1696 - 320 years ago, a letter was sent from Moscow to the Verkhoturye governor Dmitry Protasyev, ordering: “...in the Verkhoturye district to inspect where there is a magnet stone.”
The search began for “the best magnet stone and good iron ore.” On January 23, 1697, the governor wrote to Moscow that a “magnet stone” was found near Mount Magnit (later Vysokaya), and iron ore was found four miles along the Neiva River. Samples of minerals were sent to Amsterdam and Riga, where they were highly appreciated.

1746 - 270 years of the Tagil craft of varnish painting on metal.
In the seventies of the 18th century, the art of painting achieved great fame. By the end of the century, Nizhny Tagil painters had developed the basics of subject and flower paintings, combined with a variety of tray shapes: round, rectangular, oval, multifaceted, framed with colorful edges. The quality of the products was enhanced by the transparent “crystal” varnish, which has enviable durability and shine. In the 19th century, among the numerous handicraft industries of the city, tray fishing was in second place in terms of the number of people employed in it. In the 20–30s of the 20th century, metalworking cooperatives were engaged in the manufacture of trays. Currently, special attention is paid to the revival and development of varnish painting on metal: festivals, exhibitions are held, the city competition named after the Khudoyarovs “Master of the Year in Decorative and Applied Arts” has been held since 1999.
