The technology of gluing non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling for painting and finishing with plinth. How to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling Song we glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling

Wallpapering the ceiling is one of the most common decisions made during renovations. And the choice of non-woven wallpaper for this can be an excellent solution for both absolutely flat ceilings and flawed surfaces. It is important to know how to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling correctly. They appeared on the market recently, but have already won well-deserved sympathy. They consist of paper and textile fibers, which are held together by polymeric substances. Due to the composition, they are very high quality, strong, durable, retain their shape when glued.

Pasting the ceiling with non-woven wallpaper is possible on any surface, but in any case it must be prepared: remove dust and prime.

There is a wide variety of non-woven wallpaper. They can be of different colors or plain for painting. Such wallpapers will help to improve the sound insulation in the room, besides, they are resistant to ignition. Taking care of them is also easy. They can be cleaned with a conventional vacuum cleaner or wiped with a damp cloth.

Tools and materials

Before you glue the wallpaper with your own hands, you need to thoroughly prepare. A very important issue is the choice of wallpaper and tools for work. Before starting repairs, all furniture should be removed from the room and stocked with such necessary tools:

  • metal ruler;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • roulette;
  • brush or brush;
  • roller;
  • wallpaper spatula.

It is very important to choose the right wallpaper. As a rule, interlining is a very resistant material. This largely explains the high cost of wallpaper. At the time of purchase, it is important to choose rolls that are the same shade. And the presence of color marriage can pretty spoil the interior.

See that the canvases are uniform and do not delaminate. If the layers of wallpaper are visible to the naked eye, this will already indicate that the material is of poor quality. But good wallpaper with proper sticking will serve you for a very long time, and working with them will not be difficult.

Preparing the ceiling, glue and wallpaper

Before sticking wallpaper, the ceiling must be thoroughly cleaned. Non-woven wallpaper can be glued to any surface if it is properly prepared. If there are old wallpapers on the ceiling, they must be removed. If the ceiling was covered with paint and it does not hold well, it must also be removed. It is convenient to use a special tool for this, which will make the paint lag behind the surface.

Whitewash from the ceiling can be easily removed with a spatula and warm soapy water, and the remains are removed with a sponge or cloth. The concrete or plastered ceiling is leveled with putty, the cracks are sealed and, after drying, covered with a primer using a roller or brush. If the ceiling is plasterboard, then only joints and recesses from fasteners are treated with putty. At the joints, reinforcing tape must be used. After that, you need to wait about three hours for the ceiling to dry completely.

It is better to use a special glue so that over time it does not turn yellow, but remains transparent. It is diluted in containers with water strictly according to the instructions that come with it. Dry glue is thoroughly mixed in water so that lumps do not form, and let it brew. For the ceiling, you can use glue a little thicker than for the walls.

And take into account a simple but effective advice. For gluing non-woven wallpaper, add a little ordinary PVA glue to the glue. This will make it possible to improve the composition of the main adhesive, due to which the wallpaper will hold as firmly as possible on the ceiling.

Wallpaper on the ceiling should be parallel to the shortest wall. Each sheet is pre-measured and cut with scissors, the length must be a few centimeters longer, it is better to cut off the excess later. If the wallpaper is with a pattern, then the sheets are selected so that it matches. For convenience, the sheets can be numbered with a pencil.

If the surface of the ceiling is not ideal, then it is better to choose a wallpaper with a large pattern or embossed. Before work, all fixtures are removed from the ceiling, and the wires must be de-energized. During wallpapering, there should be no drafts in the room until it is completely dry, otherwise the wallpaper may fall off the ceiling.

Subtleties of wallpapering

When everything is ready, you can safely begin. Here it will be more convenient to work together. In this case, one person will stand on a ladder or goats to glue the canvases directly to the surface, and the second person must prepare the wallpaper on the floor and serve them.

So, according to the rules, gluing non-woven wallpaper involves completely coating only the canvas with glue. But for a better quality of adhesion to the surface, it is best to lightly prime the ceiling with glue. When spreading wallpaper with glue, you need to especially carefully handle the edges and corners. Don't be stingy with wallpaper paste. After the canvases are smeared, fold the sheet so that it is soaked. Let it sit like this for about 3-5 minutes.

Meanwhile, another person will put glue on the ceiling. It should not be applied to the surface much. It is enough to cover the surface lightly so that it does not remain dry. Due to this, the canvas will adhere to the ceiling very firmly.

When the sheet is saturated with glue, you can proceed to the main work. It is necessary to take a sheet, carefully unfold it and, according to the markings on the edges, fix it on the ceiling. It is very important that at the same time part of the canvas enters the wall. It's okay if the canvas turns out to be longer. You can always cut off the excess. But the surface of the ceiling will look perfect.

When the sheet is correctly placed on the ceiling, you can safely proceed to its final fixing. To do this, you will need a rubber roller and a spatula. It is necessary gradually, starting from the center of the sheet to the edges, to expel air bubbles from under the canvas. On non-woven wallpaper, they are usually quite insignificant and not even so noticeable at first glance. But smoothing is still necessary to avoid sagging.

When you come to the edges, excess glue will come out from under the canvas. They must be removed immediately with a spatula, while trying not to stain the wallpaper. Then you need to carefully coat the edges and corners again, without peeling off the entire canvas, and again press them tightly against the ceiling.

Excess wallpaper that has entered the wall must be removed with a clerical knife. But you should leave about 2-3 cm of the sheet on the wall. This must be done so that in the future when decorating the walls there will be no gaps between the wall and the ceiling.

Similarly, you need to glue the rest of the sheets. Please note that non-woven wallpaper must be glued end-to-end, so you should clearly adjust the pattern and place the sheets as close to each other as possible to avoid the formation of gaps. Particular attention should be paid to sticking dark-colored wallpaper on the ceiling. After all, the gaps between them will be very noticeable.

In those places where you intend to place lamps, you should make cross-shaped cuts on the wallpaper. Through them it will be possible to easily conduct wires and other communications. Until the wallpaper is dry, it is forbidden to connect electricity for safety reasons.

So the work is done. Now you need to ensure the setting of the canvases. To do this, it is necessary to protect the room from drafts, even in the summer.

After about 2 days, stick somewhere in the corner a piece of adhesive tape directly to the wallpaper: if after 15 minutes the moisture does not show through, the ceiling is dry and ready for subsequent finishing.

So, gluing non-woven wallpaper to the ceiling is not so difficult.

Flizelin is a special cushioning material that is firmly connected to fabrics, giving them strength and the desired volume. It is obtained by combining fabric and cellulose fibers with polymer binders by pressing. Designer fashion willingly accepts proposals to use more and more new materials. Thanks to this, interlining has relatively recently hit the ceiling. Cloths on this basis are endowed with remarkable qualities: resistant to abrasion, light weight, long service life, a variety of colors. The question of how to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling should not be puzzling. Because, they are universal and very easy to cut, when glued, they do not deform and do not bubble, like paper ones. In addition, if necessary, they lend themselves well to coloring without losing the quality and convexity of the pattern.

Tools and fixtures

Before you start gluing wallpaper, you need to free the room from furniture and other items, as well as prepare tools, fixtures and materials. Since it is necessary to fix the ceiling wallpaper, then, first of all, you need to take care of the ladders, or put a long table, or arrange a scaffold. To work with the ceiling was convenient and safe. It is better to cover the floors with a protective film from the ingress of glue, and for work, prepare clean large sheets of thick paper. You will also need the following repair tool:

  • slate pencil and metal ruler;
  • knife and scissors;
  • measuring tape and square;
  • brush with hard short bristles and brush;
  • production mixer or some other mixer;
  • spatulas ordinary and wallpaper made of plastic;
  • a paint roller wallpaper to smooth the joints;
  • bath for glue.

It is really better to prepare a metal ruler, because wooden and plastic ones can be easily damaged when cutting the material. And this, in the future, is the uneven edges of the tapestries and the marriage in the work.

Surface preparation

Of course, small flaws can be covered. But, it is still more pleasant to work with a high-quality surface. Therefore, the ceiling must be completely cleaned of the old finish, remove unnecessary bulges, repair cracks and joints if the ceiling is made of several slabs, and not solid. If the surface is made of plasterboard, then the joints of the sheets must be covered with putty with reinforcing tape. After leveling and sealing, it would be good to putty the entire working area with a finishing compound for complete confidence in the quality of the preparation. The preliminary repair process is considered completed. And after drying, the surface must be coated with a primer for better adhesion of the finish to the base.

Main Process

First you need to prepare a solution of special glue for non-woven bases according to the recommendations indicated on its packaging. To do this, use any open container (bucket, tank) and a mixer. The composition is stirred thoroughly so that there are no lumps. Water should be taken not cold and not hot, but at room temperature. Some manufacturers advise the adhesive to withstand a certain time before use. This exposure improves its working qualities. Moreover, for different compositions, such a period may be different. Therefore, the adhesive composition must be prepared taking into account this time, in advance. How to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling? First of all, you need to make a markup with a pencil on the surface to be glued, so as not to make a mistake with the pattern on the wallpaper and for ease of use. Marking is especially important if the wallpaper on drywall, according to design requirements, needs to be glued diagonally.

Cutting and sticker

Before cutting, be sure to read the manufacturer's recommendations on the wallpaper, or rather on the labels. It says exactly how to glue these canvases correctly. It is necessary to carefully study the drawing and determine the size of the fit. Moreover, each sheet must be cut with some margin, so that the glued sheet can be conveniently cut in place. It is convenient to cut the canvases all at once, just outline the order in which they are used by numbers in order to avoid confusion. You can also cut one sheet, glue it, then cut the next one. But with this mode of operation, the repair process can be delayed.

To understand how to properly glue non-woven wallpaper, you need to get to know them. They differ from other types of materials in this series in that they do not need to be glued. The adhesive composition covers only the pasted surface itself. To do this, use paint rollers or wide wallpaper brushes.

Some Features

In any work there are nuances that cannot be predicted, but must be observed in order to get a quality result. The ceiling glued with non-woven trellises should look impeccable. Therefore, when working with it, you need to keep in mind that:

  1. There are canvases that need to be glued end-to-end, and there are those in which the edges are found one on top of the other, that is, overlapped. At this point, too, should pay attention.
  2. In the first case, it is better to insure the joints from the wrong side with gasket strips or masking tape, which is glued under the trellis sheets. Then the canvases will not be able to disperse when dried. The sheet pressed against the overlapping plane is smoothed with a plastic spatula from the middle to the edges. Glued interlining at the joints must be pressed to the surface of the base with a wallpaper roller.
  3. If the sticker is overlapped, then the sheets will simply have nowhere to diverge. But if even the smallest wrinkles or bubbles appear at the joining points, they must be eliminated with a plastic spatula or with small cuts with a clerical knife, followed by gluing.
  4. In both cases, it is important to correctly fit the pattern, then the joints of the canvases will not be noticeable at all and the glued surface will look solid. The pattern diverging from the center to the sides looks especially attractive.
  5. Important! Adhesive protruding at the joints must be removed immediately with a soft cloth, preventing it from drying out. Otherwise, stains or sagging may remain on the front side of the canvases, which will prevent uniform coloring, if they are intended for this.

What are tapestries on non-woven

Before deciding how to stick interlining on the ceiling, you must first consider what is expected to be the result. Although the tapestries are called non-woven, they are not completely so. This is the foundation. And the top layer can have a very different texture, imitate silk or satin fabric, decorative plaster, volumetric ornaments.

Manufacturers produce canvases for final finishing or intended as a preparation for painting. This option is especially interesting in that the sheets are made with a convex pattern that can be painted as you wish. By the way, this solution goes well with the ceiling and cornice moldings. Work on painting a relief surface is associated with significant labor intensity. Since many actions will have to be performed with a brush. But the end result is worth it. At the same time, it should also be understood whether the preferences for arranging the interior of a given room do not differ from the general style of a house or apartment.

Non-woven tapestries are suitable for pasting almost any surface made of: dense or porous concrete, natural or artificial stones, wood, drywall, plasters. And also for decorating rooms for various purposes. They increase the level of sound insulation, do not burn. Non-woven fabrics are endowed with high abrasion resistance, so they are easy to care for with ordinary detergents.

Our parents believed that the ceiling must be whitewashed, so the walls would breathe and the microclimate in your room would be very favorable. Now in the building materials market we can buy both whitewash and ceiling wallpapers of any quality and material. Good non-woven on a strong basis. If you decorate the ceiling with them, then if you wish, you can not think about major repairs for 10 years, or even more every year. Soon we will learn how to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling. They can be taken for painting or let them remain on the ceiling without painting.

Someone thinks that whitewashing or wallpaper for painting is good, but only white is on the ceiling. Indeed, it visually expands the space and the room is psychologically comfortable. If you like having colored ceiling wallpaper or with patterns, such as flowers, on the ceiling, get these. This is your home. Bring your wildest ideas to life. If only you liked the design and cheered up, did not interfere with relaxing in the office after a hard day.

Colorful wallpaper for the ceiling

Stripes for painting are most often. Especially in panel houses, it happens that at the junction of the plates they do not lie evenly, and one protrudes above the other, for example, by 0.5 mm. If you paste over the ceiling with ordinary paper wallpaper, then this cosmetic defect will be noticeable. When we decide to use non-woven on a good basis, they are dense and easily hide such an uneven ceiling. We will not forget that there is such a flaw, but the guests will not notice anything.

What glue to use

If you don’t want to re-glue the ceiling several times, buy right away at a hardware store or on the market special glue so that a good sticking of non-woven wallpaper comes out. If you use a custard from, it will not hold such heavy canvases. As a result, only ruin the ceiling wallpaper, and you won’t be able to glue them to the ceiling.

The special glue is thick and viscous enough for the wallpaper to be painted to quickly set and adhere perfectly to the ceiling. They apply it directly to the ceiling, then carefully apply the ceiling wallpaper and align it to the previous strip end-to-end. Usually a dry mix is sold, and at home you dilute it yourself with water before starting repair work for today and the glue is ready. Let's take a closer look at how to cook it:

  1. Requires a container with a wide mouth. Most often take an ordinary bucket. Read the instructions for how much water is required for this amount of dry mix and pour exactly that much into the bucket.
  2. Take a large spoon and make a cycle in a bucket of water, stirring the water. Now gently pour in the mixture. It should evenly mix with water, there should be no lumps, otherwise there will be tubercles when the ceiling wallpaper is pasted.
  3. Let this solution stand quietly for about 15 minutes, and then stir well and you can use it.

The use of wallpaper similar in texture for walls and ceilings

In the old days, it was generally accepted that the ceiling must be whitewashed, so the walls would breathe and the microclimate in the room would be the most favorable. Now in the building materials market we can buy both whitewashing and any quality and material of linen and wallpaper for painting. Non-woven on a strong and rigid basis. If they competently decorate the ceiling, then if you wish, you can not remember the overhaul for several years.

Tools

You will need the following tools to hang wallpaper:

  1. A knife that has a supply of blades to cut strips and then cut them at the corners.
  2. Fur roller to gently spread glue on the ceiling.
  3. A wallpaper spatula (made of plastic) or a roller (dense), for neatly smoothing the wallpaper.
  4. Roller (plastic) to roll the seams.
  5. A ruler made of metal to evenly trim the canvases of baguettes located on the ceiling.
  6. Rags (clean) to remove adhesive residue from the wallpaper.

These tools fit perfectly and no others are needed. Before gluing, go to the construction supermarket and you will find everything.

We glue canvases

Non-woven wallpaper is better because they are applied directly to the wall. It is there that special glue is applied, and wallpaper on top. So, you don’t need to cut them, just cut them neatly along the edge and that’s enough.

Bring a bucket with glue diluted in it. Dip a fur roller there and, starting from the top, evenly distribute glue down the wall. When you attach the 1st strip, it is necessary that the entire ceiling in that place be carefully greased with glue.

Often the false ceiling is multi-level

If you have rather poor eyesight and it is not very clear where the glue has been applied, and where not yet, then buy glue with an indicator. On the wall where it is, color will appear. It doesn't show up on the wallpaper.

Did you cover the entire wall? Now pick up the roll, pull out the tip. Hang them up to the ceiling. Pull down a little and level using a plastic spatula. Now your task is to place the canvas well on the back. Remove air bubbles with excess glue later. If there are fears that you will miss the size of the canvas, overlap in place of the next strip. Overlapping can also be done from above. Then, with a sharp blade, cut off the unnecessary side and top or bottom remnants.

The roll must be rolled out on the ceiling with the hand that is comfortable. At this time, the other is helping yourself and straightening the strip. Apply enough glue to the ceiling. In such cases, they can be freely moved for some time. So, it is more convenient to level them end-to-end or with a slight overlap.

The use of textured canvases for the ceiling in the room

When rolling out a roll, try to squeeze out excess glue from under it and straighten the places where air bubbles have formed. If you find it difficult to hold a whole roll on weight, then you can measure and cut off the strips. If you have a roll in your hands, then unfold it slowly and paste over that place to the opposite wall.

So you applied the canvas to the ceiling, squeezed out where there are air bubbles. Now you need to trim it evenly around the edges. Do it carefully. This is where a metal ruler comes in handy. A spatula made of plastic or metal is also suitable.

The point is to press a ruler or spatula into the very corner at the junction of the ceiling with the wall and cut it evenly. Specialists after each such cut break the tip of the blade. Then they are sure that they did everything right. At the bottom, you will press the ruler or spatula into the corner between the baseboard and the floor.

Wallpaper on all surfaces of the room

Began pasting the ceiling with non-woven wallpaper. You did a great job of applying the first strip to the ceiling, and now continue using the same technology - apply the second. And so, following her to the end of the wall. Do not forget to ensure that the canvases on the ceiling fit together well. Non-woven wallpaper with this procedure pleases with the fact that it is durable and does not stretch. You move them freely along the ceiling, smeared with glue - equalize. For a beginner, these skills are important.

When you expel the glue, you can leave a gap between this and the next canvas of 5 mm, and then you can easily join it back to back with fresh glue. How best to pull the seam, it is better not to explain, but to show. Masters do this, for example, by drawing along the canvas with a plastic spatula. They expel the air and at the same time tighten the wallpaper. Even if it seems difficult, you can suddenly try for you with high growth, this will not be anything special.

If, after the glue has hardened, you notice small bubbles on the ceiling, they can be carefully pierced with a needle or cut at the edge of the swelling with a sharp clerical knife. Squeeze out the air, and that piece needs to be put on glue. It is possible on the same or PVA.

Master examines his work

Now you know how to quickly apply non-woven wallpaper to the ceiling alone or with a partner. They are going to be painted and you have yet to use this method of designing a room. Do not forget that immediately after laying the canvas on the ceiling, you need to roll it gently with a smooth plastic roller. So they will not lag behind the surface and will hold on until you decide to remove this wallpaper for painting and stick new ones.

When pasting the wallpaper, be sure to keep the vents and windows tightly closed and so on for 2-3 days. This is because you can get through and get sick with a cold, so even the wallpaper for painting from the ceiling will fly off and your first or not the first, but hard work and time, will be wasted. It's a shame. The main thing is to stock up on the necessary tools, follow the instructions and you will succeed pretty quickly, and then, if necessary, on the walls.

For 2-3 days, do not open the window and windows and try not to enter the room. Then ventilate and you can live, admire the beautiful design. Raise your head and see how beautifully you applied the canvases to the ceiling and this is your first repair experience. There is something to be proud of!

Working with wallpaper on the walls is a common thing for many. But not everyone knows how to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling: more often they whiten it, paint it, in recent years they install suspended and tension structures. Meanwhile, interlining is tempting as a ceiling covering for so many reasons.

For starters: these wallpapers hold their shape very well, do not stretch or tear when glued, perfectly retain their structure for as long as possible. Only the ceiling needs to be treated with adhesive, which saves time and material consumption. Surface irregularities with non-woven wallpaper are hidden, so there is no need to level it.

If a pattern is not applied to them, the wallpaper can be painted, and without prejudice to them (all this greatly facilitates the so-called cosmetic repairs). In addition, non-woven fabric easily tolerates both vacuuming and washing, so that the ceiling finished with it can be easily kept clean and tidy.

In the absence of serious errors when sticking, such wallpapers can last up to 10 years: you are more likely to get bored without changes and want to change the design than the wallpaper will lose its appearance or fall off. It is also interesting that when dismantling the non-woven fabric, only the upper, structured layer on the ceiling leaves. The substrate stays in place and can serve as a reliable base for any other finishing material you choose.

How to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling is not difficult to figure out, and the installation itself is quite accessible to a person who has never even pasted over such surfaces. True, with an assistant it is much easier and faster to do this. In addition, there are no rosettes, protrusions and complex reliefs on the ceiling, so the only thing a novice finisher can complain about is hand fatigue from an unnatural raised position.

Non-woven wallpaper is relatively indifferent to the state of the ceiling. However, in many cases, some preparation will not hurt.

  • No adhesive will securely attach anything to whitewash. So you have to wash it off with soapy water. And if the layer is too generous, first scrape it off with a spatula.
  • In the case of a strong adherent, non-peeling paint, it can be ignored. But it will not be superfluous to check the reliability. To do this, ordinary stationery tape is glued to any area and twitches sharply. If the scales are not stuck to its surface, you can start gluing. Otherwise, the paint must be removed.
  • Under the textured and patterned non-woven finish, it will be sufficient to close up the pits and chips with cracks. Under smooth and plain (or with a small pattern) - the ceiling will need to be leveled, plastered, sanded and primed.
  • It is enough for them to repair and clean the spaces where the screws are visible, and the joining of individual sheets. When the plaster dries and is sanded, the surface is primed.

Sticking technology

  • The first approach to solving the problem is traditional: turn off the electricity in the room and remove the ceiling lights. Next, the floor is covered with either wrapping paper or polyethylene (previously, many used to lay old newspapers, but this should not be done: they get wet from the moisture of the glue and can stain the wallpaper itself with printing ink).
  • Marking is done under the first page. Please note: it is necessary to glue from the window to the opposite wall, otherwise the joints of the elements will be clearly visible. From the wall, the width of the roll minus 2 centimeters is measured from both sides. A thin cord is pulled between the marks; it is attached with masking tape.
  • The rolls are cut to the length of the ceiling, to which 2-3 centimeters are added - an allowance for entering the walls. If you have chosen a finish with a pattern, 2 strips are rolled out when cutting, the pattern is combined, and only after that the strip is cut off. In order not to confuse which one follows which, the bands are numbered. Don't be put off by the inevitable losses during cutting: saving will result in a disruption of the pattern, which is much worse than the small scraps left after cutting.
  • Glue dissolves. A special composition is required for non-woven wallpaper: they are quite heavy and the usual one may simply not hold them. If a hardware store offers you pigmented glue, take it boldly: after drying, it becomes colorless.
  • At opposite walls, 2 ladders are placed along the pasting direction, between which a solid board is laid. These will be improvised goats on which the upholsterer will walk. If it is not possible to install such a device, we use an ordinary desk covered with polyethylene or paper.
  • With the help of a roller mounted on a long handle, the marked ceiling line is smeared with the capture of a small space nearby.
  • One person stands on the board, puts the edge of the cloth to the ceiling and leads him to another wall, pressing it across the entire width. The second at the same time holds the free side of the strip, feeding it as it goes. Gluing is controlled by stretched twine.
  • When the strip is baited, a rubber roller or plastic spatula is taken. They drive bubbles from the center to the edges and straighten out possible folds.
  • The edge adjacent to the wall is pressed especially tightly; the border that goes on it is cut off with a clerical knife under the ruler close to the junction of the wall and ceiling. The same procedure is carried out on a short wall.
  • If glue gets on the panel, it is immediately erased with a soft, dry rag.
  • The guide thread is removed, and the next strip is glued close to the first. Sometimes inexperienced upholsterers, out of fear that after drying the canvases will disperse, overlap. This is superfluous: non-woven wallpaper does not shrink, and the seam looks rather rough and too noticeable.
  • Special markings require a panel passing through the place where the lamp is attached. The distance is carefully measured, a cut in the form of a cross is made on the strip in the desired zone. The panel is glued in the same way as the rest. After smoothing and removing the bubbles with folds, the incision opens, wires are released through it, and the wallpaper around them is additionally rolled around with a roller. After the glue dries, the excess pieces are carefully cut off with a knife. When the lamp returns to its place, its decorative base will cover the cutout.
  • After gluing all the strips, their visits to the walls are cut off in the manner already described.

That's all the subtleties of such a process as gluing non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling. It remains only to provide them with suitable conditions for safe drying. That is, close all windows and doors to avoid drafts.

If any other finishing work is planned, for example, gluing a ceiling border, they can only be done when the ceiling is completely dry. This remark applies to the installation of a chandelier, and to the installation of cornices for curtains.

Non-woven wallpaper is a non-woven fabric, which contains cellulose and textile fibers bonded with a polymer substance. The new building material is of high quality, versatility, abrasion resistance, lightness, durability and beauty.

When pasted, the wallpaper does not stretch and does not form bubbles when the adhesive is applied. The ceiling surface can be painted many times without losing the relief of the pattern and quality. Non-woven fabric reliably hides all ceiling defects and allows you to stick it yourself.

A step-by-step instruction on how to glue non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling will help you to put a wonderful idea into practice.

The new finishing material can be glued on any type of surface: concrete, plaster, wood, plasterboard and chipboard. You can clean the surface from dust in the future with a vacuum cleaner.

For work, you will need the tools and materials shown in Fig. one.

1. The ceiling surface must be cleaned of old whitewash with soapy water and a brush.

2. The working area should be leveled, cracks repaired, protruding elements removed. For a problematic surface, it is preferable to purchase wallpaper with a large pattern, which will visually hide the irregularities of the ceiling.

For better adhesion of the adhesive solution, the area should be pre-coated with a primer, using a foam roller or a wide brush for this. Immediately after applying the composition, the tool must be thoroughly rinsed. The treated surface will need time to dry completely (2-3 hours).

Before gluing non-woven wallpaper on the ceiling, it can be marked for ease of use. A dry ceiling is smeared with glue with a roller or brush on a long handle, and the floor is covered with paper before the procedure.

Special wallpaper glue, which does not turn yellow over time, is diluted in the proportions indicated by the manufacturer. To do this, you need a clean bucket, water at room temperature and a construction mixer or an ordinary brush, with which you need to mix dry flakes with water, preventing the formation of lumps. After 10 minutes, when the solution thickens, the mixing procedure must be repeated.

If the wallpaper is selected with a pattern, then they need to be selected so that all elements of the images match. The size of the sheets must be increased by 5-6 cm, which will subsequently be cut off. For convenience, each sheet is numbered and stacked in stacks of 10 pieces.

This will greatly facilitate and speed up the process. The sheets should be placed on the ceiling parallel to the shortest wall, and the first strip should be glued in the area opposite the exit. The panels are overlapped, and the seam line is cut along the border of the previous sheet.

Removing glue residue

To remove the excess, you will need a metal ruler and a sharp clerical knife with replaceable blades.

At the fold of the sheet, you need to attach a spatula and cut off the strip with a knife. It is not necessary to do these manipulations after each strip - you can cut several sheets at once at the same time. Excess glue is removed with a soft and dry natural cloth.

At the end of work, the room should be isolated from drafts and fresh air. To make sure the ceiling is ready, stick a small strip of adhesive tape on it. If during the night no drops of moisture appeared on it, then you can start the coloring process.

Wallpaper painting

4. After making sure that the pasted wallpaper is dry, you can proceed to the next step - painting the surface with dispersion or water-based latex paints. When choosing a color, you should prefer a snow-white finish or delicate and pastel shades of blue and peach.

In any case, the tone of the paint should be in harmony with the walls of the room. The composition should be applied perpendicular to the window opening, using a soft roller for this. In order not to leave unpainted places, the work should be duplicated twice.

If the project provides for stucco molding on the ceiling, then all elements are painted over with a brush at the same time, paying special attention to the connecting seams.

Article topic: repair interlining and its application

Anyone who has ever made repairs in their home was puzzled by the question: how to prepare the surface of the walls before applying the final finish, whether it be wallpaper or just acrylic paint. Usually, a layer of finishing plaster is applied for this, but one must be able to do this, and this process is also accompanied by an abundance of dust and debris. An alternative to the finish coating, in modern construction, for leveling the surface of walls and ceilings, is the use of fiberglass or paint interlining.

Here we will talk about painting, or in another way, repair interlining in this article.

So, repair interlining is an impregnated non-woven material used for decorative finishing of walls and ceilings in any kind of premises. The interlining consists of long-fiber cellulose and synthetic fibers interconnected by polymeric materials. The ratio of these components gives the non-woven fabric different characteristics.
To give the walls a smooth look, a non-woven fabric is required, in which cellulose predominates. With the predominance of synthetic fibers, the surface of the non-woven fabric is rough and after the sticker, the relief of the structure of the fabric appears.

Repair interlining varies in material density - from 65 to 175 g / m²

The advantages of non-woven fabric:

It has an increased (compared to fiberglass) reinforcing effect - it masks cracks, rusts, seams between panels on walls and ceilings, does not give "growth" to microcracks, and prevents network cracks from appearing on painted surfaces.
Levels and strengthens the surfaces of walls and ceilings before painting, making the surface for painting ideally even and mechanically strong.
Significantly reduces paint consumption.
Replaces finishing putty before painting.
Repair interlining can be glued on all types of plasters, porous concrete, drywall, wood, plastic panels, fiberboard and chipboard. Non-woven fabric is also well glued to old wallpaper of any type and old paint, which greatly facilitates and reduces the cost of repairing old premises.

Recently, environmental friendliness and toxic safety of housing have become increasingly popular. So, in the production of non-woven fabrics, most of the raw materials are of natural origin, heavy metals and their compounds, organic solvents, mineral fibers and formaldehydes are not used.

Repair interlining:

  • does not contain fiberglass,
  • non-toxic,
  • does not emit harmful substances into the environment.

High anti-fungal resistance helps it fight mold growth. Due to the high degree of vapor permeability, it creates a healthy microclimate in the room.

Pasting the surface with non-woven fabric does not require additional skills and anyone can do it, even if you are doing it for the first time.
On the prepared base - the surface must be strong, dry, cleaned of dust and dirt, cracks, bumps and chips filled with any putty composition - using a roller, it is necessary to apply glue for non-woven wallpaper.
It is better if the glue is of the same brand as the interlining (as a rule, manufacturers make the entire product line). On the surface treated with glue, apply a non-woven canvas, previously cut to size.
The following canvases are butt-fitted, while the seams remain almost invisible. If the sheet did not fit very well, you need to immediately peel it off and stick it again.
You can paint the finished surface after 24 hours with any water-based acrylic or latex paint using a soft fleecy roller (two layers of application) or a spray gun (about three layers of application). When using a dark tint of paint, it is recommended to repaint in the future no more than three times; when painting with pastel colors, it is possible to repaint more than seven times.

So let's sum it up:
  • repair interlining has high strength, does not deform, retains its shape even in conditions of high humidity;
  • protects against the formation of cracks during shrinkage of walls in new houses;
  • improves sound insulation;
  • hardly flammable;
  • has a long service life (up to 25 years);
  • can be repainted up to 7 times;
  • easy to use;
  • easily and without traces is removed.
