Russian Association of Teachers of Geography

Scientific and practical conference
ACTUAL PROBLEMS
GEOGRAPHICAL EDUCATION

ANAPA 2006

was held October 30 - November 4, 2006 in the Krasnodar Territory on the basis of school No. 6 in Anapa and school No. 2 in Ust-Labinsk.

The conference was organized by the Russian Association of Teachers of Geography. Great assistance in the organization was provided by the Department of General and Vocational Education of the Administration of the resort city of Anapa.

The main directions of the conference:

Geographical education in Russia: current state and development prospects.

The place and role of geography in the specialized school.

Computer technologies in modern geographical education: Russian and international experience.

Regional component in the content of geographical education.

The result of the conference was a resolution, the text of which is printed on the next spread.

The meaning of any conference is not only in the speeches, but also in the constant multidirectional communication of colleagues. This is what usually happens at international forums: the participants have professional business communication skills. Our teachers of geography, as usual, keep groupings. So it was here: the Anapa teachers clearly occupied a certain geographical position - one of the four flanks of the huge square of the "round" table, built in the assembly hall of the sixth school; the guests occupied the other three sides. Later, however, spatial differentiation began to turn into interpersonal integration.

Plenary session. Associate Professor of the Department of Teaching Methods of Natural Science, Geography and Ecology of the Moscow State Open University (MGOU) Ph.D. ped. Sciences Zinaida Nikolaevna Tkacheva

Mistresses who kindly received Russian geography teachers: on the right - the director of the Anapa school No. 6 Lyudmila Vasilievna Sulukidi(the main events of the conference were held at her school), on the left - a methodologist in geography of the Anapa Education Department Lidia Alexandrovna Terletskaya

One of the strongest moments of the excursion program of the conference is the mud volcanoes of the Taman Peninsula (to the north of Anapa). What are the conditions for the manifestation of mud volcanism?

1. The presence of thick strata of plastic clays.

2. Confinement to the zones of the ends of large folded structures with tectonic disturbances.

3. Accumulation of hydrocarbon gases causing abnormally high interlayer pressure.

4. The presence of formation waters softening clayey rocks.

Here, in the peripheral zone of the Greater Caucasus, in the region of the ancient delta of the Kuban, all these conditions are met. Thanks to them, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of Moscow State University Vasily Panteleevich Golov had the opportunity to show gallantry,

and the president of RAUG Alexander Alexandrovich Lobzhanidze- become flush with the top of the volcanic cone

RESOLUTION
X All-Russian
scientific and practical conference

"CURRENT PROBLEMS OF GEOGRAPHICAL EDUCATION IN RUSSIA"

The All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference of the Interregional Association of Teachers of Geography of Russia "Actual problems of geographical education in Russia" was held from 10/30/06 to 11/4/06 in Anapa in order to promote:

Solving urgent problems of geographical education;

Development of effective methods of teaching geography;

Determination of effective ways of development of geographical education in the interests of future generations of our country.

The conference was attended by teachers and methodologists from 15 regions of the Russian Federation: Republic of Adygea, Republic of Bashkortostan, Republic of Tatarstan, Krasnodar Territory, Vladimir Region, Kaluga Region, Leningrad Region, Lipetsk Region, Moscow Region, Penza Region, Rostov Region, Saratov Region, Smolensk region, Moscow, St. Petersburg.

In connection with the growing need to create a single educational space that ensures the formation of a versatile personality of a modern student, the conference participants note the serious problems and contradictions that have developed in modern geographical education, and draw attention to the need to improve the level of geographical literacy of students. The solution of the problems of modern Russia largely depends on how the future generation of citizens of our country acquires knowledge about the territory, natural resources and productive forces of the Motherland, about the population of our multi-ethnic state, about the diversity of regions of the largest country in the world. It is geographical knowledge that provides incentives for conscious creative activity for the benefit of the Motherland. Geographic education is the cornerstone of the social formation of the individual and the education of citizenship.

High-quality school geographical education should be adequately represented both in the federal and in the national-regional component of education.

In order to further improve geographical education in high school, the Conference recommends:

When compiling a new basic curriculum, it is necessary, along with the areas of "Natural Science" and "Social Science", to single out a separate educational area "Geography", the specificity of which is expressed in the spatial, regional and regional studies orientation and in which two traditional branches of geography, physical and economic, and complemented by regional socio-cultural content;

Boldly declare our subject at all levels, openly express our position on the problems of geographical education in the media;

Stop the vicious practice of reducing the hours allotted for geography in the basic curriculum;

Insist on the restoration of the teaching of geography in the amount of at least 2 hours in the 6th and 8-10th grades and 3 hours in the 7th grade;

In the 8th and 9th grades, allocate additional hours within the regional component to study your region in parallel with the study of relevant topics in the course "Geography of Russia";

Correlate the volume of the content core of the geography course, the content of basic and specialized school textbooks with the requirements for the content of USE questions;

Ensure continuity in teaching geography from class to class: teaching in each subsequent class should be based on previously acquired knowledge and skills;

Keeping in mind that the content of the subject "Geography" is constantly updated in the course of the development of natural and social systems, provide the geography teacher with about greater freedom of creativity; free teachers from bureaucratic work as much as possible;

To develop a system of advanced training courses for teachers in various forms: full-time, part-time, remote; create for the teacher a wide range of alternative advanced training courses;

Contribute to the fullest observance of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the possibility of choosing the type of exam in the 11th grade - the Unified State Examination, tickets, interview, abstract, etc.; tests in teaching geography can only be ONE of the ways to check;

When forming the content of the subject, take into account the actual interests of the emerging personalities of schoolchildren; correlate programs with the age characteristics of students;

Pay more attention to the practical orientation of geography as an academic subject; to this end, to provide in the curricula a well-thought-out system of practical work, as close as possible to the tasks actually solved by people in the geographical space;

When writing textbooks, pay more attention to the principle of interest, fascination, move away from "dry" scientificity;

To more widely involve teachers-practitioners, as well as representatives of the association of teachers of geography, in the examination of textbooks and teaching aids;

Correlate the volume of programs, standards, content of textbooks with the number of hours allotted for studying school geography courses;

To consider it necessary to further methodically and didactically meaningful informatization of school geographical education, taking into account the specifics of geography as a science and an academic subject; apply a complex of modern interactive teaching aids, among which the leading place is occupied by both interactive multimedia educational publications and digital educational tools peculiar only to geography - school geographic information systems;

In order to increase the interest of the younger generation in the study of geography, develop a system of competitions for students, promote the development of the Olympiad movement in every possible way; to ask the methodological commission of the All-Russian Olympiad to develop methodological recommendations for holding the regional round of the Olympiads, and in the future to create a regulatory document for the regional round;

Distribute the decisions of the conference through the media - the journals "Geography at School", "Geography and Ecology at the School of the XXI Century" and the newspaper "GEOGRAPHY" among teachers of geography of the Russian Federation. Send the decisions of the conference to the decision-making bodies of the federal and regional levels, to publishers of geographical literature and to scientific and methodological organizations working in the field of school geography.

The editorial committee is working on the text of the resolution: A.A. Lobzhanidze(RAUG), S.V. Rogachev("Geography"), D.V.Novenko(Education Center "Teaching Technologies")

The resolution is adopted unanimously. In the photo - representatives of the Vladimir, Rostov regions, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan, Penza, Kaluga, Smolensk, Lipetsk regions.

In the photo on the left - a conversation with the head of education of the resort city of Anapa YES. Baydikov. The sailboat in the front corner inspires confidence that geographical romance is alive in Dmitry Afanasyevich's soul. And this is true: his speech at the conference contained a capacious and vivid geographical description of the region. Professionals listened to him not as an official, but as a colleague of a lecturer.

The opening of the All-Russian Congress of Teachers of Geography will take place on October 28 in the Hall of the Cultural Center of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov (Moscow, Leninskiye Gory, 1). Alexander Lobzhanidze, President of the Interregional Association of Teachers of Geography of Russia, shared his vision on the problems and prospects of school geography.

Alexander Alexandrovich, you have been the head of the Geography Teachers Association for a long time. What are the main problems of teaching geography at school today?

The association has existed for 15 years, I have been its head for 10 years. Today, regional branches exist in 25 regions. The first and main problem of school geography is the aging of the teaching staff. The reason is obvious: given the low level of salaries in the regions, young graduates of pedagogical universities and universities are reluctant to go to school. The consequence of this situation is the growing gap between the generations of teachers oriented towards traditional forms of teaching and students living in the new information space. The second problem is the lack of a unified state standard for educational and methodological complexes. In market conditions, a huge number of lines of textbooks have appeared, many of which are written in old educational paradigms. As a result, there is no continuity from class to class, from region to region. When moving from one school to another, the student and parents are faced with the problem of transition to a new teaching and learning method. The third problem is the Unified State Examination that has set the teeth on edge. You can discuss the correspondence of questions to the program and the unambiguity of answers as much as you like. The main problem is that the exam<сушит>geography, replacing its humanitarian basis with coaching for solving problems. The fourth problem is the loss of the practical significance of geography, both for life and for future careers. Recently, the practice of long hikes and expeditions of schoolchildren in their native country has sunk into oblivion, hence the decrease in interest in the practical component of geography. In most universities, geography has disappeared from the list of entrance exams for economic faculties, remaining only in specialized faculties of geography - hence the drop in interest in it among graduates. Have these problems changed in the last 5-15 years? Yes, unfortunately they have escalated.

What regions of Russia (subjects or specific schools) can boast of a high level of teaching geography?

With the general high level of the capital cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, there are a number of centers that are traditionally distinguished by a high level of geographical education. The winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian and international Olympiads represented Kursk, Irkutsk, Stavropol, etc. It all depends on specific factors: the presence of a significant regional center for geographical education (university), an institute for advanced training of teachers, a competent, initiative methodologist in geography and, of course, talented teachers who have trained more than one generation of winners and prize-winners of Olympiads, participants in geographical competitions and numerous projects.

What, in your opinion, should be done today first of all to improve the quality of teaching geography in schools?

First of all, it is necessary to fully implement the requirements of the new Federal State Educational Standard for basic schools and achieve a worthy position for geography in the basic curriculum of high schools. Secondly, the efforts of the geographic community should be aimed at popularizing geography in all spheres of modern life.
