order to open such a door, there is enough space required for rotation. And it's definitely less than a meter.
  • Kind of aesthetic. Roto is a very extravagant way to decorate the aisle, but in certain styles it will look perfect. The main thing is to choose the right one.

There are also disadvantages:

  • Relative unreliability of the mechanism. The axis of rotation on which the door is fixed can be damaged by pulling hard on the handle. And if an animal or a child runs into it, the result will be completely deplorable.
  • Lack of isolation. Roto is well fixed in one position, but still not so firm that it doesn’t let heat or sound through at all.
  • Rarity. Since the product is new, only gaining popularity, not suitable for every interior, it can be difficult to find a roto in a small city.

However, if you have neither children nor animals, and there is no one to make noise in the apartment, a roto can be an excellent acquisition. Especially if you remember that such a design needs to be made of lightweight materials. A solid piece of wood is definitely not suitable, since the hinges holding it will fail very quickly.

Design Features

Having figured out how wooden doors differ from glass ones, how tsargovye differ from panel doors, how sliding "accordions" are better and worse than ordinary swing doors, you can finally decide what you need.

For this:

  • draw a house plan - either with a pencil or with a program;
  • figure out what your budget is;
  • estimate how much space interior doors should take;
  • measure what size they should be;
  • evaluate the color scheme, the overall interior design, design plans.

The material depends on the budget, their design depends on the space occupied by the doors. From the design of the rooms - the color, coupled with the overall design. In the process, certain nuances must be taken into account.

Color combinations

The color of the doors can be very different and only design limits it. You can combine it in different ways:

  • Tuning. A door in the same color as the wall completes the room. Well suited if the interior does not need to be supplemented, it is enough just not to distract attention from it.
  • Neutrality. The neutral color at the door is most often natural wood. It looks beautiful, has an individual texture, but does not attract too much attention. If you want something more interesting, but still neutral, you can take a color that is a couple of tones lighter or darker than the color of the flooring.
  • Contrast. A contrasting door is a good solution where there is not enough tension, where the interior seems boring. It should contrast with the floor, and in order to choose the right shade, you can use the table, which is easy to find on the Internet.
  • Matching with furniture. This method is also used - after all, the furniture is matched to the interior, the door, matched to her tone, will definitely not be knocked out of it. You can slightly change the shade, you can pick up tone on tone.

The combinations include more interesting options:

  • Mirror finish. In a small room where there is almost no free space, a mirrored interior door will visually add it. In addition, it can be used instead of a real growth mirror, for which there may not be a place.
  • . Fits well with old-fashioned vintage, classic style, gothic. A stained glass window can depict any picture that suits the interior, but it is important to ensure that enough attention is paid to it. If he is surrounded by bright accessories, he will get lost without making the right impression.
  • Color inserts. Stained glass or a painted finish looks good in small quantities if it harmonizes with the main color scheme of the room. It is good to save bright colors for the nursery, where they will delight the child.

And in addition to combinations, you can pay attention to how specific colors are perceived:

  • The black. A classic that allows for some carelessness but doesn't go well with anything but art deco, baroque and modern interiors. Looks good in contrasting rooms, in combination with white furniture, white floor. But still, the black door requires effort - it needs to fit into the interior.
  • natural wood. Any shades of it fit anywhere, except for tough modern interiors. Looks especially good with the classics.
  • Bright warm colors. Visually narrow the room, but at the same time make it more comfortable.
  • Bright cool colors. Visually expand the room, but make it less comfortable.

Interior doors, of course, are an extremely important design element of any apartment. After all, it is the doors that connect the two spaces that must be in harmony with both rooms, regardless of whether they are made in the same general style or inspired by completely different ideas.

Interior doors - construction type

Swing

Habitual, simple and most common. Suitable for any interior. There are single-leaf and double-leaf, with or without thresholds. This way of opening "eats" the space;

Sliding (coupe)

Suitable for practical people. The door leaf moves along guides that can be installed on the floor and (or) on the ceiling. For such doors, evenness of the walls is not required. Perfectly save space, do not interfere, stable, silent, safe for children. As a minus, not very good sealing can be noted, which allows noise, smell and light to enter the room;

folding

During opening, the structure slides with a roller along the guides and folds, and when closed, it unfolds. This type is well suited for narrow aisles. Folding doors are not ideal for keeping out noise and cold and require frequent repairs to the opening mechanism. But they can be a godsend for interesting interior design and room zoning;

accordion door

This type of door has slightly more wings, due to which, when shifted, it forms a kind of accordion. These doors are made from a variety of materials, from wood to metal. Very functional and useful, because with the help of "Accordion" you can divide the room into 2 zones. Thus, you can separate the hall from the dining area, or connect the study to the living room or bedroom, because such a division will look like an ordinary partition or screen and will help to play with space. These doors are mainly popular with styles such as hi-tech and minimalism. The size and quantity can be completely different. Doors "Accordion" are noticeably cheaper than glass and wooden interior doors.

door material

The material from which they are made also has a great influence on how interior doors will look in the interior, so we decided to pay special attention to this item.

The price here, of course, also plays an important role, however, with the modern huge assortment, a person with even the most limited budget can choose a worthy option for his home. We present to your attention a detailed description of the most popular materials for interior doors.

Wooden door

Natural wood is still the most popular door material. Interior doors are produced both from cheap species - birch, cherry and pine, and from more expensive and durable - ash, oak and beech.

Natural doors can completely transform your interior, so it’s worth considering: maybe it’s better to buy a pine door than an expensive veneer?

Advantages of wooden doors :

  • environmental friendliness;
  • the ability to create different forms.

Disadvantages of a wooden door:

  • high cost;
  • capriciousness of wood (due to naturalness).

Veneered door

In the production of this type of door, the outer surface (the one that is visible to the eye) is made from more expensive rocks than the inner one. Veneered interior doors are excellent in operation, quite reliable and also have a natural appearance.

Disadvantages of veneer doors

  • partial nature.

Advantages of a veneered door:

  • low price compared to wooden doors.

laminated door

Laminated doors are considered lower in class than veneered ones. From the outside they are finished with laminate and a film with a print (imitating wood, or any other), inside they consist of a pine frame and paper honeycomb filler.

Advantages of laminate doors:

  • low cost;

Cons of a laminated door:

  • Damaged coating cannot be repaired.

Glass door

Glass doors have a very impressive appearance. Their smooth texture reflects nearby surfaces, and the design is admirable.

Glass interior doors look good in high-tech interiors, minimalism and other modern urban trends.

Cons of glass doors:

  • fragility
  • poor soundproofing

Advantages of glass doors:

  • look spectacular;

We select the color

To create an organic one, it is enough to use doors of universal shades (light and dark tones), as well as white doors.

Interior doors in bright colors are suitable for installation in apartments with an original, individual style.

Among the light shades, the leading place is occupied by warm woody neutral tones. They will fit well into the interior of any style, do not focus attention on themselves, hiding the flaws of the room.

White doors perfectly refresh the space, recently the bleached oak color has been especially popular.

In combination with flooring in chateau oak or wenge oak, the following combination creates a classic style in the interior of the apartment.

Modern interior doors in light shades with glass inserts make the interior weightless, spreading light from the rooms to the corridor and hallway. Stained glass in the doors creates a special mood, but colored glass inserts are combined with a calm interior.

Dark shades of doors are also considered universal, but, compared to light ones, their choice should be more thoughtful. The dark color of the doors should resonate with something in the same tone in the interior - window frames, skirting boards, pieces of furniture, floor color. Most of all, dark shades are suitable for a classic style. However, it is not recommended to install dark doors in a small apartment.

Bright doors fit perfectly into the Scandinavian style - it is characterized by a white background of the main interior decoration with bright elements and details.

The devil is in the details

As with any design, details are important when designing doors.

As you know, a door is not only a door leaf, but everything connected with it:

  • fittings (locks, latches, handles);
  • plinth;
  • platbands;
  • box.

In order for the interior door to look impeccable in the interior, all these details must be connected in style not only with each other, but also with the design of the room. Find a connection and maintain every detail at least once.

And the last tip that will help bring your interior to perfection: be sure to put the casing and the box on openings without doors. The interior with a perfectly smooth white opening looks beautiful and gives a feeling of open space. But, this is only at first, right after the repair. Over time, the joints of the materials at the ends get rubbed, dirty, peel off and you have to hide it with the help of inconspicuous plastic corners.

The best way to avoid this situation is to order the opening lining: for the price, this is only 20% of the cost of the door leaf. This is not such a big expense, which, however, can protect you from annoying imperfections that spoil your mood.
