Arch to the balcony: a beautiful design of the entrance. Arch to the balcony: beautiful entrance design Ideas for arches in the apartment instead of balcony doors

Reading 12 min.

To create an atmosphere of comfort in the apartment, while using stylish design solutions and a modern approach to decor, you need to think through a lot of little things in the design of certain areas. Each room can be decorated in different styles, and even balconies are now being renovated to create a functional space. But what if there is a project for a balcony, a room adjacent to it, and the exit to the balcony remains an ordinary white “box”? In the article below, we will talk about how to make another unique and stylish interior object out of a standard balcony exit.

What can be the exit to the balcony

First, you should figure out what kind of exit to the balcony can be. Depending on the purpose and isolation of this space, the adjacent room, the nuances of the interior of the goals pursued, you can choose the option that fits perfectly into your apartment.

Standard balcony block

The first option is an ordinary block with a balcony door, a window and a window sill. In the space under the window, a heating battery is often placed, and the exit itself is curtained with curtains or blinds.

The balcony block has several advantages:

  1. If the apartment is new, the frames and the door look good, then there is no need to replace the unit during repairs;
  2. This is a great option for those apartments in which the balcony is not insulated and not insulated;
  3. The room is strictly separated from the balcony, which allows you to use the premises for different purposes.

At the same time, the design of the block is not limited to wood or standard white PVC. Now the construction market offers a huge selection of non-standard solutions suitable for any interior - lamination of the material, the use of an arched window or a full glass door.

But the standard design of the exit to the balcony will not suit those who have plans to expand the room adjacent to it or want to bring more sunlight and originality into the interior.

Extended glass window

The second decision when making an exit to the balcony is to expand it. Moreover, here you can also choose from several different options. For example:

The upper part of such glazing can be made as an arched window, decorated with stained-glass windows or stucco. Of course, such redevelopment will cost a lot of money, and collecting the necessary permits can take a certain amount of time.

Arch - portal with stained glass

However, the result will definitely meet all expectations, and here's why:

  1. You can achieve symmetry in the design of the output;
  2. The room will receive the maximum amount of light from the balcony;
  3. Thanks to the glass, the balcony block will not look bulky, and the transition between the rooms will look harmonious;
  4. It becomes possible to install non-standard doors (for example, sliding).

The last point, by the way, plays another important role for small rooms - sliding doors save space when they are opened.

If you want to create an integrated space in the living room, gathering a large number of friends and relatives, you can simply open the doors - the room will become larger. If, on the contrary, you need to allocate personal space for someone, it is enough to push the door and curtain the passage.

Whether it is worth cleaning the balcony block - we will find out from our specialist:

Removing a balcony block without glazing

Dismantling the balcony block without subsequent glazing and installing a door helps to completely combine the premises into one. This is a great option for small living rooms, kitchens and even bedrooms.

There are two options for this solution:

In the first case, a prerequisite is to leave the upper load-bearing beam in place of the balcony block. At the same time, if the layout of the apartment allows, you can remove the maximum part of the wall adjacent to the balcony.

If you leave part of the wall and the window sill space, you can achieve not only the unification of space, but also its zoning.

The advantages of such a solution:

  1. The maximum amount of light will enter the room;
  2. It becomes possible to arrange the passage in the form of an arch;
  3. You can create either one large room or a zoned room;
  4. The remains of a balcony block can be used as a basis for a partition, seat, shelves, etc.

Remember that any redevelopment associated with the demolition or construction of walls is a serious interference with the building structure. Such projects must be checked for safety and agreed with local architectural authorities.

Creating an arch to exit to the balcony

The arch as an exit to the balcony is not a new idea, but is still popular among lovers of sophisticated and modern interiors. Moreover, the design of the arch can be either the simplest (made of drywall or wood), or with an interweaving of complex shapes and various expensive materials. It all depends on your imagination and financial capabilities.

Arch with wooden inserts
Arch with built-in lighting

Here are some interesting ideas for creating an arch on the balcony:

As for materials, it is preferable to choose light in weight and easy to install. For example, drywall, polystyrene, wood. For decoration, paint, wallpaper, panels with imitation of wood or stone are well suited.

Room design with balcony

If you have already decided how to decorate the exit to the balcony - with a classic block, arch or panoramic glazing, you should make sure that this design harmoniously fits into the interior of the rest of the room.

Living room

The living room is usually the largest and brightest room in the apartment. It is here that they usually gather feasts, arrange family evenings with movies and board games, put up a New Year tree and much more.

That is why it is important to use the space available in the living room rationally. Options for using a balcony in this case:

It is better to make windows on the balcony either from all three sides, or panoramic, so that the room is as illuminated as possible. As for the very exit to the balcony, you should think about the extended version.

Arches look most impressive in living rooms. Here you can safely experiment with shape, color and material.

The best solution is to play on contrasts, for example, when the inner part of the arch is made in dark colors, its outer part matches the walls, and the window sill smoothly transitions to the floors.

Kitchen

Another most visited place in the apartment by all family members is the kitchen. As a rule, in Russian apartments this same space becomes a dining room. Ergonomics and comfort are paramount in this case.

It is for the kitchen that it makes sense to demolish the balcony block in whole or in part. The freed space can be used as follows:

Since the kitchens in typical houses are not large, it is worth considering the maximum freeing up space in the aisle here. For this purpose, an exit to a balcony with sliding doors, or even a demolished balcony block, is suitable.

In this case, the color scheme should not be too monotonous-light. You can choose white wall decoration, bright accents in furniture or spectacular photo wallpapers. But it’s better not to single out the arch or doors to the balcony in any way - a harmonious combination with walls and floors will balance the space and make it visually whole.

Bedroom

The most cozy and comfortable place in the apartment should be the bedroom. It is here that you can relax, take a break from a hard day's work, do your favorite things. The last point often involves the availability of free space or workspace for a hobby. And the balcony in this case becomes a big plus.

Arch with mirror effect

So, ideas for designing a bedroom with a balcony:

You can decorate the exit to the balcony in the bedroom with both arches and doors. But if the apartment is located on one of the ground floors, it is worth considering that what is happening inside the room is not visible from the outside - panoramic glazing should be with a mirror surface.

Children's room

Drawing up a design project for a children's room is always an exciting experience. Here you can show all your imagination and ingenuity, find the most unusual forms and solutions.

It seems to many parents a dangerous undertaking, but in vain! If you correctly repair the floors, insulate and isolate the room, install windows with a child protection system, there is nothing to be afraid of. On the contrary, the balcony can be a great place for children's activities.

Here are some original ideas:

  • playroom on the balcony. To take out all the toys, musical instruments, a table for creativity and even sports equipment on the balcony - every mother dreams of this, especially if the nursery is very small or designed for several children;
  • the completely opposite option is a bed for a child on the balcony. This is ideal for the first time, since the bed will be small in any case, and the room will free up space for games and activities;
  • the balcony combined with the room, the entrance to which is made in the form of an arch, can be converted into a small children's secret room, decorated in your favorite theme;
  • another example of using a combined balcony is to build an arena for a baby on its territory.

For one-room apartments where families with a small child live, a balcony can also be a real salvation. A crib taken out of the room will help to accustom the baby to falling asleep alone, but at the same time, parents will always know what is happening to him.

How to choose curtains for a balcony

Here the curtains perform a decorative function.

Whatever beautiful doors or an original arch you choose to decorate an exit to a balcony or loggia, endless sunlight during the day and harsh glare from street lamps at night can be a problem. This is especially true for bedrooms.

The classic solution to the problem is to hang curtains or curtains in front of the balcony. The most successful options:

When choosing curtains for access to the balcony, you should always remember that the curtain should not interfere with the opening and closing of the door.

So, having carefully considered the purpose of a room with a balcony or loggia adjacent to it, having carried out a high-quality renovation of the premises and choosing the best option for the passage between them, you can significantly improve the layout of the apartment. A well-chosen interior design and curtains will make any room with a balcony cozy and ergonomic.

The arch to the balcony is a great option to decorate the entrance opening of the insulated balcony. Such a design can radically change the interior design, giving it a unique elegance, as well as visually expand the interior space due to the smooth curvature of the opening lines and the absence of a visual restriction in the form of an entrance balcony group.

It seems to many that the creation of balcony arches with their own hands is a very difficult matter. In fact, any home master who knows how to hold a tool in his hands can cope with such a task. All that is required for this is accuracy and the desire to create a truly unique apartment design with your own hands.

Arched structures today have become a very popular architectural element of our apartments. In the form of arches, interior doorways and even entrance groups are made. The material for this design is mainly drywall, plastic sheets and panels, as well as wood (or chipboard, MDF).

The most democratic of them is gypsum plasterboard (GKL). It is quite simple to process and at the same time affordable. With the help of drywall, you can create almost any interior elements, from complex ceilings to interior partitions. It is also best to decorate a balcony opening in the form of an arch with the help of GKL sheets.

Balcony arches are built only if you want to create a single living space by combining an insulated balcony and interior rooms.

First of all, preparatory work should be carried out - it will be necessary to dismantle the balcony entrance group.

At the same time, we remove windows and doors along with window and door blocks.

It should be remembered that dismantling capital wall structures is strictly prohibited by the rules for operating a residential building. Therefore, removing the window sill brick wall or trying to expand the balcony opening is highly discouraged due to possible problems with the managing organization.

Despite such prohibitions, you still should not be upset - the capital elements can be quite organically fit into the design of the future arched opening.

So the window sill space can play the role of a countertop or a bar counter, and the side walls can be designed in the form of columns or pilasters.

The next step is to begin the construction of the elements of the arched structure from drywall. To work, we need the following tools:

  • perforator;
  • hammer;
  • stationery knife;
  • jigsaw;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • grinder or scissors for metal.

For the manufacture of the main arched elements - semicircles, we measure the balcony opening, its height and width. The design of the arch can be different: pointed, rounded and elliptical.

The easiest way is to build a round arch with your own hands, so let's focus on this option.

When designing, it should be taken into account that the arched structure will lower the opening by at least 10 -15 cm. Therefore, if its height is less than 2 m, then it is better to refuse the arch in this case.

For the manufacture of semicircles, we take wall drywall with a thickness of 12 mm, and we make the internal elements connecting the semicircles and closing the cavity between them from a special “arched” plasterboard. It has a thickness of only 6 mm and bends better than wall.

In order to cut a semicircle from a sheet of gypsum, we measure the width of the opening and divide it in half. Then we take a sheet of wall plasterboard and mark its middle. In the middle of the sheet, stepping back a couple of centimeters from the edge, we twist the self-tapping screw. At one end, we attach a piece of twine to the self-tapping screw, 0.5 times the width of the balcony opening, and tie a pencil to its other end. Holding the twine tight, draw a semicircle on the sheet with a pencil.

In the same way, we mark the second part on another sheet. Using a jigsaw, we cut out the curvilinear blanks of the future arch.

Then we measure the thickness of the wall in the balcony opening and cut out the inner strips from the arched drywall.

To do this, we use standard frame profiles for GKL sheets. First, we attach the wall profile to the wall on both sides. Using a grinder or metal scissors, we cut the guide profiles of the desired length and fasten them with dowels along the perimeter of the opening in two threads along both edges.

We attach the prepared segments of the supporting element to the guide profile, to which the plasterboard arch blanks will be attached. For a detailed process of installing a drywall arch, see this video:

When constructing the frame, the dimensions must be strictly observed so that the plaster parts lie exactly as planned.

After mounting the frame, we proceed to the installation of gypsum structural elements. Using self-tapping screws, we fasten semicircular blanks to the frame elements on both sides. After that, using a strip of bending arched drywall, we sew up the inner space of the arch. For professional arch installation tips, see this video:

As a result, we get an arched opening, which remains only to be brought to mind - to putty cracks and joints, paint, paste over with decorative elements or perform other work that the planned interior design will require.

A cluttered balcony with an incomprehensible arrangement and a complete set of items. The very one where you could find an unnecessary fishing rod, a ski stick, and one, complete with one ski track, as well as a set of old cans, an incomprehensible kind of preservation, old pots, pots and other things. It's all in the past. Although even now you can find such an awkward use of space, but this is more the exception than the rule. Today, everyone is trying to organize their balcony or loggia as comfortably as possible, to provide comfort, some of the space makes the continuation of the room. At the same time, the partition serves as an excellent way to separate the zones of the room.

And here another question arises. How to arrange an opening so that everything looks attractive, organic, but the main thing is that there is no narrow opening that no longer has a door, but is not finished with comfort. Here is the salvation of a balcony with an arch. This is an excellent solution that allows you to realize a lot of different ideas with an entrance or finish a balcony as a separate area in the continuation of the room.

We connect the room with a balcony using an arch

Then let's look at the photo of the arches on the balcony, choose the appropriate option and analyze the possible configurations to create a comfortable and unusual interior.

In order to make it easier to understand, ideally it is better to break the possibility of installing an arch into the position of a balcony in relation to an apartment. This way it will be easier not to get confused. Consider how the arch on the balcony block will look like if it is located separately or if redevelopment work has already been done and the balcony is a continuation of the room.

A balcony or loggia separated from the apartment by a window block with a door is a more difficult option for installing an arch. After all, the door must be located to prevent the ingress of cold, but at the same time I want everything to be beautifully and individually decorated. In this case, you need to decide on the door and window block. If we are talking about the standard option - a large window and one side door - this is one example.

But there are also different modifications of the balcony window with a door. For example, these can be sliding solid glass doors, or they can be located in the middle of a fully glazed window. These are the points to consider as well.

To begin with, let's take the location standard that can be seen in most apartments and see how to organize an arch with your own hands. First you need to decide where it will be located: either exclusively above the door, or above the entire block. Above the door, you can use several options. But it will be important to choose the right door. If you want to install an arch, but the design of the walls and ceiling does not allow you to do this, then you need to change the doors or fill the resulting space with something from the top edge of the door to the vault. Although, on the other hand, this can be done using plexiglass, painting it, for example, with stained glass paints. It will be very individual and unusual.

In order to do this, you need to follow several steps. The first is to remove the balcony door. And you have to do it with a box. The second is to make a vault at the required height. For example, 40-50 cm above the door. This can be done with a mortar or with a crate. But in this case, the structure will need to be built in such a way that the profiles are not noticeable when organizing the decorative part. For the arch with your own hands, you can use any of the suitable materials: PVC, MDF and so on.

The second question is when the arch is needed completely over the entire part of the window. In this case, it is enough to make an arch using a metal profile, which will protrude slightly above the window. A simple example: if there is a window sill, it will be at its level. The main frame is also best made from a metal profile. Do it yourself - it's easy. First, the main guide is screwed along the wall, after which the rest of the parts. The result is a stable frame that can be covered with plasterboard or panels, it is also convenient to place spotlights there, which will create an unusual effect and increase the space.

Another layout configuration is a connected balcony. In this case, you can make not only an arch, but use a window opening, say, to organize a table, shelves and other things useful in the interior. It is better not to knock it out, namely to remove the frame and make a beautiful arch. And here there are two options: you can buy ready-made, made of wood, wood products, polymer, install it yourself; and you can also make a frame, use drywall, after a decorative finish. But in this case, much more can be done in terms of aesthetics. For example, use bas-reliefs, modeling. In this case, the interior will blossom in a completely different way. For example, a wooden arch would be inappropriate for the Baroque style. But stucco with gold or bronze edging - to the very point. Therefore, choosing the appropriate way to organize the arch is based on the needs, as well as the direction in the interior. But, for example, a wooden arch is ideal for modern or country. Where the presence of this material is required.

The layout of almost every apartment in a multi-storey building suggests the presence of a balcony, or loggia. And these are additional square meters that can be useful.

There are many options for using this apartment space - converting it into a room (pantry, dressing room, office), or combining it with one of the living quarters in the apartment. But in order for the attached space to harmoniously fit into the overall interior, you should consider how to arrange an exit to the balcony. We will consider this topic in this article.

Features of the design of the exit to the balcony

To create a harmonious design, every little thing is important: from surface finishing, to window curtains and, of course, the design of doorways.

The exit to the balcony is an interior opening that performs two functions:

  • functional - separates the street part of the apartment;
  • aesthetic - is an element of the interior of the room.

How to properly arrange an exit to the loggia? The arrangement of this element of the interior may include:

  • door installation;
  • installation of the nut;
  • opening design.
Remember: any re-equipment of the balcony associated with a change in the design of the premises must be coordinated with the BTI authorities.

Types of exits to the balcony, their role in the interior

There are several ways to decorate a balcony opening. Let's consider them in more detail.

Door installation

If the loggia space will be used as a separate room, then it is best to protect the entrance to it with a door. For these purposes, a balcony block is used, consisting of a window and a door. It can be made of wood, or metal-plastic, and equipped with a double-glazed window.

Advice: the metal-plastic door has increased heat and noise insulation properties.

Glazing the exit to the balcony with a metal-plastic structure will provide warmth and comfort in the room

To expand the entrance to the apartment space, you can install a double door for the entire opening. This will allow more sunlight into the room. But to install such a door, it is necessary to expand the balcony opening.

On a note: one of the wings of such a door can be tilt-and-turn for convenient ventilation of the room.

Glazed exit from the room to the loggia offers a wonderful view of the area

You can combine a living room or kitchen with a balcony, while saving space, by installing a sliding door or an accordion. The sliding compartment door can be either completely glass, so it creates the effect of "French windows".

The use of sliding glazing systems - French exit to the balcony, photo

An accordion door is most often made of plastic panels and works on the principle of blinds. It is ideal for fencing large openings.

Please note: since the accordion door is not airtight, the balcony must be insulated before installing it.

Arch

There are design options for accessing the balcony that do not involve the installation of dividing elements - for example, an arch. Removing the old window-door block and window sill makes it possible to give this entrance area a new shape. The arch between the room and the loggia has an interesting shape, which adds originality to the room.

Clapboard decoration, an example of the design of the arch to the balcony, photo

The arch separating the loggia and the room does not have to be a classic semi-oval shape. Asymmetry and interesting solutions in interior design are at the peak of popularity now. So the arch can have built-in shelves, niches.

Photo arches on the loggia of an unusual shape

Another option to diversify the balcony opening is to install a bar counter in the arch. To do this, you do not even have to dismantle the window sill. Installing a bar counter in the arch would be appropriate for decorating the exit to the loggia from the kitchen or living room.

Installing a bar counter in an arch is not only beautiful, but also functional

Decorating the exit to the balcony with textiles

If the loggia is connected to the room with an arch, or a simple opening, you can create an additional fence made of curtains or tulle. An interesting solution would be to use decorative curtains made of beads.

Outcome

There are several ways to design an exit to the balcony - a door, an arch, curtains. Some options can be translated into reality without the use of expensive materials and time-consuming repairs. The main thing is that the design idea should be implemented in accordance with all safety standards, look harmonious and be functional.

The choice of material for arches

Arches are made of plasterboard

Arched structures today have become a very popular architectural element of our apartments. In the form of arches, interior doorways and even entrance groups are made. The material for this design is mainly drywall, plastic sheets and panels, as well as wood (or chipboard, MDF).

The most democratic of them is gypsum plasterboard (GKL). It is quite simple to process and at the same time affordable. With the help of drywall, you can create almost any interior elements, from complex ceilings to interior partitions. It is also best to decorate a balcony opening in the form of an arch with the help of GKL sheets.

Opening preparation

Before installing the arch, it is necessary to dismantle the entire window unit along with the door

Despite such prohibitions, you still should not be upset - the capital elements can be quite organically entered into the design of the future arched opening.

So the window sill space can play the role of a countertop or a bar counter, and the side walls can be designed in the form of columns or pilasters.

Necessary tools

The next step is to begin the construction of the elements of the arched structure from drywall. To work, we need the following tools:

  • perforator;
  • hammer;
  • stationery knife;
  • jigsaw;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;

Manufacturing of structural elements

12 mm drywall is suitable for arranging the arch

Frame installation

Drywall sheets are mounted on a profile

To do this, we use standard frame profiles for GKL sheets. First, we attach the wall profile to the wall on both sides. Using a grinder or metal scissors, we cut the guide profiles of the desired length and fasten them with dowels along the perimeter of the opening in two threads along both edges.

We attach the prepared segments of the supporting element to the guide profile, to which the plasterboard arch blanks will be attached. For a detailed process of installing a drywall arch, see this video:

When constructing the frame, the dimensions must be strictly observed so that the plaster parts lie exactly as planned.

Drywall fixing and finishing work
