The pump can be foot-operated or automatic. We won't need the high power of this pump, so don't buy an expensive one. Using an automatic pump is much more convenient than a foot pump, since you do not have to constantly drag the pump from place to place and do unnecessary work with your foot. Drill a hole in the canister that is the right size for your coupling. Insert a coupling with a screwed-in fitting into this hole. Secure the structure with sealant so that the coupling does not pop out during operation, and the required pressure is maintained in the canister.

Third stage. Cover assembly.

The lid needs to be strong, solid and suitable for the canister. To prevent air from escaping from the canister, attach a rubber gasket to the bottom of the lid. Then make a hole in it and insert the tubeless tire fungus into it.

Screw the lid on the canister tightly, connect the cord from the pump to the fungus, attach the free edge of the hose to the hole made in the canister using a fitting. The homemade sink is ready. The principle of operation of such a washer is simple: using a pump, air is pumped into a canister of water (the canister is not filled to the brim with water). When planning an electric car wash, make sure you have a working and accessible source of electricity. In this case, you are unlikely to be able to freely transport the sink from place to place, but you will not have to spend money on expensive fuel.

Decide in advance what you are using the sink for. If you want to clean the windows of a house or the wheels of a car, then a compact, mobile washer on wheels and with a long hose will suit you. When using a sink on a production scale, you will not need its ability to move, so it is better to design a stationary sink. It connects directly to the water supply. If the need arises, set up automatic water supply to save money.

While you can save on water consumption, you cannot save on purchasing sink components. To prevent the item from becoming dirty after washing, purchase special filters. You don't need an expensive filter to purify the water to drinkable condition. A filter is needed to purify the water, at least from debris that will disable the sink.

You can even make money by designing a pressure washer if you open a car wash. The main thing is that the sink you make works. Using a car wash, you can clean bicycles, mopeds, cars, trucks and their components.

How to make a Karcher powered by a cigarette lighter

This sink design does not require any costs. Below are instructions for creating a more complex model:

  • windshield washer motor;
  • irrigation hose with gun;
  • cigarette lighter (motor power supply), cigarette lighter plug;
  • two hoses 3 meters long, one hose must fit freely into the other;
  • corrugated hose with a diameter of 25-30 millimeters;
  • switch;
  • M8 bolt, washer and nut;
  • two plastic canisters (volume 10 liters);
  • 6 self-tapping screws;
  • two-core electrical wire 5-7 meters long;
  • plastic sleeve;
  • power cable;

First stage. Creating a hose.

We make a small hole in the bottom of one of the canisters. A thinner hose (up to 6 millimeters) and a two-core wire are placed inside a thick hose (diameter 10 millimeters or more). Then the hoses we have fastened are inserted into the opening of the canister. A plastic sleeve is inserted into the free end of the hose. Next, a thin hose is attached to the washer motor, and the wires are also connected to the motor.

Second phase. Creating a canister with a double bottom.

The second canister is cut approximately in the middle in order to subsequently make a second bottom with a shuttle out of it. The motor is fixed to the second bottom of the canister; for these purposes, a homemade clamp is used, which can be made from the remains of a cut canister. For this we need an M8 bolt and a little sealant.

The wires are also secured using self-tapping screws and sealant. Then they connect, again using self-tapping screws, the body of the structure: the second bottom and the hinged lid.

Third stage. Completion.

First, connect the compressor to the fitting using a hose. A tap is attached to the brush, with which you will regulate the optimal amount of liquid throughput.

You also don’t need any special knowledge to create such a necessary thing as an automated mini-wash. Only the necessary tools, the availability of the necessary parts and the desire to make the process of washing your car with your own hands more enjoyable.

  1. First, you need to prepare the canisters; one of them will have to be cut in order to create a “second bottom” where the shuttle for winding the wire and power and the rotating lid will be located.
  2. For cutting, you can use a knife or scissors, depending on the thickness of the canister walls.
  3. Regular drinking water cans are ideal for this.
  4. In the bottom of the whole canister you need to make a hole corresponding to the diameter of the large hose, that is, 10 mm, exactly under the inlet of the canister. On the opposite side you need to make a hole corresponding to the washer.
  5. The washer is attached using a brass M8 bolt, respectively, with a nut and washer, to the outer surface of the bottom of the whole canister approximately in the middle. The motor is secured with a clamp, which can be easily made from a strip of plastic.
  6. To install the hoses, plastic bushings are used. These can even be cases from ordinary felt-tip pens. After fastening, you need to connect the receiving tube from the motor to the bottom of the canister into the hole made in advance, from where water will flow to the motor.
  7. The wires and thinner hose are inserted into the larger diameter hose. You need to insert it into the inlet of the canister and through the hole made in its bottom. For reliability, the hose is secured in the hole with a sleeve.
  8. You need to install a switch or button on the brush; make a choice from these parts yourself. Choose what you find more convenient, because you will perform the entire manufacturing process with your own hands. A button or switch is glued inside the handle.

To decorate it, use a piece of corrugated hose; a diameter of 25 mm is suitable for this. It must be put on the brush handle in advance, that is, before assembly is carried out. Naturally, wires are connected to the switch.

The lower ends of the wire must be connected to the washer motor and to the power cord, which, in turn, must be connected to the motor. When choosing a power cord, do not forget that it must be 12-volt. The cigarette lighter plug is connected to the cord.

After the wires have been soldered, the lower part (cut) of the canister, that is, its “second bottom,” is attached to the main canister with self-tapping screws. Do not forget about the tightness of the connections; you must use a sealant, even if it seems to you that everything is fine. The rotary cover must be attached in the same way. If all the nuances and smallest details are observed, assembly will not take you much time.

Situations often occur when a car becomes very dirty as a result of driving through a polluted area, but there are no facilities nearby to wash it well. For example, you went to the forest to pick mushrooms or berries, or to the lake. Running into a pond with a bucket to douse the car while rubbing the dirt with an old rag is not an option. For such purposes, you can make a small mini-sink using the simplest means at hand. It will be very compact and can easily fit into the trunk of any car without eating up extra space.

Necessary materials for making a mini-sink:
- foot pump;

To start work, take a container prepared in advance. This can be an ordinary plastic canister with a volume of at least 10 liters. Ideally, you need to use a large container made of thick plastic or metal.

A fungus from a tubeless wheel is built into the lid of the container and sealed with a rubber gasket on glue. There is no need to install a gasket if the hole for the fungus is made very precisely, which allows it to hold tightly and tightly.


A hole is made at the bottom of the container into which a fitting is attached using an adapter coupling and silicone sealant.

The watering head is equipped with a quick-release valve that allows you to connect a hose. This valve also connects the hose to the container.

Principle of operation.
Using a foot pump, we pump air into the container so that the pressure is no more than 0.1-0.2 atmospheres, this will be more than enough. This creates excess pressure inside the plastic canister, causing air to press on the water in the container. Now it will be enough to open the valve of the watering head so that water flows out. Just be careful not to apply too much pressure to prevent your container from bursting.

If there are drainage systems on public roads, they are somewhere deep in the project. If they worked as expected, then there would be fewer or no problems with dirt. Although it may not be a matter of drainage, the problem remains and it needs to be solved somehow. What should a car wash be like?

There is no need to talk about the advantages of mini-washing over bucket washing. A high-pressure jet will perfectly remove dirt from fender liners, bumpers, and rims, and a good foaming nozzle will complete the job. The body will be clean and tidy until the next rain or trip out of town. You can assemble a sink with your own hands, but you first need to know what indicators the design must have in order for it to be of any use. You need to come to terms with the fact that it will not be possible to build a Karcher 7-series, but you need to strive for this if you really want to save 7-8 thousand on a functional, reliable unit. When planning the design of a homemade sink, you need to focus on the best branded models, so we will follow them.

Do-it-yourself mini-wash. Looking for simple ways

The main figure in the washing machine remains the compressor, which turns a garden hose with a nozzle into a high-pressure washer. The engine for the drive is the tenth thing. The main and most difficult task is to decide on the compressor and its type. You can take the simple path, as many do. Assemble the device according to the principle of a portable foam generator. For some reason, the famous Monsoon can serve as an example. The device is schematically a cylinder or any container, and in the case of Monsoon, a plastic cylinder into which air is pumped using any portable compressor. A foaming agent is not a high-pressure apparatus by definition, so it makes no sense to want an output of 180 bar from it. Firstly, you still need to look for a household compressor that can pump up high pressure, and secondly, you need to find a cylinder that won’t break into pieces.

Now about the enterprise price. Monsoon costs about 2.5 thousand rubles, and this is only a foam generator. It includes a cylinder, a hose, valves and adapters, seals, and sprayers. The foam generator operates at a pressure of up to 5 atm maximum and cannot be called a high-pressure washer. It can create foam quite well (which then needs to be washed off somehow), and it can be used to conveniently wash the engine compartment and wheels of a simple configuration. You can increase your blood pressure, but to reasonable limits. The manufacturer of Monsoon carefully hints that it is not worth raising the pressure above 4 atm, and this is indicated by the limit valve. The configuration is normal, as for a foam generator, it works from the Aggressor pump, so you can’t jump higher than the ceiling. From this we can draw a conclusion.

You can assemble a foam generator with your own hands, and this does not require mind-boggling expenses:

  • you need a plastic canister, the bigger the better;
  • flexible hoses, low pressure can be used;
  • compressor for inflating wheels, Berkut R20, Aggressor;
  • fittings, gaskets, sealants and clamps in place.

To give the device mobility, you can use a car compressor that runs from the cigarette lighter. For example, K50 at 12 volts can provide a legal 2 atmospheres. You can inflate them using the nipple fitting from a tubeless tire. Thus, you can assemble a foam generator with your own hands cheaply and cheerfully. But this unit is still far from being a high-pressure washer.

Important characteristics of a mini high pressure washer

The performance of the device is not the most important indicator, but if a homemade mini-wash takes water not from the water supply, but from its own autonomous tank, then it is advisable to save water. On average, when washing a car using the bucket-rag method, 40-60 liters of water are used. Less will not work. From here you need to calculate the approximate volume of the autonomous cylinder. Branded sinks consume from 5 to 15 liters per minute. That is, if the container capacity of a homemade sink is 25 liters, then water must be added every two minutes.

Pressure is a sore point. In mid-price range sinks, Karcher or Shtil, high-pressure axial pumps are installed. In principle, it is possible to buy such a unit. Only it will cost 40% of the cost of the entire mini-wash. Therefore, the profitability of reinventing the wheel is rather precarious. You can not accelerate to such pressure, but take the path of least resistance. Take a pump from the fuel system of any car, just keep in mind that it will not work for a long time. Gasoline is its only lubricant, and water is a lubricant of dubious quality, so it will die after the first major wash, repairing it is impossible. In this case, we will lower the pressure even more and install a 12-volt pump from the glass washer of any car.

Even with such a weak pump, we must not forget about filters. Each model of a branded mini car wash is equipped with an inlet filter. Firstly, because a fairly large fraction can float in the water and it will damage the pump. And if it doesn’t cause any damage, it will clog the foam nozzle or spray nozzle. Secondly, it can get on the paintwork and leave a new scratch. A filter is necessary, but it’s better to abandon replaceable cartridges in favor of a filter that can be washed.

Nozzles and additional sprayers offered by well-known brands are only relevant if serious pressure can be achieved. If the pressure of a homemade mini-wash is at the level of 1-2 atm, then only one spray nozzle will be enough to prepare the surface. There is no point in using foam nozzles, since such a device itself is essentially a foam generator.

Washing device

The main component of the sink (or Karcher) is the engine, which creates the necessary water pressure. A pump or motor will do (you don’t have to buy a new one, take a working one from an old car), the motor is built into the body of the sink and must be connected to a power source. For the body of the sink (body), choose a durable material, thick plastic or metal. Even if you purchase a wear-resistant case, it is better not to use the sink for more than three hours at a time. This will put the washer out of action soon.
Hose attachments are available to facilitate the cleaning process - brushes of varying hardness, soft rollers, standard sprayers. If you purchase a couple of attachments, you can expand the functions of your sink by using it as an automatic mop or steam cleaner (you need to equip the sink with a heater).

Internal pressure

The higher the pressure inside the housing, the stronger the stream of water gushing from the hose, which means the dirt comes off easier. Set the pressure carefully, because water can simply break a fragile car part or glass and leave dents. Manufacturers set the pressure at 150-170 bar, but 100 bar is enough to clean the car.
If the contamination cannot be cleaned with a jet of water, purchase a special nozzle for the hose, a turbo cutter. It will help wash tires, wheels, and remove dirt accumulated in the cracks. You can use the mini-wash both outside and inside the car. If you are using a turbo cutter, you will need a pressure of 160 bar.

Electric pump

The material of the pump determines its wear resistance. A bad option is a plastic pump; it will soon fail if you use it for more than 20 minutes at a time. Expensive but reliable pumps are made of brass because it does not corrode. These pumps are rarely found in commercial car washes.

How to use the mini-wash

To wash worked properly, follow these recommendations.

  • Be sure to check the operation of the washer before you start using it, this will save your time and health.
  • Clean and change the filter installed in the car wash after each use.
  • If the washer uses electricity to operate and the source is unstable, provide it with a battery.
  • Do not let children use the sink.

  • Protect your sink from temperature changes.

How to make a Karcher yourself

Although car washes have achieved widespread use, they come at a high price. So, if you want to do the sink yourself, you will be needed:

  • canister;
  • irrigation hose with gun;
  • pump;
  • union;
  • canister lid;
  • tubeless wheel fungus;
  • rubber gasket;
  • coupling.

These are the components of the future car wash. Materials that will come in handy during the manufacturing process:

  • drill;
  • sealant.

First stage. Selection of components.

The required volume of the canister depends on you and the purposes for which you will use the car wash: a five-liter canister is enough for a passenger car. Drivers carry a car wash in their luggage, so choose a body based on both volume and dimensions.
The irrigation hose must be strong and flexible and should not be twisted or broken. Hoses with nylon braid are considered durable. A hose consisting of several layers is more reliable. Don't skimp on this component. The only requirement for the gun is that it must hold tightly to the hose.


The pump can be foot-operated or automatic. We won't need the high power of this pump, so don't buy an expensive one. Using an automatic pump is much more convenient than a foot pump, since you do not have to constantly drag the pump from place to place and do unnecessary work with your foot. However, the cost of the pump plays a decisive role; an automatic one is three times more expensive.
Choose the fitting and coupling at your discretion, the main thing is that they are in close contact with each other. It is preferable to purchase both the fitting and the coupling from the same material (plastic or metal).

Second phase. Preparing the canister.

Drill a hole in the canister that is the right size for your coupling. Insert a coupling with a screwed-in fitting into this hole. Secure the structure with sealant so that the coupling does not pop out during operation, and the required pressure is maintained in the canister.

Third stage. Cover assembly.

The lid needs to be strong, solid and suitable for the canister. To prevent air from escaping from the canister, attach a rubber gasket to the bottom of the lid. Then make a hole in it and insert the tubeless tire fungus into it.

Fourth stage. Assembly of the structure. Additional functions.

Screw the lid on the canister tightly, connect the cord from the pump to the fungus, attach the free edge of the hose to the hole made in the canister using a fitting. The homemade sink is ready. The principle of operation of such a washer is simple: using a pump, air is pumped into a canister of water (the canister is not filled to the brim with water). Create pressure up to 0.3 bar or higher if your canister can handle it. Under the influence of pressure, water streams out of the gun when you press the handle.
If you will use the sink during the cold season, equip your sink with a special burner for heating the water. For these purposes, you will need a larger canister; it will lose mobility, but with the help of hot water the car is cleaned of heavily dried dirt.


Provide a power source for the washer. If the washer runs on fuel (gasoline or diesel fuel), then there will be no problems with moving it. When planning an electric car wash, make sure you have a working and accessible source of electricity. In this case, you are unlikely to be able to freely transport the sink from place to place, but you will not have to spend money on expensive fuel.
Decide in advance what you are using the sink for. If you want to clean the windows of a house or the wheels of a car, then a compact, mobile washer on wheels and with a long hose will suit you. When using a sink on a production scale, you will not need its ability to move, so it is better to design a stationary sink. It connects directly to the water supply. If the need arises, set up automatic water supply to save money.
While you can save on water consumption, you cannot save on purchasing sink components. To prevent the item from becoming dirty after washing, purchase special filters. You don't need an expensive filter to purify the water to drinkable condition. A filter is needed to purify the water, at least from debris that will disable the sink.


You can even make money by designing a pressure washer if you open a car wash. The main thing is that the sink you make works. Using a car wash, you can clean bicycles, mopeds, cars, trucks and their components.

How to make a Karcher powered by a cigarette lighter

This sink design does not require any costs. Below are instructions for creating a more complex model:
Us you will need:

  • irrigation hose with gun;
  • cigarette lighter (motor power supply), cigarette lighter plug;
  • two hoses 3 meters long, one hose must fit freely into the other;
  • corrugated hose with a diameter of 25-30 millimeters;
  • switch;
  • M8 bolt, washer and nut;
  • two plastic canisters (volume 10 liters);
  • 6 self-tapping screws;
  • two-core electrical wire 5-7 meters long;
  • plastic sleeve;
  • power cable;
  • brush for washing a car.

Additional materials:

First stage. Creating a hose.

We make a small hole in the bottom of one of the canisters. A thinner hose (up to 6 millimeters) and a two-core wire are placed inside a thick hose (diameter 10 millimeters or more). Then the hoses we have fastened are inserted into the opening of the canister. A plastic sleeve is inserted into the free end of the hose. Next, a thin hose is attached to the washer motor, and the wires are also connected to the motor.

Second phase. Creating a canister with a double bottom.

The second canister is cut approximately in the middle in order to subsequently make a second bottom with a shuttle out of it. The motor is fixed to the second bottom of the canister; for these purposes, a homemade clamp is used, which can be made from the remains of a cut canister. For this we need an M8 bolt and a little sealant.
The wires are also secured using self-tapping screws and sealant. Then they connect, again using self-tapping screws, the body of the structure: the second bottom and the hinged lid.

Third stage. Completion.

Using the power cord, the wires are connected to the cigarette lighter. A hole is made in the brush for the button, the switch is secured. The brush itself is mounted on the edge of the hose with a plastic sleeve. Use the attached diagrams in your work to better understand the text.
