Dear readers, today I want to talk about one of the healthiest breakfasts we can afford. Have you heard of granola? Granola is the favorite breakfast of all Hollywood stars. But not only stars can use its beneficial properties, because preparing it is very simple.

The topic of breakfasts and healthy snacks is always very relevant. Especially for those who watch their figure and care about their health. Instead of scrambled eggs, sandwiches and the usual porridge, you can cook something more creative, tasty and healthy. And today we’ll talk about what granola is and how it can be prepared at home using a variety of recipes, from classic to quite exotic.

What is granola

It's not just oatmeal, it's not just muesli, it's granola! This is a delicacy containing oatmeal, nuts, honey, sometimes rice and dried fruits. And all this is baked until crispy and golden brown. Just bake it in the oven once - and you will be provided with a healthy, tasty breakfast for the whole week. It’s probably hard to imagine more delicious and healthy food.

What is the difference between muesli and granola?

Many people think that muesli and granola are practically the same thing. And their compositions are really similar - they contain cereals, dried fruits, and seeds. The main difference is how they are prepared. Muesli contains whole grains, which are filled with water or milk, after which you can enjoy the meal. And granola includes several types of cereals and, in addition, is baked in the oven. Granola is higher in calories, as sunflower or other oil is added to it.

Why is granola so beneficial?

Due to the ingredients that make up granola, it turns out to be very nutritious, rich in useful substances and microelements. In addition, it contains almost no sugar.

  • Granola contains a large amount of vitamins and fiber;
  • when adding flax seeds, it perfectly improves digestion;
  • helps normalize metabolism;
  • due to the dietary fiber included in this delicacy, you can prevent and even get rid of constipation;
  • the benefits of all products included in the granola are preserved due to gentle heat treatment;
  • It prepares quickly, and the benefits are maximum;
  • Can be prepared for future use and used for quick snacks at work or on a trip.

Granola recipes

Let's consider a classic recipe for making granola at home, and starting from it, you can come up with an endless number of options and combinations of products and flavors for granola.

But first, some tips for preparing it:

  • For cooking, it is better to take regular weighed oat flakes. They have more benefits than instant cereals;
  • granola should be dried, not fried, so set the temperature to the minimum;
  • if you like other types of cereal, then you can take rice, buckwheat, wheat and any others to your taste;
  • It will be even more beneficial if you add sprouted grains of wheat, rye, and barley.

Classic granola recipe

Let's look at how to make classic granola at home.

Ingredients:

  • oatmeal – 2 cups;
  • any nuts - ½ cup (you can chop them);
  • brown sugar - 2 tbsp. l.;
  • raisins – 2-3 tbsp. l.;
  • honey - 2 tbsp. l.;
  • water – 1 tbsp. l.;
  • a pinch of salt;
  • vegetable oil – 2 tbsp. l.;
  • ground cinnamon, dried berries - optional.

While the oven is preheating to 150˚C, prepare a baking sheet. You need to cover it with parchment paper and lightly grease it with vegetable oil. Mix dry products immediately in a baking tray: oatmeal, nuts, raisins, sugar, salt.

Next, melt liquid products in a water bath: honey, oil, water. Then pour the hot syrup into the dry mixture on a baking sheet. Mix everything thoroughly. Place in the oven for 25-30 minutes, but remove and stir the mixture several times. This is necessary so that everything bakes evenly. Gradually reduce the temperature.

Remove the granola, cool slightly and add chopped dried berries. The mixture will be a little moist and soft at first, but will turn golden and crispy as it cools.

The perfect breakfast for Hollywood stars is ready. Granola can be eaten with milk and yogurt or made into bars.

Watch the video recipe for granola from Yulia Vysotskaya. As always, it is told accurately and clearly.

Now, based on the classic recipe, we will experiment and add other products to granola. Please note that there are no artificial additives in the recipes, everything is natural and not overly processed.

Apple diet granola

Here is one recipe for dietary granola with apples. While the oven is heating up to 150˚C, cover a baking sheet with paper greased with coconut oil (you can also use sunflower oil).

In one bowl, mix oatmeal, almonds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, goji berries, cinnamon, ground ginger and nutmeg. In another bowl there are liquid products: honey, applesauce, salt. Mix both mixtures together and place on a baking sheet. All you have to do is bake in the oven (20-30 minutes), and the apple granola is ready.

Jamie Oliver's Granola Recipe

We will talk about the recipe of the famous chef, who became famous for his cookbooks and television shows. And Jamie's recipe is not complicated at all.

As usual, preheat the oven. In a saucepan, combine half a cup each of maple syrup and peanut butter. Place the mixture on the fire and, stirring, heat to a boil for three minutes.

Separately mix flax, sunflower and pumpkin seeds (50 g each), oatmeal (50 g), cinnamon and ginger powder (0.5 tsp each). Place the liquid and dry mixtures on a parchment-lined baking sheet, mix and level. Place it in the oven for 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.

Cool the granola and add coconut flakes to taste. Serve with yogurt and blueberries.

Homemade granola with yogurt

The great thing about granola is that the composition can be changed depending on your preferences. Granola with yogurt is prepared according to the usual recipe. You can serve it beautifully by placing the prepared granola in portions in bowls. After that, fill it with natural yogurt, decorate it with fresh or dry berries and fruits and pour liquid honey.

Granola bars

This granola treat will undoubtedly please not only you, but also your children. The breakfast bar can be eaten in the morning for breakfast or taken with you to work or school. And you can also ask the children what they would like to add to the granola and cook it with them.

We begin to prepare it in the same way as classic granola, but with a slight amendment. When the dry mixture is browned in the oven, pour the liquid mixture of products into it, mix and place on parchment paper. We spread it in a layer of 1.5-2 cm, fold the edges of the paper and put a weight on top, for example a cutting board. Leave for 5-6 hours to soak.

When you unwrap and cut the granola into rectangles, you will get delicious and healthy breakfast bars.

I would call the next two recipes a little exotic, since one includes green buckwheat, and the other contains chia seeds.

Green buckwheat cocoa granola

Buckwheat remains green if it is not subjected to additional heat treatment, and, naturally, it retains most of the vitamins, which cannot be said about ordinary brown buckwheat, although it is also considered the “queen of cereals.”

Soak 2 cups with sunflower seeds for half an hour. Wash 15-20 dates, remove the pits and cut them. While the oven is heating, line a baking sheet with parchment and mix 3 tablespoons of honey, vegetable oil, cocoa, a pinch of salt, cinnamon and ginger in a bowl.

Wash the buckwheat and seeds and dry slightly. Heat the mixture in a bowl in a water bath until liquid and mix with dry products: buckwheat, seeds, coconut flakes (5 tbsp) and half of the dates. Spread the resulting mixture evenly on a baking sheet and bake for about half an hour. Cool the finished granola and decorate with the remaining dates.

Granola with chia seeds

Very useful as they contain a lot of calcium. When you add them to granola, it helps strengthen the body. Everything you would like to add to granola is mixed and prepared according to the classic recipe. Plus, you get an additional source of calcium.

Granola balls with coconut

Granola balls will look very nice. Prepare granola from oatmeal, nuts (almonds, walnuts), sesame seeds, coconut flakes, raisins and honey with sunflower oil. Bake in the oven and roll into balls while the granola is still warm. Roll in coconut and the balls are ready. Maybe these balls will remind someone of the Raffaello delicacy.

Raspberry parfait with granola

Raspberry flavor is always a reminder of summer. Prepare granola according to the classic recipe with the addition of your favorite products. Now let's prepare the raspberry mixture. Place 3 cups of fresh or frozen raspberries (you can add a few other berries) into a saucepan, add sugar to taste and vanilla on the tip of a knife. Boil the mixture for 5 minutes and beat with a blender. Now let's put everything beautifully in the bowls: yogurt on the bottom, then granola, berry sauce and put raspberries on top for decoration.

Cooking granola in a slow cooker

This recipe is suitable for those who like to cook in a slow cooker. Mix all dry products according to the classic recipe: nuts, cereal, raisins, poppy seeds, sesame seeds, cinnamon. But before putting it in the slow cooker, add vegetable oil and honey. Mix and place on the parchment-lined bottom of the bowl. Set the “Baking” mode for 40 minutes, but stir every 10 minutes.

Classic granola

Compound:

2 tbsp. oatmeal
1/3 tbsp. any chopped nuts
1/3 tbsp. sunflower seeds
1/3 tbsp. raisins
a handful of dried cranberries or cherries
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tbsp. honey or maple syrup
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. rast. oils
1 tbsp. water
2 tbsp. Sahara

Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 130-140 degrees. Mix cereal, sugar, salt, nuts in a bowl. Heat honey, water, cinnamon, vegetable oil over low heat until everything is mixed until smooth. Pour into dry ingredients and mix well. Grease a baking sheet with oil or line it with parchment paper and spread the entire mixture evenly over the baking sheet. Bake for half an hour, stirring occasionally (approximately every 10 minutes) with a spoon, then remove from the oven, add dried fruits and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool and place in a jar with a tight lid.
Serve with milk. Granola turns out crispy...

Apple granola

Compound:
3 tbsp. oatmeal
1/2 tbsp. chopped almonds
1/2 tbsp. sunflower seeds
1/6 tbsp. sesame
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 tbsp. (or less to taste) ground cinnamon
a pinch of salt
1 tbsp. applesauce
3-4 tbsp. honey
2 tbsp. olive oil

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 150 degrees. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl and all liquid ingredients in another bowl. And mix everything together until smooth. Spread in an even layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 35-40 minutes, stirring occasionally with a spoon. Cool.
This granola is good served with slices of fresh apple and yogurt, and for those who are fasting, with apple juice.

Granola balls
Well, or muesli sweets...

Compound:
1.5 tbsp. oatmeal
(they will need to be baked in the oven first, see the recipe for classic granola, but reduce the amount of honey and vegetable oil)
1/4 tbsp. sunflower seeds (I used pine nuts instead)
1/2 tbsp. dried apricots (about 10-12 pieces)
coconut flakes

Preparation:
Pour 100 ml of water into the dried apricots, bring to a boil and cook a little until they become soft (from 3 to 10 minutes). Remove the dried apricots from the water, mix with baked flakes and seeds and grind everything with a blender, adding a little decoction of the dried apricots. No need to add everything! The mass should be very thick, add just enough liquid so that you can form balls from it. Roll the balls in coconut flakes.

You can eat it right away, or you can put it in the refrigerator for a while so that the candy balls become a little denser. They are very tasty...

Granola bars (or Granola Bars)

Compound:
2.5 tbsp. oatmeal
1 tbsp. chopped nuts
0.5 tbsp. coconut flakes
5-6 tbsp. honey
3 tbsp. rast. oils
a pinch of salt, grated orange zest or cinnamon to taste
a handful of dried cranberries or cherries, raisins

Preparation:
Heat the oven to 175 degrees. Mix the cereal with the nuts and bake them for 10 minutes on a baking sheet. Remove from the oven, reduce temperature to 150. Heat honey, vegetable oil, salt, cinnamon (if using). Combine the baked oats with the dried fruit, coconut and wet ingredients (I transfer the oats from the baking sheet to a bowl to mix). Mix well until you get a sticky mass.

Distribute it over the baking sheet, compacting it well with a spoon to form a dense layer about 1 cm thick. It is not necessary to “stretch” the mass over the entire baking sheet; I only filled half of it. But it is very important to press and compact well, otherwise it will fall apart when cut.
Bake for 20-30 minutes. Cool completely and cut into bars. It is best to cut with a sharp large knife, with a sharp chopping motion.
