Life truth

In fact, even in your own apartment, sitting cross-legged or lying on your stomach, it is problematic to complete the smallest task on a laptop. As a result, mobile technology takes a solid place on the table and is not much different from a regular computer. There is a path to real comfort - a laptop table. Making it with your own hands is simple, quick and, as they say, “for three pennies.”

Do as we do

Follow the step-by-step instructions - and within an hour you can be proud of the result of your own labor. The laptop table you make will be very durable, light and versatile. Because it can easily become a breakfast tray, a bench for relaxing in nature, just a children’s table, a support that is convenient to stand on to reach a high-standing book, etc.

Option #1: DIY Solid Wood Laptop Table

Necessary materials:

Wood glue.
Sandpaper.
Putty or primer.
Varnish for covering wooden surfaces or paint.
Hand saw.
Paint and brush.
Hammer, nails, screws.
Sponge or soft rag.

Step 1. Buy a couple of suitable boards at a building materials store or carry out an “inspection” in your own garage, you will probably find something suitable there that you can simply disassemble and just adjust to the required dimensions. Cut the blanks: table top, 4 legs and 4 parts for the “apron” that should be under the table cover.

Since the dimensions of laptops vary significantly from each other, determine the optimal dimensions in your case. We draw your attention to the ratio of parameters of wooden parts that should be observed.

Legs (2 x 2 thick) - each 23 cm in length.
A pair of long “apron” pieces, 63 cm each (1 x 2). Notice that the ends of the “apron” are cut at a 45 degree angle.
The side parts of the “apron” (1 x 2) are 28 cm long.
The tabletop is 66.5 cm long and 30 cm wide.

Step 2 (optional). You can sand the legs of the product along the edges. There is no particular need for this. They just look more aesthetically pleasing this way. In addition, such a laptop table is convenient to place in the bed, and there are no rough edges. If it is not available to you, this operation can be done manually.

Step 3. Place the table top face down on the work table and use one to attach all the backsplash pieces one by one.

Press firmly and leave for about twenty minutes to “set”.

If you plan to paint your laptop tables (photo below), be careful with the glue. It is better to remove the part of the substance displaced from under the parts with a sponge or soft rag before it hardens. Dried glue will prevent the paint from absorbing and will look like a dirty stain.

Step 4. Turn the tabletop over and nail it to the backsplash.

Step 5. Turn the tabletop over again. Place the legs in the corners of the “apron” with glue, and then secure the position with nails, and even more securely with screws.

In total, each leg must be reinforced with nails on both sides.

Step 6. Leave your work for a day. Let the glue dry completely.

Step 7 Sand the countertop It is not recommended to skip this step. This way you will save yourself and your loved ones from annoying thorns.

Step 8 If your tabletop consists of several fitted boards, then you need to prime the surface and, after drying, level the surface with putty.

Step 9 The most enjoyable stage is painting the product. Color is at your discretion and interior appropriateness. Don’t skimp on paint; use high-quality paint that will prevent streaks and last as long as you use the table.

Option number 2: laptop table in bed

This version of the product for a mobile computer is slightly different from the previous one in design. Instead of a solid tabletop and legs, the master used slats.

In this case, you can follow the instructions above on how to make a laptop table. The sequence of work will be the same. Only the number of details will increase significantly. But it’s much easier to get them than a solid board.

Option number 3: “Zen style”

This may seem difficult to do for a laptop. But this is a false conclusion. You will be convinced of this as soon as you find out what the laptop table is made of. You can make it with your own hands in half an hour.

Necessary materials:

A wooden frame from an old painting, suitable for a portable device.
A piece of plywood with the same parameters as the frame. Actually, you can use a painting if it is painted in oil on fiberboard, since you had to tear it off. In this case, the working side will be the same as the back for the painting. However, depending on the content and integrity of the work, a pictorial plot can become a unique decoration for a designer’s table. It's a pity that the sample can't boast of this. Nevertheless, the table turned out excellent.
4 thin slats (the dimensions must correspond to the perimeter of the table).
6 durable slats for the legs of the product.
Wood glue.
Hammer.
4 bolts and the same number of nuts.
Brush and paint or (optional).
Hacksaw.

Step 1. If necessary, strengthen the frame with glue and suitable size nails.

Step 2. Carefully nail the tabletop to the apron frame.

Step 3. Turn the workpiece over. “Set” thin restrictive slats around the perimeter of the tabletop onto the glue.

Step 4. Make the table legs in the shape of a wide "h".

File the tops and base of the legs at a 45 degree angle. This simple action will force them to stand not straight, but to extend at an angle beyond the edges of the table, which will add stability to the product.

Turn the tabletop upside down. Install the legs using bolts and nuts.

Step 5 (optional). So, your DIY laptop table is almost ready. If you understood and completed everything correctly, then the upper part of your product should consist of three layers: an “apron”, the actual tabletop made of plywood or fiberboard and limiting slats.

If necessary, before painting, you can prime the uneven areas and perfectly level the surface with putty. In this case, additional time will be required to allow each working coat to dry before final painting.

Apply varnish to the sides of the table and legs.

Step 6 (most creative). You can complete the work of making a table for a laptop in different ways: paint, decoupage, laminate, wrap with self-adhesive film, or come up with and implement your own version.

The model that served as a sample was painted red-orange. This contrasts well with the chocolate and coffee base of the table, giving it a unique “Zen” flavor.

I have an idea!

Comfortable tables for a laptop computer can be made from ordinary packaging cardboard, woven from wicker or newspaper tubes, from old and unnecessary things. But this is another master class.

A very original design of a laptop table was proposed by the author. I like the techniques of working with plywood because of their simplicity. A laptop placed on the knees while working is said to lead to impotence. This design will help you easily avoid such a problem. The only thing, it seems to me, is that a normal working surface for the mouse is a little lacking. But for those who don’t need it, I think they will appreciate the laptop table.

The laptop stand is designed for Benjamin. He is a teenager and he likes to chat on the Internet, scroll through facebook, etc. But he didn't see him leaning towards his screen. Leaving him with poor posture and severe back pain.

The stand was designed with and especially for Benjamin. What we aimed to design furniture aside would not be shameful.

The shape of the stand is to bend the laptop slightly to the side instead of tipping it over. There is a slot at the top where the tabletop can slide. To hold the laptop in an upright position, we installed trestle beds in the tabletop. The table top reaches a height of 66 cm.

By keeping the design simple, we hope we can help more people than just Benjamin keep their back straight.

Step 1: Tools Used

Step 2: Materials Used

KGN 3x35 screws mm: 28 total
Self-tapping screws 4x50 mm: 12 total
We used spax screws, you could use whatever you prefer.

18 mm plywood: 120×150 cm
12 mm plywood: 22×35 cm
Of course, you can also use solid wood. This will make the edges stronger and also make sanding the wood much easier.

Make sure you have enough materials.

For the build we made some preparation plans. Be careful, all dimensions in plans are in millimeters.

The pieces on top 3, bottom 2, bottom 3 and all corners should be sawn at an angle. Make sure all your angles are correct so everything fits. Check your table saw setting for cutting a piece of dough (depth of cut changes with angle). To save wood you can use corners from pieces you have already sawn.

Step 3: Cutting the boards

Using the plans, all parts can be cut. To make sure everything was correct we did a test for everyone on his side. If some angles are not right, you can take a sander and correct them. But don't panic when you have small gaps, you won't see those after the screws are tightened.

We went and bought a large board, which was 240x120 cm. We used the rest of the board as our desktop.

Step 4: making the bottom

When making the bottom start with bottom 1 and bottom 2. First add some wood glue, you have everything lined up and tighten the screws. Make sure you screw into a corner so that the screws don't expose the wood to the surface. For best results, have another person hold the pieces together. Residues of glue can be easily cleaned with a small chisel and a rag.

After these two combined the bottom 3 can be placed. Put wood glue on both sides, get it lined up and screw down 1. Now draw a line on the bottom 2 and line your screws up. Screw from bottom 3 from bottom 2. Again for good results, have another person hold the pieces together.

15 screws used: KGN 3x35 mm

Step 5: making the top

At the top we intend to screw up at the bottom, so make sure the best sides of the wood are on the right track. Because we are using large screws (5x40 mm) for the top, we have pre-drilled and all holes through the top 2 and corners. After chamfering all the holes in the top part 2, put a little wood glue, put the clamps and threaded top 1, corners and top 2 together.

We used 5 screws separated by total width pieces.
10 screws used: 5x40 mm

Once this is done, you can check the fit of the countertops. We have a 4 mm gap between the table top and the top 1.

Step 6: Assembling the top and bottom

We used both types of screws to connect the top and bottom. After leveling and adding wood glue, we screwed in large screws (5x40mm) on both ends (see photo). Make sure that while tightening you don't hit the screws you've already screwed up at the top. And make sure the big screws are deep enough so you can hide them later. Then we screwed up the screws from the inside.

We used 5 screws separated by total width pieces.
2 screws used: 5x40 mm
3 screws used: KGN 3x35 mm

Time for the last piece, top 3 can be placed the same way as bottom 3. Put wood glue on both sides, get it lined up and screw into the top. Now draw a line on the bottom 2 and your line will be screwed up. Screw top 3 bottom 2 and done. Again, for good results, have another person hold the pieces together.

We used 5 screws separated by total width pieces.

Step 7: Milling workbench

This is the most difficult part of the assembly, milling the slot in the tabletop.

Make sure your outline extends with a thick line. Using the router and manual we made the first slot. We went to a total depth of 12mm in one pass. Make sure you plan ahead how you are going to keep the router supported or you may get some holes like I did.

Once the largest slot is done, two small slots are made to keep the trestles upright. These slots are approximately 93 mm on the sides and run the entire length.

For clean results, you'll mill this using a connected router or CNC router.

To finish this part we glued the sky pieces through pattex. We tested several pattex adhesives and worked just as well as more expensive textile adhesives. Make sure you get good light, press firmly and put some weight on it for an hour.

Step 8: creating an overpass

Now the hardest part is done, it's time for the easy part.

Both parts of the trestle are rounded from the outside so that they fit perfectly into the previously milled slots. The next fake skin, we used the sky, gets applied using pattex. We tested several pattex adhesives and worked just as well as more expensive textile adhesives. Make sure you get good light, press firmly and put some weight on it for an hour.

Once this is all dry, you can start by drilling holes for the fake leather strips. Make sure you put a piece of scrap wood underneath you piece so the leather doesn't sag. We drilled 19 holes on each side. Starting 0.5 cm from the edge, then 1 cm and after that 2 cm between each hole until you reach the other side (see photo). After this you can pull/push the fake leather strips through. To push them through I used a crochet hook. While pulling the tape, make sure that the trestles are not so tight that they can still be thrown off. The end is double knotted close to the surface.

Step 9: Completing the Laptop Stand

Almost well done, keep it up!

Now to fill all the screw heads with plastic wood. Use a putty knife to get a good result, let it dry, sand it gently and fill it again. With a sander, all surfaces can be sanded, starting with a high grit and ending with at least one. To get all the angles we used a sanding block.

To make a laptop table with your own hands, it is not at all necessary to have special skills and extensive experience. These can be simple designs that even a beginner can handle. Some products are only available to professionals, so it is better to purchase them. If you don’t want to spend money on something you can do yourself, check out our material.

The basis for creating any laptop table is drawings. You can make them yourself, find them on the Internet, or even order them from a designer you know. The choice is yours.

In addition to the drawings, you will need:

Plywood sheet about 15 millimeters thick;

Drawing

As we noted, the main element of successfully creating a table is the presence of drawings. Here are a few design features to consider when designing it:

Tabletop. Usually it is made in dimensions of 30 by 60 centimeters, but if you want to equip the table with additional armrests, choose a larger tabletop;
Legs. Legs in the shape of the letter Z work well. Some people make the legs straight. The best option is a folding design;
Glass stand. You can cut a hole in the tabletop for a glass, which will allow you to always keep your favorite drink at hand;
Armrests. To prevent your hands from getting tired, you can place them on the edges of the tabletop, which are enlarged specifically to serve as an armrest.

Popular options

Now let's look at some of the most popular table options that are perfect for placing a laptop on them and more.

You will be able to evaluate the features of each of them in order to ultimately understand which option is best suited for you.

Classic monolithic table. To make it you will need a beech board or a piece of any other material for the tabletop. Here is the general advice for all the options being considered today - the thickness of the tabletop should be at least 20 millimeters. Plus, you take four legs, which are fixed at the bottom of the tabletop in the corners using corners and screws. This table is perfect for a laptop, breakfast in bed, reading and other activities.
Table with folding legs. In addition to the tabletop, you will need 2 or 4 folding legs. The legs can be small or wide, allowing the use of 2 or 4 legs respectively. Carefully process all edges after cutting the tabletop to the required shape and size. If this is not done, over time they will begin to lose their original appearance, you will get a lot of skidding and other troubles;
Using wood or chipboard, use 2-3 layers of clear varnish. This way the design will sparkle pleasantly and give off an original shine, plus you will protect the table from the destructive effects of that same hot mug of tea;
Instead of a hole for a mug, you can make a kind of saucer or plate out of wood. Place it on glue. This way you don't have to drill into the material. Sometimes, if handled carelessly and pressing on the hole area, the table cracks or breaks. The hole makes him more vulnerable;
If you want to decorate a table, use paints. They can be used to draw the desired design, and then cover it with layers of varnish. This way they will not be erased over time;
A popular solution is vinyl desk stickers for laptops. Simply by gluing them to the surface of the table, over time they will begin to come off and fill with dirt and dust. If you really like the stickers and don't want to change them, use varnish again. To do this, stickers are attached, and the top of the table is covered with 2 layers of varnish. Materials, decorative elements, varnishes, paints, stickers, beads - this is only a small part of what will allow you to create a real masterpiece from a piece of a table top and several legs.

Nowadays, almost every person uses a laptop or computer, in this case the article will be useful to those who own a laptop. Sometimes an ordinary table is not convenient for working on a laptop, so the author decided to make his own homemade table that will satisfy all working conditions. The parts for this homemade product are not difficult to obtain.

In order to make a table for a laptop, we will need:
* Wooden planks.
* Round chops.
* Clamps.
* Wood glue.
* Bolts.
* Wood varnish.
* Sandpaper.

That's all the parts we need for assembly, now we can start assembling everything.

Step one.
First of all, you need planks, from which the table will be made. We adjust all parts of the future table to the size so that their sizes do not differ from each other, since the final result will depend on this.

They will be connected to each other by means of choppers, which you can buy in a store or make yourself from a round stick.

Step two.
We insert choppers into each plank, drilling holes for this prematurely. For better connection, we install two choppers per board.
We prepare the surface with sandpaper, you need to sand gradually, moving from grit 60, then 120, 200 and so on until you reach 800, which will be quite enough.

Step three.
When the sanding stage is completed, we move on to gluing the elements. First we will glue the tabletop. We lubricate the joints and chops with wood glue and, using clamps, tighten the structure into a strong frame, which will be the tabletop of the future table.

Step four.
Now let's move on to the base, we make it from four planks folded in the form of a rectangle, after which we attach them to each other with glue, pressing them with the same clamps and wait until the glue dries.

It's time to connect the tabletop and base together, coat the joints and press them with clamps, while paying attention that the legs of the clamps do not leave marks on the tabletop, and to avoid them, place a small cloth folded in half under the leg.

Step five.
The table is almost ready, but you can’t call it that yet because it has no legs. Let's do this and make legs for our table, the material is the same as the table itself, we glue the parts together with carpenter's glue, the connection point here will be a board installed in a slot made in the middle of both legs.

Step six.
Now we attach the legs to the base of the table using bolts, We clamp firmly, but so that the bolt does not push through the wood. Let's embellish the bolt a little by making a cover for its head. We carve hats out of wood and glue them onto the bolt; these are decorative plugs, so to speak, so as not to disturb all the beauty.

And finally, we coat the tabletop and base with legs with wood varnish, which will express its texture and give the table a natural beauty.

Many laptop owners have to deal with the same and rather paradoxical problem. By purchasing a laptop, they have at their disposal a convenient and mobile device that eliminates the need to constantly sit at a desk. However, holding it on your lap all the time is also not very convenient. Your legs become tense, your back and neck become numb, and the laptop itself can get quite hot during operation and cause inconvenience.

All these problems can be solved quite quickly and simply. You just need to figure out how to make a laptop table. There are several standard modifications that can be taken as a basis.

Common designs

First of all, you need to choose the material. After all, the quality and service life of the finished product depend on the materials from which the main elements of the laptop table are made.

A drawing of one of the simplest designs is presented in Figure 1. It is recommended to make this laptop table from natural beech board and cover it with 2 layers of colorless varnish with sanding.

The second option is a laptop table with two folding legs. The same 2-centimeter thick beech board is used for manufacturing.

Laptop table with two folding legs and a cutout for a mug. This design will especially appeal to those who like to lie in bed with a laptop and watch a movie. The material and finishing are the same as in previous cases.

And the fourth option is a laptop table with two folding legs, a cutout for a mug and a pair of comfortable armrests. The drawing is shown in Figure 2. You can use natural beech board with a thickness of 1.8 cm. It is necessary to cover it with 2 layers of colorless varnish with sanding.

If you wish, you can change the dimensions shown in the drawings at your discretion. To quickly make a laptop table, you will need the following tools:

a hacksaw for metal (if you don’t have one, you can use a tool for processing wood, but you will need to additionally process the edges);
drill;
crosshead screwdriver;
pencil;
ruler;
fine sandpaper.

Rigid Structure Manufacturing Guide

The easiest way to make a laptop table is to use unnecessary parts from old furniture.

One of the simplest models that can be made without investing money, using parts of an unnecessary table, an old sofa and other furniture. This laptop table consists of 2 side parts, united by a common tabletop. The sides simultaneously serve as legs. Select the size of the tabletop according to the size of the laptop. For a device with a 15.6-inch display, a tabletop measuring 60x27 cm will be sufficient.

The sides will be of complex shape and have a beveled side. The dimensions of the sidewalls are 27x20.5x25.5x28 cm. The beveled side should have a length of 27 cm. It is with this part that the sidewalls are attached to the tabletop.

Use screws for fastening. As a result, the back of the homemade laptop table will be raised by 28 cm, and the front of the tabletop will be lowered by 20.5 cm.

Preparing the parts and assembling such a table will take you no more than an hour.

In order for the fastening of the sidewalls to be as reliable as possible, they must be additionally screwed from the inside using small corners.

The laptop desk model in question is perfect for working in a lying or semi-lying position. You take a position that is comfortable for you, place a table above your feet and go about your business. If desired, the finished product can be painted, varnished or covered with film.

Step-by-step assembly instructions

When making a laptop table, you can use plastic pipes as legs.

This model, like the previous one, does not fold. The main difference from the option discussed above is the lighter design. Prepare materials for assembling the table:

Tabletop material. You can use plywood, wooden board, MDF, plastic window sill, etc. For comfortable work, a tabletop measuring 60x28x1.6 cm will be sufficient.
An inch plastic pipe 132 cm long. A polyethylene pipe is also suitable, as well as a chrome pipe, which is widely used in furniture production. These are very light pipes, so using a ready-made laptop table will be very comfortable.
Plastic corners. Their diameter should be equal to the diameter of the pipe. You will need 2 corners at 90 degrees and the same at 135 degrees.
A pair of metal pipe clamps.
Screws 4 cm in the amount of 8 pieces.

Cut the pipe into 6 equal lengths of 22 cm. PVC pipe can be cut with garden pruning shears. Next, you will need to install clamps at the corners of the future tabletop. This will eliminate the need to glue the corners and tubes together. Thanks to this, the legs will be securely fastened; if necessary, the table can be disassembled without any problems.

This way, you'll get a lightweight laptop desk with a 15-degree tilted top, even though the legs will be the same length.

Table made of natural materials

To create a laptop table, you can use branches with twigs.

This table will fit best into a country style interior. It is made from natural wood. It's better if it has branches.

It is recommended to use fragrant juniper. This wood smells very pleasant and has an amazing color, beautifully shimmering from green to orange, purple, etc. The parts of the homemade table are held together with self-tapping screws and wood glue. The width including branches is 80 cm, height is 40 cm, width without branches is 65 cm.

This homemade table has an exclusively natural shape. To make it convenient to use, parts of one trunk should be used to make the tabletop. Saw it lengthwise so that the fragments have the same width and the same bend.

The table legs will have different lengths. Adjust them so that the structure is as stable as possible. Thanks to the curved shape of the tabletop, such a table will have a comfortable ledge on which you can rest your hand while working with the mouse.

Various technical equipment used when working with a laptop, such as headphones, wires, etc., can be placed on the branches. Before starting work, the wood is thoroughly cleaned and sanded. There is no need to treat with chemical impregnations.
