Wooden sconces. Wooden ceiling lamps: advantages and disadvantages of the material, self-production of lighting fixtures Unusual do-it-yourself wooden lamps

The topic of our article is wooden ceiling lamps. We will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this material both from the point of view of design and from all other sides; we will find out where these lamps can be used, and where it is better to do with other materials.

Finally, we will learn how to make a wooden lamp with our own hands with little effort and time.

What is associated with the tree in the design of the room? First of all, with antiquity, with the Middle Ages. Over time, when people woke up to the singing of birds, and not the noise of cars outside the window; when men were courageous, women did not know the word "emancipation", they were punched in the face for meanness, and life was much simpler and clearer.

That is why wooden lamps most often have deliberately ancient forms. For example, chandeliers in the shape of a cart wheel are very popular.

After all, this is how real, let’s say, indoor lighting systems looked like several centuries ago: an old wheel on chains or ropes was hung from the ceiling, and candles were placed on it.

Why is it convenient to use a wheel with spokes as a stand?

Why did the ancestors stop at this form?

  • With a uniform placement of candles, it gave the same illumination to all parts of the room;
  • The spokes created a minimum of obstruction to light, in contrast to the solid rim.

Modern stylizations have the same advantages; of course, lamps are used instead of wax candles or torches. Most often, of course, also in the form of a candle.

However, we digress. What are the advantages and disadvantages of wooden ceiling chandeliers?

Material Features

Advantages

  • Wood is not only environmentally friendly. Wood not only does not emit harmful substances; on the contrary, for a long time it saturates the air with aromatic resins, which facilitate breathing in asthma patients, relieve inflammation of the respiratory tract ...
But what can I say - you probably remember how easy it is to breathe in a recently cut down wooden house!
  • Wood is easy to work with which opens up a wide scope for creativity. If for the manufacture of a lamp made of plastic or chrome-plated metal, fixtures that are absent in a standard city apartment are needed, then wooden lamps for manufacturing require a minimum set of hand tools.

However, alas, not all the features of wood as a material for a lamp are as pleasant:

disadvantages

  • Wood is still a combustible material. Placing wooden elements close to outdated incandescent lamps is a bad idea in the extreme; a burnt contact in the lamp socket can also lead to a fire.

  • Wooden chandeliers are attacked by bloodthirsty bugs- woodworms, fungus and other evil spirits.

Please note: softwoods suffer from insects and rot to a much lesser extent.

In addition, for hardwoods, there are antiseptic impregnations, which at the same time reduce the combustibility of wood.

  • Wood is a hygroscopic material. It absorbs moisture from the air; when dried, it can change volume, deform and crack.
If we want our lamp to retain its appearance for a long time, we will have to provide it with a more or less constant temperature and humidity.

conclusions

The negative features of wood are not meant to discourage you from buying or making a wood lamp, not at all. Again, this is a wonderful, very beautiful and easy to process material.

However, it must be used wisely:

  • Wooden fixtures should be shaped so that all heating elements (cartridges and the lamps themselves) are as far away from the wooden structural elements as possible.
It is better that the lamps look up: then the upward flow of heated air will not cause deformation of the wood.
Lamps stand apart, the very style of manufacturing of which involves the use of natural cracks in dried wood. For example, a log hanging on chains with lamps looks great both dry and cracked.

  • For fire safety reasons, it is undesirable to place wooden chandeliers under combustible ceiling elements.
Yes, the same log on chains will look amazing under an equally old-looking one; however, if it catches fire, the fire will spread very quickly.
  • Wooden lamps are perfect for a bedroom or living room.. But in the kitchen with its abundance of steam when cooking or in a damp bathroom, wood is out of place.
It cracks quickly; besides, raw wood is no longer a dielectric at all.

When the phase is shorted to the wooden elements of the lamp, it is quite possible to get an electric shock. If at this moment you hold on to a grounded pipe or bathtub, troubles can be very serious ...

Homemade

Do I need to say that a thing made by one's own hands pleases much more than a bought one? Yes, your lamp may not be as neatly made as the purchased one; but the joy of creativity is worth it for the sake of it to come to terms with the small flaws of the product.

In addition, you will know for sure that your lamp is made in one copy. Not a single guest, coming to you, will see exactly the same chandelier as at home. Homemade ceiling chandeliers are always exclusive.

coffee service

We will need:

  • Dry board from any wood. The texture of ash is very beautiful; oak can not be stained and varnished. But an ordinary pine, spruce or birch is also suitable.
  • Three translucent coffee cups and three saucers.
  • Three cartridges for a small base with mounts for them.
  • Three matching light bulbs. Preferably - LED: remember the fire safety recommendations outlined just above.
  • Three or six rubber pads. The quantity depends on the method of fastening the cartridges.
  • Meter - two two-core copper wires of minimum cross section. 0.75 mm is enough for the eyes.
  • A thin chain or twisted cord in order to hang the structure from, for example.
  • Four screws to a ring instead of a hat. It is for them that our lamp will be suspended.

In addition, you need to stock up on a drill with wood and tile drills, pliers and a screwdriver.

Let's get to work:

  1. We process the planed board with sandpaper - at first coarse, then finer.
  2. We drill three holes where the cartridges will be located.
  3. If noble types of wood are used, then the processing of the board ends here. If the tree is simpler, we cover it with stain and after drying we varnish it twice.
Nitro-lacquer dries in the air in just a couple of hours, so you won’t have to wait long.
  4. Then comes the most dangerous step: we need to drill holes in the coffee cups and saucers without breaking them.
We use only and exclusively a drill for glass and tiles. Great efforts are unacceptable; we drill slowly, without distortions. The key moment is when the tip of the drill goes through: a little more pressure on the drill at this point will crack the cup or saucer.

  1. We cling to each cartridge of the wire. Until we fasten them together.
  2. We screw the entire future lamp into a single whole. If our cartridges use platforms with holes for screws, we attract them to the board directly through the holes in the saucer and cup.
If there is a hollow threaded tube and a nut at the end of the cartridge, again we pass them through the cup, saucer and board. A rubber gasket is placed between metal and glass.
You can cut it yourself from an unnecessary bike or car camera; you can use a ready-made gasket of a suitable size from any plumbing repair kit.
  3. We screw the screws with rings into the back of the board.
  4. We connect the cartridges in parallel. You should not leave twists wrapped with electrical tape: we will carefully make even the side of the lamp that no one will see. Use a block to connect the wires.

  1. The block is fixed on the back side of the board in any way - with a drop of glue or a screw. A piece of wire is clamped in it, which will be connected to the wiring.
  2. We cling to the rings on the back of the chain or cords; their other end is attached to a hook in the ceiling. The wire is started along one of the chains. Light bulbs turn on.

Press the switch and enjoy.

As you understand, the forms that wood chandeliers can take are limited only by your imagination. Let's show some more original designs.

Sailboat made of driftwood and TV packaging

This original lamp is made of oddly shaped driftwood picked up in the forest. The author kindly posted a photo of his creation to the network.

The design, of course, is not a monument to fire safety. However, remember that LED lamps are extremely economical and practically do not heat up. If so, the risk of fire is reduced to nothing.

Chandelier from dry boards and rope

Here, two ready-made matte shades are used as light sources. The most simple and inexpensive. Everything else is the author's improvisation.

What is most striking is not that the lamp is made by hand: as you can see, there is nothing structurally complex in it. It is surprising that the author of the work managed to see beauty in such a seemingly worthless thing as an old board. And show this beauty to others.

Please note: in this design, it is also worth using only and exclusively energy-saving or LED lamps.

Incandescent lamps, especially high wattages, will pose a very real fire hazard.

Beam with pots

And such ceiling lights are not mass-produced. Looks very original. To drill the bottoms of the pots, you also need to use only and exclusively tile drills. In addition, incandescent lamps should not be used here either. Even the weak ones.

Hollowed out log with soffits

Another living nightmare of a fire inspector. However, here, too, the use of light sources with minimal heat release reduces the risk of fire to nothing.

Despite the exaggeratedly simple appearance of the lamp, it is difficult to call it made in five minutes on the knee: it was certainly difficult to hollow out a log inside.

Conclusion

If you like the wooden ceiling lights described and shown, great. Even better, if you have your own, original ideas. As you can see, they can be the most unexpected. Good luck in creativity!

The use of beautiful lamps is one of the simple ways to diversify the interior and make it better. Wooden sconces are a stylish symbol of comfort that will definitely never cease to be relevant and can be used in both classic and modern interiors. It is worth considering what options for natural wood lamps exist, how to use them in the interior.

A bit of history

A few years ago, crystal lamps were considered a symbol of luxury. Now they are gradually being replaced by wooden sconces. This is the return of an old tradition, when it was wooden lighting fixtures that decorated the houses of the rich and even palaces. Of course, these were very simple products, which are far from those lamps that can be found in modern stores.

Fashion for wooden sconces returned in 2010. Then the designers wanted to draw attention to the disaster that took place in New York, and began to create interesting lamps from branches that resembled snags left after a tornado.

This inspired others, and soon the fashion for such bras returned. Now you can even make a unique lamp yourself by decorating the wood with garlands or LED bulbs. This will make the interior really unusual and adjust everything just for you and your preferences.

Advantages and disadvantages

Wall lamps made of wood have both many advantages and a number of disadvantages. Both of them are worth talking about in more detail.

pros

The most important plus of a lamp made of natural wood is the environmental friendliness of this material. If the tree is minimally processed, then it will be completely safe for your health. This means that you can safely fix such a lamp on the wall, even in the nursery. The tree is also good because it saturates the air with resins that make breathing easier.

Another positive point is that wood is easy to work with. This means that you can create a variety of shapes of lamps, you can also decorate them with interesting patterns. Products made of natural wood are very stylish and beautiful. The advantages include the strength of such material as wood. Wood is very durable.

If it is additionally treated with special impregnations, then the lamp will turn out to be even better.

Minuses

However, not everything is so simple, and wooden sconces have certain disadvantages. These nuances primarily include insecurity . In a natural wood lamp incandescent lamps must not be used. This can be unsafe: if the contact burns in the cartridge of such a lamp, then the tree can also flare up quite quickly.

A wooden product can attract insects. However, even here you can solve the problem - with the help of simple impregnations. There are solutions that can protect wood from pests. It is recommended to give preference to coniferous lamps.

The last of the cons moisture damages wood. This material accumulates it extremely quickly, after which the surface of the sconce can be deformed and lose its attractiveness.

In order for the lamp you bought or created to last for a long time, try to hang such a device only in a room where there is no high humidity.

Such sconces are more suitable for bedrooms and living rooms, you should not hang them in the bathroom or in the kitchen, where the surface of the tree will constantly pour hot steam.

By the way, it is worth noting that there are breeds that are less susceptible to moisture. This is, for example, cedar. A cedar wood lamp treated with special solutions will serve you longer.

Options

There is a wide variety of wooden sconces that you can choose to decorate different rooms. Here are some cool ideas to inspire you.

Classical

If you're looking for some stylish classics, look no further than antiques. The classic antique-styled wall lamp looks very interesting in the corresponding interior. Such a lamp will make the room more comfortable. The main thing when choosing classic sconces made of natural wood is not to overdo it. If you hang several expensive sconces in a room at once with a finish reminiscent of past luxury, then this may be superfluous.

Modern

Many designers are pleased with experiments. For example, the Curve brand. This is a company that produces interesting lamps, each of which perfectly complements the modern or high-tech style.

Geometry

However, it is not at all necessary to experiment with shapes; you can stop at a classic product made in the form of a square or a circle. Such wooden sconces look good in minimalist rooms.

Handmade

Handmade lamps deserve special attention. It is always something unique and unusual. At the same time, it is not even always necessary to be able to work with wood - a stylish lamp can be created even from a simple twig coated with varnish and special impregnations.

A garland or LEDs will act as a light source here. In both cases, the lamp will not heat up, which means that it will be absolutely safe.

In what interior to use?

Almost any house or apartment can be supplemented with a stylish lamp made of high-quality wood. The main thing is to skillfully combine different details and organically fit the sconces into the interior. So, for example, in a modern apartment, a wooden lamp with a wrought iron base will definitely be out of place. You need to know how to avoid such mistakes, where to install natural wood sconces.

In the bedroom

Since the majority of people associate wood with a feeling of comfort, a lamp made of this noble material will fit perfectly into the interior of any bedroom:

  • For couples vacation designers tend to recommend choosing something simpler and more discreet, such as square sconces, wooden clouds complemented by LEDs, or simple panels decorated with patterns. An ideal option for the bedroom is a wooden night light shining with soft colored lights. Subdued lighting will help create a pleasant atmosphere in the room for relaxation.
  • For children you can pick up something special - for example, a wall lamp that transmits rays through curly openings, creating beautiful patterns on the walls, or a lamp made in the shape of an interesting animal or cartoon character. Even an unpainted tree will still look quite cute and unusual.

In the living room

A sconce with elegant carvings around the entire perimeter of the floor lamp will complement a modern living room well. You can pay attention to the lamps, complemented by fabric elements or inserts made of metal, glass. The latter are best suited for decorating a room in modern style. This option is very well suited for a loft-style apartment.

To stand out from the general mass of apartment design, many decide to create a unique interior. Often wooden lamps help to achieve the goal. They stand out brightly against the background of modern options, attract the attention of guests and are inexpensive. Moreover, such chandeliers, sconces or table lamps can be made with your own hands. Consider the advantages of wooden lamps, what types of design are there and what you can do yourself.

In this article:

Advantages and disadvantages of wood

Wood has been used in the interior of premises since the appearance of man, it has not lost its relevance even now. Among the main advantages, we note two points:

  • Environmental friendliness. Unlike plastic shades, wood does not emit dangerous fumes, even when heated. Moreover, coniferous materials can fill the room with a pleasant aroma. In some cases, this property helps fight colds.
  • Ease of processing. It is difficult to find a more malleable material for self-production than wood. A person has a wide scope for imagination, which will help to realize a few elementary tools. And the finished product will be able to surprise everyone who sees it, it will compare favorably with the factory options.

Still, there are good reasons why manufacturers rarely produce wooden lamps. The disadvantages include:

  • combustibility. No matter how the surface is impregnated, the tree can still flare up, especially if you use incandescent lamps.
  • Pests. For metal, corrosion is terrible, and for wood - various insects. A finished chandelier can be undermined by bugs, fungus and other unpleasant organisms.
  • Hygroscopicity. It is not recommended to install a wooden lamp in the bathroom. This material swells, deforms and breaks down over time due to the fact that it absorbs moisture. To some extent, special impregnations will help protect against water.

The most resistant type of wood for fixtures is needles. It is less prone to insect attacks and copes better with moist air.

We select the style of the lamp in accordance with the interior

Homemade wooden chandeliers fit well not only in the spacious royal halls, but also in an ordinary apartment. Currently, there are several interior styles that get along well with such lamps:

  • Country. The main idea is to create a simple rustic coziness. Pine needle lamps are perfect.
  • Provence. Here you need to work hard, because such chandeliers are made from high-quality processed wood so that its texture is clearly visible. The image is not complete without sophisticated lampshades.
  • Oriental. To create such a decorative lamp, use unusual materials, such as bamboo or vine.
  • Chalet. These are rough simple lamps, the basis for which are old wooden things - dry barrels, baskets or a trough.
  • rustic. This style is not much different from the previous one. The only thing that can be noted is the more messy forms. Lamps are made from untreated wood.
  • Modern. Square strict chandeliers made of thin slats can complement the interior of a living room or dining room.

Options for self-manufacturing lamp

The tree gives almost unlimited possibilities for the manufacture of unique lamps. You can use all the materials at hand, even the waste that you meet in the forest. To work, you need simple tools:

  • hammer;
  • screwdriver / drill;
  • nails and screws;
  • glue;
  • materials for impregnation;
  • dye.
  • Finished wooden products

One of the most popular options for do-it-yourself wooden lamp bases is finished products, for example, a cart wheel. In the past, such chandeliers were hung in taverns, and material could be found at almost every step. Now such a product is available for purchase only in a specialized store.

To make an original wooden chandelier, take a base wheel, a certain number of lamps, depending on the dimensions of the product, chains for fastening and materials to hide the power wire. Small touches will help to create an additional feeling of immersion in antiquity - you can upholster the tree with forged parts. Such a lamp is suitable for a wooden house and fits perfectly into the overall interior.

If you can't find a wagon wheel, you definitely have regular wooden clothespins. From them you can make a chandelier, sconce or table lamp. Some models will require glue, others only time and enthusiasm. As an example for the base, you can use a metal mesh, roll it into a cylinder large enough to fit a lamp inside. From the outside, attach clothespins, without glue and nails, just putting them on the base. You can attract a child to work, and the warm light from the finished lamp will be a pleasant reminder of the time spent together.

You can make a lamp out of wood using ordinary hangers. Just stack them on top of each other so that there is room for a lamp in the center. And to make the design look more attractive, rotate each subsequent hanger a little around its axis. Only glue is needed for fastening. Do not doubt that such a handmade lamp will not leave you indifferent.

In a similar way, you can independently come up with ideas on how to make a lamp out of wood. Anything will go into business: old kegs, a ship's steering wheel, popsicle sticks and much more.

Natural materials from the forest

If for the past options you had to buy the basics, then in this section we will consider wooden blanks that can be found in the forest. As an example, use birch bark instead of a lamp shade. It will dim the lights and make the atmosphere in the room more romantic and calm. The only thing to remember is that such material is flammable and it is better to use LED lamps.

If fantasy ends, and a lamp for a garden or local area is still needed, take a stump and punch a hole in it. Put a kerosene lamp in the finished niche or run a wire for LED lamps. You can fix solar panels upstairs and then there will be light in the yard, even when it is turned off in the house. Such a lantern is weatherproof and looks interesting under the snow.

For some, driftwood is rubbish, but for us it is the basis for a lamp. Of course, the tree must be sanded and varnished or painted in advance. At the top of the structure, fix one or more spotlights with a thin base. To get a subdued light, you can use the lampshade, which was written about above, or make it out of paper, fabric. Even if you decide to make another similar lamp, the finished products will definitely have a different unusual shape.

Output

Having collected a bundle of thin twigs, you can make an elegant lamp at home. Glue the sticks to the round ring pointing them vertically down, alternate different lengths to make the finished chandelier look even more unusual. Install a light bulb in the center and such a lamp can be hung in the kitchen or dining room. If you cut an arc (for example, from an old bucket), then branches can be glued to the outer surface. Such homemade work will serve as a wall lamp in the hallway.

There are no limits to fantasy. You can independently come up with a unique decorative design for the lamp and assemble it yourself. The finished design will serve you for many years, make the evenings cozier and warmer.

A photo
In the design of private houses, wood is most often associated with antiquity. Therefore, wood lamps have an old look. The most popular designs are cart wheel chandeliers.

How to make a lamp with your own hands from wood?

Advantages and disadvantages of wooden structures

This type of structure has the following advantages:

  • if you evenly place candles, then the design will give the same illumination to all elements of the room;
  • the spokes will practically not create obstacles to the light.

Modern stylizations have the same advantages, but today lamps are used instead of candles made of wax and torches. In most cases, such designs are made in the form of a candle.

Wood structures have the following advantages:

Scheme of a round wooden lamp: 1 - segments for the rim, 2 - turned spoke, 3 - hub.

  1. The material is environmentally friendly. Not only will it not emit harmful substances, but it will also saturate the air with aromatic resins that make it easier for people to breathe.
  2. Wood can be easily processed. If special tools are needed for the production of a plastic or metal structure, then do-it-yourself lamps from wood can be made using a minimum set of fixtures.

Disadvantages of wooden structures:

  1. Wood is a combustible material. It is not recommended to place elements of this material next to incandescent lamps. If the contact burns in the lamp socket, the structure may ignite.
  2. Wooden ceiling fixtures are attacked by bugs, fungus and other pests. Coniferous trees suffer the least from rot and pests. For hardwoods, it is recommended to use antiseptic agents that can reduce the combustibility of the material.
  3. Wood is a hygroscopic material. It absorbs moisture from the air, as a result of which, during the drying process, the material may change volume, shape, or crack. In order for the structure to serve for a long time, it will be necessary to provide it with a constant temperature and humidity.

Nuances to be considered in the manufacture of wooden structures

In the process of constructing lamps made of wood, the following nuances must be taken into account:

Scheme of assembling a lamp from wooden rings.

  1. The structures must be of such a shape that all heating elements are removed from fixtures that are made of wood. The lamps should look upwards, because only in this case the upward air flow will not cause deformation of the tree.
  2. Fire safety rules prohibit placing wooden chandeliers under flammable elements.
  3. Wood lamp is great for bedroom or living room. In the kitchen or bathroom, where there is a sufficiently large amount of steam, such structures are not allowed to be placed.

In the event of a phase short, you can easily get an electric shock.

Making a lamp in the shape of a coffee service

To make a lamp with your own hands, you will need to prepare the following elements:

Diagram of a LED wooden lamp.

  1. Dry board made of wood of any kind. You can use both ordinary pine or birch, and ash. Oak is also suitable, which does not need to be painted or varnished.
  2. Several translucent coffee cups and saucers for them.
  3. Several cartridges for a small base with fasteners for them.
  4. The required number of bulbs. In this case, it is recommended to use LED elements.
  5. A small amount of rubber pads. Their number will depend on the method of fixing the cartridges.
  6. A two-core copper wire of small cross section and short length. It is best to use a wire with a cross section of 0.75 mm.
  7. Small chain or twisted cord. These elements will be used to secure the product to the ceiling structure.
  8. The required number of screws with rings. The luminaire will be suspended using these elements.
  9. Electric drill.
  10. Drills for working with wood and tiles.
  11. Pliers.
  12. Screwdriver or screwdriver.

The construction process is as follows:

  1. The planed board is processed with sandpaper (first - rough, then - thin).
  2. Next, you will need to drill a few holes in the places where you plan to place the cartridges.
  3. If noble types of wood are used, then further processing of the material will not be required. If other types of wood are used, then the material must be stained, then dried and varnished in several layers. In the open air, nitrolac will dry for several hours, so this process will not take much time.

  1. In the next step, you will need to drill holes in the coffee cups and saucers, while it is very important not to damage them. In this case, you need to use only a drill for working with glass and tiles. It is not allowed to make great efforts. You need to drill at a low speed, in the process you need to ensure that there are no distortions. If you press hard on the electric drill, the bowl or saucer may break.
  2. Wires must be attached to all available cartridges. At this stage, you should not fasten them to each other.
  3. The whole structure is screwed together. If the cartridges will use platforms with holes for fasteners, then they must be pulled to the board through the holes in saucers or cups. If there is a threaded pipe and a nut on the end of the cartridge, then they must be passed through the cups, saucers and board. Rubber gaskets must be installed between metal and glass elements. Such a device can be made independently from an unused camera from a bicycle or car.
  4. Screws with rings will need to be screwed into the back of the board.
  5. Cartridges are connected in parallel. No need to leave twists that are wrapped with electrical tape. Carefully you need to make even that part of the lamp that no one can see. To fasten the wires, you will need to use a block.
  6. The block must be fixed on the back of the board by any method: a small amount of adhesive mixture or screws. In it you need to clamp a piece of wire that will be connected to the wiring.
  7. On the back, chains or cords are attached to the rings. The second end of these elements is attached to a hook in the ceiling. The wire must be run through one of the circuits. At the end, you need to install light bulbs.

Plywood lace design

Tools for making a wooden lamp.

It should be noted that this design is not ideal in terms of fire safety. However, in this case, LED lamps are used, which are economical. It should be remembered that such devices practically do not heat up. Therefore, the risk of fire in this case is excluded.

From plywood of small thickness, using a manual jigsaw, you can make masterpieces of applied art. You can make such lamps with your own hands as follows:

  1. First of all, you need to grind a sheet of plywood.
  2. By using carbon paper, you need to transfer the drawing of the details.
  3. Structural elements will need to be cut along the contour.
  4. Inside each of the pieces that will need to be removed, you will need to drill holes. In this case, it is recommended to use a drill with a thickness of 1 mm.
  5. The next step is to cut out the inner parts.
  6. Small files of various shapes will need to clean the edges of the structure.
  7. Next, you need to fasten all the elements together. For this, it is recommended to use an adhesive mixture. It should be noted that PVA glue may turn yellow after a while. Therefore, it is best to use a special adhesive solution for wood. Residues of the adhesive mixture on the visible parts of the structure will need to be carefully removed.
  8. At the end, the product should be varnished.

If you plan to use incandescent lamps, then you should remember that their power should be less than 40 watts.

You need to place them at the maximum possible distance from the elements of wood. Only in this case can overheating of the lamp be avoided.

Other options for wooden lamps

You can make other lamps with your own hands:

  1. Plank and rope construction. In this case, several matte shades are used as light sources. There is nothing complicated in the manufacture of such a design. It should be noted that in this case, only energy-saving or LED light bulbs should be used. High power incandescent lamps quite often create a fire.
  2. Bars with pots. In order to drill the bottoms of the pots, you should use a tile drill. In this case, it is not allowed to install incandescent lamps of any power.
  3. Chopped log with spotlights. It must be borne in mind that it is difficult to hollow out the product.

It is quite simple to make lamps from wood with your own hands. You just need to show imagination and prepare all the elements that will be needed to make the structure.

Magnificent new, this well-forgotten old. This expression fits the new hobby of using natural wood items in the interior. One of the new things are chandeliers made of wood.

The return of interest in them was not only a tribute to fashion, but also the emergence of new technologies in the electrical field.

This is due to the introduction of halogen lamps into production, which do not heat up to a critical temperature.

At present, wooden lamps are not produced in the consumer goods system, there is a model range with several options presented. This depends not only on the fact that the cost of items made of natural material is high, but on the fact that designers are constantly on the lookout. New exclusive collections are constantly coming out of the design shop. Wood itself is a material that allows you to constantly come up with new solutions.

Chandeliers differ from each other in many ways:

  • sizes,
  • according to style,
  • production material,
  • combination of different materials in one design,
  • by the number of connected light sources,
  • according to the method of installation to,
  • according to the complexity of the design.

Choice of chandeliers

Fixture dimensions

According to the external dimensions, chandeliers are made taking into account the understanding of the needs of the consumer. The average size of housing under construction is taken as a basis. Starting from small studio apartments in residential complexes to individual buildings. The developers of lighting fixtures take into account the total volume of the room, the quadrature and the height of the ceilings. An exclusive lamp made of wood can be chosen for any home.

There is a separate opportunity to order a custom-made chandelier from a designer or make it yourself. Materials for such creativity are always at hand.

Wood Lighting Styles

Wood is inherently a conservative material. It is customary to adhere to several main styles:

The choice of do-it-yourself material

The structure of any tree is in constant change. Before assembling the chandelier, all machined parts are treated with special chemical compounds that protect the material from fungus and, or from pests, prevent the possibility of fire. Then the surface is covered with paint mixtures. They keep moisture inside the material, allowing it to maintain the desired shape. Details made of wood constantly retain moisture of at least 20%.

Depending on the location of the chandelier made of wooden parts, its service life depends. Rooms with very dry air will cause the tree to gradually decrease in size. A waterlogged atmosphere will cause the material to expand. These actions themselves occur at an imperceptible level, but over time, the coating gradually becomes unusable and destructive factors gain access to wood. which is irreversibly destroyed.

To increase the life of the parts, it is necessary not only to constantly inspect and maintain it, but also to select the right material for the appropriate location.

Oak

Conclusion

Wood is a wonderful and convenient material for making chandeliers for the home. If you take the necessary actions to maintain such lamps in time, they will provide comfort and coziness in your home for a long time.
