Other gadgets that make life easier. Modern gadgets that make life easier

An elderly person, even a practically healthy one, sooner or later finds it difficult to do things that young people sometimes do not even notice. Let's talk about what can make life easier for an elderly person.

It is difficult for older people not only to bend down, get up and walk. Painful joints do not allow raising hands in order to comb. Violations of fine motor skills lead to the fact that it becomes difficult to hold thin objects: pens and pencils, forks, spoons, toothbrushes, cup handles. To reduce these problems, so-called "small means of rehabilitation" have been invented:

  • thickening nozzles, or holders for pens or pencils;
  • holders for mugs, forks, knives in the form of an elastic loop into which you can pass the entire palm;
  • massage brushes-combs with a long handle;
  • grabs for lifting objects from the floor;
  • grips for putting on shoes, socks.

And many other useful little things that we will talk about, analyzing specific situations in which older people have certain difficulties.

Get into the apartment

Speaking about your own home in our country, it is worth remembering not so much luxurious cottages as the so-called private sector - wooden houses, not always even steps. If it is not possible to attach a convenient ramp with handrails, you will at least have to make sure that the steps are repaired on time and the handrails are strong. And be sure to consider additional lighting: the ability to clearly see the environment saves an elderly person from many injuries. Both traditional light bulbs with a switch are suitable (only two switches are needed, one on the railing, the second at the very entrance), as well as more modern remote-controlled devices - the question, as always, is financial possibilities.

For the hallway / corridor / entrance to the house (if we are talking about a house), the simplest and most convenient solution would be to connect a lamp to a volume sensor. As soon as the volume sensor detects movement, it turns on the light and the timer. After 2-3 minutes, the light turns off by itself. Volume sensors are inexpensive - from 300 rubles.

The hooks at the door will not interfere either - hang the bags for a while while you have to fiddle with the keys. Those who walk “with a stick” will also benefit from wall-mounted cane holders.

Movement on the street and apartment

If it is not so easy to influence the state of the streets, then making sure that there are no thresholds, carpets on the floor and other things that are so easy to stumble over (not to mention that they interfere with a person in a wheelchair) is simply necessary. You may need to widen the doors so that a stroller can pass through them. But these are, so to speak, large-scale alterations. Less expensive - but very useful - can be handrails located in strategic places:

  • In the bathroom: along the walls, removable handrails on the bath itself;
  • Near the toilet, so that it is easier to sit down and rise;
  • Against the wall along the bed: sometimes it can be a problem to roll over from side to side, and not only for a deeply disabled person, which any woman who has carried a child at least once will confirm.

The well-known canes, walkers, strollers also help to move around.

Canes.

Walkers.

Wheelchairs.

The choice of models is great - from simple and not very convenient, but indestructible designs of the Soviet design, to devices with an electric drive. If the stroller is used in an apartment, you need to check if it fits through the doorways, and in the case of a multi-level apartment or house with stairs, you may have to take care of special lifts (which, unfortunately, are very expensive).

Difficulty sitting and getting up

Climbing in bed, in addition to the handrails, can help a special device that resembles a rope ladder with round strong rungs. A special functional, "hospital" bed can change the angle of inclination - so that a person can take a semi-sitting position while remaining in bed - but it is not cheap. There are also special lifts that help you leave the bed and get into a wheelchair.

Difficulty taking a bath

Keeping yourself clean is one of the basic human needs, and older people find it hard to bear the situation when it becomes inaccessible. What can help in this case:

  • the already mentioned handrails, which help both to climb into the bath itself and to be stable in it;
  • special ladders (with railings);
  • non-slip mats on the bottom of the bathroom - rubber or silicone;
  • “Seat”, which allows you not to sink completely to the bottom of the bath - it can be too hard for an elderly person - but to sit comfortably while sitting;
  • a special bath for those who find it difficult to climb over the sides - with a door;
  • "sitting" bath - high, with an already built-in seat, where an elderly person can comfortably sit down, and still plunge into the water;
  • electric lifts for the bathroom.
  • if the area allows - a shower cabin with a seat, folding or stationary. Shower cabins without thresholds allow you to drive inside right in the stroller (however, you will have to redo the floor in the bathroom, equipping the drain).

And, given the forgetfulness of the elderly, the flood sensors of the apartment with the water shut off will not interfere.

Safety in the kitchen

Elderly people often complain of weakness and problems with holding objects - in the kitchen this can be downright dangerous. A special tilting kettle stand allows you to pour hot liquid from the kettle without fear of dropping it from your hands and getting burned. In foreign online stores, it is searched for by the query "kettle tipper", we did not manage to find a Russian-language analogue. If you, dear reader, have seen something similar in the domestic Internet space, please leave a comment.

So that an elderly person does not have to “dive” inside the closet, looking for the right item, it is better to replace the kitchen set with furniture with sliding shelves. You will also have to remake the kitchen for a wheelchair user - modern kitchen sets do not allow you to drive close to the work surface or sink, for this you need free space under the countertop.

A one-handed cutting board will come in handy whether or not both limbs function equally well. Older people have poor coordination and often get injured where younger people don't see a problem.

By the way, there are also special boards with clips in which you can fix and safely open jars with a screw cap without worrying that it will slip out of your hands and break.

If possible, replace kitchen utensils with unbreakable ones. This does not mean that you need to put hiking mugs and plastic plates instead of your grandmother's service - now they also produce dishes made of impact-resistant glass.

And if the kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, it would be nice to install gas leak sensors.

Poor eyesight

Big clocks with large numbers, special phones "for grandmothers" with large buttons and large print - all this is well known. But modern technologies allow you to get a talking watch, dial a number with your voice, and e-books with Text-to-speech technology will help diversify leisure time for an elderly person.

bad hearing

Not everyone wears, and not everyone can help. Once again, technology comes to the rescue. Fitness bracelets are not only a fashionable toy for young people. Connected to the mobile, they vibrate when the device receives an incoming call or SMS. And the doorbell can be replaced with a special “smart” wireless one, which can also transmit a signal to a mobile phone. True, young family members will have to set up all these smart systems.

By the way, especially humane persons can also take care of their neighbors, for whom a deaf old man with a TV set can become a real punishment, especially considering senile insomnia. Good wireless headphones will save neighbors from noise, and the elderly person himself from conflicts.

Problems with medication

Elderly people are forced. Old people are forgetful. These two facts clearly contradict each other. Both forgotten and drunk several times, the medicine can seriously harm the already less than ideal health. Plastic pillboxes are relatively inexpensive, and, depending on the design, allow you to divide medicines not only for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but also by day. It remains only to decompose from once a week - and most people cope with this on their own. More "advanced" devices can beep that it's time to take pills and dispense a pre-prepared set of drugs.

Sanitary fixtures

It is not customary to talk about this side of life openly, meanwhile, the ability to comfortably cope with natural needs is no less important than cleanliness of the body.

If it is impossible to arrange handrails on the walls of the toilet so that it is convenient for an elderly person to use them, a special nozzle on the toilet bowl with handrails will help.

Many older people are forced to get up frequently at night due to kidney disease, bladder or prostate adenoma. If going to the toilet at night turns into a test, a portable dry closet or a special sanitary chair can help. Prices for them are about the same, so considerations of personal convenience come into play here.

Everyday security

To old people . They often cannot get up, being completely helpless. They forget to charge their phones and rarely keep them on hand around the clock. So that an elderly person can call for help at any time, there are special devices with disturbing buttons. Foreign manufacturers produce many such gadgets and organize hotlines. In Russia, there is only one “Life Button” program so far, which allows an elderly person to contact the dispatcher around the clock by pressing only one button on the device, and then the dispatcher will notify the necessary services and relatives. Unfortunately, the program is not free - at the time of this writing, the monthly cost of maintenance was 330 rubles, not counting the need to purchase a bracelet-phone or a pendant-phone.

Developed countries are getting older. And if earlier the way of life and the atmosphere were created, first of all, for the young and active, now manufacturers are increasingly thinking about how to make life easier for the elderly. New devices appear constantly, it remains only to choose the right ones.

Unfortunately, many of us know how difficult it is to care for a disabled or elderly person who is no longer able to cope on his own. Such care requires not only patience, endurance, kindness, but a lot of strength. Now there are more and more devices and devices that will help create conditions in an apartment or house that are as comfortable as possible for the elderly and people with disabilities.

Bathing a person with disabilities in an ordinary bath is, of course, inconvenient. For such cases, a special bath with a side door was created. Convenient, no need to shift a person over a high side, there are handrails to hold on. The door closes hermetically, the system that controls the overflow of water works. Some models are equipped with hydromassage

For wheelchair users, such a seat was invented, which can be controlled mechanically or have an electric drive. Moved, moved to the bathroom, bathed. With the help of such a seat, a person with disabilities can do it on their own

The only disadvantage of the devices presented by us is the high price.

A more affordable and simpler option is a bath seat, which is placed on the sides and allows you to carry out hygiene procedures with greater comfort. In this case, you will also need a step, which you can buy or replace with an ordinary low and fairly wide bench attached to the bath

In general, all plumbing in the bathroom should be adapted for a low-mobility resident of the apartment. The toilet is no exception, as is the sink. Handrails on the sides of the toilet will help a person move from a wheelchair on their own. The sink should be installed lower than usual so that it can be used while sitting. Handrails can be stationary, folding and rotary

Lifting a bedridden person out of bed is physically difficult. In this case, a special lift will come to the rescue, which can be moved around the house if necessary.

In this case, an ordinary sports corner for apartments was used as a device to help a person with disabilities get out of bed. Swedish wall, rings - a person will be able to pull himself up and transfer to a wheelchair or use a portable toilet with handrails

If a person with limited mobility lives in a house with two floors, he usually has to be content with only the first, because the stairs turn into a difficult barrier. However, a lifting electric mechanism with a comfortable chair solves this problem. Again, the only drawback is the high cost of such a system.

Shower cabins are considered a better option for people with limited mobility than a bath. It is necessary to take care of the seat under the shower and a reliable handrail nearby. In addition, it is desirable that there are no steps and sides in the shower at all.

The shower cabin without a tray with a wide door can be entered directly on the stroller. In this case, the seat is not necessary.

For a recumbent person, it would be advisable to purchase a special bed that will facilitate both his position and care for him. The backrest rises, the base is orthopedic, avoids diaper rash, there is a stand with a handle, so a separate lift is not particularly needed

If we are talking about arranging a kitchen for a wheelchair user, then the main obstacle will be the lower cabinets that make it difficult to drive up to the work surface. They are not so difficult to get rid of, as well as to make sure that the microwave and hob are in an accessible area.

It seems that these are trifles, but for people with disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the elderly, even eating turns into a test. A special set of dishes will help them eat on their own. In addition to spoons with such devices that fit on the hand, there are cutlery with wider, non-slip handles. For people with Alzheimer's disease, it is recommended to choose the handles of spoons and forks, as well as unbreakable red plates, which help them to distinguish objects better.

A modern electric wheelchair with an elevating seat and many other devices is very convenient, but, unfortunately, it costs a lot.

A smart home system is a rather expensive pleasure, but you can use its individual elements. A person with limited mobility should have at hand not only the remote control from the TV, but also from the air conditioner, as well as to control the blinds and curtains. Now you can also close or open a window remotely, there are special systems for this.

Over the years, every gardener has a whole arsenal of different tools. Therefore, the question inevitably arises of how to properly ensure the storage of all this wealth. And this wealth is considerable - shovels and flat cutters of various types, rakes and scythes, choppers and pitchforks - and this is far from being a single copy. And to this is added an abundance of small tools in the form of secateurs, rippers, various spatulas.

In today's article, we intend to offer you some ideas on how you can conveniently arrange and save garden tools by creating some simple but convenient devices for this. We do not want to burden you with our verbosity, since the photos below show in an exhaustive way what these devices consist of. Moreover, these photos will allow any home craftsman to easily build something similar at home.

To give the article some structure, let's divide the storage fixtures by the orientation of the tools installed in them.

Horizontal Storage Accessories

Horizontal storage of garden tools can be provided with the help of structures resembling a Swedish wall.

Storage for tools in the form of a Swedish wall

Another version of the "Swedish wall"

The composition of these devices is elementary simple: bars with notches, mounted on the wall, provide retention of tools and unhindered access to them. Conveniently? Undoubtedly! But there is also a drawback: there may not be even a piece of free space left on the wall.

However, the possibility of horizontal storage is not limited to this. And why not fix such a “storage” directly under the ceiling, as shown in the following photo:

Device for storing garden tools under the ceiling

By storing garden tools under the ceiling, precious space is saved, which is within easy reach of the gardener and householder.

Vertical storage

The device for vertical storage of inventory looks much simpler. The place of its installation is also a wall.

Tubes for vertical storage of instruments

Another option for vertical storage in tubes

Vertical storage by hanging

Shelf for vertical hanging of large inventory

A device for vertical storage can also be equipped outside a barn, bathhouse or other building located on a personal plot.

Vertical storage of tools on the outer wall of the building

As you can see, the mounting options are quite numerous: instruments can be hung or placed in tubes.

The advantages and disadvantages of this method are similar to the previously described "Swedish wall": all the tools are in sight, they are easy to get and put, but they take up quite a lot of space on the wall.

Storage for tools in the form of boxes

Such storages are more economical because they take up much less space. For storage of garden tools, boxes of various designs can be used, having various compartments inside.

Drawer with sections for storing tools

Box with drilled holes

The disadvantage of such designs is difficult access to the tools located in the middle. In order to get them, you will have to pull out a large number of neighbors from the box.

So, above we talked about large instruments. But the arsenal of gardeners is far from being limited to them.

Small inventory storage devices

To conveniently store such small inventory as secateurs, baking powder, spatulas and similar tools, you can build shelves like this:

Small tool suspension option

But you can not complicate your life and simply stick these tools into a container filled with sand soaked in vegetable oil. It is vegetable, and not machine, in order to avoid the likelihood of the latter being introduced into cultivated soil.

Hose storage

When thinking about storing inventory, don't forget about watering hoses. Hanging them on thin holders is not recommended. Under their own weight, they can sag, forming a kink that makes it difficult to use them further. An example of a hose storage device would be this one:

Hoses should be stored in such a way that they do not become kinked.

An old pan or bucket, fixed with the bottom on the wall, can be a convenient support for hanging a hose, and their internal cavity can play the role of a kind of shelf for laying any little things on it.

How much does inventory storage cost?

It is quite inexpensive. To create such storages, you can use the lumber or trimmings you already have, or purchase them on the construction market. Any home craftsman knows that the cost of raw lumber is very low, even if they are purchased individually.

We will be glad if you tell us how you organize the storage of garden tools. You can leave your comments below.

In the video below, you can see how to create a simple wall bar inventory storage.

Convenience in everyday life makes our life easier, and if for some people working in the kitchen is a burden, then with such devices and designer arrangements, the legs themselves will run to the kitchen :)) There is always little space for kitchen utensils in the kitchen, so many often come up with all sorts of options, as much as possible it is rational to use furniture for your needs. Not to mention the bulk products themselves, jars, flasks, spices and bulky things, such as baking sheets, lids and pans, all these numerous things should lie comfortably, only then will the kitchen be desirable to us. I have been collecting all these ideas from the Internet for a long time, it's time to share with you :)) Enjoy your viewing :))

1. Fruit holder for a tea set.

2. The dream of any hostess is a pantry.

3. Soft corner under the window.

4. The original use of the corner. The door rises up.

5.Very competent zoning, but I would not place a sink in the built-in island-bar.

6. It's really not new, but it's convenient :))

7.Yum-yum :)) My husband is already puzzled (to put it mildly):))) Well, can you lose sight of such a convenient option for additional storage? :))

8. An empty tissue box is used as a container for bags.

9. For wine collectors, there are many options for accommodating an original wine cellar in an apartment.

10. Great idea!!!

11. And this is generally incomparable !!! Proper use of the corner in furniture with a rotary device for all kinds of our spices :))

12. A sliding table in the kitchen helps to solve the issue of small spaces.

13. And here is a great idea for placing baking dishes. A very handy device. thanks to which you don’t have to rattle and, like Vitsin, pull out the lowest "pot" :))

14. The convenient location of the pans is still applicable only to a large kitchen.

15. A towel in the kitchen always spoils the whole design look :)) And in this version, both it and a paper towel are always at hand, only a couple of holes need to be drilled on the back wall for ventilation.

16. A soft corner with pull-out drawers :) Usually this storage is done with the upper part raised, but this is not convenient!

17. Another option for a pantry.

18. Dedicated to cooks!!! :)

19. Corner in the pantry.

20. Columns can also be customized :)

21. This idea is good for an island :) Built-in bread box. But I keep bread in the refrigerator in a special compartment. That way it stays longer :)

22. Another option for connecting storage to a refrigerator. This time pride of place is given to cleaning supplies.

23. A very original device for lining the hood and masking all kinds of spices that should be at hand.

24. The doors of this cabinet are recessed into the walls.

25. Wine storage :) And if you make it not so deep, then such a device can be used for designer placement of mugs, which you all probably have a lot in the kitchen :) If somewhere on vacation, then many carry a souvenir in the form of a mug . Here is an idea for your collection :))

26. If the area allows, then in the kitchen or in the corridor you can disguise the laundry corner :)

27. Oh, like in a store! Surely this can only be applied in the house, when you think over such a convenient pantry in advance.

32. Great idea for cutting boards and using a corner.

33. Even such a tiny space of depth can be very much adapted to your spices, and not only, did you notice the hooks at the top? :))

34. And here is an idea for you to store fruits. This is a very handy device. With us, they always take up a lot of space on the countertop and bar counter. Today I will go to the building with a garden compartment and there I will buy a suitable version of a planter for flowers on the street. I think we will adapt it for such a purpose :)))

35. This option is not entirely convenient, because to get into the lower compartment, you need to push the upper one, but if you place rare items in the lower compartment, then everything is tip-top :) But the external facade of the kitchen is not broken :)

36. I already spoke about these rotary devices, but now it is used for the corner of the furniture, and there in the pantry.

37. Wine cellar. True, it’s not very convenient and you probably shouldn’t hold the bottles like that, but if you make a more frequent lattice, then everything will improve.

38. Soft corner option.

39. I already posted this option, but I could not resist showing it one more time, it was too original solution to use the corner in the kitchen.

40. Who has little space in the kitchen, then this option of shelves with favorite jars can decorate the kitchen in a designer way.

41. This is not in the kitchen, but it applies to her.

42. At the same time, I posted miniatures in offices, which can also be adapted for the home.

43. This is an option for a smooth transition from the kitchen to the living room.

44. Also applicable for the kitchen :))

45. Option to use the corner. You can attach a corner door :)

46. Placing pot lids.

47. Pantry with sliding shelves.

48. Eco cuisine. I can imagine the size of the house itself :)

49. Also a possible option for a soft corner. I hope the windows are airtight :)
