New Year's toys from wine corks. What can be made from champagne corks: do-it-yourself crafts

To make the interior brighter and more expressive, to bring the missing warmth and some zest into it, it is not at all necessary to spend fabulous sums. Decorative elements that you can easily make yourself will help add comfort to any home. Today we will talk about an amazing material, or rather simple products from it, which can be used not only for its intended purpose - cork stoppers.

You can make excellent items with your own hands, which has already been mentioned on the pages of our site more than once: these are and, and various, and even. Now it's time to give new life to cork stoppers, which are often left over from holiday feasts. If you do not have a stock of these products, then it is not a problem to purchase them now, they are relatively inexpensive and are sold in unlimited quantities.

Cork oak, from the bark of which, in fact, stoppers for wines, champagne, cognac are made, grows mainly in the Mediterranean. The main supplier of this material is Portugal, where oak plantations reach 2 million hectares. But you can also meet cork oak in Spain, Morocco, Algeria and several other countries. About 350 thousand tons of cork oak bark are harvested annually in the world, but even this amount is sorely lacking. Therefore, the bark of other trees is used (Pyramidal Balsa, Amur Velvet and Linden Hibiscus). Of course, they are worse in quality than those made from the bark of a real cork tree, but they are suitable for crafts.

The bark from the cork oak begins to be taken only when the tree reaches 20 years of age. They take it off about once every 10 years, that's how long it takes to restore it. About 200 kg of bark is removed from one tree at the age of 180-200 years. Corks are considered the highest quality, for the manufacture of which the bark from 50-year-old trees was used.

Cork tree bark is an excellent natural polymer, and this is precisely what makes this material unique. In addition, it is completely waterproof, durable, resilient and elastic, thanks to which it is able to quickly restore its original shape even after strong pressure is applied to it.

The production process of cork stoppers is quite laborious and consists of several stages. First, the bark removed from the tree is allowed to lie down for a year in rooms specially provided for this. Next, the bark is exposed to high temperatures, after which it is cut into layers, then into small strips. Cylindrical corks are already made from them, which are ground and impregnated with wax. Cork corks are also made from cork chips and wood glue, but not whole, but pressed.

Numerous advantages of the material and unusual appearance made corks an interesting object for creativity - they are very popular among fans of making various crafts. Below are just a few options for using cork stoppers, but there can be many more, it all depends on your desire and imagination.

Hot pads

From cork stoppers, you can make an original hot stand. Such a spectacular (but at the same time amazingly practical) little thing will undoubtedly become the highlight of any kitchen interior.

To make a stand you will need:

  • cork stoppers, the number of which will depend on the desired size of the stand;
  • a thin metal strip about 1 cm wide;
  • rivets to fasten the ends of the strip together;
  • glue to glue the corks together;
  • sharp knife.
Operating procedure:
  1. Because corks often vary in size, they must be trimmed carefully. This must be done in such a way that the length becomes the same.
  2. Then each is smeared with glue (along the entire length) and alternately connected to each other.
  3. By attaching the corks to each other, they gradually get a craft of a given shape.
  4. The finished stand is given time to dry.
  5. They tighten it with a metal strip (it will give the hot stand greater strength and securely connect the parts together), which can be fastened with rivets.
Important: Cut corks only with a sharp knife, otherwise they may crumble.

By the same principle, you can make a hot stand of any shape and type from cork stoppers.

The hot stand can be of any shape - it all depends on your desire

It can be made in the form of a square or a triangle, a star or a heart.

By the way, this kind of crafts will perfectly cope with the role of a decorative element that can be put on the table or hung on the wall.

Picture and photo frames

Decorating a frame for a photo or a picture is also easy. Just glue the finished photo frame around the edge with corks.

You can arrange them in one or several rows, pick up corks of different colors - the design is completely up to your imagination. As soon as the glue dries, you can safely insert your favorite photo into the original frame.

If there is no finished frame, you can make it yourself.

  • cork stoppers;
  • a small piece of cork wallpaper;
  • some thin plywood;
  • sharp knife;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • jigsaw.
Operating procedure:
  1. A frame of the desired size and shape is cut out of plywood with a jigsaw.
  2. Another frame of exactly the same size and shape is cut out of cork wallpaper with scissors. Plywood is well lubricated with glue, after which a cork wallpaper frame is placed on it and pressed firmly against each other (you can put them under pressure for a while).
  3. Corks are cut in half lengthwise with a sharp knife.
  4. Each of the halves is smeared with glue and glued to the frame over the cork wallpaper.
  5. The finished frame is allowed to dry completely.
An equally original frame can be made using cork stoppers and burlap made from natural fibers.

Everyone has heard of paper crafts. Probably everyone remembers how at school they taught how to make garlands from colored paper. But the task can be complicated and make an exclusive decoration that no one will have. For example, a Christmas tree made from wine corks. Such a beauty will help decorate the interior, and if desired, it can even be hung on a Christmas tree, it all depends on the size of the product.

We decided not to waste time on trifles and make the Christmas tree bigger, but since we don’t indulge in wine too often, we collected a few corks. Well, the problem was solved simply - the corks were cut in half. So we got the right amount of parts and were able to make a medium-sized Christmas tree. Try to make such a New Year's toy, in addition, the process is so simple that even a child can handle it.

Our Christmas tree consists of 21 elements (that is, it took 11 traffic jams). To create such a Christmas tree, we used:

stationery knife,
PVA glue,
fishing line,
beads and beads,
sequins,
2 screws
screwdriver,
push pin or pin.

First of all, we cut our corks in two, trying to make them as uniform and even as possible.

Now on a clean sheet of paper we make a strip of glue and lay out 4 elements on it, tightly in contact. So we get the bottom row for our Christmas tree.

The resulting lower row is abundantly poured with glue and above it we collect a row of 5 elements. In a similar way, over the second row, we make the third, consisting of four traffic jams, the next above it - from three, then from two, and finally, glue the top plug. Now we leave it all to freeze somewhere for a day. The glue must dry completely.

We will need two corks in order to make a Christmas tree leg. To do this, we screw a screw into the center of each cork, and all the way so that its part comes out on the other side of the cork. This free part then needs to be screwed into the structure of the Christmas tree.

When the design is assembled, we proceed to decorating. First of all, we take the leg. What does the tree usually stand on at home? On a stand or in a bucket. We recreate the illusion - we string larger beads on the fishing line and wrap the leg. At the end, the fishing line must be fixed, but do not cut it, now we will make a garland for the Christmas tree.

When the bottom is decorated, we continue to string beads onto the fishing line and thread it through the holes between the plugs, imitating a Christmas tree garland.

It is better not to use large beads, as they do not fit into the holes between the plugs. At the top of the Christmas tree we attach a pin or hairpin - then we will attach the end of the fishing line and a bow to it.

We made balls on the Christmas tree using sequins. To do this, the surface of some corks needs to be greased with glue and carefully, using a toothpick, lay out the sparkles. Do the same for the back side of the tree. Now we leave the product again for a while so that the glue dries.

When the glue dries, we finish decorating - we attach a hairpin or pushpin to the top cork, tie the end of the fishing line with beads to its leg and pin the bow. If you plan to hang the decoration on the Christmas tree, you can sew a loop to the bow.

It's so simple, beautiful and original. The wine cork Christmas tree is ready.

When a gift for a friend or girlfriend is ready, you can think about

On the Internet, you can find a lot of original crafts from ordinary wine corks. They make vases, hot coasters, magnets, rugs and so on. Sometimes an unremarkable little thing at first glance fits perfectly into the interior of a kitchen or living room, especially if they are decorated in a vintage or rustic style.

Today the Creative Workshop "Barabashka" will help you create a simple but cute panel, from the same wine corks that were lying around in your kitchen cabinet. Such a panel can also become a convenient board for notes and notes that are easy to pin to it using ordinary pins or buttons.

To create a do-it-yourself cork panel, we need:

  • wine corks
  • wooden frame
  • glue gun + 1-2 glue sticks
  • sharp cutter

First we need to prepare the required number of traffic jams.

You can collect it yourself, it will be a rather long process, you can connect your friends and relatives and collect all the corks from the festive tables, this will speed up the process somewhat. To speed up the process of collecting improvised material, you can ask the bartender in a cafe or restaurant for help, if you come across a sympathetic little man, then the required number of wine corks will be in your hands soon.

And so, when we already have the right amount of wine corks at hand, and a suitable frame has been found for them, we can get to work.

We take out our sharpest cutter and cut the cork in half. This process may require a fair amount of time and effort.

Then we lay out these corks in our frame, in any order we like. We correct, swap, cut a little in the right places to get a beautiful composition without gaps.

When the approximate picture is ready, we turn on the glue gun and fix our corks in the frame one by one.

Advice: If your frame has a white background, it's best to tint it gray, yellow, or brown.

We try to arrange them neatly and gradually move from top to bottom.

If the corks at the end do not fit, cut them off.

All this does not take much time, and as a result we get a beautiful and original panel on which you can attach your photos or notes. It can also be used as a hot plate, or just a decorative element, as corks will certainly decorate your home and bring their own zest.
