Laundry basket from a box and fabric. How to make a beautiful DIY laundry basket

The laundry basket is both a stylish and useful bathroom accessory. However, the stores offer a rather narrow range of this product. A handmade basket will have a unique design and will fit perfectly into a particular interior. Store options are expensive, and you can make it yourself almost for free.

Laundry basket from newspaper tubes

With the help of newspaper weaving, not only baskets are made, but also vases, boxes, caskets, etc.

You will need:

  • newspapers;
  • PVA glue;
  • knitting needle;
  • ruler;

Step-by-step instruction

Newspaper sheets are cut into strips 8 cm wide, which are wound onto a knitting needle at an acute angle, and the angle at the end of the twist is fixed with glue.

It is important to control that the thickness of the ends of the tubes is different, this will allow them to be connected together by inserting the thin end into the wide hole. More than 35 tubes 0.5 meters long are needed, but it all depends on the volume of the basket.

weaving process

Weaving starts from the bottom of the basket:

  1. 10 blanks are taken.
  2. 5 tubes are placed in parallel, they adhere to the ruler and bend through one.
  3. Glue is applied to the bottom and fixed.
  4. The action is repeated.

One of the corner tubes turns in a circle and intertwines with 5 elements.

When the bottom has reached the desired size, the tubes are raised (if necessary, their length is increased) and a base is inserted around which weaving will be done, for example, a basket or a plastic bucket.

The base is braided to the top. Then the edge is decorated: the vertical tubes are bent inward and fixed with PVA glue. The basket is varnished or oil-based stain.

If you paint the newspaper before weaving, the basket will have a more attractive appearance.

Fabric basket

It is easy to decorate, for this you can use various paints, beads, sequins.

To make a basket with a height of 55 cm and a diameter of 31 cm, you will need:

  • metal mesh netting - 110 cm;
  • dark fabric;
  • light-colored fabric;
  • cardboard 32 x 32 cm;
  • sewing machine;
  • thread and needle;
  • wire cutters or scissors for metal;
  • wire;
  • pliers;
  • scissors;
  • tailor's needles;
  • simple pencil;
  • construction gloves.

Manufacturing steps

At this point, gloves should be worn to protect against cuts.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Using scissors for metal, a piece of mesh of a suitable size is cut off.
  2. The edges are overlapped. Using pliers, the frame is twisted with wire.

Cover tailoring

A piece of coarse linen fabric in taupe or any other color is needed.

Work algorithm:

  1. The fabric is folded in half with the right side inside and sewn.

2. A circle with a diameter of 32 cm is cut out of the fabric of the same color.

3. The circle and the fabric blank are folded with their right sides to each other and sewn together.

4. The resulting cover is put on the mesh. The top edge folds into the basket.

5. The same cover is made, but from a white fabric, placed inside the basket inside out. The top folds out.

Cover making

For the basis of the cover, corrugated cardboard, a substrate for a laminate or thin plastic are used.

How to sew a cover:

  1. A circle with a diameter of 32 cm and two circles of white fabric with a diameter of 34 cm are cut out of cardboard.
  2. 2 A strip of 25 by 10 cm is cut out of light fabric, from which a handle for the lid is sewn. It is folded across with the front side inward and sewn, the circle is turned inside out and ironed.
  3. The workpiece is bent and steamed with an iron.
  4. The handle is sewn to a circle of fabric exactly in the center.
  5. Round blanks for the lid are folded right sides and sewn halfway. A cardboard disc is inserted inside. The remaining part is sewn up with a "hidden" seam.

Finishedthe basket can be decorated with an inscription or a pattern with acrylic paints on fabric.

Laundry basket out of the box

You can make a laundry basket with your own hands not only from newspaper tubes, but also from cardboard. It will take less time than weaving.

Necessary materials:

  • appropriate size cardboard box;
  • vinyl wallpapers;
  • fabric, thread and needles;
  • scissors and stationery knife;
  • linen cord;
  • wallpaper glue or PVA;
  • Super glue;
  • hot glue gun;
  • decorative metal hinges.

Operating procedure

The top sides of the box are cut off. With the help of a piece of cardboard, the bottom of the box is strengthened.

Decoration:

  1. As a decor, a round linen cord is used, which is wrapped around the basket and glued with hot glue every 10 cm. You can also decorate with wallpaper, combining them with a rope.
  2. The length of the wallpaper is measured so that it completely wraps around the box and there is only one joint. The wallpaper is well smeared with glue, applied and smoothed with a roller to remove air bubbles.
  3. For the lid of the basket, a piece of cardboard of a suitable size is taken. Covered with wallpaper on both sides.
  4. The handle is made from clothesline. Two through holes are made in the lid, a rope is pulled through them, knots are tied at the ends.
  5. The lid is attached to the laundry basket with metal hinges.

Making a laundry basket from wood

Required:

  • plywood 10 mm;
  • wooden slats with a section of 20 x 10 mm;
  • jigsaw;
  • wood glue;
  • glossy varnish;
  • self-tapping screws 32 mm long;
  • self-tapping screws 50 mm long;
  • drill;
  • drill;
  • sandpaper of different grain sizes;
  • brass hinges;
  • screwdriver;
  • clamps.

Step-by-step instruction

Dimensions are applied to plywood. With the help of a jigsaw, the details are cut out.

The cut is leveled with sandpaper and the edge is processed. Details are glued together with carpentry glue and twisted with self-tapping screws. For twisting the side walls, 32 mm self-tapping screws are used. The bottom is screwed with self-tapping screws 50 mm long.

For decor, wooden slats are used. They end at an angle of 45 degrees, glued to the bottom and top of the box. Clamped with clamps.

The lid is attached to the box with brass hinges.

After assembly and complete drying of the glue, the box is sanded and varnished in two layers.

A handmade laundry basket looks much prettier than a store-bought one. Such a homemade product is not ashamed to complement the interior of the bathroom.

Despite the latest technologies for the manufacture of household items and their variety on the shelves of supermarkets, hand-made products are considered the most valuable.

They fully meet the tastes of their owners or manufacturers, but most importantly, they are made independently, with soul and love.

For example, a do-it-yourself laundry basket is a handy household item that allows you to store used or clean items in one place.

Many admirers of modern culture believe that needlework takes a lot of time, and the result of their own work is inferior in quality to purchased items.

Why sew curtains with your own hands, if you can buy beautiful finished products for every taste in the store? It seems to them that self-made interior items and accessories look out of place and out of date.

Woven rugs, knitted tablecloths, a wire lampshade, embroidered napkins - all this is in the past, now it is much more profitable to purchase a quality item in finished form.

Surprisingly, these fabulously elegant, openwork table lamps are handmade using simple items: jars, a roll of lace, scissors, thread and a needle.

This is a rather controversial opinion, because hand-made products have long become not only necessary, but also fashionable. Well-known designers produce collections of man-made masterpieces, the cost of which is much higher than factory counterparts.

"Grandma's" knitted sweaters have become a stylish wardrobe item for urban fashionistas, and hand-made congratulatory albums have become a sign of luxury and special attention.

If you replace the plastic box for linen with a hand-made basket, the bathroom interior will only benefit - it will become more comfortable and warm at home.

Self-woven baskets for household utensils can not only decorate the interior, but also save usable floor space: a set of products is placed on the wall using a railing system

Consider how, using improvised materials and simple skills, you can create a beautiful and useful product for home use.

Hand-made laundry baskets: 3 master classes

To make a linen basket with your own hands, expensive or rare materials will not be required, everything that is at hand will fit.

Pieces of fabric, wooden sticks, pieces of rope, old oilcloth - all this can be found at home or purchased by spending a minimum of money.

Our task is to make a necessary and stylish accessory for everyday use out of ordinary, seemingly useless things.

From newspaper tubes

With the help of newspaper weaving, you can create vases, baskets, boxes, caskets and other useful items for storing smaller items.

To make a basket, you will need a stack of newspapers, scissors, PVA glue, a ruler, a long knitting needle, a shape and varnish. Let's make the bottom first.

We cut newspaper sheets into wide strips 7 cm wide, which we wind on a thin knitting needle at an angle of 30º, and fix the corner at the end with glue

We make sure that the ends are of different thicknesses, and the tube itself turns out to be dense and elastic. The number of tubes depends on the volume of the basket, but in any case there should be a lot of them. From short blanks we make long ones: we insert one tube into another and fix it with glue.

The weaving process is as follows: we take 10 parts (5 perpendicular to 5), put the first 5 in parallel, bend it through one with a ruler, drip glue on the lower elements and fix one of the remaining tubes, and so on all 5

When the weaving of 10 tubes is over, we turn one of the corner tubes in a circle - we intertwine with 5 elements.

One by one, in order, we bend all the tubes, each of which is intertwined with 5 of the same elements. As a result, the bottom of the basket should be round or oval.

Having finished the bottom, we lift the axis tubes up (if necessary, increase the length) and insert the base inside, around which we will continue weaving, for example, a plastic bucket.

Going around the base, we continue to weave in a circle to the very top. At the end, it is necessary to draw an edge: we bend the tubes inward and fix them between other elements

Having finished weaving, we apply a layer of PVA glue to the surface of the basket to increase the strength and stability of the product.

To make the finished product attractive, we cover it with a stain of a pleasant shade or varnish.

If newspaper tubes are pre-painted, the result can become even more striking: such a basket can be used both for laundry and as a fruit vase or flower pot

Fabric on a wooden frame

A beautiful foldable basket made of bright textiles is suitable for both used linen and clean clothes prepared for ironing.

The main material of manufacture is wooden slats and a large piece of bright fabric, cotton, but with synthetic thread for strength.

Experiment with the dimensions of the finished product and keep in mind that its empty version does not require much space, since the basket can be folded in one motion and put away in a closet or on a shelf.

The basis of the man-made model is assembled from wooden and plastic elements.

We will need four narrow rails of 0.6 m each, two plastic, metal or wooden tubes of 0.4 m each and two similar tubes of 0.36 m each

Mounting material: 8 bolts for fixing the tubes, 2 large bolts with nuts for connecting the rails.

The slats must be sanded and, if desired, coated with paint or varnish, and the tubes must be processed so that the ends are safe.

As a result of the assembly, you will get a comfortable stable design, which can be easily turned into a laundry basket and a camping table.

Having prepared the frame, we move on to the fabric part. When stitched, it will resemble a large bag.

First you need to sew large parts, as shown in the picture. The product will be more interesting if the front and back parts are cut from different materials.

Use a simple machine stitch to join large pieces of fabric. If the canvas is two-layer, try to hide the seams inside.

Do not forget to sew narrow strips of fabric into the seams of the bottom (bottom of the basket) - they will fix the structure from below. They can be replaced with ready-made ribbons, ribbons or straps.

Instead of a machine seam, you can use a manual one, but the first option is more reliable.

Whether or not the edge needs to be finished depends on the type of fabric. If the material does not unravel, you can leave it as it is in the picture - in a two-layer model, all seams are hidden inside

If you have been familiar with the art of sewing on a typewriter since childhood, there will be no problems with creating a relatively simple design, the rest will have to turn to the training video or literature

Try to sew all the details neatly and evenly so that the lines of the corners are straight, the opposite parts are the same in size and parallel

Lastly, we decorate the edges with a beautiful braid and sew on buttons.

Beautiful decorative details on the buttons, reminiscent of pockets, are not only an ornament, but also the main fixing element of the basket on the frame

By unfastening the buttons and bottom straps, the fabric "bag" can be removed from the frame and washed.

This is what the folded basket looks like. It is easy to place in a pantry, closet, on a shelf or in the trunk of a car. Plus, it can be folded with a small amount of laundry.

On a plastic frame

We offer two interesting solutions, the advantages of which are in a minimum of material and time for implementation. And the result exceeds all expectations!

From clothesline

In front of you is a beautiful and stylish basket for linen, shoes or household items. It looks like it was purchased in a fashion boutique, but in fact everything is much simpler.

Consider how to make a convenient compact laundry basket with your own hands from a small plastic mold - a ready-made analogue of factory production or even a trash basket.

We buy the basis of the product in a household or stationery store, large plastic boxes or boxes are also sold there, if the round shape does not suit

To make it easier to work, turn the form upside down.

We wind the rope from the bottom up to the very bottom. Using a special glue gun or brush, we apply PVA glue to the rope and press it to the plastic (through each centimeter or the entire length), and where it is not there, to the previous skein

As a result, the plastic form is completely covered with a rope on the outside, only the upper part is on the inside.

The color of the basket is a matter of the designer's taste. You can use a rope of one shade, two (as in this picture) or create a bright, multi-colored model (for example, for toys in a nursery)

One of the main advantages of self-made things is versatility.

By choosing colors to match the interior of a bathroom or other room, you will receive a wonderful designer accessory for storing household trifles, which costs at least 1000 rubles in a boutique, and will cost you 200-250 rubles.

Another option in the video:

Made of textile and decorative cord

The next model will require the same materials, plus a piece of durable textile - to finish the inner surface.

First, we make a pattern in a very simple way - we roll the basket over a sheet of paper (wallpaper) and draw a contour, we prepare the part for the bottom in the same way

We transfer the contours of the pattern to the material and cut out the finished pieces with scissors: we got two textile parts - for finishing the walls and bottom.

Do not forget to leave a margin on the fabric fragments for seams and so that a large piece can be wrapped around the neck and glued

We put the finished “bag” inside the plastic basket so that its “bottom” is strictly in the center, and we fix the edges by turning them from the outside and gluing them around the circumference.

Our basket is almost ready, it remains to decorate the outer surface. To do this, take a decorative cord or rope, and follow the steps described in the previous instructions.

The color of the cord depends on the interior and your mood.

It turned out to be a very comfortable and stylish basket. To diversify the design of the product, you can attach rope handles, pockets, or use an appliqué as a decoration.

Linen baskets in interior design

Although a laundry basket made by ourselves will meet our aesthetic needs as much as possible and serve as an interior decoration, we should not forget about its purpose.

Its functionality lies in the storage, less often - the transportation of small-sized things: household items, clothes, shoes, bed linen, small things needed in the household.

Therefore, it is logical if your model will be in the wardrobe.

A wicker or fabric-decorated basket will successfully fit into the interior of the dressing room or will fit comfortably on one of the shelves of an ordinary wardrobe

When creating a model for a specific room, do not forget about style.

For example, for a modern classic setting, a strict product without unnecessary decorations is suitable, for a romantic one - with bows, flowers or ribbon ornaments.

The bright color of the walls is the perfect backdrop for a homemade wicker basket or willow-style painted newspaper tubes.

We can experiment with the shape and size of handmade products, adjust them to the height of the shelves in the bathroom or the width of the racks in the closet.

A set of baskets of different sizes is a real treasure for the bathroom. They can store towels, cleaning and hygiene products, washing accessories

Harmony is beautiful in everything, and even in bathroom accessories. The same fabric, and in this case oilcloth, can be used to make curtains and baskets.

The photo shows an example of how additional accessories create the style of the entire room. If you replace the colorful padding with a solid pastel shade, the dynamics will disappear and you will get a more calm, classic setting.

Baskets are also good because they can be easily placed in places that are most often not used and “idle” idle.

These are the corners of the bathroom, the space between the bathtub and the floor, a small area under the sink - as in the next photo.

It's amazing how many useful little things can fit in one small basket! Before us is a great example of the successful use of a small "patch" under the sink for washing.

As you can see, simple household items can be done independently.

A little of your imagination, a drop of free time - and an exclusive man-made masterpiece is ready, which is not a shame to decorate the house and give friends!

A cozy home is a home filled with beautiful little things. These are handmade things that decorate the space, emphasize the atmosphere, set accents. WE MAKE A BASKET FOR LINEN WITH OWN HANDS.

The age-old question of our housewives is where to put dirty linen before washing it? If you, like me, are not satisfied with the option of storing things in basins under the bathroom, I propose to build such a practical thing. How to make a laundry basket with your own hands? It turns out it's very simple. One of the easiest master classes is in front of you!

A laundry basket in the bathroom will consist of just a few details. Here they are: a garden metal mesh (70 cm high), a wooden circle for the bottom, four wheels and attachments with screws to them. Of the tools, only pliers and a screwdriver are useful. Strong fabric and cord are suitable for interior decoration of the basket.

First you need to lay out the materials in front of you. The mesh must be chosen so long that it can wrap a circle once. Well, for the basis for the basket, you can use a seat from a wooden stool or a large wooden pizza stand. When everything is ready, lay a wooden circle on the floor and wrap it with a net. Excess mesh must be cut with pliers or other tools.

The mesh is very easy to fasten: metal twigs need to be wrapped with pliers around the twigs on the other side of the mesh. In this case, you should check that the fastening is reliable (that is, the mesh must be tightly fixed).

Under the bottom, the mesh must be wrapped, bending the ends of the mesh to the center.

Now you need to fix the grid at the bottom of the basket. The bent edges of the grid form squares, which must be pressed against the wooden bottom with screws. We fasten the screw with the nut, fixing the mesh rod. The same must be done a few more times around the perimeter of the bottom. It turns out 7-8 screws.

If you want the basket to be rearranged, make it manoeuvrable with small wheels. To do this, four wheels must be evenly placed around the perimeter of the bottom and screwed on. Wheels, of course, are better to choose those that spin not only in two directions, but also around their axis.

This is how the base of the basket turns out: a mesh with a bottom on wheels.

A do-it-yourself laundry basket is already quite functional. But in order to create not only a piece of furniture, but also its decoration, you need to make an inner cover for the basket. It is better to sew it from a dense fabric like burlap or mattress fabric. Measure the height of the basket, then the radius of the bottom and cut out a suitable fabric cover. At the top of the cover, you can make a cord fastener that would tighten the basket bag. Also, for beauty, you can unscrew the top edge of the bag so that it covers the ends of the frame rods.

A bathroom basket is a fairly simple and practical craft! Make this and your bathroom will take on new life!

Today we will tell you how to make a folding laundry basket with your own hands. This is a very handy bathroom accessory that can store both clean towels for the whole family and dirty laundry while waiting for washing. This functional box is assembled from the simplest materials, and even a novice master can make his pattern.

In this article you will find step-by-step instructions for making a universal craft and useful tips. This will help you make a laundry basket in a short time and with minimal time and effort. Choose bright materials, vary sizes according to the available space in your bathroom and the amount of laundry you usually store.

By the way, a homemade laundry basket can also serve as a box for your child's toys, as well as a great place to store various newspapers, magazines, ornamental fabrics or balls. Some also use laundry baskets not in the bathroom, but in the hallway - they fold the scarves, hats and mittens of the whole family.

What will we need?

  • 2 slats (35-40 cm)
  • 2 slats (2 cm shorter than the previous ones)
  • 4 wooden beams (60-65 cm long, 2-3 cm thick)
  • screws, bolts, nuts
  • fabric size 130 * 100 (more / less - depending on the parameters of the basket)

How to make a basket?

The basket frame is assembled according to the drawing. First you need to assemble one of the frames. We take two larger slats and two beams, fasten them together with self-tapping screws.

Then we collect another frame - a smaller one. We repeat the procedure. Then we cross the frames with each other and fasten them in the center with bolts.

We do this so that the frames can move freely.

Let's start sewing a rag basket. First you need to make a pattern, taking into account the dimensions in this diagram.

We make a pattern: the bottom and two side faces. We sew the parts together or make the pattern immediately whole.

We also need to sew on straps. On the sides we sew two more side edges of the laundry basket. Details must be sewn with sewing seams on a typewriter.

So that the box hangs freely on the beams, and so that you can always remove it and wash it, we sew buttons to the protruding parts.
